OK a little backstory.

Zero and Corrin were out and got attacked. Zero ended up getting hurt so they hurried back to the castle. After his injuries got checked out, Zero and Corrin have a chat. Corrin feels responsible but Zero assures him to not feel bad. It wasn't his fault. Leo and Takumi come into the room to see what happened. Leo being very close to Zero and having a "interesting past" with his retainer he gets upset at Corrin. Then blames him for getting Zero hurt. Takumi however is more in defense of Corrin and tells Leo to chill out.

How were you introduced to TOA? I played FE4 and the brainworms took over, so I started following the genealogy tag on tumblr. I kept seeing posts about X character being accepted to the officer's academy, so eventually I looked into what that was all about.

Do you have any pets? No.

What is your favourite time of year and why? (Season, holiday, general period) My wardrobe is minmaxed for warm weather, I hate layers and I like having my window open, and having hours and hours of daylight. So summer.

What is your IRL occupation? IT.

Some interests and things you like/enjoy? Pixel art and cross-stitch, card games, social deduction games, doctor who, long walks.

What non-Fire Emblem games do you play? Zero escape, Aitsf, puyo puyo tetris, balatro, slay the spire, ace attorney, umineko, other vns.

Favourite Pokemon type & Pokemon: Delphox. I like dragon, fire and dark types.

I like dressing fancy. I regularly go to hang out with my friends wearing floor-length gowns, my grandad's boat cloak, and heels. I have a drag queen friend who sometimes gives me clothes he doesn't want any more, and it's great.

(Apart from the wrinkle where RD is technically my brother's and not mine) I own every FE game that got an English release.

I will always spell things the British way.

How did you get into Fire Emblem? At the time feh was released I was just playing every nintendo mobile game that came out. I thought the characters were cute and I found a second-hand copy of birthright sometime later. I then had to wait until Christmas to play it cause my brother's 3DS was broken.

Who was the first character ever to make you go “ooh I like this one in particular” and why? Can be any context and reason! I liked M!Robin's art in heroes and he was the first 5* I summoned. Also I fell in love with Kaden the instant I met him cause he's cute (unfortunately my Corrin was already married)

Any Fire Emblem crushes? Like so many. For brevity I'll give the biggest one from each game: Wolf, Sonya, Arvis, Karel (FE7), Joshua/Cormag, Nasir, Reina, Jeritza, Zelkov. Shout out to Arvis for being the reason I played FE4 to begin with, and Jeritza cause the morning he became playable and bisexual I went insane.

If you’ve played (or are familiar with) the following games, who was your first S support? Who would you S support nowadays? I prefer to S support a new character each run cause I like filling the support log. The only time I've S supported a character more than once is the bisexual ones in 3H. So instead I'm giving my first and my favourite. Who was your first TOA muse? If you no longer have them, can you see yourself picking them up again? I had Larcei for over a year and honestly I'm really happy with what I did with her (even if rereading her stuff makes me cringe). So as much as I love her I have no strong reason to pick her up... apart from that swordmaster drabble I never got around to.

Do you believe you have a type of character you gravitate towards writing? (If you filled this out last year, has this changed in any way?) There's overlap between the 'old' and 'new' gens of my muses. There's a hotheaded sword girl, a mage with issues :tm: and a cute blond guy. I think I have an easier time writing characters that have a positive outlook, and say what they mean.

Do you have characters or types of characters you don’t think you can handle writing, but wish you could? Idk really. I don't think I'm that good at writing sad shit, so muses that have heavier stuff going on I'd struggle with.

What kind of scenes, situations etc do you believe you enjoy writing the most? (If you filled this out last year, has this changed in any way?) I like being a little silly. Some of my favourite posts have been where I've just thought up some nonsense, and allowed myself to write it.

Do you have any scenario in mind for your muse(s) that gets you thinking “man I hope I get to write this one day”? I want Forde to be obliterated emotionally. I do not care if these emotions are positive or negative.

Favourite TOA-related memories? SO many this group is awesome. I loved coming back after some time off and seeing what muses were still around. There's one in particular that Larcei and Forde are both close friends with and it cheeses me so much. Anyway happyland was my favourite event ever thank you mods.

I probably wouldn't have been so irate about it if I didn't like the other deadpool movies. Like they're stupid and annoying but I do like them, I really like deadpool 2 I think it's genuinely well made. This was not.

So there were actually several things I liked:

Hugh Jackman seems like he's genuinely trying and I thought his character was, at the start, reasonably compelling. Like he's this total failure got all his friends killed depressed as fuck and doesn't even want to fight. Unfortunately he then becomes Generic Marvel Hero (personality variation: grumpy) and all that is lost

Emma Corrin is decent as the main villain and her outfit is cute

Matthew Macfayden is so good, this is him operating at 5% of his powers but he's genuinely so funny, his line delivery is amazing

I cracked a smile at one (1) joke (Wolverine very flatly saying "we don't know that guy")

Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfayden despite coming off well are given absolutely nothing interesting to do

Every line of dialogue has "fucking" shoved in at some random interval, has zero effect and just comes off like WHOA GUYS LOOK... THEY SAID THE BAD WORD IN A MARVEL MOVIE... ARE THEY ALLOWED TO DO THAT????

Deadpool's annoying dialogue is even worse than usual, we need to shoot Ryan Reynolds in the street like a dog. People were hooting and hollering in my cinema. Why. It's simply not funny

I hate scenes where the hero(es) go up against a thousand random indistinguishable goons and kill them all in one hit, there are approximately five hundred of those and they all last what feels like hours

I hate scenes where the hero(es) go up against someone exactly as strong as them and just punch/stab/shoot each other for ages and do no lasting damage so what was even the point, there are approximately five hundred of those and they all last what feels like hours

The emotional core of the movie is absolutely non existent, it's that Deadpool got dumped by Vanessa for not caring enough about saving the world or whatever so he's trying to prove himself as a superhero?? This is not compelling

I am not a fan of massive scale "we have to save the universe" stuff in general and where I think the previous two movies benefited from being a lot smaller scale (we have to beat the bad guy bc he is evil, we have to stop this boy killing someone bc then he'll become evil) this is like THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE IS AT RISK IT'S GOING TO BE OBLITERATED which essentially means there are no stakes at all. Like that means nothing. Who gives a shit

I also hate the stupid multiverse shit and I might have turned a blind eye had it not been so egregious. They get sent to this dimension where all the superhero rejects go and every minute of the film after that is like "look it's Elektra from daredevil 2003! Remember her? Look it's Random Xman #59! Look it's doctor strange's magic ring!" Ohhhhhhhh my god who CARES

There's this bit where he's trying to join the avengers and Jon Favreau gives this whole speech about how important they are, it's just five minutes of Kevin Feige sucking his own dick cumming into his own mouth and swallowing

First Take: Deadpool and Wolverine - zero Fox given in the long-awaited threequel

Spoiler free as usual. Because the MCU is back.

SYNOPSIS: Wolverine is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the loudmouth Deadpool. They team up to defeat a common enemy.

Sometimes it takes a full on corporate acquisition - a corpacq, if you will - to speak things into existence. In 2014 the infamous ‘leak’ prompted Fox to greenlight a Deadpool film within the X-Men universe, one which didn’t have his mouth sewn shut. A sequel followed. Then… the void. Covid. The Disney buyout. The downfall of the MCU as the multiverse saga began. But now the self proclaimed Marvel Jesus is back with the happy ending - one which brings the curtain down on a 25 year legacy for certain properties.

Shawn Levy takes the helm of this threequel, following Tim Miller and David Leitch into the universe where breaking the 4th wall doesn’t get you fired for creative differences - and he’s a director who knows Ryan Reynolds’ mind incredibly well having directed The Adam Project and most notably Free Guy. What we get is a 2 hour 8 minute ride that brings the best of the Fox era into the MCU - albeit not as rudely as anticipated… even more rudely. Having co-written the script with Reynolds, veteran Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, along with Zeb Wells, Levy’s input on this film shows a classy understanding of what it takes to pull off a 15 certificate Marvel Studios film, and even with elements of the TVA plotline that viewers of Loki will be very familiar with, this is a film that makes it easier for those who don’t follow the Disney+ shows to understand everything, almost like a full reset of Marvel’s storytelling. It’s shot incredibly by George Richmond (of Kingsman fame - one particular sequence gave me ‘church scene’ vibes) and the score from Rob Simonsen just about does the job, with a cracker of a soundtrack album for good measure.

As for the cast, trying to stay spoiler free is easier said than done - so we’ll give it a damn good go. Reynolds provides the fun as ever with all the self-referential jokes you could potentially think of, Hugh Jackman returns, and boy is it fantastic to see him back with the claws in a way which respects the ending of THAT 2017 solo film, and supporting them is Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams and Karan Soni to represent the Deadpool franchise - with new additions Matthew Mcfadyen and Emma Corrin leading the charge from the old regime into the Feige world. It is worth staying back, as is protocol on these films, as there is a fantastic tribute to the journey which brought us to this major turning point for Marvel’s film output, and ultimately, what could be the last time we see the words 20th Century Fox on a cinema screen. This isn’t just a Deadpool movie, this is the powers that be acknowledging that some storylines backfired big time - and they have heard us. With Comic-Con this weekend, for the first time in a while… I’m excited to see where Marvel Studios will take us.

THE VERDICT

The mad lads did it. A proper Deadpool movie under the constraints of the MCU, and still a lovely 15 certificate. Obviously it does feel a smidge more corporate, but all things considered, it’s the film we all wanted, with a Wolverine we have begged to see on-screen since 2000.

M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.

Oh, this is an easy pick. X from Mega Man for sure (specifically the X series incarnation). He's seen as a genuinely friendly character no matter what species you are, and honestly, would easily keep me in check if for some stupid reason I did something dumb.

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

Ooh, a multi-fandom question! The funny thing is all three of these characters are involved in time travel shenanigans and are very tragic characters. Nope, no pattern there, nope.

Quint (Mega Man Classic): I bet no one is surprised by this, given that a ZX version of him is technically my Tumblr avatar. My OG favorite, Quint was actually the first character of any fandom that I completely fell in love with, and a lot of my early Mega Man fanfics were about him. There are still Mega Man fans that, to this day, recognize my old username of RandyPandy and think, "Oh, the Quint fan!" The games didn't explore him much, but the moment that I found out about his backstory, all I could think of was "Wow, that's an incredibly tragic character that can be interpreted in so many different ways."

Inigo (Fire Emblem): I actually played Fates first, so that means I fell in love with Inigo's older self, Laslow, first (my Corrin married him because I liked him the most out of the possible candidates). Then I played the Hidden Fates DLC and Awakening, and learned his backstory. His policy of "Smile so that no one knows you're hurting and so you can make others happy" really struck with me during a time where I tended to hide how I felt about a lot of things (I was in an abusive job when I discovered FE), and it really endeared me to him even more than his Fates self had.

Bruno (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds): This pick I had to think about, given that my two main fandoms are Mega Man and Fire Emblem, and every other fandom that I'm into, I tend to rotate around in my head (thanks, ADHD). But Bruno was my wallpaper on my old Windows 7 desktop until it died. Beyond that, he really brings up the question of what personhood is given that he's an android mimicking a dead human, and was probably one of the most interesting characters in the season that he was in -- he was a full-on mystery (and if you only watched the dub, he remained a mystery), though there were plenty of clues that he wasn't quite what he appeared to be (he really demonstrates the trope "Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass", and really, after he got his memories back, it's a question of "How much of his dumbassery was just an act so the others didn't get suspicious, and how much of it was his true personality, without the stressors of having to make sure the world survives?")

R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?

Ooh, a question about platonic relationships, there definitely aren't enough of those. If we're going with a canon friendship, then I'm going to have to go with the Doctor and Wilfred Mott from Doctor Who (though X and Zero from Mega Man were a close second, I went with these two because I absolutely adore them AND in honor of Bernard Cribbins). I've enjoyed every single interaction with Wilf and the Doctor in every episode that they've been in together (especially the ones in The End of Time), and their relationship really did strike me as very parent/child, and honestly? The Doctor needs that parent/grandparent-like figure that he can just go and hide from the world with.

Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?

Oh boy, where to even begin with this. XD Well, for one, I've seen enough Jujutsu Kaisen, Twisted Wonderland, and Danganronpa from you that I see that and my first thought is, "Oh, Kim's fandom!" Other fandoms that I've noticed that several of my friends/mutuals follow are My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, Terraria, Final Fantasy XIV, and more. XD

Kirby used to be on that list, but that changed when I did research, watched the anime, played a few games, and then wrote Lucid Dreaming.

You approached the question during training. Your goal was to look nonchalant, which seemed to work despite how your heart pounded. 

The two of you had a passionate night not long ago. It shocked you to think a little life could be born from it. Elise was the one who told you after your sudden bouts of dizziness.

While you were happy about being pregnant, you weren’t sure about Niles. But you needed to know. Hence the reason you challenged fate with six simple words;

“How do you feel about children?”

Niles’ training blade froze before touching the dummy’s head. You noticed the wary glance, but he maintained his composure. 

“My, that’s quite a question. Where’d that come from?”

You shrugged, attempting to look thoughtful. “I dunno. I was just wondering. I’ve noticed that you tend to avoid them whenever we go into villages for supplies.”

“Maybe you spend too much time with them.” He challenged you coolly, and you rolled your eyes. “While you’re wasting time with strange children, I’m securing supplies like everyone else.”

“Not true! Elise and Sakura play with them, too!” 

“That’s because they’re children, too.” He said.

“So, what, does that make me a kid too, since I also play with them?” You challenged, and he shrugged.

“If that’s how you want to see it.” He had an inkling of amusement on his lips when you huffed, turning your nose up.

“Then you must like children if you married one, smart guy.”

“Why the sudden interest in whether I like them or not?” He turned, finally catching onto your nerves. “You’re hiding something from me, aren’t you?”

“As if I could hide anything from you.” You laughed, hopping off the crate.

“...Sure.” He muttered, the sword in his hands swapped for a bow and arrow. “Aren’t you staying for the rest of practice? I might need help setting up the targets.”

"I’m sure Takumi can help. Besides, I promised Elise I’d help with something, so I’ll see you at dinner, okay?”

“If you say so.” Niles responded softly, his quiet tone induced by your strange exit. 

Whether it was his eagle eye or his marital senses, he knew something was wrong. He just had to find out what.

He made quick work of his target practice, and followed your trail to Elise’s tent. The sun had set since he last saw you. While he could just ask you what the problem was at said meal, he preferred the truth over another stalling conversation.

He pressed against the back of the tent, hidden from view as he listened. Sure enough, he heard you talking to Elise, along with Sakura and Hinoka. Whatever was going on, was serious. Princesses didn’t waste time.

“I think you’re overreacting, Corrin. There’s no way he’d be closed off to something like that. It’s such a normal thing to want, not even that angsty old archer can be opposed to it.”

“Somehow, I feel like you’re wrong.” You chuckled, sounding a touch nervous. It made his frown deepen. “He’s not a ‘normal’ person. And there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just...well, he didn’t even answer. He avoided it by asking why I brought it up.”

So this was about your conversation. Niles pulled away from the canvas, feeling his suspicions rise..

“Of course he didn’t! It sounds like you approached it strangely.” Hinoka scoffed, “You should’ve told him from the start! It’s best to get it over with and suffer the consequences later, y’know?”

“Even then, I don’t know how I’d approach that. I can’t pop in and say ‘Hello dear! I’ve got a life-changing revelation for you, whether you like it or not!’”

“Why not? I was thinking of something along those lines.” Hinoka chuckled, and the rest of the girls groaned. 

Niles, on the other hand, just discovered a whole new form of panic.

‘ ‘Life-changing revelation’? Whether I like it or not...life-changing…’ 

His mind began to swirl with the possibilities, none of them good. It was the dinner bell that convinced him to move.

He’d get his answer that evening.

“Anyway, so I said, ‘There’s no way Saizou’s chest is bigger than Kaze’s!’, and I was going to prove it until Jakob-”

“Corrin.”

You nearly choked on your food. Behind you towered Niles. You wanted to get out of there and hide when he grabbed your shoulder.

“-Niles!”

“We need to talk.” He said ominously, lifting you from your seat in a single movement. You didn’t bother fighting him (lest he carry you).

“What is the meaning of this, Niles?” Xander asked seriously, “We’ve just begun to eat. Surely whatever you need can wait ‘til after.”

“Yeah! The story was getting good, too!” Elise chimed in, looking up at Niles with her Bambi Eyes of Doom. You were thankful you had such wonderful siblings who put their lives on the line, but it didn’t work.

“Trust me, it can’t wait.” Without so much as an apology, he stormed off you in tow. What he was upset about you had yet to decipher; was he mad because he found out you were with child? That couldn’t be possible.

“Niles, what in the world’s the matter-”

“What are you hiding from me?” He demanded the second you were away from the tent. “What aren’t you telling me?”

He was mad because he didn’t know. You attempted a smile when you met his gaze, placing a soothing hand over his.

“It’s nothing you need to worry about, really! I’m just trying to figure it all out. If you’ll be patient a little while longer, I’m sure I’ll-”

He shook your hand from his, his glare increasingly dangerous. You felt uncomfortable under the stare reserved for his enemies. “You would keep secrets from your husband?”

“That’s not fair.” You frowned at him, getting the vibe he wasn’t approaching this maturely. “Why’s it so wrong for me to keep something from you? You’re the one with secrets!”

“Irrelevant.” He growled, "My secrets are to protect you. You’re not supposed to have secrets.”

“Not even temporary ones, huh?”

“Not when our marriage is founded on trust. So tell me what you’re hiding, and stop acting like some petulant child sneaking around!” 

His demand was met with a very nervous, tense silence. 

“So you’re not going to tell me?”

“I can’t.” You murmured, looking down. He resisted the urge to grab you. “Not until I’m sure.”

“I’m certain you can, princess. You’ve already told all your siblings, haven’t you? Why not spare the truth to your husband?” He pressed, sounding more jealous than he cared to let on.

“...Were you eavesdropping?” You asked softly, eyes narrowed. His jaw clenched, giving away the answer. “You’re accusing me of being suspicious while you’re eavesdropping on me? But I’m the one who’s not trustworthy?”

“What am I supposed to think when you of all people start to hide things from me. You’re the last person I expect that behavior from!”

“Behavior-?! If anything we can call it even! That’s the weakest excuse I’ve ever heard’! If there was danger, I’d say something. But this isn’t something I can just up and say, even if I wanted to. Not to you...not yet.”

Niles stared at you in dead silence for a long time. Neither of you said a word. You didn’t know what to think.

“...Fine. Be a child, for all I care.” He snapped, pushing you away. 

You stumbled back, shocked. 

“If you’re going to keep secrets like some selfish brat, don’t expect me to treat you any different from one.”

All you could do was stare as he left. If you’d known how sensitive he was about trust, maybe you should have tried to explain.

Your fingers brushed against your stomach with a shaky sigh. 

A single question lingered in your mind as you watched your husband disappear.

‘What am I supposed to do now?’

Niles was  seething. Could he have been more gentle about it? Sure. But Niles wasn’t exactly known for being a gentle person.

His jaw clenched tighter, fists closing and opening. 

‘She should know better than to hide anything from me. She shouldn’t feel the need to. And yet she’d push me to this point?’

Married people didn’t keep secrets from one another. Especially not from someone with more trust issues than anybody in the army- scratch that, the kingdom. 

He thought you understood that.

“It appears you live up to Princess Hinoka’s nickname after all.” 

A silky voice mused from behind him, and he swiveled to see Camilla standing behind him with arms crossed and a flaring temper in her eyes. 

“What are you doing?”

“Thinking.” He grumbled, turning away from her.

“I thought for sure you’d be with your wife, sorting out the problems you caused.” Her words elicited a growl, and he matched her glare with his own. “It seems you made a mess.”

“I’m not the one who made a mess. She’s keeping secrets from me. It’s her own fault for things turning out how they did. She knows why she can’t do that.” 

“Don’t you think there’d be some sort of reason why she’d keep one?” She reasoned, and he paused. “Corrin’s the most open person in the world. More often than not, she wouldn’t do anything without a very specific reason.”

“...So it seems.”

“Hm.” She hummed, “You would do well to make amends, immediately. It’s one thing to deal with her when she feels low, but when she’s crying it’s another issue entirely.”

“She’s crying?” He stood quickly when she nodded, knowing full well what Camilla meant.

He ran a little quicker than usual back to camp.

While you weren’t bawling, it was obvious to anyone how down you were. 

Your knees were drawn up to your chest with a heavy sigh, and you looked at the wall blankly. A few tears had been shed, but had long since dried.

Jakob offered to destroy Niles, breaking a bone for every tear that fell. It was the main reason you stopped crying.

Now all you had to do was figure out how to explain things. Calling you a “selfish brat” gave the impression he wasn’t a fan of kids at all.

‘I guess fatherhood isn’t high on his priorities.’ You thought with a sniffle, masking the sound behind your arm should Jakob hear it.

You almost expected him to come bursting in with a box of tissues and string of threats when you heard yelling. Jakob’s shouts were aimed at someone outside. 

When the door nearly fell open you were prepared to fight.

“Corrin!”

You did not expect to see Niles.

“...W-what are you doing here?” You asked nervously. 

He swallowed, pushed the butler trying to stab him away and shut the door behind him.

“I need to talk to you.” He replied bluntly, sighing as the door locked. “About my behavior, from before. I’m-”

“-I’m sorry.” You said simultaneously, and you stared at one another for a second before you grinned. 

“No, you go first. Sorry.”

“That’s all I wanted to say.” Niles mumbled, coming up to the bed and touching your shoulder. “You’re, um...not a brat. You’re not selfish, either. I didn’t mean it. I was just...I was worried. I didn’t know what to think when you hid something from me. It scared me.”

“I know it did, and that’s what I’m sorry for.” You apologized, wrapping your arms around his neck. “I didn’t mean to worry you at all.”

“And I know you had a reason for it, whatever it might be.” He pulled away some, offering a small smile. “I’ll listen for it, whenever you feel like telling me.”

“I’d love to tell you, hoping you’ll respond well.” You assured him, scratching your cheek. “It’s not a trivial matter, is the thing.”

“Just say it.” He prompted you with a nod. “I’ll take it fine if you tell me.”

“...Are you sure?”

“Positive.” 

There was the tiniest pause as you gathered what little courage you had left from the day, and inhaling sharply, you announced, 

“I’m with child.”

“...”

“...”

“...You’re...with- w-with child?”

Whatever unbearable shock and happiness Niles felt at that moment was  lost when he passed out on the floor. 

You made sure to tease him for it after he woke up (and, of course, made sure that he was alright with being a father. Lucky you, he definitely was).
