Still thinking about the OOO 10th movie after watching it on friday night and I think I've narrowed down my biggest critique with it (spoilers ahead obviously for those who havent seen it):
I think what kills me the most about the decision to kill Eiji off is that it's literally defying the very logic that they set up in the main series for how possession and healing a dying body with it work.
I like to read TVTropes just for fun sometimes when I'm bored and they make this point on Eiji's page in regards to how things go down in the movie:
Tumblr media
But here's the thing: It literally didnt have to be that way. We see even Ankh's spirit, something he shouldn't be able to have but is granted due to how he helps Eiji out in the end of the series, following Eiji around while he travels to look for a way to bring him back. Eiji might not know hes there, but he is either way. Eiji's spirit is Clearly still hanging on enough that he's able to say goodbye to everyone in the end, and he is the one who pushes Ankh out of his body. That alone tells me he's there enough that he could have possibly been saved, had the writers wanted to go that way. (Also after all that time you cannot tell me it'd be that fuckin easy for Eiji to push Ankh out like that, I don't believe that for a second.)
It also would have been so much more Thematically fitting and a good way to bring things full circle if they had ended it on the note of "Ankh will possess Eiji until he's able to heal the same way he did for Shingo" because their relationship has Always worked on some level of give and take. Eiji spent a fuckin decade trying so hard to bring Ankh back, and after all that time I'd like to think (especially with how he reacts to Goda taking Eiji's body) that Ankh would care enough to try and help him to heal. It would be such a full circle and much more hopeful ending to everything, which was The Whole Point of the end of the original series too.
It just rubs me the wrong way to kill Eiji off in this way after how hard he fought to actually have something to Want to live for again. His promise was Always "a future that we can both live in together," not "one where I go so Ankh can stay." It makes no sense to kill him off like this when you could have very well given them their Actual hopeful decent ending, and it just rings hollow in the end.
Personally I chose to view this as some bad end timeline as a result of time fuckery from other series stuff but thats just me. It just sucks cause there Is concepts from the movie I like (Tajador Eternity fucks so hard and it gave Ankh his own body back too which is nice, and the Concept of Goda and Eiji being possessed by someone else Is actually a fun one for Ankh to deal with too) but that ending just sours the whole thing in the end.

DP X DC : RED HOOD, REVENANT AVENGER OF GOTHAM
Danny's the new king of the ghost zone, and with great power comes great responsibility, so that means paperwork. as he's going through the intake forms for several new ghosts, he comes across a few interesting discrepancies, in the files of one Jason Peter Todd. It would appear that the guy came back to life, but the bureaucratic error was never rectified, so he's running around not fully alive, and not quite dead, either. He isn't a halfa, but he is very liminal and made liminal on corrupted ectoplasm at that. Basically, he's a revenant with an obsession, and the corruption in the ectoplasm means that he has nothing to modulate this obsession.
So, Danny does the logical thing and asks around the ghost zone's latest Gothamite guest to see who exactly, this newest revenant is. What he finds is certainly interesting, and he spends a day going through the records of Jason Todd's life, death, and subsequent resurrection, as well as lists of those the Red Hood has avenged or helped.
And Ancients are the lists long. There are Gothamites who were killed and avenged by the Red Hood, Gothamites who worked for him and are singing his praises, Gothamites who never met him but saw the good he was doing.
So, Danny's decision is as follows: he will head to the mortal world and fix whatever is wrong with this guy's core, and, as compensation for the accidental revival, subsequent trauma, and as thanks for helping so many of his subjects, the Red Hood will receive protection from all things undead, dead, or thereabouts, one of the rare medals of honor that the ghost zone bestows upon very helpful citizens, and Danny will make Crime Alley and the Bowery his official haunt.
It's simple enough. One Tuesday night, he sneaks into the current safehouse, leaves the medal and an official looking letter explaining it, fixes the Lazarus Pit Rage, and delineates the Red Hood's new haunt based on the directions from Gotham, who is more than happy to help after seeing her favorite child recognized for his good deeds.
Jason wakes up that Wednesday morning acutely aware of three muggings happening in Crime Alley, with the Pit Rage nothing more than a bad memory, and a medal on his kitchen table recognizing him for services to the Crown of the Dead, including avenging wronged souls.
He decides to just take the weird omniscient sense of stuff going wrong in the Alley at face value because he doesn't know what the fuck is happening.
Later, when Batman tries to enter the Alley, he finds himself unable to step past the border.
Paranoia ensues.

Okay ngl. Ankh’s true villain era is actually kinda sick. Also look at these two cunty bitches,
Tumblr media
Kings of “surprise bitch. I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me”. Hip OUT, head COCKED, Greeed DOUBLED UP. Kazari is right to be surprised and kinda afraid.
Also I love Uva, gotta appreciate his integrity and can-do attitude. One core medal? No problem. He’s just gonna rise and grind till he gets enough cell medals to resurrect again.

Umm what. How has it been 10 years since I got into SnK, started sharing a ton of thoughts about it and met @momtaku?? The fact that I’ve since fallen out of SnK and cycled through many other fandoms and interests lends some credence to this number. Still: ten years?? Sounds fake, but okay.
In honour of this dubious anniversary, I figured it might be fun to look back on the posts I've made and select my top 5 favourites (in no particular order). I instantly broke my own rules and went for groups of posts instead, but here we are:
I do still like my early post on Eren's characterisation, where I talked about how the narrative literally didn’t let Eren win on any terms on which he was prepared to fight. It got a spiritual sequel in this post, which talks about Eren in the later stages. I never finished the manga, so I don't actually know how accurate that reading was in the end... but it felt true at the time of writing:
Eren just gives the impression of a person who’s gazed into the abyss for too long, and the abyss looked back. The one thing he seems to have learned in this narrative is that sometimes Bad choices are your only choices, and even if that makes you a Bad person you still keep moving forward. At the core of him is still the same steely resolve that has kept him going the entire time, but he’s stopped reaching for moral high grounds or possibly even believing that they exist, which is the worrying part. He’s now okay crawling in the dirt with villains, if that gives him his victory. And this, this is something that no one wanted Eren to become.
Mikasa-centric posts galore. She was my favourite character for a long time, so I think that's why I have a soft spot for those posts.
I think generally posts speculating on the themes of the story: the circular nature of violence, moving forward and fighting on, redemption, the human condition, the inherent moral ambiguity...
What this story seems to be discussing—broadly speaking, right—is the human condition in general. The story talks about the kind of hell people can create for themselves and for each other, the kinds of things people are capable of, the best and the worst of them, and the paths good people might take when faced with a plethora of choices each of which is bad in a different way.
I'm torn between this piece on Levi and Dulce et decorum est, the post about Floch of all people that does also touch on overall story themes (and we've established I love talking about those).
He asks, what do these medals do for anyone? Whom does this memorial ceremony serve? They don’t help the hundreds of people that died in terrible pain, they don’t resurrect the fallen–all this pomp and circumstance achieves is legitimizing this bloody, horrendous battle as glorious.
Some visual posts, like the Hamilton mashup! And this one on the progression of Sasha, Connie and Jean. And this one about Levi and Mikasa's Ackerman awakening.
An honourable mention to the Christmas singalong, which continues to delight me.

Kamen Rider Villains Badan Empire 03
Badan City, Greeed Living Quarters
Plot D 01
“This blows,” Lost Ankh said tossing a ball against a wall and catching it.
The Greeed had been settled in for some time, but they were all cooped up living together, awaiting orders. They were allowed their full Core Medals, but not allowed to create any Yummies of desire. And worst of all they were kept in check by the despicable Shocker Greeed. A silent but imposing figure whose only desire was to maintain Badan’s commands.
Kazari didn’t think any of this was fair. The Shocker Greeed was the only one who got to chase his desires that made him whole. Not to mention the fact he hated most of the people here, except for Lost Ankh, he wasn’t annoying like the others. The younger Greeed threw his toy ball as it bounced and hit Uva’s head.
“If you’re bored.. Take a walk...enjoy the quiet ,” Uva said.
Kazari groaned, “You’re as dull as ever Uva. We are Greeed! Our desires are unmatched and we deserve to seek them out to our own ends.”
He kicked over a table in frustration.
Uva sat down and kicked back on a chair, “Maybe,” he said, “But I don’t care anymore, after all that business with OOOs and Maki, I’m just glad to be alive.”
“I’m just glad to be with Mezool!” Gamel shouted having no inside voice.
Mezool touched his chin motherly, “That’s a sweet Gamel. Kazari, it seems like you and Child Ankh are the most..disturbed.”
“I’m not a child!” Lost Ankh said accidentally with a voice crack.
Kazari stood in the center of the group, “Listen all of you!” he said, “Badan resurrected us, but they restrain us, keep us from living out as our true selves. All while that Shocker Greeed and Maki do as they please!”
The other Greeed fell silent and stared.
“Say something!” he asked.
He was hearing a low deep echoing sound behind him, “Eeeeeeeeeeeee”
Kazari turned around to unexpectedly find the Shocker Greeed standing behind him.
“Its you” Kazari said, “The fake Greeed...”
With a swift swipe with its claws, the Shocker Greed smacked Kazari crashing to the ground. Kazari wiped his face and growled. He readied a feline pounce for this fowl creature when he was met with a heavy kick to his stomach. The Shocker Greeed hit hard. And then it turned around and walked away. Kazari hated that the most, it didn’t even stay and fight properly, only beat them in submission. He hung low to the ground when Uva leaned down.
“Is your ambition worth being beaten for?” he asked.
Kazari stood up and stared out the large window they had, before opening up it up and hopping outside.
“Maybe,” he said.
He supposed he would take a walk, but not to be boring. For research. That was a word Maki used to use a lot.

OOO 10th spoilers ahead
I really liked OOO 10th! I don't have quite the emotional attachment to OOO as others do, but I really loved it. I think it was a curious decision to kill Eiji off, and I hated that we really didn't get to see EIJI during the movie, considering this is supposed to be kind of like a grand sendoff for OOO. There was a similar situation in another Rider's special, but it made sense due to the nature of that Rider series. It was really interesting that the premise basically made this the Faiz Last Paradise of OOO.
Birth X was really cool and very colorful, same with Tajador Eternity. Would be a shame if we never see those suits again especially with how expensive they had to be. The bad guys went down a bit too easily, but this was never about the fighting, and you can only fit so much in an hour.
Toei just leaves you wanting more, in a good way.
