Transformers Cyberverse: Megatron is My Hero Review (Patreon Review for Brotoman.exe)
Hello all you happy autobots. If you've been missing my look at more than meets the eye, don't worry as we're back with some robots in disguise. Transformers ONE is here and it is incredible and while i'll gladly review it next week for now we're looking at something related, another look at Megatron as he broke bad, the Transformers Cyberverse episode, Megatron is My Hero.
Transformers Cyberverse is a series I tried but could not get into. I loved animated, tried prime but fell behind on it, and fresh off getting into MTMTE I very much wanted more Transformers. I tried the first ep.. but it's just bumblbee using the radio gimmick and Windblade being the straight man.
Cyberse's problems, as I expected and tv tropes helpfully confirmed come from executive mandates: exceutive swanted Bumblbeee to have his car gimmick from the movies, which dosen't work nearly as well when you can't lisence songs or car commericals for it, the heavy flashbacks. These were ditched with season 2 and apparently the show picke dup from there so i'm more than happy to give it a full look at some point, as it does seem to get genuinely better and has an arc focusing on my boy hot rod. That alone is enough.
For now we're looking at an early episode under the cut as Bumblbee makes friends, gets throat crushed and otherwise is kind of an accesory in his own memories
We begein with Bumblebee is in his mind palace , which I suspect was a way to let bee talk normally before doing away with the voice box gimmick the second they could in season 2. He's reliving his past memories of Megatron and opens with Bee in the past chilling with Shockwave of all bots as they watch Megatron easily win as a gladiator.
Megatron as a gladiator happens in way more continuties than I realized which I found out thanks to reddit, starting wtih the UK G1 comics and continuing into both IDW continuties , the alligned continuity and more. I mostly associate it with IDW where he went from miner to gladiator hero. It's a backstory I like, that he was a hero of the people.. but in a way that still kept him down as like gladiators of old he has little choice
Here it's santized slightly being more like pro wrestling, though Megatron still beats the crap out of his opponent, gladly working the crowd. Bumblbee also high fives Shockwave, an image I will never forget and will treasure forever.
So Bumblebee declares Megaton is his Hero and this annoys his mind palace roomate Windblade. Windblade is a recent addition to the franchise, being added in the idw comics but quickly appearing in cyberverse and elsewhere. She's a cityspeaker, who can talk to city sized transformers and is generally pretty goo din the comics. In this season she's more an overprotective big sister and gets mad at an amnesiac for not remembering his greatest foe sucks dirty ass in thunderstorms. So she gestures him to a ... memory of Megatron holding a rally.
Rather than talking about his good friend hanniballectertron, Megatron is a good politican with an actual point: that cybertron needs to be better and optimus and co are all behind him.. literally and figuratively.
So to help the next memory... abrubtly skips to Megatron being awful.
Yeah this is what happen when you DEMAND the writers make every episode self contained yet also part of a larger story.. in 11 minutes. Hasbro.. thought none of this through and as such the crew kinda had to speed run his origin, which means the key pieces that make Megatrons origins in IDW and One so intresting.. are missing. We don't know WHY he went from a beloved politican to having his minons torture people and a tense conversation with optimus. Marc Thompson does a good job as Megs, easily.. but he dosen't really get filled out. He just goes from seeming genuine and helpful to
He COULD have been faking, true.. but we never get that. Or any sense at least in this episode WHY he's like this. I get it's from Bee's perspective, but we know Bee looked up to him, genuinely idolzied him and we could've gotten some insight into who megs is and why he became the monster he did thorugh how he handled bumblbee's disllusionment. Instead by the time we catch up Bee's already mildly scared of the guy. We miss a whole chapter of Megs life that explains why shit is this bad for him just in his villian later chilling and vaugely threatning optimus and bee.
That said the crew still did their best and the final scene.. is genuinely chilling. It's also one Windblade is TRYING to keep from Bee, wanting him to stop digging as she apparently just realized "Shit he'll probably relive the worst moment of his life" as it involves megatron.. and thus Bee directly looks for it.l
Bee was on a mission for the autobots early in the war when , despite his best efforts he was captured and taken directly to Megatron. Megatron is at his best all episode here: he offers bee a choice, making a case for how the strong must rule and all that jazz. Well okay maybe not that Jazz he's on the Autobots but Megatron is working on him. Bee refuses.. and Megatron shifts, revealing his evil plan and i'ts chilling: to make EVERY cybertronian a decepticon wether they want it or not. Peace through Tyranny. It works well.. and it makes what he does next chilling.. so Bee dosen't tell anyone.. he crushes his throat. And while we don't SEE most of it, we hear it and it.. is chilling
Bee takes it in stride, restored in who megatron was.. and okay with it. He can talk in his brain at least.. and talk and talk and.. maybe shut up now please?
Megatron is my hero is .. okay. That last scene does most of the lifting, but i'ts a hint at what the show COULD be and apparently is after this point. It's very much a one sccene an done high five episode but at 11 minutes it wasn't painful either. It was just kinda there. Still it does have me curious about the rest of the series at least so that's.. something. Thanks for reading

The I Dream of Twilight Sparkle Index
Since Tumblr seems to have broken much of the sidebar functionality at least on redux sites. I thought I'd move all important links to it's own post.
I Dream of Twilight Sparkle FAQ #1 - FAQ for more general stuff from early on in the blog
I Dream of Twilight Sparkle FAQ #2 (Secrets of the Dragon's Tear edition) - FAQ related to a large story that impacts almost all recent posts since 2021
Mod Blog - Go here to ask the mod/me questions if you're ever curious or just want to get to know me (I also have a Discord account and/or server you can join if that's a preferable. Though I'll have that now as a simply ask me if you want to contact me there.
Ain't Never Had Friends Like Us - A group blog focused on specifically genie ponies. Although as of recent kind of low on new exclusive posts. I also reblog most Genie Twilight posts here
Geniequestria - A brand new genie pony story that's on the more more mature side starring a genie version of the evil Starlight Glimmer from Season 5. It'll never go as far as to show or describe explicit acts, but there may be plenty of implications of not so family-friendly stuff sprinkled throughout.
Episode Responses - Back when Friendship is Magic I did weekly episode reponses to most episodes between Season 3 and Season 9. Not all episodes were responded to especially Season 9-wise. But here's an index of each season's tag
Season 3 - Season 4 - Season 5
Season 6 - Season 7 - Season 8 - Season 9
Specials - These are particular important, special, or otherwise noteworthy parts of IDOTS history that I want to give special spotlight to. They range from important plot point stories, to simply fun moments between some characters.
Origin Story - How it all began! How Twilight became a genie, and chose to stay one in the first place
Twixie Genies Crossover (And Reunion) - Some crossovers between the unfortunately defunct Twixie Genies blog and my Genie Twilight!
Mane 6 Genie Simulation - Twilight putting the rest of the Mane 6 through the Genie Simulation for the first time. A temporary genie transformation that allowed them to feel what it's like to be a genie, without any of the responsibility of power.
Genie Sickness Arc - A month long arc that had Twilight become sick and eventually has to ask Discord to help
Motherly Revelation/Anniversary - The moment where Twilight and Spike adopted eachother as Mother and Son in the blog's continuty. Prepare for d'awww's.
I Dream of TwiDash - The moment where Twilight and Rainbow Dash realized they loved eachother very much and will have plenty of children an- Phbbbbt, not actually. This was an April Fools special I did for fun. Although, you could say I did actually go through with something like this for real over on Ain't Never Had Friends Like Us...
Mother's Day Special - A special starring Twilight's mother, Twilight Velvet. Some details I admit I'd retcon if I had done the story more recently. But at the time there was barely anything known about Twilight's mom. So alot of it was just personal headcanon of Twi's mom's personality and such.
Trixie Reunion - Trixie returns to Ponyville to inform Twilight of her intention to move here. Twilight and Trixie are on better terms between eachother then Twilight and Trixie were in Season 6 of the show. Hence why she had no problem with Trixie in the No Second Prances episode response.
Return to Saddle Arabia - The first major text story of the blog! Twilight and Spike return to Saddle Arabia for the first time since Twilight was genified. They find lots of new friends... but also a very dangerous enemy.
Genie Ember-lation - A simple Genie simulation sequence done between my Genie Twi and a friend of mine's OC
Secrets of the Dragon's Tear - An even larger text story that seeks to answer many unanswered questions leftover from the end of Friendship is Magic in the I Dream of Twilight Sparkle universe. And take things to a bold new direction that have impacted this blog ever since. Just a heads up, this is a LOOOOOOOOOONNNNG story.
Pinkie Pear Pie - Are Applejack and Pinkie Pie actually related in the I Dream of Twilight Sparkle universe? Read this, and you'll find out!
Starlight's Sisterly Simulation - Twilight performs the genie simulation on Starlight Glimmer again, this time without a reluctant Trixie.
IDOTS Stories - More one-shot stories (Though it also contains the chapters of Earnest Empathetic Change) that either take place or are related to events to Secrets of the Dragon's Tear
Earnest Empathetic Change - 10 Years after Twilight took sole rule in Canterlot, Starlight is tasked with reforming none other than Queen Chrysalis. Can she thaw the ice cold queen's heart?

El heard Will encourage Mike’s ‘I love you’ + heard him talk about sending her to Pennhurst.
And this is the proof. In S1, while Hopper and Joyce had gone to find Will, the party stayed in the school gym. Right as they left, Nancy and Jonathan had a chat far enough from the kids that they were out of their hearing range. This was the conversation:
Lucas, El and Dustin seemed bored/tired, but Mike was antsy. He then went to find Nancy to no avail - and the rest of the party was as clueless as he was about Nancy and Jonathan’s whereabouts. Except Eleven. Mike asked her “What? Did you see them? Do you know where they went?” Eleven answered his last question with a ‘Yes’, but as we saw her she had just been resting and had no reason to be specifically spying on Nancy and Jonathan through the void. They were out of everyone’s hearing range except hers. I believe it is safe to assume that Eleven’s hearing is more enhanced than anyone else’s.
And if it is, then she heard Will encourage Mike’s ‘I love you’. Not only that, but she also heard Mike’s plan to send her to Pennhurst so they could focus on finding Will once again. The ONLY way she didn’t hear these two events is if this is a continuity error. But here are some examples about how consistent the writers have been, specifically in regards to S1 and S4: 1. Pennhurst was brought up again in S4, they did not forget the name of this asylum, as it is where Victor Creel resides. 2. In S4, we saw the music box that Eleven found in Nancy’s room. Robin specifically brought our attention to it. 3. Nancy and Robin dressing up, Nancy specifically dressing Robin up in a pink dress to go talk to Victor Creel was a callback to Eleven being dressed up by the boys in a pink dress in S1. A prison guard even called them ‘pretty’, the same way Eleven was also called ‘pretty’. 4. In S1, Hopper asked a woman he spent one night with ‘Do you ever feel cursed?’ foreshadowing Vecna’s Curse in S4, and in S4 he essentially comes full circle to this question by answering it with ‘I realized I’m not cursed, I am the curse’, creating continuity and a deep revelation into his internal thoughts. 5. The writers were even consistent about Mike and Jonathan’s roles when preparing Eleven’s sensory depravation tank. Mike took care of the hose while Jonathan helped Hopper with the salt. And these are just the examples I’m mentioning right now for CONTINUTY, because there are a lot of examples of S1 FORESHADOWING S4 as well. The writers WANTED us to remember S1. They WANTED us to analyze it, to think about it and connect the two seasons. My next analysis will focus on S2 and Mike and Will’s relationship in S1.

Portuguese Kacy geeking out, but do you watch the episodes on Fox?
Tonight ep 20 aired and I really like the translation decisions made in the last scene.
First the part about the "I've been seeing..." it's more clear that Lucy has been going somewhere (Kahuna) and not seeing someone.
And secondly, and most important, they used "amava" instead of using the past tense. which gives more of that continuty feeling, nothing that stayed just in past but something that happened in the past and keeps happening.
thanks for letting me dump my thoughts here.
Heyoooo 🙌 haven't been watching it on Fox, no. I'm still really annoyed at them that it took them so long to air the pilot again and the reruns order has been all out of whack 😆
Buuuut now I'll definitely check it out. Even if hearing the verb "amar" always feels like getting hurled across the room by a sledgehammer.

Thinking about many versions for Subnauts (Psychonauts x Pokemon Continuty with the Subway Bosses Ingo & Emmet)
Spoilers more for Pokemon Legends: Arceus than Psychonauts games. Do be warned if you are a Submas fan with no knowledge of psychonauts if you would follow on other post for these variants.
1. venusianpeach subnauts version where the twins get to be agents. They get their own missions but have the chance to be mentors post-pn2. They have fun Duo-Mindscapes! Another track leads to a station that at some point Ingo gets eeby-deebied to RoR instead of the past. Not sure if it is connected or will be connected with the version with mentor thing OP has, but hey here we get to see the whimsy and angst tone that both games have aha
2. AU where we take pokemon characters and fit them into the Psychonauts setting. That’s what #1 is but here I’m thinking of like, they are not necessarily connected with the Psychonauts Organization. More of like if they were in this world, what would their job be like?
(Of course there is like a mix of 1 & 2. mostly my interpretation of submas in this would be that they are informant/stationed at new york city equivalent at those times. Each train station is a safe place spies could get info or supplies from. Also twins being positive image for psychics working for the safety and transportation for the public that are not necessarily spies)
3. Actual AU where it is a merge of Pokemon setting with Psychonauts world. Pokemon and Psychics exists. A totally new world really... Theres the struggle of accepting pokemon, and then there is the struggle of accepting psychics. Both have the potential to be so helpful but also so harmful.
4. Crossover where Ingo gets transported from the Pokemon World to Psychonauts world. Again, I’ve thought of two version of this:
First is that Ingo gets transported there instead of hisui, and somehow PLA events happen there kinda? PLA MC sure do be seeking something while also fixing dimension rifts along with other characters that are more willing to help in this kind of situation huh....
Second is that somehow in an attempt to go to the right time and place with the help of the PLA MC, something goes wrong (I imagine it to be some sort of distortion world interferance) and it sends both of them across another dimension without pokemon but with psychics. This is a whole set of problems as there doesn’t seem to be a way to connect with Arceus to rescue them. Another home lost, lost in another place....
5. waywardstation & co ’s Train of Thought AU [chrono]. Not an Psychonauts x Submas crossover but it is mindscape Shenanigans! Set in Pokemon Legends: Arceus setting only. Just wanted to share if you happen to be interested in both fandoms.
6. Other potentials
Commonality with all of these is that characters must be shaped and infest our brain with house much we love them. Oh and that seemingly lighthearted tone only to be ambushed with the dark and angst potential behind it. Humans on both worlds are built different and yet we take them on with our knowledge of living in glee and suffering.

watching Kenobi and thinking things like “but if they met before, Leia would have used a different tone in her message to Obi-Wan in ANH. And she would have been more upset than Luke, even, when he died”
but
the original Star Wars movies somehow managed to hit a spot in the cultural subconscious that’s similar to greek myth in its epic scope and level of unrealistic shit happening that you just take as given because that’s how the story works. And all this new stuff honours that by being just as disjointed and lacking continuty as any mythology worth its salt. It’s like how there’s no ultimate King Arthur, there’s just a rough outline that people weave their own stories into and each story contradicts the previous one or doesn’t gel with that other one you read because the writers themselves play as fast and loose with canon as any writer on AO3 might feel free to. Honestly at this point it might be best to approach Star Wars by just entirely ignoring the whole concept of continuity. You have the rough outlines of the characters and a few defining moments but aside from that, don’t busy yourself with petty thoughts like “but this directly contradicts what they said in a previous episode” - after all deliberate retconning and fudging with canon is a star wars tradition as old as ESB.
#I just feel lucky that I trained myself in non-continuity viewing of series by being a fan of MASH#you know from back in the day before they invented the entire concept of continuity#a side benefit is this really strengthens the buffet style approach to fandom#just pick out the things you like and ignore the rest it all doesnt make a lick of sense either way#not sure if I consider any of this new tv show stuff The Truth about star wars but that doesn't matter any more#I'm just vibing with it for now and that serves me just fine#also kid leia is hecking adorable

Do you have a sort of wishlist for what you want SR5 to be? Especially in terms of story?
*arrives 9 hours later with starbucks in my hand*
Oh yes, I had so many, but I stopped caring so much except for few things I specifically want just so I wouldn't be disappointed when it doesn't turn out that way lmfao
My original (and favorite one) was the Prodigy storyline. I like SRIV and how the game ends, its story addresses a lot of the issues SRTT had despite its over the top aliens and earth destruction plots so I wouldn't like that game to be completely retconned and made non canon, so I thought a perfect way to continue the story in the same timeline (not too fond of reboots with same cast and partial retcons) is to introduce a storyline featuring a new cast running the Saints after the Boss and their main crew became got elected as president (a perfect 6 year gap between SRTT and SRIV has a lot of place for content) but I kinda realize that its not perfect and not everyone likes it because of the pending doom (whatever you do you always know the progress will be wiped when earth gets destroyed)
So my second runner up and what I think is universally best is a complete reboot. Brand new cast, brand new city, brand we main character. I do believe that's whats best for the series, the lead writer for the game left the studio and Volition has always been... less than capable when it comes to continuty. I'd rather then introduce new characters and try to keep them constant instead of Kinzie Miller, chinese Shaundi, and Mary Sue Gat. Kind of a controversial take, but I have faith any new characters have a chance to be as much lovable as the old cast was.
The series just in such a mess of a state I don't see anything except a full reboot working well without being cheesy.
What about yours, anon (and anyone else reading this lol)?

every now and then i get back on a religion kick and i just get...... so frustrated about jason todd's 100% lack of any mention of spiritual thought...... when he was one of the like absolutely verified dead characters who somehow was resurrected completely irrelevant from intention or outside influence..... and once had a driving force he 'knew' was his purpose for being revived but now that the lazarus is wearing off he no longer is certain and is trying to figure his shit out.
like.......... ok i'm not like expecting DC to go on a full-on introspection journey via religion, neil gaiman isn't exactly writing this shit anymore, i get it; the most they'll say is that tim is athiest because being disillusioned from the violence is an acceptable stance to put forward.
but you literally have a kid who was mysteriously resurrected to fulfill a purpose, in some continuties lived at a secwet monestawy for a while, and has hopped multiverses to see them created and destroyed, and seen multiples gods discredited or revealed to just be aliens
i'm just saying
let the boy..... wonder a little....

A goblin tech priestess i drew some months back; she's meant for my own AUs and story continuties and isn't mean to fit into any established canon, but she is visually based upon the Adeptus Mechanicus of warhammer 40k. Off the top of my head, she's from a society that regards technological devices as sort of self-contained spiritual ecosystems; their theological is largely animistic and holds that all components or things that might be thought of such have their own spirit. A technological device is many things, working together as one, so it is in a sense an ecosystem, whether a complicated mechanical weapon, or an interconnected group of systems. It is common among those like her to deliberately get cybernetics as a show of faith and self-improvement; in her case, it was likely also the result of accidents and adventurous injuries!

Definetly sis! Neither Damian or Dick feel so closer at the beginning, but it was im Batman and Robin (2009) were that changed.
Dick feels responsible for Damian at the beginning and Damian feels like Dick was trying to imitate his father and it wasn't good with that.
At the end both grown on each other and definetly became the closest bond in the family talking about being brothers.
But I don't think he has a favorite, I think Dick loves all of his brother equally, but after spending too much time with Damian, he found a little bit more comfort on him.
He even thought on Damian almost like a son and Damian obvously loves Richard and is his favorite. Their bond is one of the truly and beautiful things that you could still see in the main continuty even after a decade.
Yknow how in some fics, dick can be seen going full older brother on damian? I don't mind it but I don't remember it in the comics. Like mainly with tim, fics depict dick favouring damian over tim. But in comics, I'm pretty sure dick reprimands damian for his behaviour towards tim? I feel like damian is less "dicks favourite brother uwu" and more a kid dick feels responsible for and dick's oldest sister syndrome kicking in the wake of bruce's "death".
Are there comics where dick and damian behave like they do in most fics?
Secondary ques: who do you think is dicks fave brother?
Dick does indeed act plenty brotherly towards Damian in the comics! It's no coincidence that they're the two always paired up in the family; they're closer with each other than they are with the other siblings. I wouldn't call it favoritism so much as that they were each other’s Batman and Robin for a long time, so they work incredibly well as partners and Dick has become a brother/father/mentor/friend figure for Damian. Dick is always there to help Damian, comfort him, and guide him whenever he needs it:
Batman (2016) #33
Nightwing (2016) #20
Batman (2016) #34
Batman and Robin (2011) #12
Robin (2021) #5
As for Dick reprimanding Damian for how he treats Tim, that is...somewhat true? Dick does his best to rein Damian in, but he also understands the root of Damian’s resentment towards Tim (that he feels unaccepted by the family and resents Tim for being loved more by Bruce despite not being his biological son like Damian is) and treats them both accordingly:
Red Robin #14
And while Dick definitely has his faults with keeping Damian in check when it comes to Tim, he does try to keep the peace between them:
Red Robin #1
Red Robin #13
I don’t necessarily think Dick has a “favorite” sibling, even if he does spend more time with Damian than the others. The only one I could say for sure is that Jason is probably not Dick’s favorite, just because of their history of having to fight each other all the time lmao. I also don’t think Dick sees Damian as just this kid he’s responsible for, at least not anymore. It definitely started out that way, but Dick has grown to truly love Damian over time.

I am delaying writing all these down because it is not cliche but really hard to express.
The first punch waking me up was when I realize that my crush, who I believe to have been in the same sense as me, turned out to like my best friend. I still remembered the uncomfortable sense creeping in my stomach when the very sign appeared when he rode her home that Sunday. I did not know what to do, another lessom was learnt, just as before: the inner world of one person is misterious, unknown as well as uncountable to you. When I realized my friend liked him, I did hope that he would not like her back. But the flirting increases, chemical turned into physical word, my heart followed all the way down with my fantasies into the ground (and it could have sought negativity), yet my mental maturity rose in slowness getting through each battlefields with negativity. Confilcts wore out my physical strength, and I fell into vulnerability. My vulnerability was not attached to desperation, that was the reason why I were not really fully awared of it while being in the process.
I used to think that we liked each other in silence, without any move because we were waiting for our time to come. But I, always felt grateful for what had happened. I knew him better and finally that story came to an end. I used to think that I would stick to him because we met each other firstly, I would never give my heart away for anyone unless this story officially came to an end. I was shocked and in pain for a little while. But I thought that at least he would not be " the one", something collapsed I could have not yet to be gotten used to, but I would soon got better. The grey of dust, the fragment of belief, vestige of beauty which I have had obstinately retained in this inner world. I have the whole civilization inside, which was built largely with the motivation of romantic love and my love for the knowledge and wise. In one whole year, my inner world went through different stages, through different clashes of inner and outer elements, through different settlements, constructing, burning, reliving, recreating... However, in each movements of the inside culture, I always spared a safe place for you. If you could have had been there at your time, you would have seen a place of wild changing with the conception of yours stayed unchanged. When this conception broke, I saw everything turning down, I walked outside, hardly wrote since then. My world ran cold but I draw myself out to give the healing it needs by the belief that there would be someone true coming and by the continuty of the outside world.

Thoughts on The Last Jedi
I will hopeful get around to posting a full, more organized review, but i need to see the movie at least twice, and preferably thriece before I do that. This is just my unfiltered thought. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
-Hey look Kylo Ren got some character development. I still hate him.
-Hux is the Umbridge of the SW universe.
-Luke.
-I have mixed feelings on Luke.
-Did I mention I don’t know how I feel about Luke.
-Hey look, J.J. Gramcracker isn’t directing this movie! Win!
-Rian Johnson doesn’t know how to direct force effects.
-They should have either killed off Leia or cut out the space walker screen and found another way to injure her.
-Seriously guys, that was the worst scene in the whole movie.
-That was hard vacuum.
-I’m sorry but Leia’s dead.
-Kylo Ren’s voice kills any tension that the movie built.
-His face does too.
-Did I mention I still hate Kylo Ren.
-Cuz I hate Kylo Ren.
-The intro crawl built up tension that was immediately destroyed by Poe.
-Rose is the least Star Wars name to ever Star Wars.
-I like Rose.
-I hope she doesn’t die.
-Did they film the mine scene in Oklahoma?
-Hux.
-MOTHER FUCKING YODA
-Yoda is best character.
-Rey is in this.
-This movie looses points for that.
-I don’t hate her, I’d just prefer if she wasn’t there.
-This is a rehash of 5&6.
-The mirror scene.
-Best scene.
-I love that scene.
-Did I mention how much I despise Hux?
-Sith continuty
-Snoke is one ugly mofo.
-Also why. Why gold.
-That robe.
-Gross.
-Ok, I’ll admit it. Ren’s kinda a badass.
-An annoying badass.
-Ice foxes.
-Hyena horses.
-Casino world tho.
-Basically all the characters in this movie are still unlikable assholes.
-Except Rose.
-I’m still not over Leias Superman scene.

Additional thinking out loud
More spoilery “Fulgent Engineering” musings, this time about the chronology.
So for various reasons involving the timeline on MacGyver*, I’ve decided he leaves the Surface in late spring 1994. There seems no particular reason why he shouldn’t end up exactly a hundred years previous when he enters the Neath (there will be an explanation for why the time travel happens. Eventually). A couple of months while he’s working his passage across the Elder Continent and serving on his first ship, then I think the Clipper’s various adventures take a little more than a year or so…Fruits of the Zee 1894 to Hallowmas 1895, perhaps? Something like that.
I’m leaving the dates loose because I really have no good idea for how long the Clipper’s various voyages take (in a zee of uncertain size, voyages inevitably travel at the speed of plot; which is no doubt deliberate on Failbetter’s part). But I think this is compatible with the few points I have firmly laid down. There’s a gap between Book I and Book II during which they spend several months doing the sunlight-smuggling run (not an easy job in a cutter, though it can be done; I tested the principle thoroughly. But it is slow.) The point I’ve reached as of the time of this writing, the opening of Book II, is set a couple of months after Neathmas. At a later point the ship’s company all get to enjoy a Fruits of the Zee festival, and some indefinite time after that the Tireless Mechanic ends up in Frostfound.
Huh. That was more straightforward than I’d thought.
*Reasons involving my need to write the two TV movies out of continuity; both of these aired in 1994. So “Fulgent Engineering” is what he’s doing instead. More on MacGyver continuty below the cut if you’re still interested.
I try to stick to MacGyver continuity very strictly (probably more than anyone’s ever going to notice, if I’m being honest with myself; I am reasonably certain the fandom is even smaller than the Failbetter one), but both movies were shot in London and take full advantage of this for their shooting locations. Having a Surface-London-on-the-Thames is simply unworkable in a Failbetter crossover, so they had to go.
(There was a previous episode set in what was supposedly London, but as it was shot in Canada and looked like Canada and had Canadians attempting cod English accents, I think I can safely rationalise that away. It’s obviously a town built on the edge of This Big Whopping Hole Where London Used To Be that was built to cash in on the tourists.
Since I’m on the subject of continuity deletions…I might as well mention that I’m also ignoring the series finale, in which Our Hero resigns from the Phoenix Foundation and learns he’s got a twenty-something son whose existence he never knew about.
The second development squicks me for various reasons (the redoubtable MacBeth, who’s penned even more words about the Innocent Spy than I have, has written reams of fic trying to explain how that happened in a non-disturbing fashion. But still.
Though now I’ve mentioned her, I have to say this: MacBeth’s written the best non-crossover MacGyver fic extant, bar none. And a smashing crossover with Stargate to boot. She does expect you to have a working knowledge of the programme you’re reading fic about, but I tend to regard that as a virtue.)
Anyway, the Tireless Mechanic tells you he doesn’t have kids when he introduces himself. End of.
The first development just kinda ruins the entire premise of my fic. So that’s out the window too.
Instead I figure that he’s just been keeping up with post-Cold War spying as best he can in the intervening years, probably with increasing trepidation about the day when he’s old enough that he has to accept the inevitable sidelining to a desk job (the list of injuries RDA sustained in the course of making the series is…alarming, and he wasn’t getting shot on a yearly basis to boot).
Lucky for the Spy that he gets assigned to this wacky Neath place!

Sorry about the question of asking if first love and taking one for the team were in the same continuty as Requiem, saw Emmas name and I just wondered if they were
Oh, yeah, I use Emma’s name (from Taking one for the team) and also Ryan’s (from First Love), but that doesn’t mean anything, really. I just thought it be a nice wink to those who read my other stories!

I personally like the idea of a massive flood forcing most of the population off the tiny island. Sonic would come to have his canonical hydrophobia and end up liking the world off his tiny island so much he just had to explore. Then Eggman's attacks begin and he just... Hasn't thought of going back between saving the world and meeting all his friends. He definetely sends souvenirs back home tho... thats my ideal Sonic backstory if wee aren't bringing any other continuty but the games in
I've heard a loy of theories about Christmas Island over the years from Sonic just having moved away from his birthplace when he was too young to remember to Sonic being a runaway or an outcast, all the way down to sime tragedy happening like a flood or Eggman's first assault being Christmss Island anf it wiping out the entire population except Sonic... which ones do you like?
The official explanation from STI’s files is that whilst Sonic was born there, it was his love of adventure that called him away from his birthplace. So I guess what can be inferred from that is that the island was too small and boring to satisfy his thirst for thrills. Bad case of small town boredom?
I personally like the idea that he was a runaway. I still like to headcanon that he stole the Tornado from his birth parents and used it to get off Christmas Island.
