anyone know good audition songs for a female contralto/contratenor, roughly 2:30 - 3:30?
I'm really struggling to find a song for class, and my teacher seems to think that I can belt high (I can't. at all.)

so! with all the recent fic writing I've done with elias, i think I've finally gotten a decent hold on their speech patterns! meaning i can finally write up a guide for y'all, since elias doesn't exactly speak in the most 'typical' manner
* elias tends to talk around matters, and uses odd metsphors. they do not use contractions consistently, especially whenever they are agitated or in an aroused state (not horny).
* does not use the word 'got', and often drops words that are similar parts of speech (such as 'to be'. context dependant) (i.e. "i have somewhere i've got to be going to." -> "I've somewhere I must be.")
* often doubles words for emphasis, and tends to reiterate what tense they're speaking in a bit more than necessary
* uses petnames frequently. if they're being insicscere, they tend not to use "my". if they like you, you'll get a personal nickname (i.e. honey, velvet, sweetmeat, ect)
* tends to under-state things, both good and bad
* uses 'oh', 'hm', and 'ah' quite a lot. rarely answers questions directly, with varying degrees of obfuscation.
* hums when they have no direct response, or are keeping a thought to themself.
* musical voice. contratenor/contralto
* elias speaks with a prim and proper accent when in society and at parties, but whenever around friends they drop into a more relaxed accent. it's very hard to get rid of the high class accent entirely, as they've been masking with it for far too long and far too intensely. maybe someday this will be fixed
* generally they're very well composed in their speech, and often stops themself before they have the chance to ramble. in normal conversation elias likes to let others talk, and will direct the conversation towards where they want it to go. they only speak a few sentences at a time, but they say a lot with those words. the more emotionally affected they are, the more they have to say. or if they're caught up in an interest of theirs
* they're very polite, even when tearing you to shreds.
i think that's about it!!

trans joy rant for the timeline or whatever
i don't really have anywhere else to put these thoughts and my cis friends just don't really get it and neither do my enbies because they're not medically transitioning and yeah
i've been on T for 10 months now!!
and the most grating part of my dysphoria beforehand was my voice. i have no words to describe my voice beforehand other than,, if the dysphoria didn't zap my brain every time i talked and practiced, i could've made a great gig as the next disney princess.
i've done classical singing my entire life. i was a mezzo soprano forcing myself to be an alto and chronically wishing i could be a tenor. i've never felt more jealousy in my life than when i was 16 and a girl in my choir was a contratenor. i would listen to the aladdin and little shop of horror soundtracks and just hold back tears sometimes before i was out to even myself. i just did not understand the gender envy i was experiencing from male singing. it felt like something was missing and i spent so much of my singing career wondering why i couldn't just get ahold of my voice. it's because i couldn't stand the sound of it no matter how polished it was. i still can't listen back to old clips of me talking, nonetheless singing. it's crazy because my voice has only been dropped for a few months but i can't imagine it any other way than the 2014 justin bieber prototype it's fell into. i love it.
i hope to get to a point i can be comfortable with my old voice, but the point of this post: my new voice is my favorite thing about myself. i genuinely love to hear myself talk. vocal training doesn't feel disheartening anymore. i'm a tenor now!!!!!
and even more exciting,, i just extended the bottom of my range by two notes. when fully warmed up, i can now hit down to A2 pretty consistently, it just needs work!! i am now the countratenor i was so envious over. it gets better.

Thanks for tagging me @qveerthe0ry and @quicksilvermad !
Favorite Painter - I don’t know that I’m well versed enough to say that I have a favorite, but I enjoy David Hockney, Edward Hopper, Henri Matisse, Mark Rothko
Favorite Writer - I have so many writers that I love, but I have to say my favorite is Jane Austen. Her books are so subversive and funny with characters that just jump on the page.
Favorite Band - Does Silk Sonic count? I love their whole vibe
Favorite Meal and Drink - mussels in white wine with crusty bread sounds really good right now with a glass of Chardonnay
Favorite Outfit aesthetic - comfortable, minimal
Favorite Singer - the man who has conducted The Messiah production I play with every year for the last few years has the most incredible voice. He is a contratenor and I desperately want him to come sing with my orchestra.
Favorite Item I own/possession - probably my violin
Favorite Perfume - none, can’t stand it
No pressure tagging- @burntheedges @secretelephanttattoo @schnarfer @artsy-girl-76

Baroque opera staged in the most chaste way possible
I mean all-male cast because trough the years popes forbade woman to play in theatres to prevent indecency. Of course, in real life man dressed as woman didn't prevent any indecency. Indecency just became less straight.
In 2022 for Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival Max Emanuel Cencic staged Leonardo Vinci's opera Alessandro nell'Indie with all-male cast starring contratenors (and male soprano Bruno de Sá) in roles written for castrati.
It's a comedic staging but from what I've read about baroque opera it very much follows the spirit of it's age with over the top costumes and performance, zero historical accuracy and with the main actor drinking champagne right on the stage.
Unfortunately, there is no English subtitles, only German (opera itself is written in Italian), so my congratulations to German-speaking followers, my condolences to everyone else. Anyway, wiki has a detailed libretto of this opera, so you can follow the plot even if you don't understand German or Italian.
Here is a little clip to give you a brief understanding what is this staging like:

The whole opera. I really recommend it, it's absolutely hilarious.

If you're not sure, just take your best guess.
Also, for those who care, we're going with choral voice typing here because I think it makes more sense to the average person than operatic voice typing. And I don't wanna try and explain Fächer to Tumblr Dot Com. So... If you're a Mezzo, but (like most mezzos) sing Alto in a choral setting, then go with Alto.
I'm also aware that proper voice typing can take years, and that many people get assigned, say, Soprano in middle school choir, and then don't keep up with singing for long enough to allow their voice to mature and settle. Like... this poll isn't gonna be an actual indicator of the distribution of adult voice types, and that's fine.

Can they sing?
For a certain value of sing, yes.
Loki has a cannon singing voice, so here you go.
Arkham-Eeeehhhhhhh, yeah? But his voice is rough and his range is very limited. He's more of a 'sing talk' guy. Bottom of the tenor 2 range.
Detective-Absolutely. Their singing voice is a delicate silver bell. Contratenor and higher.
YJ-Yeah actually, and he's damn good once given a little encouragement. His voice is a bit sharp, not in the notes but in the quality. Tenor 2 through 1, but with a stratospheric falsetto.
Helix-Of course! She can even harmonize with herself, but it's a magic trick. Vocal quality is inconsistent. Mezzo-soprano through contralto.
Swag-Well enough, but not spectacular. Likes the challenge of rap. Nasal quality, a little thin. Tenor 2 through baritone 1.
Puzzles-Surprisingly wide vocal range. top notes of bass 1 through tenor 1, great falsetto. Singing voice is fairly thick in quality.
Narci-Voice of an angel. Light and airy, tenor 1 through contratenor and higher. Overlaps quite a bit with Helix's range.
Nash-When his voice finishes changing he develops into a high baritone, but also finds the complexity of rap to be an intellectual challenge, so is more of a speaker than singer.
