I got hyperhixated on a song "Operation" by Coppelius, where the plot tells about a medicine student who takes part in his friend's duel and when he got shot in the heart, the student took his hunting knife and pulled the bullet out, not paying attention to his friend's death. Moreover, this song is in German! I conducted a small research about duel history of Germany and found out that duels were prohbited in 1937, so assuming Medic is approximately 45 in 1962 when tf2 takes place, he could be in his twenties in 1937, which allows me to take this song as a headcanon

Hello!
I think that many games should play, on this finally downloaded Genshin. Sounds like anecdote, hah. Many characters liked but more impression made Coppelia and Coppelius. They are a mini boss in Fontaine location, and incredibly beautiful, so I couldn't and not draw!

Если интересно то шляпа под их портретами это эскиз будущего украшения сделанного по их мотивам, а если быть точнее то за основную идею я взяла части масок расположенные на их головах. А на этом у меня всё, надеюсь я не пропаду ещё на месяц!
If interesting the hat under their portraits is sketch future decoration made on their motives, and if be more precisely the main idea I took parts of masks located on their heads. And I hope I won't miss it for a month!

Girlies, Buoys and other friendlies, guess who is back on the Genshin phone experience because I just couldn't stand being unable to play anymore. It's been a year and a half since my pc refused to play the game and 6 months since I decided Honkai SR would be better. I can't. I need Neuvillette. I need to have him in my hands and squish him and kiss him. All the underwater things I find and kill are yours, please just come home Chief Justice.
BABAAAA LOOK AT THEM OOOO SO CHONKY little blub blub babo I adore you with all my heart.
Tumblr media
My pride and joy every big patch is to collect all the books that I can. When will I read them? Who knows, honestly. I had so much fun reading 'The Fox and the Sea of Dandelions', so I really want to know about the Fontaine fables. I'm going in so blind you can call me Mrs. Echolocation.
Tumblr media
Is this good?
Tumblr media
I got the entire set with simmilar stuff. Suppose whoever needs them is gonna be lucky.
I'm also missing so much food aaa
Only 450 egg rolls. We need to get them to 700 again.
Uh... SIR? I mean, yeah I just came to your town and it all looks posh and pretty and people are well-dressed and all your food has sugar in it for whatever reason. As a person who enjoys being salty you're surprisingly inefficient in using it.
Tumblr media
I ADORE ADORE THE COPELIUS AND COPELLIA DANCERS SO MUCH THANK YOU HOYOVERSE FOR MAKING THEM DANCE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION BECAUSE THAT IS THE COOLECT BOSS EVER IN MY LIFE THANK
---
After that brief intervention of me staring at them for 20 minutes and chasing them with my screen in the middle of the stage, we're back to looking for stuff.
Tumblr media
I want to craft the weapons for Fontaine, I heard they're pretty cool.
I'm going to cry.

IS IT CHIEF JUSTICE DID HE BUY YOUR PAINTINGS BECAUSE HE LOVES THEM YOU CUTE CUTE PRETTY THING OH NO I NEED TO HUG YOU
Melusines are so much better than the Aranara, I'm sorry. Also so much more expressive in their animation. It's a little like I'm watching muppets. That's the thought that was in my head earlier at least, alas... They're too sweet to call anything but sea angels.
Neuvillette you've outdone yourself.
Tumblr media
Uh... Paimon, let's go somewhere else. I think he needs time alone.
I have so many questions, so many things I want to do. I want to pull out Kaveh but Chongyun is so helpful. I need an electro character but I've been collecting the water flowers on the surface and they need a Hydro character. Neuvillette come home.
Also, I didnt expect the rumoyrs to be true but it seems that all Fontaine characters do the dolphin jump INCLUDING traveller when they're Hydro oriented. Very bizzare, like they learned to swim perfectly out of no where.
The anxiety of setting foot in water ever time is going to eat me alive until I forget this is only in Fontaine and I run 0 energy into a body of water deeper than my ankles and freaking die in Inazuma.

Coppelius. 2022-2023. Theatrical performance Animation, set design, film shooting, costume director Anastasia Yatsenko, choreographer Konstantin Leshchenko, screenwriter Ekaterina Leshchenko, producer Ekaterina Chekalina
In a series of works where I create animation for the theater, my projects are presented in collaboration with the Moscow Children's Ballet School and Ballet Moscow Ballet troupe. These projects are related to children's productions.
It would seem that everything is simple and elegant - the honed movements of ballerinas, soft transitions from one pose to another. But no, nowadays ballet is a real slaughter on the stage, where young dancers fight with each other like swordsmen, and classes resemble training in the teachings of "Tao". All this takes place in a children's world, with bright decorations and adult costumes, children on stage demonstrate resistance to cruel discipline, as if they are already adults and live by the rules of a rigid hierarchical society. In traditional ballet, children are forced to grow up ahead of time, but now it has become obvious.
Is it really necessary to start learning cruelty from an early age in order to survive in this world?

[Genshin Impact] Who was Coppelius and what are his masterpieces ?
Finally ! It is time for me to talk about THIS GUY. Before getting into theories and speculations (because this game never ceases to surprise us with its absurdly huge lore and foreshadowing) it would be a great thing to start with the beginning and by this I mean : Who is he ?
Coppelius was a musician and playwright that lived in Fontaine around 500 years prior to the game's events, before the cataclysm. Almost nothing is known of his life before becoming what we could consider the most famous artist of the nation, but a well hidden element can help us imagine how his childhood was. In Dwight Lasker’s office, located in the ruins of the Institute of Natural Philosophy, we can find this little paragraph at the beginning of his Ancient Notes :
“...Though it's a shame, we'll have to miss it. I was looking forward to Coppelius’ new work. Ever since he was a child, he's always been incredibly talented…”
We can understand that Dwight Lasker knew Coppelius as a child, which could mean that he was also an orphan that grew up in the Narzissenkreuz Institute in the same time period, along with Basil Elton, Karl Ingold and Emanuel Guillotin. (If only there was more information about that !)
Coppelius had a troupe and we learned through the instrument maker Giovanni, Patrono of the Pascale Family at Petrichor, that the family’s ancestors used to be the luthiers who tuned the troupe’s instruments. But who knows if they traveled to other nations ? Talking about Petrichor, this is where we can find one of his descendants : Goldoni. This woman also aims to be recognized as a great playwright. Please go talk to her, she's saying very interesting things !
Tumblr media
Now let's see some of Coppelius’ plays, starting with “Golden Hyperborea”. This one depicts the story of a homesick flower (a Lumidouce Bell, referred to as “Weeping Crystal”) who wanders in the freezing lands of the north, which suggests : Snezhnaya. This is where its beauty is made eternal by the icy winds. It is important to note that for Fontainians this flower is said to represent parting and the wish for reunion…
Tumblr media
If we follow the critics of his time, this play perfectly aligns with the author's obsessions. It was said that Coppelius gave a great importance to eternal beauty and eternal love, an obsession that can be found in every line of his last works, which also includes “Clockwork Coppelia”.
"There is no absolute good or evil, only absolute beauty and ugliness. And that which makes beauty is eternal love…”
–Coppelius’ words, given to us by Goldoni.
If you are familiar with the lore, the second one will probably remind you of something, this is “Parsifal”. This play is about the eponymous elusive thief from Mondstadt’s old history, and of course the Blue-Eyed Spear Witch. This story inspired two other famous and very special artists from Fontaine : Parsifal the great and her assistant Josephine, they lived around 500 years ago, like the author.
Most of his plays show his interest for history, the next one is “The Saga of Aurelius” that we can read about in the “Silvershower Heartstrings” weapon.
People are unsure about Aurelius' existence, mostly believing that he was invented, just like Ajax (Really?) but in reality, he was one of the four Harmosts of Remuria. Through time, the uncertainty explains why there are a lot of variations for the Harmost’s story. As for the script Coppelius wrote, Aurelius was “a hero as glorious as gold, who conquered countless traitorous nations and cities for Fontaine”.
Some of the other interpretations of the story say that Aurelius and his troops went to the Pine Forest (Dryas Woods) where the protagonist met a young maiden : Dryastis. Some say that she saved him from his foes and took his hand, asking him to take away the conflict and sorrow from this land. And others, that she gave him her bow only for him to get killed by traitors later. Or even, that Aurelius’ passion for Dryastis was so strong that he pursued her in the forest and that she fled to the riverbank, weeping to her pure-water mother, the ruler of the Many Waters. The divinity took pity on her fate, and turned her into a pine tree to escape.
Another play, “Masque of the great”, is mentioned by Goldoni but we don't have any information yet. I first thought it might be about the story told in “the fall of the faded castle” because of its references to “The Masque of the Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe but we know a Great historical figure who wore a mask : Remus.
There's more of his works that we don't know about yet, or some already named plays which are not clearly attributed to him in-game.
But his greatest, most interesting and famous play is the last one that could not be performed to completion, “Clockwork Coppelia”. You can partially read this one in the “Flowing Purity” weapon !
The character Coppelius, whose name is the same as the playwright, created an automaton : Coppelia. Because he committed an unclarified sin he was chased and his plan was finally exposed to the marechaussee. He bids farewell to Coppelia before his punishment, asking her to sing for him one last time. But she does not want to sing of this sin and inevitable punishment, she says that everything he pursues is illusory, as hollow as stage scenery.
Later in the play, Coppelia is traveling with a young man named Nathaniel. She explains to him why she travels, that she is searching for her creator even if she believes him to be dead. The clockwork lady says that all sin will be forgotten once her rusted gears return to the same ash as Coppelius’ bones. Nathaniel asks Coppelia what she exactly plans to do, she reveals that her heart was stained by the same sin during this journey. What we know of the incomplete play ends with Coppelia wondering how her tortured heart could even find peace.
The first and last representation of this play coincides with its author's death. When Coppelius presented “Clockwork Coppelia” at the theater it was interrupted during the first intermission because of the Cataclysm. Only few spectators survived the destruction of the opera theater and it is only through them that some parts of Coppelia’s story are still known.
After five hundred years, this unfinished tragedy can be seen come to life as the Icewind Suite, the duo of automatons inspired by the play.
Tumblr media
According to Maillardet, the researcher from FRIKEE who built them, the idea first came from the director Bossuet. But honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he stole this idea from someone else because it already happened…Since he was forced to resign from his role as a director, Maillardet took over the project. However, this engineer wanted to achieve something different by creating the Artificed Dancers, it gradually strayed from the first idea and became this world Boss we now know.
Maillardet also adds his bits of story from what he understands of it, about “how Coppelius was defeated in a war against temptation, and was thus punished” and how Coppelia, in her love, nearly died of grief and set on a journey to save her imprisoned creator. But he also says that no matter the drama, it must end in a lovers’ dance.

Fontaine Battle Themes “Envoi of Coppelius” & “Lamentation et Triomphe” Reaction
For “Envoi of Coppelius” I focus more on the name’s literary allusions, and for “Lamentation et Triomphe” I focus more on the formal narrative aspect. If you wanna learn more about the actual instruments used in “Lamentation et Triomphe” I’d highly recommend MarcoMeatball’s reaction!
-
Envoi of Coppelius / 科培琉司的辞行
Impression
This is (one of) the Fontaine battle theme(s)?? So much is going on.
It doesn’t feel intimidating, and rather feels like a grand performance with elaborate dance moves.
Yet it’s multi-layered and surely beneath this grand movement there lies… something. I can’t discern it.
Rather, if you ask someone who doesn’t know the game whether this sounds like ballroom music or a battle theme, they would likely answer the former.
But if you imagine this in the context of a battle in Fontaine… If during a deadly battle in the fields of Fontaine, all you hear is music you’d find in a ballroom… then it downplays the dangerous nature of the situation.
So this also represents the culture of Fontainians seeing court trials as a theatrical performance
Something in the piano arpeggios (?) signify an undercurrent of danger
Name Significance: Literary Allusions
envoi (also envoy): “The brief stanza that ends French poetic forms such as the ballade or sestina. It usually serves as a summation or a dedication to a particular person.” (“Glossary of Poetic Terms”, Poetry Foundation)
Coppelius: “Coppelia and Coppelius are two characters that appear in the [real-life] ballet Coppélia, in which Dr. Coppelius creates Coppelia, a mechanical doll so lifelike that it is mistaken for a real woman.” (“Icewind Suite”, Genshin Impact wiki)
In the context of the Archon Quest, Dr. Coppelius might represent Focalors the Hydro Archon, and Coppelia represents… Furina, a human who plays the role of the Hydro Archon
But given the Icewind Suite’s—and its inspiration’s—mechanical nature, I wonder if the name brings any meaning to the Narzissenkreuz Ordo…
The track’s Chinese name, “科培琉司的辞行” is something like, “Coppelius’ Farewell to Family and Friends Before a Voyage”
科培琉司 (Kēpéilisī). The in-game transcription of the name Coppelius.
The individual hanzi have significance, probably related to the boss’ mechanical nature.
科 = (academic) subject
培 = to train (people)
琉 = 琉璃 = coloured glaze, lazurite, coloured glass
司 = department
科培琉司 (Kēpéiliúsī) is written and pronounced differently from the name 葛蓓留斯 (Gébèiliúsī), which is the accepted transcription for Dr. Coppelius, the character from the real-life ballet, Coppélia. (“葛蓓莉亚”, Baidu)
辞行 (cíxíng), verb. To bid farewell towards family and friends before leaving for a long journey.
Hm. Just like the Fontaine Archon Quest. In a nation where trials were seen as theatrical performances or opera, of course the battle theme sounds like this.
-
Lamentation et Triomphe
Impression: Form & Narrative
0:05 - Staccato forte strings. Now that sounds Mondstadtian, but much more intense and grand. (Understandable.)
This sounds like a properly dangerous and tense theme.
0:15 - Oh, it goes back to sounding like a more casual dance again while still retaining the staccato forte strings… Of course, as expected of the Nation of Hydro. (Didn’t I hear this section in 4.2’s PV? No, that’s a different one…)
Thanks to the introduction, you cannot possibly ignore the danger beneath it all, yet the surface is still so grand as though it’s just a dance…
As though the soundtrack itself is trying to desperately cover up something tense through theatrics and grandeur.
That tiny calmness in the fingerstyle guitar sure fools you into thinking it’s calmed down.
0:37 - The intensity is back to the surface again…
0:47 - But it’s again submerged in the grandeur of the strings above…
1:01 - Piano and fingerstyle guitar… The guitar sounds personal and yet the deep piano chords underneath suggest the same thing as the strings previously.
Hmm… It’s desperately trying to cover up with a grand performance but it’s not working… hehe. You can’t fool me with that sort of intro.
1:13 - I see… everyone dancing with confident energy in their synchronized movements, yet beneath the elaborate costumes and wonderful music, they all hold daggers pointed at one another. A masquerade of…
1:22 - And then, with the bright brass sound, the spotlights focus on the primadonna, and they all turn to watch her performance. And they applaud…
This track is four minutes… We’re only halfway through, oh my… This proves the brilliance and thoughtfulness of this composition…
1:52 - Oh? Soft and graceful, yet playful… With the fingerstyle guitar back and quiet staccato strings in the background. Like honey-smooth water… Furina de Fontaine.
2:13 - This motif again. Where have I heard of it… The tensity is gone and there’s playfulness and confidence.
2:35 - I heard the first five or three notes of the Fontaine leitmotif quietly and briefly in the background… And then it’s gone.
2:47 - That grand performance is back again…
2:54 - And so is that deep tragedy, punctuated by the same forte staccato. (Or is it staccato forte)
2:59 - Oh? Peace with strings and guitar?
3:07 - There’s that sadness again.
3:10 - Hmm… Those two forces are showing their faces more and more frequently, huh.
3:21 - Hm? There’s a sense of pride and proper victory in the grandeur here.
3:42 - Hooh…. The intro is back. Or more accurately speaking, the overture got a finale…
Oh… This was perfect… This was such a wild ride with so many facets and contrasting forces struggling to take the spotlight or hide from it… I love it. Lamentation et Triomphe indeed.
