Happy Storyteller Saturday! Have any of your characters ever been betrayed by someone they thought they could trust? What did this person do, and how did your character react?
Oh man oh man this is a good one.
So Corin and Maeva have a really complicated relationship, in that they like each other a lot, but Maeva thinks Corin is really scary. Not because he’s malicious or harmful, but because he’s emotionally unstable and she refuses to get close to someone who might cause her grief down the line.
But he gets a lot better. A lot a lot better. He gets better enough and promises her he’s better enough that she starts to let herself be soft about him.
As soon as she does though, he backslides. Even though it isn’t his fault that he did (mental illness is a killer as we all know) Maeva views his relapse as an enormous betrayal of her trust. Her answer to betrayal, as is her answer to most things, is to ignore and repress. She cuts him off and does her best to pretend she was never obsessed with him in the first place.
Then Corin feels like she’s betrayed HIS trust by abandoning him when he needs her. So he decides he too is done with this...whatever it was.
Yeah that doesn’t work.
Thank you so much! Look out for an ask from me!

10 Questions Tag
Thank you for tagging me, @starlitesymphony! Also thank you for recommending me??? Up there with all those greats??? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Wow. You’re the best.
1. Which of your MC’s would you take on your next vacation?
My sweet bisexual biracial punk baby Milton Amadeus Deveraux. He’s fun to party with, but he’s low-key enough that there’s no stress.
2. If you got whisked off into your story world, would you stay there?
Not what with the turmoil that’s going on. Everyone’s getting really stressed and desperate, anti-humanism is rampant, and aetherions are whacko enough as it is, it’s not safe. Now, if I’d gotten dropped there a few years earlier, totally. There’s a lot of really cool aetherion coffee shops man.
3. Which of your MC’s do you feel the most connection to?
Levi. Sorry I’ll always be boring here. I will add that I have been feeling very connected to Greyson this past year though. He’s evolved into someone I just like a lot better. He’s more than just my bitterness now.
4. Are any of your OC’s based on people you know or have met?
None in AetherNovel whatsoever. Actually, that’s not true. Levi’s looks are very loosely based of this stinking adorable little boy I met once. Levi is sort of what I imagined him looking like as a young adult. But blue eyed and angrier.
And I don’t know if this counts, but most of the names for one of my backlogged WIPs are names I stole from real people I’ve met at work. I’ see some shit in regards to names, guys.
5. Have you ever abandoned a large WIP? If so, why?
You know, I don’t think so. All of my “abandoned” works got abandoned pretty early on. We’re talking less than a hundred pages in. I have a very fickle attention span.
6. Have you published anything? (Just yes or no is fine!) Are you hoping to go traditional, indie, online, or not at all?
Yes! I had two stories published in my college’s literary magazine. For my novels, I think I definitely want to go traditional, mid to large press.
7. Do you have any goals for your work over the next year?
Finish the second draft of AetherNovel and hopefully not have to do a third lol.
8. Post a line you think sums up your work!
As a whole? I write about...emo male prodigies and the emotionally unavailable females in their lives...
(*counts on fingers* Levi and Sterling, Corin and Maeva, Oleander and Mordgud, Kellan and Katie The Horse...no yeah that’ s literally all I write about. Why?)
9. Have you ever had someone you would consider a mentor?
I do! A few years ago the Richard Hugo House hooked me up with a middle grade fantasy author named Jennifer Anne Kogler (totally name dropping so you can check out her book The Death Catchers, it’s great). She mentored me all through high school, and edited the first draft of AetherNovel as I wrote it! She has a baby now and I have a University, so we don’t see each other as often, but we still keep in touch. I’m probably going to dedicate my first book to her, tbh.
10. What are you currently reading? Anything interesting?
Ugh, no. My midterm is coming up this week so I’m just slogging back through William Wordsworth right now. It’s like taking a swim through the psyche of my novel’s antagonist, which made it cool the first time, but now it’s just...slogging. My antagonist is one self important fluffed up melodramatic dude. If he and Levi had a drama queen contest, IDK who would win. That’s probably going to be the whole third book, tbh.
Tagging the last 3 people in my feed...drumroll... @stirringink, @miawritingbooks, @theknightsinshiningspandex (which is the best url not gonna lie). These will all be dumb OC questions because I’m curious and out of juice. Feel free to ignore.
1. Your OCs go on a road trip, or whatever sort of trip they can. Who insists on stopping at EVERY roadside attraction?
2. If your OC was a cookie, what sort of cookie would they be?
3. How does your oldest OC take their coffee?
4. Do your OCs know each other’s middle names? What do they think about them?
5. Which OCs make their bed?
6. What are your thoughts on writing OCs going to the toilet?
7. What grosses your youngest OC out the most?
8. Which of your OCs were grumpy babies?
9. What is your OCs preferred type of underwear?
10. What’s one word your OC hates to hear?
