ALSO WHILE IM AT IT
Stop blaming Dream for not knowing about the villagers. Yes, Nightmare was clearly hurt and being abused, but everyone forgets that DREAM WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD. He can not psychologically comprehend abuse- let along physical- and can hardly understand what bullying is. He’s an elementary schooler. He doesn’t know how to pick apart the signs of abuse from another eight year old who also doesn’t comprehend what is happening to him. Dream had no idea the apple incident could happen. He doesn’t even comprehend what depression is or mental health stuff at all. HE IS EIGHT. No matter the amount of signs, he is a child who is mentally incapable of noticing what’s happening to his brother, and it’s up to adults to notice stuff like that, but it’s the ADULTS who failed them.
They were both children, and yes, having Dream feel guilty as an adult for not noticing is a valid thought he’d have, but you yourself blaming him too is not. Even if Dream did somehow comprehend what was happening, HES EIGHT.
To give a better perspective on what eight year old milestones are and how little Dream could do with his mental capacity….
-they start to learn how to count by 2s (Dream likely couldn’t Read very well because nobody taught him)
-still are losing their baby teeth
-Have a black-and-white perspective much of the time. Things are either great or awful, ugly or beautiful, right or wrong. They focus on one trait or idea at a time. This makes it hard for them to understand complex issues. AHEM???
-sfill don’t have a full grasp of grammar in writing or speech
-just starting to learn to tie their shoes
He was a literal baby who didn’t know how to tie his shoes without help. Hoe the hell was he supposed to stop adults from abusing his brother? He couldn’t tell anyone, because all the adults besides Neil were against them. And also FUCK NEIL. Neil DISNT step in to help baby Nightmare, only Dream. FUCK THAT CAT. HE LET TWO EIGHT YEAR OLFS LIVE OUTSIDE AND GET ABUSED BY A VILLAGE OF ADULTS. HE IS NOT A GOOD FATHER FIGURE FOR DREAM HE DID NOTHING WHILE THEY WERE BEING ABUSED BESIDES GIVE DREAM ENCOURAGEMENT.
Edit: yeah apparently he was six so fuck y’all even more he’s a kindergartner I’m gonna kill someone that poor baby

I was watching SCP videos, along with Pokespe stuff, and an idea came to me
SCP- 6517
Gotta Catch ‘Em All Part 2
6517 is an unassigned number as of the time of this post
Object Class: Euclid
What if the effects of SCP-5254 didn’t just apply to the Pokémon creatures? What if it was extended to the human characters featured in various Pokemon-related media as well?
SCP- 6517 refers to a series of cosplay costumes produced and sold from a particular website.
This website is called PokeTrainer Depot, which features a wide array of character costumes specifically themed to media released by the Pokemon Company and its affiliates.
Analysis of these costumes by themselves, even as separate pieces, reveals nothing inherently anomalous about them. They appear to be constructed of normal clothing materials such as cotton, denim and some plastic. Even chemical analysis revealed nothing out of the ordinary.
However, tags with the acronym AWCY? have been found inside the clothing articles, suggesting a connection to the avant garde art association Are We Cool Yet?.
Access to the website has been restricted to the public and can now only be accessed by the SCP Foundation given the necessary clearance.
Efforts are ongoing to keep the website from popping back up, as Ser_Viper seems determined to sell them all.
No pop-up or brick and mortar locations have been reported to date.
There is also no factory name on the labels found within the costumes. Just the logo of the website and washing instructions alongside the AWCY? logo.
Navigation of the site is relatively simple, with the costumes divided into sections based off of which ‘Generation’ they originated in.
For example, Generation 1 refers to the characters introduced in the 1996 releases of Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, and Pokemon Green as well as Pokemon Yellow in 1998. It also includes the remakes, namely Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen released in 2004.
SCP- 6517 was first discovered in 2022, post pandemic when a female cosplayer decided to go as one of her favorite Pokemon characters to a local convention, but didn’t have the time, talent or resources to make the costume herself.
So, she ordered it online.
After browsing several sites, ranging from Party City to Spirit Halloween, she found PokeTrainer Depot. It seemed to be of the quality she wanted and for a decent price (converted from yen to USD).
The costume was based on Rosa, the female Player Character from Pokemon Black and White 2.
She received the costume in the mail after about two weeks, and she immediately tried it on for size.
It fit her fairly well, though the wig was a bit cumbersome. She took it off after twenty minutes. She figured that was long enough to break it in.
A few weeks later, she attended the convention with a few friends, who were also going as Pokémon characters, and had a fun time.
They attended a few panels and ogled over other people’s art and crafts for sale.
After the cosplayer had worn the Rosa costume for over three hours, she started to feel an itchiness in her eyes that refused to go away.
She regretfully had to leave the convention due to the prolonged discomfort.
Once at home, the cosplayer removed her Rosa costume and slipped into something more comfortable. She took some painkillers and laid on the couch in her living room, eyes closed and waiting for the pain to stop.
Once it subsided, she felt the call of nature. As she finished up, she looked at herself in the mirror and gasped.
She noticed that her eyes had changed color to match that of the character.
She was confused and a little bit scared. She didn’t wear contacts, so how did this happen?
Freaked out, she contacted her doctor about the sudden eye color change.
She made an appointment for one week from then.
In that time, the young woman still had to go to work, but she noticed other changes as well.
Her hair grew longer and started to change color, though she was already a brunette so the color change was subtle.
Her skin tone changed as well, though again it was subtle as she was already caucasian. She felt a stinging sensation along her skin as it changed, though, preventing her from sleeping and thus arriving to work the next morning sleep deprived.
When the day of her doctor’s appointment came, she still looked like herself, save for the eyes, hair and skin tone.
She decided to wear her suddenly-longer-hair in a ponytail.
The doctor looked her over, tested her blood pressure and all the usual checkup procedures. When it came to blood and urine tests, the results were… unusual.
So unusual in fact, that her physician contacted their peers, which eventually reached the ears of the SCP Foundation.
The cosplayer lived alone in a rented apartment while working retail at a large name brand store. Her coworkers noticed the changes in her eyes and hair and complimented the cosplayer on it.
Though the pins and needles-like pain she felt in her body made her worried.
Over the course of the next two weeks, the cosplayer experienced further physical changes, including height and a visible de-aging. She looked like she was twelve again.
She also started blacking out without explanation, appearing someplace else some time later.
It was around then that the SCP Foundation went to the cosplayer’s home to investigate.
She let them in with no fuss and complied with answering their questions.
The entire conversation was recorded for future analysis.
She admitted she had to call in to work the past few days because she felt there was something seriously wrong with her.
The blackouts frightened her, and the pain and discomfort she felt in her body didn’t help. She knew it wasn’t time for her menstrual cycle yet.
It was like she was an alien in her own body.
As she was trying to explain her situation to the SCP Agent, she seemingly blacked out again, going silent and still for a moment. But she didn’t pass out.
When she looked back up, she wasn’t as shaken or anxiety-ridden as she was before.
It was as if she was experiencing a personality disorder, and another personality had taken over.
The Agent continued with their questioning, asking the new entity to identify itself.
It identifying itself as Rosa, a saddened look on her face.
She also complied to answering questions, while asking several of her own.
She admitted to being very confused as to where she was most of the time, and that she felt guilty about inconveniencing her host once she realized what was happening.
‘Inconveniencing’ was an understatement.
She knew she was no longer in Unova. She was in someplace called New York, where Pokémon existed only in fiction. As did she.
But Rosa wasn’t worried by this. Quite the contrary.
Rosa told the Agent that the last thing she remembered before waking up in the cosplayer’s apartment was darkness.
Her memories in fragments, recounting events extremely similar to that of Pokémon Black and White 2 from her perspective, with realistic details that the game and its adaptations never mentioned.
The Agent was able to help clarify the situation for the displaced Pokémon trainer, and asked her if there was any way to reverse the process.
Rosa shook her head sadly.
There wasn’t one she was aware of, as it wasn’t meant to be reversible.
Before the darkness, she remembered the end of her adventure.
While she was in the darkness, she heard a voice telling her that her story wasn’t finished yet. That she would be given a chance at a new life in another world.
Soon after that, Rosa switched out with the cosplayer, who panicked upon waking.
The Agent informed her of what Rosa had explained, as she had not been conscious for the duration.
The cosplayer directed him to the website she ordered the costume from.
The cosplayer was taken to Site 19 for containment and further questioning.
All the while, the Foundation contacted their Site in Japan, wanting to know if the Nintendo Company knew anything about the PokeTrainer Depot website.
It turned out they didn’t, and any instances of SCP- 6517 were already being kept secret from the mega million dollar company by an unknown third party.
Understandably.
If they found out there were cosplay costumes that successfully turned humans into their characters, albeit not the Pokemon themselves, it would be like SCP-5254 all over again.
After some digging into the website, analysts found an address attached to the sender of the anomalous costumes.
Members of special task force MTF Epsilon-11 ("Nine-Tailed Fox"), the same task force responsible for neutralizing SCP-5254 instances that manifest in public spaces, were dispatched to the address to investigate and secure any instances of suspected SCP-5254 and/or SCP- 6517 that may be on the premises.
The location was a house in the Kansai region, surrounded by fields and sparse trees. The house was of traditional Japanese design with a second floor and some modern amenities.
When the MTFs arrived, one operative observed that there was someone waiting for them outside, sitting on the front porch.
They appeared to be a Japanese woman with long dark hair kept in a high ponytail wearing a simple loose shirt and long skirt. She appeared to be in her late 20s.
When the MTFs approached, she showed no resistance or hostility. She even showed them inside upon being asked.
She had seen the trucks coming and knew what it meant.
They soon found a group of children and teenagers, ranging in age from 10 to 14 years, huddled in the living room.
The woman urged the children not to resist and to go with the MTFs willingly.
She asked if where they were going was safe. One agent responded that yes, they would be kept safe and secure until they could better determine what to do with all the transformed persons.
But that wasn’t up to the MTF.
The woman was identified as Keiko Nakamura, daughter of the mysterious Ser_Viper connected to SCP- 5254
She informed them that her father’s real name was Eiji Nakamura, but suspected that he would’ve changed his name to stay hidden by now.
That much information was better than nothing.
Keiko requested to come along with the SCP- 6517 instances so they may feel less afraid.
The request was approved.
Keiko was immediately brought to an interview with a SCP researcher assigned to SCP- 6517, Dr. Ruka Onata.
Keiko confessed that she knew this day would come, and had made rudimentary plans for such an occasion.
She confessed that she was the one who suggested to her father about bringing the human characters to life too.
It gave the man the idea to create the costumes sold on the PokeTrainer Depot website, working with AWCY? to produce them. He continued to create and add to the collection with every new Generation and characters created by the Pokemon Company.
She had no idea where he was doing it from, as they’d cut ties after she found out about his involvement with SCP-5254
It had been about five years prior when Keiko encountered the first instance of SCP- 6517.
She had been driving home from work in the city, and had just parked her car in the driveway when she saw someone on the porch.
It had been raining, and the rain obscured the person’s shape, though they didn’t seem to be moving.
Upon closer inspection, Keiko saw it was a girl around 9-10 years old, who had fallen asleep on her porch, seemingly waiting for her return.
Concerned, she picked the girl up and brought her inside without thinking twice. It wasn’t until after she’d laid the girl down on some tatami mats that she noticed the blonde coloration of her hair and odd clothing.
The next thing she noticed was that she was running a fever.
Keiko nursed the mysterious girl back to health, during which time she learned her name was Yellow and where she came from.
She confessed that her host’s name was Himawari, fittingly enough. It meant sunflower in Japanese.
When Keiko looked into the website herself, she was angry at Ser_Viper that he’d put her address on the site, seemingly using her as his scapegoat.
Attempts to change it were futile, and she couldn’t move away due to financial restrictions.
Without much of a choice, Keiko let Yellow stay in her house but she had to earn her keep and so the Pokemon Special character became her adopted daughter and housekeeper.
Over the next five years, characters from Generations 1 to 4 had shown up at her house, following the same logic as Yellow had only to be disappointed.
Keiko let them all stay with her… until the SCP Foundation arrived.
She found that any Pokémon character costumes after Gen 4 were not available in Japan, and the same could be said in other countries.
Gens 5 and 7 were only available in America, Gen 6 was only available in France, Gen 8 was only available in the UK and Gen 9 was only available in Spain.
Notices were given out to SCP Sites in these countries in case instances of SCP- 6517 were ever reported.
As previously mentioned, the MTF squad had recovered several children from Keiko’s home, all possessing physical and personality traits matching that of various Player and Rival characters from before Generation 5.
These include:
Kiiro (SCP- 6517-A), also known as Yellow
Age: 15
Akai (SCP- 6517-B), also known as Red
Age: 20
Midori (SCP- 6517-C), also known as Blue Oak or Green
Age: 16
Aoi (SCP- 6517-D), also known as Green, Leaf or Blue
Age: 20
Hibiki (SCP- 6517-E), also known as Ethan, Kin or Gold
Age: 17
Gin (SCP- 6517-F), also known as Silver
Age: 17
Kris (SCP- 6517-G), she is not known by other names, though she sometimes answers to Kotone or Lyra.
Age: 17
Yuuki (SCP- 6517-H), also known as Brendan or Ruby
Age: 15
Haruka Birch (SCP- 6517-I), also known as May or Sapphire
Age: 15
Wally (SCP- 6517-J), also known as Mitsuru.
Age: 15
Hikari Berlitz (SCP- 6517-K), also known as Dawn, Shirogane or Platinum
Age: 12
Kouki (SCP- 6517- L) also known as Lucas, Dia or Diamond
Age: 12
Jun (SCP- 6517-M), also known as Barry, Shinju or Pearl
Age: 12
While under initial containment in Research Site-79 in Tokushima, the victims of SCP- 6517 were kept in separate humanoid containment cells decorated to resemble relatively normal bedrooms.
They were later transferred to Site 19 in the USA for their own safety and because they had the additional housing necessary.
Luckily, the subjects were discovered to be multilingual, adapting to the many languages the Pokémon games are translated into.
Through testing, as with instances of SCP-5254, the effects of SCP- 6517 were irreversible, try as the researchers might.
Several trials were conducted to see if the subjects of SCP- 6517 could recall the memories of their hosts.
Some of these trials were successful, but it left the subjects with symptoms of a looming existential crisis.
To mitigate this, an on-site counselor was assigned to SCP- 6517 to help the subjects through this difficult time.
Other attempts to reverse the transformation with the twelve previous instances were proven ineffective, whether it be through hypnosis, wearing the Host’s old clothes or surrounding them with things that would hopefully trigger something from the Host’s memories.
The instances did divulge that while they could access some of their Host’s memories, their souls were gone.
For all intents and purposes, the original hosts were dead.
The Department of Misinformation made sure that the hosts’ deaths were made official despite having no bodies to show for it, the disappearances covered up and their families notified.
To test the effects of SCP- 6517 for themselves, Site 79 researchers ordered a cosplay of Lance, also known as Wataru in Japan, from PokeTrainer Depot.
Using Rosa’s testimony as a guideline, the researchers made the D Class keep the Lance costume on for three hours. When he began to complain of itchiness in his eyes, he was instructed to remove the costume.
The D Class was kept under surveillance for the next two weeks, during which time several notable physical changes occurred.
The D Class was originally a middle aged man with balding hair, a beard, and a portly body.
His eyes and hair changed color and shape. He also got taller, thinner with more angular features, and de-aged until he appeared to be in his late 20s.
He looked like Lance wearing the orange jumpsuit of a D Class.
They extracted samples of the D Class’ DNA every day, which allowed them to track how fast the effects of SCP- 6517 took to completely override the host’s DNA.
They also kept track of his brain waves, for when the other personality manifested.
It was after those two weeks that the D Class’ brain waves were replaced by another’s, though briefly.
Through interviews with the other personality, identifying itself as Lance, the SCP researchers learned that these instances borrowed several traits from the host in order to fill in gaps in their own personalities.
After the third week, the D-Class was gone, fully replaced by a walking and living version of a human Pokemon character.
The Cosplayer who became Rosa was given the designation of SCP- 6517-N.
After the transfer to Site 19, several other D-Class personnel were used to test the effects of SCP- 6517.
Lance was given the designation of SCP- 6517-O.
Three other characters were brought to life in this process, including N (aka Natural Harmonia Gropius), Cynthia (aka Shirona), and Hilda.
They are 20, 27 and 16 years old respectively
They were given the designations of SCP- 6517-P, Q and R.
Given that there were so many of them, the 0-5 Council allowed them to be moved to a separate location where they could be monitored but otherwise allowed to lead relatively normal lives.
The location was a campground located in Nevada.
The campground encompasses five acres of land, bordered by a concrete wall that only SCP personnel have clearance to enter and exit at any time.
The instances of SCP- 6517 have been given access to one acre of fruit trees and garden vegetables they tend to themselves.
The other four are woodlands that surround the campground.
Other food items and necessities are provided by the Nintendo Company as compensation for their involvement in the SCP-5254 fiasco that led to SCP- 6517.
The boys and girls sleep in separate cabins, as do the adults.
Personnel are assigned to act as Camp Directors, helping the instances adapt to how our world works and the animal species.
It is noted that they all own plushie versions of their individual Pokémon teams.
Addendum:
Having found the essay Eiji Nakamura had to prepare for the AWCY? Exhibition in 2014, SCP agents found exactly what they were looking for in terms of how SCP- 6517, and by extension SCP-5254 really worked.
The costumes were manufactured using a thread coated in an anomalous substance, one that once soaked through became indistinguishable from the thread itself. If used to stitch together clothing, the effects of the substance would spread to it as well.
The effect was listed as ‘transformation into the subject of the costume itself, believing themselves to be a certain character over a period of time.’
Other ways SCPs can bring Pokemon to life:
SCP-387 Living Lego
Lego Pokemon exist now
SCP- 507 Reluctant Dimension Hopper
If he somehow landed in the world of Pokemon and brought some back with him

ohhhh i had fun reading your analysis on argenti's gothic motifs!! i don't really play star rail (i couldn't handle grinding for that and genshin at the same time) but i think your analysis is sound and you presented good evidence. just wanted to share: 1) i really like your comparisons to Idrilla to the Virgin Mary cause that to me then suggests argenti's worship is similar to the Marian Devotions, a type of practice among Christians solely focused on the Mary, mother of God. From my experience as a Filipino Catholic in the Philippines, the Marian Devotions involve a lot of prayers and pilgrimages. October is considered the rosary month and for those really devout, they pray the rosary every day and also pass a statue of the Virgin Mary house to house. Similarly, there are a lot of churches in the Philippines dedicated to the Virgin Mary and people will typically undergo a pilgrimage to go there and pray. 2) in the same vein, the Virgin Mary actually has a lot of titles and epithets! There's Our Lady of Solitude, Queen of Heaven, Our Lady of Fatima, etc. More interestingly, there's Rosa Mystica (Mystical Rose), Our Lady of Sorrows, and Our Lady of the Thorns. So there's that interesting connection with Argenti's design. 3.) going off of that, a lot of the titles of the Virgin Mary are actually from supposed apparitions of her in certain places which have been acknowledged by the Church. examples of these are Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Our Lady of Lourdes. thus, you could connect argenti's desire to see Idrilla as a nod to the apparitions of the Virgin Mary. 4.) weak argument, but you could also argue that red is a color associated with the Virgin Mary. it is certainly not HER color, since white and blue are what she's typically associated with, but nonetheless, there's a lot of art of her wearing red. again, weak argument but yeah. 5.) lastly, we also didn't learn much about courtly love but if i remember, from what i read, the main characteristic of the woman in the courtly love is that she has to be unattainable. now, i could be misremembering, but again i think some have tried connecting the unattainable lady to the virgin mary. i just know that some said that courtly love feels somewhat religious and that lancelot and guinevere's relationship, while a form of courtly love, is also a perversion and hence it is necessary to punish them. but idk, i last read about this when i was in my second year so yeah. i also really like your claim that argenti is inspired by gallahad. if i remember correctly, gallahad was a later addition to the arthurian cycle and was created as a punishment (for lack of better word) for lancelot's faults. gallahad is supposed to represent the ideal that his father failed to embody. anyway, yeah. sorry for yapping in your inbox, had fun reading your analysis, 10/10 i think you should mesh art history and character analysis again <33
hi hi thank you for taking the time to read my sicko yap and to also leave an ask!! putting this under cut since im a chronic yapper
the stuff about pilgrimage and worship in the philippines is so cool! i know southeast asia has a lot of fun stuff going on as far as religious devotion is concerned but ive never had a chance to really study it in any capacity so this is all really cool stuff to me!
the epithets are definitely a good point to consider! especially the lady of thorns one because we see thorns everywhere with both argenti and idrila. one of these days i want to do more biblical flower analysis since i know one of mary's tried and true flower symbols is the lily, but that's really i got LMAO
as far as colors go, my gothic art professor (who's apparently a leading scholar in the field?? send a priv ask or a dm if you want details since im not that eager to doxx myself just yet HAHA) always said that the gothic were INSANE about symbolism so i wouldn't be surprised if there was some significance to the color red and mary. like you mentioned, i associate blue more with mary but that isn't to say i haven't seen her dressed in red (i think one of my stained glass examples literally has her in red)
side tangent: ive yapped a little bit before about how the mirror holders collecting parts of idrila's body is very reminiscent of the catholic practice of relics, but thats a whole can of worms i gotta read up on a little more to fully get into.
and yes you're absolutely right about the courtly love stuff! thinking too hard about lancelot makes my stomach hurt and im sure i can make a more nuanced argument with time, but like . am i crazy if i say that argenti's master and argenti are literally a lancelot-galahad parallel. like i feel insane if i think about any of them for longer than thirty seconds.
i know i probably sound like those english teachers with the "curtains were blue" symbolism shit but . its genuinely really interesting to me to see how deep argenti's symbolism can go like so much of his character design and lore has been lovingly crafted to reflect centuries of storytelling and art and its SOOOOOO !!!!! it makes my peepeepoopoo heart very happy
but yes!! thanks again for dropping this into my askbox! im sure ill vomit some more sicko shit abt argenti sooner or later, but this was all super cool tidbits!!!!

L'altra dimensione
Tumblr media
A/N: Måneskin is so Zutara coded (or is it the other way around?) And it made my brain rot intense in ways you can't imagine. Also, i do not know any italian, i'm here for the cool music and for Damiano and Victoria.
Contents/Tags: The Blue Spirit & The Painted Lady being vigilantes in Ba Sing Se. Role Swap AU (aka the water tribes caused the war, more of this AU here and also there.) Introspection. Character analysis, Pre-relationship Zutara. The tension in this one is off the charts.
Word count: 881
"It’s a sight to behold; her dark figure engulfed in moonlight, the white mask of the Painted Lady, delicate as ever, hiding her features and contrasting with her ruthless yet precise moves when fighting."
Tumblr media
The second Zuko placed the mask on his face, he felt more at ease, his constantly depleting confidence being boosted all the way up. Zuko might not be able to help those people, but the Blue Spirit was.
His path to the lower ring is relatively easy; he jumps through roofs and balconies, runs through the streets and alleys, and he is free and powerful; no wars, no big plans beyond his years, just helping whoever he can.
E adesso giuro faccio le valigie
Scappo via in un'altra dimensione
Son stanco delle vostre facce grigie
Voglio un mondo rosa, pieno di colore
(And now I swear I'll pack my bags
And escape to another dimension
I'm tired of your grey faces
I want a pink world full of colour)
Tonight, he has company.
He doesn’t see her that often, from what he’s gathered they tend to ‘work’ on different parts of the lower ring. It seems that they both decided to patrol the central market today though.
It’s a sight to behold; her dark figure engulfed in moonlight, the white mask of the Painted Lady, delicate as ever, hiding her features and contrasting with her ruthless yet precise moves when fighting.
The Blue Spirit approached the Painted Lady silently, and she turned to face him; her marbled mask tilting in a silent question. In response, he kneeled on the roof beside her, and dutifully watched the dwindling movement of the market below.
Their silence lasted, but eventually, she bumped her shoulder against his and gestured her head to a corner. He followed and saw what she meant; one of the vendors, a younger woman, was being very intently watched by a man across the street from her. It seemed the woman knew she was being watched, while she closed up her shop she would often glance around, nervous.
His Lady stood up first, the full moon reflection on her mask eerily. He followed suit, and together they ran through the roofs, like true spirits.
Voi comprate amore con le carte Visa
Con le facce intrise sì, ma di sudore
E adesso giuro faccio le valigie
Scappo via dalla dolce Marlena
(You buy love with credit cards
With faces that are drenched, yes, but with sweat
And now I swear I'll pack my bags
And escape from sweet Marlena)
By the time they were ready to separate there were only two or three hours left before sunrise. The Painted Lady stood on the rooftop, right in front of him, and on times like this, Zuko could almost believe she was truly a spirit, and not a mask, but he could see her shoulders moving with each breath she took, he could feel her eyes wondering his figure, just as curious about him as he was about her.
Marlena, Marlena, sì portami a ballare stasera
(Marlena, yes, take me dancing tonight, Marlena)
They were close, if Zuko really focused, he could hear her breathing too. They had done a lot that night; whenever the central market opened, some opportunists would follow suit, so they were busy, their dangerous dance disarming and restraining each one of the dangers that dared impose their domain.
Truly like spirits, yet so far from them, so painfully human; he taught. She slowly raised a hand to his forearm, tilting her head. He kept looking at her ‘face’, even though he felt the sting and the wetness against the cut in his arm.
(My friend, you must be happy since the new world is about to come
And there's no cut, no scar that this passion cannot cure
I, I from the ashes have arisen like a Phoenix, and I even learned to fly
Only because I packed my bags and kissed sweet Marlena)
In seconds, the pain was gone, her hand lingered, cold against his skin, then slid down his arm. He met her hand with his, she squeezed. Underneath the guise of spirits, they hid their identity and yet bared all their feelings, they sang a wordless lyric, and she sang of redemption while he sang of justice.
He could accept her, right there under the full moon, and everything would change.
He squeezed her hand back, then felt it slip from his grasp.
Marlena, Marlena, sì vienimi a parlare, ti prego
Marlena, Marlena, io ti starò a ascoltare, ti prego
Marlena, Marlena, insegnami a lottare, ti prego
Marlena, Marlena, sì portami a bailar
(Marlena, yes, come talk to me,Please, Marlena
Marlena, I'll stay listening, Please, Marlena
Marlena, teach me to fight, Please, Marlena
Marlena, yes, take me dancing. )
He slowly turned from her, and he disappeared between the shadows.
Maybe, the Blue Spirit thought, he would see his lady again, under the setting sun this time.

So, because I guess I hate myself, I decided to go read some GVH reviews on 4chan after the game came out and so much of it is just CinemaSins tier shit like "Uh, why aren't there looting and riots and street orgies if the world's gonna end?" or "Uh, why do high school kids give a fuck about a concert if the world's gonna end?" and it really makes me wonder what they'd rather GVH do with its premise. Did they want it to be a fucking Metro 2033 game or something? But then I thought about it and a FPS or action game where you play as a dinosaur surviving their extinction event would be pretty cool, so I wanted to bring that up to you to see what you think.
Expecting media literacy from 4chan is like expecting the McDonald's ice cream machine to work. And "what kind of game did they want?" can be answered by Snoot Game existing.
I too used to frequent 4chan (it's part of my brony origin story), but those days are long behind me. Apparently though, the freaks in the Snoot Game threads talk about me because of my accidental title of "Goodbye Volcano High's Strongest Soldier" (as if I should be ashamed!). It's a toxic place where the worst ideas are amplified and thinking critically makes you a shill, or a [t-word slur].
I like to engage with thoughtful, well-meaning people who have good ideas that they can make discuss civilly while also being open to criticism and analysis. That's why I don't engage with the 4chan crowd. They made a game that involves taking a queer character made by a queer indie studio, creating a whole new story to justify a detransition plotline, filled the rest of the game with racist jokes and memes that had gone stale 15 years ago, and called it a "heartfelt masterpiece".
Also, they spent a whole lot of time lusting over Rosa until GVH finally dropped and they found out she's a trans woman, and now they're calling for a war on Canada. So any claim they or their shitty game aren't anti-queer is disingenuous.
But also, yes, a dinosaur FPS (or survival horror game) would be pretty sick. Except you're the dinosaur, trying desperately to survive the extinction event. There's plenty of ideas there to explore!

Chapter 7: Analysis and Discussion
Tumblr media
We're back once again! As we make our way into Chapter 7, as is becoming increasingly common in this novelization, we open with a scene that isn't in the movie at all. Dan is riding a horse-drawn chuck wagon to the Copabanana (google "chuck wagon" if you don't know what that is) on account of his plane crashing a few chapters ago. Dan is pissed that he's taking such an archaic mode of transportation to the club as he was hoping to arrive in style, and does a backflip off the back of it to try and look cool. He fails. It's here we're introduced to the character of Lady X- and this whole scene is a pretty major diversion from the movie, where she isn't introduced until a little later. She's described as being a tall woman in a tight red dress, and if you haven't seen the movie (Dear god why would you be reading this blog if you haven't?) that's a fair, albeit incredibly brief summary of her appearance.
Tumblr media
Lady X asks where she can go for a good time, and Dan awkwardly stammers "Banana!". She responds saying she prefers zucchini, and I genuinely can't tell if this is supposed to be a sex joke? So far the novelization has mostly avoided the movie's numerous cases of innuendo and sex puns so I GUESS not? Anyway, I actually think the movie not including this scene is for the best- it's a very low-key introduction to the character of Lady X, whereas in the movie the way she's introduced about a scene later is much more dramatic and gives some much-needed weight to the arrival of her character.
Meanwhile Dex is still at the Copabanana, mourning his missing girlfriend, and he once again tries to catch a raisin in his mouth. He fails.
Tumblr media
Lady X enters the Copabanana, and THIS is where her character first shows up in the movie. Here in the novelization it's her second appearance, and there are some notable differences from the way it's depicted in the movie as well. We're told "Vlad, who had Rosa in a perfect dip, dropped her". This isn't in the movie's version of the scene, and the novelization doesn't tell us who Rosa is supposed to be (possibly the mascot for Rosarita, a brand of canned Mexican food?) so there's not much I can say about her. We're also told Tiki Taki, a breath mint Ike, starts breathing fire. This IS in the movie, but we're never told his name or what he's the mascot of, whereas here we are! (this is perhaps one of the advantages of a written format) I'll actually share the movie's version of this scene below, since it's accompanied by (what I believe) to be a genuinely fantastic song. Enjoy:
Lady X continues walking through the club as everyone watches in awe. On her way through the dance floor, she accidentally steps on the tail of "the maître d'". In the movie, this is Charlie The Tuna, and she says "Sorry, Charlie" after stepping on him. However, as we established in the previous chapter, this is clearly still SUPPOSED to be Charlie Tuna, and they just couldn't refer to him by name. So yeah, there are a few differences here and there in her introduction (notably the song isn't in the book on account of it being, well, a book) but it's more or less the same.
Tumblr media
Dex sees Lady X and mutters "Of all the produce bars in all the supermarkets in all the world, she had to walk into mine". This is yet another reference to Casablanca, and it isn't the last either. Of course, in Casablanca Rick says "gin joints" and "towns in all the world" and he isn't a cartoon cereal dog mourning his raisin girlfriend, but it's a reference nonetheless. Lady X introduces himself to Dex, and this exchange is more or less the same as it is in the movie, save for a few additional lines of dialogue about how Hairy Hold is running the store now.
Tumblr media
Dex and Lady X share some dialogue that isn't in the movie, mainly consisting of a whole lot of supermarket-based puns, before they're interrupted by Dan insisting he's Lady X's "sugar daddy". Kaptain Krispy points out there's something suspicious about Lady X and Brand X as a whole, leading the two to an argument. There are a few additional lines of dialogue here- Dex acknowledges Krispy's had a rough day, but asks that he doesn't take his anger out on Dan. There's honestly very few scenes in this novelization without some kind of extra dialogue that wasn't in the movie, and I've gotta say in almost every instance it adds something to the plot.
Tumblr media
The argument continues with Lady X's comment about "things getting sour" between the sugar and salt Ikes, and Dex saying this isn't a "condiment conspiracy". Neither of these lines are in the movie, but the rest of the scene is more or less unchanged. Krispy is upset his bag was stomped by Mr Clipboard (that was like FOUR chapters ago, come on now) and the entire Copabanana explodes in a bar fight. In the movie Dan yells "Foodfight!" in a Suicide-Squad style title drop before brawling, but that isn't present here.
Tumblr media
Dex picks up a barstool to join the fight, only to find Polar Penguin is sitting atop it. He declares the party's over, and everyone clears out. There's an additional few lines here where Maximilius is about to throw Dan out of the club and he pleads to be let go, but otherwise the scene is mostly the same as it is in the film.
Tumblr media
Dan and Lady X head out of the club together, and the chapter draws to a close. I've gotta say, the changes in this novelization have really made Foodfight! a lot more enjoyable so far. The additional scenes, the altered dialogue and the absent sexual humor really make for a much better experience overall. Obviously the novelization has a huge advantage due to it just being the written word as opposed to the absolute eyesore of the finished film, but regardless it still feels vastly superior. I'm actually really enjoying this version of the story! Anyway, see you next time for Chapter 8!

On Denial
Warning: Long read.
EDIT: Edited out bits here, posted as its own fic.
As much as I like Tears of Themis, this being my first otome game I found it hard to suspend disbelief that Rosa could practically date all four male leads at the same time without the complications of jealousy and competition between the men. Which resulted in this fic here.
This is mostly inspired by this wonderful translation by @vynegar (CN content spoiler, don't click if you're gunning for future Vyn SSR cards and want to avoid spoilers). Which sort of made canon Vyn's volatile nature under that cool facade. It's so fun to write about.
Pairing: Vyn x MC. Artem x MC tried but failed here (sorry, Artem fans)
"Accept this file request," Artem said with a swipe on his tablet. "Marius has provided notes on the missing person cases around the CBD in the past three weeks."
Rosa accepted the file and quickly scanned the contents. "As expected there was an increase after it was made known that the police was on to them." She pointed at a certain blip in the line chart displayed in the digital worktable between her and her senior partner.
Both of them agreed to report for work that day in the NXX Headquarters instead of their offices in Themis Law in order to review documents that they couldn't, and shouldn't outside the headquarters.
Rosa found herself yawning then stopped when she noticed Artem looking at her. "Ah, sorry," she quickly covered her mouth. "I've been sleeping late for the past few days."
"The reason why I have adjusted your workload is so you could allocate some time for your reviews, Rosa," Artem said, sternly. "So that you will be well rested for the next day when you're at work."
He put his tablet down and crossed his arms. "I don't want to pry, but," Artem paused, as if struggling to find the words he wanted to say.
"I noticed that you have been...working with Vyn for the past weeks or so more often."
"Well, yes," Rosa nodded. "I've been tapped as his teaching assistant. It was the only way I could sit in his classes and listen into his lectures."
"No, apart from that." Artem shook his head. "You've been going along with his own...investigations."
"Yes?" That was true, after all. "I've been assisting him with gathering and organizing the data. Also," Rosa quickly said as she browsed through her folders in her tablet, displaying the files that she have collected herself during the course of accompanying Vyn. "I believe that the case he's currently handling is related to this one. I'm going to hand the report to you once I'm finished with analysis and annotations." She pushed her tablet towards Artem.
Artem didn't bother looking at her tablet, but instead with a low voice said, "I know I told you to mind what you are saying around him."
"But that was because I didn't know him yet then, right?"
"That's partially true. But,"
"But?" Rosa prompted.
"Is he making you...forcing you to do anything?" Artem's eyes are looking intently at her, as if trying to observe how she would react to his question.
"Dr. Richter?" Rosa shook her head. "No, of course not. If anything I am the one troubling him. To be honest he doesn't need any assistance..."
"Then why have you been with him for these past few weeks?" Artem asked, almost accusingly.
Because I wanted to be with him, Rosa would have said if she could tell the truth. "If you listened to what I've been saying, Artem, I am exploring the possibility of both this case and the one he's handling to be related."
"Even at night?"
Shocked, Rosa found herself at a loss for words. Crap. He's finally caught on.
"You haven't answering my calls at night since almost a month ago, so I got worried," Artem fiddled with his phone to display all the missed calls to her. "It didn't take much to figure out you've been with him all this time--"
A familiar voice cut in from a distance. "If you will talk about me behind my back, make sure you do it quietly and not inside my property."
Footsteps resounded as Vyn walked towards them.
"Well," he said as his cold gaze locked into Artem's, "Care to start the inquisition from the beginning so I know what you are accusing us of?"
Artem wordlessly glowered at Vyn. Then came his question.
"Rosa, are you in a...relationship with him?"
What seemed to be a long, drawn out period of silence followed.
"Prying into her personal life now?" Vyn said in acerbic tones.
"I am asking my partner, not you."
Rosa's nails dug deeply into her palms.
"I...don't know what you are talking about, Artem," she said, the wavering in her voice almost imperceptible. "To be honest, I am offended that this has been asked at all." She looked up at Artem angrily, despite her words being calm and measured. "And you should apologize to Dr. Richter too."
Rosa looked to Vyn, but he did not show any reaction.
"I'll leave it at that, then," Artem muttered as he picked up his things from the digital workstation. "I'll see you later at the office." He left the headquarters with nary another word.
Silence followed.
Rosa tried to reach for Vyn's hand, but before she could touch him he turned his back on her and walked away.
"Do you have any more business here, Rosa?" Vyn's voice was devoid of emotion. "If not, it would be best if you followed your partner."
"Vyn?"
He stopped and looked at her over his shoulder. "If you have work to do here, then I shall be taking my leave."
"Vyn, wait!" Rosa protested. "What's wrong?"
"What is wrong?" This time he turns around to look at her in the eye with only coldness in his gold eyes. "You ask me, when you have very clearly denied our relationship in front of him, and act as if the suggestion of that very thing was a grave offense on your person. As if the very idea of being with me is disgusting."
"Wait, let me explain--"
"There is nothing to explain, there is nothing in your words that are open to interpretation," Vyn interrupted in clipped tones, as if he was scolding a student.
"Vyn, please, if you could just let me--"
This time, a flash of anger shadowed his face. "Enough. Your words already cut me deep."
"..."
"Tsk. I've had enough myself. I'm leaving." Rosa grabbed her things and slung her bag over her shoulder, as she strode past Vyn towards the door.
===
Rosa was nursing an already cold cup of coffee in the pantry when Kiki approached her. "Hey...are you okay?"
The junior looked around to see if anyone was within earshot. All clear.
"Did you fight with Artem?" she whispered.
"No, not really," Rosa said, listlessly drawing circles on the table. "Stuff just came up."
Kiki was obviously not convinced with what she said. "Look...I know you probably don't want to talk about it yet, but..." she squeezed Rosa's arm to reassure her friend. "Let me know when you need to, okay?"
Rosa smiled weakly. "Yeah, I will. Thanks Kiki, you're an angel."
"Oh darn, here comes Artem," Kiki whispered suddenly, throwing her a worried glance.
"Could you drop by my office for a bit?" Artem said curtly, then walked out of the pantry.
Rosa took a deep breath and stood up to follow him.
===
The partners remained quiet until Artem closed the door of his office behind them.
He cleared his throat. "Rosa, I apologize for my behavior back in the headquarters this morning."
Rosa said nothing as she crossed her arms.
"I was only concerned about you," Artem sighed. "I was afraid that...that..." his voice trailed off.
"Concerned, to the point that you are almost stalking me at night?" Rosa couldn't help but take a snipe at him.
"Because it's not like you to go completely dark after you leave the office!" Artem said loudly, as if he finally let out something that weighed heavily in his chest. "All those times, I waited for you to either come back to the office so I can take you home, or return my calls...but ever since you've been with...with him..."
"Those are already my personal hours, Artem," Rosa reminded him. "Also, whatever did Dr. Richter do to deserve this much suspicion?"
He looked away. "Vyn is competent, yes. He is one of the experts in his field, yes. But nobody knows what he's thinking most of the time," he took a deep breath to calm himself down.
"Not a lot of people even know who he actually is." Artem took his seat by his desk. "Frankly speaking, he isn't to be trusted."
You mean you oppose him just because you two couldn't see eye to eye about your mentor, Rosa badly wanted to say, but thought the better of it.
There were so many things that Rosa wanted to say to him, but decided not to. She didn't want to drive a wedge between them unnecessarily, but a line must be drawn. After much deliberation, she said,
"I can't claim to know how deep your distrust is of Dr. Richter, but I have long decided that he is worthy of my trust. If you're not satisfied with my judgment, then feel free to rethink if I'm still worthy to be your partner."
This made Artem look up at her. "Rosa...?"
Rosa made her way towards the door. Before opening it, she added,
"Also, whether or not I am in a personal relationship with anyone should be none of your business."
===
Rosa once again deleted the draft of her text message to Vyn before sending it for the umpteenth time.
It's no use, she groaned inwardly in frustration. I don't even know what to write to him.
She threw her phone onto her bed. Then let herself fall face down onto the bed as well.
Ah, I'm so tired. Maybe things will sort themselves out tomorrow.
Tomorrow. Rosa frowned, her face still plastered into her bedsheets. I still don't want to see Artem...
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her phone's ring tone. Rosa's hand grabbed it to see who was calling, and almost dropped the phone. Vyn!
"Hello?" she said as she accepted the call.
No one was speaking from the other end of the line. Rosa double checked if the call was still active. It was.
"Hello? Vyn, can you hear me?"
Still nothing from the other end, except a rustling of movement, then a faint crashing of what sounded like glass.
"Vyn, what's wrong? Answer me!" Rosa shouted into her phone's receiver.
Oh no. Rosa hurriedly changed out of her pajamas and immediately called for a taxi as soon as she got out of her apartment building.
===
"Vyn!"
The door to his house was unlocked, and what greeted her was the sorry sight of Vyn lying face down on his sofa, one hand clutching his phone.
There was a red splotch of liquid on the floor near him, which alarmed Rosa. However upon closer inspection it turned out to be not blood, but red wine that spilled from the shattered wine glass on the floor.
Rosa gingerly avoided stepping on the glass shards as she crossed the distance to where he lay. "Vyn," she shook his shoulder gently.
The man stirred and lifted his face to look at her with bleary eyes. "Rosa..." he groaned and quickly shut his eyes, as if blinded by the lights the ceiling above him. "...what are you doing here?"
"You called me, don't you remember?"
"No, I don't..." came the slurred reply. He was no doubt drunk.
"Vyn, you're clearly uncomfortable there, let me help you up to your room..."
"I can get up by myself." Vyn struggled to push himself up the sofa, but failed. "This sofa should suffice for now."
Rosa was having none of it. "No. Let's get you to bed now." She took hold of one of his arms and slung it across her shoulders, pulling him to an upright position.
His bedroom was upstairs. Oh boy, this will be a tough one, she thought and steeled herself for the arduous task of half carrying the man to his bed.
===
It was already morning when he came to.
He tried to tug at the blanket to cover his shoulders and sleep more, but it didn't budge. When he turned around, he was surprised to see Rosa sleeping soundly beside him. The other end of the blanket was pinned underneath her.
Vyn groaned. His head was clear, and he was not hung over. He had a vague recollection of what he did last night: he probably had imbibed more alcohol than he could tolerate while he was mulling the events of yesterday morning.
As for Rosa's presence, he could not remember why she was there, sleeping on his bed. I thought I clearly stated what I said that time.
The bed shifted gently beside him.
"Are you awake?" came Rosa's soft voice.
"Yes, I am," he replied, not looking at her.
"How are you feeling?"
"Much better."
"I'm glad."
"Why are you here?"
"You dialed my number but you did not talk when I answered your call. I got worried so I came."
"I see. I am sorry for the trouble I caused you."
"I cleaned up last night. You drank two full bottles of wine."
"I think I did, yes."
"Please don't. You worried me back there." A hand reached out to hold his.
Suddenly the feelings came crashing down again. Despite himself, tears rolled down his cheeks, and he turned away from Rosa.
The bed shifted again. Rosa moved to gently wipe away his tears with her fingers. She hugged him from behind. "I'm sorry," she whispered gently to his ear.
He said nothing.
"I felt that I had to hide our relationship from others," Rosa said quietly, her voice low. "I didn't want to cause friction in the group.
"I'm not oblivious, you know? I've known this entire time that Artem...Artem carried a torch for me. I knew that if everyone else knew we were together, it would just cause certain...complications."
Vyn finally found his voice. "Ah. But you would continue your little charade with Artem then, leading him on, because it is convenient? And what we have is not?" His voice was choked up.
"No. That wasn't my intention." Rosa hugged him tightly. "But you do have a point. It was wrong of me."
Rosa gently pulls on his shoulder. "Vyn. Please look at me?"
After taking a deep breath, Vyn turns toward her, revealing his tear-streaked eyes. He smiled derisively at himself. "As you can see, I am actually very weak and vulnerable when it comes to you." His lips twisted in a mirthless grin. "You may laugh at me."
The scene was heart-wrenching for Rosa.
"Vyn, I already made my choice long ago," she whispered as she held his face in her trembling hands. "I chose you.
"When you confessed, I accepted your feelings. When you took my first time, I willingly gave myself to you."
Rosa planted a kiss on Vyn's lips.
She sat up and caressed his cheek, and smiled. "Will you let me show you my feelings this time?"
===
Rosa returned to the office from her lunch break when she noticed a small gathering crowding around the door to Artem's office.
"Rosa!" Kiki called out to her, panicking.
"Kiki?" Rosa gestured towards Artem's office. "What's happening there?"
"That... foreign-looking doctor dropped by and...and..." Kiki fumbled over her words. She apparently forgot Vyn's name.
"And...?" Rosa prodded.
"They've been fighting in the office ever since!"
"What?!" Rosa threw her purse onto the desk and was about to run into Artem's office when the door suddenly opened, almost hitting one of the onlookers.
Out emerged Vyn from the doorway, straightening his tie as he strode away. His usually crisp white coat was creased in places and had what seemed to be strands of carpet lint clinging onto its immaculate white fabric. As if he just came from a brawl.
He spotted Rosa, and with a soft, gentle smile he walked briskly towards her.
Everyone on the floor watched in rapt attention the way Vyn placed a chaste kiss on her cheek in greeting, his wispy silver strands mingling with her auburn hair. "Good day, my love," he said.
The solemn hush that fell around them ensured that everyone heard what he just said loud and clear.
As if proclaiming his victory.
"Uh. Yeah." Rosa blinked in confusion.
The door to Artem's office slammed open once again. This time Artem showed up. "Vyn Richter," he growled. He was in almost the same condition Vyn was in: slightly disheveled clothing, crooked tie.
Vyn coolly gave him a side-eye in response.
"If you put my partner in harm's way even only once," he said loudly, "I will. Personally come for you."
"I know."
Then, to Rosa, "I must take my leave now. I will see you later."
Dazed, all Rosa could do was nod. "Mm. See you later."
The silence permeated the entire office until Vyn finally went out through the main door.
Rosa buried her face in her hands, hiding her blush in the midst of all the resulting commotion around her.

Note
for the character asks vyn diluc lumine and kaeya!!
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE thank you for giving me the chance to talk about my blorbos!!!
vyn richter:
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
yeah i bolded the who? one don't worry about it!! /j anyways yeah i Like this man a normal amount its not like ive written sm threads on him already yeah. i'm completely normal
except i'm NOT
i started out thinking my fave would be artem cus vyn seemed too pretentious for me at first and i still have trauma from the last time i liked a white haired and golden eyed guy in otome cus that bitch disappointed me so much i literally can't even look at him without going >:T
he's such a cool character to me, i love how contradictory he is while being completely consistent characterization wise. by contradictory i don't mean that he doesn't say what he mean or doesn't mean what he says, but the way he views himself vs how he views rosa vs how he views other people (derogatory) is quite ironic. i love how he loves rosa because she's beautiful both inside and out, in the sense that she is straight laced, honest and not mired with existential or moral complexities that stop her from being kind, realistic and faithful to her values. (in fact, when facing those moral complexities, her true character shines more because of the way she isn't stagnated by indecision or analysis-paralysis. but that's another talk for another day i could literally go on and on about her)
i like it a lot because he's both a bit of rosa in him and a bit of the cynical jadedness he dislikes in other people. as a doctor, he wants to cure his patients, and he secretly harbours some hope, at the back of his mind, that people are better than he thinks they are, that when presented the opportunity for change and growth they'll choose it— which is why i think he "tests'" rosa in his stories so much. cus he wants to see a diff outcome come from her!! to him, i feel like there's a bit of him idealism projected onto her, smth like saying: "i tried and failed, but i want to see how you do it, and what new thing you'll show me with your way of doing things." in ideals and visions, he relates to rosa.
however, in many ssr stories, and even one sr (the iconic false tears story) he shows the pettiest and most spiteful parts of himself that he's tried to keep hidden from rosa, where he indulges his egocentric beliefs that makes him feel like the things he's doing are justified, as long as the end goal is a positive net of "justice" in the world. he also sometimes shows how incredibly judgemental and harsh he can be, because he always thinks he knows better and is more objective / morally superior than other people he dislikes. in practice and methodology, he relates to the people he dislikes. it's like a mirror that shows the ugliest parts of himself. if he dislikes them like any other normal person would dislike an asshole and then move on with their life, why would that be such a big psychological trigger for him? it clearly means more to him than he tries to hide, so he tries to make a clear line separating his own "cruelty" and other people's "cruelty" and how he's better than them cus he had the right intentions in mind.
(that's not how it works btw babygirl. but issokay ur kinda fucked up i'd like to put u under a microscope)
i like how he slowly comes to realise that contradiction, too. not verbally said, but i interpret his recent growth in stories as someone who knows he's "ugly" inside and filled contempt for everyone—although sometimes he dresses his actions in a more gentlemanly or "fair" so that it's still TECHNICALLY the right thing to do even if the way he did it was unethical. at first their relationship progression was "i want her to see the most impressive parts of me" > "i want her to rely on and be influenced by me" > "i want her to know my feelings but only the ones that are peer reviewed to be palatable" > "i want her to see me for who i am and accept me, even if i can't accept the entire truth of myself". and i think that fuckign ROCKS
concluding statement: if the road to hell was paved with good intentions vyn is building a freeway. but rosa is changing his lanes!!! she changed my lanes too if u know what i mean wink wink nudge nudge
anyways yeah im mentally sound and in perfect health about vynrosa why do you ask
diluc ragnvindr:
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
i like him!!! iirc he was my second 5* after jean? and then i used him as a dps for a while! i wish they gave him fluffier or longer hair. i think in game diluc doesn't really do enough justice to his characterization or lore bc i feel like he looks a bit "bland" in story execution compared to the other charas. oh well, virtues and vices of being an early game chara! i like him best when he's in big brother mode and i cannot thank fanartists enough who portray him being a good big bro to the kids like klee, diona, bennett, fischl and razor. i love it!!!
lumine:
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
she's so goddamn FUNNY and cute?????? i like the progression of her character and her growing into her own personality in the recent quests, i think they wrote it really well. have you listened to her voice lines where she talks w paimon? they show sm of her personality and she's just so... witty and dry and sarcastic but her voice is so soft that it makes u double-back and go, "sorry, run that by me again?" i love her sm. although, i don't really interact w the fandom a lot because they're very noisy in hating her for some reason. and it gets tiring to hear TwT i get my lumine food from anng rt'ing stuff on twt or on tumblr! consuming fandom the exact way it was intended: i only see what my friends will share w me!!!
kaeya alberich:
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
another case of sadly being an early game chara so his execution was a bit sloppy TwT his lore is so funkin cool and his personal story and how he got his vision was, imo, the coolest and most emotionally impactful out of everyone else? ofc he and shenhe shares similar patterns in their history and how they were treated, but i think it hits harder for me bc like. GOD. overridden by guilt for the death of diluc's dad, he confronts him and tells him the truth of who he is. and at the emotional height of his life where diluc turns to fight him, he's given a vision if only to protect himself and his heart so that he can still go on and fulfill whatever "destiny" his dad had marked out for him, if he chooses that as his right.
i still think its meaningful bc even in game diluc never shows any signs that he genuinely, truthfully, dislikes kaeya. so while they still have this unspoken history between them that neither of them seem willing to talk about, there's a nostalgic and sad feeling of people who drifted apart brushing by each other time and again, and silently forgiving the other but not making it known at all. i can't find it rn but there's sm diluc and kaeya comics where its all about sibling hurt / comfort and reconciliation and making it known that they care about each other verbally, instead of accepting it as is in actions, bc they're hesitant to break the ice. GOD

hi sam!! i love reading your analysis stuff, i come back to them all the time and. not to mention your grip on artem's chara is amazing. so my question is if artem and rosa were to have an arguement that wasnt work related (like we saw in his personal story) what do you think it would be about? :00
hI NONNIE!! ksnclksn thank you for reading my analysis stuff!! im really happy you like them!! but to answer your question, i think artem would handle an argument with a loved one a bit differently! and i'll be pulling from canon to make my deductions :D without further ado
how artem wing (probably) argues with a loved one
we know artem has had 'disagreements' with three people that we've seen: rosa, neil, and marius. all of these happened for 'work-related reasons' though marius' argument is a bit rawer bc it has to deal with people he loves (neil) so that's the one we're gonna start with! even if it is more about work because he's a lot more invested emotionally it should give us a good idea of how he works as well as him being 'attacked'
in episode 5.1, where MC/Rosa gets to go to the nxx headquarters, artem and marius start arguing about the disappearance of neil and giann. its 'a common occurrence' according to vyn, but we cant assume much bc we don't know if artem is the instigator or if its marius. what we can assume is that he doesnt leave things without resolution or at least indulges the other party in arguing with them.
we do know that artem is able to concede to points being made but also uses logic as well as facts to counter said points, which is a very lawyer thing to do. but he's also able to disengage quickly. in the argument he's able to walk away, saying he 'doesnt have time to argue with the prodigal son' right? so he's able to know when an argument is 'a waste of time'. so we know he:
doesnt let things die
is able to walk away
uses logic and facts
and that's just marius lmaooo
now the quick argument with neil is more of a work thing, just like rosa, so we should be able to compare some argument tactics. he's pretty passionate about things (re: recording neil has, him scolding rosa/mc) but he is able to see the other side, even if it takes him time to see it. he does acknowledge that he was wrong on some aspects but does not fully put the blame on himself if its a mutual thing. so he's fair when it comes to arguments.
so based on all of this, along with the main argument from his chapter 2 personal story, we can come up with a probable image of how he is in an actual argument.
i'd assume he'd come off as cold and calculating first, willing to get rosa/mc to see his side of the argument. he'd be willing to go for a bit. i think this is more because he's a lawyer, it'd be engrained in his mind. treating every argument as a debate in court: cold and calculating. and should the argument start getting heated he would be the first to walk away so that the situation would cool off.
where rosa/mc start to cry, i feel like he'd react the same way he did in canon, he'd flail and try to fix the immediate problem. however, i think if the same argument were to come back on again, he would pick up right where he left off.
and a couple of posts back a nonnie mentioned that arguing with lawyers sucks, so i'd assume they treat a lot of arguments as a court trial so,,, yeah! i hope this was a fun read!!

Dragnet - Chapter 9 - Kingdom of Thieves.
Read on Ao3
Thank you to those of you that are still reading Dragnet! In previous chapters Kogami and Akane conducted a mission that resulted in technology malfunctioning, suspicions arising and Akane almost getting killed. Kogami broke up their short-lived (or so he thinks) association for reasons and emotions still confusing to him. Here’s Chapter 9:
KINGDOM OF THIEVES
Pliable, suspiciously warm, the sofa's leather cushions in the analysis lab sank underneath Kogami's weight, comfort suffusing his tense limbs like an anxiolytic. Undoubtedly, Kunizuka had made a routine pitstop here prior to heading to the interrogation room with Ginoza for another round of fruitless grilling. Which would explain the mellow, secret melody Shion was humming as she typed away on her keyboard. At least someone in Division 1 was having fun. Banished from the interrogation room and having severed the only connection he had to that other world, lulls of silent anticipation such as this had become nearly intolerable for him because, like a stray dog, his mind would go—insistently, shamelessly—back to her.
If only his ruminations had been centered in the pragmatic aspects of their relationship (what was her exact link to the syndicates? When did it start? And why?), he could have forgiven himself more easily. But it was the way his name sprung from her direct mouth, and how it meant she was not cross with him (as opposed to Inspector), and that furrowed brow each time she sermonized about things not unlike those he’d spend hours perusing in books—things he had strictly forbidden himself to linger on; things he’d never dream to speak about out loud. It was her scrutiny, never sub rosa. Not when she looked at him with unabashed eyes, not searching for a weakness or a fault—he suspected—but for something like a virtue, something that would warrant their unlikely partnership in her eyes.
So what did it mean for him to be sitting here while she was still out there, meandering in the dark? Stubbornly continuing this, insisting on this, and she would lose more than her hue. Kogami palmed the cellphone inside his pocket and then thought better of it because—what right did he have to care? To ask anything from her? Who was he in her life but an accident of chance? Or, perhaps, had his threats managed to compel her, and had she gone back to an ordinary life where she didn’t want to change the world? No, he thought sullenly. Even I know that about you. But it’s not like you’re alone either, is it, Tsunemori? Not that it makes you any safer.
On a large screen, a corner-side vantage of the dark interrogation room. Light spilled from a lamp above onto a table as a cuffed man swaggered in like a circus bear that's figured out the master's whip is made of hay. A braggart's smirk splashed across his face as he flumped on a chair. Kogami perched his elbows on his legs, interlaced hands under his nose to summon all his objective focus on the screen, but all he could think about was how much he'd love to pummel that sneer off again.
"A different species of inspector today," proclaimed the Arumajiro man, all affected bravado to Gino's bespectacled, sober professionalism. Still bearing the marks Tsunemori had gouged on his tattooed skin, he slammed his arms on the table, presumably to stir a wince from Ginoza, who only blinked with imperturbable disdain. "And you even brought a woman to protect you. That a habit of Sibyl's dogs?"
"The type of technology found in the interior of the truck you and your comrades were riding on is not something that can be built with metal scraps scavenged from Ougishima,” Gino said with no inflection in his voice. "Who is funding your association?"
The man acknowledged the question with a caustic snort for answer, a sort of growl. His eyes slithering over the less illuminated corners of the room—methodically, as if searching for something.
“He’s watching, ain’t he?” he eventually muttered. “He wouldn’t miss this.”
"You'll have enough time to look at walls when you go to the isolation facility. No need to strain your eyes so hard on these,” Gino spat back. “Answer the question. Your syndicate knew about the crackdowns by the MWPSB. How did you acquire a signal jammer? Who programmed it?"
"Inspectors in the blocks," the man began in a low voice. "You lot stick out like a pack of wild hens running around with your dominators. Of course, everyone always knows when you're there, with your holos and your drones. You’re not exactly low-key, you know? The eyes of Sibyl might see us only when they want to, but we’re always watching.”
"And so your syndicate figured they'd try to go undetected and invest on an illegal piece of technology impossible to acquire within the abolition blocks.”
"Impossible,” the man echoed as if mulling the meaning of the word. As if, Kogami thought, what a Sibyl detective would deem impossible, even preposterous in his world, was something that acquired a different value where he came from. A perverse grimace spread on the man’s face, a sort of smiling frown full of certitude. "Nothing is impossible in the abolition blocks. Not anymore.”
“Not exactly a charmer when he finally decides to talk, is he?” Shion drawled with a slow plume of smoke, her profile silhouetted by blue light in the haze. “What could he possibly mean?”
"At least he's taunting us now,” Kogami murmured dryly. “But I don’t perceive urgency in his behavior. No negotiation or surrender. If he’s decided to talk it must be for more than dull temporizing, though I don’t think his objective is to necessarily give us what we want.”
“Hmm. Who knows.” Shion gave an affected gasp. “Could it be he likes Ginoza better?”
Kogami chuckled softly, and Shion smiled, proud of herself. He figured he probably had been looking as dismal as he felt.
“Definitely,” he acknowledged with a cool sigh, lifting himself up from the softness of the sofa, and starting to hanker for a smoke. He shoved the flaps of his navy windbreaker aside and thrust his hands in the pockets of his pants. “Gino can be a darling when he wants to. But I should head over there now. Might as well put some pressure now he’s talking.”
“I thought Ginoza said—”
“I know. I know he instructed all of you to keep me at bay. But this case might be bigger than we think and I can’t just wait idly by.”
Shion exhaled coolly, swiveling her chair toward her station again. “Very well. Just be careful.”
Freely, brashly for an interrogation, the man went on blathering on the screen. “But impossible things have been happening. People disappearing. Tunnels hidden behind holo. Miracles, even. The last of which involved a woman intercepting a truck in the tunnels, armed with nothing but a bat—so what I’ve been wondering is, how did the excellent and competent MWPSB get a double-crossing bitch to do their job for them?”
Doors glided open in front of him as Kogami’s step came to a standstill. Jaw clenching, he whirled round to face the grainy image of the man again.
“You’d do well to remember I’m the one asking questions here,” Ginoza retorted impatiently, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “This isn’t an exchange of particulars between two commensurate parties. This is an interrogation, and your time is running out.”
The man leaned in over the table and Kunizuka’s back went upright, her hand circling around her waist as a warning. “You see,” he said. “I can’t help but be intrigued as to how a single woman gained the trust of the underground resistance and helped them against the syndicates, all while working with the police.”
Kogami stiffened. Was that the reason behind Tsunemori’s ironclad secrecy? Did the man not kill her only because he was working information out of her? Even if Kogami had entertained a similar notion before—with her overt spurning of the system and her criminal consorts—something in him refused to admit that she could be, for lack of a better word, his enemy. But if what was being said was true, then the accusations he’d hurled at her—the same ones that had been tormenting him since he’d said them—may have been wholly understating.
“Justice for traitors and informers, know what that is? That wretched girl hanging from a wire in the ports of Ougishima where anyone else with funny ideas can see. Or worse—No. Better—her chained to a bed in the filth of a brothel. See that pretty hue turn black.” The man spoke slowly but without pause, in his visage a pained expression that evoked menace in lieu of sorrow. “Imagine, if you can, in a place crawling with people both desperate to cleanse their sins and itching for something unsullied to defile, just what coveted merchandise a clear-hued Sib would be. Not just any Sib, no. A plant by the MWPSB. A traitor. Hell, for all we know it might be her own people that get her first.”
With clenched fists, Kogami made his way back toward the screen. It wasn’t that the man’s tirade didn’t incense him greatly, considering to whom his poisoned darts were being aimed. But there was something else: the fact that he spoke as if he wasn’t in Sibyl’s claws. In his claws.
“That brat is too smart for her own good. Messing with things she don’t understand. Stealing things that don’t belong to her. Out of all the crummy chumps the so-called resistance has produced, this one might be the trickiest one. Should’ve snuffed her out when I had the chance.”
“This resistance,” Ginoza cleared his throat, “is it an anti-governmental group?”
The man stared superciliously, almost amused. “You Sibs think the blocks are seedbeds of chaos where the scum of society oozes like a weeping blister in your clean world. It’s not for me to deny it. I’ve seen men rip out each other’s guts over a cigarette. I’ve slain many more myself, men and women, for less than that. Why? You worried the pus might spill onto your streets? You afraid hearing these things will make you catch that disease?” A spark of relish in his eye. “What if I told you there’s a cure for that?”
“A—a cure? A cure for what?”
“The illness of evil—the illness the Sibyl system diagnosed for the rest of us. In fact, I’ll prove it to you right now,” the man invited with an almost affable tone. “Point your dominator at me.”
“What? What are you talking abou—H-Hound 2! No one ordered you to withdraw your dominator!”
Kunizuka, arm fully extended next to Ginoza’s face, had her sights aimed directly at the space between the eyebrows of the Arumajiro man. “I’m sorry, Inspector. This is the only language men like these speak.” A heavy mute second was filled with Ginoza’s eyes flitting from the dominator, to the man, back to Kunizuka until at last, haltingly, she lowered her arm and her jaw dropped with shock. “Th-There has to be a mistake. We checked his hue this morning and it was—a-and besides, he just said—”
Kogami didn’t wait to hear the rest. He bolted out of the analysis lab and down the corridor in the direction of the emergency stairs. His mind raced. One victim found dead in a factory. A second victim mauling herself to death in Nona Tower. Disparate timelines and intervals in both casualties, as if the pill’s dual mechanism could be detonated at a distance, at will. It made no sense. He hurtled down endless flights of stairs many floors below, gnawing despair lodged deep in his stomach. He’d seen him strangling her. He’d tried to drown him. No doubt he was a murderer. It couldn’t be. Nausea and doom had overtaken him by the time he tore past the doors of the last hallway and turned the last corner, silvered walls bouncing all around him as he caught sight of his mark leaving the interrogation room behind Ginoza and Kunizuka. He couldn’t see or hear until his hands were on the man. Until he felt other hands trying to pull him away.
“Shepherd 2! Get a hold of yourself!” Ginoza thundered, forcefully jostling against him. “Stop this right now! Kogami!”
“You fucking bastard,” Kogami growled, both hands yanking the manacled Arumajiro man by his threadbare shirt. “You know about the pill. You know what it is. You’re gonna tell me everything even if I have to kick it outta you!”
“Seems like someone’s found the antidote to Sibyl,” the tottering man hissed back, reveling in Kogami’s stunned expression. “Whatever it is you want to call it.”
“Yeah?” Kogami’s grip was taut on the collar around the man’s neck. “Then you must know about its side effects. Does that make you smile also?”
“I’d be more worried about that hue of yours, Inspector. I’d even go as far as advising you to choose your friends and allies wisely. Before she ruins you.”
A sobering shudder ran through Kogami.
“Search for her,” he rasped with bared teeth, “touch her again, and I swear I’ll find you and kill you with my own hands!”
“That’s enough of that!” Masaoka shouted from somewhere. Next thing he knew, Sasayama was there too, shouldering his way between them, tearing Kogami off as Kunizuka and Gino pulled the man away. Still, Kogami shoved and kicked and cursed as the man crossed the threshold of a door shutting closed, and then his vision went askew as a sharp pain had him hunching down and looking at the ground, immobilized.
“You need to cool down, son.” Masaoka tightened his armlock and Kogami heard himself pant helplessly, his forehead beading with sweat.
“Don’t you realize,” Kogami grunted through the pain, “that’s the one lead we have in this case?”
“And what good will it do if you end up in a rehabilitation facility?” Sasayama’s shoes came into view and Kogami was just able to shift his head up to shoot a glare at him. “How is pulling this bullshit gonna help you catch him then?”
There was the slow squeak and hush of a door opening and closing again.
“I hope you know this is all your influence, Sasayama,” Ginoza roared. “And if you think I won’t have a few words to say about you in the report of this incident, then you’re awfully misguided.” Masaoka loosened the grip of his metallic arm, and Kogami yanked his own free. He straightened up to meet the withering, unforgiving gaze of his partner. “Masaoka, go assist Kunizuka in the discharge of the witness. Kogami, you and I need to talk.”
“Gino, we can’t let him go,” Kogami protested with a gruff voice. “You saw what just happ—”
“Would you rather we do this in the presence of the Chief?”
Kogami squeezed his eyes shut, attempting to steady himself, but rage still boiled inside of him. “Fine,” he grumbled with frustration. “Fine.”
---------
Outside of Nona Tower the sun had set but the city was blazing like it was the middle of the day. A shine as artificial as that of the abolition blocks, though sleeker, clearer, new. Not the dizzying red and yellow twilights that led the way through the narrower, angular alleys of the abolition blocks, nor the darkened hollows and crannies where eyes and knives glinted. From a holographic billboard the large face of a woman donned in traditional garb gazed at him, her pale face dissolving into a pink forest, carpeted with what looked like pink snow. The next thing he noticed was that there was no distinct smell.
He walked the stretch of the plaza. Guardedly. Drawing near to where another hologram had attracted a multitude, but still keeping a cautious distance, he stood to watch. Three large fish swam in a hoop, floating in sync until one of them broke the formation to playfully pursue the others, making a squealing sound similar to that of rats, but louder and full of delight. Something like a fog, a vague sensation taking form, disturbed him. A nebulous recollection from years ago, of childhood in the blocks. A discoloured picture of animals like these nailed to a cracking wall. A wrinkled old lady calling him evil before falling with a thud. He remembered her body being warm even after he’d withdrawn his knife more times than he could count. The eyes in the eyes of his first kill looking deep into him and then…nothing. It’s cold, he thought, and that’s why I’m shivering. He peered at the crowd. Oblivious onlookers and their marveled profiles. His gaze drifted upwards and behind the surrounding skyscrapers. They didn’t know a few kilometers from here people burned. Soon they would.
He pivoted to two pairs of gawking eyes pegged on him. Youngsters. They approached him with slimy passivity, before gushing admiringly.
“Woah, mister, you really went out of your way with that cosplay! See? I told you the tattoos weren’t holo!”
“Of course they’re holo! How do you think he’d show to work with those tattoos? But isn’t the convention until next February though? If it was today I’m sure he’d win first prize!”
He snarled at the two pests, which only seemed to excite them more. A flashing light blinded him for a second, and before he could curse them out, they were scuttling away. It was then he took notice of the woman wearing a red long coat standing beside him.
“Do you actually know where you’re going, Igarashi-san?”
Unblemished skin. Long, silky hair. Almond eyes evenly shaped with a strange green sheen to them, and a thin, pointy nose. An enigmatic smile that could’ve been wider but wasn’t.
“Choe Gu-sung?”
“I knew Makishima-san was right to put his trust in the Arumajiro.”
“Your holo is too perfect,” Igarashi answered with blunt disdain. “No one looks like that.”
“That may be true in the abolition blocks, but as you can see, people love illusions here.”
Minutes later they were driving through the elevated highways of Tokyo. A light rain fell aslant, pins of purple and pink hitting on the windshield of the driverless vehicle. Igarashi kept a wary side-eye on Makishima’s lackey sitting beside him, though underneath that stupid holo he was more unreadable than usual. Not that he didn’t understand how such concealment was necessary for serious matters, but it pissed him off that important work should fall on the lap of a foreigner out of all people.
“I hope your doubts about our plan are settled now, Igarashi-san,” said Choe Gu-sung as if reading his mind, the faintest hint of mockery in his voice.
“Our plan requires certain arrangements we’ll overlook for the moment, but I know the Arumajiro won’t be so sparing afterwards.”
“It’s precisely that ruthlessness that Makishima found so compelling for this project to start with. In this brave new world of Sibyl, few men are willing to go where the Arumajiro go, and so your clan is instrumental for what needs to be done.”
All the sickly ass-licking made Igarashi turn his face toward the city flashing past. “To think you’re the first person to
address me by my name since I was arrested,” he muttered with disgust.
Once they had arrived at the high-rise hotel, an elegant wooden door embellished with the metal knocker of a spider admitted them into a vast suite decked out with fine furnishings. A low gray sofa with plush cushions half-mooned around a glass table where a steaming cup of tea had been set. An open book rested onto the lid of a black piano, and above it, a strange light fixture glittered from the ceiling like a dancing bride. Igarashi was becoming acutely aware of the thick, green rug underneath his tatty boots, but unlike him, the silver-haired man contemplating Tokyo out of the ceiling-to-floor windows fit into the room perfectly. Deceptively.
“I’m glad you made it out safely, Igarashi-san.”
Obscured on the reflection, Makishima’s features betrayed his otherwise harmless semblance as a truer, more sinister face smiled at Igarashi from the glass. Long gone was his first impression of a wealthy, over-spoilt child uttering words of revolution because, where the pointless, clumsy violence of the blocks rose and fell with no consequence or significance, Makishima had given them the means to overthrow an evil bigger than all the gangsters of the underground.
“The MWPSB has an informer in the blocks. That’s how they were able to get us. It’s Lemonade Candy.”
Piqued by his words, Makishima looked briefly over his shoulder. “The mastermind of the resistance works with the MWPSB,” he said, turning again toward the city. “How interesting. It only makes it the more impressive for you to have survived such a predicament, being attacked, as you were, by both sides.”
“It was one of their own group who gave them away. An unregistered who’d worked for Bunzo.” Igarashi’s fingers trailed the soft fabric on the arm of the sofa without daring to sit. “Wanted to settle a score or somethin’. Went mad, and for a moment there I really thought we’d turned the tables on her.”
“Her, you said?”
“Lemonade Candy is a twenty-something woman. Small and thin as a reed. And still the bitch was able to take out our lights singlehandedly and then escape through one of their hidden tunnels. We followed, and for a moment I had her, until an inspector showed up.”
“She ensnared you,” murmured Makishima. “She used herself as bait knowing you’d follow her. What appeared like recklessness at a cursory glance, was a calculated gamble.” He turned around and ambled across the room, feathery and lithe, with hands in his pockets. “We’re not the only ones with the will to choose to bet, it seems.”
Again there was that mysterious smile on Makishima’s lips and, like an obedient disciple, Igarashi felt the irresistible urge to supply more. “The resistance is not our biggest problem. Getting the syndicate to get rid of her now that I’ve seen her should be easy. But there’s also the police. That detective, especially. He don’t seem the type to let go of things.” An ear-to-ear grin spread on his face. “And he’s a hot head for that woman. Nearly slugged me when I mentioned her to him. Threatened to kill me, even.”
“Are they not merely enforcers?”
“No,” Igarashi assured with a sharp shake of his head. “He’s the one who’s been interrogating me. Or trying to, at least. Today I heard his partner refer to him as Kogami. As for the woman…haven’t seen her since that night.”
“Kogami,” Makishima echoed with flash of eagerness in his amber eyes. “Are there still humans in this city who are not afraid of themselves, I wonder? And, if so, is it a coincidence that we happened to lure two of them out of hiding? Is this what the sentimentalist calls ‘destiny’?”
Across from him, Choe Gu-sung ambled over and sat on the other side of the sofa where he opened a laptop. He’d remained so quiet, Igarashi had but completely forgotten about his presence, and his appearance, now devoid of holo, glared like a sour reminder. He began typing something hurriedly.
“They’re vermin—that’s what they are,” crossing his arms, Igarashi commented while looming over Choe. “All those who can’t rise by their own strength deserve to be squashed like roaches. It’s the rule of the world. Eat or be eaten.”
“You know, Igarashi-san,” Makishima lingered by the piano, slowly turning over the pages of the book. “I’ve always admired men like you. The ones who agitate the whole world through the sheer strength of your desire. If the world sings blue, you’ll force it to sing red until it matches your vision. A common man in an uncommon world. Please,” his eyes rose from the page to watch him intently. “Understand that this is the deepest of compliments. You see, in this sterile, plastic world, that type of primal life force has been forgotten. The human animal domesticated, his soul depurated, sterilized, until he became nothing more than the ruins of what he once was—and ruins are only beautiful after a great war. Anything else is…mockery.”
“Well, that’s the way of the blocks. The only way we know. And now, thanks to you, these things will be ours too.” Not until he said it did it seem true to Igarashi—that they would rule over this world just like they ruled over the underground. Dominators, cymatic scanners and drones could not stop them anymore, and the weak children of Sibyl would succumb just like their evil mother. “And even the enemies of the Arumajiro won’t mind it if it means destroying this system.”
“You are correct. Anger has an interesting way of vitalizing people in ways no other need or cause does, notwithstanding how pure or lofty. That vein those spurned by the system share is what the Sibyl system has cut off and anesthetized, to the extent where the masses can’t even recall it ever being there. Their senses lay dormant as if they could truly exist as humans without them. Others even claim to want to live forever. But what value does a life have when it’s benumbed and protected from the knowledge of its own mortality? When it loses all primitive instincts in a beautiful cage where there’s no danger? As in the yesteryear, we need men like you to remind us what it means to be alive.”
In more ways than he could understand, Makishima’s words made Igarashi feel strangely satisfied. Comforted, even. Never before had he thought of his life in any aspect beyond, well, living.  What for was a question that hadn’t occurred to him. But for all the things he’d seen and done, he never would have guessed it’d be this man the one to weave meaning into his life.
“Do you know what intrahistory is, Igarashi-san?”
Choe Gu-sung’s annoying typing made it difficult for him to hear the question. “Huh?”
“Intrahistory,” Makishima continued as he ran his finger down a yellowed page in the book, “Is the history that’s left outside of the books. Think of it as the blank margins on the paper. It’s the story of the nameless people who made history but who are never mentioned. Without them, History with a capital H is unconceivable.”
Igarashi gave a sly smile. “Is that the people from the blocks?”
“Indeed. The men who wrought the world and thrust it forward through blood and fire. You can see why the system made sure we never hear about them. Those who dare to be the actors of their own existence have no need for Sibyl.”
“Like the Arumajiro in the blocks.”
Makishima closed the book carefully. “Like the gladiators who died devoured by the lions under the impassive eyes of an Emperor. Or the soldiers in the vanguard bringing us closer to victory with their sacrifices. The anonymous martyrs who enrage the survivors. The strongest within the strong.”
It was quiet now. Choe Gu-sung had abruptly stopped his noise. A bizarre, undeniable aura of expectation hung in the air. Igarashi swallowed something he’d not felt in years down his parched throat, his mind scrambling to decipher what Makishima was getting at with his incessant blabber.
“Violence can be captivating, even beautiful. But like any art, when it’s empty, it’s hopelessly corrupted and vulgar. You do not need to worry about that, Igarashi-san. I’ll be sure to make your sacrifice meaningful.”
Dread surged in Igarashi like a freezing chill. “What the hell are you talking about?” he murmured. He’d kill the two of them. He could take them both easily, rip them apart with his hands, bludgeon them to death.
With a flourish, Choe Gu-sung made a single clicking sound on his keyboard, and Igarashi felt his body drop and crash into the glass table. A hail storm of white particles infested his vision, followed by a green crooked line and a tea cup rolling on the floor. Beyond that, Makishima’s feet trod toward him with the precision of a ropewalker, and he felt fear.
“I know you don’t like this gruesome part, Choe. You may go.”
Igarashi’s wild eyes tried to meet the mechanical eyes of the hacker, but he couldn’t move because a rumbling began inside his body; his blood boiling and searing and cauterizing from the inside. He clenched his teeth and grunted, his body growing rigid as pain travelled through his veins like a jagged marble—excruciating pain that made it impossible to think on anything except on it being over. With what little mind he had, he started wide-eyed at a slice of a window visible between Makishima’s legs, wishing with all his rotten heart he could jump from it. Then he heard himself howl a beast-like howl over and over again.
“’Alas, what is good and what is evil?’” Makishima said looking down on him. “’Are they both one single thing with which we furiously attest our impotence and passion to attain the infinite by even the maddest means? Or are they two different things? Yes…they had sooner be one and the same…for if not, what will become of me on Judgement Day?’”

I never really see what Nightmare’s abilities could’ve done to help others. Everyone labels his powers as monstrous, but negativity isn’t always a bad thing, and it’s needed to keep the balance. We also know if you have the power, it doesn’t automatically make you evil, as Nightmare was the guardian of negativity and was a gentle and kind soul before the apple incident.
I genuinely believe Nightmare’s role from the very start was to help people through their grief and let them process their negative emotions rather than suppressing them with positivity. You need to feel those emotions to confront them- but his soothing aura likely assisted with this fight and could’ve allowed people a safe place to let it out. He was supposed to be a comfort. Dream was there to bring joy and play and have fun- never to be the one with soothing tendencies. Nightmare was supposed to have that role, which is why he was so nurturing to Dream. It was in his essence. His whole goal in life was likely to soothe and comfort and yet the villagers beat him.
If we keep the auras and powers in mind, Nightmare was likely so weak towards the apple incident because he was deprived of his literal job and way to fuel his power. All his essence wanted to do was help and comfort and he was given fists. Meanwhile, Dream was being saddled with Nightmare’s responsibilities by being forced to comfort others and smother their sadness with his powers- which likely overworked him and made him confused on his own purpose. Was he really supposed to do everything? He just wanted to play. He just wanted to see happiness, not pain. It hurt him, and he was nothing but exhausted at eight years old.
I like to think little Nightmare did help one person in his time being alive, because the idea that his life was pure misery and deprivation is heartbreaking. A individual who had lost a family member and couldn’t cry. They felt nothing- and wanted to get the whirlwind of emotions out so they wouldn’t feel empty. They came to Nightmare in private, and he held them in a hesitant hug, and they began to bawl due to his aura. ( I can’t remember correctly, but I believe eating the apples was only a sin due to one of the guardians doing it. I believe Dream passed around positivity apples and they were safe to eat, so it would make since that the other side of the balance also was. They just can’t be eaten a LOT. So he could’ve also given them a apple)
They cried for hours, and Nightmare was terrified this would cause this to tell the village and anger them, but when they were done, they let Nightmare go and thanked him. They left with a bitter smile on their face, but a better understanding of their grief.
He had one chance to do what his abilities told him to do, and he loved it.

my check in tagggg
my absolute love @evilovesyou tagged me in this game and it has been a while, but maybe i'm gonna be on a bit more in the next two weeks - lets hope so!!
1. Why did you choose your url?
Okay so I was a TA for this french class when I was in high school, and this kid kept calling me Rosie (yeah yeah @dependsonwhospitching laugh it up) and i COULD NOT figure out why he called me that, and eventually the teacher asked him, and he was like "oh it's bc her name is Bella and she's a Bella Rosa. I'm italian." and like. idk. It's not that I wanted to date the kid or anything, but I didn't feel particularly beautiful then, and I liked knowing that someone thought I was. so as a reminder, my url is "I'm Bella Rosa" haha
2. Any side-blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them.
None that I am using regularly right now! An old magicians one that is no longer in use.
3. How long have you been on tumblr?
uhhhh....5 years? or 4??? around that long
4: Do you have a queue tag?
Absolutely not im not that organized! I don't even have a queue I'm a MESS
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
Because i wanted to be a merlin blog lmaoooo. i still like the fandom but now this is just my personal blog
6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
i like choosing cartoon versions of me!! they look cool and you know who you're talking to that. way.
7. Why did you choose your header?
my header used to be a sunflower, but then i re-vamped my blog and i thought of a convo i had with someone, where they said that if their life was hard, they liked to go see the sea, because it was so vast and free, and i feel the same way, so it's a good reminder that even if life is rough there's a whole world out there lmao
8. Whats your post with the most notes?
You know I actually have no clue? Probably one of my analysis posts though i wish my art had more notes!
9. How many mutuals do you have?
Uh. Is there an actual way to check this? Does this website have a feature I don’t know about?
10. How many followers do you have?
uh around 700 i think. all very cool people, OBVIOUSLY
11. How many people do you follow?
literally thousands. I just click follow if i maybe MIGHT like your content, so my dash is a bit of everything always
12. Have you ever made a shitpost?
i mean...yes probably. yes.
13. How often do you use tumblr a day?
i used to be at home doing school in a pandemic so ALL THE TIME lmao. now my life is a bit more hectic, so like, once a day? but i'm always in my dms if someone texts me
14. Did you once have a fight/argument with another blog once? Who won?
Uh...defo with anons but i've learned to not really engage but idk about another blog i probably have but i don't like to do it a lot.
15. How do you feel about “you need to reblog” posts?
Useless. Stupid. Makes me want to do the exact opposite.
16. Do you like tag games?
Yes!! But I’ve been terrible at keeping up! (stealing evis answer hereeee)
17. Do you like ask games?
Yeah! Especially the writing ones! But honestly any of them are fun! (also stealing evi's answer hereeeee)
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
ummmm...i think i have quite a few? I would count evi defo, but also some other people in various different fandoms and circles but i love them lots as humans not "tumblr famous people" does that make sense??
19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?
@dependsonwhospitching of COURSE
20. Tags?
@foreverfanficaddict @whatagreatproblemtohave @stoptakingmyusernamebro (i ADORE this blog and their username) @queenlokibeth

Fifth Post / Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
Two for one post coming at you HOT! I read these books in rapid succession and, as they are a duology, I figured it makes sense to post about them together. I confess that I am starting to fall behind with my posting... but I refuse to give-up on this self-imposed exercise!!
I’m gonna shake things up a bit here -- rather than follow my usual review format I would like to take this opportunity to present you with my thesis on:
SIX OF CROWS and CROOKED KINGDOM by LEIGH BARDUGO....
Tumblr media
... AS VIEWED THROUGH A BROOKLYN NINE-NINE LENSE.
Tumblr media
SO literally the entire time I was reading these books I couldn’t help but think about the recurring Halloween Heist episodes found in each season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. You know the ones. Six of Crows centers around one big heist, while Crooked Kingdom has a series of heists that are pulled off to varying degrees of success. The key players belong to a gang called The Dregs, and I couldn’t help but notice some striking similarities between the gang members and members of the 99th precinct.
I haven’t done any internet trolling to see if this comparison already exists elsewhere, so apologies in advance if I’m not being as original and clever as I think I’m being. Also shout-out to my friends KC and JC for workshopping this IRON CLAD analysis with me. They confirmed this is legit, and I trust their judgment unwaveringly.
1. Kaz / Captain Holt
Tumblr media
Kaz is the boss of The Dregs; Captain Holt is the boss of the 99th precinct. While this makes the parallel between the two obvious, there are deeper reasons I believe Kaz and Captain Holt are one.
Both Kaz and the Captain present a stony exterior, but they’ve got a lot more feels going on inside than they’d care to admit (to themselves or to others).
They care deeply about their crew members and would do pretty much anything to protect them.
Not opposed to tough love.
Both have had to face adversity on their climb through the ranks to the top -- the Captain as an openly gay black police officer, and Kaz as one of the youngest gang bosses in Ketterdam.
Have made enemies along the way (see: Madeline Wuntch, Pekka Rollins, the Disco Strangler, Jan Van Eck...).
And of course, Kaz and the Captain are clearly the best characters of their respective series. I rest my case.
2. Inej / Rosa
Tumblr media
Rosa and Inej and are *the* most badass characters of their series. No one can hold a candle to these fierce femmes.
All black all the time -- Inej and Rosa have mastered the look.
Both are pros at their jobs and they’re not afraid to work hard.
Masters of the stake-out.
The secret glue that holds their crews together -- everyone would be lost without them (Boyle especially). Just look what happened that time Inej was kidnapped?!
Both have mysterious pasts -- or they are at least protective of their pasts/the details of their personal lives.  No one even knew where Rosa lived for like 3 seasons. Talk about stealth mode.
Can and will kick your ass.
Admittedly Inej is has a warmer disposition than Rosa, but we all know Rosa is a softy on the inside. And okay okay, I know I said Kaz and Captain Holt are the best characters, but I might have spoken too soon....
3. Nina / Gina
Tumblr media
Well, first of all, it rhymes -- so it must be true.
Nina and Gina are the sass-QWEENS of their series.
Witty, funny, confident, smart, beautiful, literally magic (either on the dance floor or raising the dead).
They know their worth. As I said before: QWEENS.
Unapologetically themselves.
Gina and Nina know how to indulge in the little pleasures of life and we should all take a page out of their books.
I would say Gina’s character is more selfish, whereas Nina is quite selfless (ummmm, hello, she basically sacrificed herself to get the crew out of Fjerda), but Gina has been known to be secretly thoughtful. Also: I think if Nina had a cellphone her emoji game would be on point. I dare you to disagree.
4. Jesper / Jake
Tumblr media
Goofy.
Charming.
Daddy issues.
Good with a gun.
Bad with money.
Need I say more? No. NEXT.
5. Matthias / Terry
Tumblr media
I think this might be my favourite parallel.
Matthias and Terry embody the older brother figure who is too cool to hang out with his younger siblings... but then somehow gets wrangled into the younger siblings’ shenanigans. And has to bail said siblings out of said shenanigans when everything goes to hell.
Older brother or mother hen?
Literal Adonis body.
Both are role models -- as fighters, leaders, warriors, and just generally noble and good peeps.
Did I mention muscles?
I wonder if Matthias loves yogurt....
6. Wylan / Boyle
Tumblr media
This checks out:
Both are keen to prove their chops to the team -- although they seem to be getting by on dumb luck half of the time.
Have weird relationships with their dads (different weird, but weird all the same).
Obsessed with Jesper/Jake.
Fierce ginger vibes (see: Boyle dressed as Mario Batali).

Analysing Copaganda (or "I watched seven seasons of Brooklyn 99 so you don't have to")
Introduction:
Several months ago my parents approached me asking if I wanted to watch Brooklyn 99, not knowing anything about it, my first instinct was to say no, but then I thought it would be interesting, to watch it and write a proper analysis for exactly what makes it propaganda and why it gives liberals brain worms. If you've spent any amount of time engaging with politics online for the last few years, you've likely already heard of Brooklyn 99. It's a sitcom written by Michael Schur, who previously wrote The Office (I'll get to that later), Parks & Recreation, and The Good Place. The show follows the lives of a squad of police detectives in Brooklyn and the wacky hijinks they get up to.
Brooklyn 99 has become famous, or arguably infamous, on Tumblr (and potentially other social media websites too) for being used as a "retort" to anti-cop sentiments (namely ACAB and any variation thereof), mainly taking the form of "the only good cop is Raymond Holt". In this essay (to use a funny Tumblr meme phrase) I will provide a brief overview of the show and the main characters, and analyse how the show, and each character individually, is pro-cop propaganda (copaganda).
The Show:
Brooklyn 99 is The Office, at least from what I understand about The Office. It’s a sitcom based in a workplace in which characters often pull pranks on each other and have wacky adventures pertaining to their job. The main thing that sets it apart from The Office is that the workplace in question is a police station, this makes it a cop show too. However, unlike more “classic” cop shows like CSI, Law & Order, The Wire, and so on, B99 doesn’t seek to glorify it’s characters as action heroes, but rather paint them as normal people living normal lives. This is far more insidious than the picture of the gnarled man of action who doesn’t play by the book, and by making the characters relatable the show gives viewers people to project onto, making them more vulnerable to the propaganda of the show.
Occasionally, in a break from the antics of Relatable Immature Prankster Archetype and Funny Overly Attached Best Friend Archetype, the show will attempt to say something about racism, or homophobia, or misogyny, or something like that, and while it usually feels well-meaning it often falls flat as it’s a watered-down safe-for-TV version of whatever the issue du jour is.
In S4E16 (“Moo Moo”), Terry is harassed by a racist cop while he doesn’t have his badge, and is almost arrested until he manages to prove his cop status, the rest of the episode revolves around how racism is bad and that one singular racist cop is a problem, in the end Terry submits a complaint to the NYPD higher-ups and gets his job application denied, and the racist cop gets away with a slap on the wrist. Throughout the show, Captain Holt tells stories about how he suffered from racism and homophobia, and still does. Transphobia is mentioned once (presumably for brownie points) in a throwaway line about Ace Ventura.
At the end of Season 4, Jake and Rosa are framed for a series of bank robberies and sent to prison, and the first two episodes of Season 5 work to show that prison is bad and prisoners are mistreated, they also make abundantly clear that everyone in prison is a menace and deserves to be there (Jake’s cellmate is a literal cannibal and he’s shown to be one of the nice inmates), once the duo are released from jail, there are a few lines here and there about how prison is bad, but they’re only throwaways used to serve as one-off jokes and never again used as an actual critique of the prison system.
Police Brutality is never mentioned, the closest it comes to bringing it up is in S1E19 (“Tactical Village”), where Rosa is introduced to a sonic-blast weapon and aims it as Charles, this is clearly supposed to be a very harmful piece of equipment, but it's only appearance is treated as a joke.
There are also recurring gags about Defense Lawyers being “the enemy” because they only defend guilty parties (the show heavily implies that none of the squad has ever arrested the wrong person), which meshes with the harmful stereotype in cop shows of only guilty people saying for a lawyer or a warrant or whatever, which has been documented before by others.
The Characters:
Jake Peralta (played by Andy Samberg) is the Relatable Immature Prankster Archetype I mentioned before, he’s the office funnyman and usually responsible for the majority of the goings-on and goings-wrong in the show, while he does mature and evolve through the show he never grows out of this character. He’s the closest the show gets to the “gnarled man of action who doesn’t play by the book” character I mentioned before, not because he is that character but because he wants to be, his favourite movie is Die Hard and it’s the reason he joined the police, so he could be like the cool bruce willis man. He’s also the most unlawful character on the show, in S1E7 (“48 Hours”), he arrests a man with no evidence and the squad is essentially locked down until evidence can be found, in the end it turns out the man is guilty. Jake is scolded for this, not for essentially breaking the law, but for wasting everyone’s time when they had much better things to do that night. Jake’s character is propaganda because he’s the zany relatable one with a heart of gold.
Amy Santiago (played by Melissa Fumero) is the overly-organised hyper-nerd archetype, in direct opposition to Jake. Her dream is to be the NYPD’s youngest female captain, and she’s very “I want to keep the people safe” in her approach to policing. In S3E3 (“Boyle’s Hunch”), she is used as the face of the NYPD’s poster campaign, only to have her image vandalised, which is painted by the show as being very bad and sad. Amy’s character is propaganda because she’s the uptight peacekeeper who sticks to the rules.
Charles Boyle (played by Joe Lo Truglio) is the Funny Overly Attached Best Friend Archetype I mentioned before, often depicted as bumbling and naive, he’s an incredibly competent detective, arguably more so than Jake. He’s usually polite and friendly, and has moments of childishness that compliment Jake’s character. Charles’ character is propaganda because he’s the nice guy who just wants what’s best for everyone.
Raymond Holt (played by Andre Braugher) is probably the character most people are aware of, he’s a somewhat stuck-up man who embodies a lot of the same characteristics as Amy, he’s highly-educated, incredibly smart and quick-witted, and emotionally restrained. Originally presented as an outsider, being the new guy to the pre-existing friendgroup, he learns to relax and let go over the course of the show, and acts almost as a father figure to the other characters, primarily Jake and Amy. Raymond’s character is propaganda because he’s a black gay cop.
Rosa Diaz (played by Stephanie Beatriz) is tough, aloof, and often scary in the eyes of the other characters, she is shown to have problems with engaging with people socially, particularly romantically, and while her exterior is rough as uncaring, she’s shown to be fiercely loyal and have some not-so-tough secrets. In Season 5 she comes out to the squad as Bisexual. Rosa’s character is propaganda because she’s the no-nonsense tough cop who secretly has a heart of gold.
Terry Jeffords (played by Terry Crews) is a kind and caring man with a firm-but-fair attitude, acting as Holt’s second-in-command he also acts as a father figure to the other characters, he has two (eventually three) children which he is often seen gushing about. He is the most mature of the group, on-par with Holt in some respects but sometimes more so, refusing to take part in hijinks to focus on his job. Terry’s character is propaganda because he’s the physically strong and imposing, yet kind cop who just wants to provide for his family.
Michael Hitchcock (played by Dirk Blocker) and Norm Scully (played by Joel McKinnon Miller) are an inseparable pair of bumbling, lazy, oafs. Scully is fat, lazy, and old, Hitchcock is lecherous, lazy, and old. They’re propaganda because they’re the lazy incompetent cop archetype.
There are plenty of minor recurring characters, as well as Gina Linetti, a main character who left after Season 6, however as she’s a liaison and not a cop I won’t be analysing her in detail.
There’s a lot more I could have mentioned here, from the dirty cop that sense Jake and Rosa to jail, or the police commissioner who wants to spy on everyone’s phones all at once, Holt even says the line “I don’t want to live in a Police State”, but I’ve left them out for the sake of brevity.
Conclusion:
Brooklyn 99 is copaganda to it’s very core, this much everyone already knows, but unlike serious cop dramas and high-stakes high-action cop shows, Brooklyn 99 offers viewers an escape to a world where the police are the force for good that people want them to be. The premise of “The Office but police” suckers people in with nostalgia for the late 2000s/early 2010s back when things were “good”. Given Michael Schur’s previous work I imagine he and the other writers didn’t explicitly set out to make copaganda, but it’s undeniable that this is what was achieved. And now with the political climate being what it is and the threat of a potential Season 8 addressing this year’s BLM protests, it’s now more important than ever to be able to identify and root out police propaganda, no matter how unassuming, no matter the source.
