didnt want to attach this to my response to the anon bc it revolves around entirely different matters but some of u may think the fobposting is a recent thing but like. i was out here fighting in the mania trenches in 2018. i was there fighting in the folie trenches in 2009. i got into several physical arguments ABOUT folie in real life throughout my lifetime. i was arguing on forums in like 2008 i know my foblore. i know TOO much foblore in fact.

I want to talk about the stripes I make.

According to a book, there are 270 names for striped patterns in Japanese. Thousand stripes (sen-suji), ten-thousand stripes (man-suji), with kids stripes (komochi-jiima), twin stripes (futago-suji), fall stripes (taki-jima), bonito stripes (katsuo-jima), benkei stripes (benkei-jima), wickerwork stripes (ajiro-jima), etc., etc., etc.

Among these, I basically make random stripes, called “yatara-jima”.

Yatara-jima have no regularity in the arrangement of the stripes, and were originally woven to finish off the threads left over from weaving, and originated mainly for women's kimono.

Yes, weaving always produces surplus threads, but that does not mean that a regular number of threads can be taken.

If that were the case, it would be more fashionable to arrange them randomly... nowadays, but I think it's amazing that the people who first made them ( I suspect that they were everywhere in private kimonos) and put them on the market are so amazing.

I think there were people who thought it was interesting and stylish... but I wonder through what channels it spread. I wonder if it was a marketing strategy at the time to have ukiyo-e paintings of beautiful women drawn, or if the models happened to be wearing them. It’s similar to influencer marketing or buzzing on SNSs!? I can imagine all sorts of things.

Taking these cloths as an example, I used 19 different threads in total: three red, three yellow, five green, three grey, three purple, one off-white and one non-dyed white.

In my case, I of course use leftover thread, but basically, as in normal weaving, I have a design first and then prepare the thread. To be more precise, I have the design, dye the necessary colours, take some yarns out of the chest, lay them out, look at the colours and readjust the design. I use two or three threads of the same colour to create shading or variation in the slightly thicker stripes.

But sometimes I feel that I have made a mistake, because when I add the weft yarn, there is not much difference, and in some cases it is a newly dyed yarn, and I feel like, "Wow, give me back my time!" Sometimes I feel like, “Wow, I want my time back!” I'm not experienced enough …

It is actually very difficult to distinguish between the two types of red cloth.

It's not so much about making stripes, but more about the colour composition of the kimono or the shape of the cloth, so it may be a slightly different way of making it.

I used the same warp (silk) as this cloth and hand-spun ramie yarn as the weft, and of the 19 colours... 15 are included.

Red: Indian Madder (strong&pale), Sappanwood

Yellow: Amur Corktree (strong&pale), Gardenia

Green: Ōbaku x odour wood (two light varieties), Green leaf extract powder, Japanese Pagoda Tree x Indigo (strong&pale)

Grey: Cochineal (strong&pale), Sawtooth Oak

Purple: Cochineal, Lithospermum Erythrorhizon (strong&pale)

Off-white: Walnut

•Bubbles LOVES Weezer. He’s so annoying about it too, Buddy Holly has to be on every playlist. His favorite song is Undone.

•Croz tells him he looks like a virgin when it’s only Weezer showing up on his Airbuds.

•The Blue Album is banned during any of Croz’s pregnancies.

•Bubbles and Croz both share a deep rooted love for Fall Out Boy, especially early day fob. Bubbles would actually die for Infinity on High or From Under the Corktree.

•Everett’s favorite song is Monster by Kanye West with Roman Holiday by Nicki Minaj coming in at a close second. (Roman Holiday is John’s favorite Nicki song too)

•Benny likes a lot of 90s grunge/butt rock. He dabbles in a lot of 2015-2019 rap. Losing My Religion by REM is definitely his favorite song. His top three favorite bands are Green Day, Limp Bizkit, and Nirvana. (Benny's playlist)

•Gale LOVES Mitski, Fiona Apple, and Kate Bush. No one likes Mitski the way Gale likes Mitski. Similar to @ihearteugeneroe , Gale’s life was ruined the day Running Up That Hill had a resurgence on TikTok.

•Dougie is in a similar music boat to Everett and John. They’re the Nicki Minaj/Ice Spice/Pinkpanthress girls. He would listen to Kanye West, let’s be real. He listens to SOME country music like Luke Bryant, Shania Twain, and a lot of fiddle playing country. He did grow up on a ranch after all..

•Brady is a Swiftie through and through. But Daddy I Love Him is his favorite song, although before ttpd came out it was either This Love or Getaway Car. He fought tooth and nail to get tickets to both night one AND two for Denver. He made him and Ham outfits for the show. Night one, they both dress up as Speak Now. (Ham is purely being dragged along for this.) night two, they did Midnight.

•Ham has an interesting music taste to say the least…he likes Suicide Boys, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi, Bones. I could go on for Ham, eventually I will make him a playlist!

•Rosie listens to a lot of big band/jazz music. He just really likes the saxophone. If you get into Rosie’s car it’s all going to be organized big band or jazz playing. Benny starts doing karaoke to it, he picks lyrics from a song that sound similar, they don’t and sings.

•Ken listens to a lot of everything, his favorites are Mac Miller, Deftones, and One Direction. Currently one of Ken’s favorite songs though has to be One Of Your Girls by Troye Sivan.

•Curt likes loves Ghost and no one likes Ghost the way Curt likes Ghost. Especially as he gets older he’s more and more into Ghost. His favorite song by them is Rats.

•other than, Ghost Curt also listens to a lot of Mac Miller, Blackbear, Deftones, and whatever John’s hyper fixated on at the moment.

Im sorry, I don't want to add to your emotional exhaustion. Thats not fair of me to unload onto you. One of my fav. songs off of Corktree is I'm like a lawyer. I think the lyrics hit me in the chest in a nostalgic kinda way that I understand and look to more and more these days. What's your favorite song from Corktree?

its okay i kind of get it. i dont want to get into it right now but i just feel really isolated in the fob fandom lately. it feels like i dont exist even to people im actually friends with. right now it feels a far cry from 5 different people and like 3 pings in a discord server informing me the 8ball song was youre crashing but youre no wave. anyway, not the point.

im like a lawyer? do you mean our lawyer? both are good songs. its hard for me to pick a favourite off cork tree, its one of my top 3 albums. best lyrics imo are probably on xo but i also really relate to summer song. i also really love do your part to save the scene and stop going to shows.

She takes note of what he’s listening to as she grabs her water bottle from beside her bunk and retreats.  A few hours later, as they’re restocking the ambulance, she presses play on the Fall Out Boy album From Under the Corktree and sets her phone down so they have music to work to, but also to extend a metaphorical olive branch to TK. She had been trying so hard not to get close to TK; getting close to people always leads to loss and pain, and she’d sworn off it for good. But TK persisted; he organised to have the ambulance dedicated to Tim and started inviting her to group hang outs, and the more she finds out about him, the more they have in common.
