Where: outside the Ocean Crest Apartments Who: @gavin-carrigan
They were about….two hundred yards away from the ambulance that had checked Hindley and herself out for smoke inhalation when Carrie had been forced to sit down heavily on the grass. Still holding her little blonde son to her chest tightly she was rocking him back and forth, gently whispering in his ear that he was safe, everything would be alright. Anything she could to drown out the chaos around them because honestly the woman had no idea where she was meant to go. She’d only been back in town for about a week, the only person from her past that knew about her son was someone who also lived in the same apartment block that was currently on fire, and really she was too shell shocked to make any rational decisions in this moment. Hair tumbled down on either side of her face as she pressed a couple of kisses to the whimpering child’s temple, knowing she was covered in sweat and soot but not caring. They were out safely, that was all that mattered. Carrie was so in her own world she didn’t notice Gavin nearby, maybe because she didn’t expect to see him here, it’s not like he lived at the Ocean Crest Apartments. “You’re okay….you’re okay…” She repeated over and over, not sure who she was trying to convince, herself or the baby.

“And then some.” Carrie couldn’t help but smile a little herself, just because even through all her fear about how the news of their son would go down with Gavin, it was still a slight relief to see him again. One step closer to coming clean, right? “I do…you remembered.” Now she smiled properly, because that was a positive sign to him being a decent person. Well…that or him having a decent memory. “Do you still love Kate Bush?” Part of her hoped he said yes because it might help ease the news. Right? God her brain was in a million different places right now. It was actually making it hard to focus on the conversation at hand which indicated that maybe she needed to tell him sooner rather than later if she wanted to be able to function properly. “Planning one is madness, I don’t know if maybe I have a bit of a sadistic streak for being in the job I’m in, but that is neither here nor there. I…yes…ugh sure. A coffee and talk would be nice. A catch up.” God he was about to have a bomb dropped on him and he didn’t even realise it. Poor guy.
“ It has been a while “ Gavin mused for a moment with a sort of smile on his face. He always remain friendly even if the person had been someone he had a one night stand with. It probably had been an awkward moment for the both of them, and he was never going to fold anyone for wanting to disappear. “ it’s been a couple years. I’ve mostly been just teaching and dealing with family stuff. Do you still love Wuthering Heights?” He asked remembering their brief conversation about Kate Bush and music and books. He let out of say about the idea of weddings being complicated. They always were but in his experience, they weren’t as complicated as his divorce. “ I think specifically planning one is the most over the top part. I can’t imagine how hard it would be. It’s no worry. I understand how stressful things can be. Do you wanna grab a coffee and talk maybe it’ll help with the stress?” @carriejayme

Gavin had small specks where he felt fleeting and gleaming moments of redemption. This was not one of those moments as he sat awaiting his next assignment. Some guy wanted a girl he'd dated tailed to see if she was with someone else, the whole thing screamed soap opera. If the Gavin of a decade ago could see him now... he'd call him a poser for sure. And as soon as she walked by, the younger him in his head swooned all over again. She was his assignment. A man had paid him to find out if she was dating anyone else, not that he was honoring that fucking agreement. Gavin stepped out from the car and took a deep breath, trying to think of a way to explain how and why he'd disappeared. She probably thought her dad paid him off, or that he'd just run away without a word. It would've tracked. He was an asshole. But the truth? A little more complicated. Walking over until he was behind her, he cleared his throat. "You know I've replayed this moment in my head a few times." That accent thick in the air between them as he waited for her to turn, quite honestly bracing for a punch. "But if I had to peg running into you in the middle of this city, little Yank, that one might've fallen on the latter end of likely."

Hands First, Details Later
Let me re-introduce you to the OG, the King of 0-100, jump to conclusions, ready for war, Mr Hands First himself, Gavin. He may have selective hearing and he might be more dramatic than the terrors and Bailey rolled into one, but he’s always going to fight for the Richards gang gang. And yes that includes fighting kids if necessary. The love and loyalty is very real. The logic? Not so much.
At this point Bailey, Quinton and Gavin have failed to get through to Legend & Lyric. Should we all just admit defeat? Or do we have faith in the final boss, the OG Queen, the founder of this legacy, Brooklyn Kay? We’ll have to wait and see.
#putting ALL my simoleons on Grandma#Brooklyn always has the answers#the Gavin i used to know#would have shut the convo down at girlfriend#but moms and dads want to act different#when they get grandkids lol#bklegacy#bklgen2#gavin richards#lyric#legend#rebi#bailey kay#brooklyn kay

Okay, so this was going to be an interesting one to navigate and Caroline wasn’t looking forward to it, but she probably already looked like a deer in the headlights. About to speak she was cut off when Hindley instead decided he wanted to interject, screeching his favourite phrase at the top of his voice. “Dadaaaa!” The little boy giggled as he kicked his chubby legs against his mom’s hips, her heart instantly sinking. Even just hearing him say that was a reminder of the truth she was going to have to tell to Thomas that she feared so terribly. Knowing it would result in their friendship likely ending - which was after all one of the reason she’d left town in the first place when she found out she was pregnant.
“Sorry…it’s his favourite word. He calls everyone that, he even called Liza dada the other day so…” An attempt at humour as she laughed weakly, glancing over her shoulder like Gavin would materialise randomly even though she was fully aware he wasn’t in the house right now. “No, no you’re not interrupting anything at all - I just, Gavin found us just after we managed to get out of the fire and offered us somewhere to stay because … everything was covered in smoke and soot so…” Stepping back as he walked into the house, closing the door behind him leaving the three of them standing there in the hallway, no idea what she was meant to say. Tell him about the one night stand? No, Carrie wasn’t sure the best way to broach that but randomly out of the blue in the middle of Gavin’s hallway probably wasn’t the right option.
Thomas didn't exactly like to go to Gavin's place, but he figured he should be a good problem once in a while and go check on him, even if the fire had been all the way to the apartments, maybe his brother was there for some reason, so he figured the least he should do was to check to see if he wasn't dead or in a hospital, after all, he knew when he went to check on his parents, they would ask about the favorite sibling.
he rang the doorbell and waited, figuring he would just open the door would see he was fine and he could leave in last than 5 minutes. The last thing he expected was to see Carrie and with a kid, it wasn't his nephew, at least not the one he knew, that one was 7, 8 years old, he was trying to understand what was happening, but at the same time he just wanted to close the door and leave, he felt like he had opened the door to hell or something. "Yeah, I just came to check on him..." He somehow manages to say. "Am I interrupting something?" He said, was she staying with Gavin? was she dating his fucking brother, we, we, we. Her words kept repeating on his head, and he felt like a complete idiot, he was angry, he wanted to get out of there but somehow his legs made him go in.

Where: Gavin's house Who: @gavin-carrigan
Clock watching was always the fastest road to disaster but Carrie couldn’t help herself, as the hours ticked by she wondered if maybe some splice in the space time continuum had made time go slower. Hindley had been up for two and a half hours at this point, it was three am, and neither Gavin nor Caroline were expecting to get sleep anytime soon. Even if he was quiet the mother’s anxiety would probably keep her awake watching over him just because even the slightest illness made her paranoid about her baby. He had a very low level fever and was refusing to settle, spending a lot of the time crying in either his mother or father’s arms. The blonde was at least grateful he had taken to Gavin so quickly he was comforted by both parents through the course of the night. Plus he’d been true to his word, staying up with her every step of the way.
Still her eyelids had started to feel like they were made of sandpaper, scraping at her retinas with every blink. Her head was made of cotton wool, her lower back aching from walking around Hindley’s room with the toddler in her arms, trying to sooth him with slow rocking which was only working intermittently.
Heading back into the nursery holding two mugs of tea she was greeted by the sight of Gavin sat in the armchair with Hindley curled up in his lap, face pressed against his dad’s t-shirt as he whimpered quietly. “Here, tea, I was going to make it decaf but then I realised we could probably use the caffeine. How is our little man doing?”

Mabel was prepping for end of day, making sure that the bags were packed and everything was where it should be for pick up. Luckily, it had paid off and every pick up went without a hitch. She was waiting for the final few kids when she saw Gavin walk in. He wasn't unknown to her. In fact, she fully knew he was there to pick up his niece due to the call they had received to inform them about it -- children's safety and all that.
"Great job, Devon, how about you clean that up and go get a toy while we're waiting for mom to pick you up?" She told the little girl she had been crouched next to, getting up to tap another on the shoulder. "Look who is here to pick you up?" She mused at the girl, waiting for her to turn around and see Gavin, which of course caused her to storm off towards him. It was with a broad smile that she neared them, getting her bag and coat from her designated coat peg and walking over towards the pair.
"Hey, Gavin. She's been an angel today. We did have a little accident during dinner but I put her dirty clothes in a plastic bag and into this bag." She spoke, flashing a smile at him as she held it out towards him. "Good to see you again." @gavinmccall

He had a good point, even if Carrie spent most of her life since becoming a mom wanting to find ways to wrap Hindley in cotton wool to stop him getting hurt in any capacity at all. It was unrealistic though, when shown that by someone else it was easier to see than when it was just her existing in her own head having to power through parenting choices alone. “Alright, on your head be it, just remember this when we’re up at three am.” She chuckled, not actually planning on holding it against him for even a second if that ended up happening. Actually it would be a relief to be going through it with someone else this time. So many nights she’d sat up with a sick little boy with no one to help her but google and most of the time that just suggested baby aspirin or the ER with no in-between. “Well, not yet, probably because he’s never seen Ratatouille, maybe that should be the next movie night. What do you think bubba? Do you want to watch a movie about a little mouse?” Making squeaking noises as she looked up at him with a grin, getting slightly sloppy ones in return. An effort was made. “Drums? Oh goodness. Do the ones for little kids come with the pads on them that make it quieter? If so we’re going to need to get some of those as well. Or earplugs. Or soundproof a room.” She listed off the options, voice still light as she joked, eyes sparkling.
The situation with Thomas was a much more serious section of the conversation however, making the woman take pause as she listened to Gavin talk. Not wanting to interrupt until he was done with giving his advice because really if there was someone who knew Tom well enough to be dishing it out wasn’t it him? Even if they hadn’t been close they had been in each others lives in some capacity for years. The only other person who she knew would know him just as well was herself, and she’d managed to screw that up royally. The ghost of a smile on her lips as she breathed. “I’ll always worry about him though.” Because it was true. Even when she had been thousands of miles away she’d written letters to Tom that she’d never sent, collated in notebooks, just to feel like she still had some kind of connection to him. “He asked me out.” The blonde blurted out, not sure why she was talking to Gavin about this part of her and Tom’s relationship since he was her baby’s dad and also his brother, not to mention they didn’t know each other all that well yet. Still it had escaped before she’d stopped to think about it properly. “Before he knew about Hindley, well before he knew who his dad was too. So I asked him to ask me again in a couple of months but that was dumb because I’m never going to be able to say yes. Me in high school would jump at the chance but now? I’ve made it too weird…ruined it. We’ll never be able to do that. And I think he thinks that’s because I don’t like him but that’s just not even close to being true.”
Gavin loved being able to do this again. Well, he felt like he hadn’t been necessarily the best brother or the best husband. He knew deep down his best job is being a dad. It was like he got to do all the things that made him admire his adoptive father. He had been so scared for so much of his childhood that getting to give kids the life. He never got as a kid made him want to try harder. It also made him want to make sure the kids always had fun. It was why he was willing to risk a sugar high from a toddler just to make sure the kid was happy. “ absolutely. We can’t shield kids from experiencing their own fun. Even if it ends in a sugar high or an upset stomach. Trust me there are plenty of times that I’ve eaten things that seemed good at the time.” He noted with a smile before making a face at the sound of tiny hands hitting his head. “ at least he’s not pulling my hair like I’m in ratatouille.” Gavin noted as he looked up to Hindley with a small smile. “We’re gonna have to get you some drums aren’t we? “ he definitely was down for his kids to be musical but maybe drums would be a little loud at first. “ I’m fine Carrie I know it was an accident.” He smiled in regards to the accidental hitting. She was a good mom and he appreciated that.
When it came to the Thomas situation, Gavin was going to try his best to make sure that the two would start speaking again. He knew he had a time limit on the situation with Juliet, and he was going to treat the Carrie situation with his brother, just as serious. “ because it was probably pent-up for years. I got to see where he’s coming from though too. He didn’t know about the situation, and he matters to both of us. It does look like a betrayal from his end. ” he noted before letting out a sigh “ he has every right to feel the way he feels; same as anyone else. But we’re not fighting right now, so you don’t have to worry about anything.” Explain, not wanting Thomas to come off badly about the situation. He completely understood where the guy was coming from. “ you’re not a coward. I was still married at the time. I can’t imagine how it must’ve felt to feel like you couldn’t come to me. It’s always better late than never. Which is what advice I’m going to give to you about my brother. You got to give them a chance Carrie. I know you two are good friends.” @carriejayme

Where: Gavin's house Who: @gavin-carrigan
“Honey I’m hoooome.” Carrie giggled as she tried to move through the front door quietly, entirely juxtaposed with the fact she’d just called out at the top of her voice, entirely forgetting Hindley would no doubt be asleep by this time. A girls night had been good fun, the chance to let loose with her girlfriends, have a couple of glasses of wine while they gossiped about their lives. It wasn’t something she did often, especially since becoming a mom because she’d dedicated her entire life since falling pregnant to her son but with Gavin in the picture she was comfortable leaving the toddler with his father now. Granting her a little more freedom.
Dropping her keys with a clatter as she muttered annoyance under her breath, bending down to scoop them up, her heels clicked against the floor as she headed towards the living room. In search of both the man as well as another glass of wine because it was only eleven in the evening. One more would do no harm. “Did he fall asleep okay? Everything been calm?” The blonde asked as Gavin came into view, reaching out to take hold of the kitchen counter as she moved around it to grab a couple of wine glasses and a half empty bottle of white wine from the fridge. “Have a glass with me? I feel like we need to bond. I know we only met that one time properly but I thought you were really cool - it made me wonder how I’d missed that Tom had a big brother like you for so long.”
