Spent the morning doing frustrating paperwork so I rewarded myself at the onigiri restaurant! Now I am at peace.

For fillings, I chose green onion miso (yum!) and pickled plum (snack for later). For the meal, karaage fried chicken and—possibly my favorite thing in the world—fried stuffed lotus root. Also a very tasty salad, sides, and fresh pineapple for dessert!

my brain is in a bit of a overdrive with all the thoughts and speculation going around so i'm not sure this makes sense and if it does i'm certain many people have talked about this already BUT *if* over the next few episodes we have randegwene confrontation (and break up light willing) and rand learns about lanfear's torture side job and finally understands how she's manipulating him *and * there's an attack on cold rocks hold (caused by? sammael? lanfear herself??) and as suggested by other readers the adorable little girl takes the place of the girl in tear that rand tries desperately to bring back to life THEN maybe the combination of these events and their emotional impact tips rand into his no truce with the shadow attitude?

Also, I finally visited Pho Thin Tokyo! There is only one thing on the menu and it is beef pho and it is WONDERFUL. The legend is that the owner fell in love with the food at the original Hanoi location and decided to stand outside the restaurant until the chef taught him to make it. I’m not sure how true that is, but there’s part of me that needs to believe it……

We see Hannibal feed Will soup, but I firmly believe that he would never eat it himself, even if he was the one who made it. The sort of trauma he faced when he was a child doesn't go away, and we have already seen that his trauma does, in fact, affect the way he eats. But that also begs consideration to the thought of what Hannibal was thinking when he served Will that chicken soup.

In PZ I am now in the absolutely FASCINATING position of possibly having too many calories. Because one (1) of my sheep has some kind of mutation (I checked her genetics in debug bc I was like 'that cannot be normal') where she produces enough milk for like THREE STICKS OF BUTTER PER DIEM. ON HER OWN.

Bless Butterball, literally all I will need to make it through winter (if I survive that long) fat and happy is her and the fishing pond.

However, I have her and chickens and several other sheep and some cows.

The cows are not producing milk, unsure what's up with that, but like. They do not need to. They can just produce more cows, eventually. Even that's not that important because I have traps and the aforementioned fishing pond.

Something that strikes me as I'm planning on hosting some visiting relatives (BTW if I have any New Zealand followers can you please reblog or comment with details about what type of tea is considered standard or a little better than average in New Zealand?) is how much comfort and joy I've given vegetarian and vegan travelers in the past by just serving them some good tasty normal calorie levels vegetarian/vegan food, as unfortunately that can be hard to come by as a traveler in the US and so several of the people I've hosted were obviously running a calorie deficit because they were struggling to find enough food suitable to their diet.

And, I am not vegetarian! I'm low-key ideologically Not vegetarian! But I also believe that 1. It's immoral to intentionally trick someone else into violating their own morals even if you don't share them and 2. Hospitality means serving people good food that they like and can eat.

I've gotten a lot of shocked responses from people in the past when I would say something like, "This recipe can be made vegetarian/vegan if you swap the meat broth with vegetable broth/swap the cheese for vegan cheese or omit it" and then they'd assume that I must be vegetarian/vegan myself, and not understand why I would care about tracking which recipes could be vegetarian or consider it a valuable thing. Other people have dietary restrictions and sometimes I want to make them something nice to eat! It's shitty hosting to invite someone to Thanksgiving and then have like two things out of twenty they can eat, you know?
