The next morning we were amazed with how little the mound of sawdust and hay was reduced to, and to find that it was still incredibly hot. Poking the ash with a stick revealed some embers just under the surface, so we decided to wait before taking the pots out. At nighttime it was cool enough and we were excited to see the results and that we managed to single-fire this stack of greenware without breaking a single pot! The pots on the very outside and top of the stack turned out to be the most interesting looking ones, with ochre-tan to orange tones, and carbon-like black spots, while the pots that were most shielded on the inside stayed pretty bland and really looked almost like ordinary bisque, except a bit... ashy. I wonder if the outside pots were affected by local reduction, and/or maybe if sprinkling salt (or Caleb’s magic cookie dust?) did anything to them. So mixed feelings with mixed results but mostly excited to learn more about this process and happy we managed to not break anything by being careful to ramp up the fire slowly at the beginning. The next few days were spent reflecting on this experience and thinking of what fuels and strategy could bring us darker and exciting pots for our next firing. Oh god, the #CookieDuster in Henry’s IG is a slang term for mustache. Which means that he wanted to show it off, so he’s actually proud of it. Henry why? LOL. I love the pornstache look though! Right now I've got images of Henry all hairy and rocking a Burt Renolds or Tom Selleck look in my head. And making a movie about porn during the 70's where he wears a lot of opened button shirts and we get glimpses of his treasure trail. And where he's rocking a huge head of curls like a bad 70s teen idol. And lol at that tag "cookieduster" what a dork 😊.
