Photo I took a while ago of 3 of my panda cories hanging out in a lil group again and a friend said they looked like they were about to drop a music album
People of tumblr, what would their band name be and what kind of music would they make?

I saw that you are an aquarium fan! What's your favourite kind of tank fish? Mine is certainly Neon Innesa but Pterophyllum scalare are also pretty neat!!
TIL you can change the colors of text in asks! Neat!
And oooh - haha, thanks for getting me started on this! >:) I actually do have a group of neons in my larger community tank. I think they're very pretty fish and they hold a nostalgia for me because my mom had a bunch when I was young. I don't have a tank large enough for angelfish unfortunately, and I've also just in general been won over to the pros of having exclusively non-aggressive community fish in the community fish tank, so I'm not sure if I'd ever go for angels.
That said, if she hadn't been a homicidal shrimp murderer, I cannot overstate how nice it was to put my betta fish into a 20 gallon tank. People are often focused on putting bettas in the minimum safe size of tank for them, and it feels like you rarely see the interesting behaviors you get from bettas in larger tanks discussed. She used the whole tank, patrolled and explored constantly, and it was very clear that compared to the neons, who were often just vibing, most of her actions were performed with some sort of deliberate purpose. I felt almost guilty transferring her into her current 6.4 gallon tank, though it's heavily planted and has shrimp for her to pick at.
My generic "I fucking love betta fish" answer aside, my favorite fish tend to end up being loaches! I have java loaches in my community tank, which are hilarious, active noodles, and my favorite loaches are reticulated hillstream loaches.

They're very pretty: aside from the pattern, they look like tiny little manta rays, and they spend a lot of time sticking to the side of the glass and to smooth rocks. I've got three (soon to be four when I take my friend's extra when he moves) and they're very peaceful fish that do well in a large range of temperatures. Watching them flap at each other or sift sand is always really fun.

Current "conversation" I'm having with my black corycat, Wendy:
Me: Ok so you've had this white spot thing near your fin for several weeks now…none of your friends have it, I've treated your tank twice with sulfaplex to no avail. I've vaccumed your gravel twice, added fun new plants, and I change your water 30% twice a week…so what gives
Wendy: silence
Me: Ma'am, I set this tank up a year ago and it still hasn't cycled because I've tried to treat you with antibiotics. What can I do? Why are you so stressed??
Wendy: i wanna go to Peru
Me: You-What?
Wendy: yeah i wanna go to Peru. Y'know. Where I'm from?
Me: Ok look first of all, I'm pretty sure you were bred either in the US or Europe, so technically you're not from Peru, and secondly Wendy you can't go to Peru, you live in this perfectly nice planted aquarium-
Wendy: makes her barbels shorter wow I'm so Stressed right now, can't even believe it.
Me: …
Wendy: looks like the only cure is buying me a plane ticket to Peru

I saw everyone sending you fish asks and i thought you might enjoy this photo of one of my panda corycats I took a few days ago
Lil guy just was staring into nothingness right up to the glass lol
He did swim away after I took this photo though so he was perfectly fine
I made him an emote in my discord server
he looks like he discovered the glass for the first time, confused little guy
thanks for showing!!

POV: it’s a rainy afternoon, and you are a lab puppy who loves to watch the fish.
The corycats seem to be her favorite.
She is the angelfish’s least favorite 🤣

Sad fish stuff under the cut :c
I know we habitually impart human qualities on animals and while I would never argue that fish (broadly speaking) are sentient in the same way that humans are, there are times that things fish do still hits the same way. For a while now, I've been down to just two pygmy corydoras; a very large one from the first batch I had gotten and then I got a couple more last year when that batch dwindled to just one and it looked like the big corycat was going insane being alone (most fish school, so you want groups of them in a tank). Only two of them made it through quarantine and when I finally added them to the community tank, the big corycat would not leave them alone- it didn't seem in a territorial way, but it just wanted to be near them. And then it was just two of them, and they were almost always together, rummaging for food at the bottom of the tank or skirting around the glass. (Again, I wouldn't call it affection, because they stick together as a school as a protective measure. But it was cute.) And it's just been the two of them for a long while but just this week I found the smaller corycat dead and on the day I found it, I couldn't find the big one anywhere. I didn't see a second body, so I was pretty sure it was still alive, but usually it was always out and about and very active around the tank. But for nearly the entire day it was hiding and I didn't see it until much later. Not sure that I'd necessarily prescribe it as grieving...but it was something. //:

I sketched out my tank setup idea and finally got around to inking it. I ordered spider wood and hopefully I can make it into a nice Alien From Arrival shape. If I can, it'll be soaking, boiling, and attaching Java moss for me!
I want to change it up for enrichment and also the hunk of wood I have in there now is soooo tannin rich it makes the water too yellow. also the corycats need more sand room on the bottom

When i was checking on my fish yesterday I spotted one of my little panda cories just sitting there with their mouth slightly agape and their derpy lil eyes which just looked so funny to me so I snapped some photos and shared these with my friends
I then cropped the second photo to this, intending to make it an emote:

And then one of my friends turned my fish into this glorious meme:
Tumblr media
Which i just had to show you guys on Tumblr as well. I just didn't get to it yesterday
Also this might be the same fish from this picture from months ago:

I am looking into doing some adjustments to my aquarium. As the stem plants have started to overgrow. They are taking up about 3/4 of the space in the water column right now. Leaving the last 1/4 of the bottom free for my corycats and loches to swim in. Which is almost perfect as they are bottom feeders and the dense cover has made them very brave and gregarious.
I do think I will need to do a little thinning of the plants or it will overgrow. Plus it is making it hard to clean the aquarium through all the plants. So that is one chore I have been putting off.
That brings me to adding new tankmates. After my latest Betta died I have been toying with trying shrimp again. As they should do great with the very dense plants and not be hunted by the corycats or the loches.

Introducing my Hazbinsona! At some point I'll probably make an actual colored/reference sheet for them but that requires me to be capable of existing outside work, so... Eventually.
They work for Vox taking care of his sharks and all related tank maintenance. Their name is Bitch. (Not really, it's Bichir, but they never corrected Vox who couldn't be bothered to remember since it was close enough, so in all Voxtek systems they're Bitch and that's all anyone knows them as so basically that's there's name now.)
Bitch worked at an aquarium when they were alive and ended up in Hell (despite generally being a decent person) because one day they snapped and started punting kids across the building. They have no memory of how they died. They are used to a high stress, zero tolerance work environment so working for Vox is not that different from when they were alive.
They don't really have friends because the vast majority of the time they don't cross paths with other Voxtek staff unless they're being fed to the sharks which doesn't tend to lead to friendly interactions. And they rarely leave the tower anymore since Vox gave them a room (it's a closet) so they're on call 24/7 in case of shark emergencies.
Bitch is primarily based on a bichir and corycat but the tail is more axolotl.
