Preventative Measures II (2023) – 300mm x 400mm x 80mm, Marble, Hawaiian Black Salt 🌫️ 🇿🇦

In Rustenburg where my Mother grew up, there is no longer a Jewish community, and thus nobody to take care of the graves of those buried. In order to stop the weeds from growing around the cemetery, salt was placed around the ground. This 'preventative measure' to me, spoke of mediums in art practice. Thus the idea for this work was born.

It's partner work uses the Hebrew text. This one, it's English translation. The meaning of this work has changed over time.

Shown most recently at the South African Jewish Museum in Cape Town, for my solo exhibition 'Set in Stone'. (May - July 2024) Previously exhibited at NWU Gallery, North West University for 'When the Dust Settles' (July - September 2023).
