PAIRING. cornelia jakobs x fem!reader
SUMMARY. cornelia is picked to be sweden’s representative in eurovision and decides to take her girlfriend to italy with her.
WORD COUNT. 1,154
Y/N WAS SURE that if someone told her a year or so ago that she would be in Italy for 2022 Eurovision with her girlfriend who was a contestant, she would not have believed it at all; not because she doubted Cornelia but because she hadn’t attended the contest or even traveled much outside of Sweden. She had the occasional trip here and there but it was nothing too special.
She was thankful for the opportunity that was given to both her and her girlfriend. She had been there every step of the way for her blonde lover and she was beyond proud. For the time that she’d known Cornelia, she was always hardworking and she deserved all of the credit and love. Being chosen to be the Swedish representative for the contest was something that many people dreamed of.
It had become a reality for the Jakobs but she was still processing everything as each day passed by since things were moving so much faster than anticipated. It genuinely did feel as though yesterday was when she was selected, but that was months ago. The time proved to be something that the two of them needed to enjoy since Eurovision was not going to last forever, no matter who had wanted it to.
There was a level of stress but Y/N being there helped tremendously with the blonde’s varying degrees of emotional drainage. With each interaction Cornelia had, the more she needed some quiet time in the hotel with the woman she loved. Feeling emotionally and physically drained was not something that she experienced often but it always took its toll on her when she did, but it honestly was to be expected in some capacity.
Eurovision was a very social heavy event, which was understandable but Cornelia just needed those small moments alone with her girlfriend to recover from the stress. She did want to do well, just like everyone else she’d met over the span of a month and a half. For her, this contest was such an important and exciting experience, so she attempted to get that thought into her head more; she wasn’t going to take it for granted.
The L/N watched as Cornelia finished the process of getting ready for rehearsals. She was amazed by the backstage preparations and questioned if she should change jobs or not; it was a question that appeared often in her brain but she never once acted on it. To be completely honest, she wasn’t sure if she would do well, so she resorted to watching it instead. Her girlfriend was so invested and it was quite the sight to see.
She didn’t realize she was staring until the Jakobs brought it up with a smirk, “Angel, if you take a picture then it’ll last longer.” Each word was teasing and gave more reason for the H/C haired girl to blush at her girlfriend’s tone.
“You can’t blame me,” Y/N spoke truthfully as she went to sit down on a nearby couch. She grew tired of standing around so she’d chosen to rest her body, but still paid close attention to the Swede.
Cornelia smiled at the simple sentence as she expected the L/N to say something like that. “I’m pretty, I know.” She was messing with the other female since she was always told about how pretty she was. They would often have compliment battles and that was a normality for the couple; of course, it was started by Y/N and stuck around over time.
“Yes, you are! You’re the prettiest person I have ever seen.” Y/N complimented Cornelia without much thought or hesitation.
The Jakobs gave her a pointed look when she began speaking. “I think you are talking about yourself. Also, I have to do some voice warmups, so you can’t distract me. The last time, you were making me laugh too much. I love your humor but rehearsals are in seven minutes.”
“Got it, boss.” The H/C haired woman saluted her partner as a way to tease her before leaning back on the couch, listening to Cornelia’s vocal warmups once she had started them.
Cornelia rolled her eyes before starting to warm her voice; the process took a couple of minutes but finished quite quickly. With a minute or two left, she could feel some slight nervousness creeping through her since this was the last rehearsals before the second Semi-Final. She was hoping that everything turned out as it should and that she would end up qualifying when the show actually started.
She heard her girlfriend stand up and the sound of her footsteps neared. Y/N was very aware of the signs Cornelia’s body gave in her times of fear and anxiety, so she could tell that her lover was feeling one of those, if not both. She yearned to help as much as she could whenever this happened since the blonde would always do the same for her. It made things much easier as they were both in tune with one another’s emotions.
“Hey, you’re okay. You are going to kill it, both at rehearsals and the Semi-Final. The people love you and your song. You’ve got this! I believe in you completely.” Y/N didn’t stop talking until she was sure that Cornelia was feeling a bit better.
The L/N didn’t always know what to say if she did not understand what something felt like, but she would comfort her lover even if she didn’t understand to the fullest extent. She would try her best regardless of what was happening. She wanted for the woman she loved to know that she wasn’t alone and that she would always have support, both of those being truthful.
The Swede made eye contact with Y/N, a small smile overtaking the anxiety because of the comforting words and presence. She was beyond thankful for her girlfriend and it was always something she’d tell her often in their daily life. How could she not? She was absolutely in love with Y/N.
“Thank you, lovely. I truly don’t know what I would do without you in my life. You’re very beautiful and sweet. I could go on about my admiration for you but that’ll have to be in private, later on. For now, I’ve got to make sure everything is perfect for tonight.” The blonde leaned forward and her lips met her girlfriend’s for a short but loving kiss.
The two had to break apart for Cornelia to leave but Y/N wished her good luck for what seemed to be the hundredth time already. It would be a lie if the blonde said she did not enjoy it or find it to be cute. Whilst the Jakobs ran through her performance, Y/N L/N watched with nothing but fondness in her eyes since she adored seeing Cornelia doing what she loved; it was one thing that she could witness forever if she were allowed to.

Eurovision 2022: #03
03. SWEDEN Cornelia Jakobs - “Hold me closer” 4th place
youtube
Decade Ranking: 6/79 [Above Monika Liu, below Barbara Pravi]
Reality can sometimes be a big cruel jape. Through providence, Sweden finally send a woman to Eurovision She was selected basically through sheer luck (and thank Vishnu can you imagine how low Sweden would have ranked if they had picked Baggy Anders?) and yet quickly became their best hope for a top 3 since 2012, and rose as a contender, beloved by all.
She was left stranded in fouth place.
Seriously, how did Cornelia not win? Yeah I know why (The Circumstances) but honestly it’s moments like *this song* being a *fourth placer* that sometimes call the validity of the contest into question. I honest, hand-on-heart feel that without the invasion everyone would have flocked to the altar to Cornelia and willed her victory into reality. Like, yeah the Chanel stans calculated that -surprise- Spain would have won with a Ukraine WD, but are we really going do indulge their headcanon? Fuck no, and I say this as someone who has just ranked Chanel ahead of Cornelia Jakobs.
Anyway, we have finally arrived at the final instance of “This was some really good music” on the 2022 ranking. As with many of my faves this year, I felt like Sweden finally did something that they should have done years ago: send a GREAT indie pop song to the contest, one that validates Sweden’s reputation at the contest while simultaneously invalidating the claim that only overproduced, generic-sounding scandi-blandi pop has a shot at winning Mello.
And it’s definitely a challenge to be a better ballad than “Hold me closer” - It’s as graceful and poignant as Cornelia Jakobs herself. Lines such as “So baby bye bye, wish you the best, but most of all I wish that I could love you less”, “you say it isn’t me but when did that ever help” and “so before the sunrise, could you just holllllllllllld me tiiiiiiiiiight” just go through bone and marrow, through sinew and flesh, through heart and soul.
The Real Songs of this world don’t have “socially relevant” or "academic” topics - they turn the most banal, universal feelings and make them feel special. Cornelia delivered her message with such a rawness, with such a fatalistic truth I’m longer flesh and bone when I give Hold Me Closer a listen. I’m a marshmallow man.
Because I went there. We ALL went there. Everybody who has ever loved and has felt unloved has went there, which is everyone. When Cornelia sings from the heart, truthfully and unpretentiously, she speaks for us, and that’s #Powerful.
So why only third? Well, two things. First of all, while I love the staging (Cornelia slamming a giant hoop, then fruitlessly begging the crowd for affection 😭😭😭) , the performances are Melfest were better. The first ever live performance of Hold Me Closer was its best, and Sweden never managed to recreate the same feeling of magic in Turin, despite being one of the few countries to be fully unaffected by the Kinetic Sun.
And secondly, I usually do rank my indie weirdo’s first, so why not change it up? In Corpore Sano and SloMo are not as good as songs, sure, but Eurovision is a Live Performance Contest first, and only a Song Contest second. And thank fuck it is, because otherwise the stage show would hold no relevance of its own and we would just be ranking music videos.
Still, there’s only one truth to Hold Me Closer and that is this:
Tattoo will do better in Liverpool and this is something we should ALL feel a little bit uneasy about. 🙂
The Ranking.

although I'll leave before the sunrise (I'll be bleeding, but don't you mind, I'll be fine)
Alec Lightwood x Magnus Bane. Malec. Missing scene pre-botched Lydia x Alec wedding. Title is from "Hold Me Closer" by Cornelia Jakobs, which I wrote this whole fic to and directly inspired this fic. Crossposted on ao3.
Alec knows he shouldn't have done this.
It isn't a hard conclusion to come to; it's the only conclusion to come to. This was never a good idea, not when he stepped into Pandemonium for once last glimpse at Magnus before the wedding, not when he let Magnus pull him into a slow, deep kiss, not when he and Magnus stumbled through Magnus' apartment with laughter and gentle teasing and earnest fingers making quick work of clothing and sensitive, erogenous zones.
The hard part is not the question, it's the answer. It's about how he allowed himself to get into this position knowing it would end with him summoning the strength to slip out from under the golden covers and return to his duties and the married life he will be living the moment the blessed union rune hits his skin.
Because the thing is- the bitter, horrible, honest thing is that Alec knew going into this that it was a bad idea. He was well aware of the millions upon millions of reasons why he shouldn't have sought out Magnus for one night together. He was well aware of how much it would hurt to do this, to touch and be touched, to like and be liked, to love and- (he bites back the responding word, because he doesn't think he could survive it being thought) and leave in the morning to marry Lydia Branwell and he still pulled Magnus in anyway. He still let Magnus guide him across the apartment and into the bed, nothing but trust and affection in those golden-brown eyes.
Because Alec is selfish.
Because he knows he needs this. If he is going to sacrifice his life to save his siblings from the ramifications of their stupidity, he wanted one night of happiness. He wanted one night where he doesn't just have to imagine and dream up what uncomplicated affection feels like. He wanted to have one glowing jewel of a memory to take with him the rest of his life, no matter it would hurt after the fact.
And now his eyes burn as he slowly unentangles his impossibly heavy limbs from around Magnus' waist and slides out from under the sheets without waking the man sleeping next to him. Every time he blinks he can see Magnus' smile behind his eyelids, the way his eyes had lit up when he laughed, the way his glamour dropped when Alec kissed him with a fervour he's only ever reserved for training in the past, but he can't let that stop him from getting dressed, from pulling back on his pants and shirt and lacing up his boots. He has to leave early so he can go back to the Institute and punch that training bag to fucking pieces in time to get ready for the wedding.
Alec is careful to be quiet as he pulls his stele from his back pocket, activates his Silence rune, and carefully moves toward the door. He can't wake Magnus before he escapes. He can't bear to look Magnus in the eye as he turns his back on the only good thing he's ever had in his own right, not shared with any of his siblings, not shared with the Institute. This has to be a clean cut. He cannot bear a jagged wound that will fester until the day it blows up in his face.
Alec's hand hits the handle to the exit and-
"You can't do this, Alexander," a voice rasps from behind Alec, and Alec nearly jumps because despite all of his runes, all of his Nephilim senses, he didn't hear the padding of Magnus' feet across the hardwood floor. His body could never register Magnus as a threat, no matter the fact that he owns Alec's bow and quiver, despite the fact that he has Alec's heart tucked in beneath his ribs, forever his.
(Because, some part of Alec's mind whispers, not despite. Because Magnus has his bow. Because he has Alec's heart. Because, because, because.)
"Can't do what?" Alec asks, and his own voice comes out cracking like he never let it during puberty, when all of these forbidden feelings started rising in his chest as he claimed himself a parabatai who would never, could never, know what the pressure Alec kept his feelings clamped tight to his chest meant.
"Leave without looking me in the eye," Magnus says, and Alec still hasn't turned to look at him. He can't bear to look at Magnus undone in the morning, a set of pajama pants slung perfectly low on his hips as he spits, "You've never pegged me as a coward, Lightwood," cruel like he has never been before. But then again, Alec has never been this cruel before, either. He has never hurt Magnus like he is about to hurt him.
"I'm not a coward," Alec says, despite the fact that he is. Of course he is. He has to be. He has to run away from this moment, this beautiful, brilliant, lovely man, if he wants to save his family.
"Then look me in the fucking eye, Alexander," Magnus says, and his voice is wet. Choked. On the verge of crying.
And Alec is the one doing that to him.
A sob is rising to Alec's lips. This is the choice he didn't want to have to make. This is the moment he was so scared of facing.
How can he give up the best man he has ever met? How can he sacrifice the greatest joy he has ever felt? How can he do this to someone who has never been anything but kind and flirty and affectionate toward him?
Why did Alec have to make the stupid decision of leaving Institute last night? Why did he have to meet the right one at the wrong time?
Why does it have to be him? Why does it have to be Alec giving things up, over and over again, sacrificing over and over again for people who he loves despite the fact that they don't always seem to love him back?
Alec has to leave before his sense of self-control slips from his fingers, before he takes off towards Magnus and not towards the door. He has to get out of here while he still has the right priorities in mind, while he can still hold up his siblings' and parents' futures up above his own fleeting happiness.
He swings open the door and runs, choking back everything that wants to rip itself loose.
---
Seven hours later, Magnus enters the Institute chapel, hair pulled up, makeup on, armor bedecked for war. Alec knows him without saying a word, knows what Magnus' lips feel like against his skin, knows what it feels like to shatter someone's heart between his shaking, aching fingers.
And he knows he cannot bear to do it again.
The click echoes across tile floors, not hardwood ones, as he takes a step forward. As he steps down and away from the destiny that has been laid out for him since he was a child laying his hand on his first bow and understanding how this weapon, considered so weak by his trainers, was meant to be his. How he was meant to protect and defend, not to be the hero saving the day with a flashy sword. As he understands that for once, for fucking once, he doesn't have to play the long game. He doesn't have to play the long-range weapon.
He strides forward and his mother puts out her hand and Alec says, "No."
No, I will not trade myself for you.
No, I will not give up golden sheets and golden eyes and a golden laugh.
No, I can't do this anymore, sacrificing everything for you, because it nearly tore me apart this morning and I don't think there will be anything left of me to give if I let you keep taking.
Alec's hands land on Magnus' lapels and pull him in for a desperate kiss. Magnus still smells like sandalwood and tastes of lemongrass and lipstick and if Magnus will let Alec keep doing this for the rest of his life, then Alec will gladly take any moment that Magnus will offer him.

Shiloh: “Th...Then t-the...the knight... ca-a-me out of the... wo-” No.. that’s not right...
Shiloh: “The kn-kni... knight came out of the... wo-” - Hm? ???: What are you even talking about?
???: Haven’t you heard? Apparently it was so bad they had to give Jakob sedatives. ???: Oh, come on, you believe that? ???: Yes! Maddie told me there was blood everywhere.
Aide 2: I haven’t heard anything of it. Aide 1: That’s because you haven’t asked the right people. Maddie never lies, she knows all the things going on behind the scenes.
Aide 1: But honestly, I think Gunter kinda had it coming. Aide 2: *Gasp* Cornelia! What a cruel thing to say! Aide 1: He was a rude, old man! No wonder he had enemies lurking about...
Aide 1: ... If anything, I’m surprised it didn’t happen earlier. Shiloh: ...
-----
Alexander: What do we do now, do we still proceed? Zara: Is that even a question..!? - Of course we don’t!
Alexander: I’m just saying- Zara: No. Alexander: Zara- Zara: No. She just lost someone very dear to her, she cannot handle anything more right now.
Alexander: So what do you think will happen if this leaks to the media? Zara: ... Alexander: Exactly. It would do her less harm to her it straight from you. Zara: I don’t care, I am not doing that to her. Not now.
Alexander: We had an agreement. Zara: From before we knew what happened to Gunter. Alexander: She deserves to know. Zara: Then you do it.
Alexander: Ugh, I am just trying to protect you! Zara: I get that. But I’m tired, I’m feeling sick, and I can feel a flare just around the corner, neither Alice nor I can take it right now! Alexander: I’m just saying-
Shiloh: Are you two fighting?
Alexander: Oh no, not at all, your mother and I was simply disagreeing. Zara: Yes, honey, we’re not angry with each other.
Shiloh: If you’re not angry, you should use your inside voices. Alexander: You’re right, sorry if we scared you. Shiloh: No worries, you didn’t. - Did something happen to Gunter?
Zara: Erm- why do you ask, sweetie? Shiloh: I heard some staff talking about him and they were not very nice. - Dad, stop that.
Shiloh: Is he dead? Zara: ... Alexander: ...
-----
Zara: So imagine my shock when I find out that two of our staff have been talking about Gunter’s death, in front of Shiloh! Alice: Wow... Zara: This is more than “wow”!
Alice: What do you want me to do? Zara: I don’t know! I just don’t think it’s fair that this is how Shiloh found out!
Zara: I had a meeting with a child psychologist tomorrow that was going to help me... Alice: I’m sorry. Zara: I’m... I’m just sad that this is how he found out. He really liked Gunter and for him to...
Zara: ... *sigh* One of them said he “deserved” it. Alice: Oh. Zara: Yeah... To think people can be so cruel... .
Zara: ... Alice: ...
Zara: I’m sorry, Alice. You have enough on your plate right now. Alice: It’s fine. Zara: No, it’s not. I will talk to the staff myself. Alice: No need, I’ll do it.
Zara: You really don’t have to... Alice: No, it’s okay.
Alice: ... It’s my duty.

Eurovision Semifinal 2
Hmm basket of kittens. Anyway, tonight I'm rooting for Serbia, Sweden, Czech Republic.
The hosts are dressed as the flag of Germany.
Finland, The Rasmus, "Jezebel" – Very restrained start. Oh wait. Never mind, that's just how he sings.
Israel, Michael Ben David, "I.M" – Plenty of attitude. The runway effect is clear. Lighting seems a bit dark? Fun dance break. A little exhausting.
Serbia, Konstrakta, "In Corpore Sano" – Onscreen lyrics look oddly like closed captioning, but I think it works for this song because it’s sort of jarring and makes you question what is going on. Loved hearing the entire audience clap along. The beat and her voice are relentless and mesmerizing.
Azerbaijan, Nadir Rustamli, "Fade to Black" – Honestly, I'm still hearing “in corpore sano, in corpore sano” echoing in my mind. It's very competent but after Israel and Serbia it seems to lack personality.
Georgia, Circus Mircus, "Lock Me In" – They're a band, but weird. I do like that one shifty eye that keeps showing up, as well as turning the stage into a giant creepy face. With all the strangeness and odd projections swirling around the stage, the band themselves stayed relatively static. It makes the performance feel like controlled (not chaotic) madness.
Malta, Emma Muscat, "I Am What I Am" – Unexpectedly wobbly on the vocals. I wonder if all the climbing up and down and running around was an issue? It seemed a bit too choreographed and her notes were consistently going a bit flat.
San Marino, Achille Lauro, "Stripper" – The sparkly bodysuit suits him. The mechanical bull is an interesting stage prop but ultimately less interesting than watching him walk around.
Mika somehow sounds very natural trying to fill time while still calling a lot of attention to exactly what he is doing.
Australia, Sheldon Riley, "Not The Same" – The lighting is full of drama. He has a very good voice and I enjoyed the staging but when he starts repeating "not the same" I kind of tune out.
Cyprus, Andromache, "Ela" – A performance that makes good use of the water feature. Again vocally wobbly and only partly on purpose I think. The last note was not bad sounding, yet quite off.
Ireland, Brooke, "That's Rich" – Did the intro graphic get lost? Actually found her postcard moderately interesting through sheer personality. Improved in every aspect compared to the national final. The song has been growing on me.
North Macedonia, Andrea, "Circles" – I was worried that the low notes would be an issue, but she's got the singing down and is very passionate. This presentation uses the side panels, which so far have not looked particularly well-integrated into the visuals when they have been noticeable. I wonder what the intent of having those was in the stage design. I’m not that into the song, but good performance.
Estonia, Stefan, "Hope" – This reminds me of Victor Crone, though I would give Stefan the edge in song, singing, and styling.
Wonder what’s going on that made the audience cheer while Mika did this "sound of beauty" interlude?
Romania, WRS, "Llámame" – Dancing is much more confident than it was at the national final. Still no attempt at telling the story implied in the song.
Poland, Ochman, "River" – The drippy TV graphics are distracting, and the earthquake and lightning graphics even more so. I read it as awkward attempt to dress up a song that is more voice than substance.
Montenegro, Vladana, "Breathe" – What was the random audience shot? Was it meant to be focused on her the whole time? Judging from the bit at the end, I think I might have enjoyed this song more when I didn't understand the lyrics.
Belgium, Jérémie Makiese, "Miss You" – Oddly breathless in places. He sounds good, but often seems to be singing to himself more than singing to a live or TV audience.
Sweden, Cornelia Jakobs, "Hold Me Closer" – Her green circle looks very nice today. Is the audience singing along or am I imagining it? Holy crap that light effect going into the last chorus. Lovely silhouette shot at the end. That was really good. Just a few staging changes from Melodifestivalen, which worked really well. Clear thought and intent in the camera work; they even managed to create an illusion of her interacting with the audience despite the actual distance that is obvious in subsequent shots.
Czech Republic, We Are Domi, "Lights Off" – Lights, lights everywhere. That was a striking glory note camera shot with the arena behind her. That glimpse of her expression afterward was like "Hell yeah!" Good way to close out.
Michael Ben David in his monochrome outfit fits in well standing with the hosts.
Was wondering who would bring the Ukrainian flags today; that it was Georgia is not a huge surprise.
Why are they singing "People Have the Power"?
Hey, is the "sun" moving very slowly during "Grande Amore"? It is. Is that one ring supposed to be in that position? Unclear.
The contrast between "I'm going to go eat pasta carbonara" Chanel and "booty hypnotic" Chanel is startling.
The countries I was rooting for made the final, though I would have liked for Georgia and Ireland to go through as well.
Even so, my entire top ten (in fact my top 11) are in the final. This is such an odd feeling; I have been watching Eurovision since 2007 and this has never happened.
