Glee Musical Retrospective : Gives You Hell (Hell-O)
youtube
Sung by: Rachel Berry w/New Directions Original Artist(s): The All-American Rejects
The thing about this song is that it's a cheeky and immature way of handling people you don't like. Which is perfect for a scorned, teenage Rachel to release her irritation with Finn. It's not the most Rachel-ish of Rachel songs, but you know the writers were endlessly amused that they could use the 'Hell' part of Hello.
I'm not gonna lie, though, the performances (particularly the background performances) in this one never fail to make me laugh.
Story Analysis
I wouldn't say that Glee is all that subtle with this one, but Rachel isn't a subtle girl. We all know that she's deeply hurt by Finn dumping her, but she's going to pretend that it doesn't matter - and this song is just a prolonged 'fuck you, I'm fine' to Finn.
The way Rachel just starts in an indignant position, carefully placing her hands on her hips, ready to yell at her new ex via music. It's just hilarious. She is all sassy and she has brought it, and she brings it the whole way through. And the way Rachel and Finn have this kind of nonverbal dialogue through the whole thing is brilliant.
Is she fine? No not really, but she's definitely going to pretend to be. She's also angry, and this song has a level of pettiness to it that suits her just fine.
I wake up every evening With a big smile on my face And it never feels out of place
She is pretending so hard to be okay with everything, and show that he can do whatever, and she's fine with it. But the interesting thing is that by the time she does get to the chorus, her true feelings come out just a little. She's ultimately sad more than mad. She doesn't want to be singing this song - but this is a song of the scorned ex, so she's going to push on.
When you see my face Hope it gives you hell Hope it gives you hell When you walk my way Hope it gives you hell Hope it gives you hell
Every line of the song is dripping with sarcasm and anger. But the crux of it is in the chorus. Rachel wants Finn to regret what he did every time he sees her.
And I mean, Rachel is hopelessly melodramatic in everything that she does. So this over the top performance just feeds into the type of person she is. And despite being ridiculed for most of her life, this is the first time she's been dumped, so now she gets the play the role of victim, so of course she's going to milk it for what it's worth.
And while we don't really see much vulnerability under the hurt and anger, it's there.
Now where’s your picket fence, love? And where’s that shiny car? Did it ever get you far? You never seem so tense, love I never seen you fall so hard Do you know where you are?
I kind of love what she does with these lines. They're so dripping with sarcasm, and she gets right in his face as she sings about him being tense. But also -- just the taunt of -- hey, are you really better without me? I think not.
And truth be told I miss you And truth be told I'm lying
These lines, however, are the biggest lie, and the biggest departure from the essence of the song for Rachel. The song itself is written about someone who is sincere in their messaging. But Rachel -- she does miss Finn, and she is lying, but she'll never say otherwise.
Now you’ll never see What you’ve done to me You can take back your memories They’re no good to me And here’s all your lies You can look me in the eyes With the sad, sad look That you wear so well
These lines are so interesting, too. Again, Rachel is pushing all in to be the scorned ex and be done with Finn. He knows better, and really she does, too. But she's going to hold on to the attempt to saving face. Also, interestingly, she really doesn't look him in the eye during most of it. A couple of times to point and call him out, but not really.
Meanwhile, a ton of kudos to Cory Monteith. Finn can completely see through what she's doing -- and after the initial shock of 'oh great this is for me', he kind of just lets it happen. But also, by the end, Finn's dug in his own heels and is like - you can do this all you want, Rachel, but I know what's really going on. And Cory's nonverbal acting skills in this number are so good and so hilarious, and I love it.
Some smaller things -
Naya is hilarious as Santana. The looks she throws to Rachel during this number at the beginning are great.
What is up with Kurt sitting in the corner half the song? I've never fully understood that acting choice -- it's short lived as he jumps in near the end. I am amused by his 'okay crazy' look he gives her though when she sings to him.
There's a sweet moment between Puck and Quinn goofing around when the song gets to /If you find a man that’s worth the damn and treats you well / -- it's a nice beat.
Will has some funny eye rolls here, but c'mon, I judge him a little bit for letting this song go on the full way through.
Rachel pushes all in when the song ramps up and the kids come in. She's now got all the attention and the sympathy, so it's no longer about her and her feelings of sorrow but about her shining in the role she's created for herself.
Technical Thoughts
First... vocally? Rachel has a bit too much shine on her voice to really sell the grungy, whiny, white boy pop that this song is. But, meh. I mean, I don't think that people are necessarily buying this one because they love Lea Michele's take on it. I can't say that it's... great or anything.
But that's not the point -- what makes this performance for me is really the acting, especially from Cory. There are a lot of little beats through that are just great.
Also, have to take a moment and shout out the little dance break for Mike. We haven't really had much chance to see him shine, but he does here.
vs. The Studio Version : There's about a minute of added music - which is mostly the instrumental break and another round of the chorus. There isn't much different arrangement wise - though in the TV version, all the background vocals seem to be mixed at the same level as Rachel's -- but in the studio version, Rachel's voice comes out clearer.
vs. The Original Version : This is one of the more contemporary pop songs that I actually knew before Glee, and I actually really like it. It's incredibly catchy, and the video is kind of hilarious, too. Glee doesn't really do much to change the arrangement of it, and sticks to the whole song rather faithfully. The only twist is that Rachel's being a bit ironic about singing it when the song itself is rather sincere.

That price of glee documentary is such a disrespectful mess. The whole cast has spoken out and said they had nothing to with the documentary and wanted nothing to with it and that it was basically done without their permission. Someone in the doc tried hinting that Lea Michele was responsible for Cory Monteith’s death by saying she was the person that encouraged him to drink and do drugs when that’s not true at all (in Naya’s book she spoke about how Lea loved Cory very much and wasn’t even much of a party person) so them blaming her is disgusting!! They got extras, people who were literally background characters and never had screen time to speak on things they knew nothing about apparently. Naya Rivera‘s dad was also part of the documentary which is so shady to me because a few months ago he tried beefing with Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz on Twitter for hosting their annual fundraiser in honor of Naya and claimed Kevin never asked Naya’s family for permission(Naya’s mom, sister, brother, and ex-husband have been a part of the fundraiser since it started lol) so that was weird on her dad’s part. The documentary is also being very disrespectful about the abuse Melissa Benoist went through when she was married to fellow glee cast member Black Jenner. It’s just a mess.
I saw a few clips on tiktok and it seems sooooo weird. I do not care about an extra’s take on glee. And the fact that not one main cast member participatedinvalidates the whole documentary.

Top 9 songs with better glee cover than original
Glee was a musical comedy-drama which aired from May 19, 2009, to March 20, 2015. It starred a lot of Broadway stars like Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Jenna Ushkowitz, Darren Criss and many more. The main cast also included Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, Dianna Argon, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Heather Morris, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Harry Shum Jr, Mark Sailing and the cast kept growing. They have guest starring from a lot of big stars like Idina Menzel, Neil Patrick Harris, Kristen Chenoweth, Jonathan Groff and many more. Having all new faces for the show (some of them had had small roles previously but no one was  a big star yet), the show creators were surprised at its popularity. The show tackled a lot of societal issues like teen pregnancy, bullying, hate against LGBTQ+ and issues faced by them, sexuality, race and many more. The show mostly covered songs that were already sung by other songs (well they did take permission of the original people before featuring the song). As is the case, there are some songs which sound better in cover form than the original. So here is a list of glee songs that I think sound better than the original version (THIS IS MY OPINION):
Tumblr media
1.Don’t Stop Believing
Tumblr media
This song was originally performed by the band Journey in 1981 and is a rock song. It was not a hit at first but now it is considered as one of the signature songs for the band. In glee it is performed by Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz and Amber Riley. This song is considered as an anthem song for the show as this was the beginning of an era. The song has been performed a total of six time with the main six being in all of them (Except one performance missing Cory). It was first featured at the end of the pilot episode and well I think the original is good but the glee cover gives it a more crispiness and more energy than the original song. This song is one of my favorites from the show.
2.It’s Not Right but It’s Okay
Tumblr media
This song was originally performed by Whitney Houston. I know you must be thinking how could a Whitney Houston cover song be better than the original? Well, it is not better but it is an extremely amazing cover of the song. In glee, it is performed by Darren Criss and the New Direction(the choir group’s name) as background. Darren’s voice gives the song more energy and it sounds bolder in his voice and for some reason, I felt like I was the one who was cheated on rather than Darren’s character whenever I hear this cover (Even though I don’t have a boyfriend). This cover also has a little more upbeat music than the original.
3. Jessie's Girl
Tumblr media
This song was originally performed by Rick Springfield in 1981. In glee it is performed by Cory Monteith. According to BTS footage from the studio of the show, Cory thought that it was one of his best performances till that time (he has had a lot of amazing performances since). The background for the song to be featured in the show is that the girl he likes, Rachel (Lea Michele), is with an older boy named Jesse (Jonathan Groff) and there he sings the song for Rachel. It is a sweet performance with a little funny aspect to it as the girl he likes is really Jesse’s girl. As for the song, Cory’s voice in this makes me want to tap my feet and be Jessie’s Girl!
4.Give Up the Funk
Tumblr media
This was originally performed by the band Parliament in 1975. In glee, it is performed by all the cast members (the New Direction). The original is not as funky as the cover. The cover is funkier and more energetic than the original. The cover makes me wanna bust a move but the original doesn’t. Plus we get a treat of listening a deep Chris Colfer voice (the raps in the start and end).
5.Teenage Dream
Tumblr media
This was originally performed by Katy Perry. In glee, it is performed by Darren Criss and the warblers. It is the first song to feature Darren in the series. I like the glee version of this song because it is acapella and Darren made the song his own. I couldn’t have thought of a better first song for Blaine and I feel in love with him through this song. He performs this song again for Kurt in season 4 on piano which is also very good. (the gif is from the first episode; after a couple of minutes he performs the song, Blaine not Kurt)
 6.Last Christmas
Tumblr media
This was originally performed by Wham! in 1985. In glee, it is performed by Lea Michele and Cory Monteith. Although this song gets covered every Christmas, I like the glee version (and Taylor Swift version). As lea has a soprano vocal range, meaning that she can see similar an opera singer like can carry a note for a longer time than normal, she carries the notes for the song beautifully. And with Cory’s voice mixing with hers, the song seems magical!
7.Total Eclipse of The Heart
Tumblr media
This song was originally performed by Bonnie Tyler in 1983. In glee, it is performed by Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Jonathan Groff and Mark Sailling. The original song is not very good, the voice of the singer is not good in the song (I think she had had a throat surgery and started recording the song before complete rest, but I don’t know). All the covers of this song are good but I particularly like the glee version because it has four people singing it and if you listen closely, you can differentiate when which of the boys is singing. Their voices mix very well. Jonathan and lea’s voices, and Cory and lea’s voices mix perfectly. With Mark, it is okayish.
8.Touch A Touch A
Tumblr media
This was originally performed by Susan Sarandon in the movie The Rocky Horror Show in 1975. In glee, it is performed by Jayma Mays. The glee version is more fun to listen as it is more upbeat and the original sounds a little monotonous.
9.We Found Love
Tumblr media
This was originally performed by Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris in 2011. In glee, it is performed by the New Direction. As in the official music video for the song, it shows drug addiction and violence. Though, the music video is good, I don’t think anyone would have thought that this song could be used in a proposal of a high school teacher to his girlfriend (guidance counselor) and is sung by a couple of high school kids in a swimming pool! the glee performance gave the song a whole new meaning.
So, hope you do check these songs out see for yourself if I am right!!!

Ok, so in the past couple of days I asked Yvette Nicole Brown, Alex Newell, Amber Riley, NeNe Leaks, Keke Palmer, Niecy Nash, Brandon Michael Hall, James Earl, and Marcel Spears who all worked with Lea on the shows she did with them. So far, the only person who responded to me was James Earl who worked with Lea on Glee and Scream Queens. Here’s his response.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rest haven’t gotten back to me. While I appreciate that he answered my question, and that he didn’t have a bad experience with Lea, this is just one person’s response, and to me that is not enough. And just right now, I took some screenshots of the comment section of her “apology”. Here they are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apparently she was rude to understudies and background artists. And there were one or two tweets from a couple days ago to prove that, although I didn’t screenshoot those.
I read a few tweets that said she was rude to fans, one especially I recall of a woman who ran into her and Cory Monteith, she said that Cory was nice and Lea wasn’t. Not only do I feel bad for the people she treated terribly, I feel bad for Cory for having to put up with her bullshit the whole time he’s known her. I didn’t screenshoot those but, there was a fan encounter comment on Instagram from the same post. Here it is.
Tumblr media
To end this, here’s an Instagram comment of someone critisizing her apology which I thought was funny.
Tumblr media
Anyways that’s all I have to say. Thank you for your time.

6 Years Without Cory
I can’t believe I didn’t realize it until I looked on Twitter - I literally didn’t realize the date with everything in my life going on.
Back when I was at secondary school, I was such a huge Glee - from 2011 when I was 13, for that matter. Glee was such a big part of my adolescence, and I was obsessive to the point where I was known at school as “the Glee Freak” and teased over it. I wrote Glee FanFiction, listened to the music, had a tumblr that was completely Glee. I even went and saw the Glee Live! Concert at the O2 on 26th June 2011 (it was my first ever concert).
I won’t bullshit and say that Finn was my favourite character because he wasn’t. My best friend at the time absolutely LOVED him and Cory Monteith though. I was the one who got that ex best friend into Glee in the first place, and then I got her mum into it too. My friend adored Finn/Cory so much that we would constantly joke that she wanted him for Christmas, and I actually bought her a pillow that said “Property of Cory Monteith” for Christmas one year. (In our defense, we were 14 at the time - teenage girls are silly sometimes!) (also, for the record, my favourites at the time were Kurt/Chris and Blaine/Darren)
I can still remember my mum coming into my bedroom, waking me up and telling me the news. Hearing that Cory had died hurt so much. He was the lead of the show, but beyond that he was a good person. I didn’t meet him in person, or anything like that (the closest being that I saw him and the cast sing at the concert), but you just felt like you knew him by watching his interviews or watching him on Glee. He had one of those beautiful open souls that extended to everyone who saw him on the show - you couldn’t help but like him because he was so funny and genuine. We knew that he had his demons - he was open about his problems because he hoped that it might prevent young people turning to the same things he did when he was a teenager - but we admired his strength and honesty. It honestly felt like we Gleeks lost a friend or a brother - that was how important he was to us.
I hate when people just say that he was “a druggie” and “good riddance” - having a drug addiction does NOT make you a bad person. Cory was kind and loved people, loved the fans of the show and loved his friends/family. He supported charities and hoped that his own story of addiction might inspire other people to avoid drink/drugs, that it would inspire those who had the same addictions to seek help. His problem stemmed from a turbulent childhood, and he hoped that he could maybe inspire other people with the same kind of background to turn to something else other than drugs. He tried so hard to beat his addiction, even going to rehab a few months before he died, but addictions are hard to beat. Sometimes all it takes is one slip up to tip you over the edge, one bad day.
Cory deserved to live a long life - he deserved to be happy, to be successful, to be married, to have a family like he wanted. He was so talented, with a future ahead of him, but above all he was kind. He was a good person.
We miss you, tall-awkward-Canadian-actor-drummer-person ♥️ Keep drumming up in heaven

Glee - S1 E2 (Showmance)
Mama Mia, here I go again!
Please don’t tell me this GROWN MAN had his license plate changed to “GLEE” to reflect the high school club he runs. PLEASE.
Rachel brings a whole-ass SUITCASE to school? I know she’s extra by nature but PLEASE.
Finn just Doesn’t Know What Things Are! I adore him.
You’re really just going to walk by Kurt hanging out by the dumpster with a bunch of dudes who harass him in the hallways? AGAIN? Nice one.
“One day, you will all work for me” I doubt these guys are going to be working up the ranks at Vogue.com, Kurt, but I rate the energy.
Emma you’re better than this dude. Run. Run as fast as your hollow bird pelvis will let you.
SANTANA’S FIRST LINE!!! You’re right, they should get a room.
For all the creepy obsessing Will’s done so far over the glee kids, you’d think HE would be the one to notice how they don’t have enough members to qualify
Sue points out a bunch of special ed classes, and yet I’m pretty sure she says McKinley has no real support available for special needs students later on? They must be whack classes
These people are really acting like all Will does is coach the glee kids even though he’s literally a Spanish teacher
Early Quinn may be incredibly mean, but like, I’d say thanks if she killed me
Rachel really has a whole spare outfit ready to change in to post-slushying? I guess that makes sense if it happens that regularly
Cory Monteith REALLY couldn’t dance and we love him for it
Disco didn’t suck until Mr Schue got his grubby little mitts on it
I almost forgot about Kurt’s selection of hats. What is this one? A fez? It’s fez shaped
Why is Kurt so sure they’ll throw fruit specifically? Is that McKinley asshole custom?
Terri’s actress, once again nailing the act of making me want to throttle her
Kendra also nails that.
A “used” house oh my god
THIS ARGUMENT BETWEEN KURT AND MERCEDES IS GOLDEN. “You need to call me before you dress yourself. You loo like a technicolor zebra.” They REALLY match. God I hope they ad-libbed that.
It’s the first rap of the show, folks.
I hate Mr Schue doing Kanye, I really do, but imagine Finn doing it instead like he planned. Better? Worse? I can’t even tell anymore.
The LOOK Kurt gives Mercedes when she starts belting out the Jamie Foxx part... Don’t be jealous hon you’ll get your bars. For real though his face is hilarious, he looks like he’s worried she’s about to burst a blood vessel with all that TALENT
Sign #5 That Mr Schuester Is An Asshole: Get your hands OFF of Kurt Will Schuester he doesn’t want to dance! Tbh though I love season 1 Kurt during the group numbers because he just always looks SO done.
Mr Schue’s also wearing a T-shirt that says “DITCH PLANS” on it. Please DITCH the state instead?
KEVIN MCHALE IS THE UNSUNG VOCAL HERO OF THIS WHOLE SHOW AND I WILL NEVER LET ANYBODY FORGET IT
Watching them all sing in a goofy, candid way is honestly healing.
KURT’S DOING THE SINGLE LADIES RING-HAND MOVE IN THE BACKGROUND THIS BOY REALLY LOVES HIS BEY. Me too Kurt me too
They straight up gave Rachel no gag reflex and had her guidance counsellor make a joke about it? Ok RIB
“Have you ever liked somebody so much you just want to lock yourself in your room, turn on sad music and cry?” Same girl, same
AAAaaaAAALllLlLLLLLlll BYYYYY MYYY SEEEEeeeEEEEEEEELFFFF.........bY mYsEeElF i’M bY mYsElF
Ok I like Emma but she sometimes kinda sucks at her job
“He doesn’t even notice me” Rachel, hon, he’s probably already warned his neighbours about you
“Gay parents encourage rebellion” PICK A SIDE, SUE! I really can’t keep up with the convenient flip-flopping of her bigotry. And with Jean, you’d think she’d go off on Rachel for calling people “chromosonally-challenged”
Finn, of course you know who Justin Timberlake is... That’s Mr Schue’s hotter, less evil twin!
I love how they have to label Robin Thicke on the poster - you know, because of how awful and irrelevant he was even then?
Half the janitors are just gone. How has this school not been closed down already?
Sign #6 That Mr Schuester Is An Asshole: Mr Schue: I want to build a club where people can express themselves musically Literally every single member: Hello Mr Schue, I’m here to express how much I dislike the music you’re making us perform. Mr Schue: Never talk to me or my fake-unborn-son ever again
Humble, modest Finn going d’aww shucks and telling Rachel to stop complimenting him is adorable. I love him!!!
How could I forget the celibacy club... I almost feel bad for Quinn, he’ like the only person there who genuinely cares about being celibate. I don’t buy that anybody’s convinced that Puck’s a virgin...
The fact that Finn thought joining the celibacy club would get him laid is just... Yeah. It suits him.
Jacob Ben Israel you will die by my hand you slimy, unforgivable bastard. NOBODY IS OBLIGATED TO GET YOUR DINGER WET, SCUMBAG! Short skirts are not an entitlement!!!
I still don’t know what Puck means when he says “Those skirts are crunchy toast” and I don’t think I want to know.
OH GOD T H E M A I L M A N . . .
Finn Hudson has canonically nearly killed a man and I don’t think anybody talks about that enough.
I beg all of you to look up this scene and listen to the way Finn goes “Ahahaha... Driving’s fun...” Like it just brings me so much joy. What a doofus.
Carole’s first instinct is to yell “OH MY GOD YOU’VE KILLED HIM WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?!” Calm down queen he’s gon be fine
Quinn really hates contraception, huh!
I know your wife is a shit, Mr Schue, but it’s fucking reprehensible to lead on another woman. It’s clearly intentional at this point I’m sorry, you don’t put chalk dust on somebody’s nose like that platonically!
Rachel: We’re going to give them what they want! Kurt: Blood? God I love him
I do love the running gag of Figgins wildly overestimating the excitement for the assemblies tbh
This school doesn’t have working toilets but, hey, on the bright side, all you have to do to get expelled is shit yourself!
“Yay, Glee! Glee kids hooray!” Emma just warms my cockles
Will referring to the glee club and saying “We’re on our way back” like no, old man, you’re not getting clout for this. Then again, neither are any of the students until they’ve graduated...
AHH, PUSH IT! KURT’S HIPS. LOOK AT THEM GO. HE’S SO INTO IT.
I WANT THE FACE SUE MAKES WHEN SHE SEES FIGGINS TAPPING HIS FOOT TATTOOED ON MY HEART
Finn’s face as he gets ready to start his part... He’s so nervous. Bless him...
THE PERFECT TIMING OF KURT SLAPPING HIS ASS. And then the zoom on that fucking fanny pack going crazy this scene is so fucking iconic. That fanny pack has been burned into my retinas forever.
AND THE WAY HE WOBBLES HIS HEAD AROUND AS HE STEPS BACK. KURT! FUCKING! HUMMEL!
Oh god, now he’s crawling across the floor to Mercedes. I can’t tear my eyes away he’s GOING for it!
They really had Finn and Rachel go that hard? Honestly up until that point, the routine isn’t too overtly sexual, but now I understand why they get in trouble
I DON’T GET HOW THEY’RE STILL LOOKED DOWN ON AFTER THIS PERFORMANCE! Nearly everybody applauds! RIB just had to have that cake and eat it too.
I demand Will’s resignation too, Sue
Ah, the approved songs list... That they will proceed to ignore for the rest of the season post the Unholy Trinity’s audition
Sign #7 That Mr Schuester Is An Asshole: He has NO PLACE to be mad at Rachel here. You didn’t listen to any of your students, you wouldn’t compromise, and now they’re going on a sex riot. You did this!
Ken Tanaka you cannot undermine a woman’s self esteem and convince her to settle for you as a second choice, and then complain about feeling like a second choice... WHY do they ever act like he’s a victim here?!
Finn saw that whole-ass picnic set up and didn’t think to ask about it? King. I love one (1) himbo. The way he says “You’re cool, Rachel” just fucks me up every time...
She pours him the TINIEST drink in the world? Girl the cups not even a tenth full and he’s a big boy...
The real OTP is Finn x Airplane Cups
Why does Rachel lie down for the kiss... Is it solely so Finn can have his little overflow at the mayo factory or???
THE MAILMAN SCENE HAPPENS EVERY TIME HE KA-BLAMOS OH MY GOD HOW DID I FORGET...
Look, Rachel, I get that it sucks that he ran away, but he literally has a girlfriend? You couldn’t have expected things to go that well...
THE UNHOLY TRINITY FORMS... I’M QUAKING
Throwback to how blatantly obvious it was that Santana and Quinn weren’t singing at all. How did they think they’d get away with that...
Brittany’s original sideswept bangs? Ugh. Giving me LIFE.
Dianna’s voice turned me gay. I’m genuinely convinced my sexuality is Quinn Fabray’s fault and I’m not even mad?
By this point we know next to nothing about Santana’s character, but the second Sue suggests sabotage, her face fucking lights up. She’s living for it already 10/10
Will you can’t make Emma tag along to all your janitorial shifts I’m sorry. It’s just that you’re married. And a jackass.
I know Rachel went behind his back, but there’s no real reason to give Quinn the Don’t Stop Believing solo? She’s talented and incredible and I love her, sure, but it doesn’t suit her voice at all my guy, if you didn’t have biscuits for ears you’d know that...
Is this the only instance where Will takes actual responsibility for the glee club’s actions rather than blaming it all on the kids? Wow... A rare gem.
The way he says “I should never have pushed disco so hard...” All serious like... Get a fucking grip
I can believe that Rachel’s neighbours would sue her for singing all the god damn time
Rachel singing “Take A Bow” is more fitting than I realised. At first I was like, “that’s dumb, Finn doesn’t really realise what he did anyway” but it fits her character to use a song and spin it so she feels empowered by it in the end. Or at least, tries to feel that way.
So there’s episode 2! What a hot mess. We love our hot mess.

Ok first of all, you’re welcome 😜 and second, I kind of assumed it would be the other way around!
Patrick used to watch it when it was airing because Rachel watched it religiously. She used to “make him” watch it with her. He would pretend that he wasn’t interested but he was really into the music and when Blaine showed up he had all kinds of confusing feelings that he shouldn’t have when his girlfriend was sitting next to him.
He’s searching for something to put on in the background while he works and she sees the show on Netflix and is like “Meh sure whatever” but then ends up getting sucked into it. David finds him on the couch with a completely work spreadsheet in front of him and is like “Oh my GOD are you watching GLEE? Patrick, seriously?” He tells Patrick about this one time he swears he made out with one of them at a party but the non-disclosure agreement prevents him from naming names. Alexis had a three day whirlwind romance with Cory Monteith before he started dating Lea Michele. He sits down with Patrick and starts making snarky comments about everything but then a few days later, Patrick is in the other room and he hears singing. He walks into the den and David is just full on watching the show and Patrick is like YOU’RE WATCHING IT WITHOUT ME?? David hates that he got sucked into it but now they’re both in this to the end whether they like it or not.
Who decides to binge watch Glee from the beginning during quarantine, David or Patrick? And which one of them starts to hate watch it but legit couldn't stop if they tried?
my headcanon about david and patrick watching glee is that david used to watch it when it was airing but not patrick (and he literally has no idea what the show is about). david decides to watch it from the start when he’s bored and realizes that all seasons are on netflix, plus the last 2 seasons are kinda blurry to him. so he starts watching casually... you know like..... i can’t believe i’m actually rewatching glee in 2020, but it might as well happen at this point. he starts off by complaining a lot because mr schue is way too much in the first season (well in the show really) but slowly it starts getting better and the nostalgia hits him hard. so even though he started the show again just to put something in the background while he does other things by preggers (1x04) he’s 10000% invested in the show.
patrick on the other hand, he never watched glee, and he didn’t really plan on participating in david’s rewatch. but he’s in the room on his cellphone while david watches it, and he just can’t help glancing at the television and one thing after the other he gets really into it (he starts off by telling david that it’s because of the music but that’s really just part of it). sometimes they both get shocked at some things that happen and get said in the show, but david is also quick to go on rants about how glee is one the best comedies and about how much impact the show had in the first 2/3 seasons. as they watch every episode david fills patrick in on all the drama between the cast and patrick gets really into the glee cast gossip (both david and patrick love gossiping you can tell me otherwise.... patrick might deny is but still he loves it). as much as david loves watching the show, he loves watching patrick watch it even more since he has 0 idea what happens in it. the face patrick makes when blaine is introduced in 2x06 is PRICELESS. when they get to s4 david tries to prepare patrick to ep 4x04 the break up without actually spoiling it and patrick is devastated, he tells david that he’ll never be able to listen to don’t speak and the scientist ever again. for a second he low key gets mad at himself for getting into the show in the first place ajhfdshjg (that feelings stays for almost all of s4). after blaine & kurt sing american boy in s5, david and patrick get drunk one night and create “canadian boy” (it becomes Their Number at christmas). by the time they get to s6, david tried to prepare patrick to the insanity that is that season, but still nothing could’ve prepared him (during the hurt locker part 1 & 2 patrick asks him if those episode really aired and when he says yes, patrick google it), but david realizes that the season is better than he remembers and they enjoy it and laugh a lot. they both sob all the way through the 2 hours finale and they don’t even try to hide it (they even made sure they had ice cream so that they could eat it from the tub while watching it).
after that, patrick makes a playlist of all the songs he likes in the show (a playlist that he does sometimes play at the store). patrick sees a warbler tie at a store one time and he buys it he doesn’t even know if he’s ever going to wear it, but he couldn’t just not buy it. at the first open mic night after quarantine is over, patrick sings an acoustic version of teenage dream. at some point patrick finds out about the deleted ring box scene and he gets “mad” at david for not telling him about it. to make it up to him, david makes him his own ring made out of rose apothecary wrapping paper.
david favourite characters are rachel and quinn and patrick favourite character is blaine. blaine is also a take charge kinda guy and i feel like patrick would like that about him. also i could see david go on rants about how rachel was underappreciated in the show and that it was unfair that she was made out to be sort of a villain when she was just very passionate and very motivated to achieve her dreams (like sharpay in hsm)
david believes he’s a better rapper than mr schue. patrick asks him to prove it.
(also moira auditioned to be on glee)

It's been one hell of a week for Darren Criss, whose debut on "Glee" Tuesday (Nov. 9) has been followed by Internet adulation, rumors of becoming a regular character on the show -- and his rendition of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" is on track to becoming the show's top-selling first week digital release to date.
"When it rains, it pours, man," Criss says, laughing. "'Glee' stuff aside, I'm playing a show on Saturday [at The Mint in Los Angeles] so I'm rehearsing with my band, I'm playing host to a friend this weekend and there's laundry and food and stuff and a lot of shit is going wrong with my apartment."
We are, honestly, keeping Criss up from a nap, so let's address those rumors one at a time: He's not a regular cast member on "Glee" … yet.
"Of course I would love to be on the show as long as possible," he says. "I do love working with everybody and he is a wonderful character. I love what the show stands for and the place it fits in our social pop consciousness. And the end of the day, I trust the creators and I'm happy for the time I've been given. Whatever happens, happens."
And yes, Criss did first audition for the show 2.5 years ago: For the role of Finn, now played by Cory Monteith.
"I was pretty new to Hollywood and they didn't really know my type, but I could have told anybody -- I'm not a football player," he says. "And they were like: 'But you can sing, right?'"
The role of dreamy Blaine -- a gay student at a different school who forms a bond with McKinley High's Kurt, played by Chris Colfer -- was the role that stuck. The fact that the song the character sings in his debut was "Teenage Dream," thrilled Criss.
"I freaked out. I mean, I freaked out," he says. "As a pop writer, I'm a big Max Martin/Dr. Luke guy and if I'm writing for mainstream pop, I use them as reference points, for sure."
Criss's rendition of "Teenage Dream" isn't the first time he's been on the Billboard charts; Criss co-wrote the music and lyrics to "Me and My Dick," a production of the theater group at the University of Michigan, which entered Top Cast Albums at No. 11 earlier this year; his "Human" EP debuted at No. 30 on Heatseeker Albums, and "A Very StarKid Album," named after Criss' production company, debuted at No. 19 on Top Compilations.
"I'm sort of a musical mercenary," he says. "I have a musical theater background, but when I write for myself, I'm a guy with a guitar so I sound like that guy. And my brother is in a really killer band in New York called Freelance Whales and when I play with him. It's our own little electro indie thing."
So at the end of a chaotic week, has Criss had a chance to stop and reflect?
"I attribute the success of the track to so many factors other than myself," he says. "I was the lucky son of a bitch that got to be a part of it.

Okay so I'm just curious about the We Love you Cory? Alspo, what was your url before FBAWTFT came out?
"We Love You Cory" refers to Cory Monteith, a Canadian actor who used to play Finn Hudson on "Glee". He passed away after a drug overdose on July 13th in 2013, and even though fans didn't know him personally, it felt like losing a loved one. (I used to be obsessed with Glee) Finn wasn't my favourite character but I admired Cory for battling his demons and wanting to encourage kids from similar backgrounds to not start drugs/to get help for addiction.
Tumblr media
Before FBAWTFT came out, I had a lot of usernames - the one just before FBAWTFT came out was "butcherboyaaron", a reference to Edward Norton's character Aaron Stampler in "Primal Fear" (1996). In the film, Aaron is an altar boy accused of murdering an Archbishop and the media dub him "the butcher boy" due to the nature of the crime. I highly recommend the film.
