A Summary of The OFMD Meta
Sooooo... this is part one of an incomplete summary of A Meta-Discussion Of The Subtext by meratrishoslee (Mera) on AO3 (linked to, as the author requests). I hope it’s helpful to the folks who’ve been curious about it -- heyooo @fahbee and @pushbuttonkitty -- but maybe not quite 90K-words curious! I’m not going to comment on anything; this is meant to be an impartial -as-possible summary.
It's massively long, so this is just the first eight chapters.
“There’s every possibility you are still in your feelings as you read this, even weeks after the finale. You are in your autonomous knee-jerk reaction, adrenaline-spike, slapped across the face, feeling-so-betrayed-right-now moment. You’re valid. That’s absolutely what’s happened… on the surface. But as you take a deep breath and begin to examine logically what’s in the show and engage with the material both in its text and subtext, you will see a new concept begin to take shape.” (Mera)
Chapter 1: Overview
Some background: Mera was involved with The Johnlock Conspiracy and believes that TJLCers weren’t wrong. (If you want a fun watch, I recommend Sarah Z’s YouTube video.) Essentially, TJLCers believe that Sherlock and Watson of BBC’s Sherlock were supposed to be endgame, and this can be proved with careful analysis. This is often paired with the idea that there is a missing fourth episode to the show’s fourth season that will eventually air and confirm all theories.
Mera defines ‘text’ and ‘subtext.’ Text is “dialogue lines / Shot choices and directions / Visible actions, describable as stage directions.” Subtext is “every single other thing, as well as what is suggested by or can be inferred from the text above.”
“Whenever something doesn’t make sense in the text, it is a BEACON (or maybe even a LIGHTHOUSE) to look at the subtext. Your subconscious mind recognizes subtext long before your conscious mind parses it -- assuming it ever does.”
The rest of the chapter is devoted to short descriptions of Mera’s key assertions with links to relevant chapters and their convention experiences. They cite talking to Con O’Neill at Florida Supercon 2023 as one of their reasons for believing so strongly that Izzy Hands is alive:
I asked him for advice in a specific time of trouble, and he gave me something real that had worked for him. I asked for a hug and he gave that also.
As I was pulling away I said "I’m glad that I gleaned one absolutely true thing from your portrayal of Izzy."
“What’s that?”
I said: "The character (in my original work) that Izzy inspired – when he’s out of pain at last, it’s impossible not to love him."
That seemed to hit him on an emotional level; he couldn’t hold my gaze after that.  He said “That’s what Ill be taking with me today.”
This was July 1st 2023, after completion of the filming of Season 2.  I've thought about it often as the season went on, and how it must have affected him.
We have to love Izzy so that he'll live.
Mera spoke to Con again at NYCC:
The last thing I managed to get to say to him was: "They gave Izzy Hands a Passion Play."
"They did?" he asked.
"Yes, they did!" I replied.
And I watched that brilliantly swift mind again at work, because he considered it for the briefest beat -- and said in a tone of joy: "They did; yeah, you're right!"
I remember for the minutes and hours after I was amazed: did he not know, somehow? Did the writers not tell him (and he didn't realize at any time since) that in first quarter of the series they'd given him Gethsemane, a betrayal, a crucifixion (okay, getting shot in the leg and head, but don't get stuck on the details), a burial, and then a full on canonical resurrection?
Con then said another very important thing:
"But I got over it."
[...]
If Izzy's dead (for real and forever dead) and he knew it, then what he said to me was on a level of cruelty that I could never countenance from him. If Izzy lives, then those words are yet another piece of proof to me that Con was clever enough to be right both for someone who'd only seen five episodes, and someone who would eventually see all eight.
Chapter 2: The Cup and Ball Trick
The chapter is an extended “game” of cup and ball (where a ball is hidden under a cup and the guesser needs to determine which cup it’s under) interspersed with pictures from OFMD at various points in season two. It ends on a shot of Izzy’s grave where his body definitely isn’t.
The important takeaway: Izzy returns from the dead once to shoot Ed during Ed’s final suicide attempt. Ed returns from the dead after the near-fatal mutiny. Why would you think Izzy’s actually dead and in his grave at the end of the show?
“I didn't cry at the finale -- I was too filled with joy and excitement. I was Mary Magdalene at the grave; I was one of the first to know the truth of the resurrection, whether or not anyone believed me!”
Chapter 3: OUR LOVE MEANT DEATH
"..because if [Izzy] doesn't [live], with what I know now, his death is a cruelty struck at every queer individual alive or dead since 1981.”
Mera observes that almost no one touches Izzy’s bare skin and Izzy bleeds more than any other recurring character.
There are two times someone touches Izzy’s bare skin: first when his screams are being muffled when he yells at Jim and Archie to kill him, second when Ed puts the gun in Izzy’s ungloved hand during his first go at suicide.
Conclusion: "Izzy is coded with AIDS.”
Ed holding his bloody hand up to the rest of the crew away when Izzy is dying is a “warding-off gesture.”
Izzy is pale and sickly-looking as he’s dying. “My gorge rises. In the year of our Lord Shiva 2023 -- THEY GAVE THE MOST QUEER CODED CHARACTER ON THE SHOW A FUCKING AIDS DEATH.”
Izzy touches someone else’s bare skin twice in the show, and both instances are Ed. The first is in S1E10 “where he puts his left Death-marked hand on Edward's wrist as he's choking him.” The second is in S2E8 as he’s dying “in his ex-lover’s arms” (notably, this is the same hand with the spade tattoo).
“If Izzy's well and truly dead, for real and stays dead... He is in media both the first historically and the most recent chronologically to receive a full on AIDS death.”
“Until they prove to me and all of us that only Izzy's grief and the specter of AIDS remains in the grave -- and the rest of our beloved boy, our new unicorn (oh hey do you know what Problematic Modern Culture says about unicorn blood?), our pure-hearted risen being, our self-sacrificing queer man, will get his chance to be touched, held, kissed, and LOVED in Season 3.”
Chapter 4: “The Third Was For Death”
“Season 1 was Pinocchio: a wooden puppet wants to become a real boy -- and does!  Hip hip hooray; that was pretty easy.  Wow, the cute tall young guy of the crew lost a finger and the mean nasty short grouch that some people hate and some people like (because they understand him on a visceral, subconscious, subtextual level) lost a toe -- but if that's the worst that happens, we came out okay!”
Season two is “The Monkey’s Paw.” Mera tells the story with pictures from OFMD to emphasize the connections. Importantly, there’s an instance of a couple’s son coming back wrong after a wish (Lucius). The final wish returns the son to his previously-dead state and Mera ends on a picture of Izzy’s grave.
The cast’s and crews’ interviews might not support the real narrative because they’re not allowed to say what they want to (“Ever had to develop code language to hide your queerness from your parents, your teachers, the state?”) They’re all “in distress” and trying to tell us without telling us.
“Why does the new (old broken down) house smell like death? Why does everything we wished for that we got feel bad? Why does everything we're supposed to be happy about feel sad? How long would it take YOU to spot someone blinking out the word T-O-R-T-U-R-E?”
Mera hopes that the next season won’t tell us certain a new story: George Orwell’s 1984.
Chapter 5: Where Were We? Oh Yes, In The Pit Of Despair
This chapter is about The Princess Bride as it relates to Izzy’s story in seasons two and three of OFMD. It’s a comparison based mostly on costumes and lines; there are no one-for-one character comparisons. Vitally, the plot of TPB is used to predict the next season of OFMD.
Season two of OFMD ends at the part of TPB when Westley is thought to be dead (Izzy in his grave). Westley is revived, soooo…
“At what point does a preponderance of evidence flip over into fact? At what point does a handful of chance coincidences become planning and architecture? At what point do you go beyond a reasonable doubt into conviction?”
Chapter 6: Birdman and Blackbeard: Or, How To Watch Media
This chapter is about analyzing media. Once you learn how, you stop being a passive watcher.
“Instead you read its rhymes and rhythms like a sonnet. You go to the media in return – you meet it halfway, like a lover. You engage with it. You find themes embedded in the subtext that, once unearthed and examined, continue to inform and expand your experience of the text.”
“The people that like things nice and easy are the ones that watched the finale of Season 2, got angry and upset and – instead of examining those feelings and sitting with them and figuring out why everything felt weird and fucky – wrote it off as bad writing and cruel showrunners, and are already onto the next piece of media to pour into their open eyes and ears.”
And that’s fine! But if you like to think, you interrogate the media and see what else it’s saying.
Mera summarizes The Hero’s Journey through the lens of Orpheus’ story.
Season two mirrors season one almost too well. “...Why are they recreating their first season almost beat by beat? Why is this “second verse, same as the first – only a little bit louder and (in many cases) worse? Then Episode 8 hit… and I realized. They wanted to make sure that, in every conceivable way, the fans had a subtextual map of the meaning of Episode 8. So the mirrors between seasons had to line up almost exactly.”
Now we go into the three-act structure and how the hero’s journey maps onto it. Mera then uses Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance) and to show how they personally analyze meta, but I don’t care nearly enough about what they’ve gleaned from Birdman to go into it here. You’ll have to go read it yourself if you want their methods.
“Remember: Everything on screen in the finished and published movie is a choice. If something doesn’t make sense on a textual level, it is often a signpost (or LIGHTHOUSE) to look at it on a subtextual level.”
Mera points to an article about three-act structure and notes that “fun and games” is both part of that author’s second act and the title of an OFMD episode.
“Are we being fucked with? Or are we being instructed?”
Chapter 7: If You Strip Away The Myth From The Man
It’s the Jesus Christ Superstar chapter and it’s massive. I’m only including the most substantial comparisons and points.
Mera starts by linking to a gifset of Con talking about Taika saying that Izzy and Blackbeard are comparable to Judas and Jesus (and then Taika and Con sang songs from JCS while getting their makeup done). Notably, Con didn’t specify which character was which.
Blackbeard is a myth created by (of) two men, Ed and Izzy. “there's always two male bodies involved: Jesus and Judas, and both sacrifice themselves to the cause.”
It’s easy to say that Izzy is Judas, but wait -- there’s a better and deeper interpretation! Look at this picture from S1 that resembles the Last Supper and frames Izzy as Jesus! “Now I finally understood. Sure: Izzy is Judas-coded. That's plain for anyone to see. But Izzy is also Jesus-coded… from the under/reverse side.”
Izzy is Jesus-coded for all of season one (even more than Ed), and the comparison is solidified by the end of S2E3: “Izzy Hands is almost fully and directly Jesus-coded, and after Ed's own resurrection (not as an agape-love self-sacrifice for the saving of others, but through selfish personal/eros love alone) Edward is now obviously the betrayer of the whole crew who is permitted to stay aboard only on terms of sackcloth clothing and uneasy tolerance.”
Judas died by hanging himself according to the Gospel of Matthew. The only characters we see hanging are Ed and Stede, which clearly aligns them with Judas.
Izzy is a good person. He cares about the crew; Ed never does. When Izzy’s wrong, he fesses up to it and apologies; Ed does not (or when he does, the apologies are bad). “Does he lie?  Yes, ostensibly to protect his captain and crew. Is he fairly mean to the Revenge crew until they [...] become his crew? Pretty much, although I could argue otherwise in places -- especially the fact that while Ed throws Lucius violently and bodily off the ship without any warning, Izzy carefully puts the crew on a safe island with a minor fuckery of his own to keep them calm and happy until he leaves. (It's obviously not Edward's idea, although he does permit Izzy to put himself between the deadly Kraken and the Revenge's crew in order to accomplish it.) Is he selfish? Yes, and who of us aren’t sometimes selfish about the people we love?”
Jesus and Judas have massive amounts of sexual tension (yeah, can confirm). Izzy is Jesus-coded because, while he doesn’t initiate contact like Jesus does in JCS, he’s always looking directly at Ed. Ed is Judas-coded because he has a hard time looking at Izzy and finds it difficult to touch him.
“...If Izzy Hands is a queer man who is Jesus-coded, who we see go through not one but TWO passion plays during Season 2... [near-death after having his leg removed, end-of-season death] he is conquering the death of HIV/AIDS and queer grief. He has to die so that he can vanquish that very real death, and arise again triumphant over it.”
“One direct correspondence with Jesus is that Izzy is convinced of one right way to be (whether or not it actually is), and everything outside of that offends him viscerally at this point in the series.” Izzy is convinced that there’s one right way to be a pirate, and Stede’s fucking that up.
And back to AIDS/reverse-Jesus Izzy: “Now among the lepers we're back to the reversal: no one touches Izzy. He’s desperate for it yet can never allow it. Jesus’s touch, kiss, love cures – and everyone seeks it and craves it. They demand it, they swamp and overwhelm him. Jesus's naked touch/kiss/love cures disease -- Izzy's carries and spreads it.”
“Judas/Edward makes his deal with the priesthood/King George to betray Jesus/Izzy – his price is 30 pieces of silver/Stede’s life.” That is, Ed is the one doing the betraying in season one.
But the real betrayal happens when he cuts off Izzy’s toe and feeds it to him while he’s vulnerable. Important note for the AIDS stuff: “...Edward puts on leather gauntlets immediately prior to this assault -- he ‘gloves up.’ He doesn't have direct naked contact with Izzy's blood or flesh during this scene.” The toe-feeding scene is absolutely framed as sexual assault.
And the toe thing continues into season two. “Sit with that also for a moment: the faux consent of making Izzy remove his own clothing to bare his body parts for this violation. Is it too far a stretch to think that Ed also made him eat each one, in their own private, gristly sacrament? He did threaten to ‘feed him the rest’ after all.”
Here is the outline of Izzy’s first “passion play”:
Izzy's Last Supper: all the toes eaten before as well as the one threatened now.
Izzy's Gethsemane, wherein he begs his God for the cup to be removed: he tries to bargain his and the crew's way out with his conversation with Blackbeard, to find an alternative to the self-destructive violence.
Izzy is betrayed by his Judas (again): shot in the leg for the 'crime' of mentioning Stede Bonnet's name, or Blackbeard's affection toward him.
Izzy descends into the grave: lays in a secret tunnel in what we can believe is the lowest part of the ship, while rotting enough to be smelled throughout.
Izzy dies: he shoots himself in the head and both we and Blackbeard believe him to be dead.
Izzy is risen: he hauls himself up out of his own grave without assistance from anyone else, crawls to the main deck, reloads his pistol somewhere along the way -- and shows himself to his followers crew at last, in order to bring about their salvation.
Con himself said that this is a passion play, and it takes up a massive chunk of the first part of the season. You don’t throw something massive like that into a show unless you’ve got something bigger coming.
But Judas dies before OFMD ends (mapping OFMD onto JCS), so now who is Ed? He’s Pontius Pilate. There’s the whipping of Jesus (Izzy’s back scars), then Pilate kneels down to hold the bleeding Jesus in his arms. It’s this specific Pieta statue.
“Izzy has to die to conquer his own living death, to end the curse that has kept him untouchable and unable to be loved as he so desperately desires.” There’s the crucifixion for you. Izzy dies and is buried, and we’re still waiting on the resurrection.
The last shot in JCS is of the empty cross; the last shot of OFMD S2 is Izzy’s grave. “If the cross in the last and arguably the most significant shot of JCS symbolizes the triumph of resurrection and rebirth... the one in OFMD S2 must also.”
Alex Sherman liked one of Mera’s Izzy Lives tweets that he was tagged in.
Chapter 8: The Dual Substance Of Christ
Now we’re looking at The Last Temptation of Christ. This is another long and involved one, so I’m cutting a lot of minor things that don’t serve the overall meta. (I also know fuck-all about this movie, oops.)
“An argument can be made (and I will attempt it) that Judas in this instance is not only the show creators/writers room of OFMD who had to put their much beloved boy Izzy Hands through all this agony... but also we the Unseen Crew who adore him, who have suffered alongside him through all he's endured, and who want nothing more than to have him back and whole in resurrected triumph.”
TLTC presents another reason to identify Lucius with Mary Magdalene (and notably, Jesus can’t touch Mary -- because Izzy is AIDS-coded). Once again, there’s an immense amount of sexual tension between Jesus and Judas.
This Jesus is angry and this God is fearsome. Judas does a lot of slamming-Jesus-into-walls, much like Ed and Izzy in S1E10.
Jesus confirms that he is a heart and he loves, which solidifies Izzy’s position as the heart of Blackbeard.
In his final trial in the desert, Jesus’ final tempter appears as flames. Izzy and Ed both play with flames when they lie.
“Izzy is pretty much Jesus-coded as I explained in the JCS meta… but here also due to the timing and content of this scene, Izzy’s also Lazarus-coded.He dies, he goes into the pit of the grave, he smells of rot, then he is raised from the dead.” Lazarus and Izzy both have a rough time of being alive again and drink about it.
Jesus says “I have to die on the cross, and I have to die willingly.” This parallels Izzy saying that he wants to go when he’s dying. Judas doesn’t want Jesus to die, which puts him more in line with Jenkins and company than any characters.
“But Izzy has to die, in order to conquer death. He’s lived with the specter of HIV/AIDS that has separated him from loving touch and the sharing of physical intimacy. He has to go into the grave to leave his disease and his queer grief behind, and to be reborn to love.”
On the cross, Jesus says, “Father, stay with me. Don’t leave me.” As he’s dying, Izzy tells Ed, “Sit with me, Eddie.”
“I feel sick, and I think I’m supposed to. It’s supposed to hurt. Both Izzy's death and Jesus's crucifixion are supposed to be two of the realest and most awful and most beautiful things I’ve ever seen on television.”
In TLTJ, there’s an extended part of the movie where Jesus is in a kind of gravy basket. The events are all kind of odd. They involve Jesus sleeping with Mary (the reborn unicorn, free of AIDS and safe to touch). Jesus returns to his body, suffers, and dies.
TLTJ doesn’t cover Jesus’ resurrection. “We have to trust what we know of the story: that Jesus is risen, and only death itself remains in his grave.”

page turners to screen dreams: adaptations from book to film
It’s hard to deny the power of a good adaptation. Growing up in a generation where there was a good ten years where I saw many of my favorite books adapted for the screen in varying degrees of ‘close enough to be enjoyed on its own’ to ‘single handedly killed the vhs industry’ (iykyk), I have an appreciation for adaptations done not-so-well. However, this also means that when a story I love is adapted well, I appreciate it all the more, two of my favorites being Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs and Henry Selick’s Coraline.
Starting with Silence, the key to this adaptation lies in the screenwriting of Ted Tally. While Thomas Harris’s ability to write interesting and three dimensional female characters who exist without being defined by the men around them is questionable, the combination of Demme’s direction, Tally’s writing, and Jodie Foster’s performance as the iconic Clarice Starling make her a fully fleshed and believably interesting character. I was a fan of the film long before reading the book, and became even more of a fan afterward reading both book and Tally’s screenplay. Some of my favorite moments in the film are ones where Tally lifted dialogue directly from the text of Harris’s novel, often with little to no change. In particular, Jack Crawford’s line “You spook easily, Starling?” has always been a moment that I enjoy, particularly because of the silence surrounding the moment as Clarice takes in the scene of Crawford’s office and the crime scene photos of the Buffalo Bill murders. This is an incredibly strong book-to-film adaptation that’s strength lies in the moments that were taken directly from the source material, and were interpreted flawlessly by Tally, Demme, and the cast as a whole. Overall, Silence is something that I would consider a near perfect interpretation of Harris’s original text, a trend that Tally continued with the screenplay for the prequel Red Dragon.
There is also the matter of changes that must be made to make a book more suitable for the screen. For this, we can look to Henry Selick’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline. While not my first Gaiman book (it was Stardust, and at 9 or 10 I was most assuredly too young to be reading it), this one remains my favorite (one day I hope to get my illustrated copy signed by both Neil himself and Chris Riddell). There would have been no way for Coraline to be on the big screen without making several changes. In the novella, most of the story is told through the titular Coraline’s inner monologue, as she spends much of the story wandering the grounds of her new home completely alone. Since spending nearly two hours watching a child talk to herself wouldn’t necessarily make for a very interesting movie - at least in this context, Selick introduced the character of Wybie. He also tied Wybie further into the story by changing one of the ghost children from - what I assume is - the child of a faerie to his grandmother’s identical twin sister. The film, while not an exact adaptation, retains every single element of Gaiman’s original story that makes the novel so intensely frightening. The changes made allow the film to be read easier on the screen, and for the audience to watch Coraline interact with the world around her in a way that feels more realistic, whether she’s in her own home or in the world of the Other Mother. Selick’s writing sells the image of a truly lonely girl, who - while surrounded by people - feels isolated in a new and unfamiliar environment across the country, and abandoned and neglected by her parents.
Adaptations, good or bad, are created to be enjoyed. While some are good enough to be considered something separate from the source material, some are certainly not (LXG I’m looking directly into your eyes). Nevertheless, I feel like the adaptations I’ve mentioned here are among the best there are.

Keyword 3: "Long-termism"
Tumblr media
I'm often asked the question, 'What changes will there be in the next ten years? 'But I'm rarely asked: 'What's going to be constant HE Tuber over the next ten years?' - I think the second question is more important than the first because you need to base your strategy on things that don't change. What an exciting principle it is to put all your resources into things that don't change.
——Amazon founder Jeff Bezos
Because of this passage, Bezos made "long-termism" well known in the business world. In today's unstable and uncertain world, "long-termism" is the "placebo" and "healing medicine" of contemporary business .
To understand "long-termism", we must first know what "long-termism" is not:
"Long-termism" is by no means superficial - insisting on doing one thing for a long time.
"Long-termism" is not about insisting on something that will not change in the long term, but about judging what is certain so you stick to it.
The opposite of "long-termism" is opportunism seeking quick success and opportunism looking for opportunities.
With the above understanding, let us construct new cognition.
1. 3 new cognitions
New Cognition 1: Why should we be a “long-termist”?
Only long-termists can " inevitably " achieve final success; non-long-termists can only achieve "accidental" success, and then fall into mediocrity due to basic probability events.
In addition, "optimism" is also a kind of long-termism, which gives you a long-term perspective. This "long-termist" has a belief in the future and a belief in continuous improvement.
New understanding 2: The long term of "long-termism" is not the length of time, but the fluctuation cycle of the development of things.
What is the fluctuation cycle of the development of things?
First of all, it is necessary to identify the "trend" of things on the timeline and distinguish between large cycles and small cycles.
Secondly, the size cycle is not a simple "time cycle" , it should be a "wonderful" conversion that pursues the final accumulation of a single action.
Finally, long-termism is not about insisting on repeating one big thing that is correct, but insisting on improving small things one by one. In other words, it is not that bigger is better, but that smaller, fewer and more focused are better; instead of enduring boredom, every little thing you do is conducive to the next thing you do.
New Cognition 3: "Long-termism" Judgment Criteria: Whether Cognition Continues to Iterate
All long-termism needs to be based on cognitive iteration .
For an individual, if you persist for a long time without any changes in your cognition and behavior, it is called "stubbornness".
Some people naively believe in some false propositions: "hard work will pay off", "the 10,000 hours rule", "where you spend your time, the kind of person you will become", but they do not know that the basis for their success is: every time The "effort" can obtain cognitive iteration or change the level of "effort".
Similarly, if entrepreneurs and leaders adhere to long-termism but their own cognition remains unchanged and fails to improve, it will be difficult to grasp the essence of passing through cycles, especially like today, when old experiences are invalid and future predictions are opaque.
2. Layout suggestions
Personally – dig into at least 6 questions: What should you insist on? Why persist? How to persist? Can I innovate? What can I improve on next time? Any new beliefs?
Entrepreneurs - "Three things before thinking": initial belief → act boldly → get feedback → iterative evolution → update belief → start again.
Brand - 3Q: Will this investment become an "asset" in the future? Has it been deposited into the brand equity account? Is it possible to obtain the compound interest effect?
3. In-depth reading
James Cass, "Finite and Infinite Games" (the bible of long-term philosophy)
Jeff Bezos' "Long-termism" (a collection of long-term thinking, methods, and practice)
Charlie Munger: "Poor Charlie's Book of Wisdom: Charlie Munger's Wisdom and Proverbs" (Long-termism in Business)
Jim Collins' "Excellent Genes - From Start-up to Excellence" (from start-up, continuous growth to evergreen genes, a must-read!)
Eric Ries "Lean Startup 2.0" and Peter Thiel's "From 0 to 1: The Secret to Unlocking Business and the Future" (Entrepreneur's Guide)
Hua Yuhua's "Super Symbols Are Super Creativity" (long-term brand building methodology, easy to understand and learn)
4. Keyword 4: "Post-new consumerism"
He lets him be strong, the breeze blows on the hills, he lets him cross him, the bright moon shines on the river!
——Jin Yong's "The Story of Eternal Heaven and Slaying the Dragon"
In 2023, the main theme will be price cuts and downgrades.
First, the "Ice Cream Assassin" Zhong Xue was no longer popular, and then he was ridiculed for being "so expensive"; then, brands that took the initiative to lower prices or insisted on low prices gained development and recognition - Pinduoduo, Hema, Sam's, Salia, Heytea, temporary discount stores; and then the city is full of 8.8 and 9.9 yuan coffee, "noble but not expensive" split-level and cost-effective baked bread...
Let’s take a look at many social hot spots: Zibo Barbecue, Citywalk, Special Forces Travel, Village BA Village Supermarket, military coats, replacement of domestic products, money-free outfits, small potatoes, life energy/relaxation/moisturizing, etc. These hot topics in 2023 Search reflects the salient characteristics of consumer behavior - consuming the most cost-effective goods and services with the least amount of money.
Some people call these phenomena reverse consumption, rational consumption, consumption downgrade, pragmatism, quality-price ratio, value-for-money ratio, sophistication, intellectual beauty, wealth and wealth, etc. Brand apes prefer to call these new consumption normals "post-new consumerism" and share three new understandings about it.
1. 3 new cognitions
New understanding 1: "Existence" rather than "possession": The creator awakens!
"Possession" is related to "things", while "existence" is related to "experience".
——Psychoanalytic psychologist and humanistic philosopher Erich Fromm, "To Have or To Be"
In the past (comparative society), "material" high ground was often used to define social status. For example, the more material things you owned, the more you felt in control, or that your sense of security came from possessing material things.
But today you will find that the material possessions have not made you and me less uneasy about the world at all: wise men spend a lot of time every day thinking about the meaning of life and the value of wealth; why new humans are anxious and created and why they act; what kind of things will the public track? What kind of things to buy based on trends. All kinds of irritability and depression quietly penetrate into everyone's mood.
The reason for this is that the new issue in the digital age is the consumption of information , which means that endless "experiences" serve as new values and become a form of "existence".
This means that the new humanity will of course prefer the practice of "being" rather than "having": becoming a creator!
What is a "creator"? "I" is an individual who makes independent decisions and takes responsibility; "I" freely choose who I want to be and how I want to live my life; "I" hope to leave a trace of my existence by creating something: even a photo, a Barrage, a video.
Give them a platform to display and perform to their heart's content. This is the source of dividends for cultivating experts/short videos/live broadcasts/social communities. This should be the best choice for new consumer brands.
It is not ruled out that there are still a large number of consumers who always aim to "own", but more of them are " creators ". When they no longer follow their parents, but re-choose and define life and consumption, they become active people. , becoming a new generation of opinion leaders, leading and creating various subcultures and " post-new consumerism " trends.
New Cognition 2: Evolution of Sovereignty: From Consumers in a Narrow Sense to People Who Live Actively
In the past few years, whether young people have participated rationally and shrewdly and proactively, or whether there has been a downgrade in consumption due to economic downturn, no matter what the reason is, this has led to an obvious result: new humans continue to reset their desires and try to form their own standards of life and consumption rhythms.
This point of view is broken down into six aspects in "Supersensory Heavy Code":
Reflective consumption: from having no money to reducing material desires to not being coerced by desires shaped by consumerism.
Being poor but not poor: from budget-conscious value for money to a simple and good life that breaks the filter .
Native credibility: from the desire to create a halo as a marketing persona to the endorsement of real life in the market.
Spiritual activation: from coping-style physical and mental awareness and control to daily freedom of actively activating energy.
Fishponds: From selling, raising and buying to obtain more early adopter resources to a self-sufficient life where everything can be transferred.
Spiritual return to hometown : from being forced to return to hometown due to failure in Beijing, to actively exploring the spiritual sustenance of small rural towns.
These "dismantlers" have almost become the action plan for hot spots such as Citywalk, special forces tours, and military coats mentioned above. At the end of 2023, "Southern Little Potatoes" and "Big Frozen Pears" rushed "Erbin" to the sky, marking a perfect footnote for "people who live actively".
New understanding 3: Alone but not alone: from pleasing oneself to pleasing others, from sharing to resonance
Miura Shun believes in "The Fourth Era of Consumption" that current consumption is changing from the third consumption that "focuses on personal satisfaction and pleasure" to the fourth consumption era that "focuses on pleasure and the relationship between people."
Combining the various social phenomena in China: shared interest in "collaboration" consumption, empathy in "fireworks" consumption, resonance in "tribal community" consumption, etc., four new ideas can be embraced:
First of all, it will focus on "people", not what "things" are obtained through consumption, but what "pleasure and surprise" are experienced in terms of "human emotions".
Secondly, these new social consumptions are based on "community" rather than just individual happiness .
Third, consumption that values relationships is not because of the loneliness of personal emotions and the need for companionship, but in many scenarios in work, study and life, where people want to seek low-cost mutual encouragement and create an atmosphere of being together.
Finally, what these consumers desire is to find more simple and natural, but valuable and meaningful social interactions and consumption both offline and online .
In fact, since bubbles and cocoons have become the norm after 2018, this kind of integration of social interaction and consumption has become the new normal.
Following the changes, more and more brands are changing their roles from "relationship connectors" to "relationship value-adders" : there are brands such as Keep, Babycare, Three and a Half Meals, Road Store, Tiaohai, as well as Beichen Youth, Youth Zhi, These are new social gathering places such as youth power centers.
2. Layout suggestions
Personal - Reflect on consumption, reset desires, and expand life choices.
Entrepreneurs - looking for creators (super users) to create and perform together.
Brand - from "relationship connector" to "relationship value-adder".
3. In-depth reading

"Inevitability" by Kevin Kelly (12 keywords to take you from "possession" to "existence")

Wu Sheng's LAUCEH 4-piece set "Digital Marketplace", "Art Museum Era", "Scientific Brand", "Small Interest Business" (new concepts collide between business and life)
5. Keyword 5: "Emotional Value"
ah! ah! ah! ah! ah! ah! …….——Station B’s 2023 annual barrage
In 2023, more and more products and experiences that point to people's emotions will become popular and the focus of the public.
Starting from "Dopamine Outfits", "Dopamine Green Coffee/Tea Drinks/Juice"..., dopamine is found everywhere, everything can be dopamine; then "Barbie" fans are hot, and Heytea × FENDI's "Joy Yellow" is out of the circle , followed by Ruixing × Moutai "Everyone is on top" and "Far Ahead" lead the way, Maillard color series is heart-warming, Station B's annual barrage "Ah"...
At this time, "emotional value" is not only a kind of emotional marketing and experience, but also a kind of psychological resonance, which touches the chemical reactions of consumers' deep inner emotions and other pleasant feelings.
Many people think this is a "lipstick effect", but Brand Ape regards it as "emotional value" and a rare and valuable long-term optimism.
For business innovation, it means to understand this change in a new and forward-looking way.
1. 3 new cognitions
New understanding 1: "Emotional marketing" in the past: Insight into society → drive/sell → you and me.
In fact, "emotional marketing" has been around for a long time, and has repeatedly become the magic weapon for popular products to break out of the industry.
McDonald's and Coca-Cola dominate the world with "emotional marketing"; Jiang Xiaobai expresses his superiority with emotional expression; "Escape from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou" breaks out of the industry by escaping emotions; "Wolf Warrior 2" breaks the box office miracle by relying on the confidence of a big country; relies on selling surprises The launched Bubble Mart blind box; there are also "nostalgic" emotions, "healing" emotions, "good luck" emotions...
There is always a wave of "emotions" on the way.
In that era of lack of content , it is easy to understand that "emotional marketing" can saturate the screen: ① Emotions between people are highly contagious; ② Strong emotions can easily lead to spread; ③ Boosted by social networks.
Although "emotional marketing" in the past was remarkable, most of it can be attributed to "insight into society → drive/sell → you and me" , but today's "emotional value" is completely different.
New cognition 2: The current "emotional value": In-depth life → companionship and dialogue → us.
Looking back at the various emotions, nodes and cross-border marketing in 2023, we will find that more and more brands are "dialogue" with every user in depth with an equal attitude and sincere emotions.
For example, node marketing that uses the characteristics of nodes to create new product emotions and "responds" to the specific emotions of each festival ; such as going beyond the 1.0 of creating topics through joint names and the 2.0 of selling peripherals, and starting to explore the 3.0 of emotional dialogue ; and another example is healing emotions, which is not simple. Waves of posters, copywriting, movies and TV shows kill people, but they stay with users and actually do something.
In addition, long-term companionship has also become a new emotional value
Tianzhen Juice's "Little Hat Plan" has been with users for 7 years; the three-and-a-half-meal "Return Plan" has gone through 7 seasons; Lululemon's hot sweat activities have been running from Europe and the United States to China throughout the brand's establishment; Aranya has been around since 2013 The living community created by the company has evolved into nearly a hundred owner-controlled communities in 10 years; there is also the Xiaomi Rice Noodle Festival that has been held for 13 years.
It seems not difficult to find that the new generation of "emotional value" tries its best to avoid talking about emotions, uses eyeballs to capture traffic, and pays more attention to dialogue and companionship .
New Cognition 3: The “emotional track” of the future: cultural power, lifestyle and personalization.
In the foreseeable future, the "emotional track " evolved from "emotional value" will have new "vitality" - with new cultural power and lifestyle as common denominators, "dialogue" as the starting point, and "accompanying" as the original intention. , constantly promote the development and release of personalization and diversity of the smallest emotional unit .
This change is clearly visible in Xiaomi and Huawei.
From "Wukong" to the spirit of Populus euphratica, from "heroes have suffered many hardships since ancient times" to "a light boat has passed thousands of mountains" and "restless power", "emotion" has become a part of Huawei's brand.
2. Layout suggestions
Personally - "Optimism" is always our most correct choice. As Kevin Kelly said, "Remember, staying optimistic is equivalent to increasing your IQ by 25 points!"
Entrepreneurs and brands - ① Go deep into users ' "lives" and gain insight into subtle/tiny emotions related to life; ② Find a certain emotion and respond positively; ③ Dialogue on an equal footing: look straight up rather than looking down, guide rather than drive, create value rather than Selling emotions; ④ Long-term companionship.

———
Back by unpopular demand? Me!
My guess is you guys are tired of me that’s why I went ➡️ for what, 3 months?
Anyways, what way to kick off Slasher season with *Ahem*? I’m a little rusty I guess, so please push it aside while I get it all together again
Warning: Danny being a horny fucking pervert, he’s literally his own warning. Sexual tension… uh like three shitty movie references, a drop of lemon 🍋 and.. severe disappointment
———
God, why did you agree to come to this stupid party? It wasn’t like you knew anyone, your friend who held the get together promised to stay by you, only to leave when a group of high priced society looking bunch called her over. Then you were all by yourself, standing in the same spot your friend had left you, silently hoping she’d come collect you again. But by the looks of it, she wasn’t anytime soon.
Did you look stupid standing there with your arms crossed over your body with the obvious anxiety packed body language you were letting the whole room read? Everyone knew each other, they were laughing and conversing. That protruding thought from the back of your mind threatening to come true made you chew your nail out of instinct.
Maybe it would be best…
Then like that, your friend was gone. Which was fine, it wasn’t like you were going to go out of your way to push through the crowd of people only to be brushed off again. Just before you lifted your foot, it felt even more embarrassing to leave, the whole room probably anticipated your departure and a ‘there they finally go’ as you walked off. Lucky most people cleared a path for you, making it even more unsettling like all eyes were on you.
Walking out the door and into the warm fall night, it was like your senses cleared and you could breath again. All that you had to do now was fight traffic back home.
Walking up into the front door, the key jingling in the process of letting you in. Quickly turning around, it felt like you needed to expect something tonight. But you’ve felt like that for the past few months. The air that left your lips turned into a cloud, the night getting progressively colder making you walk in and close the door as fast as you could.
What was there to do now? The rest of your night was suppose to be spent at a party instead of bored at home.
Taking the warm jacket you had on, off, it was like your brain had a mind of its own. And soon enough you sat on the couch, tea in hand as the TV silently played in the background. A blanket spread across your lap as you chewed on the strings of your hoodie. There was nothing good on, the tea had gone warm almost cool. The streets busy at rush hour and with the house almost warm, maybe it would be good to spend the rest of the remainder of the night in bed scrolling through whatever just to judge the things people were into. ‘Really? You think going to Universal studios just to see the new Nope setup is a trend right now?’ Yeah that’s not called a hobby nor trend
Setting the mug on the coffee table, it was like a slap across the face when you suddenly didn’t want to get up. So you threw yourself back into the cushions with a huff, “you wanna put that pretty mouth of yours to work or what?” You jumped and glared at the gaping white mask that was staring you down for who knows how long. “How long have you been there?” You made it pretty clear to him that you weren’t going to put up with his shit tonight as he only laughed in response. “Long enough, still trying to get these images out of my head about you”
“Well then I guess it’s time for you to leave, because I’m going to bed” that came out a lot sarcastic then you meant for it to be, “then I guess I’m in for a real treat tonight” you groaned and looked away from him, the couch dipped signaling he sat down and without thinking any further, he was most definitely close as he could be. However when you looked back, he only continued to stare at you, no words exchanged only the looks you both had.
Your eyes took notice of his breathing under the cape, his chest rising up and down ever so slowly, deep.. agonizingly… slow hypotonic rhythm that had you looking at his chest a bit longer than you liked to admit. Seconds went by and his mask tilted to the side like a dog as he leaned in. Two gloved fingered ran across the blanket on your lap until he started caressing it, like he was feeling the material through the leather gloves. The closer he got the more you could feel the warmth and hear the huffs of air that echoed in the mask.
You stood your ground, clearly telling him you weren’t going to budge tonight. Then his hand went up your thigh and
-Bam
Again, you jumped as he grabbed the blanket and wrapped it around your shoulder, pulling you closer as he let out a small chuckle. “You’re real jumpy tonight” he whispered, you didn’t say anything as you let your heart calm down from the sudden adrenaline that coursed through your veins. The blanket wrapped around his fist as he yanked it closer to his chest, your body stiff as the mouth of his mask met your neck, a shudder ran down your spine at the cold plastic soon melting warm like butter. He inhaled before his head traveled down to your clavicle, then right over your heart. Oh how he loved hearing your heart beat like you just ran a marathon or even better, watched a scary movie. His eyes fluttered shut under the mask as the pace slowed and soon it was like a drum, beating in short bursts over and over
-Thump thump- -thump thump- -thump thump-
It was like his own version of serotonin, and like that you pushed him away, standing up leaving him to glare at you. He watched from the couch as you began towards the stairs, he got an idea just before your foot started the steps, he jumped up and ran after you as your heart once again started as you ran up the steps thinking he finally went out of his mind and ends up killing you. The heavy thud of boots against the carpeted wood reminded him of your heart. He laughed, following you to your room. Then he shoved the door open as he grabbed your upper arms. Seeing you try to catch your breath as he leaned in to meet your lips as if he just delivered a kiss.
“What the fuck Danny?!” You stepped away from him as he shrugged, smiling like he had finally aced a test.
It was like your heart wanted to jump out your chest and air was scarce, “don’t- don’t you ever fucking do that again you-” you cut yourself off as you were about to punch his arm with all your might, only to weakly deliver a shove that barely even made him move. “Fuck your hot” he stepped closer only to be pushed into the little chair you had for your ‘office’
He spun around, never minding you walk into the bathroom attached, maybe he could get lucky tonight. He quickly pulled his shirt up but below his pecs, making sure the mask stayed on as he loosened his belt, making sure to keep his pants buttoned. One arm thrown over his head as his hand grabbed the headdress, and the other laid still on the arm rest. Then you came back, let out a yelp and covering your eyes with your hand, “my goodness” you complained as he watched you. “You running a private show?” He motioned between the computer being almost directly across your bed, making you bloom with embarrassment as you denied his question
“No, no no no-” “cause I’m willing to be the extra prop” he offered, making you sit at the edge of the bed in front of him, hands covering your face as you peeped through your fingers, “or if not, we could always” he cut himself off as he lifted his hips up and down and let a small moan out. Making you shut your eyes with a slight ring in your ears, there was no denying that sight would leave you tonight. Cause it certainly did make you smile and made your legs squeeze together in what? Excitement? Embarrassment?
He rolled closer and pulled your hands away from your face, seeing you look away. “Go on, do what you want with me. I’m fine with it sweetheart, I’m sure you got ideas of your own in here” his hand ran through your hair as he mentioned your head. You shook your head no as he was the one to huff in annoyance this time. What could he do to try and get you to do something, then he remembered. The way you stared at him while he was trying to regain his breath downstairs. You watched as he pulled the black shirt over his head and thrown into the laundry basket he long ago called ‘our laundry basket’
Eyes widening, you stood up and finally spoke “ok, I think it’s time for you to leave” Jesus Christ what would it take for you to give in? Truth be told, he was currently on the run after he slipped up just a little. But for the most part he just wanted some.
He grabbed your wrist and pushed you against your work desk, pulling you by your thighs until you sat at the edge, making his stomach tighten slightly as well. God he so wanted to record this and send this to whoever your boss was. Instead, “interview me” he shook his head up as he sat back in the chair. “What?” You were so clueless, “interview me, see if I got what it takes to get with you” he explained as you laughed, rolling your eyes. But nonetheless giving in, now it was his turn to watch you. Your fingers grab the stack of papers, pulling piece by piece towards your chest with nimble fingers. He so wanted to be in that position, you in his lap, your fingers running through his hair as you pulled him to your chest. Both your bodies almost becoming one as he released his tension
“Are you socially active?” Your voice made him look at you, not hearing you right “sexually active? That gave him a slap to the chest. “No you idiot, I said socially. Like- are you socially active… uh. Are you good with talking to people you’ve never met? Being comfortable in a room with many people you have to work with?” Well that was a poor explanation “ohh, uh yeah I guess” his response made you raise a brow “you guess? It’s a yes or no question. I can’t write ‘I guess’ cause it sounds like I forced you to say so,” you shook your head and marked yes
“Do you plan on being on time, to work, meetings, and conferences? Even if it means working overtime?” “Mhm” you looked at him because of his answer, so you just marked yes. A couple more questions went by without him saying anything perverted. “This is so boring, what the hell” he whined as it was only the fifth question. “You said to interview you” “I know what I said, just… let’s role play something else” he scooted closer as his hands squeezed your thigh. Kneeding them softly under his palm, “that was role play?” You laughed at him, “it didn’t go exactly as I planned, sure, but you looked too cute focusing on the questions. I wonder if that’s how you always look working”
You hummed, still smiling trying not to laugh. It really made you wonder how he thought that would play out good. The furthest it would go would probably be you telling him off, until he threatens you… bending you over your desk making you hope your boss doesn’t walk in- fuck.
He grabbed your hands, intertwining your fingers with his as he leaned up towards you. “Come on, lemme be your husband” that was so out of context as you nervously laughed, now how do you get out of this situation?
“I’m serious” “no your not” you added, he stayed silent.
His hand guided your over his wrist, up his forearm to his bicep. Feeling his veins under your fingertips as his other hand went behind your back. Pulling you to sit on his lap, his warmth making you lean into him slightly as he continued to guide your hand down pass his neck, leaving an invisible trail down his abs, making you feel them as he sunk further into the chair. You were almost higher than him, and soon enough your hands were on their own. They didn’t wander like he wanted them to, but you kept them right above his stomach, his hands on your hips as he got ready, already enjoying this position. Much to his dismay, you pulled your hands back, “sorry I- I didn’t mean to” you apologized as his brows furrowed, for what?
He shook his head no as he moved you both to the bed, pushing you down softly as he stood up, looking down at you. His hand coming to your face as he whispered not to apologize over and over. Then it hit him, did you not want him because he came off too strong? Or maybe it was because you thought he only wanted what he desired? Sure he was a fucking psychopath but he wasn’t going to mess with your feelings, he’s nothing if not sorry. “I need you” he whispered, feeling his hot breath through the mouth of the mask as you nodded, giving in. To hell if he wanted only your body, it’s been so long since you’ve had this and you needed it
“I swear I need you” his hands pulled yours above your head as his body was flush against yours. Feeling the small piece of your own stomach against his as your shirt began to rise up. He pulled his hand from your side and moved the mask up to his mouth, wanting to taste you. You shut your eyes not wanting to invade his privacy any further as his tongue viscously claimed your mouth his own, soon enough you couldn’t tell apart your own drool from his. His hips beginning to try and find comfort, release anything from the stupid pants you both wore.
Your chest heaved as he licked a line from the corner of your mouth like he was carving a smile to your earlobe, giving it a teasing nip before taking it between his lips. A breathy “fuck I need you” as he began to undo his pants, a phone call from your friend was all it took to end it

peter- p. parker
pairings: peter parker x reader, platonic!tony stark x peter parker, mom!natasha romanoff x reader, platonic!harley keener x reader
warnings: none?
about: based off of this (tiktok trend where you call your boyfriend/husband by their name)
a/n: i wanted to start a tiktok series for the longest time and this is a nice start right? i'm going to include all of the people i write for, i just need to find trends lmao. i hope y'all like this!
you pouted, glaring at tony as he ignored you, continuing to steal peter’s attention away from you. in his defense, you had done that to him before, dragging peter away by the hand the second he finishes in the lab. you could feel the smug look tony was sending your way as you gave up, and you kicked at dum-e in retaliation. “hey, bub? i’m gonna go train or something, please come get me when you’re done, i wanna spend time with you.”
peter nodded, looking over his shoulder for a second to pucker his lips at you and blow you a quick kiss, “okay, pretty girl, i promise i’ll be down in one or two hours- right?” he looked at tony, and the man responded with a distracted nod.
“promise?” you ask, too used to him saying the same thing and spending twice the amount of time. “of course, i can’t spend that much time away from you, angel.”
you blushed, muttering a “fine,” and heading down to the training room.
-
you were sprawled on the mat, chest heaving while natasha stared at you, “you good, y/n?”
“not great, mom, you really didn’t hold back today, did you?” you asked, eyes closed. you heard nat chuckle, poking you with her foot, “you did good, honey, i’m proud of you. i imagine peter is in your room sulking?”
you groaned at that, rolling over. “i doubt it. how long have we been sparring?”
“almost four hours, why?”
an hour or two, my ass, you thought, sighing. you stood, “nothing, just, he’s busy right now. is wanda around? loki? harley?”
natasha unwrapped her hands, asking for yours as she spoke, “wanda’s on a date with vision, loki is… probably being the god of mischief somewhere, and harley is in the common room doing something.”
you thanked her as she took the bands away, stretching your fingers.
“thank you, nat, i’m gonna go take a shower, thanks for letting me beat your ass,” she shoved you lightly as you walked past, and you giggled, walking to the elevator. pushing up against the glass that let you see into the lab, you spotted peter, slumped down on a bean bag chair tony had put in his lab for your boyfriend. his mouth was moving, hands in the air, and tony was in front of him, nodding along to whatever he was saying with a screwdriver uselessly in his hand. you managed to catch a sliver of their conversation,
“you know how i told you yesterday about ned? well, today, he…”
busy indeed, you thought with a scowl, watching as the elevator rose past the floor and up to yours. you grumbled as you walked to your room and resisted the desire to simply drop on your bed and call harley over, stepping into your bathroom instead.
ten minutes later, you were on the couch of the main room with harley, your head smushed against his shoulder, paying attention to the screen of your phone instead of the movie on the television. “so, you’re angry at peter?” harley asked, and you looked up at him, shaking your head.
“no, no, i’m just upset, i’ve barely seen him all week, and he promised he’d be out in an hour or two, but it’s been four-”
“maybe he’s busy?” harley offered, and you scoffed, “yes, gossipping about ned-”
harley bit his lip, “maybe it was a break?”
you shrugged at that, leaning on him again, “maybe. i still miss him, though.”
harley hummed as you scrolled past the videos on tiktok, coming across one of the couple videos that had been popping up on your for you page ever since you posted a video with peter.
harley swiped your phone in excitement, pointing at the video, “hey, you should do this! scare him a little.”
you tilted your head in confusion, taking your phone back apprehensively, “do what? you didn’t even let me watch, and what are you talking about?”
your eyes settled on your phone, mint letters reading calling my boyfriend by his name instead of his pet name. you laughed at it, realizing that harley was right.
as if reading your mind, harley smirked, “he would freak out, sometimes i think you forget each other’s real names.” you gave him a look, and he raised his arms in a sign of surrender. “i don’t know, it’s not a bad idea. people have been asking me to prank him for a while now.”
“see?” harley said, satisfied with himself. “i’ll do it, if i ever see him again, that is.”
“oh, you are so dramatic,” harley huffed. “you love me,” you scoff, and you feel him nod, “yes i do, now, go away, i haven’t been able to concentrate on my movie at all since you came here.”
you harrumph, and just as though on cue, you hear peter come through the door of the living room. you hum when you feel him press his lips on your forehead, “hi, beautiful,” he greets, shoving harley’s head away as his hello.
“hello to you too,” harley mutters, and you feel peter tug at you, “come on, let’s go to your room.” you laugh and pat harley’s thigh, “i’ll see you later, harls.” he waves you off, and you stand before letting peter drag you to your room. right when you’ve clicked the button to your floor, peter still outside of the elevator, you remember the video, stiffening up. “actually, can you get me some water, peter?” you ask, and you only catch a glimpse of peter’s face as his eyebrows furrow, voice saying a cut off “yeah,” the elevator doors closing on his face. you chuckle while the elevator lifts, scrambling to pull out your phone and setting it up to make a tiktok. you sprint to your room, closing the door quietly and sitting on your bed, pretending like you were on your phone as you waited for peter’s hurried steps to come closer.
three tentative knocks came from your door and you clicked record before telling peter to come in. “hey, princess,” he spoke softly, and you smiled, “hi peter.”
he winced, setting down the glass of water on your table. you gave an insincere frown, “what’s wrong?”
“i just- did i do something wrong?” peter asked, puppy eyes in full blow. “no?” you say, feigning confusion, “why?”
“it’s- you called me peter,” he whined, and you breathed out in a sort of laugh, “is that not your name?” you queried, and peter puffed out his cheeks, “you only call me that when you’re mad.”
you laugh fully now, “when have you ever seen me mad at you, peter?”
peter crosses his arms, huffing, “i don’t know a peter.”
your mouth falls open slightly, “peter!-” you don’t get to finish when peter turns his head away from you, bottom lip jutting out and eyes looking up at nothing, “peter isn’t here, i’m bubba, or handsome, or-”
“oh my god,” you snicker, “dude, it’s-”
peter turns to you, mouth open in indignation, “dude- y/n/n!” he cries, and you drop your phone on the bed, noticing the video is done.
you’re smiling, stretching your arms out to him as a peace offering, “it was just a tiktok, petey, and it was also all harley’s idea-”
“i thought you were mad!” he complains, accepting your arms and wrapping his own around your waist, head on your chest. you respond with a small snort, running your fingers through his curls, “i didn’t think it was this big of a deal, it’s just your name, bub.”
peter doesn’t respond, nuzzling his head further into your boobs, “mean.”
you just roll your eyes, grabbing your phone to post the tiktok (which amassed over three million likes after an hour).

Why do I award BalanWonderworld as a masterpiece?
Tumblr media
Introduction
⚠️I'm using a translator, so I apologize if any parts are difficult to read.
In this article, I will write about why I award Balan Wonderworld as a masterpiece, with answers to criticisms.
When I played the demo version, I thought this game was SO BAD. But I believed Yuji Naka and bought the full version. (Before I knew it, I had bought four of them...) I'm not raving blindly about it.
At first, I was hopelessly disappointed because nothing had changed from the demo version. However, in chapters 2 and 3, I was impressed by the three-dimensionality and beauty of the stages, and in chapter 4, I realized the comfort of gaining freedom through the acquisition of costumes.
By the time I was completely finished, I was convinced that this game was a great piece of work.
This is an article that I wrote after spending nearly 100 hours on this game.
I hope you will read it.
Main part
First of all, this game is not a game with flashy action as its primary objective. (Flashy battle action is possible in some scenes.)
【Puzzle】 【RPG】 【Exploration】
It is structured around these three main components.
The game also features a "Balance AI" that senses the player's movements and makes changes to the difficulty and world. There is also a presentation of my own work, so please take a look!
Please read with the above in mind.
■ One button action is stressful.
▶︎ As mentioned earlier, this game is not intended for flashy action. At its root, it is an RPG and does not require multiple buttons. The reason it's a simple operation is because it doesn't need to be.
There is only one button, but instead the player is given the freedom to select up to three actions of their choice. The way to play Balan is to find your own strategy within these constraints.
Some people point out that you can't jump, but only a few outfits limit jumping. Most of them are attack-oriented outfits. It's up to you to decide whether you want more attack power or more movement power.
If you're still not convinced, this game just isn't to your liking.(If that's you, I recommend the Wii version of Rodea.)
Tumblr media
NiGHTS and Sonic are also action games with simple controls, but the concept is different from Baran, as explained below.
From the very beginning, NiGHTS and Sonic are one-button games that allow for exhilarating action. The action feels good and allows for improvement through trial and error.
However, Balan begins in a state of helplessness. One of his goals is to use his wits and eventually gain the power to run freely around the three-dimensional stage.
Freedom from discomfort. This catharsis is the best part of Balan.
It is also linked to the story's theme of opening closed minds.
■ The structure of the puzzle is sketchy.
▶︎ There is an intention behind this. By making the puzzle structure more flexible, the player is given more choices.
Therefore, each player will have a completely different solution to obtaining a single statue.
Also, each time you play the game, you will find new strategies, making it a game that can be played repeatedly.
This is the reason why Yuji Naka was so confident about this game.
Personally, I think that this action with a puzzle concept has a similar point of view to card games and rock-paper-scissors.
The Mega Man series is a typical example of a game that requires you to observe the situation and your opponent's movements to find the right technique and move. In fact, there is a famous episode where it was derived from rock-paper-scissors. This is also a game where you can enjoy improving through trial and error, but I think the structure of the rules is similar to that of Balan.

■ It's a pain to stock up on costumes.
▶︎ There is no need to overstock costumes. The minimum number of costumes needed to clear the course will naturally be available. Dependence on certain costumes can make the game monotonous. Also, the BalanceAI can sense your movements and take countermeasures.
As the difficulty level increases, you will have a hard time because the costumes will not come back.
The game is made more interesting by the style of play that allows you to use all the costumes to their fullest extent and bring out the true value of each one.
If you run out, explore the stage while collecting costumes. It may lead to new discoveries.
Even if you don't have a specific costume, there are many situations you can get through by applying other costumes.
This degree of freedom is what makes Balan so interesting. The strategy is left to your imagination.
■ The stage is curved. Isn't this a useless design?
▶︎ The curvature of the map allows you to see every corner of the stage. You may be confused because there is no other game that tries to do something like this. However, this is an ideal map for exploration games.
The basics of this gimmick are used as of chapter 1. Chapter 7, which has particularly large differences in elevation, makes good use of this gimmick.
■ The difficulty level is too low.
▶︎ Basics → Application → Review (Boss battle)
This game is designed to follow the above flow thoroughly. As a result, the difficulty level in the early stages is kept low, but the endgame is quite difficult. I almost lost my mind in chapter 12.
The bosses are easy to defeat. However, it is difficult to conquer all three strategy patterns.
Also, if you keep defeating enemies quickly without taking damage, the difficulty level will increase.Stronger and faster enemies will appear in large numbers.I found the difficulty level increased at chapter 3.
Tumblr media
In other words, the difficulty of the game depends on how good you are.
■ I want to have a HP separate from my costume.
▶︎ This system prompts the player to use a different costume in case of failure.
Depending on the situation, you can either sacrifice valuable costumes, or use inconvenient but well-stocked costumes... The game throws a variety of choices at the player. This gameplay becomes more apparent as the difficulty level increases.
If you separate the HP from the costume, this tense gameplay will be lost.
The system of choosing outfits based on what will happen next fosters the ability to think and survive on one's own. It will also help the child's ego independence.
■ I need more explanations and hints. It's designed in an unfriendly way.
▶︎ It's not a game that requires you to do anything difficult, so if you think about it, you should be able to understand it to some extent. All you have to do is immerse yourself in collecting statues by any route you can think of.
Some people criticize Balan for being old-fashioned, but they are missing the point.
Games are essentially content that teaches you to think and act for yourself. This is a posting of what games should be, and a refreshing return to the basics.
However, I don't mean to criticize modern games. The immersive feeling of being in a movie, and the friendly design of the UI that shows you where you are going so you don't get lost. I think it's a beautiful evolution for today's hectic world where it's hard to find time to be alone.
However, to be honest, it is abnormal to say that only works that follow the latest trends are evaluated, and it is difficult to say that there is creativity in such works. Evolving technology and the presence or absence of originality have completely different meanings.
I would like to say that games like Balan, which have their own rules and think for themselves, are what we need today.
■ I don't understand the story. I want subtitles.
▶︎ With both video and dubbing, the amount of information is extremely high. By not using real words, all the people in the world have the exact same experience. Very romantic, don't you think?
It's not to dismiss the unspoken parts as non-existent, but to let your imagination run wild and have fun with it.
Since ancient times, there has been an aesthetic in Asia that finds meaning in blank spaces.
If you want a more substantial story, I recommend the novel version, which probably has what you want. It is available for Kindle.
At the end
Balan Wonderworld is a game designed to grow with the player the more time they spend playing.
Despite its gorgeous visuals, the reality of the story is deep and Yuji Naka's philosophy shines through, making it a masterpiece that can be called a compilation of his work.
At first, you may find some scenes difficult or the system annoying. However, they all have a meaning and will make sense as you continue to play.
Balan is built on a very complete system.
EVERY MOMENT IS AN ADVENTURE... This tagline is true.
But the fact is that Balan is a very peaky game. But that's also true for Sonic and NiGHTS.
If you have enjoyed Yuji Naka's past works, you will surely understand the quality of Balan. I recommend that you take the time to face this game first without any preconceived notions.
Tumblr media
Now that I've spoken highly of Balan, I'd like to offer some criticism of the official advertising.
I think the main reason for this failure was the poor choice of stages included in the demo version, which made it difficult to convey the fun of expanding the degree of freedom by acquiring costumes, the sense of freedom, and the fun of being able to create a number of unique strategies.
As for the official SNS, rather than introducing the costumes and the storyline by themselves, the official should have done a better job of showing how they are all connected to make this game interesting.
That's how it looked from my personal point of view, but I believe that the current situation is the result of continuous failures in the area of advertising.
I'm so disappointed that this masterpiece is being buried, and I hope that the officials will have the guts to turn its reputation upside down even now.
Hopefully, this game will get the recognition it deserves. I love Balan Wonderworld.

Please reblog, comment, or send in an ask with your feedback! Thank you for your support 💜
Tumblr media
Ever since you’d seen him in his first ever role on a television series about five years ago, you’d fallen in love with Minho.
Choi Minho, probably the most attractive man you’d ever seen. Through a screen, at least. You hadn’t yet been lucky enough to see him in person.
And since you’d fallen in love with him after watching his very first episode of that television series, you’d done nothing but support him for the last several years.
You saw every one of his movies the day it released in theatres. You watched every single episode of every single television show he appeared in -- even if he was just a guest star.
His popularity from his first role had soared pretty quickly, which was really a win/win scenario. Minho, who presumably had been a struggling actor previously, was now flush with offers from directors. And you, an immediate superfan, got to spend a lot of virtual time with your new favorite actor -- because, not only did he act in a very large handful of projects every year, he was also interviewed on talk shows, featured in magazines, walking the red carpet of premieres and award shows. He didn’t have a social media presence for some extremely odd reason, but you still felt like you knew him.
From everything you’d seen and read about him, Minho was outgoing, friendly, and charismatic. He was confident, straight-forward, and optimistic. He basically always had some version of a smile on his lips, and based on many posts in the Choi Minho subreddit, he never turned down an opportunity to meet a fan out in public.
He... was basically perfect.
And you couldn’t stop yourself from daydreaming about one day meeting him, falling in love, getting married, and having about ten children together in the most beautiful house in the universe.
But, to be fair, your daydream wasn’t entirely impossible!
You were a bit of a celebrity, yourself!
Kind of.
On the Internet.
You had started a YouTube Channel six years ago, and at first, you hadn’t really had a clear vision for your videos. An absolutely rookie mistake, of course, but there’s nothing you could do about it now.
You’d started off with makeup tutorials because that had been the hottest YouTube trend at the time. But... you quickly discovered you weren’t as good at makeup as one should be to post a tutorial online in good conscience. You also weren’t quite good enough at doing your nails, cooking, or sewing to do videos about those.
For at least a few months, you’d been stumped. You knew you wanted your own YouTube channel -- you had a pretty fitting personality for it -- you just didn’t have any one marketable skill.
Until, one day, you stumbled upon a video of a guy watching a K-Pop music video for the first time and reacting to it. That was literally it. The whole video had been just him watching and talking about it.
And you were very good at that. You loved watching things on a screen -- YouTube videos, television shows, movies, you name it! And you always had thoughts running through your head while you watched something. In fact, you frequently wished one of your friends had exactly the same taste in music, shows, and movies as you so you could voice those thoughts aloud to someone who actually wanted to listen.
So, how had you never thought of doing that on your YouTube channel?! There was obviously a market for it -- the guy you’d watched had a few hundred thousand subscribers, and since it was something you genuinely enjoyed doing, you weren’t afraid of running out of content inspiration or motivation any time soon.
It was literally the perfect idea.
The next day, you had set up your camera, pulled up the first episode of your favorite television show of all time, and got to work. When you posted the video a few hours later (Re-watching my FAVORITE show of all time), something about it just felt right. Like the stars had aligned. No matter if you got five views or five thousand, you knew you were on the right path -- when it came to YouTube, at least.
Every day after that, you chose something else to watch -- a nostalgic movie, a viral YouTube video, the really cheesy musical episode of a television show. You tried to pick things from all along the spectrum, and you also tried to wait a few days in-between continuing on with your re-watch of your favorite show, simply for variety’s sake.
Little by little, your channel began to grow. After work, you would film, edit, and post -- every single day. On the weekends, you would film two different videos in case you ever needed to take a day off. Or in case you just felt like posting two videos!
Your first sponsorship offer email had come about six months after you’d posted your first video, and your eyes had nearly fell out of your head when you’d seen how much they’d offered you. (Looking back, your first paying YouTube gig really hadn’t been that much money -- compared to what you could make now, at least -- but it had still been incredibly thrilling.) And, really, that had been the catalyst of your YouTube career and popularity. It seemed just the one sponsorship had been all you’d needed to catch the attention of other brands who wanted to work with you, and when you got to the point where you could actually afford to quit your job and turn down sponsorship offers you weren’t wild about? That’s when you knew you’d made it.
Okay, but really, you knew you’d made it when one of your videos hit one million views for the first time (a video of you watching a particularly cringe-worthy teen movie from about ten years ago).
And now, six years later, you had almost four million subscribers, and your most viewed video had almost twenty million views. Sometimes, you still couldn’t believe it!
The highlight of your time on YouTube so far -- at least, in your eyes -- had been when you’d seen Choi Minho for the first time about a year after starting your channel. You’d still had less then one-hundred thousand subscribers back then, so if anyone ever left on a comment on a video mentioning how long you’d been a Minho fangirl or remembering when you first discovered him, you knew they were an OG subscriber. But ever since that video, you did absolutely nothing to hide your affinity for him, both as an actor and as a person. You watched and reacted to every single one of his movies and every single television show episode -- you even sometimes reacted to interviews or videos other fans had made about him.
Even when your channel hit some pretty big milestones -- five-hundred thousand subscribers, one million, two million, three million subscribers -- you never played it cool when it came to Choi Minho. You switched up your content and your editing style here and there, but one constant on your YouTube channel was the fact you let your inner fangirl shine for all the world to see.
In fact, just last month, the trailer for his new movie dropped, and you were able to upload your reaction to it within two hours. Since then, you’d read and watched every interview you could find, favorited every tweet about the upcoming film, and liked every post on the #ChoiMinho hashtag on Instagram. Since he had no social media, you had to be satisfied with other people’s content rather than his own.
You were scrolling through his hashtag on Instagram right now, actually, as you procrastinated getting out of bed to go set up for another day of filming.
Now that you had almost four million subscribers and were approached by more than several companies for sponsorships every single day, you were able to focus on your channel full-time. You definitely got cabin fever from time to time, but it was worlds better than filming after work and on weekends. Now, you could actually take a day off whenever you wanted! It was glorious!
But you still procrastinated working. You were still human, after all.
After you caught up on his hashtag and liked just about every picture you could, you navigated to your inbox to look through your DMs. Over the years, it had gotten pretty easy to skip past the spam and sugar daddy requests (which were plentiful, unfortunately), so you no longer dreaded checking the unread messages. You could usually tell which ones to delete straight away from the profile picture and first few words alone.
To be quite honest, you really only opened ones where you either could tell someone was genuinely reaching out to say hi or thank you for posting your videos or... messages with Minho’s name visible in the preview. Shameless, but oh well!
After deleting a few messages at the top which were clearly spam, the next one you came to was actually one of those messages -- you saw ‘Minho’ in the preview. It was the very first word, even! And in all caps.
You pressed on it as quickly as you could.
And when your eyes took in the rest of the message... your heart stopped.
MINHO WATCHED ONE OF YOUR VIDEOS!
...This had to be a prank, right?
But right after the message in all capital letters was a link to a YouTube video, and the preview for the video was right below the message.
It was one of those videos put out by a big fashion magazine where celebrities watch videos about them and react to it. Usually, musicians and singers would react to covers of their songs by fans, but every once in a while, actors would read tweets or watch fanmade videos about them.
And when you clicked on the link this person had sent, the video opened in your YouTube app to show the title “Choi Minho Watches Fan Videos on YouTube,” and your eyes widened.
If what the Instagram message said was true... Minho had watched not only a fan video... but your fan video. And since his movie was premiering in just a couple of days, he had most likely watched your reaction to the trailer.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Since the video had started automatically after clicking the link, you took a deep breath and concentrated all of your focus on your phone screen. You were not going to miss the part where he watched your video.
But, of course, after not even thirty seconds, you found you had already gotten distracted by how handsome he looked.
You quickly shook your head a bit, widening your eyes briefly before narrowing them to focus on your screen again. “Come on, Y/N,” you muttered to yourself. “You can watch it again right after this to admire him.”
It was only a fifteen-minute video, so it’s not like you had to wait forever to get to the part where he watched you!
Still, though, as the minutes ticked by, you felt your heart begin to race in anticipation.
What would he say about you? Would he find your obsession with him creepy? I mean, it had to be a little creepy watching someone squeal and profess their love for you -- someone you’d never met!
But, then... when you got really mushy comments... most of the time, it didn’t feel creepy. It just felt sweet, and you were incredibly grateful that a lot of your subscribers and viewers were so supportive.
Ugh! You were getting off track again!
You shook your head once more and set your gaze back onto your phone screen.
Finally, when the clip of Minho watching a fanmade music video transitioned into the clip of him watching your video, your breath caught in your throat.
Were you going to survive this?
Outcome is unclear.
“Oh, yeah, I know her,” Minho said as your trailer reaction video began to play in the corner. “She’s the reaction girl, right?”
Your jaw dropped.
................Excuse me?!
Minho knew you?!
As you watched Minho watching you with the most adorable soft grin on his lips, your hand slowly crept up to cover your mouth in shock.
And, then, when you in the video paused the trailer to bring up another one of his movies that this trailer had reminded you of, his grin widened and he looked very pleased. “She knows her stuff, huh?”
You heard someone behind the camera murmuring something, and subtitles appeared on the screen. “She’s a known superfan, actually.”
Minho’s brow furrowed and he leaned toward the camera. “She’s what?”
“A superfan,” the person repeated, a little bit louder. “She’s known to her viewers for watching all of your movies and shows. There are always comments about you on all of her videos.”
Minho’s eyes widened a little in surprise. “Really? All of them? Comments about me?” He leaned back and nodded slowly after, apparently, receiving a positive answer. “I had no idea. I’ve just seen her videos about, like, the cheesy teen movies we watched as kids.”
You truly almost dropped your phone.
So... he knew who you were, but he hadn’t known that you fangirled over him on a regular basis?
First of all, how was that possible?
Second of all, did it really matter?! He knew who you were!
He knew who you were!
You didn’t expect that he regularly watched your videos, but still.
HE KNEW WHO YOU WERE!
Your heart was practically beating out of your chest as you watched him finish up watching your reaction video. The look on his face was one of delight, and even though you knew he was a good actor, it sure didn’t seem like he was simply pretending not to be creeped out.
“She’s so fun,” he smiled as your video ended, his gaze shifting back to the person he had spoken with earlier. “She has more? Like, for my movies?”
The person mumbled something back, and this time, there were no subtitles on the bottom of the video. But Minho’s eyebrows shot up immediately.
“All of my movies?” he asked. And then he let out a joyous chuckle and added, “No way.”
He quickly turned to the computer and clicked on your channel name.
But the video transitioned into another clip of someone else’s video, so you didn’t get to see if he actually watched any other ones.
Even if he hadn’t, you were still overjoyed -- to say the least -- that he had watched just one!
He knew who you were! He had actually known who you were before this which was probably the most surprising thing you’d ever heard in your entire life. (Besides the fact that Minho was currently single. That was definitely more surprising than anything.)
After sitting in your bed for a few minutes, staring blankly at your screen as the video finished up, your gaze unfocused and blurry, you finally came to when you realized the video had ended.
And then you proceeded to freak out.
You squealed and shrieked and kicked your legs and rolled around and scrambled to your feet to jump up and down on your bed with glee.
Was this the best day of your life?
Quite possibly!
Once you’d calmed down just a tad, you plopped back into a sitting position, crossing your legs into a pretzel as you navigated back to Instagram.
You sent a reply to the person who’d sent you the video (”OH MY GOD THANK YOU HE KNOWS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”) and then refreshed your inbox.
As expected, a whole new slew of messages came through and literally every single one seemed to be about the video.
Your lips split into a huge grin, and just before you clicked on a random one to read and reply to it... you noticed that one message had a blue check by the sender.
Pausing, you shifted your gaze to that message.
And your heart jumped up into your throat when you recognized the name of the account.
Obviously, it wasn’t Minho himself because he didn’t have one.
But it was the next best thing.
His management company.
You followed them, of course, and liked every single picture about him or with him. Of course!
But you had never gathered up the courage to message them. You’d had no reason to! What would you have said?
And now they were messaging you.
Tumblr media
The several days following the video of Minho watching your video had been... a blur. To say the least.
You still weren’t even really sure how you’d gotten here.
I mean, you knew you were here because Minho’s management company had direct messaged you on Instagram inviting you to the premiere of his movie and you had accepted without one millisecond of hesitation and then you’d gotten on a plane a couple of days later and then checked into a super nice hotel and had a stylist and makeup artist sent to your room and after many hours you now looked better than you ever had in your entire life.
That’s how you got here.
But you still weren’t even really sure how you’d gotten here.
A rather large stroke of luck?
Good karma?
Hard work to grow your YouTube channel into something that would make you more easily recognizable by actual celebrities and their management companies?
Or a combination of the three?
Either way, you were overwhelmed with gratitude, and you knew you would never be able to forget this experience -- even if you, for some odd reason, wanted to.
I mean, you were currently in a really nice car, and the driver (yes, you had a driver!) was taking you to the red carpet.
The red carpet!
An actual movie premiere! With an actual red carpet!
And the movie was Minho’s movie.
You were at the premiere of Minho’s movie.
Oh my god, what if you saw him?!
As the car rolled to a stop in front of a crowded theatre, your heart and stomach dropped down to your very expensive and gorgeous shoes.
You’d gone to somewhat fancy events before -- it came with the job of being a YouTuber -- but never anything like this. Never an actual movie premiere. Never the chance of seeing your favorite actor in the history of time. And, obviously, never walking a red carpet.
Your door magically opened just as the car stopped moving, and a hand popped out of nowhere to assist you in exiting the vehicle. As gracefully as you could, you slipped your fingers into the mysterious palm, allowing it to gently pull you up and out of your seat and onto the sidewalk.
Almost immediately, camera clicks, light bulb flashes, and inquiring voices filled the air.
Cameras and lights in your face, you were used to. It was your everyday life, in fact!
But... all these people? Looking at you? Watching you? Taking pictures of you?
I mean, yeah, a few million people watched your videos. But it was absolutely not the same as a hundred or so reporters and photographers standing right in front of you.
Thankfully, some short but very powerful woman guided you onto the red carpet, muttering to you that all you had to do was stand in front of the backdrop, pose and smile for the cameras, and then move on to the next mark. Some reporters from news and entertainment channels would be waiting along the way to interview you (which didn’t scare you quite so much as you’d been interviewed a few times before), and all in all, it would take about an hour.
But it took you way less than an hour to discover that walking a red carpet is not as glamorous as it looks on television.
Walking like your shoes were covered in almost-frozen molasses so every photo taken was a good one. Switching back and forth between facial expressions so every photo taken wasn’t the same one. And do you know how many good places there are to put your hands when posing for a picture? Exactly two. One was on your hip and the other at your side. That was it. Definitely not clasped in front of or behind you, and definitely not tucking your hair behind your ear.
And just when you were sort of getting used to the constant posing for pictures, another short but powerful woman gently grabbed your arms and led you to a reporter from the most-watched entertainment news channel in the country.
“Hello, hello!” the perky reporter chirped as you approached her. “Come on over here!”
“Hi,” you greeted awkwardly as you made your way to the small mark on the ground next to her, holding up your skirt with one hand so you wouldn’t trip.
“Y/N! Good evening, good evening, how are you doing?” she asked before sticking the microphone in your face.
You had to quickly get over the shock of her knowing your name since you didn’t want to look like a fool on live television, so you forced a grin on your lips and answered, “I’m pretty overwhelmed, actually!” you chuckled.
“Is this your first time at a red carpet?”
“It is, yes,” you confirmed with a slight nod. “And I’m so used to being alone in my house, talking to myself in front of a camera, so this is all new territory for me.”
The reporter laughed with delight before asking which designer you were wearing. You answered her with ease since your stylist had drilled it into your brain before you’d left the hotel.
Then, after she asked you to tell the folks at home what you’re known for, she said, “It’s a pretty fun story of how you got here, isn’t it?”
“Oh, it is,” you answered, your lips pulling into a shy but excited grin. “I woke up one morning to a message on Instagram, and someone had sent me --”
The reporter interrupted you then, and you noticed her gaze was directed over your shoulder. You turned to look, and --
Well, the next few moments happened so quickly, you really had no idea how you reacted.
“Y/N!” Minho called out, smiling widely and waving before reaching out and sliding his hands over your shoulders. He stood next to you, squeezing you once before letting his arms drop down to his side. “I’m so sorry for interrupting --”
“No, we were just talking about why she’s here at your premiere!”
Minho’s smile brightened even more, and he continued on with the story you’d been telling.
Meanwhile, you were standing there. Mute. Staring at him.
Because oh my god.
How was it actually possible that Minho was more handsome in real life?
But also, how was it actually possible that Minho was standing next to you in real life?
But also also, how was it actually possible that Minho was real?
That’s the real question, isn’t it?
You came to when you heard him say, “Yes, this is our first time meeting,” before turning to you and holding out his hand for a handshake. “It’s so nice to finally meet you!”
You took his hand, shaking it weakly, and said the first thing that came to your mind: “Oh my god, hi.”
The reporter giggled, but Minho, instead of acting embarrassed for you, simply let go of your hand and moved to pull you into a hug.
Holy cannoli, Minho was hugging you.
Choi Minho. Was hugging. You.
Hugging!
You!
“It’s so nice to finally meet you!” he repeated with a grin after pulling away, though he was still incredibly close to you and gazing at you with those sparkling, dreamy eyes of his.
“You, too,” you managed to reply shakily.
The reporter then went on to interview Minho, asking him who had designed his suit, what his character in this new movie was like, and if he was working on any new projects.
“I’m in the early stages of something, yes,” he answered. “I don’t think I can say too much more, but in the meantime, I think I’d really like to film some videos with Y/N, branch out onto social media.”
Your heart stopped, and you knew your facial expression was doing nothing to hide your surprise.
Minho then turned to you with an adorably guilty look on his face. “I mean, if it’s alright with you, of course.”
“Yes, absolutely!” you burst out immediately, and the reporter giggled once again.
“Well, there you have it, guys,” she said after turning to face the camera. “You heard it here first -- a brand new collaboration in the works, so keep an eye out.”
She turned to you then and asked you to remind the viewers of the name of your YouTube channel. You leaned into the microphone and silently praised the lord you were able to remember it.
“Thanks so much, you two,” the reporter said with a very peppy grin. “Have a wonderful evening!”
“You, as well,” Minho answered before putting a hand in-between your shoulder blades and guiding you back to the red carpet.
Wait, he was guiding you back to the red carpet? He wasn’t... leaving?
“I’m so sorry,” he murmured in your ear, his breath causing the most delicious tingle down your spine. “I swear I wasn’t trying to be rude, I just wanted to meet you --”
“No,” you shook your head slightly. “It’s -- it’s totally fine. It wasn’t rude at all. I’m -- I just -- I’m a little overwhelmed. In a good way!”
“Totally understand. I remember my first movie premiere like it was yesterday, I know exactly how you’re feeling.”
You simply let out a nervous chuckle, but then Minho did something to make you even more nervous (which you hadn’t even been sure was possible).
He bent his arm and held out the crook of his elbow toward you.
“Shall we?”
Okay, you were now convinced this was a dream. This was all a wonderful, perfect, heavenly dream.
There was just no way that any of this could happen in real life! Being invited to Minho’s movie premiere was one thing, but him interrupting your interview on the red carpet and mentioning he wanted to film a YouTube video with you? Him offering to actually walk the red carpet with you on his arm?!
Nope. Definitely not real.
So, since this was absolutely a dream, you figured you’d just go with it!
“We shall,” you replied as a soft smile tugged at the corners of your lips.
You slid your hand into the crook of Minho’s elbow, and the two of you slowly made your way down the red carpet. Together.
It didn’t take long for you to be awed by his professionalism. When the cameras began to flash, he posed like a natural. It seemed so easy for him, but you figured it probably was easy after going through this so many times.
He murmured helpful hints and reassuring words to you as you struggled through, and he even insisted on doing his interviews with you by his side.
(Of course, before the two of you approached each reporter, he asked you quietly if you would rather have the spotlight all to yourself. He didn’t want to usurp your first experience on the red carpet and would gladly step away so you could finish the process on your own. You declined every single time.)
When you finally reached the entrance to the theatre about an hour later, you figured Minho would say it had been nice to meet you and be on his way.
But you should’ve remembered that this was a dream!
“Do you want to come inside? We can sit together during the movie if you want. I mean, you’re pretty much my unofficial date already, but you can absolutely say ‘no’ if you don’t --”
“I would love to,” you interrupted, your voice more sure and firm than it had been all evening.
But hearing your favorite actor and biggest crush of all time declare that you were his date for the night would do that to you. Plus, Minho literally exuded confidence and warmth -- you’d always thought so while watching him on a screen, and it was both relieving and exciting to learn he was exactly the same in real life.
Minho smiled at you and then led you into the theatre, your heart now basically in a constant state of flips and somersaults.
Once the two of you took your seats in front of the screen, Minho turned slightly toward you.
“I have to admit, I’ve been watching your videos a lot since I filmed the reaction for the magazine,” he said with the most attractive half-smile you’d ever seen in your life. “Seriously, thank you so much for being so supportive.”
“Oh my god, no, thank you,” you replied breathlessly. “I can’t believe you watched my videos.”
“They’re kind of addicting,” he chuckled. “I don’t know what it is, but I definitely understand why you have so many subscribers. I actually created my own YouTube account just so I could subscribe to you.”
Your eyes widened, and your heart actually stopped somersaulting because it stopped beating altogether.
“Are you serious?” you asked.
“You’re so entertaining! It feels like watching those movies and shows with a friend. And I like how you’re really honest but still nice about it. You don’t seem to have a cruel bone in your body.”
“Uh, no, I think you’re getting me mixed up with yourself,” you replied with a somewhat awkward laugh.
Minho simply grinned at you, and the somersaults started back up inside your chest.
“I was serious about wanting to film with you, though,” he said, eyebrows raised earnestly. “I would love to collab --”
“Yes, absolutely,” you reassured him as fervently as you could. “Literally whenever. Please. Yes.”
“Okay, good,” Minho chuckled before reaching into his pocket and sliding out his phone. “Here, give me your number so I can let you know when I’m free next.”
You hesitated before accepting his phone because...
What?!
Minho was giving you his phone. His actual phone. So you could put in your number? Your number?
This night just kept getting more and more unbelievable.
But you were never in a million years going to pass up the opportunity to give Choi Minho your phone number, so you took his phone and quickly added yourself as a contact.
“Perfect,” Minho murmured, almost to himself, when you handed his phone back to him. He looked at the screen for a few moments, and you noticed a soft grin pulling at his lips. And then he shifted his gaze over to you and said, “I can’t wait.”
And... as your eyes locked on his...
You had a moment.
A moment.
One of those moments you will never, ever forget as long as you lived.
One of those moments where your future basically flashed before your eyes.
Minho arriving at your house to film a video with you, a friendship forming, late night texts and phone conversations, going out to restaurants whenever he was in town... a more than friendship forming.
And you truly could’ve sworn this was not just your heart wishing, but... you honestly felt like you were going to marry this man.
“I can’t either,” you replied softly just before the lights went down.
Tumblr media
The first thing you did when you got home was set up your camera and film a video relaying everything about your experience at Minho’s movie premiere.
Of course, you didn’t mention The Moment -- y’know, the moment you had when you realized you were most probably going to marry him? And you could just feel that it wasn’t wishful thinking? You figured it was probably best to keep that to yourself for now.
But everything else you shared with your subscribers, and you did nothing to hide how wonderful and magical it had all been -- and it had really been Minho which had made it so perfect.
“And you guys, he is truly exactly the same in person as he seems in, like, interviews and stuff. He’s so nice and so friendly and so warm and so gracious and --”
But you were interrupted by a text message.
Most of the time, you left your phone on silent as you filmed, but you’d been too excited to get all of your thoughts out that you’d forgotten to switch the sound off before turning the camera on.
“Whoops,” you murmured as you reached for your phone on your desk in front of you.
Instead of simply turning your phone on silent, though, the actual text message you’d received caught your eye and was too intriguing to ignore.
It was from a number you didn’t have saved, but your instinct to read the first few words of a message from an unknown sender took over... and you were incredibly glad it did.
Because the message was:
Hey, it’s Minho 😁 Are you free next week?

Article: ‘The Most Powerful Woman in Gaming Wants to Make EA Loved Again’
Laura Miele is helping direct the company toward a future where it’s more attuned with consumers.
One of the first things Laura Miele did when she became chief studios officer of Electronic Arts Inc. three years ago was to gather 19 video game influencers in a conference room. “What do you want me to hear? Lay it on me,” she recalls asking them. “One guy sitting at the corner of the table, he just said, ‘I don’t understand why you don’t give players what they’re asking for.’ ”

One of the first things Laura Miele did when she became chief studios officer of Electronic Arts Inc. three years ago was to gather 19 video game influencers in a conference room. “What do you want me to hear? Lay it on me,” she recalls asking them. “One guy sitting at the corner of the table, he just said, ‘I don’t understand why you don’t give players what they’re asking for.’ ”
It’s something many gamers have wondered about EA for years. The $40 billion company, one of the biggest in gaming, is responsible for Battlefield, Madden NFL, and other megahit franchises. But many gamers have long seen EA as a necessary evil, resenting the direction in which it took some games and bristling at its aggressive attempts to extract money by charging extra for digital items in games that cost as much as $70 upfront. This dissatisfaction was no secret in 2018: Gamers spent their days filling up Reddit and other message boards with free advice for EA—but many felt its decision-makers weren’t listening.
EA’s leadership knows it has to improve that relationship, and Miele is a key player in its efforts to do so. Her focus group asked for new content for Star Wars Battlefront II and requested new types of games. Miele quickly assigned 70 people to the Battlefront development project, which dramatically improved its net promoter score, a measure of how likely people are to recommend the game. She also prompted EA to create a skateboarding game and committed to reintroducing its college football franchise, the two genres at the top of the influencers’ list.
In a sense, the guy at the meeting became a stand-in for all of EA’s long-suffering customers in Miele’s eyes. “I wanted to do right by this player,” she says.
As chief studios officer, Miele manages 6,000 staffers and thousands of contractors globally. She oversees EA’s 24 studios, where she makes personnel decisions and sets strategy, and she’s reshaped how the company uses analytics to create and market its games.
In the process she may have become the most powerful woman in gaming. In a 2019 International Game Developers Association survey, fewer than 30% of the more than 1,100 respondents were women, and few if any hold a more central role at such an important company. “It’s a tough place for a woman,” says Peter Moore, who was Miele’s boss when he was EA’s chief operating officer. “It wasn’t always smooth sailing, but she battled her way through.”
Proving good intentions is more important for EA than ever, as the business model of gaming continues to shift in ways that have the potential to alienate customers. Like its rivals, the company is increasing its focus on free-to-play games, making money through sales of digital products such as outfits and weapons for characters.
There are signs it’s succeeding. Apex Legends, EA’s free-to-play hero shooter game, has posted more than $1 billion in sales since it was first published in 2019, and it continues to grow. “The way to succeed with free-to-play games like that is to listen to and engage your customer base and earn their loyalty through incremental purchases,” says Doug Clinton, managing partner of the venture capital firm Loup Ventures, who says Miele deserves much of the credit for Apex Legends. “It feels like a proof point for her that the company is adapting well beyond traditional disk sales.”
Miele, 51, was born in San Francisco but grew up on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. She got her start in games—the kind that require a board—during family nights, when she pitted herself against her brother in Monopoly, Clue, Yahtzee, and backgammon. While attending the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, she worked at architectural companies. By the time she dropped out she’d moved on from receptionist positions to more senior roles, while gaining a reputation for organizing lunch-hour card games with her co-workers.
Miele landed a job as a project manager at Westwood Studios, a video game developer best known for Command and Conquer, in 1996. She eventually took over all marketing for its parent company, Virgin Interactive.
It wasn’t always a hospitable atmosphere: Miele remembers her colleagues expecting her to take notes at meetings, then clean up afterward. “That is just not something I would do today,” she says. “I adapted a lot because I was so passionate about what I was doing. I found my voice along the way.”
When EA acquired Westwood in 1998, she stayed on. At the time, the company did revenue forecasting by looking at sales data once a month and putting together spreadsheets by hand. Miele was tasked with developing more advanced analytics. She hired a group of data analysts, nicknamed “the Jedi,” and had them build EA’s first statistical regression models to examine sales trends, seasonality, and preorders. It took almost two years to put the system in place, but it overhauled the company’s business processes, and executives were soon using it to determine how to invest in advertising and promotions. “I loved how data and analytics can inform your judgment and your gut instinct,” Miele says.
Miele also decided to make one major break with EA’s existing business practices. In 2011 about 80% of game advertising budgets were spent on TV ads. But she saw how much time gamers spent online and decided to spend the bulk of the ad budget for Battlefield 3 on digital, downplaying other types of ads and cutting the TV ad budget to only 30%.
Messing around with the plan for Battlefield 3 was a good way to make people nervous. Miele remembers two executives calling her in for a meeting and demanding to know why they weren’t seeing billboards for the game as they drove in to the office. “It was scary for me, too, and I don’t blame our executives questioning me on that,” she says. But the game ended up being EA’s fastest-selling, moving more than 5 million copies in its first week. From that point, Miele’s marketing strategy became the standard for the company.
When EA signed a 10-year deal with Walt Disney Co. in 2013, Miele became Star Wars general manager. In 2014 she took over publishing operations, marketing, and other key areas, first in the North American region, then globally in 2016. At the time, the game industry was moving from physical disks to digital downloads, transforming its relationship with retail partners such as Walmart Inc. and Best Buy Co.
Miele was in charge of smoothing things over, explaining that EA would start competing with them for customers even as the retailers accounted for the largest portion of the revenue. “I never said to them, ‘Hey, see you later, we are moving on,’ ” she says. “It was, ‘How can we move forward together?’ ” EA began making physical cards with digital credits that its retail partners could sell at their stores, allowing them to share in the revenue from digital sales.
EA’s studios are spread around the globe, and Covid-19 altered Miele’s routine radically. “It was a very difficult year, and I’m really proud about how our company showed up,” she says. “I considered myself a wartime leader last year. You had to get in a bunker with everybody.”
Days became an endless progression of Zoom calls. To keep up with gamers, Miele started spending evenings listening to Clubhouse chats while answering work emails. Because she hasn’t been on the road, she’s also had more time to dine at home and play board games or Apex Legends and The Sims with her 16-year-old twins. As the pandemic retreats in the U.S., her schedule might change, but she still envisions providing more flexibility to her employees to work from home and office. “I do think we’re going to have a different work environment as we go forward,” she says.
Miele is itching to get back to the studio visits. She’s helping steer EA further toward smartphones. The company plans to release mobile versions of Apex Legends globally this year and spent $2.1 billion in April for Glu Mobile Inc., a mobile game publisher, while also preparing the next releases in its existing franchises. “I think the next Battlefield and the mobile shooter games, along with how successful the M&As come out will be key litmus tests of her management this year,” says Matt Kanterman, an analyst with Bloomberg Intelligence. “Her scope is clearly rising.”

I love your how to handle fame series and I totally get if you’re six of writing for this AU but if you aren’t I’d love one with them making the relationship official like Annabeth telling Percy he can post a picture of them for the first time or her telling him she wants to make it official and post on social media and Percy just being happy to tell the world that she’s his and vice versa
CONTINUATION OF: PART 9
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6 , Part 7,  Part 8
If Percy ever decides to pick up the memoir business again, the entire thing could be about the past two days, which have downright been the weirdest, most surreal days of his whole life.
On second thought, maybe he wouldn’t be able to write it because he’s spent all weekend trying to compartmentalize it and it still feels like a blur.
Like one really long day.
And you’d think, given the magnitude of the events that had occurred, he’d remember it better.
CHB had been the first to report the news, courtesy of that lady shoving a mic in his face, but the interview had really sealed the deal. Zoe Nightshade is acclaimed for reporting facts not fiction in the celeb news world, so going on her show to talk about it had been the best way to get the right version of the story out there.
All he remembers about the set are the hot lights, the white couch (that he was immediately worried about ruining) and Annabeth by his side, holding his hand.
Overall, it had been good. The entire thing had been premeditated by Annabeth, who had started off the interview explaining how they wanted to go public on their own terms instead of someone else leaking it, but that they still wished to keep their personal lives private.
Percy had also kept to his premeditated script, saying he’s a barista from New York, and shifting the dialogue (as Annabeth called it) to their meeting.
After the interview Annabeth had given him a big hug and told him it was a success.
But then…..oh then, came The Notifications™.
As if he didn’t already spend too much time on his phone, he’s been glued to it all weekend.
“It’s going to be rough,” Annabeth had said with the same worried face that she had when the talk about going public had come up a month ago.
And Percy knows, right, he’s been in the service industry and knows how people can be jerks. He knows there’s going to be backlash.
Maybe that’s why Annabeth had rented a beach house far down the coast and been by his side constantly the past two days.
He glances over at her, leaning back on her comfy wicker chair with her feet propped, reading a book. As if she can tell he’s looking at her, she puts down her book and turns to face him.
“What’s up?’
Her long legs look golden in the sunlight filtering through the light curtains and she’s practically glowing with the beach air wafting through the open window.
Long story short, she looks beautiful.
Focusing his brain from the detour it took to admire her, he shakes his head.
“Nothing…just wondering how I got here.”
She picks up her cup of tea from the table beside her. “What do you mean?”
Leaning back against the headboard of the bed, he stares at the high planked ceiling.
“I don’t know…just everything. I mean for one, I’ve never seen so many pictures of myself…even my mom’s albums would have a tough time competing…actually, they might still win now that I think about it.”
Annabeth chuckles at that. And while it’s true his mom has an absurd amount of pictures, him and Annabeth have been plastered a fair amount on various articles and social media. He’d kept his Instagram private, but his Twitter hadn’t stopped blowing up.
“And I’ve never had this many people talk or…speculate about me.” He drops his gaze from the ceiling to once again land on her. “Like, it’s the most hate I’ve ever gotten…”
The inevitable comments on him being a gold digger, though expected, had been hard to see. It stung a little to think people thought he was anything other than hopelessly in love with his girlfriend.
But no one had been more pissed than Annabeth and it had taken kisses from him to distract her.
He sees the same anger and worry start to flare up now, her eyebrows already creasing together, and rushes to complete his thought.
“But it’s also the most support I’d gotten.”
Luckily, an overwhelming majority of Annabeth’s fans had been super supportive of them. One picture in particular, one of them standing at the red carpet staring into each other’s eyes, had gone viral and “Percabeth” (as people were dubbing them) had been number one on trending for a whole day.
So many people not only calling them cute, but also describing him as hot. Percy had almost laughed out loud when he’d first read comments gushing about how attractive he was. (Take that, Nancy Bobofit, who called him ugly in middle school.)
“It’s just really crazy I guess, I never expected this from my life.”
He really should write a memoir. Other people need to know how almost comically absurd his life is now. (It would start with riding the subway to school every day.)
Annabeth sits up in her chair, still wearing the frown from earlier.
“Do you regret it?”
She asks calmly enough, but he can see the worry behind her eyes and the fear creep into her tone. He slides off the bed and walks to her, sitting on the footstool she’d been propping her feet on a second ago.
“Not at all.”
Reaching for her hand, he raises it to her lips, keeping eye contact. She needs to know that he’d take it all if it means he gets to be with her.
The day after the interview, Annabeth had told him to pick out a picture of them to post on her Instagram. And though it had immediately become her most liked picture, it wasn’t just fan service. The smile on her face when she posted it had made Percy’s heart melt even more.
Because the truth is, despite everything, it feels so good to call her his in front of the whole world.
Annabeth smiles, pulling their intertwined hands close to her and resting her cheek against them.
“Good.”
His phone vibrates and he can’t help but look over. Annabeth smiles, amusedly. “Who is it?”
He reaches for the device, unlocking it with a swipe. “My mom.”
“What’s she saying?”
He smiles as he reads the text. “That her friends are blowing up about this.”
Annabeth chuckles. “Don’t worry, it’ll blow over soon.”
Almost automatically, he opens up Twitter. It’s become a bad habit over the past two days.  “Well, we have been trending for a while…”
His sentence veers off as he checks the trending tab. Number one this morning had been a kpop star whose birthday was today and “Percabeth” had been second.
But now number one was…Jogan Paul, who had apparently been caught in some money laundering scheme and become the center of all public outrage. Number two was still the kpop star and number three was #ultranatural.
“Percabeth” was nowhere to be found.
“You’re right…we’re not trending anymore, some other guy, Jogan did a—”
“Money laundering scheme?” Annabeth finishes and he looks up from his phone to see her smile over her tea.
“Yeah…everyone’s talking about him….and then it’s a k—”
“Kpop idol? Yeah, it’s P-Dawn’s birthday,” Annabeth finishes again.
Percy stares at her.
Annabeth, after posting the Instagram photo, hadn’t checked her phone almost all weekend, letting him look at everything going on.
So how could she know all this? He’s pretty sure she hasn’t checked her phone in hours, instead working her way though her book.
“Yeah…” he continues, still confused. “So we’re not trending anymore. This Jogan guy really messed stuff up…”
Annabeth shrugs, still smiling. “That’s how it goes, people move on from things quickly.”
He nods. He knows this. And personally he’s glad that they’re not the main topic of conversation now. It feels like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders. He puts down his phone with a smile.
“Yeah, it’s fortunate that this guy messed up, really took the eyes off of us.”
Of course, not all the eyes. Annabeth’s fans will still talk about it, but now the media has something juicer to report on.
“Yeah, fortunate,” Annabeth repeats, lifting her cup again to take a sip, but she can’t hide her smile.
Something about this feels…
“Did you know about this?”
Annabeth just takes a sip of her tea.
Peering over the cup, she replies sweetly, “Did you know the season finale of Ultranatural is on tonight?”
And that’s all the answer he needs.
(So he naturally responds by picking her up and tossing her in bed, letting her laughs bounce off the high ceilings as he wraps her in a hug, thinking that there needs to be a whole chapter in his memoir about just how smart his girlfriend is.)
A/N: As I said in the beginning, this is the continuation to the last chapter in the how to handle fame series. Thank you for sending in the prompt! It’s been a popular one and I had a whole storyline for it (though I did include the insta pic :)
When I came up with this plotline I just couldn’t get the idea out of my head that Annabeth would totally mastermind the entire thing and make sure that their relationship didn’t get too much heat.
Plus, let’s be real, news moves fast, and their relationship, while a big thing, isn’t the only thing going on the world for people to talk about. And stories that spark outrage blow up more than two people dating, so I tried to keep this as realistic as I could.
Part of the reason it’s taken so long for this is because I truly wasn’t sure the best way to tackle this whole thing while still staying true to reality as best I could. So when I thought of the Annabeth planning out this whole thing I thought it was fun and cute and went for it. I mean this entire series has taken off in a way I had truly never imagined.
A lot of people had requested the whole going public thing and how it would play out, so I really hope you guys liked this! (And thank you anon for sending in the prompt I used to post this :)
(Also a lot of references to things that have happened semi-recently so lmk if you’ve figured them out, not that they’re that hard lol)

AN:  I wrote this crackish Tamaki smut prompt for @liliesoftherain and I’s server Dessert May prompts. Did anyone ask for this? No. Did I enjoy torturing poor Tamaki? Yes. Did I possibly bully my entire server to do this prompt so I have a reason to write this? Maybe. I haven’t completely edited this yet, will continue to edit it throughout the day. So excuse the typos and point them out in comments if you notice anything.
Warning: Explicit smut involving handjob and a blowjob between Fem Reader and Tamaki.

--------------------
Tamaki admired Mirio immensely. The thing he admired about him the most, was the fact Mirio was able to approach anyone and befriend them in a couple of minutes. Or at least remain acquaintances and be on friendly terms with them. Unfortunately for Tamaki it was the complete opposite. He could barely utter a few sentences to someone he didn’t know personally. That was the reason he managed to have only one best friend since elementary school. Furthermore, Tamaki didn’t befriend Nejire until high school. It was kind of sad to be honest and he severely wished he could emulate Mirio.
He wanted to be able to chat with his classmates about the newest video game or even about the weather if he could manage it. But Tamaki couldn’t muster the courage, and neither would any of them approach him. Apparently, being one of the big three meant that you were off limits and intimidating. Even though all of them saw him blushing and crouching against the nearest wall, they still stayed away.
However, recently since gaining his courage and fighting villains, gave him the courage to want to change himself. Tamaki was finally going to befriend people. Well, other than Mirio, Neijire, and did Kirishima count?
Tamaki took a deep breath to settle the anxiety bubbling in stomach. Yes, he was going to approach someone first and talk to them! He had even written down a few topics to talk about on his notecard. He was ready to take that step!
Tamaki looked up to see a group of his classmates leaving. Releasing a shuddering breath, he left go of his tight grip on his desk. Showtime.
Tamaki slipped his backpack on and got ready to leave. He followed the group of boys behind them, his plan was to interrupt and ask them if he could join. Being their classmate hopefully they would say yes.
“Uwaa, Ren-kun you bought the newest issue? How was it?” A boy with brown spikey hair named Seiji asked.
“It was really amazing, worth every yen. I had to hide it from my parents, but I managed it.” Ren stated smugly.
All the boys uttered expressions of amazements. “Sugeiii!”
Tamaki from behind wanted to ask what they were talking about as he opened his mouth only to hesitate horribly and squeak.
The boys fortunately didn’t hear that and kept walking.
“I don’t have enough courage to even step in front of the cashier with that!”
Ren put his arm around his friend Seiji. “Don’t worry I gotchu. I’ll let you borrow it!”
Immediately everyone else erupted, asking for Ren to also borrow who only laughed smugly.
The boys walked away in a hurry, leaving behind a terrified and disappointed Tamaki.
He sighed sadly and knew that he would fail eventually, but at least he tried. So, Tamaki trudged home, his failure weighing on him heavily.
The sunny day contrasting tremendously with his current mood, he was about to cross the street when he noticed a bookstore.
The boys were talking about the newest issue, so maybe he could buy and read it! Hopefully finish it by tomorrow and have something to talk about when he got to school.
Feeling much happier about his revised plan, Tamaki strolled in and wandered for a few minutes before he found the manga they were talking about. It was a pink and orange cover with the words “Passion Week” splashed in lime green. That was a weird name for a shounen manga, but Tamaki shrugged. He hadn’t read a manga for a couple years now so maybe that was the trend nowadays?
He waited in line patiently before it was his turn. Stuttering his way through the greeting to the cashier, he quickly put down the manga.
The cashier picked up the merchandise and froze. He eyed Tamaki suspiciously and shot him a judgmental look.
Tamaki blushed heavily and quickly laid down some yen, murmuring for them to keep the change and quickly ran out of the bookstore.
That was weird, he couldn’t help but think. Maybe he looked suspicious or the cashier recognized him as an intern for Fatgum?
Trying not to let it get to him too much otherwise he could spend hours being paranoid about what happened.
Tamaki waited till he got home and settled. Taking care to get undressed and munched on a snack before he grabbed the manga to begin reading. The beginning was pretty soothing, it was a love story between childhood friends. He liked how innocent the vibe was, it kind of felt like a slice of life. Way different than the shounen manga he figured the boys liked. Then a few pages later the vibe started getting different, Tamaki felt his eyebrow furrow. Huh, maybe it was a mix between a mystery and a slice of life? He skipped a few pages to see where the plot was heading and shortly felt his face explode in a plethora of color. Tamaki could feel his eyes swirling and steaming blowing out of his ears.
Oh no. This wasn’t a shounen manga. Or a slice of life. Not even in the slightest. Tamaki squeaked and threw the comic from him as far as humanly possible.
He didn’t know it was possible for girls to put that in their mouths!! Tamaki gulped as he tried to process what his naked eyes had just seen. The manga was porn. His classmates were talking about reading p-o-r-n!!!
No wonder the cashier gave him such a weird look, there was no way he could step into that store ever again! He covered his face with his hands and let out a low groan. He just wanted to befriend his classmates why was this so hard??! Tamaki gave up, he wasn’t going to discuss porn with his classmates even if they became best friends for life. He was satisfied with Mirio who he was sure had never seen a naked girl. Nor did he read porn well as far as Tamaki knew.
He threw a look at the cursed manga he threw across his room. Now what was he doing to do with that?
 A week later~
Y/N cheerfully skipped and hummed under her breath as she followed Mirio. The two of them were classmates in Class 3-B and since the first day of class somehow ended up sharing lunch with Nejire-chan and Amajiki-kun.
Today was an especially amazing day because she bought another set of desserts from the foreign bakery that opened up nearby. It was incredible, there were so many Italian sweets, the likes of which she had never seen before. Just yesterday she tried a Panforte and moaned as the nutty and fruity flavor exploded in her mouth. It was destiny! Y/N was in love with the quaint Italian bakery and she made sure to promise herself to pick a different pastry for lunch every day.
Y/N waved at Nejire-chan who was excitedly doing the same, almost falling off the bench in her endeavor.
“Y/N-chan! Did you grab something else today too?” Nejire asked excitedly. Y/N imagined a tail wagging behind her.
She nodded in affirmation and turned to greet the shy, pointy eared boy.
“Amajiki-kun! How are you?” The boy merely turned his head away, blushing deeply as he mumbled a response.
Y/N smiled patiently at him. He had always been like that with her. At first, she thought he hated her, but after talking with both Mirio and Nejire-chan they both reassured her that wasn’t the case and he was merely shy with strangers. So, she let it go and waited enduringly. Y/N hoped one day they could be good friends.
Mirio collapsed next to her and opened his large bento to start wolfing it down.
Y/N opened her own that her oka-san prepared for her and also took out the neatly packed bakery sweets. They were adorably wrapped in bows. Nejire-chan cooed at the sight.
“I bought something called Cannolis today! These are filled with sweet cream and some chocolate chips,” Y/N explained showing the tube-shaped shells.
Neijire was about to take one for herself before her hand got slapped by Y/N.
“Eat your bento first,” she said strictly.
Nejire pouted and settled down the bench before taking up wooden chopsticks and forlornly ate her lunch.
The four of them settled into a comfortable silence with only Mirio eagerly breaking it, talking about his exciting internship with Sir Nighteye.
“He seems strict at first, but really you just need to make him laugh to break the ice is what I told Izuku! I hope Sir Nighteye can see Izuku for who he is soon,” Mirio said.
Y/N nodded absentmindedly, Mirio had told them this story like 10 times this week. It was getting kind of boring, but the trio didn’t have it in them to tell their excited friend the truth.
Soon enough everyone finished their bentos, except for Nejire who set aside the rest of her plain rice, too excited for the dessert.
Y/N passed one to Mirio, who took a huge chomp and with his full, puffy cheeks managed to mumble out a “thanks.” She giggled at her silly friend before offering one to Nejire-chan. And finally, to her shy friend who with rosy cheeks, quickly bowed to her in thanks.
She took one for herself and took a tentative bite. The cream was really sugary, but the doughy bread mixed well, and the chocolate chips provided a slight bitter taste. The heaven in her mouth made her slightly orgasmic as she relished with joy. Y/N took another bite and moaned at the flavors in her mouth. Seriously, that bakery was top notch! She exchanged a delight look with Nejire who also was enthusiastically finishing her own treat, with cream covering the corners of her mouth.
Unknown to either of the girls, Tamaki had frozen in his seat. His hand was suspended in midair as he stared fixedly at Y/N’s face. The moan, the cream, and the flush of her cheeks resembled way too much what he had read in Passion Week! Ever since that awful week, Tamaki noticed things he normally wouldn’t have. Especially things regarding Y/N, like how pouty her lips were or how she seemed to bite her lips often.
Tamaki flushed red as blood flowed down to an entirely inappropriate place. When Y/N let out another girlish sigh, he stiffened and jumped out of his seat. He could no longer hide how excited he was and so he quickly covered his front with his school uniform. Tamaki dashed away from the scene, humiliated beyond belief.
Y/N turned to her friends, who looked just as baffled as her at Amajiki-kun’s behavior.
“The pastry wasn’t that bad was it guys?”
 A week later:
Y/N scowled while she stared at the bench. It had been a week since Amajiki-kun last ate with them. Ever since that day where he strangely ran away, Amajiki-kun refused to eat with them. Y/N felt distressed, she didn’t realize how much she would miss her shy friend. His silent but supportive presence was a much-needed reprieve from Mirio and Nejire’s chan hyper and exuberant companies.
Moreover Amajiki-kun interacted with Nejire and Mirio frequently, but he was extensively avoiding Y/N more than he usually did. Sure, he blushed heavily, rarely spoke, and stuttered whenever he attempted to talk to her, but at least he didn’t run away at the sight of her. Y/N didn’t know what she did for him to be so upset at her. Both of her other friends told her to wait it out, they were sure Tamaki would get over whatever that was bothering him. But Y/N wasn’t so sure, she was convinced he hated her. Her lip quivered and she felt the urge to cry.
Y/N jumped when she felt a touch on her shoulder. She turned around to see Nejire-chan looking sympathetically at her.
“if it’s bothering you so much go talk to him!”
“But you said to wait it out,” Y/N said confused.
“I know! But both of you are driving me nuts so go fix it right now,” she said cheerfully.
Y/N smiled wryly at her friend and sighed.
“Fine, I will go. Don’t get your hopes up though. I doubt we will even talk before he runs away again.”
Y/N trudged though U.A. looking for the sight of the pointed ear boy and found him tucked away in the obscure parts on the grounds of U.A.
She approached slowly and quietly, trying not to spook him before they got to talk. He finally noticed her when she stepped in front of him and he peeked at her nervously through his navy hair.
“Hi, Amajiki-kun. Do you mind if we talk? I have something to ask you.”
He shook his head and scooted over so she could sit on the grass next to him.
She began right away, not wasting time. “So, I’ve noticed this past week. You’ve been avoiding us or specifically me. I don’t know what I’ve done to make you upset and I’m really sorry. Please don’t be mad,” she began, her eyes started getting watery, her voice getting more and more emotional.
“I just want to be friends again. I want to eat with you again. Please, come back,” Y/N choked out.
Tamaki jumped hearing the emotional plea, he looked at her in horror. He didn’t want to make her cry! God, he was an awful friend.
“No! I-It wasn’t your fault,” he replied quietly. “It’s mine.” She sniffed and calmed herself.
Y/N looked at him confusingly. “What do you mean?”
He hesitated for a couple of minutes, unable to make up his mind whether to come clean to her.
“I promise I won’t judge. We’re friends, aren’t we?”
He nodded. “I read something that was bad. Now I can’t get it out of my mind, and I see it everywhere. And you eating cannolis reminded me of what I read.”
Y/N cocked her head to the side. “What was so bad about it? And why did cannolis remind you of that?”
Tamaki whimpered as his face became flushed and he buried his face in his hands.
“Because i-it was meant for adults! I didn’t mean to and it was by accident. I bought the wrong book and the character put something in her mouth from the male character. It looked like a cannoli!” he managed to get out between smushing his face in his hands.
Y/N’s face twisted as she tried to decipher his words. What was so bad about a book? Then it hit her. It was for adults and it was shaped like a cannoli which resembled a body part. Oh. Oh.
Her own body started flushing. “You read a hentai??!” she exclaimed.
Tamaki let out a sound that sounded like a dying animal and curled himself even more.
Y/N immediately backpedaled, “noooo! It’s not a bad thing. It’s completely normal to be curious. I’m sure a lot of boys our age do! Heck, I’m pretty sure even girls do so please don’t be embarrassed.”
Tamaki peeked from behind his fingers at her. “Really?”
She eagerly nodded. “You should ask Mirio! I wouldn’t be surprised if he does too!”
Tamaki froze at that statement. Oh god, he never wanted to know if his best friend did.
“So, why did you run away? Even if you read that it doesn’t explain why you’ve been avoiding me!”
Tamaki floundered for a minute, indecisive whether he should admit his guilt. He didn’t want to see Y/N’s lovely face with revulsion on it. Tamaki since he met her, thought she was unbelievably pretty, not like Nejire who was attractive in her own way. But rather beautiful in a way that made his heart pound.
“Because after I saw you, I got too excited. I didn’t want you to be disgusted and hate me,” he whispered, admitting his shame.
Y/N perked up, excited? There was always a part of her that found her friend attractive and cute. She wanted to get to know him better, but it was obvious to her Amajiki-kun didn’t need a girlfriend but rather a friend. So, she shoved that part of her far away and settled for giving him his space. Y/N wanted Amajiki-kun to be comfortable around her and she couldn’t do that if she was always flirting and embarrassing him.
She scooted closer to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“I wouldn’t hate you for something like that. In fact, I have a solution if you’re willing to hear it.”
Tamaki straightened up and removed the hands on his face. She wasn’t mad? She didn’t hate him? Everything about this was way too good to be true.
“A solution? Like what?” he croaked out
She slid her hand from his shoulder all the way to his hand and squeezed it.
“Every time you feel excited, I wouldn’t mind helping you out,” she said softly.
Tamaki shocked beyond his words, could only numbly nod. He let out a squeak when he felt her hands started raking down his chest.
“Relax… Let me take care of you.”
Y/N as she teased her way down his body, felt the muscles underneath his shirt twitch and flex. Meanwhile, she removed his uniform jacket with the other hand. Tamaki felt his breaths get heavy with excitement, his ears and neck both were flushed red. He couldn’t believe what was happening, he honestly thought Y/N wouldn’t speak to him again! Her hands finally made it to his pants, he let out a whine when her hand pulled down the zipper.
Y/N jerked his pants down and dipped her hands to feel his cock. It took a few pumps before the member got engorged with blood, throbbing with heat. Y/N felt herself salivate, he was the perfect size, not too large and not too small. It was too bad Y/N couldn’t just swing her leg over and mount him like she wanted. But perhaps she could find an excuse to get him alone in her dorm room later. Tamaki whimpered with need when he felt her swipe her thumb across his weeping head.
God, he couldn’t do this. Tamaki could feel himself panic, he needed to hide. This was way too embarrassing, he looked side to side trying to find a way to escape. He choked out a groan when Y/N started a fast rhythm, pumping his cock in a way that made him dizzy. Tamaki slumped and rested his forehead on Y/N’s neck.
She could feel his hefty, hot breaths on her skin. The only other sounds that filtered out was the sound of fast, slick skin sliding and the occasional cry that erupted out of Tamaki who couldn’t suppress it any longer. Y/N stiffened when she felt his tongue flick out and accidently lick her neck. Tamaki for his part was trying to maintain composure and nervously licked his dry and chapped lips. She let go of his shaft and spit a wad of saliva on her hand before resuming her fast rhythm.
Tamaki bucked his hips into her hand, a crescendo of wails spewed out of his mouth. His eyes started tearing up, he sobbed out his pleas, asking for what he didn’t know. She could see the telltale signs that he was close, and so she shrugged him off her before bending down low. Tamaki blinked through his wet lashes to see why his safe place was gone, only to clench his eyes shut as he felt a warm and wet tongue close around his cock. Y/N hallowed her cheeks as she sucked the bulbous head and finally felt him explode. He gasped out and writhed in his spot as pleasure coursed throughout his body. His legs shook and his dick gushed out an excess of warm cum.
Y/N kept swallowing in a rush, trying to down the overflow. Still despite her vigilance, some spilled out as he kept cumming. Finally, his member twitched one last time before she licked it clean and straightened up. Y/N wiped the cum on her face before she looked at Tamaki in the eyes and made a show of licking it clean.
“It’s tasty and sweet. You should definitely let me do this more often,” she teased him.
Tamaki felt his eyes widen and became speechless at her cheek.
Y/N helped to tuck himself back in and made him look presentable before standing up and stretching her cramped legs.
“Come on, I think there’s still time to join Nejire-chan and Mirio. Let’s go eat lunch.”
He nodded and put his jacket back on. Just as Y/N was about to turn away, he grabbed the back of her shirt and pulled.
She looked back at him and shot him a questioning look.
“I want you to call me, T-tamaki,” he whispered.
Y/N shot him a warm smile and grabbed his hands.
“Ok, let’s go, Tamaki-kun”
Mirio and Nejire both exchanged a look of glee when they saw their friends finally return with their hands interlocked and happiness prominent on their faces.

persona 5 strikers thoughts and feelings
This is going to be a long post. Like, the type of post you’d only really have time to read when you’re trying to sleep but you’re not ready to be unconscious yet so you’re just looking for something to do to spend your time with minimal effort.
So in 2018, a masterpiece was born into the world: Into the Spider-verse was released and it was amazing—it’s honestly the best spiderman movie we have without a doubt, and it’ll be very far into the future before Spider-verse is beaten as the best spiderman movie. Them’s the facts. Then in 2019, Spider-man: Far From Home was dropped. It’s a great movie! Great characters, great continuation of who these characters are and works fantastic as a continuation of a story. It’s really hard trying to take the torch of a previous movie (or in Marvel’s case, juggling twenty something movies) and come up with a new movie that both works on its own, as well as being the next step in this series of films. Thus, with that idea in mind, I think it’s kind of unfair to judge into the spiderverse and far from home, because these are two movies with two completely different objectives in mind.
Okay, so this is still a persona 5 strikers post, I promise, but the idea is the same: Persona 5 could basically do whatever it wanted—new story, new characters, new everything, and it’s just plain old awesome. However, Persona 5 strikers did not have that sort of freedom. It was bound to the original game, and it had its own rules and stuff it had to keep intact, characters they had to work with, and on top of that, it had to justify its existence as a sequel (lets pretend money doesnt exist lmfao).
SO, the big question is: did it do that? Did it justify its existence?
And my answer: holy fuck did it ever do that
I came into this game knowing the extreme bare minimum. I knew there was someone named Sophia, and i knew there was roadtrip, and i knew there were Personas. That’s my knowledge of it before i played it on the Switch.  I should also clarify like, early on, that i was not expecting anything from this game. At all. I was the world’s biggest cynic of this game—if you scroll down my p5s tag far enough, youll just see me complaining about a game that hasn’t even come out yet. I was fully expecting to have this be a Waifu show, and any male character that isn’t Akira to just be shoved aside like some kind of nerd in a high school hallway, and i have never been more pleased to be wrong. In fact, i actually owe it an apology, because of how fucking rude i was for no reason!!! Because this game deserves everything to be honest.
Persona 5 strikers is, frankly, insane. Insane in the sense that it got to pull shit off that just would never have existed in the original game, because the original game is scared. It had to be as impressive as possible and garner as much attention as possible. Strikers does not have that problem—every single person who bought that game does not need to be convinced that persona 5 is a good game. They already played it. That means Atlus can just fuck around and have a good time, and man did they have a good time. There’s still scenes that still shock me if i think about it too hard, because i’m used to atlus having to follow this sort of rule set when it comes to persona 5 (or any of the main games im assuming, but i havent played them.) And on top of that, there’s still shit that’s Atlus Trademarked Branded in a good way. The style of story of story telling, and revealing the mystery that is so integral to what p5 is, is still there.
So, to make this even a little bit comprehensible, i will make a list!
First of all, What is this game?
In short, this game is an OVA of an anime. It’s bonus side content that has one thing in mind: to showcase these lovable characters more by putting them in fun situations. That’s it, and it is just phenomenal. That was the main point of, i’d say, like forty hours of the game. It’s just fun times with fun characters.
But to get deeper of what i think is happening, or what they were thinking during the development, is that this is a second opportunity. Persona 5 (as we all know) had a lot of problems, and we were not quiet about those problems. We yelled it all out, made posts, made complaints on every social media platform ever. And Atlus heard all of them, and Strikers is a way to mitigate those mistakes. Aside from being a fun OVA, Strikers also works to be a deeper exploration of these characters—more specifically, the characters that did not receive much in the original game. Creating this sequel is having the ability to redo what they felt (or to be more specific, we felt) in the original game while adding new ones. I will get to that in a second.
The format of the game
Absolutely brilliant to throw them on a road trip. P5V already forced us to experience Shibuya for 200+ hours, and im so glad that they didn’t do that again. Going from town to town, making us experience these new places alongside our favorite characters is so good, and it just makes sense. It’s fun, it’s lighthearted, and it’s actually shockingly good. But one thing i do want to talk about early on is the way the story unfolds and the villains that they use, and what they do with it because it’s very interesting.
So as we explore japan and stuff, we encounter jails, and with those jails comes an antagonist. This antagonist works to be a parallel to one of our characters. That character will find it in their hearts to feel bad for the antagonist, because the antagonist could have been them had the original game not happen. At first I thought all of the thieves were gonna get an antagonist, and i was really hyped for the ryuji one. And then came to hour forty of the game where i realized “yeah that’s not gonna happen. There’s just not enough time.” And i was right, and the game ended. But i am not salty at all, honestly, because the people who got a direct antagonist were: Ann, Yusuke, and Haru. (we wont count zen and sophie).
Is there a trend??? Yes. these are all characters in the original game that have received the worst treatment by atlus. The three of them are basically cast aside the minute they finished their original arc, and its horrible! BUT that’s why this is the path that atlus chose for them—to give them more depth, and screentime, and a way to show their inner self. That isn’t to say that the ones who aren’t those three (makoto, futaba, mona, akira, ryuji) didn’t get anything. Futaba still has her thing at the end with ichinose, and she was very prevalent and animated during the rest of the game. Mona and Akira have to be a focal points, that’s just the nature of the game. The other two though, I will talk about in depth in a second.
Makoto
Y’all i poke fun at shumako fans sometimes cause its kind of easy and fun, but i honestly love makoto. In my very first playthrough of p5 (my first ever jrpg game, first persona game, i had no idea what i was doing), i had only maxed out two characters: ryuji and makoto. And i know she had a lot of screentime and love in the original game which is great, but i truly felt like she was dissed in this game. Her only roles were
A driver
Someone to tell them “we don’t have a choice. Let’s keep going and see where this takes us.” (seriously, if you replay this game, you will see how much she does this)
Idk, i just wish she had more to do, especially compared to how much love they gave the other characters.
But let’s talk about some of the new characters!
Zenkichi
Damn you atlus. Damn you and your insistence at bringing in cop characters. I was fully on board with hating zenkichi, i was fucking ready for it. I was convinced that there was nothing they could do convince to like zenkichi. I was immune to their copaganda.
And then i ended up loving him, which makes me sad a little bit. I didn’t realize how desperate i was to have an adult who has a persona. Someone who wants the world to change just as much as they do, while still having that aspect of them that makes them adult. Like??? As someone who is technically an adult, its a breath of fresh air. An adult. Who fights. For justice. Using a persona. And god i love akane so much, and her obsession with the thieves (that scene is probably in my top ten fave scenes of the game). Also what i loved about zenkichi is that he fucking hates the cops!! He hates the system of the cops!! And thats why i actually really started to love him!! Because i thought it was atlus saying that the systematic problem of the police cannot be solved by one person, and zenkichi threw away his badge. I actually cried at that part!!
But then he became a cop again, and i was just :/ but as a character, i really love him to bits and would love to do a study on him, or at least use him as an outside pov. But! i absolutely love his persona, since im a les miserables fan hehe
Sophia
she’s probably my favorite new aspect of the game. I was ready to not like her—again, i just suck like that, lmfao—and when i saw her, i was scared that she was just another waifu. I mean, she was very cute after all. But then as the game went on, i thought she was a little too cute. And even further into the game, i finally slapped myself in the face and realized oh my god shes not a waifu. Shes a sister.
That blew my mind, im ngl to you. A female character that isn’t supposed to be romanced? By jove, what a miracle!
And she…is an amazing character. Im sorry, i just love her so much. I love her so much that she  probably ranks as my fifth or sixth favorite character which is surprising even to me. Everything about her is delightful and invigorating. She’s funny??? Her comedic timing is amazing, and she has such chemistry with the rest of the team. She’s actually useful to the plot, and while her character design is a little too on the nose for me in terms of cuteness (i mean, good god she’s wearing oversized sweater to show how cute and tiny she is, and her hair has literal hearts in it), she is absolutely lovable.
But what i actually really wanna gush about for a second is sophia at the last stage of the game. You get the idea, i dont really like to get excited over things, so at this point i figured that there was nothing this game could do to shock me.
And then sophia had a persona awakening.
Like. holy fuck did i yell. I didnt realize what was happening until the music had already kicked in. and its just so fucking smart!!! Sophia??? The ai?? With no heart?? gOT A PERSONA???? AWAKENING??? BECAUSE SHE LEARNED WHAT THE HEART IS AND THE PASSION THAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO GET A PERSONA??? I started crying honestly, because it was just so smart. And looking back on it now, its obvious!! Of course it would lead to this, it only made sense that the culmination of her character arc leads to her getting a persona, nothing else would have been as good. Also, her voice actor is just amazing?? When she was talking to ichinose at the end, i actually got incredibly emotional because of the line reads. Its just so spot on and it really captures the essence of sophia.
Muah. five stars Atlus. You got me.
Ryuji <3!!!!
Oh man. Oh boy. Okay. so where do i start.
Yall know i love him. Hes probably my favorite fictional male character of all time, and he is the one i was the absolute most cynical about in this game. I was expecting literally nothing. Nothing. Like. nothing. I thought he was just gonna keep being used as a joke, or a gag, and he’s gonna be super horny all the time for the other girls and it was gonna make me mad and there was gonna be some insane homophobic/queerphobic jokes in every other scene and i know i was being unfair, but i cant help it.
And then i played the first two hours of the game, and i cried the entire time. Because ryuji has never been better than he is in this game. Its crazy.
The ryuji in persona 5 strikers is who ryuji should have been/how he should have been treated this entire time. From the actual funny jokes (for example, the gold bar joke + his reaction to it in the beginning of the game), defending his female friends instead of being the one people need to defend from (natsume arc), and the fact that he was the one to be there with morgana and akira in the very beginning of the game. Its such a small thing that they didnt even need to do, but it was such an integral part of the original game for me, that i just was convinced that nothing like this was going to happen. But then it happened. Its just small stuff like that that could have been overlooked but it wasn’t because this game? Persona 5 strikers? Fucking loves ryuji.
The actual respect they gave this boy is insane and i wasn't ready for it. Like, they gave the shujin trio lunch, they gave the little charm of the katana when they were in natsume’s jail, and, in my opinion this is the second-best thing that they could have given ryuji is sophia. Ryuji and sophia are the pinnacle of a brother & sister bonding relationship in the game that isn’t akira & futaba. And its really prevalent too?? Small stuff from the beginning of the game (pulling her out of a jail, calling her shorty), but then you have the iconic “shut the fuck up” scene, and that scene was so well characterized and written and voice acted, that somehow him saying “fuck” was the least exciting part of that scene to me. Ryuji is an older brother to her, like its undoubtable, and its only further cemented at the end of the game where Ryuji helps out ichinose because he knows how much sophia cares about her. This game. Love ryuji. And i love. This game.
You know what else i love? Akiryu.
Guys. i was fully prepared to starve in terms of akiryu. But theres just. So much of it. I wont get too deep into it, because i think this aspect of the game for me still needs marinate a little bit. Like, what was that last shot when EMMA died and Ryuji walked to approach Akira so they could relish in their victory together?? And the smile from both of them??? What the fuck. That was amazing. Also Joker being saved by Ryuji when he was about to fall from the cliff to save sophia??? WHAT. The LEADER AND HIS RIGHT HAND MAN? WHAT. anyway. If theres anything i want to keep for myself in my own brain, its the akiryu aspect of this game, so i wont talk too much about that part of things (instead, itll probably manifest in fic lmfaooo).
Sure, there’s tidbits of stuff i dont like that they gave ryuji: sexualizing ann in that one cut scene and making him touch the jails even though it hurts, and i recognize those and frown at them, but for the most part, i am blown away with how they treated him.
Basically, Ryuji has never been better. From the opening of the game with him being the first text message and the one to sling his arm around akira, to the very last cut scene where it was ryuji wordlessly leaving because he’s so confident that they would never be separated for long, this game adores Ryuji and i am so so happy to say that.
The Royal aspect of things
Yeah, i had to talk about this, but itll be a short thing i just wanted to point out. Because the last part of this game...is persona 5 royal. Which is curious. Like taking reality and giving that power to someone else so you dont have to experience suffering anymore? And even like, the final section just looked a lot like the top half of maruki’s palace?? And whats even crazier is that we had a boss fight with sophia, just like how we had a boss fight with sumire? Royal and Strikers have like, the same thesis statement. It’s kind of uncanny. It’s interesting, it’s like atlus came up with these two ideas, and then just decided they liked both of them so much that they just did it twice. I don’t mind though—actually, in terms of how the last Palace/Jails go, i probably like them both about equally.
Though i did love the final battle in this one more than i did in royal. Splitting into teams?? Thats cool as fuck, and really innovative and i didnt see it coming. It also kicked my ass. A lot.
Now for the last stretch: the small stuff!
The music — bomb as fuck. In my heart, Daredevil is ranked the same as Rivers. Axe to grind is also amazing, but Daredevil owns me
Akechi — i really debated whether or not to talk about him, but i figured a bullet point should be enough. Im really shocked that he wasnt in this at all. Like not even a name drop. If this is an OVA, and the point of the game is to please the fans, and akechi is arguably the fan favorite character, i was really ready for something. But there was nothing, except for the pancake hallway if that even counts as a reference. Thats it. Thats all i wanted to say about him.
The humour — FUCKING HILARIOUS im convinced that in my fifty hour playtime, five of that is dedicated to me laughing and unable to continue the game
Akira — so much personality! His lines of dialogue are crazy sometimes (like. Whats up with him saying Ryuji has ‘nice abs’ when they were in bath? Im crazy and even i dont know what the fuck that could mean)
Battle system — oh my god i almost forgot to talk about this. I love it! I kind of miss the turn based aspect just because i found it very comforting for some reason, but this hack and slash style of gameplay is so invigorating because i do feel like it justifies shit like the baton pass and huge attacks.  This battle system fully encompases how the Phantom Thieves are supposed to fight, you know what i mean?
Anyway, thats my thoughts on strikers. Loved it. Amazing. 9.3/10, wouldve been higher but Konoe’s Jail almost bored me to death. Also im a monster and i didnt do any requests that isn’t a fun one, teehee. As if i play persona 5 for the persona aspect of things.

summary: Your current job as a travelling housesitter has taken you to many places, some strange and many wonderful. When the acquisition of a new client takes you to Korea for three months, you wonder if your self-esteem can survive being around so many other-worldly looking people. Also, not to be paranoid or anything, but maybeperhaps you’re being stalked by the same seven strangers? They’re pretty loud and always surrounded by a tonne of people, so you write it off the first few times.
But this shit is getting excessive, chile. And annoying…
Rhetorical question, but what lies at the end of a rainbow? You hope that it’s a pot of gold, but with the way that your luck has soured, it might just be seven short(er than you), rowdy leprechauns ready to flip your world sideways…
Chapter 1
She was going on her first social outing in Korea (the source of the K-Dramas that she loved so much that she ended up learning the language), and ___ would make damn sure that she looked her best during it.
Rounding her top lip out by lining over her cupid’s bow then filling the lip in, ___ took her concealer and ensured that her lip-liner wasn’t a crooked mess. That task done, she swabbed a glob of lipgloss across her lips, rubbed them together, then applied her fake moles. The cool mist of setting spray wafted over her face.
___ smiled at herself in the mirror, happy with her appearance and checking to make sure that nothing was in her teeth. Her 18mm minks blinked back at her, lightly brushing the tops of her blushed cheeks. She hadn’t done The Most™ this time, as her revered 25mms were still preserved within their cases, but her face was still Beat For The Gods™.
Her ripped, highwaisted jeans pinched a bit at the fatty flesh that peeked between her belt and the edge of her cropped top, but she had long-since grown used to this sight. In fact, she had even come to love that part of herself. She was jiggly in places, and that was a-okay.
As she still had some time before she had to leave to catch her train, she decided to kill it by locating the window that let the most sunlight in and taking pictures there. It wasn’t golden hour, as it was one in the afternoon, but the lighting was just right, regardless. The contrast between the cool, sophisticated tones of her room and the browns in her clothing and skin made for some immaculate self portraits.
___ had long since learned to become her own photographer, as her height was a bit too tall for any modeling agencies to want to even consider her. Not to mention that her status as a black woman made opportunities just that much harder for her to procure. Yet, even with years of experience, self-modeling was still a bit awkward for her, and that translated in quite a few of the pictures that she had taken.
In the end, after she had ensured that the house keys and her wallet were in her purse and that Mickey had enough food and water to tide his cute little self over while she was gone, many of her pictures had been deleted in between her stepping foot out of the house and her ride to Times Square Mall.
She was so invested in her phone screen on the train that she didn’t even notice the many stares that she gathered. From her large, beautiful afro to the mile-long length of her shapely legs, many native Koreans took in the rich, alluring aura of the black woman for the first time in their lives. The fact that her face was set in it’s usual intimidating expression was the only thing that put them all off of bothering her.
She was going to this mall mainly to see the world’s largest cinema screen, but the arcades and plentiful high-class stores also appealed (respectively) to her childish and bougie sides. Even though ___ knew that she was gonna do a whole lotta window shopping (her expensive tastes and her income didn’t correlate), she was quite ready to blow a lot of cash during her entire 3 month stay here.
Stepping off of the train and into the subway, ___ had never felt as small and alone as she did then, surrounded by all of these people who didn’t look like her. Not for the first time since she’s started the whole ‘cross-country housesitter’ stint, ___ wished that she had a friend with her. Alas, she was currently chasing a bag, and since it comes with all of the free travel and awesome cultural immersion, something had to be compromised. In this case, ___ would just have to try to make friends while she was here, but she’s not really all that hopeful of that outcome, what with her slight social anxiety and all.
Speaking of which, it was currently flaring up as she squinted at the signs, trying to navigate herself through the crush and towards the upper mall. Somehow, she ended up outside and in front of the large, intimidating buildings made of glass. The mall was so big that it had to be split into Gates, like at the airport. Taking note of the gate number that she was entering and hoping that she’d be able to find her way back to the train station from there, ___ stumbled through the spinning doors and immediately went about locating a map.
The noise inside was deafening, as it tended to be in malls. While the majority of the people inside were Korean, foreigners lulled about as well. It made ___ feel a little less alien, though the way that she towered over most of them subtracted a bit from that. Subconsciously, she started sucking her stomach in, which let up a bit on the pressure from her jeans and shifted the gait of her walk into something less relaxed and more confident.
___’s first task was to find where the cinema was, as her movie was scheduled in an hour and a bit and she didn’t want to miss it by looking for it last minute. Luckily, the maps were in abundance and pretty easy to read. She decided to spend her time exploring the place by slowly making her way up the five floors. The first store that she went into had a strange, yet forgettable, name. It was a large department store with many women and children strolling along the walkways. Tables and shelves, almost overflowing with neat stacks of books, formed little islands. Between them, the polished, blank screens of electronic devices shone. The store didn’t really have anything that piqued her interest, so she ended up leaving pretty quickly.
This was the trend for the rest of her leisurely walk around two of the five floors that the mall had. On the third, something finally caught her attention— a small cafe tucked around the corner of the many cosmetic stores on the floor.
Walking in felt like stepping into a cozy, surreal painting. The scent of freshly grounded coffee beans wafted through the air and intertwined with the sweet aroma of baked pastries. Dark wood set in warm-toned cushioning curled around the shop, creating such a warm, homely atmosphere that ___ felt like she had stepped into an entirely different world. Already, several people were seated with cups of their own beverages and plates full of cakes and other desserts. Some were patiently waiting in line, face-masks pulled up and glasses perched on noses. A few people lounged in their respective areas with books in hand. Some were seated at the small dining tables, typing away on their laptops. Others chatted quietly with one another.
Somehow, the hustle and bustle of mall life grew hushed and muted in this small, quiet corner.
The soft crinkling of pages being turned accompanied ___ on her way to the line. Already, she could taste the sweet, milky flavor of her boba contrasting with the sharp coffee of tapioca pearls.
Across the room, dark eyes trailed her figure. Her wardrobe of choice and the rich tones of her skin made her fit seamlessly into the shop. As hard as he tried to pull his eyes away from the stone-faced beauty and back to his book, Namjoon found that he couldn’t. He didn’t know if it was the swing of her hips or the bounce of her voluminous hair that kept drawing his attention, but he knew that he had to kill whatever thoughts he was having, and quickly.
Simply put, Namjoon didn’t have the time to go fraternizing with a virtual stranger. He had seen many beautiful women in his time as an idol travelling the world, and he knew better than anyone how time consuming even a simple one night stand could be. Before he even approached someone, he had to think about how any leaked information could damage the group’s reputation. And then he had to think about preventative measures to make sure anything like that didn’t happen, and actually carry those measures out. Even though most of the legal stuff like NDA’s and other contracts were handled by the company, sasaengs were still everywhere. All it took was one picture of his naked, turned back, and they would be on him and his brothers like a particularly stealthy group of leeches.
Not to mention, Namjoon was not a man with many earthly desires— at least, not anymore. He preferred to spend his time out in nature or in museums, either with or without a book, in search of a higher understanding of himself and of consciousness. Time was very precious to idols as busy as BTS because very rarely did they ever get any outside of the judging lenses of cameras or people. How the other members wanted to spend their free time was up to them, but Namjoon would prefer to spend his either in silence, or with his brothers in silence.
And yet, his gaze continued to stray towards ___ as she moved forward in line. The music sweetly crooning from his airpods didn’t help the matter any farther, either. If anything, it set his own atmosphere to ‘romance’, rather than the initial ‘chill and relaxed’ he was going for.
Now at the front, she visibly towered over the cashier, long limbed and slightly awkward in the way that only tall people could be.
“H-how can I help you today, ma’am?” The dark-haired cashier stuttered, looking up at her warily and carefully avoiding her eyes. While she had served many foreigners in her years working at the mall, blank faced people were always a wild card. Sometimes they were extremely rude. Other times, they were perfectly polite. She could never tell with them, unfortunately, and, with the way ___’s face already punted her into the ‘scary’ category, her not inconsiderable height added to the cashier’s wariness as well.
However, all it took was one smile in greeting to crack her icy demeanor into thousands of tiny, little pieces. The sharp slant of her dark eyes, relaxed into narrowed slits that mirrored aloofness and displeasure, curved into merry arcs framed by lashes that brushed the flush of her cheeks. Her full lips, naturally slightly tilted down and shimmering with gloss, stretched upwards into a sweet smile. The plumpness in her cheeks swelled at their highest points beneath her eyes, transforming her face into something soft and honeyed, like dough.
Suddenly, ___ was too adorable to look away from.
“One bubble tea (originally flavored) and…” here, ___’s eyes swept across the cafe, briefly glancing over Namjoon (who’s table only had a single book, his airpods case, and his phone on it) in search of a snack to eat, “a slice of whatever that guy over there is eating, please.” ___’s voice, at a slightly lower register than usual as a result of disuse, gently filtered into Namjoon’s area. She had pointed in the direction of a nearby table with two young men calmly chatting with each other. Only one had an actual plate with food on it; the other had a single cookie loosely clutched in his hand. A wrapper divided the table between them. The cake in question was multilayered and looked as if each fluffy partition would dissolve satisfyingly on the tongue.
The cashier, with relief, went about her job of ringing ___ up and making sure that the order was received by the barista. ___ held the straps of her purse tightly to stop her hands from shaking too badly, feeling anxious being surrounded by strangers in such a private environment. She moved to where she could pick her order up and waited in the smaller line there, pulling out her phone and pretending to be busy so that people didn’t think that she was a total loser with no friends.
She felt the familiar prickling in her eyes that occurred whenever she felt embarrassed or overwhelmed, absentmindedly scrolling through her photo gallery and mentally trying to will the emotion away. It felt like everyone was watching her, which made her feel very exposed and self-conscious. She had to remind herself, over and over again as she briefly glanced around the vicinity, that everyone else was too caught up in their own lives to be paying her any attention.
Except for Kim Namjoon, who’s identity remained concealed behind his large, dark shades and fitted, dark mask. He considered just leaving the little sanctuary that he had carved out for himself here, as he kept getting distracted with ___ being directly within his line of sight. And, if he was being honest with himself, it was only a matter of time before a fan recognized him (disguise and all, with how often some of them watched him).
Still, Namjoon found himself glued to his seat, watching as ___ received the tray with her order and glanced around to find an unoccupied table. The only vacancies small enough to seat just one person without it looking weird were... in the area that he had secluded himself within.
She took slow, slightly hesitant steps in his direction, carefully keeping her back straight and her hands as steady as she could get them in case her purse slid down from her shoulder and jostled the tray.
Who the hell wears shades indoors? ___ asked herself as she passed Namjoon and settled into a seat behind him. Wait, that’s kinda insensitive. He could be bli— then, she peeped the edges of the whole ass book in his hands and stopped her train of thought. What are the chances that that book is in braille, though?
Not wanting to be offensive, even in her own thoughts, ___ stopped thinking entirely to reorganize herself at the table. She perched her purse in her lap and dug her phone out of it’s confines, rooting around for her airpods while she was at it. If she was gonna be alone in this large ass mall, she was at least gonna be alone in style and rhythm.
Her airpod case had a cute little sunflower pattern on it. She stuck both of her small, stickered airpods into her ears and started her music, pulling her camera app up and snapping a quick picture of her snack before taking her first bite.
Her eyes almost rolled back at the taste.
I just know that if this shop was any closer to the house, my fat ass would be in this bitch every day.
The cake slice was gone with a quickness. If she wasn’t saving her stomach until she got to the food court, ___ would have definitely gone to order another. She pushed the tray with the dishes into the empty space on the table and grabbed her boba. The mellow flavor worked wonders to relax her as she scrolled through her photo gallery, editing the pictures that she had approved of earlier on the train.
Her little bubble of contented solitude wavered when Namjoon shifted into a stretch, popping his tensed joints and rolling his ankles around. He was still trying to recover from her scent’s surprise attack on his nose. When she had walked past him, it was like a bomb of cocoa butter and coconut went off, blending almost sinfully with the rich aroma of coffee and the sweet undercurrent of baked bread.
This guy is giving me major creeper vibes, ___’s thoughts went back to the stranger again after his movement caught her eye. Even when her attention went back to fixing the lighting in one of her photos, some of her focus was still on him.
Of course, there wasn’t a day in Namjoon’s life when he didn’t do something embarrassing as a result of his own clumsiness. Overconfident in the integrity of his chair’s balance while he leaned back and stretched to his fullest extent, he was in for quite the shock when he tipped over with a mighty crash!
His book went soaring through the air behind him, sliding to a stop at ___’s foot.
___, who has just placed one of her airpods on the table as she dug through her purse to better listen out for the jingling of her small makeup bag, jumped in surprise, jostling the table and sending her airpod flying in Namjoon’s direction.
It hit him in the head and knocked his own airpod out of his ear, as well. One rolled to the floor and skittered away. The other got lost somewhere between his face and his clothes. His glasses slid down the bridge of his nose and stopped awkwardly at his top lip, stuck.
The quiet shop went even quieter. People’s heads began turning in their direction.
Namjoon froze, and slowly, his face began to fill with red. A man dressed nondescriptly in black stuck his head in from the cafe entrance, looking for the source of the sudden noise. He began making his way towards his charge once he got a proper grasp on the situation, pulling his walkie-talkie out and silently mummering into it: “All clear, here. Just Kim-ssi being clumsy. Have medics on stand-by, just in case he or anyone else is hurt.”
Before, ___ had only been able to see the broad expanse of his back and his biceps shifting as he flipped to a new page. Now, with half of his face exposed and his eyes staring straight up at her in mortified shock, ___… still couldn’t really say much about his features. He was upside down and still pretty concealed, after all. What patches of skin she could see were quickly turning deeper and deeper shades of vermillion. It was weirdly... cute.
“Um… are you okay, hun?” ___ asked with a pointed, concerned look. Her voice, still low and smooth like velvet, ran subtle waves across Namjoon’s ears. She placed her bag aside and slipped out of her seat, reaching down to grab the book at her feet and walking over to where he was lying prone on the ground.
By the time she had reached him to help him up, his bodyguard had as well. He attempted to block her from going any further as he pulled him up to his feet, but ___ was simply too tall for that to be effective. Namjoon felt himself beginning to curl inwards with all the eyes still on him, but easily suppressed the reflex with his years of 1) being a professional at concealing his emotions, and 2) embarrassing himself on camera.
“Haha, sorry guys. I’m a bit clumsy sometimes.” He bowed to the shop and rubbed the back of his neck apologetically.
“Kim-ssi, are you hurt anywhere?” The bodyguard asked. It took ___ a bit to remember that people were usually addressed by their last names in East Asia, as she had really questioned if the guy in front of her was really named ‘Kim.’
“No, really— that was a pretty loud fall.” She peeked out from above the manager’s head, still holding his book. The only thing on her mind was returning it and retrieving her airpod once he affirmed that he was a-okay.
“Oh— y-yeah, I’m okay. I-I’m used to stuff like this so I can’t really feel it anymore? Sorry about all the noise, haha.” He gave an awkward little laugh (—and probably an awkward little smile, but that remained unseen), shyly rubbing his neck again and making an aborted motion to cover his mouth with his hands before he remembered that it was already covered with a tiny strip of cloth. Inwardly, he cursed himself for stuttering. That was one of the largest tells of nervousness!
___ didn’t really pay his flustered fluttering any mind, however. She slipped around the man standing in front of her and held his book out towards him with a toothy grin. “I felt that. I stub this one toe of mine so often that I don’t even flinch anymore. Anyways, here’s your book.”
Her closer proximity suddenly made Namjoon realize that he had to look up to meet her eyes, and it made his increasingly rattled behavior even worse. To think that he had just begun to calm down, too...
“A-ah, thanks.” Even his fingertips were red as he reached out to accept his book back, but he could luckily just play that off as a slight stinging left over from his date with the floor. “I think something hit me in the head earlier, too, and it knocked my airpod straight out of my ear.”
___’s eyes widened as she subconsciously reached up to touch the ear that still had music lowly puttering into it. “I’m so sorry!” Here, she gave a quick, shallow bow. “I think that was actually my airpod! The sudden noise shocked me so badly that I accidentally knocked it off of my table!” Suddenly, it was her turn to look embarrassed.
Okay, I’m ready to leave. That’s enough embarrassing yourself for one day, girl! She thought to herself, already beginning to scour the floors for her missing appliance.
“This is slightly awkward to ask, but have you seen it since it hit you? It has a little sunflower sticker on—”
When she turned her attention back to him, she found his bodyguard already beginning to usher him in the direction of the exit, uncaring that the tiny little music device that she spent an arm and a leg on was still missing.
“Okay, that’s just fucking rude.” ___ muttered in English, dropping her formal tone and proper pronunciation as she righted the weird guy’s upturned chair and continued her search alone. Luckily, the small dab of white was easily distinguished against the dark, hard-wood flooring of the cafe. She’d have to clean it thoroughly when she got back to the house. For now, she’d have to settle with the unbalanced feeling of having just one in her ear. Slightly irritating, but doable.
Unbeknownst to her, Namjoon’s keen hearing caught her judgemental words and the ignominy almost crushed him. How many times had he embarrassed himself in front of the pretty girl, already??? Too many times to count.
He’d never live it down if the guys got wind of this, but there was no bigger gossip than a Bighit staff member. Sometime within the week, his business would be someone’s morning discussion. He reached up to adjust his dark gray beanie, pulling the edges over his ears to hide the reddening tips.
Tangled in the excess fabric of his high necked shirt, a single airpod with a sunflower sticker hid.

“70 years?” The shock you were feeling clearly shown across your face. “But then how is she here now?” You searched your brain, the depths of your memories to try to recall if there was anything you didn’t tell them. You’d spent so much time researching, you weren’t sure it was possible that you could have messed up on a detail as large as the resurfacing of this creature.
Dean watched you pace. He didn’t think you even recognized when you stood up to start walking. “It’s okay, (Y/L/N).”
You stopped walking, when did you start doing that, and stared at Dean. You had begun to associate his use of your last name with the intimate moments you’d shared. “I can’t explain this, how is that okay?”
“(Y/N/N), it is okay. You shared what you knew and we just have to do a little more digging.” Sam watched you, he’d seen the look in your eyes several times when you reached a stopping point in a case. “Maybe we should get some food.”
“You cannot make me calm down with food me with food Samuel Winchester.”
“Look, I know you. You’re hungry, hangry even. Let’s get some food and spend a little time just thinking about what could possibly explain the return. Any holidays, anniversaries, or similarities to another creature.”
You looked between the boys. “Fine, but we need to figure this out fast before she finds someone else to ensnare.”
------
After returning to the motel room you all secured a spot and opened up your laptops to do some research. You refused to give Sam the satisfaction that he had been right about food helping you, instead you continued to glare at your screen. It was like a scavenger hunt, picking through various clues to lead you to the reasoning she could possibly be awake 70 years earlier than she should.
You started by searching holidays that fell around that time that could have impacted this arrival. You’d hoped it would be as simple as All Hallow’s Eve but the timing didn’t make sense. You searched through the holidays but the only one that caught any attention was Litha, also known as the summer solstice. It was the longest day of the year but it was also the day that indicated the dark was taking back over. Considering the creature’s nature it wouldn’t be far off but there had to be something more. You switched to anniversaries.
You researched old cases that seemed similar. Disappearances of multiple girls, bodies never found, but a trail of men left in the wake of their disappearances. You spotted the trend of years between the appearances start to dwindle. What could have changed to cause this?
Dean spoke up, breaking your train of thought. “According to legend she is supposed to appear once a year, some Scottish folklore, but Sam found something saying she’s not supposed to appear for another 70 years.”
“The American folklore mentioned that she was far more efficient when she would come out so she didn’t need to come out as much.”
“Folklore is just that boys, we need to remember that just because it’s what someone believes, it doesn’t mean it’s completely factual. Once upon a time the cases that resembled her activity were sparse but over the last 500 years it seems they’ve gotten closer and closer.”
“How did you research that far back already?” Dean stared in amazement. He drained the last of his beer, a small drop trailing down his chin.
You watch the drop of beer and your brain thinks of how nice it would be to lick it off of him. Well, that is going to be distracting. “Been doing it for a long time and I already had some prior knowledge. Her pattern is becoming more predictable though. Perhaps her investments aren’t lasting as long or the blood isn’t as rich as it used to be. Hunters do like to drink.”
Dean shared a wry glance with his brother as he popped the cap off his next beer. “Cheers to that. So, anyways, how do we know when she’s going to disappear?”
“We don’t, the dates of disappearance are the only thing that were ever inconsistent throughout time. Which is why we need to act fast.” You knew it was coming, the food break could only stall the conversation of you being used to lure her out for so long. “I say we take two days to prep and plan, and then Friday evening is the night we go through with it.”
Dean reminded himself this was the right thing to do and bunched his hands into tight fists. “What do you believe is the best course of action?”
You’d chosen the bed as your place of study but wished you were closer to Dean in this moment. You shifted your laptop to the bed and moved to the edge of Sam’s bed, close enough to rest your hands on top of Dean’s white-knuckled fists. “We go on a date.”
“A date? How will that get her attention?”
“I’ll be all dressed up and so happy to be out with you but you’ll go on and break my heart. My appearance should attract her because she has a thing for shiny objects and a mean man who deserves to die would be the icing on the cake she needs.”
“Doesn’t sound like we have to wait until Friday.” Dean adjusted, his muscles loosening at the fact that he would be with you during this scheme.
“We should wait though. Friday night is date night for most people. We need to round out the image and appearances too. Plus we can’t stop our search, especially with the interaction I had today. She’ll know we’re onto her and if we were to just go for it the next day it would look suspicious. Waiting provides us time to make it look like we are struggling, giving up, weakening.”
Dean released the fists he held and gripped your hands with his. “Weak is one thing we are not.”
“We know that, she won’t, especially if we can pull the fight off.”
Sam, who’d been patiently biding his time finally spoke up. “You two should investigate together tomorrow. You haven’t quite appeared as a couple in public and it will seem odd if the two of you just go out Friday. I’m going to take a shower while you figure out what you think you can fight about.”
You waited until the water was running, unable to pull away from Dean. You’d agreed to start something, but now the thought of ending it, even faking ending it, seemed too real too soon. “Can we pull this off?”
“Oh, I think I can manage to get upset with you about something.” Dean chuckled when you snarled. “See, we’re already ready to argue.”
“What about Sam?” Dean just stared at you, waiting for further explanation. “We could fight about Sam. I’ve been hunting and investigating with him over you so it wouldn’t be far fetched to think that there was something going on there.”
Dean flinched. “I don’t want that imagery, again.” Dean pulled you onto his lap, linking his fingers behind your back. “Does this mean we have to go shopping?”
“Well, I didn’t exactly pack going out clothes for a hunting trip.”
Dean resigned himself to the idea of spending hours looking for clothes with you, but reminded himself it was just more time he got to spend with you, something he was enjoying probably far too much. “We’re doing it together. I think it’ll help with the appearance, plus I want as much time with you before this all goes down.” Dean planted a kiss to your neck.
“It hasn’t even been three weeks that I’ve known you, the real you, but it feels like so much longer.” You hooked one arm around Dean’s neck, leaning back so you could look into his eyes. This next part wasn’t going to make him happy. “Promise me one thing, if this turns south and she lures me in, you won’t let her keep me. Trap me up until you can figure out a way to get me back or end it.” You felt yourself hit the bed before you had time to process what was happening.
“End it?” Dean was stomping the length of the room, thrusting his fingers through his hair. “We just talked about how we aren’t weak. There is no way anything is going to happen to you.” Dean stopped and looked at you. “I’m going to walk around outside for a bit, I need some space to think over the fact you want me to just end it.”
You flinched as the door slammed behind Dean. Maybe it was callous to say end it but if it was necessary so be it. To hell with him. Who did he think he was getting upset when he said he would go with the plan. To. Hell. With. Him.
You stood, prepared to just change and go to bed, but found yourself seeking out the man who continued to push your buttons.
“This is my choice!” You yelled to his shadow. “I can ask Sam to do it if you don’t think you can but I refuse to live a life with this creature where I’m luring and killing men for sport. You’re either with me or you’re not.” Satisfied you got that off your chest you turned to reenter the motel room but found yourself scooped into Dean’s arms. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Don’t you dare ask Sam.” Dean carried you to the hood of Baby and set you down, standing between your legs. “Of course I would do it but did you think the concept would be easy for me to think about? What if I told you to end it for me if she managed to get her claws in me and I was fighting to hold on? How would you respond?”
You bristled, the thought quite unpleasant. “I get it, and I’m sorry, but it is part of the job, the life.” You leaned forward and linked your hands behind his neck, drawing him closer. “This should get her attention.”
“I’m not doing this for her attention,” Dean mumbled, dropping a featherlight kiss to your lips. “I like you, and I don’t like people lightly. Giving me time to wrap my head around losing you before we go through with this plan is probably for the best and it will probably help my anger during our faux argument.”
“It’s not going to be easy for me either. I may have been indifferent to you at first but I like you too.”
“Indifferent?” Dean chuckled. “You couldn’t have cared less about me at the start if you tried.”
“You’re wrong,” You said, recalling the day you jumped on his back. “I would say I found you annoyingly attractive but we just started off on the wrong foot.”
“Does that mean we are on the right foot?”
You answered by sealing your lips to his. You crossed your ankles behind his legs, pulling yourself as tight against him as you could. You didn’t even recognize your own behavior anymore, but you were about to put your life on the line in a way that you never had before. Not just yourself though, someone who had quickly become an important piece in your life. It should have shook you how much you cared about Dean but instead you felt comfort in his arms.
“You’ve really gotta stop thinking while I’m kissing you,” Dean interrupted your train of thoughts.
Sighing you moved your hands to cup his face. “I was just thinking about how comfortable I am in your arms.”
“Oh,” Dean said, squeezing you tighter. “Well, in that case, could you think out loud?”
“Let’s go back in before we draw too much attention to ourselves.”
Dean scooped you off the hood of the car. “Don’t wanna scratch the hood.”
You rolled your eyes. “Okay, you didn’t scratch the hood, now put me down.”
Dean continued to carry you, dropping you on the bed, ignoring the look Sam was giving him. He turned to his duffle bag, deciding he needed to take a very long shower. He lifted the duffle bag onto his shoulder and winked at you before walking into the bathroom. He wanted you to join him but this case needed to be over before he could think about going any further with you.
He stripped out of his clothes and turned the water on, not as hot as he normally would but he needed to cool down, which would normally work if you hadn’t knocked on the door. “What?”
“I need to change.”
“Couldn’t you just ask Sammy to step outside?”
“Oh, don’t be a baby.”
Dean pictured you changing, easily done since you’d showered together just that morning. How had it only been since that morning when it felt like it had been days if not weeks since that had occurred. “(Y/L/N), you’re killing me.”
“When you first started using my last name I hated it but now I find it endearing, kind of a turn on.” You heard Dean groan, bringing a smile to your lips.
“Could you just change and go so I can get on with my shower.”
You slipped your night shirt over your head. “Right, I’m sure that’s all you need to get on with.” When Dean’s head whipped around the shower curtain to glare at you the laughter bubbled from deep within before you could stop it. “I’m going.” You walked out still laughing, catching a curious eye from a lounging Sam. “Just teasing your brother.”
You curled onto your side under the blanket, keeping room for Dean since you knew that was where he was going to sleep. You thought about how you woke up with him and the events that had transpired to his black eye, followed by the entire day you had. You were overwhelmed and the exhaustion soon took you under.
Dean attempted to get under the covers without waking you. Sam was out and the only light was from the moon shining through the curtains. He sucked in a deep breath when you rolled against him, nervous.
“What time is it?” You mumbled.
“Just close your eyes and go back to sleep.” Dean wrapped an arm around you, pulling you close so your head rested on his chest. As soon as Dean could feel your chest rising and falling at a slower rate he relaxed and felt himself begin to fall asleep. He knew the next two days were going to be long as the preparations to face the creature who inadvertently brought you together unfolded so he took the time to enjoy the feel of you in his arms. Running his fingers and up and down your arm he let the pattern lull himself to sleep.

i lost the post i had that gave all of caragan’s info, so i’ll just post it again here. first pic is caragan after they die, because only obey me could drive me to design a character post-death
i did design the sigils myself. then i added the sin marks from the cards, put that little pact symbol on it, and i took the original symbols from the actual demons and simplified/altered them. because i didn’t think it was a good idea to use the actual symbols. don’t wanna manifest something ya know lmao
very long info dump under the cut. (info dump is copied from the post i lost) and yeah, caragan is a generic super powerful protagonist. so prepare for cheese
likes: drawing, reading, gaming, and staying at home. they are drawn to dark things; horror, dark colours, literally most things dark.
home/family: they live alone, but near their parents, and they visit almost daily. they have a cat and three snakes (while caragan is away, the fur and scale babies are taken care of, don’t worry)
age: 27 yrs old, born Jan 7th
gender: nonbinary, they/them
height: 4′10 / 147 cm
occupation: part time job, they also make bits and bobs to sell; art, crochet, etc. they went back to college too (and how they signed up for a certain exchange program; in my headcanon, they signed up for it and expected something mundane) then, after their first visit to the devildom, they start learning about the peace that diavolo proposed in their own time, and volunteer for the human organizations involved
the design after they die: neither angel or demon, appearance shows physical attributes of both. (i also have a lot of post-death info, but… this is already so much, so i will leave it out) the ref i made is below: (worth noting that before their “fall,” using the term very, very loosely, everything on them that is red was white)
appearence:
they wear all black with small, brightly coloured accessories
brightly coloured accessories are normally bracelets, scarves, or pins. socks are also always nauseatingly bright
casual outside attire: black hoodie, black t shirts, black ripped jeans, and converse
casual around the house attire: grey sweatpants, obnoxious socks, a tank top, and sometimes a sweater or jacket they’ve stolen from the brothers
formal attire: usually a suit, but asmo can convince them to wear a dress by finding amazing ones and wearing a dress too
school uniform: jacket sleeves rolled up, or while in classrooms, off completely. no tie, ever. dress pants, wears black flats instead of dress shoes. during their first year, they kept their hair in a ponytail in class
always wearing their favourite necklace
first year piercings:
left ear - bar piercing in top, three normal piercings on bottom
right ear - three normal piercings on bottom
second visit piercings:
left ear - same
right ear - three normal piercings on bottom, and two new normal piercings on top
they wear binders to their classes and almost always when they go out for less active shenanigans
rarely wears a binder in the house of lamentation; the first thing they take off when they get home
hair is greying on both sides of their head, also some greys on top
always, always has dark circles and bags under their eyes
brothers + romance: they are absolutely smitten with all of them, and they are very blunt and obvious about it. their favourite, though, is beel. this is kept as plainly obvious as their feelings for the others. since they love all of the brothers, they don’t hide their attraction to anyone. for the most part, it works out.
pact mark locations:  (see first ref pic)
lucifer - throat
mammon - upper back
leviathan - lower back
satan - left inner thigh
asmo - right inner thigh
beel - right inner wrist
belphie - left inner wrist
overall, they’re very shy and awkward, and they like to joke around to cover it up. generally quiet, even around those they’re comfortable with. (they don’t talk a lot unless they’re having a ‘moment’ - a day where they’re hyperactive) they have crippling anxiety and depression, but the medication they take eases it. gets irritable around loud noises/people. they make an attempt in having a decent sleep schedule, but most nights they’re awake for hours longer than they intend to be. sleep schedule is more erratic when in the devildom. (probably belphie’s fault.)
everything below is uh… like, how they act/react to the other characters.
lucifer:  they mirror what lucifer offers them; if he’s being soft, they will be soft in turn. if he is upset with them, they will apologize and attempt to do better, and they expect the same if the roles are reversed. stuff like that. they don’t openly flirt with lucifer the same way they do some others, instead they focus on gentle interactions. they kept close to lucifer when they first arrived in the devildom (when mammon ditched them) because they deemed him more trustworthy than anyone else.
mammon:  when with mammon, every filter caragan has is demolished instantly. given mammon never tried to kill or charm them, they grew to respect him very quickly. they also don’t treat mammon like an idiot; they’ve dealt with that themselves enough. yes, they tell him off for doing things that will very clearly come back to bite him in the ass, but they never target his intelligence because they know he’s smarter than he lets on. they openly flirt with mammon because they like to make him blush. they both get into trouble often, but they have each others’ backs throughout.
leviathan:  they don’t spend as much time with leviathan, but they do enjoy his company. they usually lock away their info dumping and interests, but not with leviathan. he gets to gush about the things he loves, and they match his energy. he tries to offer the same courtesy. they also like to flirt with leviathan to make him blush, but they don’t do it as heavily or as often because his rejections/self deprecating comments make them feel bad. they are also thankful that they can talk to him about their anxiety and he understands it. they rarely call him “levi.”
satan:  they also don’t spend as much time with satan, but less so than leviathan. they can’t help but feel stupid when they’re with him, so they don’t socialize with him often. buuut any time he offers to socialize, they don’t turn him down. in fact, caragan gets excited. he’s also where they turn to when they’re struggling with their studies or curious about something demon related. they do attempt to joke around and flirt with him, but it’s like a game of chicken, and caragan always ducks out. fairly quickly, too.
asmodeus:  caragan adores asmo, but they can’t really place why. they also consider him as much a work of art as he does himself. they are very soft with asmo and they rarely flirt with him in a conventional way. even though they reject most sexual advances, they are as handsy as asmo is. asmo is their official cuddle buddy and they love to shower him in gentle affection. if asmo is in sight, they can often be caught staring. at first, they’re very embarrassed by this, and the brothers poke fun. eventually, though, they’re utterly shameless and just widen their smile if asmo catches them.
beelzebub:  they love beel more than life itself, and that is absolutely not an exaggeration. at first, they were very avoidant and anxious when it came to beel, but when they started to hang out with him, they found him very easy to be around. the attraction started then, but then became way too strong when beel went into full demon mode over his custard. (mood) they started following him around everywhere. they continued that trend well into the year and the following visit. they’re very affectionate and clingy, sitting his lap and hugging him constantly. they carry around as many snacks as their pockets can hold for beel and beel only.
belphegor:  they knew from the start that belphie was lying to them in the attic and probably meant them harm, but they never held it against him. they never really held their death against him either. they’re quiet around belphie for the most part, even when they started to like him. they often nap with him (against their better judgement) too. the two of them talk a lot about their ideal “me and you and beel” future. more than is healthy. their conversations outside of that are often filled with snark and a weird tension that caragan doesn’t understand. it usually melts away after a cuddle and a nap, though.
diavolo:  they instantly liked diavolo. they’re very cautious and anxious around him, but they try to be warm in their interactions with him. they do call him “lord diavolo,” and treat him with due respect. he usually throws them for a loop with most things he does, but they try to keep up and be understanding. they have a strong need to get closer to him, for reasons that they don’t understand or even try to understand. they don’t do much about it either. his demon form causes them to become flustered. very flustered. the not-oblivious brothers tease them for it. they have such a huge crush on him.
barbatos:  they don’t interact with him that much, or try to interact with him outside of things that are necessary. they have nothing against him, they just don’t feel the need to. they’re very polite to him, as polite as they are to diavolo. while they’re curious about him, they don’t go out of their way to interact with him. there’s really not much there besides mild curiosity.
solomon:  they think he gives off a copious amount of mischievous vibes and it puts them off. at first. they are kind and polite towards him, and they would consider him a friend. the friendship is essentially that “we have no friends in this class so we will become friends to fill the void. but only in this class. we will never speak to each other outside of this place.” it’s not nearly as specific, but that’s the flavour of friendship they have in the beginning. eventually, he grows on caragan and they end up looking forward to seeing him. they just find him very fun.
simeon:  they think simeon is beautiful and has been caught staring almost as much as when they stare at asmo. with simeon though, they will never be shameless about their staring. they continue to be embarrassed about it forever. forever. they’re polite and kind to simeon, but they feel he keeps himself closed off from them. during their second visit to the devildom, with the play and all, they become a little scared of simeon. it doesn’t change the way they interact with him, but it does put them off for a bit. and after some overthinking, they end up being more drawn to him.
luke:  they were very anxious around luke, at first. they don’t like kids, and generally become twice as awkward around them. eventually, they found him adorable. when they speak to him, they will focus on child logic, but they do speak to him the way they would speak to anyone. never patronising. happily helps him with studies if they can, gives him affirmation and reassurances whenever needed, and is protective. they have even been known to stand up to lesser demons when they target luke. (when simeon isn’t around; it’s rare) even though caragan is scared shitless the whole time, they try anyway. seeing as they’re only 4′10, they never make short jokes or anything of the like. when the brothers make short jokes, they shoot disapproving looks and will express disappointment if it drags on too long.
the end of their life time:  they go on to live for a while, dedicating themselves entirely to diavolo on the human side of things, even becoming a public speaker for it. sharing their experiences n all that. which is something they’d never do for anything else.
at a certain point though, about 50 yrs old or so, they do stop visiting the demon brothers because they’re getting old. they die shortly after in an accident. brothers don’t find out because caragan was already avoiding them. (though, there is general unease because of the bonds they have with caragan. they know something’s very, very wrong but not what. they fear the worst, and they’re right to.)
but for all the things they did for “the cause,” they were to be judged in the celestial realm. (and… i see it as… in a horrible, horrible way, the big guy upstairs knew everything that would happen with lilith, and deemed her and her brothers an acceptable loss in exchange for peace. it was all orchestrated. i also think that diavolo knew the plan, for the most part. he has his own reasons for wanting the peace, but he does know what the plan was.)
but they’re escorted to The Big Guy by simeon and luke (a cute reunion with hugs) and he straight up asks caragan what they want. like they can stay here, go to the devildom, or remain in the human realm.
in any case, they’ll be given all the attributes needed to thrive in all three realms, but only if they continue in their trying to maintain peace. obviously, caragan is all for continuing. and of course, they choose to make their home with the brothers. god’s all like, “you will retain your angelic status, but you do have to fall to achieve the status of demon. are you sure?” they have to have demon attributes to ensure survival and comfort living among demons, so that’s why.
and caragan straight up says, without missing a beat, “even heaven is hell without them.” everybody knows who they’re talking about. simeon is torn between “that’s so rude” and “that’s so sweet” and luke is horrified. god just laughs.
they all talk a bit longer so caragan knows exactly what they’re getting into. they will have a lot of power as both angel and demon, but they have to keep their humanity in exchange for that power. which means, inevitably, their long life will become a curse. no human is built to live for a millennia, so it’ll take a toll on their mind and at the end of it all, they won’t be themselves anymore.
caragan basically says, “yah, worth it. lezgo.” god hands them paperwork, some explaining what caragan is and why, as well as a peace treaty thing to give to diavolo when they get home. i was thinking it’d be something cheesy like “the treaty of the last fallen angel.” no more fallen angels after caragan, they fell so no one else has to again. idk, symbolism or something. but even the future angel/demon hybrids won’t have to fall.
cue caragan yeeting themselves from the celestial realm.
diavolo knows caragan’s about to fall (barbatos n all that) and gathers the brothers to the place it’ll be. caragan is just a ball of blue flames, then a crater, the brothers are baffled.
falling hurts a shit ton (even without losing wings and all that), so caragan ends up crying, but they cry blood. (for angel reasons. i dunno why i think angels cry blood.) which drips from their face and onto the white fabric of the thing they’re wearing, and then everything white fades into a red, even the white of their eyes. (i want to try very roughly animating that one day.)
then there’s another heart warming reunion, but also with a shit ton of heart break because not only did caragan die, they also just fell. the brothers are angy.
before the brothers can get all “let’s fight god,” caragan hands diavolo the paperwork, all of which he reads out loud for the brothers.
uh. roll credits.
just tidbits:
caragan is an angel of perseverance and a demon of despair.
they have six wings and six eyes on each wing.
their halo was a tangible ring of golden light, but when they fell, it became horns. but like… still in a ring shape. still a halo. just different.
they are barefoot in their angel/demon form because they have talons and also just… hate shoes.
when all the white turned red, all the gold turned silver.
they look as they did during their second visit to the devildom when they enter their “afterlife.”
their human form is also just… them. hoodie, ripped jeans, everything, they’re just themselves.

Lie to Me (Jaemin x you)
Angst.. I am still learning to write angst that can really make you cry, but I can’t
Warning : cheating is not a good thing.
Enjoy!
When people say first love won't last long, you often question them. Why? Because apparently you see some people sticking to the end with their first love, and up to this day you believe your love story will end the same way or maybe even better. That was what you have in your mind living with two children under a comfortable roof with your first and last love, Na Jaemin. Today however, you start to question if there will be a happily ever after for you and Jaemin or at least for you. With what Jaemin have, there's no way he cannot get his happiness. Look at the amazing group of friends he worked with, look at the swooning number of fans! All of those fans out there are willing to die and kill for him. His income is flowing in regularly, he doesn't need to worry about heart breaks, it's either he broke heart, or he got broken and find another one. There are many fish in the sea and apparently this will work for Na Jaemin. It's been two years of hiding from public media and fans. Two years of holding on to the pain of not being able to tell anyone that you are dating the idol Na Jaemin. Eight seasons of sneaking Jaemin into your room or sneaking into the dorm. The members knew about you, but they are a good brother and they keep their mouth shut. Everything was worth the hustle the pain and the love, not until you got home from your tiring nine to five work and got greeted by a trending news. You take the bus ride home, wishing that Jaemin is now here beside you, holding your hand through the orange candied sky. You cannot lie that autumn looks good at some point and you actually want to be able to walk home with Jaemin while sipping on hot pumpkin spice latte. On your seat by the window, you open your phone and curiously click on the website that appears on the first Tweet you see. Right at that moment your eyes shake and your lips tremble. The loud voice of the busy road and bus engine were gone replaced by a long deafening silence. Your finger froze midway to the news and you lock your phone. There in the media, was a picture of Jaemin and a secret girl, along with screen shots of their chats and selfies. Luckily there was no bad news coming with it, the girl did not accuse Jaemin for anything bad, but the media was clearly stating "Na Jaemin, fan service king turns out to be dating a fan for three months."
Three months?! That's also how long Jaemin has been dumbly smiling to his phone at night, the time he woke up earlier than you did which confused you before, but now made sense. You try to remember all the odds he did in the past three months, you knew that style of chatting was Jaemin's and that is enough to convince you that your boyfriend might be cheating on you for three months without you realizing it. Stupid? Kind of. You got home after the long ride and with big stride you take the lift to your apartment, wishing with all your heart you have something to eat since you don't feel like going out. Right when you enter the house, the least expected man you want to see right now is already lounged over your sofa. There sprawled on your couch, is Na Jaemin in his sweet innocent sleeping face. You want to choke and strangle him with the pillow right now, but how can you when you see that fragile kid face. For a second you feel like you're the most evil person in the world, trusting rumors rather than asking your boyfriend about the truth. Looking at his sleeping baby face, you can't imagine Na Jaemin actually cheating behind you, but that's the point right? If he knew you won't slightly think or believe he is cheating, one might as well use the benefit right? Your mind is playing with "what ifs" and finally you choose to wake up the problematic person in your life right now. Jaemin squirms when you toss him a pillow to wake him up. "Hey my baby is home." He yawns and gives you that sweet smile while still having his eyes closed. He stretches and you cannot decipher if he is acting cute so you won't be mad as he explains the rumor or does this child did not know the news has spread. Your face was sour and he quickly catches on that you're not in a good mood and it's his goal to always bring back smile on your face. "What's with that evil with face?" You sigh, and sit down beside him. You hold his shoulder to face you and stare into his eyes deeply. "Please look at me," you whisper hopelessly Jaemin still has his confused face on. "Tell me what is going on Nana." Jaemin glances down to your phone, he clearly knows what you are talking about. Hell he already received a lecture from Taeil, Johnny, and Taeyong not to mention Jeno and Haechan. "You know I'm not like that right?" Jaemin swallows a lump on his throat, gosh the audacity he has to lie on your face. Your pupil trembles as they search the truth Jaemin nicely hide behind hid Idol eyes. You shake your head, "How can I trust you when I cannot read through you." "She's just a friend," Jaemin squeaks. "Is she really just a friend?" your voice cracks, Jaemin saw the news he saw the chat and oh it doesn't wonder if you think that snippet of chat is more than friendly. Jaemin cannot answer your question, he wants to fight back but he messed up. He cannot lie anymore to you, or can he? "I am sorry, I was not in my right mind." he reaches out to hold your hands, but you quickly hide them. "What do you mean by that?" your chest is raising up and down faster. Jaemin closed his eyes, "Some of them are true." Your heart shatters and you cannot think of anything else. Did he just shamelessly confess that he indeed was cheating? "You're lying!" you try to deny the fact, but Jaemin shakes his head. "I am not lying. I am sorry you had to discover it." Your eyes shot open, did he not expect you to know at all?! How belittling was that. He shifts closer to you, and you flinch "Stop Jaemin, give me some spa-" "Don't give me space, that's the least thing I want with you." His puppy eyes made a big impact here. "I know I shouldn't be here," you let out a huff Jaemin gets flustered, "What do you mean by that, I can explain we broke up already. I told her I was with you." "You deserve more," you whisper and tears finally fall down your face. "I'm scared." you stare in horror to Jaemin, this sweet angel has been lying on your face for god knows how long. Were you some kind of toy for him?! "I'm sorry. I swear I'll do things different this time, believe me..." He pleads to you. "I want to believe you, I do, but you're just going to hurt me again Jaemin," You shake your head when he pleads you with his eternal sweet angelic face. "Do you ever mean anything you say?" you ask him. Flashes of videos you see on the internet haunts you, Jaemin can easily say "I love you" to his fans and be called a fan service, but have you ever think if the one he gave to you were not a part of fan service too? Did he really mean it when he whispers "love" to your ears. Jaemin stays quiet, "I mean it," he whispers after a while. "You won't understand. Was I just another fan service thing to you? Did you see me also as one of those girls who will swoon over you when you do that?" you're hurt by the fact that this sentence was true. Look at you, not even realizing if he is cheating on you because you are blinded by his sweet nothings. "Can I hug you?" he asks slowly when you just stay quiet and out of your mind. You shake your head, "I need to go. See you Jaemin." You grab your bag and coat and rush to leave him. You need to clear your mind first, maybe a talk with the other members may help you keep your mind straight. The young boy crashes to the sofa, his eyes can no longer hold back his tears. In silence he sobs by himself, he knows he did something so wrong and it's his own fault this happens. "Am I too late?" Was all he asked when he think of the times he kept all of this a secret, it started as a harmless joke with a fan he find interesting in the fansign. Then the joke turns into small talks, to midnight calls, and to secret meetings. Jaemin did not mention he is dating you; it'll blow up your two years of hiding with him. But then one night he went over the border, teasing the fans and their chat was no longer on the side of friendship. It goes beyond and when Jaemin explains he needs to stop this thing, the girl blew up all of the secrets. Making distorted rumors here and there, You apparently was one of the victims of the media and Jaemin hates himself more with the fact that you did not even give him a chance to explain. Two hours later he got a voice message from Jeno. "Jaemin, she's here with us. (y/n) is alright, just meet her when you are ready and she is too. I think tomorrow she can see you." That was all Jeno left to him and that night Jaemin spends the night on your bed, realizing it was cold and lonely without you.

I’m Still Here
Many of you may have been asking yourself where did Silver go? Is anyone still working on QONQR?  I admit I’ve been very quiet the past year and from the outside, it looks like not much is going on.
Before I give my QONQR update I want to share a major accomplishment for me. I’m a little less of a hoarder than I was a month ago. As the 11th year anniversary approached, I decided I had too much old QONQR merchandise I needed to get in the hands of my players. However, I hate shipping. I should be the spokesperson for one of those shipping providers that make shipping easy because I hate doing it so much. Many of you know that the player Rayndel has an Etsy store where she sells QONQR merchandise with my permission. I sent her a 65lb (30kg) box of QONQR stuff. Coffee cups, T-shirts, dog tags and stickers. She is liquidating all of it for me. You can find it all right here.

2020 and 2021 have been challenging for most people, and I’m no exception.  Both our kids are off to college. We are getting older and so are our extended families. Medical issues become more frequent for us and them. The stress of the pandemic doesn’t help. There are days when I can sit at my computer all day, and never write a line of code. Things are hard, they impact our ability to work as hard as we once did.
A little over two weeks ago, QONQR hit its 11th birthday. The milestone passed quietly. I always spend time reflecting on how QONQR has changed my life and the stories you’ve shared about how it has changed yours. We’ve built something great together. Together we keep it going.
Despite outward appearances. Things are happening at QONQR. I am working, albeit at an admittedly slow pace. I’ve let go of the stress of pushing QONQR as fast as I can, and instead I’m working on QONQR at a pace that is comfortable. It is important to me and my family that I end my day without being drained of all my energy by the awful decisions and quality that Apple and Google hand me every day.
The next release of QONQR will include the following features. Many of these are mostly done, so I’m happy to share them, with the caveat that I have no idea when these will actually hit the store. Tons of testing is still needed.
 New Sync Lock Rules
Sync lock will now last much longer, perhaps a week or even a month before it automatically expires. Along with that Sync Lock Protection will also last longer. The more times you gain sync lock protection, the longer it will last. We want to protect legitimate family members from daily locks, but also want to avoid situations where multi-scoper can get infrequent help to unlock an army of devices and accounts. In addition to longer locks, Sync lock may also hurt resource collection with your bases depending on how play testing goes.
As with everything pertaining to multi-scoping, it is a blurry line between stopping those who play unfair, and those that are punished for inviting family and friends to play.
 Notifications
I have wanted push notifications for most of the past 10 years. In fact, we were very close to having them implemented about 5-7 years ago, but Google changed their push notification system. We used a unified messaging system created by Microsoft to push to both Google and Apple simultaneously. There were incompatibilities between the new and the old Google system for a long time. We gave up on trying to finish that implementation back then, waiting for Google and Microsoft to get their stuff fixed, and it was years before it became a priority again.
I spent most of the past 3-4 months working on notification. This area is quite possibly one of the worst technical implementations I’ve had to work with in all my time working in software. For example, if you kill an iPhone application, you also remove the ability to get push notifications until the next time you start the app. It appears to be almost random when Android will decide to beep your phone when receiving a notification, and when it will be silently added to the notification center. For both Apple and Google, the documentation is frustratingly inaccurate or out of date. There are multiple different ways a notification can be processed depending on whether the application was terminated by the user, suspended by the operating system, in the background or in the foreground. Was the notification scheduled locally or sent from a remote server?  Honestly, as a developer, it would be difficult to purposely design a worse system.
The good news is that I believe I have it working as good as it can possibly work. In the next release you will be able to enable or disable notifications as a whole, or selectively choose which notification you want to receive. Notifications will include: Atlantis, New Wire messages, Mentions in Chat and Forums, Bots and Bases Full.
A Major Overhaul to the Scope
The changes to Sync Lock mandated that overheat have additional logic to control bots and energy regeneration. More significantly, if we want to have a notification that your scope is full, so I needed to know exactly when the scope would be full.  Currently your regeneration rate is based on the number of launches in the past hour. Launching a few seconds before or after an old launch rolls off that 1 hour mark can mess up the prediction of when you will be full again. To make that prediction accurately, without checking every minute to see, “Are my bots full now”, we changed the formula for when bots will be full, and scheduled a notification based on that time.
The new regeneration is very similar to the old, but we predict you may get 1 or 2 more launches per hour. I’m hedging the formula towards more not fewer launches to make sure this is seen as a positive change.
As long as we are messing with the scope, let’s talk about the Bot Regen Accelerator.  Hard core players have pointed out that players who launch on a timer, always hitting the “optimal” launch interval, don’t gain any advantage when purchasing this $0.99 upgrade. In the new release this upgrade will reduce your overheat level by 1 level and you will never be in maximum overheat due to deploying bots. The impact of the upgrade will be noticeable by everyone with this change. The name of this upgrade will probably change to “Scope Coolant” or “Heat Diffuser”. Send me your name ideas.
  Subscriptions, Ads and Elite Players
This is a change that probably won’t be in the next release, but it is something I’m thinking about before the end of the year. Apple has had a bug in their subscription logic for years. If you purchase a subscription on an iPhone, then get a new iPhone, you need to cancel the subscription in the App Store, then renew from your new phone. Apple keeps charging you, but the new device can’t see the subscription, so QONQR doesn’t know you are a subscriber. Why wouldn’t Apple fix this? Well Apple only takes half the percentage of a subscription after the first year. By making you start a new subscription, they can double their cut of the money you pay QONQR for the subscription. Another problem with subscriptions is that they result in many support requests because they honestly aren’t 100% reliable in either Apple or Google’s implementation.
Many people know that earlier in the year, Apple introduced a change to advertising that blocks tracking. This is great in theory, and I get it as a consumer that I don’t like to be tracked, but this tracker blocking also blocks my ability to make any revenue on advertising. Why would I continue to give away free advertising?
Elite players are those that have spent over $100 in QONQR over the life of their gaming experience. Over the years the benefits of being “Elite” have dwindled. Features have changed, and incentives have ended. I’d like to invest more time and energy to build features for players that continue to support QONQR but I think it makes more sense to lower the bar and make the benefits for “active” spenders.
With these three things in mind, there is a chance that QONQR will move to a monthly “pass” option rather than a subscription. There seems to be a trend with games, where players buy a monthly pass that offers benefits, rather than using subscriptions. Subscriptions are buggy and in the case of Apple, a shady business practice.
The same benefits available to subscribers would remain under the “pass”, but you would have to explicitly purchase the pass each month.  Secondary missions may move to the “pass” model with non-pass players getting only a handful of secondary missions per month. Ads would be completely removed from the app in this scenario since they no longer generate much revenue.
What’s in the Plans for 2022?
If you have read my blog over the years, you know that Apple and Google make it harder and harder to stop cheating (primarily multi-scoping).  It is being reported that Windows 11 will have the ability to run Android apps. I don’t know yet how that will impact QONQR, but I’m guessing it won’t be good. At best it will have no impact because I’ll be able to stop QONQR from running on Windows, at worst it could be a nightmare.
March 2022 will mark the 10 year anniversary QONQR hit the Apple App Store. I can say with a high level of confidence that QONQR is now the longest running location-based, multi-platform, mobile game.
Personally, I think 2022 needs to be a transformational year for QONQR. I’m not sure we can survive if the game doesn’t change. Apple, Google, and Microsoft have never cared about supporting mobile developers. Outrageous fees and abusive rules (recently acknowledged by the US Congress) have been part of the ecosystem from the start. There are dozens of apps that you can download from the official Google Play store that make it a simple tap to attempt to hack and manipulate an Android app, so players can do something the developer is attempting to prohibit. Once again Microsoft broke the tools I use to help secure the app from hackers, causing weeks of work to find a solution that would maintain the same level of security.  Apple and Google both purposely hide information from developers that would help them ensure real people are using their apps instead of bots. They do this under the façade of privacy, but ignore simple solutions that could maintain privacy, while helping developers ensure the integrity of how their apps are used.
I’ve said for years, the only way to stop hackers and cheaters in QONQR is to make it irrelevant. That requires a major shift in gameplay. Together, you the players and me the developer, we need to decide if we want QONQR to have such a major shift. I don’t know what that shift would look like, but 2022 might be the year we figure it out.
2020 was a year of making sure QONQR can survive. Through tons of work that year, massive software rewrites and updates, I was able to cut the cost of hosting QONQR. Today the cost of hosting QONQR all year, matches what we spent in three months during 2019. So far 2021 has been a year of slow work toward significant improvements to the game, but without major strategic impact to your daily playing. I’ve taken my time to avoid burn out. I’m enjoying the pace of my current work week. It has been good for my family and me.
I’m not sure what 2022 will look like for QONQR yet, but I’m excited to try something new. Maybe we’ll break things, maybe we will create something ten times better than what we have had for the last decade. Time will tell. We’ll figure it out together.
Thanks for keeping the lights on.
