Fire Emblem Awakening Mistletoe Headcanons
Here I am, back once again, sliiiiightly late as per potentially usual. The holidays are a busy time for anyone, after all, and I am not exception! Still, I hope you enjoy what I have in store. This year’s set for Awakening follows Henry/Olivia, Tiki/Say’ri, Lissa/Ricken, Gaius/Maribelle, Cordelia/Sumia, Vaike/Chrom, Inigo/Gerome, and Tharja/F Robin.
Hopefully you like what you read, and you can find last year’s here!
Henry/Olivia:
I feel like Henry absolutely employs the help of the crows to get Olivia under the mistletoe. The two of them are probably just having a nice winter’s dinner together when one of the crows flies over to land on Henry’s head. Olivia can’t help but smile and coo at it, laughing at how much the crows love Henry and how close they are to him. It’s only once Henry points out that there’s something in the crow’s mouth that Olivia clues into what’s actually happening. She blushes and asks Henry if he’s sure, to which he responds that he is, and that he wanted to do this in privacy for the sake of her shyness. Olivia is touched, and agrees to a nice kiss between the two of them. Henry is very gentle and careful with her, and he cannot help but appreciate the way she seems to melt into his embrace.
Tiki/Say’ri:
I feel like Tiki is oblivious to some of this mistletoe romantic stuff because she was just like, asleep for most of its establishment? So it’s Say’ri who has to bring it up to her once they accidentally get caught under the mistletoe. She’s quite flustered about the whole thing, insisting to the voice of Naga that she needn’t do anything she isn’t comfortable with, but of course Tiki believes that they shouldn’t shirk tradition. She closes her eyes and puckers up ever so slightly, so Say’ri cannot help but complete the link between them, surprised at how her heart seems to flutter when she meets with Tiki. Heat spreads through her chest, and she can’t help but snake an arm across Tiki’s waist and pull her in closer — something the manakete doesn’t seem to mind.
Lissa/Ricken:
Ricken’s probably the one that does the planning, but I can’t say that I feel as if he would do much with extravagance. He’d probably just hide the mistletoe in his robes until he had a private moment with Lissa, and then, when the two of them are alone, he starts talking about how pretty she is with the fallen snow in her hair, and asks her if she would do him in the honour of sharing a mistletoe kiss. Lissa laughs, insisting that she didn’t know that Ricken was such a sap. Still, she is more than willing to oblige the kiss, happy that her boyfriend is so romantic. The kiss is probably one of those sweet, innocent ones so commonly affiliated with puppy love, and maybe not the most skilful, but it’s happy and it’s sweet, and absolutely a smooth move that Ricken will brag about for years after.
Maribelle/Gaius:
I feel like when these two get their moment, it’s through the making of a candy-mistletoe. Maribelle has it made specially to ensure that she gets one — although she’d never admit it, because she’s a lady. But she got them made, and presents them to Gaius as apart of a dessert plate. He notices them right off the bat, a smirk creeping across his face as he asks his precious Twinkles if she planned this. She insists that she doesn’t know what he is talking about, but he is more than willing to tease her about wanting some sugar herself. Maribelle rolls her eyes, but cannot help but smile as Gaius pulls her in for a passionate, romantic kiss that lasts more than just a few minutes.
Cordelia/Sumia:
Sumia and Cordelia probably get caught under the mistletoe during an attempted play that Cordelia makes for Chrom. She hangs up mistletoe around a few different places in camp, hoping that maybe, just maybe, she’ll be in the right place at the right time to get it done. Sumia, on the other hand, is just curious about what her friend is up to. Which, of course, lands her right under the mistletoe. Naturally she and Cordelia blush, with the red headed pegasus knight insisting that she needn’t do anything. Sumia decides to kiss her cheek instead, but finds even that embarrassing, promptly apologizing and running off… Cordelia can’t help but wonder what all that was about, knowing in the back of her mind that something about Sumia’s lips on her cheeks felt… different. Did she still want that one with Chrom on the lips? … Somehow, it was hard to know anymore.
Vaike/Chrom:
Vaike probably got Chrom into a romantic position for mistletoe kisses via a challenge of some kind. I could honestly seem him doing it as a plain old sparring match, but maybe he could do a test of wits instead. He’d have a series of questions asked, ones that would all be catered towards his own knowledge, and of course Chrom is rolling his eyes the whole time. Eventually, they get to the million-dollar question, the one that will make the person who answers it the automatic winner. The question? “What is the tradition associated with mistletoe?”
Chrom answers it quickly and wins, and is then told by Vaike that he gets his prize… and then of course, he has to pucker up. Chrom rolls his eyes again, shaking his head.
“I should’ve known with you, Vaike,” he almost laughs as he leans in.
Gerome/Inigo:
Gerome is too cool for mistletoe kisses. Inigo is too embarrassed. What do you get when this happens? Spontaneity. Inigo has stopped by to chat with Gerome for a minute as he’s tending to Minerva, when suddenly they notice that she’s got something in her mouth. When Gerome asks to see what she has, the wyvern proudly sits up and shows them that she’s got some mistletoe, and she’s dangling it above their heads. Inigo is shocked, and Gerome can barely form words, but their desire to refuse the call of tradition makes Minerva grumpy, so they figure they’d better go through with it just to keep her happy. The kiss is awkward and stiff — just what you’d expect from these dweebs — but not altogether bad. Although they agree to not talk about it again for awhile after… but they will. It sparks some feelings, after all.
F Robin/Tharja:
Tharja will act like she does not care about being caught under the mistletoe with Robin. She cares immensely. Robin knows this, so she pretends to call her for a second pair of eyes on her battle pans for the next meeting. Then, as Tharja is looking them over, she smiles and points at the mistletoe. A dark, almost creepy smirk crosses the mage’s face, but Robin knows her girl well enough to know that this is her being happy, so she can do nothing more than lean and a plant a big, loving kiss on her. Tharja lets out a surprisingly cute giggle as she reciprocates, tangling her fingers in Robin’s hair and jokingly tugging on one of her pigtails.

Just Leave a Comment Fest 2022
This is the second half of my Just Leave a Comment Fest results, with the first one being the Danganronpa one that you can find here. I’ve seen a lot of people posting their totals with link recommendations based on what they read, so I’ve decided to do that too, but divide it up based on my two main fandoms!
Overall, though, I got a grand total of 25. I know a lot of people have been doing numbers like this or higher in a day, but I’ve been a bit more sociable this week, so I’ve made my goal for next year to increase that number a lot more! Even if I didn’t average as many as others, though, I’ve gotten about 14 replies so far from excited authors, and that warms my heart.
But, without further ado, here are all of my Fire Emblem-themed recommendations based on “Just Leave a Comment Fest 2022” (and please be warned of spoilers!):
• “Petals in Open Palms” by lesbianexalt - A FE Awakening based Sumia/Cordelia one-shot, centred around Cordelia trying to come to terms with the appearance of Cynthia, and how her love will never be requited… The build-up in this one is immaculate, and does a great job of making you feel for the positions that both Cynthia and Cordelia are in. The exploration of complex emotions is done so well that I think this story could appeal to fans regardless of what their shipping preferences are. Just a really lovely fic, honestly.
• “Where the Heart Is” by QuoteMyFoot - A FE Echoes AU multi-chapter story, where instead of Celica being discovered, Mycen is able to kill Slayde and his men and keep her under their protection. Thus, she grows up with the other Ram Village kids, knowing her destiny in the back of her mind, but unable to truly say anything. The author has expressed that updates may be slow going and it may be unpolished just because they are in and out of burnout for it, but the agency it grants Celica is absolutely spectacular, and the way the character relationships are written lends so well to the narrative.
• “Reading” by SwiftWhiskers - A FE Echoes one-shot centred around the young Ram Village kids. Alm is having some trouble learning to read (implied dyslexia), so his friends devise a plan to try and help him learn. This fic is cute and fluffy, and perfect for someone who just wants to read about a little moment of happiness. Personally, I know I’ll never get enough of the Ram Village kids loving each other, so I thought this one was just perfect.
• “Close Scrutiny” by Mystery_Of_The_Emblem - A FE Fates one-shot set in Revelation about Saizo trying to have fun at the first Nohr-Hoshido party. He starts it off spying, but when Kaze catches him and points out how badly it would reflect on Ryoma if he were to be caught, Saizo has to change up his tactics on how he will go about collecting information. The author’s creative way of approaching Saizo’s relationship struggles were so fun, and the humour added from the brotherly relationships even more so. This one would please any Saizo fan with ease, even managing to show a little character development for him!
• “A Moment of Silence” by MotaroKahn - A FE Fates one-shot, set in no particular route, where Gunter reflects on the loss of his wife and child through the building is a snowman. This one is bittersweet, but damn, does it do the bittersweetness well. Getting to read Gunter’s reflections firsthand as he builds this snowman, this product of his love and his pain, help establish this tone. At times it might be easy to forget how lonely Gunter truly is, but this author is sure to write in a way that ensures that you might remember a little more often.
• “Bedtime Stories” by fayesdiary ( @fayesdiary ) - A FE Awakening one-shot containing Chrom/Robin and their little family, where Chrom and Robin are desperately searching for a new story to tell their little ones after they have finished Tales of Hoshido, Nohr, and the Invisible Kingdom. This story is full of adorable Lucina and Morgan content as cute little kids, and also features several fun references to other Fire Emblem titles, which is perfect for any long-standing FE fan.
• “Lantern” by pronz69 - A FE Fates one-shot about Jakob’s backstory, detailing how he went from the rejected child of two nobles to one of Corrin’s closest confidants. One thing I really loved about this one was that it did a good job of preserving the tragedy of Jakob’s backstory, while also maintaining his sharper personality traits. It really establishes him as an interesting character, because while most of his early relationships were not formed on kindness or respect, it shows that when it comes down to it, he values it deeply. He’s reluctant to trust at first, of course, but “Lantern” proves that Jakob truly is just a person who wants to be loved…
• “Talking” by NoFunctionalSaveButton - A FE Three Houses one-shot set at the end of Verdant Wind, in which Claude and Rhea get to finally sit down and have a conversation about her past — and encourage each other to live. This one is an emotional but fun establishment of culture, one establishing the histories and cultural practices of the Nabateans and the Almyrans. It digs deep into the potential connection between Claude and Rhea, and serves as a means of exploration for the part of Claude that does want to give Rhea the benefit of the doubt as a person. This one is honestly just really great, and I must confess, this is not the first time I have read it. It’s worth a read and reread any time.
• “Fall” by May_Aboreal - A FE Three Houses one-shot set during Crimson Flower, but on the Golden Deer’s side. This piece is about the death of Hilda and her last moments before she dies, thinking of Claude and her beloved Marianne, and what is to come next. This story is so beautifully descriptive, and manages to encapsulate the relationships between Hilda and her two loved ones with such power.
• “Everything is a Sweet Revelation” by theatrhythms - A FE Echoes College AU one-shot, focused on Gray/Tobin and Mae/Boey. To be more specific, actually, it’s about Mae and Gray trying to figure out as a duo how they’re supposed to act now that they’ve started dating one of their best friends in the world. Clever, charming, and accurate, this one is just a straight up pleasure to read for anyone who’s a fan of these two pairings.
• “Floriography” by luminioux - A FE Three Houses Marianne/Hilda College AU. This one is actually a challenge one-shot, where the author could only use three sentences to tell their story. Each of those three sentences is used damn near perfectly, with a clear understanding of both Hilda and Marianne’s characters, and an extremely entertaining picture of what their lives together would look like as college girls.
• “Spilt Milk” by Steelport - A FE Fates one-shot written for Felicia/F Corrin. This fic lovingly tackles Felicia’s self-esteem issues in relation to her relationship with Corrin, and how she feels like she will never be good enough for her. So overwhelmed by her feelings, Felicia runs away, only to find out that… maybe things weren’t exactly as she always saw them. It’s a serious depiction of Felicia’s clumsiness and emotional struggle, and a comforting romance that confronts just how important the two girls are to each other.
• “From Dawn to Dusk” by MahNati - A FE Fates multi-chapter written for Siegbert/Shiro. I’ve already raved about this once or twice before, but I cannot recommend it enough. Set after Conquest, it follows Shiro’s journey to become the next king of Hoshido through visits back and forth to Nohr and meetings with Siegbert… until news comes that the long lost Fujin Yumi has suddenly been recovered in Nohrian territory. This fic is an awesome confrontation of the Shiro/Siegbert relationship with good development, and does just about as much with relationships like Hinoka & Shiro and Xander & Siegbert without even having to try that hard. The characterizations are crisp and powerful, and the whole story is one I have read more than once. It’s still updating fairly regularly, too, so you have lots to look forward to!

Reviewing the Chrom Supports because I need something to do while waiting for the Brave banner to drop.
no.1: Robin. My favorite. Both a reference to my favorite fe lord cannon romance (Sigurd and Deirdre) and even my second favorite one (Ike and Soren). The people who don't pair Chrom up with Robin astound me, the game gives you a man, tells you can break his heart ruin him, and you simply chose not to? Couldn't be me. I like what it does for Awakening's story, and I like how it makes Lucina suffer. Girl goes back in time to save her parents and the world and she finds out it's impossible to do both. Chef's kiss. Immaculate, their bond being central to the story and themes of Awakening makes it my favorite.
no.2: Maribelle. A sleeper hit for my second favorite Chrom pairing. If I ever to a play through of awakening where I play as male Robin, I'd pair Chrom up with Maribelle. I'm a sucker for childhood friends, and Maribelle having political ambitions (wanting to reform the judicial system) makes her a really interesting queen of Ylisse. Also Brady has the funniest version of the Chrom recruitment dialogue, "Is that how you speak to Ylissean royalty?" "I am Ylissean royalty!" Lives in my head rent free.
no.3: Olivia. Honestly Olivia and Chrom don't have to many actual interactions outside of their (not great) C-A support. But, while I don't have many feelings about Chrom and Olivia as a couple I do have strong feelings about Lucina and Inigo as siblings. I love them as siblings. They're so, so, funny. And Chrom!Inigo in fates, sitting on the floor of Xander's study having a crisis trying to figure out how he can see through his eye is something I have thought about. The only down side of them as siblings is that it means Owain is his cousin meaning Soleil and Ophelia are related and I think they should be girlfriends instead of second cousins.
no.4: Sully. They're both knights. Strong fighters. That's about all I feel about that. I honestly forget that they support. The recruitment Dialogue for Kjelle isn't even very different. She doesn't even say he's her father.
no.5: Sumia. The only one I actively dislike, my least favorite for a few reasons. First it's her only ending where she doesn't "Trade her lance for a stretch of pasture to raise a happy group of pegasi." Pairing her up with Chrom takes her out of her natural habitat, and I will call the cops for pegasus knight abuse. She deserves to settle down on a farm and live a peaceful quiet life. It's what she deserves. Second, I refuse to believe that Cynthia would mistake generic bandit 97 for her father. She recognised her mother's ring while both of them were mounted on their pegasi but she mistakes some guy, who doesn't have blue hair, falchion or a brand for her father! Although my distaste mostly come from the "She would be actively miserable as queen and should settle down to raise pegasi."

got tagged by @fayesdiary for WIP wednesday and since i WAS writing today... I shall oblige. even if it's already thursday in my time. it's still wednesday somewhere in the world!
So, you get a snippet from chapter 7 of plusquam, which I worked on today. all of infinitiv proudly bears the draft name of "ACT 2 BABEY"
in exchange for me not injuring them this chapter morgan gets blackmailed instead cuz i will never let them rest <3
i respectfully tag @thanatophagency in case he wants an opportunity to show off but my usual "only do it if you wanna" applies
"Hah. And you know me so well?" As though Gerome had ever acted out of more than common courtesy - out of respect for his father's duty to the Exalt. "Morgan is dead."
"And Morgan will stay dead."
What? Lucina truly could not know of this. Of whatever game Gerome played now. He walked away from Minerva with his hands up and palms facing forward. Did he clean your blood off his axe?
"I have a preposition."
Your hand clenched around your knife. You could kill him. He's wide open. Instead, you said, "I'm listening."
"We are in the distant past, years before our time. Changing fate is what all of them want. But... it would not do to change too much."
You damn well knew that already, and it agonized you. How do you prune the bad and keep the good? How do you guarantee any of you will ever be born?
"Marth, Caeda, Michalis. All of these names, childish they may be, serve a purpose."
"What, making Owain happy?"
Gerome frowned. "Kris had a hand in this, I admit."
"Kris isn't a real hero."
"According to Kris, Kris is a 'heavily debated historical subject.'" You could hear the air-quotes on that one. Despite his nonsensical tales, both Owain and Lucina held deep passion for the past. Many an argument you snuck past in summer evenings, and you recalled, ever so distant, Gerome skulking around some of them.
"I'm not suprised," a smile crept into your voice, and you grimaced to push it back down.
"We must distance ourselves from the people of the past. We do not belong here."
"You just don't want me blabbing to your mother."
Gerome moved his hand, and you prepared to strike, but he merely massaged his temple. Much good it did him behind the mask. It's the gesture that counted. "The Cherche of this world is not my mother, and she never will be. But yes."
The Robin of this world was not your father, and never would be. Papa was long gone and Dad was buried under a mountain of flowers.
You blinked.
"And what do I gain in return? For not proclaiming your huge forehead to the high heavens?"
Where Gerome was a stick in the mud before, he truly has become even stiffer since you spoke last. And riling him up remained just as fun. You could never resist.
He scoffed. "I won't tell Marth of you."
Now it was your turn to scoff. "What should I care if she finds out?" Distant wingbeats, ever closer, beating over your heart. A grin split your face. "And what should I care if I dispose of you right here and now?"
The undead wyvern crashed into the clearing, snapping branches and bushes along the way. Its head lolled further than before, taking a loop around its neck before settling in your direction.
Gerome dodged back to evade the spray of plant matter and dirt. As you jumped atop the wyvern and readied your magic, so did he climb Minerva and take out his hand axe.
"Indeed. Perhaps I should be off to tell him now, that his dear sibling faked their death and joined the one who killed his parents."
"Indeed. Perhaps I should be off to tell him now, that his dear sibling faked their death and joined the one who killed his parents."
He would not dare. "You insignificant wretched worm. You lot play at being heroes of justice, and yet you stoop to blackmailing me. Aren't you supposed to die for me?"
As a mage, you held the advantage in the air, especially since a wyvern's resistance was much meeker than a pegasus's. The two-faced wretch could count himself lucky you did not have a wind tome on hand, but thunder would fry him well enough.
"I never participated in your play acting. Marth became my only liege once you betrayed your kin." His voice rose to carry over Minerva's liftoff, not a step behind you.
Your kin. What a riot. And yet, it told you something very important - the fools had no clue of Master Grima's face, as he had ensured.
The two of you circled over the treetops, neither attacking, neither retreating.
Gerome continued, "I am no hero and I do not pretend to be, as you pretend to be the villain. If... if saving this fleeting dream is what brings him happiness, then it is my duty as his knight to keep dreaming."
