I made lil sprite edits of the gem mermaids, mostly just for character design practice-

I leaned heavily on what parts of the ocean they'd likely been based on. Crimson's likely the community and protector of her pod/kingdom, so I wanted her to be more armored up and battle damaged with a subtle shark aethstetic. {i'm sorry I didn't touch her sea horse, just assume they look they exact same}

Aquamarine strikes me as the more emotionally available one that cares for the pod in a more intimate way compared to Crimson. Say tending to young when parents are busy collecting food, hearing the community out and taking it to her sisters for assistance and just being an extra set of hands. Citrine is the one who is typically in charge of construction and just general aethstetic of their homes, but who's true passion is planning celebrations. just generally likes to keep moral and spirits high for the pod. Opal seems like someone based deeply in the deep zones of the ocean, so I just leaned more heavily into that. using the rainbow colors of opals as an excuse to snag the rainbow bioluminescence of a lot of marine life down there. And she's relied on for predictions of the sea and general worship of the mighty sea and the tear.

And darling little Pearl. I gave her more blues and darker colors, specifically the black with sparkles on her "skirt" to better fit with her whole moon theming.

She is wearing a high-necked, peach leotard with a translucent ribbon tied around her waist, fingerless gloves, and thigh-high stockings. Her flats have ribbons that lace up her calves, forming a bow in the back. Peach Peach leans forwards slightly, holding her hands up to her head and sticking out her tongue.

4.) A Plum Pearl labeled as "nervous" and "fussy" with light-purple skin, a gem on her upper back, and short, purple hair that sticks out slightly with curved bangs. She is wearing a plum-purple bodysuit with the back exposed and the straps tied in a bow behind her neck in addition to high, white stockings. Plum Pearl is drawn from behind, wrapping her arms around herself and looking over her shoulder with a weary frown.

5.) A Purple Pearl labeled as "Chill AF" and "aloof" with indigo skin, a gem on her forehead, and short purple hair that sticks forwards. She is wearing a white top with shoulder cut-outs and a sheer, purple frill along the hem over a lilac leotard and dark-purple stockings. Purple Pearl stands primly, draping a sheer sash over her bent arms.

She is wearing a pale-orange leotard with slightly darker gloves and stockings. Small, white wings(real wings or not is unclear) protrude from her lower back. Gold Pearl crosses her arms with an unimpressed frown.

SU OC: New Year

[Update: January 12, 2024]

I know, that New Year has already days ago. But, I want to post this art.

Okay, I draw Keisuke, Ichiro, Ryota and Simon (Hibiki) Nakamura with their gem girlfriend and friends celebrate New Year in Japanese style.

Ryota and Kiyoko (Mint Pearl) make Mochi in the traditional way (Mochituki) in New Year. While, Natsumi (Heaven Beetle) is cheering to see they make Mochi, her fav. Dessert.

Ichiro take his girlfriend, Mika (Milky Quartz) with her friend, Sumire (Purple Star Sapphire) to watch fireworks on New Year's night. Mika and Sumire were impressed with fireworks much. Because, they had never seen something like this before in their life.

Keisuke, Sango (Coral Pearl), Tetsuya and Emiko are eating Ozoni together like family in New Year. Sango enjoy eating Ozoni much, that she doesn't see her boyfriend, Keisuke and his 2 child, Tetsuya and Emiko who see her eating like that.

Simon and Grace/Masami (Blueberry Quartz) are playing Hanetsuki together in New Year.
