The Foodie Genie
Vincent had purchased a vintage cookie jar from an odd little antique booth at a local county fair. He thought it would be a perfect thing to put his homemade cookies in, which he always kept a batch of dough ready to make on hand, as they were his favorite, and perfect to bring out when hosting guests.
He did not expect it, though, when it began to smoke as he tried to clean it at home. Sparks flew out of it as he dropped it into his sink. Somehow unshattered, but still spewing sparks and purple colored smoke, he heard it make a squelching sound as if someone was prying their hand out of the cookie jar but it was suctioned in.
A great big figure of semi-transparent man jolted up out of the cookie jar and smacked its head into the ceiling.
“Years of hitting my head in my tiny little jar, to finally being released to hit my head again. Go figure,” said the being.
Vincent surveyed its impressive height, its massive belly, its bald head and goatee, and the way its legs seemed to swirl away into almost smoke.
“All right then, let’s get to it, I am Xavier, Genie for the Foodies, great to meet you,” Xavier held out a comically large hand, Vincent stared at it in surprise, “And your name is?”
“Vincent,” he blurted out, “Vincent’s my name, but you - what are you?”
“A genie. You got ears right?” Xavier said as it leaned back in the air, crossed its arms which accentuated its belly forward a bit.
“Of a cookie jar? I’m confused.”
“I could do the whole song and dance introduction, but I don’t want to overwhelm the already overwhelmed.” Xavier stated, magicking a large cushioned chair, and motioning Vincent into it. “You see, I’m a special kind of genie. A previous wish-giver was a foodie if I ever saw one, and made it so I can only grant wishes of a specific nature. For example, any food you could desire I could produce.”
Just then a whole feast of roast duck, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and more appeared with a pop in front of Vincent. Then in another moment all vanished, and was replaced with a buffet style platter filled with noodles and meats and rolls and veggies, and again vanished and was replaced with a vat of ice cream, steaming in the hot room.
“You get the picture, I can help you experience the rarest of delicacies too… and every once in a while I get someone who wants to become a rare delicacy themself, if you know what I mean.” Xavier raised his eyebrows, and watched as Vincent looked intrigued. “The one who wished I could only grant food related wishes, used his last wish to have me even swallow him whole! He wanted to experience first hand what it would be like to be food,” Xavier, floated upside down and let his large belly hang down and show how massive it is. It seemed to grow and inflate until it was pushing up against Vincent’s face.
In a flash of smoke Vincent suddenly had a gut the size of a yoga ball, and the genie was back to normal.
“Or I can give you more room, so that any meal you desire you’ll be able to finish, and have room for seconds…” Xavier snapped and Vincent’s belly swelled to the size of a compact car, “Thirds… fourths… you get the picture.”
In another puff of smoke the room filled with jello and Vincent felt himself floating in the giant mass and heard a muffled shouting from Xavier say “Or if you’d like to play with your food, I’m sure we could have a fun swim.” Another puff of smoke and Vincent was as small as a soup spoon, looking up at a dollhouse sized castle made of graham crackers and gingerbread. The candy door of it swung open and Xavier popped out, “Come on in, and consider a wish. You get three. No more. No less.”
Vincent entered the graham cracker castle, grabbed a chunk of chocolate that was by the door and nibbled on it. Xavier let him up a staircase made of cake, into a hall with a long table. They sat down and Xavier asked again what wish Vincent would begin with.
Vincent thought for a while. He supposed his wishes didn’t matter as much as a normal genie’s might. He didn’t think the world would collapse if he wished for a fridge with unlimited eclairs or something.
“I wish I had a fridge that could summon any food I desire when I opened it.”
“I can work with that,” said Xavier. A flash of smoke and they were normal sized, sitting on the kitchen floor. The genie gestured behind Vincent who turned to see a purple fridge replacing his old one. He opened it to find his favorite smoothie sitting on the center rack.
“Cool!” Vincent exclaimed, picking up the smoothie, closing the door and opening it again to find a plate of kebab waiting for him as well, “I didn’t even realize I wanted that. Thanks!”
Vincent drank and ate as he considered another wish. How could a wish regarding food be helpful for both himself and others? Maybe he could wish to change the taste of anything he ate to something he loved. That’d make shoving down the burnt stuff his friend made more bearable, even enjoyable. Or perhaps he could wish to not have any allergy to food or poison: to digest anything. But what if he wanted to heat something but not digest it? “I wish I could change the shape of my gut at will, so if I want to eat a whole roast pig I could do it in one sitting, but then be able to change my gut’s size back to another size to fit my clothes.”
“Hmm that’s an interesting one. Many ways that one could be used without relation to food so it’d be tricky to see if my powers would allow. I think I can grant it, but only if the primary body part you are changing shape is that of your gut and digestive system.”
Vincent felt a surge of energy through him like an electric charge. He looked down at his gut and imagined it ballooning to the size of a watermelon. It did so. He opened the fridge and found a cantaloupe waiting for him, and he stretched open his mouth to an impossible size and fit the melon in easily, swallowing it down if it were a small round candy. He felt his gut with his hands, feeling the soft flesh and the hard melon underneath layers of it. He imagined that his gut would be packed with thick fat to pad the melon inside. He watched as his layers of fat grew thicker and thicker until his gut could easily fit a human inside and have enough fat padding no one would notice a difference in shape.
“Wow, genie, you outdid yourself with this one. I think my friend Henry is gonna get a kick out of this,” Vincent said, turning back to the fridge. This time, when he opened it, the racks were gone and in their place was a full size human being, looking utterly bewildered at their being in a refrigerator.
“Hello? Vincent? How on earth - I was just in the library. How did I get here?” said the man in the fridge, stepping out of it into the kitchen, “And who’s this? Or what is this?” he said, gesturing to the genie.
“I know you’ve got a million questions but I’d like to try something if you’re still interested,” Vincent said, “Remember when you told me about those funny fantasies you like to muse about when you’re - well you know what I mean?”
Henry looked between the genie and Vincent, and began to notice their large bellies, “What - ?”
“Wanna make it a reality for a bit? I can let you out later. Like this,” Vincent’s stomach changed shape and the melon popped out of his mouth, good as new.
Henry looked surprised, but interested. “Wow, you swallowed that whole?”
“And you’re next, Henry,” Vincent said, with a gleam of devilishness in his smile. He glanced down on Henry and saw he wasn’t the only one changing shape. With one quick swoop, Vincent grabbed Henry by the shoulders, and threw him head first into his rapidly stretching mouth, sending him down into his belly, which was swelling to the size of a large couch again. Henry seemed to be quite content with this experience, not even struggling to slide down into his friend's belly.

The genie started clapping, “Oh my, what a show! You’ve got the hang of it quite quickly! But I must warn you, you must make three wishes by the time the clock strikes the hour mark, or all of your wishes will be revoked! And if that happens, your friend might be stuck in there for good with no magical stretching maw to let him back out.”
“The hour mark? Isn’t that like Cinderella and stuff? Why’s there a time limit?” Vincent asked, rubbing his gut and mildly distracted by the lump of Henry inside.
“Someone tried to wait to give me a final wish for 30 years and I got fed up and got special permission to start setting time limits.”
“Oh, I suppose that makes sense,” Vincent said absent mindedly, turning to the clock which read 3:59pm. Sudden panic filled him and he jostled his belly, sending Henry bouncing around. “One minute!”
“30 seconds actually,” said Xavier, not stressed about it.
Vincent’s mind went blank with shock as he tried to think of something good. He gave up and went with something that intrigued him earlier, “You said you ate one of the previous wisher people? That could be interesting I suppose to know what it’s like for Henry. I wish you would swallow me whole for a bit, then let me out before I get digested!”
Xavier looked excited and coy, “Really? Me eat you? I haven’t eaten in years,” the genie said, blushing. He clapped his hands and the room filled with smoke, and suddenly the two of them were steaming in a warm vat of hot fudge together. Xavier leaned in close, “I like a little flavor. But what would suit you best? Hmm…” The genie snapped its fingers and the vat of hot fudge turned to chicken soup… then to a birthday cake… then to a pool filled with chicken parm and pasta… then suddenly Vincent found himself sandwiched between two human sized slices of seeded bread, with an assortment of stuffing, cranberry sauce, turkey and lettuce and tomato. “Just want to say thank you for being a great wish-giver,” said the genie.
Vincent’s eyes grew wide as Xavier’s mouth stretched to the size of a door. Vincent felt air rush past his face as the genie’s throat seemed to start vacuuming the air around them down inside it. The sandwich lurched forward and Vincent watched as the giant mouth came closer and closer and he began falling into it, feeling the wet, mushy expanse of the back of the genie’s throat, and the tight squeeze down its esophagus. He fell what felt like ten feet down a tight, slimy tunnel of saliva, and landed in an opening chamber of stomach juices that tingled his skin. He felt around the giant stomach and felt it shrinking. He began with space to move around, but by the time it stopped shrinking he could barely move his chest to breathe. He hoped Henry was doing alright in his own belly, though his empathy was not deep when he felt Henry’s elbows and knees jabbing directly into his bladder and lungs. He felt the stomach walls around him knead his body, squeezing and contracting, as acid trickled down his sweaty face. He felt like he was dissolving into soup, felt like he could no longer tell where his fat belly ended and the one he was in began.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ceb279ba362005783352ce5f1890f605/2ce209f667e4fc69-89/s540x810/094ef0ec1f96534aff4040d1cd42f5eca1eda590.jpg)
He began to fade into unconsciousness when, in a puff of purple smoke, he felt all stress upon his body relinquish as if he had been let go of from the tightest, sweatiest hug ever. He landed softly, seated on the ground of his kitchen. He looked around but did not see the genie anywhere. Xavier had gone. He felt a bit groggy. Perhaps he had passed out on the kitchen floor. Had it all been a dream?
His answer came at once.
“Hey, bud, I’m having a great time… but you might wanna swallow some antacids, or let me out soon… unless you're hoping to make me permanently belly fat, of course, but this stomach acid is getting stronger.”
Vincent turned to the fridge. It was still purple. “Cool,” he whispered to himself. He looked up where the genie had been floating a while before and mouthed a silent “thank you.”
“Vincent? You there? I’m kinda digesting in here.” Henry called with a forced-casual tone showing signs of mild panic.
“Oh, right!” Vincent said, opening the fridge to find antacids and threw the whole unopened bottle in his mouth and right down into his belly.
A while later, after stretching his throat and mouth to let Henry out, the pair of them sat at the table, sharing some cookies. They sat in silence for awhile, enjoying each other’s company and processing what had happened.
“So I’m thinking, maybe I can come over for dinner again next week?” Henry said.
“To be dinner? Or share dinner?” Vincent joked.
“Why not both?” They shared a smile.

Bad Batch Food Headcanons:
Was having the meal of champions (soju, galbi, and buldak) and it got me thinking,,
So have this collection of random food headcanons:
Crosshair insists he can handle spicy food but he cannot. He's eating hot cheetos and he's fucking crying
Wrecker had to build up a tolerance for spice - he fucking LOVES spicy food ("It's like an explosion in my mouth!!") but couldn't handle it at first. Now he can handle buldak with half of the spice packet!
Hunter and Tech can handle their spice decently but Echo isn't too fond of spicy foods.
Like Wrecker, Omega built up a tolerance to spice, but also like Crosshair she's sensitive to it and will insist that she can handle her spice
Echo is a picky eater. That's like canon. He doesn't care that he's a grown man, he's ordering mac-n-cheese at the fancy restaurant. Deal with it.
Tech is another picky eater but he thrives off instant stuff like ramen or snacks like chips. Man can plow through a whole Costco-sized bag of tortilla chips in one sitting without realizing it.
Hunter has a stomach of steel, he'll eat anything and everything. It's only a matter of REMEMBERING to fucking eat. He'll stand up, nearly faint, then go, "What the hell?" and it's because he hasn't eaten since fucking yesterday.
No Crosshair, an ice coffee is NOT a suitable breakfast. How many times do we have to tell you? And aren't you fucking lactose intolerant???
Oh they love their dinosaur chicken nuggets though - especially Omega and Wrecker. They'll dunk them in ketchup and create a whole murder crime scene.
Omega LOVES soup. Any and all kinds! I think she'd really enjoy udon or 냉면 the most though. The slurp-ier the better!
I feel like Tech is a curry enjoyer. Indian curry, Thai curry, Japanese curry - he loves it all.
Rip Crosshair you would've loved flavored soju 😔
Rip Wrecker you would've loved Korean BBQ and all you can eat sushi
I don't think Hunter likes cold foods. His teeth are sensitive and they hurt when he eats cold stuff like ice cream (no I'm not projecting)
Crosshair likes mint ice cream. Echo likes rocky road. Wrecker enjoys strawberry or sherbert. Omega likes cookie dough. Tech likes caramel or coffee.
Ice cream is like the only kind of "dessert" that Crosshair likes (despite being lactose intolerant) - he doesn't really have a sweet tooth
WAIT CROSSHAIR WHEN I TELL YOU ABOUT BINGSU!!!
SPAM. SPAM. SPAM. Shut up they WOULD eat spam and idc what people say I fucking LOVE spam. Spam is the love of my life, they could never make me hate spam. I used to write parody love songs about spam as a kid. They would enjoy breakfasts of spam, rice, and eggs.
They'd devour the shit out of Mexican food. Like CMON-
Feel like Omega would like fiedo. And Echo too
Wrecker thinks breakfast burritos are godsend - he absolutely loves papas and chorizo
Y'know what would be funny? Echo being a picky eater yet LOVEING Mole. It's not for everyone (I personally like it) but he thinks it's good
Omega has a boba addiction. She has ro have it every week. Her favorites are Taro, Strawberry Matcha, and Honey Milk Tea
Only Hunter and Wrecker like boba; Echo, Crosshair, and Tech find the texture funny but they enjoy the drinks
I feel like Echo is a big bread eater. My sister reminds me a LOT of Echo and she absolutely ADORES bread (she's also a picky eater) - catch him at 85° or Paris Baguette
Hunter would love Soul Food and he also can work a grill
Rip Echo you would’ve loved soba and you would've loved 맥주
Tech actually secretly (not so secretly) has a sweet tooth - he really likes muffins and pies specifically
Omega and Wrecker record "Food Review" videos together
I have,, so many more ideas and whatnot but I'm leaving it here-
Ugh I just,,, I have so many foods I'd love to introduce them too-

I'm working on this refsheet for my oc Crumpette Sugar-Blossom (I shared her on a doodle-dump once but never actually posted her solo) and I decided to go crazy and draw some ref stuff for her cafe/bakery/eatingplacething too and thought youd think its neat :3
i wanna try to come up with a menu for the place~
:O!!!! OH I LOVE THIS
And I found that doodle dump with Crumpette and she's so cute!!!!!
YOU HAVE THE ENTIRE LAYOUT OF THE PLACE AND DESIGNS FOR DISHES AND EVERYTHING OMG........ I am just grinning rn LKFAJSDGRGH
AND THE VERTICAL KITCHEN IS SO FUNNNNNN :D!!!!!! I can just see her flitting about checking the ovens or pulling out a flat board of wood she can use for rolling out dough or as a cutting board!! And she forgot to push it back in so later she bonks her head on it while trying to fly upwards akjsfsd
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/11fe9d08f5b430d3326d466bea47c511/f91349a166b7a0e1-bf/s250x250_c1/0f56a1b3382fa7e33d077d9c5a2b885dac4d4922.jpg)
OK SO in that doodle dump I noticed Crumpette with this really cute slice of chocolate cake and it immediately made me think of cosmic brownies!! I never actually had those growing up but it fits The Vibes and I thought it was cute ouo
She kinda reminds me of those grandma cookie tins that sometimes get used for holding sewing equipment, or this one soup and sandwich place I went to years ago that gives you a chocolate-dipped strawberry with your meal!
As for food ideas!!!
A roll cake with strawberry and flower designs on it like this!
A jelly donut with strawberry filling, dipped with red (strawberry or chocolate flavored?) frosting and white spots to look like a mushroom!!
A heart shaped breakfast sandwich! And the little wrapper thingy over the bottom half that lets you hold it easier is this lime green and white gingham pattern :D
Macarons!! The doodle dump has a little bunny in the background so I imagine them being that shape lol. Ooh or butterfly shaped!!
Cinnamon rolls!!
Some kinda floral tea (maybe butterfly pea since it can change from blue to pink if you add something acidic like lemon juice?) served with buttery crumpets!!
Maybe the crumpets have her face stamped on them, or you drizzle it with honey and put ground up green pistachios through a stencil so it's in the shape of her wings, or something like that ouo
Not a food but this place definitely serves some drinks with silly straws, or you can ask for one instead of a regular straw :D
Strawberry souffle pancakes!
This strawberry gorgonzola pizza with honey!
I'm picturing this parfait where the different layers are a pastel pink, yellow, green, and blue? Ooh ice cream parfaits-
Maybe there's a drink that makes it look like you're drinking out of a honeysuckle flower, with the part that sticks out of the flower being the straw?
On that note there are definitely sweet fizzy drinks ouo. Ooh, maybe milkshakes?
Or maybe the ones where there's cotton candy over the glass and you pour something on it to make it dissolve and mix in with the rest of the drink! Like this!!
Not to mention all the possibilities for stuff like boba pearls or fruit jelly at the bottom of a drink, whipped cream on top with lucky charms, stuff like that!
Eeeehehehe this is so fun :D

i'm super stoked for the doing groceries simulation thingie i just did so i wanted to share it with yall :) once again it proves how eroski is the superior supermarket!!
so the way i do these is i make a menu for each meal in every day of the week, and randomly select what i'll be eating based on a balanced diet and personal preference. i also add snacks for breakfast and merienda / almuerzo, and on sundays i thought it would be fun to pick a random dish from taste atlas to make so i can practice my cooking skills!!!
obvs when i finally move out and this becomes a reality it'll be a bit different, as i probably won't have to buy everything from scratch and will have to adapt to what i have, and also most likely i'll eat out sometimes. but this is just for fun so that doesn't matter lol
anyways, here would be what i'd eat in that week from what i could buy in the grocery shop (in this case eroski, you'll see the brands and everything)
and below the cut you'll find the translation into english :)
MONDAY:
-Lunch: Sausages
-Dinner: Cheese fondue
TUESDAY:
-Lunch: Chickpea soup
-Dinner: Omelette
WEDNESDAY:
-Lunch: Sea bass with asparagus
-Dinner: Falafel
THURSDAY:
-Lunch: Lasagna bolognesa
-Dinner: Omelette
FRIDAY:
-Lunch: Leek and potato soup
-Dinner: Pizza (made at home, I'd buy the dough and everything)
SATURDAY:
-Lunch: Rice
-Dinner: Veal gyozas
SUNDAY:
-Lunch: Shepherd's Pie (it's an English dish I think)
-Dinner: Bread with olive oil and jamón (the most typical Spanish dinner ever lol)
OTHERS:
-Campurrianas cookies with chocolate chips
-Roasted peanuts in the shell
-Sobaos
-Chocolate ice-cream cones
-72% Chocolate with cocoa chips
-Jamón flavored Ruffles

NEW YORK
New York was a dream and this time around I got to enjoy the city differently. My first time to NYC was in 2018 with my mum and since it was my first time there I wanted to do all the touristy things and visit iconic movie landmarks. This time around the itinerary was different for my husband and I.
We got to take it a day at a time, visiting landmarks I've saved on my Pinterest and TikTok. We stayed on 42nd St which was directly next to Grand Central in the bustle of the city but my favourite spot from this trip has to be Brooklyn/Williamsburg.
I shared some of my recs via the different neighbourhoods we visited throughout our trip on my Instagram Broadcast channel but listing them all down below for an easier read :)
Coffee chains I visited around the city:
What I ordered -
Blue Bottle - Sweet Coffee
Bluestone Lane - Iced Honey Oat Latte
Brooklyn/Williamsburg:
What I ordered -
L'Appertement 4F - possibly my favourite and most memorable bakery spot ever. There was something about its cozy ambience as your approach their store in Brooklyn. It is the girl bakery dream. We had an Everything croissant and it was so fluffy, flavourful and the perfect type of savoury croissant.
Poppy's Brooklyn - matcha with pistachio milk! my first time trying pistachio milk and enjoyed the mix of matcha and pistachio.
Vinnies Brooklyn - come and stay for their elote pizza and add extra hot sauce ;)
Levain Bakery - a chain so you’ll find this everywhere but we went to the one at Williamsburg! Got the triple chocolate chip cookie yum.
Bakeri Brooklyn - the coziest looking bakery tucked in the midst of Williamsburg - I could imagine a cozy rainy day here. I saw a lot of people getting their soup of the day but we just got their Christmas special triple chocolate peppermint cookie.
East Village:
What I ordered -
From Lucie - oat milk latte with lavender (I’m not going to lie this may have been my favourite coffee so far) and we took away their mini carrot cake with vanilla frosting
Tompkins Square Bagels - everything bagel with cream cheese, the perfect bagel order when you’re not looking for a lot of things!
Katz Deli - some say pastrami, I say where Harry meets Sally. A wide menu to choose from, Ashwyn had their pastrami sandwich (as they’re famous for) and I had the cucumbers and pickles on the side with their house mustard which I loved.
SoHo:
What I ordered -
Eileen's Cheesecake - I don’t like cheesecake so this was for Ashwyn! He loves a good cheesecake anywhere. He got a strawberry tart and he said it was good and crumbly.
Sporty & Rich Cafe - when in SoHo and in NY, I had to… got the Smoothie #1 on their menu which was a mix of berries. It was yum and a large size.
Aime Leon Dore Cafe - also when in NY’s SoHo… known for their Freddo Espresso but we just got a cookie to go! Was caffeinated 2x by the time we got here.
Pop Up Bagels - we took away an Everything bagel and a Salted Poppyseed bagel with a tub of scallion schmear, this was soooo good.
La Cabra Coffee - took away their oat latte and it was divine.
Kips Bay:
What I ordered -
Birch Coffee - An everything croissant (you can tell that we had quite a bit of an “everything” something and all of it has been so good) and an iced honey oat latte + a hot vanilla oat latte.
Bryant Park/5th Avenue:
What I ordered -
Sweet Green - I’ve seen so much about it online, I just had to try it IRL. Loved my kale salad combo - crispy kale, miso glazed salmon, spicy cashew dressing, breadcrumbs, chilli flakes yum.
Suki Japanese Kitchen - a Japanese curry house; we both got the curry rice and tried it at different spice levels. Ashwyn got a 3 and I got a 5 ;)
Baked by Melissa - a city cupcake chain. We tried their mini Christmas sugar cookie, PB&J and cookie dough.
Magnolia Bakery - home of the best banana pudding in town and you know it.

KITCHENAID STAND MIXER AND ALL ITS ATTACHMENTS!! THIS IS THE GREATEST INVESTMENT I'VE EVER MADE we have a food shredder/grater attachment and it is so good, i just bust it out for beer cheese soup and BAM it's got all 16 ounces of tillamook cheese turned into a giant pile of ready to melt goodness
The other attachments I've seen are: wheat mill, to make your own flour! pasta maker, makes many pastas spiralizer, turn your (select) veggies into spiral cut miracles meat grinder juicer ice cream maker (that's more of a bowl but whatever) an ENTIRE FOOD PROCESSOR just kinda stuck on the front there, cool cool
the stuff you can do for food prep with something that has a strong and reliable motor, stable base, and rotates is endless. it's extremely clever and adaptable engineering. i'm taking this thing with me if i ever manage to afford my own house and my mom is gonna be so sad and will probably get one of her own
We did try another stand mixer brand but it was not even strong enough for cookie dough and it wasn't compatible with any attachments, alas
One of the BIG things about kitchenaid stand mixers, besides the strong motor, is the stable base, but with stability comes great weight. Even the mini is 18 pounds. They're meant to be put on one part of your counter and never moved. We kinda have limited counter space so we move it back and forth a lot.
Anyway, it's great and i love using it
We need to embrace the fact that the tumblr userbase is aging. What’s everybody’s favorite kitchen appliance?

When it comes to designing the perfect kitchen, selecting the right appliances is crucial. Whether you're a culinary enthusiast or someone who enjoys the occasional meal prep, having the right tools can make your cooking experience much easier, more efficient, and enjoyable. In this blog post, we will explore the top 10 must-have kitchen appliances that every home should have. These appliances not only enhance convenience but also elevate the overall functionality of your kitchen.
One of the most essential Miele kitchen appliances in any home is a high-quality refrigerator. The refrigerator is the heart of your kitchen, preserving your food and keeping ingredients fresh for extended periods. With a variety of sizes, styles, and features available, choosing the right fridge can have a significant impact on your kitchen’s organization and energy efficiency. Modern refrigerators often come with smart features like temperature control, humidity management, and even Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to monitor and adjust settings from your phone. With the increasing demand for healthier eating and fresh food, a reliable refrigerator is a must-have in every kitchen.
The second must-have appliance for every home is a microwave oven. While some might argue that a microwave is unnecessary if you enjoy cooking meals from scratch, the convenience it offers cannot be denied. A microwave is ideal for quick meals, reheating leftovers, and even defrosting frozen ingredients in minutes. Additionally, many modern microwaves come with features like grilling, convection cooking, and even smart sensors that help optimize cooking times and temperatures based on the type of food being prepared. The versatility and speed of a microwave oven make it an indispensable part of a well-equipped kitchen.
A dishwasher is another kitchen essential that deserves a spot on our list. Gone are the days when dishwashers were considered a luxury item. Today, dishwashers are a common feature in most households, helping to save time and water. Modern dishwashers offer powerful cleaning capabilities with energy-efficient designs, and many models come with smart sensors that detect how dirty your dishes are and adjust water usage accordingly. Not only does a dishwasher take the hassle out of doing the dishes, but it also helps you maintain a cleaner and more organized kitchen.
Next on the list is a stand mixer, particularly for those who love to bake. Whether you're whipping up cakes, cookies, or bread, a stand mixer is a powerful tool that can handle everything from mixing dough to whipping cream with ease. These appliances often come with a variety of attachments, such as dough hooks, pasta makers, and meat grinders, making them extremely versatile. Investing in a high-quality stand mixer can save you time and effort in the kitchen, and it can also expand the types of recipes you can create at home.
No modern kitchen is complete without a blender. From smoothies and sauces to soups and purees, a blender is one of the most versatile kitchen appliances you can own. The powerful blades can crush ice, blend frozen fruits, and emulsify liquids, making it an ideal choice for health-conscious individuals looking to make nutritious drinks and meals. Many blenders also come with various speed settings and pulse functions, allowing for precise control over the texture of your blends. Having a reliable blender in your kitchen can inspire creativity and help you experiment with new recipes.
One appliance that has gained immense popularity in recent years is the air fryer. Known for its ability to cook food with little to no oil, the air fryer has become a staple in kitchens around the world. It uses hot air circulation to fry, bake, grill, or roast your favorite foods, delivering crispy and delicious results without the guilt of deep-frying. Air fryers are perfect for making healthier versions of popular dishes like French fries, chicken wings, and even desserts. With its fast cooking times and healthier approach to frying, the air fryer has earned its place as a must-have appliance in every kitchen.
Another kitchen essential is the coffee maker. Whether you're a casual coffee drinker or a serious coffee enthusiast, having a good coffee maker is a must. There are several types to choose from, including drip coffee makers, single-serve machines, and espresso machines, depending on your preferences. Many modern coffee makers come with programmable settings, allowing you to set your brew time in advance, ensuring that you wake up to a fresh cup of coffee each morning. For many, the coffee maker is more than just an appliance; it's a daily ritual and an essential part of their morning routine.
The slow cooker is an appliance that every home chef should consider adding to their kitchen. It is perfect for busy individuals or families who want to prepare hearty, home-cooked meals without spending hours in the kitchen. With a slow cooker, you can simply toss in your ingredients, set the timer, and let it cook your meal throughout the day. Slow cookers are ideal for soups, stews, casseroles, and even desserts. The “set it and forget it” functionality makes meal prep a breeze and ensures that you come home to a delicious, ready-to-eat meal.
For anyone who loves freshly baked bread, a bread maker is an excellent addition to the kitchen. Homemade bread has a unique taste and texture that store-bought loaves just can’t replicate. With a bread maker, you can enjoy freshly baked bread whenever you want, without the hassle of kneading dough or watching it rise. Many bread makers come with various settings that allow you to customize the crust color, loaf size, and baking time. This appliance is perfect for those who enjoy experimenting with different types of bread, such as whole wheat, sourdough, or gluten-free options.
Finally, no kitchen is complete without a food processor. This appliance can save you hours of prep time by chopping, slicing, dicing, and shredding your ingredients in seconds. A food processor is ideal for making large batches of food, such as chopping vegetables for a salad, grating cheese, or even making dough. Its versatility makes it a must-have for any kitchen, and it can also help you prepare more complex dishes with ease. Many food processors come with interchangeable blades and discs, allowing you to customize your prep work for different types of meals.
In conclusion, having the right kitchen appliances can make all the difference in your cooking experience. From preparing quick meals to experimenting with new recipes, these top 10 must-have kitchen appliances can enhance your kitchen’s functionality and efficiency. By investing in high-quality, reliable appliances, you can streamline your cooking process, save time, and make meal prep more enjoyable. Whether you’re upgrading your current kitchen setup or starting from scratch, these appliances are essential for any modern home, ensuring that you have everything you need to create delicious, home-cooked meals.

Some pro-tips from someone in northeastern usa with food sensory issues AND cooks for both a small army of picky eaters & folks with different health risks:
Frozen onions are pre-diced and very, very easy to add into things. Unless someone has an allergy, I toss a handful of frozen onions (and garlic) into most of the dishes I cook. In thicker sauces & soups especially, they're very easy to sneak in.
Most squashes can be pureed and mixed into sauce! I like to use butternut squash especially (very popular donation to the food pantry so we always end up with a bunch) to mix into my stovetop mac'n'cheese sauce! Also another dish that you can freeze, though I will say that cubed squash (pumpkin especially~) is also really, really good when roasted with bacon, or when mixed into seasonal risotto.
Cauliflower! Cauliflower is a miracle veggie to me! You can dice it, rice it, mash it, use it as an alternative to pizza dough, and from personal experience it is absolutely delicious when breaded and deep fried.
Cucumbers! They go great with mint, watermelon, and are easy to sneak into sandwiches!
Kale & spinach are some greens that always are fairly popular with the crowd. For kale I like to either fry it up with some bacon, chicken, and pecans or dice it really fine to mix into soups. Spinach is very similar to that, but both are also good for salads. Kale has kind of a bitter- very mild!- taste to it and a bit more crunch; spinach is a little more bland & a bit softer (slightly longer to chew). Kale is also a good base for pesto. (I had so much kale from my garden last year; I had to get creative.)
Tomatoes are a hit-and-miss for me, so I've been getting more creative with them. I usually take canned tomatoes (homemade or store bought are both really good) and mix them into Hamburger Helpers (I'm poor and they're yummy), puree them for my own quick pasta sauce or salsa. I also love the smell of stewed tomatoes with mac'n'cheese but hated the texture; I found a recipe online that incorporates bell pepper slices and a slow simmer. I make them every time together.
Corn is very versatile. I personally love to make homemade cornbread (no idea how old our family recipe is), grill it, boil it, broil it, mix it into soups... I know there are more ideas out there, but I haven't tried them all yet.
Celery is one of those veggies I still can't quite get into, but it's always been good for soup: chunks into chicken pot pie, beef vegetable, pureed into a chilled celery soup on hot summer days, or even as a key ingredient in a veggie stock for meals later on.
Frozen berries! I know this thread is about veggies, but fruits & veggies kind of go hand-in-hand with this for me. Frozen berries can easily be added to ice cream, smoothies, cookies, or made into sauces & dressings for your rice, salads, & roasted meats. A few weeks back I used one bag of frozen blueberries to make a sauce that I put on chicken thighs, rice, and the rest went into a salad dressing. Plus they can be added to muffins, cereals, oatmeal, grits if you're willing to give it a go (maple syrup adds a little something-something too~)
Apples! I love apples; I can never stop thinking about how good apples are. They are very crunchy as they are and are very yummy raw, or drizzled with caramel, honey, baked into pies, grilled with brown sugar & cinnamon... Some of my personal favorites though are recipes where I slice them thin and incorporate them into my salads & sandwiches. Apple slices with cheddar cheese, apple butter, and cucumber slices on a cracker is divine for a midday snack, or apple slices with turkey, brie, and a little bit of honey toasted together (good place for some romaine lettuce too). My younger brother loves to grill up some slices of sausage with kale, apple, chive & onion cream cheese on toasted pieces of baguette.
Canned pears, peaches, and pineapple are always another option you can fall back on. I'm sure it's nowhere as good as the original, but I like to make sticky rice with pears as a dessert sometimes, and I've found the full sized canned pears are also good for making into a compote. Pineapple slices always add a little bit to a roast ham, and I love to heat up my peach slices in the microwave with a little cinnamon. They make easy snacks, too.
If you're like me and you have a phobia of produce going bad before you can finish it, I'd do a little digging into what you know you like to see if you could preserve it in some way.
Canned foods are usually fairly cheap (rinse several times before cooking to remove excess sodium!) and will stay good for several years.
Frozen fruits and veggies are often cut up in advance, which I can say from experience can save a LOT of time, and you don't need to use an entire bag in one go. I usually just do a handful or so at a time. Many also come with seasoning and can be cooked in the microwave!
If you, like me, rely on a food pantry, or even if you have to shop bulk, and tend to end up with a lot of fresh produce you don't think you can eat, it's worth the effort to set a day aside (if you can!) to figure out ways you can preserve it. I often spend my Saturday afternoons canning, dehydrating, and/or freezing what I know we can't use in the next week. I usually don't have a lot of spoons when I get home from work during the week, so any time I can save for myself cooking later is much better. (You can also freeze fresh herbs, cheeses, and meat!)
Getting into the habit of eating healthier can be a challenge, but it's worth trying to experiment and finding what sticks. In my case, it was eating mac'n'cheese baked inside a pumpkin & having my entire world view shift on me. Maybe it'll be something as simple as eating an apple slice drizzled with honey, or trying a different cheese on some leafy greens. You just have to find what works for you, and be patient with it.
i mean this in the gentlest way possible: you need to eat vegetables. you need to become comfortable with doing so. i do not care if you are a picky eater because of autism (hi, i used to be this person!), you need to find at least some vegetables you can eat. find a different way to prepare them. chances are you would like a vegetable you hate if you prepared it in a stew or roasted it with seasoning or included it as an ingredient in a recipe. just. please start eating better. potatoes and corn are not sufficient vegetables for a healthy diet.
#long post#food#veggies#fruits#reference#vegetables#cooking#meal prep#???#kinda#trust me i didn't eat like ANY vegetables till i was nearly 18- just potatoes and rarely some corn#i started just by putting some lettuce on sandwiches but when i finally tried that pumpkin mac-#core memory tbh#shut up ace

The Mystery of Rice Starch Unveiled
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b0bd340a35ac5b9a92c0fdf412c269fd/355995ac27bc5d19-00/s540x810/cc68243f45c114f96ec1d5b8990ee0c0d1c172ad.jpg)
In the culinary world of our daily lives, rice, as a common staple food, holds undeniable significance. But have you ever delved deep into one of the key components within rice – rice starch? Now, let's embark on this fascinating journey of exploring rice starch together. Rice starch, though seemingly ordinary, holds hidden wonders and is rich in value and unique characteristics. First, let's take a look at the basic features of rice starch. It is a fine white powder with distinct physical and chemical properties. Regarding particle size, it is relatively small, which gives it a significant advantage in many application scenarios. For instance, in the field of food processing, the smaller particles can bring a more delicate texture to the food. Next, let's learn about the production method of rice starch. Generally speaking, the production of rice starch involves the following main steps: - Raw material selection: Choose high-quality rice as the raw material, which is the foundation for ensuring the quality of the starch. - Soaking: Soak the rice in water for a period of time to allow it to absorb sufficient moisture, facilitating subsequent processing. - Grinding: Grind the soaked rice to obtain rice pulp. - Filtration: Remove impurities and coarse particles from the rice pulp through filtration. - Sedimentation: Let the filtered slurry stand still to enable the starch to sediment. - Drying: Dry the sedimented starch to remove moisture and obtain the final rice starch product. Speaking of the origin of rice starch, it is inseparable from the elaborate processing of rice. Through a series of precise procedures such as grinding, screening, and separation, starch is successfully extracted. This process not only requires superb professional techniques but also relies on sophisticated equipment to ensure the purity and quality of the starch. In the vast realm of cooking and food production, rice starch is a true "all-rounder". It often plays a significant role as a thickening agent, giving a rich and smooth texture to soups and sauces. Imagine the fragrant Borscht soup, which becomes rich and mellow thanks to the appropriate addition of rice starch, making every mouthful full of rich flavors. And the classic West Lake Beef Soup, with the assistance of rice starch, has a more delicate texture and is unforgettable. On the stage of baking, rice starch also shines brightly. When making cakes and cookies, it can improve the texture of the dough, making it softer and fluffier. For example, when making a light cheese cake, the appropriate addition of rice starch can make the cake's texture as light as a cloud, avoiding heaviness and compactness. The applications of rice starch in the food industry go far beyond these. In the production of frozen foods, it is of great merit and helps enhance the stability and frost resistance of the products. When we take out a delicious frozen dumpling or ice cream from the freezer and enjoy its excellent taste and texture, it is largely attributed to rice starch. For instance, frozen dumplings are less likely to break during storage and cooking precisely because rice starch enhances their toughness. Not only does it perform outstandingly in the food field, but rice starch also makes remarkable contributions in other industries. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is often used as an excipient for drugs, assisting them in forming perfectly and exerting their efficacy. In the cosmetics industry, due to its mild and non-irritating nature, it is widely used in various skin care products and makeup products, providing comfortable care for the skin. For example, the addition of rice starch in some foundation creams can enhance the durability and adherence of the makeup. However, to fully leverage the advantages of rice starch, the correct usage method is of paramount importance. When cooking, precise control of the timing and dosage of addition is crucial. Adding it too early or in excessive amounts may result in overly sticky food; adding too little or too late will fail to achieve the desired effect. Take the making of Sweet and Sour Pork Tenderloin as an example. When preparing the sweet and sour sauce, pour in the properly prepared rice starch water shortly before the dish is done, and stir quickly to ensure the sauce evenly coats the tenderloin, presenting an attractive color and texture. When selecting rice starch, there are also several key points to note. High-quality rice starch should have a pure white color, no odor, and uniform particles. Additionally, understanding the origin of the product and the production process is also extremely necessary, which helps us select high-quality rice starch. With the continuous advancement of technology and the increasing attention paid to health and environmental protection, the research and application of rice starch are constantly expanding and innovating. In the future, we have every reason to believe that rice starch will showcase its unique value in more unknown fields, creating more convenience and surprises for our lives. Although rice starch may seem ordinary, it plays an irreplaceable role in our lives. Whether it is adding charm to delicacies or playing a crucial role in industrial production, it fully demonstrates its unique charm and significant value. Let's look forward with anticipation and wait for it to bring more brilliance in the future! Read the full article

Enhancing Culinary Creativity: Exploring the World of Food Color Powders
In the world of culinary arts, presentation is just as important as taste. A dish's visual appeal can captivate diners even before the first bite. This is where food color powders come into play, offering chefs and home cooks alike a vibrant palette to elevate their creations to new heights. From dazzling desserts to eye-catching entrées, the possibilities are endless with these tiny, yet powerful, containers of color.
Food color powders are concentrated pigments that can be used to add hues to various culinary creations. Unlike liquid food coloring, powders offer greater control over intensity and can be easily mixed to create custom shades. Commonly used in baking, confectionery, and beverage industries, these powders are also finding their way into savory dishes, cocktails, and decorative garnishes.
One of the most appealing aspects of food color powders is their versatility. They can be used to achieve subtle pastels or vibrant hues, depending on the amount used. For instance, a pinch of matcha green powder can impart a delicate tint to macarons, while a larger quantity can create a bold green tea flavor in ice cream. Similarly, a dash of beetroot powder can lend a soft pink hue to frosting, or a more generous amount can infuse a red velvet cake with natural color and flavor.
Beyond aesthetics, food color powders offer a range of benefits. Unlike some artificial colorings, many powder-based pigments are derived from natural sources such as fruits, vegetables, and spices. This not only enhances the appeal of dishes but also aligns with growing consumer preferences for clean-label ingredients. Additionally, powders are shelf-stable and easy to store, making them a convenient option for both professional kitchens and home cooks.
In the realm of pastry and dessert-making, food color powders are particularly prized for their ability to transform ordinary treats into extraordinary works of art. From gradient cakes that transition through a spectrum of colors to intricate sugar flowers with lifelike hues, these powders enable bakers to unleash their creativity and turn confections into masterpieces. Moreover, they can be dusted onto chocolates, macarons, and cookies to add a touch of elegance and whimsy.
However, the use of food color powders extends far beyond the realm of sweets. In savory cooking, these powders can be employed to add visual interest to dishes without altering their taste. Sprinkling turmeric powder onto rice can lend a golden hue, while a dusting of activated charcoal powder can create striking contrasts in sushi rolls or pasta dough. Additionally, powders can be mixed into sauces, soups, and marinades to impart color without diluting flavors.
In the realm of mixology, food color powders are revolutionizing cocktail presentation. Bartenders are experimenting with powders to create visually stunning drinks that delight the senses. From colorful rimming salts to layered cocktails with vibrant gradients, these powders are pushing the boundaries of beverage aesthetics. Furthermore, they can be used to garnish cocktails with edible glitter or shimmer, adding a touch of glamour to any libation.
In conclusion, food color powders are a versatile tool that empowers culinary enthusiasts to unleash their creativity and elevate their dishes to new heights. Whether used to add a pop of color to desserts, impart natural hues to savory dishes, or create visually stunning cocktails, these powders offer endless possibilities for culinary expression. With their convenience, versatility, and ability to enhance both aesthetics and flavor, food color powders are a must-have in any kitchen arsenal.
