Note
whenevee I said that I'm sick of miraculous because it going down so bad there's always people who told me to be patient, it will get better and my only question is "WHEN??"
No seriously I was told the same thing when s3 end, that Marinette will share the guardian secret to cat noir now that she's a guardian (because in s2 she told cat that it's not her secret to tell and now she's a guardian IT IS her secret to tell.
S4 proof that wrong.
Then I was told that it will get better since Marinette already apologize to cat noir and s5 just get worse and worsen.
And it's not me being impatient either because I don't mind long running show, I've been watching detective Conan since I was in elementary and now I'm already adult, that's how dedicated I am to a show. But only for a show that worth my investment.
Miraculous, since s4 already showed me that this show doesn't care about Marinette get out of her flaw, it relied on the show and the fandom (especially Marinette stan) to gaslight other audience to keep saying it will be better times and times again. I don't mind s4 because I know a conflict will be resolved but for it to actually not resolved at all but getting worst instead??? Yeah, I'm not going to stick around to see Marinette going deeper into the ugliest version of herself and see everyone just nod and say "that's the greatest ladybug in all history"
I'm now gonna say s4 isn't a ladynoir conflict season, it's a season to conditioned cat noir into perfect obedience pet and all that mistreatment? It's all just her being stressed, not a big deal, everyone has a bad day right? You just need to understand and be patient even if she leash out at you BECAUSE UNDERSTANDING IS THE KEY *HEAVY SARCASM*
---
The “just wait until it gets better” crowd needs to shut the fuck up. Season four premiered three and a half years ago. We’ve been waiting for this shit to get good for three years and 55 episodes (two of the specials are part of the S5 narrative so they count as S5 episodes). How reasonable is it to expect people to wait OVER FIFTY-FIVE EPISODES for a claimed-to-be-serialized show to deliver on any of its premises? I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s absolutely bonkers.
I don’t care if there are good scenes or even whole-ass good episodes with nothing annoying in them in there. Anyone can manage to write one good episode if they're given a dozen chances to do so and the Miraculous writers have always been good at writing a singular, isolated scene that’s bound to get the audience hyped. But, like, is the show good often enough to justify the rest of the show being boring at its best or absolutely infuriating garbage at its worst? In my opinion, if the season premiere of season 5 is good while the rest of it is a downward spiral of garbage, then season 5, as a whole, is garbage. Even if we consider the specials good as well, that means less than 20% of the season is good, which is one fifth of the whole season. Season four was even worse with having only a couple of episodes I considered worth watching, meaning the percentage drops down to 10%.
This is even more inexcusable when we’re using those isolated scenes to justify this show still being watchable. Even if a single scene in an otherwise incredibly annoying episode is the hypest shit ever, it’s not gonna make me want to rewatch that episode, because those single, couple of minute scenes are, once again, less than half of the whole. This is extra annoying when the same episodes have some of the supposedly best scenes in this show coupled with some of the worst, or if the said "best scenes" are actually absolutely infuriating with their implications (like Bug Noire kicking ass only being possible by the absolute sidelining of Adrien's character). If just watching a compilation of “best X scenes” lets you get a better experience than the actual show, the actual show is bad.
Once again, the media analyst in me is looking at patterns. The people hyping this show up focus on these small increments of good or it-will-be-good-if-the-writers-commit-to-it-which-we-know-they-won’t, so they can say that following the show is still worth it, but is it really? If you start quantifying your enjoyment of this show, do you actually spend more time enjoying it than waiting for something interesting to happen? The “some parts of this show are still good” is a pattern, alright, but, we must look at what that pattern means. The pattern means that the experience of watching Miraculous is mostly waiting for that good stuff to happen every once in a while. And, like, even the good stuff has stuff that annoys me personally, or is only made possible through things that piss me off, so I find nothing to enjoy about this shitshow.

Hey, Brother do you still believe in one another?
13. Osaka Trip - Fever Migraine
Heiji Hattori x Male Reader | Plantonic! Shinichi Kudo x Brother Reader
Fandom -> Detective Conan/Case Closed

Tumblr media
Words like violence Break the silence
Come crashing in into my little world
Can't you understand oh my little boy
Pleasures remain So does the pain
You wished to be deaf—wanting, if you weren't chained, to stab repeatedly something into your eardrums and making them bleed—never wanting to hear your own voice—the banshee like screams of horror and pain which came ripping, like a claw, through your throat—ever again.
The sounds of skin slapping against skin, his fawning breath with his heavy breathing and grunts down your face—next to your ear—and your own disgusting shameful moans—which are mixed with the cries and screams of begging him to stop—just stop—and the breathless gaps of whimpering in between—are an cursed reminding melody in your mind.
Blood—your blood, so crimson and rich in colour—which, now dried and sticky on your skin, leaked—beside the white sperm, out from your below and leaving a puddle to lay in behind.
Daiki wasn't gentle (and never would be) like Heiji—whenever you both had sex, when that certain magnetic pull came over the both of you and bringing forth a passionate lust—no, Daiki was mercilessly and brutal.
Daiki had rammed, without warning and any preparations, inside you and with such a force it got you bleeding—but he didn't stopped, thrusting even deeper into you that you thought........what did you thought?
Ever since Daiki had you locked up—in sense of being bound, chained, to an room you couldn't escape out form—your head feels like a constant static, buzzing with way too loud sounds of crashing and hissing—a chalkboard scratching in your brain it was.
Consciousness comes and goes from you—barely awake during most times to really gather a proper sense of thoughts and neither aware of the surroundings—stuck in a dreamless—sometimes haunting—limbo of surrealism with its absurdity of illusion and loss for the reality you should feel to be in.
Minds so full of a daze, you believed first you're shitfaced drunk—only having come close to it, during a Disco night with Sachiko—and that's why you could barely remember in gathering your own thoughts.
But even so, if that would be the case, then why is this loopy feeling—which spins your head like a carousel around—still present?
A pressuring pain hammers in the back of your head and echoing through your skull—and even with this loopy feeling, you knew a Migraine was coming.
Migraines either coming in a hurricane full force or slow crawling towards you—whichever way it was, the immense pressuring pain—which could make you black out sometimes—was always the same and without any sort of painkillers or ice cold baths to help reduce it, the pain was unbearable to even consider to be awake at all.
Sometimes it got so bad—when your ears starts to feel clouded up with cotton, a shiver down your spine and the sensation of numb tingling through your body—you had the urge to vomit and cruel up.
And although knowing how awful your migraines are, you rather take this suffering—than the pain Daiki inflicts you with.
Daiki says it's love and you beg to differ—this is anything but certainly not love, because what he does to you is a twisted thing of humanity rottenness.
~~~
Unlocking your chains, Daiki hoisted you up and carried you into the bathroom downstairs. Sure, whenever he does it—quite frequently as Daiki likes, what he always would say without being asked, his dear husband nicely clean after rounds of endless love making—you could made a run for it, but with how loopy and tired you felt, it wouldn't be far.
»I know, I know, dear. You having a headache, but I'm here and got what you need.« hushed Daiki after he draws a bath—with too much bubbles in it and a strong fragrance smell—and sats you in.
Pouring a cup of water—the temperatures way too hot for your liking, skin melting it feels—over you and tilting your head back, Daiki shows the bright orange pill which he holds up.
»See? And I'll give it to you, if you giving me, your perfect husband, a kiss~« to prove his point, Daiki places the pill in between his lips.
Staring blankly at Daiki, you weighed this generous offer out—Daiki wasn't really a kind person and when he does such small gestures of kindness to you, it always end up with another stab of pain afterwards.
Kissing Daiki on your own—and not having his lips being forced on yours—would feel as if you really had cheated on Heiji now—it's already bad enough that you, unwillingly, slept with Daiki and this alone makes you ashamed enough and guilt ridden—and you couldn't do that to him.
Would Heiji even still want to be together with you, when you eventually break free from this starting of hell? Probably not.
»Oh?« was all Daiki said and in a flash of seconds, forced you underwater.
Your legs kicked up, splashing water everywhere. Mouth agape in a gaps of shock, letting the water inflate your lungs.
There's definitely a difference between trying to drown yourself and getting drowned by someone else—and the latter sparked more fear in you—as it resurfaced back the memory of when you were a child and accidentally slipping into a park pond, which also makes you hesitate to swim and step into water ever since.
Back at the surface, above the water, you coughed and coughed—getting the water out your lungs.
You wonder, if you somehow managed to kill yourself while being here—it wouldn't be too much of a disappointment for the others.
Every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears
Every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by
Once upon a time I was in Love
Now I'm only falling apart
Total Eclipse of the heart
THE MILLION DOLLAR PENTAGRAM
I am actually a Magic Kaito fan disguised as a Detective Conan fan and when I found out they were showing the new DC film in my local cinema, I grabbed a friend and watched it.
This will contain spoilers of varying degrees, so read at your own peril.
It starts all anime and then you see your classic Det Conan character and you realize you really did spend 15 bucks on a movie with THAT style.
"It'S fOr KiDs" someone has decided, as a swordsman violently kills a gang of thugs onscreen, blood splattering everywhere.
Wow, Heiji takes "no homo" very seriously, huh?
I guess I'd be peeved too if my first kiss got almost taken by a no-good thief who doesn't even have the decency to be traumatized by it too.
I see the stained window and think "Someone's gonna crash through that".
I'm expecting it to be KID.
It's not.
It's Heiji on a motorcycle.
KID, Heiji is showing you up in terms of dramatics, you gotta up your game.
I don't remember Kaito having any skills in swordsmanship, did he pick it up specifically so he could at least somewhat defend himself against Heiji?
Good for Heiji, realizing Kaito looks a heck of a lot like Kudo. After Ran, I think he's the only other person to have seen Kaito's bare face. Please let Kaito Kuroba be a main character in one of these movies, WITH HEIJI AND RAN.
They really do nothing with this revelation, huh?
This is my first proper exposure to Okita. I like him. I can't remember much about him, but I think he helps it feel like Heiji does have a life outside of Shinichi.
Heiji and new swordsman boy almost have a competition over who gets to date Kazuha. My friend groans and complains about cringe. If I were Kazuha, I honestly would have grabbed Ran and left them both in the dust.
Listen, our detective boys gasped when they saw the cuts to KID's suit, I'm taking it for concern, not surprise at the style of the cut.
Conan: We saved your life. Will you give us exposition?
KID: Usually no, but this time, sure.
Heiji: Really?
KID: Sike! The exposition is an obligatory fetch quest, see ya suckers!
"Hi, lemme telegraph super easily to E V E R Y O N E that I am actually a disguised Kaitou Kid"
Either they've nerfed him, he exchanged competence as a kaitou for combat skills or he's trolling everyone, including the audience.
Or he can't copy a Kyoto accent to save his life. His one weakness outside of iceskating and fish.
This is my first proper exposure to Momiji, and honestly this rich girl is delulu.
I love delulu and I love her.
My friend is just confused by her. She hasn't interacted with Detective Conan in 15+ years. She doesn't know who half these characters are.
Y'all sleeping on Heiji and Ran's friendship, it's so cute.
My friend is right, the soundtrack is bizarrely good.
She agrees with me that Kaitou Kid is kinda the highlight of the film.
I bet if the Sniper had still been on the roof when Kaito got there, the boy would have been F E R A L.
Pretty sure Kaito has tamed those seagulls, the way he tamed his doves, i.e. they're his informants.
Why are you trying to snipe during rain? Are you stupid?
Mmmh, KID angst. Not on the level of Nightmare, but I'll take the crumbs over nothing.
THERE SHE IS. AOKO IN GLORIOUS 4K.
After seeing Aoko in fandom with fanon portrayals for a long time, it's weird to see her being so... normal.
Like no short temper or anything. Just a nice girl, having to act twice her age in a highly stressful situation.
um hello? Where's her mother who - it turns out - is still happily married to Ginzo???
After talking and interacting with Conan, Aoko says he reminds her of her friend as a child (Kaito as a kid- no not that KID). I think it's supposed to be just by appearance, but considering how she's interacted with Conan previously and is only staring at him as he rambles his long deduction, I feel like it's personality as well.
Basically, I consider it canon that Kaito Kuroba's childhood personality wasn't just cute and bubbly, but also absolutely terrifying, similar to "Conan"'s personality to a horrific degree.
And maybe without his horrible troll of a dad, Kaito wouldn't just have been a normal teen, but also become a detective, if Conan's ramblings really did remind Aoko of child!Kaito
I've somehow lost the plot, why is there suddenly a plane.
Conan: "You killed that dude, right? But more importantly, yoU TRIED TO KILL KID-" (This is exaggerated)
Good news for all Kidnichi nay-sayers: There is no Kidnichi in this film. I know. Amazing. Miracles do happen.
Why y'all complaining about the treasure? Isn't this the fictional Japanese equivalent to the Enigma Machine? You can't put a price on that! It's cultural heritage, not outdated junk!!! Put it in a museum!!!
Ah yes. Kaitou Kid's old little caricature - one with a moustache. I'm sure no one ever questioned why KID changed his signature charicature to something more childish.
Heiji confessed! But after a bomb exploded nearby, so I tell my friend there's no way Kazuha heard him (I'm right btw).
WAIT, STAR ISLAND IS REAL?
Man, I wish I could read what Kaito and Aoko are texting each other. I can't :(
"Why yes, my wife of 20 years, I DO have a brother I NEVER told you about. Why am I bringing him up now? Oh, just felt like it."
My friend thinks Yukiko's laughter in response is obnoxiously fake. It is now an insider joke.
I forgot Toichi's canonically alive and when Yukiko asked if the brothers were still in contact, and Yusaku was like "Yeah, we still are :3", I thought "DUDE, YOUR BROTHER'S BEEN DEAD FOR LIKE EIGHT YEARS DON'T LIE"
This means Yusaku has known for YEARS that his brother faked his death. Great.
No, Shinichi and Kaito don't know they're cousins. Their dads are doing amazing at keeping information from their boys. And wives, apparently.
WAIT. THE CLUMSY DETECTIVE WAS TOICHI??? I thought it was KID, and all the obvious "KIDs" were actually innocent...
Well, we now know Toichi does not shy away from violence. But I'm so disappointed that that wasn't KID. You know, protecting Conan AND avenging Nakamori...
As far as I'm concerned, the movies are canon from now on. This may not be news to fans, but it is to me
Ah yes, there he is, the new title holder of "Worst Dad In DCMK", Toichi Kuroba himself.
Or as my friend, someone with no idea of who Kaitou Corbeau is, called him: "KAITOU ADULT??"
Something something about winter, I am a Magic Kaito fan I do not care unless my boy is in it. So I will not watch the next movie, thanks.
My last complaint for the night: "It was good... But not enough Kaitou Kid" (to which my friend responded, he was in it plenty).
I think the sentiment stems more from not really getting much from Kaito's POV. The emotional focus was almost entirely Heiji's and weirdly, Ran.
Well, at least Ran did have something to do, I guess (poor girl was mostly sidelined :( )
Absolute last comment from friend: "Everyone is so normal, why is HE the only one wearing a CAPE?"
OPERATION: HOLDING MY ASS ACCOUNTABLE
Now that I'm back from vacation, it's time to get to business with the AA Crossover Poll reward fics!
The top #3, in order, were
1) Mob Psycho 100
2) Ghost Trick
And 3) Lupin the 3rd!
Honorable mentions were: Professor Layton, Persona, and Detective Conan (my beloved you will happen someday), and a lot of write-ins for Danganronpa (unsurprising).
I promised I'd write fics for the top three, so here's proof I have a plan 🫣😭
I'll be releasing these on a monthly basis, to spare my sanity, so:
MAY: Mob Psycho 100
JUNE: Lupin the 3rd
JULY: Ghost Trick (so I have time to playthru the remaster on Switch coming out this summer!)
For those invested, I have a poll for you:
Thanks for the vibes, everybody!! Feel free to comment or DM if you happen to want to do some fun art to make this AA Crossover thing a bit of a smash. If popular enough, I MIGHT consider doing some more fandoms, too! 💜
20 questions for writers
I was tagged by @marcellebelle! Thanks for that!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
15!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
69,471 (eheh, nice)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
So on AO3 I got My Hero Academia, Detective Conan/Magic Kaito and Before the Coffee gets cold. Outside of AO3 I got some Naruto, FMA, One Piece, Bungo Stray Dogs, wips too (and there was that time I was writing crack fic about Mob Psycho here on tumblr with Panda, that was fun). There's probably some other I've forgotten too- oh yeah there was some Hetalia at some point.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Noisy as the dead (495)
Who The F- Is This (432)
Nothing Wants To Suffer (375)
Who am I beating up? (131)
What it takes to survive (72)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I tend to but lately, I haven't really kept up with it. I am sorry. I should get to it at some point soon, but be aware every comment is read and enjoyed.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Morituro, probably? Considering both All Might and Izuku died so, yeah.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I like to think it's Before The Coffee Gets Cold - The Sisters, since this fic is about closure after death.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Oh! I got once a hate comment on who the f- is this, to which i answered with an essay or two. I probably shouldn't have but also it was really fun at the time. Otherwise I don't believe I do.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I can barely write romance, smut is way out of my reach. I also don't really have any interest in writing any, to be honest.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Crossovers are probably right after Time Travel in term of things I love. Not one I've written but special mention to that one time I dream about Zabuza from naruto/Reigen from mob psycho as a ship.
Don't know if it's the craziest but I had a The Rising of the Shield Hero/Naruto one started once, there was also that Detective Conan/My Hero Academia one started with Panda that the idea was so good. We should get back to it, one day.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
*squint* I don't think so (unless it was done without my knowledge) but strong maybe back in my ff.net era. Though I did translate some fics myself before (it wasn't done very well, but I did try back then, and it did help me a lot learning english. Problem was I'm not good at grammar stuff.)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Once again, there was that cracky Mob Psycho one here somewhere. Also, some projects with Panda that are really good except words hard for both of us.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
...yeah no idea right now, come ask me another time. (It tends to change on the day, but also right now I'm on a no-romance streak so, better luck next time)
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
*crying* all of them.
Okay so, first of all, a wip is never dead unless I decide to bury it. Which doesn't happens. I still have hope one day I'll get back to them.
Right now I really want to work on Dad For All and the DCMK NOC AU except, word hard and planning harder. But I'll get there, one day, even if it's in 10 years.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I honestly got no idea? I probably got some I'm just not sure what it could be.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
word hard. Also no idea how grammar works beyond "whatever feels right to me".
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Eeh, I probably wouldn't do it because it's bothersome having to look up a translation while you're reading a fic, unless it's something that fits with the context or just a few words here and there. Also switching languages in the middle of thinking is so hard to do, why would you do this to me.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Naruto, back in uuuhhhhhh probably middle school. It was a long time ago. Nothing is left of what I could have written then. (Also close to that time period was D.Gray-man).
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Huge huge huge fondness for Before The Coffee Gets Cold - The Sisters, probably because Im very fond of that universe and also when grief is explored and closure is sought. I also really like the flowers have water.
Who the f- is this and Noisy as the dead are my funny projects though, I have lot of fun working on them.
Tagging! @achairwithapandaonit @grolahvol @figurativepieceoftrash @bloustorm @fanfiction-artist-prototype @guesst and uuh really tbh anyone who sees this and feel like doing it! I just picked a few people off the top of my head but I know there's a lot more of you seeing this.
B, J, M, and Y for the ship/fandom meme?
B-Surprisingly, it was Rosegarden from RWBY. When it first popped up, I was sort of just "OK cool" but as time went on, the art, fanfics, and overall energy of the ship won me over. Two kids who never considered romance finding it with each other and growing as people all the while is just a great story.
J-Dungeon Meshi. I didn't even know this show existed until I saw it on Tumblr
M-I think a character I would most like to have as a friend would be... maybe Pikachu from Pokemon? I'm on a bit of a Pokemon kick right now
Y-Off the top of my head, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Detective Conan (though I hope to rectify that soon). Also Trigun. There are plenty more though, I just can't think of them right now.
Send me a letter
Fandoms going crazy I guess
That Rimworld update sure is something alright. I don't think I'll be getting the SCP update, I'm having enough difficulties with Biotech as it is. The underground mazes look brutal though, Veequeue got party wiped almost instantly.
Tumblr media
Case Closed/Detective Conan fandom blowing as apparently Kaito and Shinichi's fathers are twins, which makes them close cousins. Which is a problem of Star Wars proportions, considering Kaito and Shinichi was one of the biggest ships on the internet I'd ever seen, despite the rumors that a cousin reveal was going to happen for the past few years.
I read some amazing Kaito with Hakuba AUs and used to ship Shinichi with Ran or Hattori anyway back in the day (like I didn't read my share of Shinichi with Kaito as well, they make a good mystery solving team). But guys, I'm so sorry.
As anyone who's read any of my posts will know, Akam is my favorite ship in the Detective Conan fandom. It's also one of my only ships, not because I have anything against other ships in general, but because it takes a lot for me to get invested in romantic pairings anyway.
(I do like Shinran, though, and Hirorei is cute as well, not to mention tragic because of how that story ended. But that's a post for another time.)
Anyway, since it's the month of Valentine's Day and all that, I figured I would write a post explaining why this ship appeals to me so much. Is it necessary? Probably not. Am I going to do it anyway? Yep.
The first reason is that I love a good enemies-to-lovers story. Two characters who hate each other (well, I don't think Akai hates Rei, but you get the point) slowly learning to tolerate each other's presence, becoming friends and then falling in love with each other sets the stage for some incredible angst and drama. And the fact that the biggest driving force behind Rei's hatred for Akai is based on a misunderstanding (that might not quite be the word I'm looking for, but whatever) just makes it even better. It's incredible how Akai is willing to bear the brunt of Rei's anger just so Rei doesn't have to live with the knowledge that he's the reason Scotch is dead. I honestly feel like the fact that he's kept it to himself for so long is proof that he cares for Rei. Akai could easily have told him the truth, and to be quite honest, he doesn't benefit at all by keeping it a secret from him. If anything, telling Rei what actually happened would probably be more beneficial since it might get him off his back. The only reason he's chosen to stay silent is to protect Rei.
Another reason is that Akai and Rei have a lot of potential to be able to help each other heal from everything they've been through in their lives. Their conflict is such an integral part of their stories that I feel like there has to be a resolution of some sort eventually, and when that happens, the idea of them becoming each other's support system is just perfection. Personally, I think they would understand each other better than anyone else in their lives. Not just because they've known each other for years, but because they've both experienced firsthand just how tragic life can be. Rei had to watch as all of his friends from the police academy died one by one and he couldn't do anything to save them. Akai's father disappeared from his life when he was fifteen and is most likely dead, and the woman he loved and was planning to have a future with was murdered by Gin. On top of that, there's almost no one else in their lives who would understand just how terrible the Organization is. Everyone else knows they're a threat, sure, but Akai and Rei were both inside the Organization for years (and in Rei's case, he's still there), and they know firsthand exactly how cruel they're willing to be in order to achieve their goals. And since they both had covers to maintain, they've almost definitely had to directly commit their fair share of immoral acts. The only other person who would understand the Organization as well as Akai and Rei is Sherry, but personally I'm not considering her as a potential partner for either of them.
Third, I just love the idea of them being each other's safe space. There's something incredible about two people as dark as Akai and Rei finding comfort in each other. Both of them are incredibly tragic people, and to be honest, neither of them is a good person, at least not in the way that most of us would consider someone to be a good person. They're not irredeemably evil like Gin, Vodka, and Rum, and ultimately everything they do is for the right cause, but they're both willing and able to do some pretty terrible things to achieve said goals. Neither of them is particularly affectionate, so the idea of the two of them finding security and warmth with each other becomes even more special. And as I mentioned earlier, they would understand each other better than anyone, so they would be able to provide genuine comfort for each other. It would be a perfect case of "We've both been through hell, and no, it's not okay, and our lives have been pretty terrible all things considered, but I've got you and you've got me, and we're going to figure this out together."
Also, they would walk Haro together, and honestly I think that's beautiful.
Well, thanks for letting me ramble, everyone :)
I've been noticing your posts of Detective Conon (is that how it's spelled?) anyways I'd been noticing them and tbh I'd forgotten who it was and I'd been seeing the little boy wondering why he looked so familiar before I remembered where I'd seen him.
He's from the Lupin III X Detective Conon special. That's when it clicked that you were posting Detective Conon. Bro I didn't realize it was him till I remembered this- 😭
[Warning: Rambling's of a fangirl Ahead]
Hai there! Hope you're having a great day!!
Yeah, The Conan (as in Arthur 'Conan' Doyle) X Lupin special was a thing, lol. The thing is that I'm just like you except I'm on the other side of the spectrum, I've only watched Detective Conan, but I haven't watched Lupin at all. I've watched the special as well, but it seems that it was more Lupin focused (I heard it was made for anniversary or something??), so I was kind of confused for some of the parts. There's a crossover movie as well, but after my reaction to the special, I figured that I'd watch both after I have consumed Lupin media. I still haven't watched it but that's because I'm too busy to watch anything at the moment now, but once I'm able to have more free time, I'd love to start watching Lupin since it seems like a lot of fun!!
I'm pretty sure the crossovers were made because both shows share the same animation studio. Detco's (short for detective Conan) mangaka, Gosho Aoyama is a huge fan of the series, even stating Fujiko is his ideal woman. There's even a character who's based off of Fujiko in detco as well!
As for Detective Conan, considering all the fandom I've seen you be a part of (You have great taste BTW), I feel like it would be a shame if you didn't check out the series because I feel it fits perfectly into your tastes. I myself started the series when I heard there were Urusei Yatsura references in the series:
Tumblr media
Couldn't find a clear anime counterpart of this so have the manga version instead. This is only just one of the references though.
And while looking up the reference, I came across a small plot summary and it intrigued me. Then I started the anime and I've been obsessed since. Like Ace Attorney, Detco is a mystery series with tons of lovable characters. It also has an overarching plot which keeps you intrigued at the same time. A series filled with Love, Thrill, Shock and Suspense to the brim. I would highly recommend it!!
You can experience the series by either manga or anime. I'd say for you anime might suit better since the manga is still ongoing, over 100 volumes, is officially licensed but it has localization (the names, 96% of the fandom uses the Japanese names), it is readable on the VIZ app for a small subscription, but the localization problem still exists. Of course, you can read fanscans without localization as well. Mangadex is good site for that.
As for the anime, it has over a 1000 episodes (+ movies and OVA and other stuff) but that's because it has tons of fillers. 65% of the series is canon to the manga. You can easily look up a filler list and watch which are canon according to that. There are good fillers, but you can watch those in your own time. There are movies as well, which even though not canon, I'd definitely still recommend.
I'd say if you're watching the TV series in the quickest time, it would take a few months. I think I took 5-6 months, but I also took a lot of breaks in between so it isn't all that relevant.
Anyways, even though watching Detco is time consuming it is still something I do not and will never regret because of story and characters this amazing (and memeable) and I'm pretty sure everyone else who have watched it feels the same.
Detco does have a sister series called Magic Kaito which is much shorter in case you've decided not to watch Detective Conan. It's a phantom thief focused series with 5 volumes and 25 something episodes. However, if you do watch Detco, you will come across Magic Kaito whether you like it or not..
In the end, the choice is up to you. Sorry for all the rambling, when I start talking about any my favorite things I just can't seem to calm down..
Tumblr media
If you have any queries, feel free to ask! I'm open to any discussion!!
I reblogged a post from you about fanfic asks being welcomed so I hope you don't mind some questions ^^
Do you have a favourite line/paragraph you have written that has stuck with you or you're really proud of?
What was the first fandom/topic you wrote for?
Is there a bg3 character you struggle to write for? Why is that?
And
Do you have any fics you haven't gotten around to writing yet? Did you want to share a bit about it?
I 100% do not mind AT ALL! These are wonderful questions, I'll do my best to answer them, thank you so much! <3 Do you have a favourite line/paragraph you have written that has stuck with you or you're really proud of? Off the top of my head, it would be this part from You, Blinding Like the Sun:
Astarion despises you so very much because you’re everything he isn’t, everything he has never been. Not even alive could he have held a candle to you, because you’re perfect and he is falling, and he hates that he is falling for you.
If I remember correctly, that was the part I built the entire fic on. Don't know if I'm particularly proud of it, but I really like the flow and how those two sentences are basically summing up the entirety of Astarion's feelings for Tav!
What was the first fandom/topic you wrote for? The first fic I published was in the Detective Conan/Case Closed fandom in 2010 (lol) and that stuff was dark, if I remember correctly. 13 y/o me surely had the time of her life, though. Before that I wrote down "original" works and Harry Potter AU's, not knowing that would be considered fanfiction. Is there a bg3 character you struggle to write for? Why is that? I had to laugh at this question because only last night I mentioned on discord how much I hate even thinking about writing Cazador! I just hate him so, so much, ugh, my mind goes to really dark places with that one. But I think I would also be really bad at writing Gale because that mf hits a little too close to home for me.
Do you have any fics you haven't gotten around to writing yet? Did you want to share a bit about it? *side-eyes the X WIPs sitting in my google docs* uhm, maybe? I'm working on a longfic atm so I don't know if that counts, but I'm actively trying to incorporate ideas into it that I just know I won't use otherwise. This can apply to bigger and smaller plot points, but it's mostly little tender moments that wouldn't make sense to be standalone pieces. One "let me untangle that hair-nest on your head with my broken comb, love" is one of them, ha!
WHUMPTOBER 2023, DAY 13: “It comes and goes like the strength in your bones.”
Cold Compress | Infection | “I don’t feel so good.”
I suppose the HSAU Taro and AkeJun fics aren't my only annual fic - "Matsuyama gets a wound infected and Yoshiko has to wrestle that out of him" is another. 2021 had my first CT fic, "Little Things", serve as a fill for "Infected Wound". 2022 had "Helping Hand", another challenge fic which was a take on traditional H/C, but make it my OTP. And now 2023 has this fic! Wowie kazoowie, mental illness never stops!
I did swerve a bit on the formula by setting this a year after both LT and HH (…not Hungry Heart)... so that's something, I guess?
Okay, more seriously, the quote prompt was just prime MatsuYoshi material, I couldn't resist. Also, it's Friday, and around here we do F/M Fridays sometimes, and Whumptober won't be an exception dammit.
I owe being on time, somehow, to rewatching some Detective Conan stuff to jolt me back awake. Life hasn't been very nice to my mental health lately, I'm afraid. Oh, and spite. Spite and not wanting to miss my chance at the bingo at the end of the month! Nice carrots to have.
-----------------
Fragile in the Rough
Summary: Matsuyama has a confession to make; not of love, but of weakness. It does have a similar level of intimacy, at least.
Fandom: Captain Tsubasa
Word Count: 1.2K words
AO3 version available here.
---------------------
There are things you learn throughout your life for which it’s worth sucking up your pride and ask for someone else’s help. There’s improving yourself when just doing it on your own isn’t cutting it anymore. There’s asking for help when it involves someone other than you and your skills or knowledge isn’t enough.
And there’s admitting when you’re not doing well. It takes a bold amount of trust in whoever you need to tell that too, a good assessment of one’s limits and – most painfully – an admission of vulnerability that’s not easy for everyone.
The thing is, right now, that’s exactly when he needs to do, but he can’t do it; yet this isn’t even a matter of pride.
He’d guess, for some, it’d be a gigantic bruise to their ego they may never recover from – but for him, it’s not. How do you expect a good team captain to consider admitting to your weaknesses something to be ashamed of? None of your teammates will ever tell you what’s wrong with them if they read on your face disdain and shame about it. Even just for their sake, upholding such a senseless sense of pride wouldn’t be of any use – quite the opposite.
But this isn’t a matter of pride. He isn’t above admitting he needs help. He has before and he will do it until he dies, that’s just how being a human is. He isn’t stupid enough not to know that nor too proud not to recognize that, actually, today’s difficult on him and he’s tired.
He just hates worrying people, man. Every single time he’s unwell, he sees the weight it puts on the shoulders of those who care about him and the way it drags their faces down. He sees how his friends will drop what they’re doing, ask if he’s fine, and never be able to fully focus back on what they were doing before that. All of it, he hates it, because he isn’t worth distracting yourself. He can take care of himself without any issue… most of the time.
A leader has to take on himself, sometimes – well, in his case, it’s most of the time. He treats colds like he’d treat small scrapes and handles it all on his own. The leader, however, is also the one who serves as an example, and for all of his unwillingness to worry people, there’s also an undeniable feeling that he can’t let his teammates follow in his footsteps, in this instance…
Well, if he’s come to this conclusion, it’s ironically because his brain’s much too fuzzy to properly work on anything and the guys have noticed. Oda has said multiple times he’d take care of his workload and he’s noticed Kato very unsubtly assume a role as assistant coach. Neither of them is slick, but he appreciates it, no matter how much his sense of responsibilities and duty is barking at him to get back to work, not to let anyone worry about him.
Not to mention, there’s nobody he wants to confess this crap to. Who even has time for that? He’s supposed to streamline the team’s efforts, not add onto the pile. A pair of hands is never too much around here, not when there’s snow to shovel away and strategies to brainstorm. All in all, no, there’s nobody he should be telling this stuff about.
Well… that’s not entirely accurate. There is one person he’d be willing to talk to about this. Unfortunately, it happens to be the one person he’d rather not worry at all, because of all people he knows, she’s the one who’s plenty concerned for him already on a good day, perhaps even more so than his parents because she isn’t too used to him yet.
Fujisawa has become perhaps not the centre of his life, but saying she’s half his heart is pretty accurate. The fact they’re even both dating is somewhat of a miracle, because he’s rough and while she’s solid as steel, she’s also soft to the touch and not the sort who likes rubbing elbows and getting dirty. He does love the parts of her who will get her hands dirty and do it, fix what needs to be fixed, without a complaint. Oh, that’s part of why he doesn’t want to burden her with worry, her natural compassion, her strive to take care of issues and the inability to speak of her feelings if she feels they’d also be a burden… (They’re kind of made for each other, in that sense, huh?).
But you know what his parents have always told him? That a husband and a wife are always here for each other – and if they’re not married (they’re sixteen, give them some time dammit)
So there he is, inside the clubroom, holding onto an aching arm that’s not stopped causing him issues for a couple days – hey, maybe it’s part of the issue, actually.
“Hey, Fujisawa,” he says without any real intonation.
She turns around almost immediately, the unhappy expression on her face all but confirming she has noticed something was off before he could even tell her about it.
“Oh, it’s you, Matsuyama,” she greets him. “What can I do for you?”
“Can I… ask you something a bit private?”
The flush that comes to her face, oh so quickly, is beyond endearing. He’s really down bad, but also, isn’t that the point?
“Of course.”
He gets closer to her, to the point where he can start counting her hairs.
“See, I’m a bit, uh… I’m a bit loopy, today.” Yeah that sounds accurate. “By that, I mean, uh… I don’t feel so good.”
He’s pretty sure confessing his feelings to her was less difficult. Even now, he doesn’t really want any of this.
“I thought you were feeling off,” she replies in a tendre tone. “Can I take your rtemperature to check something?”
“Oh, sure, go for it.”
He expects her to get a thermometer from the first-aid kit under the desk; but all she does is tiptoe to his height, push his hair out of the way and put a hand on his forehead. The contact is enough to make him have to repress a chill – it’s not a bad feeling, far from it, just a little overwhelming.
“You do have a fever, I’m pretty sure,” she tells him as she recovers her normal footing.
“Ah, crap, that doesn’t sound good.”
Her eyes slide to his left arm.
“Is your wound not getting any better?”
“Ah, uh… No, it doesn’t seem to. I dunno why, maybe I’ve done something wrong when I dressed it….?”
“Can I check it?”
“Oh, sure! Sure.”
He tends his arm so she can easily unwrap the bandage… or try to, because as it turns out, she has trouble taking off his skin, the damn fabric sticking to the wound. There’s fresh blood just peeking through the worst of it and the stench – oh, he forgot how much this thing stinks.
“It’s gotten infected,” she verbally recoils as she announces it. “That’d explain your fever pretty well…”
He forgot to disinfect the thing the other day. Goddammit, that didn’t sound too hard to do too.
“Oh, yeah, that makes sense.”
Fujisawa frets a little, looking around, before settling on him back again.
“Can you sit down, please? I’ll take care of it, but I need you to sit still as I do.”
“No worries.” He takes a seat right where she needs him to be. “You’re sure you don’t mind, though? I could do that myself or just ask the nurse.”
“No, it’s fine, I’ve learned to do it. Plus…” She blushes again, right as she opens the first-aid kit. “I want to do it for you.”
“Then go for it.” He watches her prepare the operation with undenied fondness in his eyes. “Thank you so much, Fujisawa.”
“Don’t fret it. Now, I apologize, but it’s going to sting a little…”
A dab of water on the wound just to wash it does remind him to be more careful, next time.
My Fandom Journey: Anime
I thought I'd make a little series talking about my various fandoms and my journey in them. I'm starting with a broader topic of anime, getting into more specific titles at a later post. I'll do a manga one next but my initial introduction into Japanese media was anime so I'll start here. This is gonna be a long rambly post btw.
When I was in the Philippines at a young age (I wanna say around 5 or 6 years old), me and my siblings started watching Digimon Adventures first, we literally watched all the episodes up until Digimon Tamers. We did watch western cartoons as well, we were lucky enough to have Sky so we had Disney, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. One of the reasons I think I liked anime was because it wasn't as overly stylized as cartoons, human designs and characterizations weren't overly exaggerated like in Hey Arnold or Rugrats for example, not to say I didn't enjoy those cartoons because I totally did up to a certain age. Also because anime tended to have overarching storylines and arcs for the most part, compared to the episodic nature of early western cartoons, I found myself focusing more on the story and wanting to watch every episode. Honestly I remember being glued to the screen while watching Digimon and always made sure I watched every episode and if I missed one then I'd catch the re-run that they aired on the weekend (I remembered the exact airing schedule of this damn series when I was a child). Whereas when I missed an episode of Spongebob Squarepants or Courage the Cowardly Dog I'd be fine about it.
Most animes that were aimed at kids were licensed and aired on local channels like GMA and ABS-CBN and were majority dubbed in tagalog but there were a few channels that aired anime in english dub so that's how I watched anime most of the time. I am glad though that they kept the original Japanese openings and ending songs for the Tagalog dub. (I loved Hunter X Hunter's Ohayou Opening, it was seriously the best)
Majority of the imported anime to the Philippines were mostly shonen (as far as I was aware anyway) so the other animes we watched after school were Slamdunk, Medabots, Yu-gi-oh, Beyblade, Hunter X Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho, Flame of Recca and a few episodes of Rave Master and Case Closed/Detective Conan. Surprisingly we weren't that into Pokemon but we did watch majority of the early seasons (Can't remember which ones, but Brock and Misty were the entourage). I think we watched Zoids too but only a few epsiodes.
When we got a bit older but still children (I was around 9-11) we started watching animes that would be considered seinen such as Rurouni Kenshin, GetBackers, Saiyuki, Cowboy Bebop, Galaxy Angels, Ranma 1/2, and a mecha anime that for the life of me I cannot remember the title of (It might've been part of the Brave franchise??). I also occasionally watched You're Under Arrest and Lupin III. Anyway most of these were obviously more censored than the manga or original Japanese version but they were still definitely innapropriate for my age range. I still don't understand how we got away with watching Rurouni Kenshin as kids it was aired on a sky channel that wasn't aimed at kids so the violence wasn't that censored, I think it was the first subbed anime that I watched
There are also animes that I didn't really watch but I was aware of like Naruto, Dragon Ball (Sorry to the fans I never quite got into these two series), Outlaw Star, Ah My Goddess, Inuyasha, Baki the Grappler, Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura.
Side note there's also another anime that I can't remember the name of but I've been looking for it forever, It's an old sci-fi spaceship anime about a man going through a mid-life crisis and becomes isekai'd(?) into this spaceship where he plays the electric guitar to power the ship and fight. Does anyone know this anime???
After moving to New Zealand when I was 11 I got exposed to different genres outside the usual Shonen and Seinen I grew up on. My first shoujo anime was Ouran High School Host Club followed by Fruits Basket, which while they're not my favorites, they hold a special place in my heart. I do remember watching animes early morning on Sunday, I would wake up at like 6am to watch Megaman, Digimon Frontier and Tokyo Mew Mew (yeah... 4kids ver). After school they aired Yu-gi-oh GX, Shaman King,
How I watched Anime also changed from just seeing what was on TV, the internet was becoming more accessible in our family (we had dial-up at first) and there were also video rental stores as well as the usual ripped DVDs that we got from friends. There wasn't a lot of choices in rental stores but they always had a decent selection of anime films and that's how I got into Ghibli films, also I think I watched the Ghost in the Shell film and 10 Centimeters per Second. At this time I watched The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Ao Hana, Hell Girl, xxxHolic, Mushishi, Death Note (early episodes), and Bleach (only until the end of Soul Soiety arc). You can kind of see from my selection here that I had a phase of mystery, supernatural anime.
I can't quite remember at around what point I transitioned to being manga only but once I came across the original source material of my favorite anime I stopped watching anime for the most part. There are notable exceptions, such as anime-only series like Psycho-pass and K, music related series like K-On! (I really wanted to hear the songs). Nowadays I'll read a manga or light novel (if translated) first then decide if it's worth it to watch the anime. I did that with Kuroko no Basket and Haikyuu! but I haven't done it recently. Basically if the anime has a manga as it's original source I'll choose that but if it's an original anime or a game-based, light novel based anime then I'll watch it.
This has been a loooong post. I'll do another one on my manga journey maybe tomorrow. This series essentially is just so I can word vomit about my fandoms because a lot of my friends don't share as many fandoms with me. If you've read until here then thanks for listening to me ramble.
Bye-bee~
WAIT WHAT HAPPENED WITH ROGUEFORT?? HE'S ONE OF MY FAVES
apparently there's a good chunk of people who consider his relationship with walnut problematic calling him a predator/groomer/pedophile, in my opinion they have a fun detective conan/lupin the 3rd dynamic and he's basically just french sterotype about his demeanor BUT i'm not gonna tag this as i'm scared this might backfire so i'd rather keep silent and avoid posting any content about him to avoid being cancelled, cookie fandom can be scary sometimes i've already been told to stop drawing him once cause of that popular opinion on him
Thank you for the tag ! Little warning: I wrote some long paragraphs here...
●Name(s): I go by Iris and Ray. Ray's my middle name (actually, it's Raymond). Iris is just my deadname with a few extra steps.
●Pronouns: they/them.
●Star sign: Taurus sun, Virgo moon, Cancer rising. Can't remember the rest.
●# of siblings & fun facts about them (if you have any): one twin sister who's hyperfixating on Hello Kitty right now.
●# of pets & their names: a dog and a cat. Their names are Cookie (chose it when I was 12. He almost got named after a French YouTuber who turned out to be a despicable person...) and Bianca (the neighbours named her, she was their cat before she chose us instead).
●Fandoms: Depending on which social media I'm on, I can be in different fandoms... Here, on Tumblr, I am more connected to the classic rock fandom, especially The Kinks' fandom. I'm also really into Cheap Trick, and many, many other bands but these two are my favourites among my favourites. I currently hyperfix on the Pretty Things, as well as CSNY (+bands related to them, but mainly the Byrds & Buffalo Springfield). I don't really talk about it here, but I like visual kei too. And rhythm games ! I play, or have played at one point, at a lot of rhythm games in my free time... Love Live, Bandori, D4DJ, Idolmaster, Project Sekai, World Dai Star... I also like anime like Mobile Suit Gundam, my favourite series from it is Iron-Blooded Orphans. I enjoy Black Clover, Bocchi the Rock and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, but I am not in their fandoms. I have like 200 mangas at home (my sister has around 300? 400, 500 I think?). I already listed way too many fandoms, and I'm not even done yet. I had so many hyperfixations listing them would take hours.
●Favorite color: the colour wheel from yellow-green to dark blue-purple.
●Favorite song:
(The music video has flashing lights)
●Favorite author (of anything readable-- books, fanfics, zines, webtoons, whatever!): Mochizuki Jun (Pandora Hearts, Vanitas no Carte), Araki Hirohiko (JJBA), Aoyama Gosho (Detective Conan), Asagiri Kafka (Bungo Stray Dogs)... Don't really have a favourite
●Hobbies: Drawing... Trying out foods... Video Games... I haven't changed much since middle school. I always thought I was exaggerating because it was the hobbies everyone in the Hetalia fandom had, but no, these are really my hobbies.
●Favorite fic type: the group chat-style ones. Thinking about it, after writing a now-deleted fanfic in this style, group chat-style fanfics are some of the hardest to write, because it seems so simple it can quickly go out of board. Basically I like fics that are more /j than /srs.
●Favorite holiday: Christmas and New Year, because I get to eat, and I get presents. I guess the same can be said for my birthday.
●Do you have any partner(s)? (romantic, qpp, anything!): No.
●Fun facts about you / anything extra you wanna share!:
-I first started to write fanfictions on Wattpad... It was Assassination Classroom and Hetalia fanfictions.
-I once faked another identity on the Internet (French Wattpad) because my mother found my account and started looking at everything I posted there... In retrospect, I think she was trying to protect me.
-I have incredibly bad spending habits... Thankfully, I managed to find a solution to this, by taking pictures of what I consider buying, then taking time (can go from an hour to a year depending on the situation) to think about if I really want it, and when it's set in my mind, and if I can still buy it, I buy it.
-I had somewhat of a gap between my front teeth. Then I had to get my teeth fixed and now I don't have it anymore.
-I'm majoring in English and Mandarin Chinese languages. I'm also going to learn Korean soon... Did 2 years of Japanese back in middle school... I also did German for three years, but I remember nothing.
I'll tag people later... Sorry 😭
I got bored so here's a little get-to-know-you tag game I think could be fun :3
────────
Name(s): Loki (highly preferred), Elye
Pronouns : they/them mostly, he/she okay too
Fav. author: Alice Oseman
Hobbies: singing, acting, drawing, writing, procrastinating
Fav. fic type: Fluff, definitely. I am a sucker for well written coffee-shop and flower-shop aus, too. Smut's fine, but only if it's romantic. I can't do angst if there's no comfort.
Fav. Holiday: Hanukkah or Halloween! I love autumn and winter
Partners?: Yes! I have a girlfriend (queerplatonic) who I love very much, and a boyfriend (romantic) who I love very much :]
Fun facts:
- Even though I'm a cat person, I really, really want a dog.
- I actually used to play sports. Because I don't do gendered leagues anymore, I don't play, but I've been looking for mixed/gender-neutral/queer sports teams. Baseball and basketball specifically!
- I started questioning my identity in 2019; I'm no closer to finding a label now than I was then. The difference is, now I don't want a label. I just am. :]
Two-Faced Lie
This one is another of those randomly drawn from a hat kiss pairings, this time with the theme of 'blame' to work off of. All I can say about this is I don't write mystery but I tried. T__T I tried. Yeah, two detective conan/ yuyu hakusho crossovers in a row. ^_^;; Funny how things work.
summary: While trying to catcha demon criminal, Kurama gets blamed for murder. Shinichi’s not so sure he’s the culprit, despite the evidence.
alternative summary: Shinichi puts pieces together, but doesn't have a full picture to work from.
Yoko growled in the back of Kurama’s mind, the part of him that had been a thief free to do what he pleased pissed off at the current turn of events. Chasing down a demon like some sort of attack dog was frustrating enough, but they were running through the human world and the demon in question kept managing to slip into the most populated areas where Kurama couldn’t attack him openly.
Kurama sent a spike of youki to a nearby tree to try and discreetly catch the demon, but only managed to drive him to dive into the nearest store. Dammit. And Kurama had to follow, dodging shoppers as he went. Where…there! The demon was looking for a back way out, but seemed to have only managed to find the restrooms. Perfect.
The demon saw him coming and dove into the ladies room. Kurama didn’t even pause as he sped walked after him.
It was a two stall room with a tiny window in the upper half of the wall and a row of sinks along the side. More importantly, it was a dead end.
“There is nowhere to run to now, Reiki,” Kurama said. “You might as well turn yourself in.”
The demon bared needle teeth. “Like hell, spirit world scum!”
“Surely you didn’t think you could get away with trafficking human infants through the gate?” Kurama palmed his rose and a seed for a sticky vine that had a toxin that led to paralysis.
“No one wanted them!” the demon argued. “I was doing the world a favor!”
“The young souls you took would likely disagree.” Kurama’s youki flared down the rose at the same time the bathroom door opened. A woman walked in and stared. There was a half second pause as all parties took each other in before Reiki’s youki flared and nasty ice spikes javelined toward the woman. “No!” Kurama’s whip was out and flashing toward the ice even as the woman screamed.
Shards of ice cut Kurama’s cheek, melting away and spiking back up past his guard to stab the innocent bystander. Kurama caught her as she fell, her scream choking off with a gurgle. He bared his teeth toward where Reiki had been but the demon had shrunk himself and was slipping through a window that Kurama couldn’t follow him through. The woman’s blood soaked his arms as Kurama was caught between sending youki into every plant in a nearby radius in hopes to ensnare the damn demon and trying to stop the bleeding. It was kind of hopeless though; her neck had been caught in the spike, and Reiki had vanished his ice as he left leaving it to bleed too much too fast. Koenma was going to have Kurama’s hide for this. The twinge of guilt Kurama felt was secondary to anger at the moment though. He should have just hit him the second he walked through the bathroom door instead of trying to reason with him. Forget capture, the demon was dead when Kurama got his hands on him.
The bathroom door slammed open a second time, a teenage boy with piercing eyes taking in the scene and the woman now dead in Kurama’s arms.
Kurama looked between the body, the blood covering him, and the thorny rose whip still in his hand. “This looks rather damning doesn’t it?”
*
Minamino Shuichi was calm for someone being accused of murder. He answered all the police questions in a calm, polite manner and didn’t seem perturbed by the blood staining his clothing at all. That more than anything was a red flag. Even most murderers showed some kind of reaction to being questioned. Innocent bystanders tended to get upset, shocked by someone dying. Minamino showed nothing at all. Either Minamino ran into death as often as Shinichi did, or he was some sort of sociopath that didn’t experience empathy or sympathy for the deaths of others. It was unsettling.
All that said, Shinichi wasn’t convinced that Minamino was the murderer. There had been no one else in the bathroom, but the vine he had on him couldn’t have been the murder weapon. The vine would have more realistically been a strangling tool, or perhaps a sawing one if the thorns were raked back and forth, but the woman had been killed by something sharp and piercing, something that might have also hurt Minamino considering the cut on his face. But for all the questions asked and the time spent in the interrogation room, Minamino didn’t give a straight answer as to what had killed the woman or what exactly had led him to the woman’s restroom in the first place.
Minamino was first class at talking around answers.
Some of the blood on Minamino was on his back. Meaning he had had his back to the woman at some point as she was stabbed or dying. Potentially another point leading to Minamino not being the murderer. Add in the hand pressed against the woman’s throat that could have been an attempt to stop the bleeding. The open window in the bathroom—no one could have fit through there, but a weapon could have. There were so many pieces but none of the pieces fit.
Shinichi waited until Inspector Megure left to change places with another officer to put any words in himself. “You didn’t kill her, did you.” he said.
Minamino glanced at the cameras recording their interaction and gave Shinichi a polite smile. “It has been established that no one else could have possibly done it by this point,” he said. “I don’t think they would believe me even if I said otherwise.”
“You don’t have the murder weapon,” Shinichi said. “You tried to save her.”
“For all you know, I could have hidden it.” Minamino folded his hands on the table. They had been washed clean at least, though bloodstains lingered at his fingernails. “As for saving her, I could have been checking if she was dead.”
“It’s strange that you’re playing devil’s advocate for your own guilt.” It made no sense, but nothing Minamino had done so far had made sense either.
“Does that make you believe in my guilt or my innocence?” Minamino asked.
“I’m not sure yet,” Shinichi said, though he was leaning toward innocence. “Your reactions are all off.”
“I never was good at crying on command,” Minamino said, still with that same polite smile. “I am sorry that the woman died though. It shouldn’t have happened.”
“And what was supposed to happen?”
Minamino shrugged.
Shinichi sighed. He wouldn’t get anything more from him, would he.
“Do I at least get a phone call?” Minamino asked. “Since I am technically a minor. I suppose I should have demanded a lawyer too.”
“A bit late for that.” Shinichi glanced at the camera. “Your parents should be called though.”
“Ah. I am sure my mother will take that phone call well.” For the first time he had something other than blank politeness on his face, like his mother being called was something that he was actually unhappy about.
“I can make sure you get that phone call,” Shinichi said. While the police continued with their line of questioning here, Shinichi would check out the scene of the crime again…
*
Kurama didn’t bother with a phone call to his mother; she would be informed either way. Instead, he punched in a series of numbers that would connect him to Botan. Hopefully she could then get the word to Koenma and something could be done about this. He was annoyingly aware of the fact that this phone call was likely being recorded.
“Hey!” Botan chirped as she picked up the call. “How’s it going with—”
“Botan,” Kurama said, cutting her off firmly. “I’ve run into a bit of trouble with the police.”
“Police as in sit in a koen on the side of the road police or—”
“Yes, that sort of police. I’m currently being held for a murder I didn’t commit with very little circumstantial evidence to prove my innocence.” The same circumstantial evidence was being argued for his guilt after all. “I’m afraid I won’t be able to do that favor you asked from me. Someone else is going to have to find that cat.”
He could tell by the pause on the other end that Botan was trying to put together what he meant. Kurama felt his patience slipping away bit by bit. “Oh, well, I’m sure I can find someone else to find it,” she said, finally getting both what he meant and the need to censor themselves. “Do you need legal help?”
“While I am sure that would be prudent, I’m not sure—”
“Great! I’ll just head over your way!”
“Botan,” Kurama said with a sinking feeling.
“Don’t worry, we’ll get you out of this mess!”
“Bo—” The phone clicked. “…tan.” Kurama closed his eyes and indulged in a few seconds of irritation. Botan was going to make everything worse. She still didn’t get how the human world functioned sometimes, why would police or legal systems be any different? He let out a slow breath. Well. There was only so many ways things could go worse from here. He hung up the receiver and turned to the police officer watching him with deep suspicion. “I think I am done with my phone call.” He’d just have to see how this turned out.
The department store bathroom was cordoned off with caution tape, as undisturbed as possible with the body removed. Evidence markers littered the space. Shinichi took note of them and the room at large. Minamino had been crouched near the door, the woman’s body half in his arms, half sprawled on the tile floor. It was directly across from the open window. The blood had pooled and half dried by now, seeping away from where the body had sat, but there were trace smears where flecks had spattered either from impact of the weapon or its removal. Strangely, traces had been found scattered beyond the range of the rest of them, and small pools of water here and there. Shinichi had noticed them earlier, but he paid attention to them now. Where had the water come from? The sinks were dry, the toilets showed no sign of overflow. It hadn’t been raining either.
That was the first oddity. The second were the dents and scratches on the back of the bathroom door and a few places on the wall. There was even a gouge in the paint. They could have been old, but the chips of paint on the floor and the faint traces of blood found around one of the spots indicated otherwise. It was like something had shattered there.
There was the window where there was a small puddle outside the sill on an otherwise dry day. Three days since the last rain storm with no reason it should exist.
Witnesses claimed Minamino had jogged into the store and straight to the bathroom. And then what? He’d supposedly killed the first person to walk in after that? It made no sense. But Minamino had also been seen glancing around as he moved, like he was trying to figure out where something had gone. Either that or escape? No one who was trying to escape would run for a dead end bathroom though. Not unless Minamino had thought there would be a way out…
The open window was a possibility. But even if Minamino was on the slim side, it wouldn’t have been an easy fit. But if there was someone else in there, someone smaller than Minamino?
The problem with that thought was that no one else had been seen entering the bathroom.
It was just really hard to believe that someone would run into a bathroom, stab the first person to enter with a vanishing weapon, then try to stop the bleeding. No, it looked more like there had been a fight of some sort here, possibly with someone escaping out the window.
If he could find proof…
Shinichi circled around outside to the other side of the window. There the puddle was more obvious along with a thin smear of blood that was entirely out of place. From the murder weapon? Or had the hypothetical second person been injured? He frowned at the spot and—there, a faint outline of a footprint. Proof that, yes, someone had gone out the window. As for the murder weapon… with the water scattered about, the only thing that was coming to mind was ice. But how much ice, where had it come from, and how had it melted so fast if it really was ice that had killed her?
For now though, he had the proof to point out the possibility of another subject.
When Kurama heard someone had come for him, he was half expecting his mother. He tried not to let irritation show on his face as Botan waved cheerfully. Behind her was Kuwabara for some reason.
“…And you’re a legal representative for Minamino-san,” one of the detectives said skeptically. He looked at Botan’s bright teal hair and her short, trendy jacket. “And him?” he said, nodding to Kuwabara.
“He’s here for moral support,” Botan said. “Now I hear Minamino-san is here under suspicion of murder…”
Kurama tuned her out as Kuwabara sidled over. Kurama raised an eyebrow at the smothered smirk on Kuwabara’s face. “What’s so amusing?”
“Wow, Kurama,” Kuwabara said in his best attempt at a whisper, “not even Yuusuke and I ever got in trouble with the cops. Looks like your goody two shoes reputation kinda got ruined. Kinda always thought it’d be Yuusuke that got arrested.”
“I’m a suspect, not a proven guilty party,” Kurama said.
“Yeah, ya kinda look like a murderer right now.” Kuwabara held up a bag. “Brought you a change of clothes. They’re mine so they’re a bit big, but better than covered in blood.”
“How thoughtful. However did you guess I would need them?”
“You’re always the messiest when things go to shit,” Kuwabara said.
Kurama snorted softly and accepted the bag of clothes. What he was wearing would likely be taken as evidence. A pity. He’d have to buy a new school uniform again.
“Oh and the runt’s taking care of the lost cat,” Kuwabara said.
Hiei was probably hating that. Who better to send after an ice demon than a demon of heat and flame though?
“Best of luck to him with that. It’s not a very nice cat.”
Kuwabara shrugged. They’d all faced worse than Reiki at one point or another. He leaned close, face scrunching up a bit more seriously. “The lady that died…”
“An unlucky victim to poor timing,” Kurama murmured back. “I blocked part of the attack, but…”
“Hey, not your fault,” Kuwabara said. He was the only one of the group that would have bothered to reassure Kurama over something like this. “You tried.”
“Trying didn’t save any lives today.” Kurama was more affected by the twinge of human conscience that said he should care about the life lost than the actual death, but Kuwabara did care about this sort of thing, so the sentiment was appreciated.
“Now that your legal advocate is here,” the police officer said giving Botan a skeptical once over yet again, “perhaps you’ll be willing to go over everything again?”
Kurama sighed. “Fine.”
“Wait!” Kudo Shinichi said from the doorway. He looked like he’d been running around for a while. “I’d like to be there too.”
“Kudo-san,” the officer who’d questioned him earlier said sounding a mixture of resigned and reluctant.
“I have some information your analysts missed.”
“Of course you do,” the officer muttered, too quiet for anyone but Kurama and perhaps Botan to hear.
Minamino had been joined by a young woman with teal hair and another red head—of no relation from the looks of it—who could have been an average street punk. Not the sort of people Shinichi had expected Minamino to have connections with considering his unerring politeness and reserve the whole time he had been at the station. It was a detail filed away though. Shinichi strode with confidence into the interrogation room. He had the scene figured out for the most part, but there were still gaps in understanding. Why had Minamino been chasing whoever he fought in the bathroom? Why had the opponent used lethal force? Where had the ice come from? Why did Minamino have a vine?
Hopefully Minamino would fill those gaps in.
“Let’s try this again,” Megure-keibu said. “Earlier you claimed to be looking for something. Do you have anything to add to this?”
Shinichi cut in before Minamino could answer. “Keibu, may I?”
Megure-keibu sighed. “If you think it will help.”
Minamino-san,” Shinichi said. He could feel the shift in the room, the focus of eyes on him as always happened when he put things together. “You were seen today running down the street before ducking into a departments store and going almost straight to the back of the store. You claimed to be looking for something, but it’s interesting to note that some of the witnesses have vague memories of not just seeing you, but another person as well.” It had taken Shinichi a while, but he had tracked down several people who had been in shops nearby or workers in the store. Half of them had the memory of Minamino following someone, the other half seemed to have only noticed Minamino. Shinichi was willing to bet that between the two suspects, Minamino was the more noticeable with his bright hair and uniform. “Today you weren’t just looking for something, you were looking for someone, someone who did not want to be found. You chased them through Tokyo before following them into the store and guessed that they intended to go out the back. Only they went into the bathroom instead. You followed them into the ladies’ room and confronted them, but the person reacted violently. You defended yourself from the attack only for someone else to enter the bathroom, our unfortunate victim. The other suspect attacked her to distract you. You tried to defend, but the attack got through. While you tried to stop the victim from bleeding out, the murderer escaped through the bathroom window. Correct?” Shinichi smiled grimly at the single raised eyebrow on Minamino’s face. He’d gotten some kind of reaction through Minamino’s impassive façade.
“Kudo-kun,” Megure-keibu said, voice tight. “Are you sure that it’s possible for there to have been another person? The window in the bathroom—”
“Is small. I know. The person in question couldn’t have been very big. But Minamino could have fit through that window, and so could I with some effort. There are a lot of people smaller than both of us out there.” Shinichi watched Minamino’s expression. “Did I get it wrong?”
“You got the general idea of what happened,” Minamino said. “Impressive. I did follow someone into the bathroom, and I did try to stop the woman from bleeding, which let him escape.”
“Why were you chasing him?” Kudo asked.
Minamino pursed his lips. “Cats.” Both his legal advisor and friend gave him a weird look. Minamino gave them a look back. “A friend’s cat went missing. I was helping him look for it and in the process found out that the man had an illegal pet trade going on.”
“With cats,” Shinichi said doubtfully.
Minamino shrugged. “Cats. And quite a few more exotic things than that. Some of which he smuggled.”
Megure-keibu looked pained. “You decided to confront a smuggler rather than call the police.”
“I just wanted my friend’s cat back,” Minamino said. “Clearly he didn’t think that was all I wanted.”
“Where did he get the murder weapon?” Shinichi asked. “It was ice, wasn’t it?”
“Ice?” Megure-keibu asked.
“He’s an ice supplier,” Kurama said.
“…and big freezers would be easy enough to smuggle things around in.” Didn’t explain why the guy would choose a large ice shard to attack with rather than something more sensible like a knife that wouldn’t melt in the warmth of Tokyo’s spring weather. But it was explainable where he could have gotten it from.
“Kudo-kun,” Megure-keibu said, a demand.
“He isn’t the murderer,” Shinichi said. “He did get caught up in something he shouldn’t have, but he isn’t the one who actually killed the woman. If you notice the blood stains on his clothes, the woman was behind him when she initially was stabbed, meaning he tried to keep her from being hurt. Unfortunately, he must not have been able to block a strike. The rest of the blood is on his front since after that, he tried to keep her from bleeding out. Your killer is still out there.”
There was a scuffle outside the interrogation room and everyone turned toward the door a moment before it burst open. A short man dressed in black had a death grip on a second man only a bit taller than him. Behind them Takagi had a hand outstretched.
“You can’t just burst in there!” Takagi said.
“I got your stupid cat,” the man in black said in Minamino’s direction. “And this asshole.” He shook the man in his grasp. “He has some talking to do.”
On the side of the table, Minamino smiled. A real smile and not the polite one from earlier. It was warm and just a bit dangerous in a way that Shinichi couldn’t look away from. Minamino looked at his interrogators. “Well. That solves the problem of finding the murderer.”
“How…?” Megure-keibu gaped.
The murderer in question struggled, swearing, but the shorter man didn’t seem to have any problem holding him still. “This is all your fault,” the murderer snarled in Kurama’s direction. “If you’d just died properly earlier—”
“And there is your confession,” Minamino said. “Or part of it.” He cocked his head to the side. Silent communication happened between the man holding the murderer and Minamino before Minamino nodded. “I suppose you’ll want to question him now?”
“…yes,” Megure-keibu said. “I…thank you for your patience.” He glanced at the man who had brought the murderer in. “I’ll need a statement from you as well.”
The man’s lip curled in distaste. “Fine.”
“Great!” the supposed legal advisor said with a cheery smile. “I guess I won’t be needed here after all!”
“…Right.” Megure-keibu shook his head. “Kudo-kun could you escort them out? I think we have their official statements by this point.”
“Of course.”
Well. That was a long and frustrating day. Kurama owed Hiei one now. How they would manage to have Reiki tried as a human and then get him to the spirit world, Kurama wasn’t going to ask. That was someone else’s problem now. He still had to go home and calm his mother down too… At least Botan hadn’t actually had to try to give him legal advice. Kurama probably knew more than she did on that subject.
The teen detective, Kudo, looked pensive as they left the police building. “I’m still wondering how he thought he was going to get away with murdering someone in broad daylight,” Kudo said, noticing Kurama watching him.
“Well, he did a fair job at pinning it on me,” Kurama said. Now that the deduction was over, Kudo seemed much younger. All the more so with how he kept glancing at Kurama like he was still missing pieces to his puzzle. Well, that and like Kurama was interesting, which he would take as a compliment. Kurama smiled warmly at him. He hadn’t missed the Kudo’s earlier reaction when he smiled at Hiei. “Thank you for clearing my name,” Kurama said. Kudo looked down and away, unable to meet his eyes. It was amusing how easily people could be flustered by Kurama’s appearance, this time was no exception.
“Ugh,” Kuwabara groaned. “Stop staring like you’re going to kiss him and let’s go. It’s weird.”
Mischief sparked in Kurama’s eyes. Well, if Kuwabara was going to phrase it like that… “I really do appreciate it,” Kurama said to Kudo, laying the gratitude on thicker than he actually felt. He leaned forward and gave Kudo a peck on the cheek, hiding a smile as both Kudo and Kuwabara sputtered. Botan laughed into her hands, hiding her grin. “Maybe we’ll meet on better terms next time.”
Kudo gaped, one hand riding to touch where he’d been kissed. “Uh. Goodbye?”
Kuwabara pointed at Kurama and shouted, “Holy shit, why didn’t you ever say you liked guys?!”
“I was expressing gratitude; attraction doesn’t figure into it,” he said, picture of serene as he turned away.
“I knew there was something up with your girly tunics! Wait—you’re not into me are you?”
Kurama rolled his eyes. “Kuwabara. None of you are to my taste.”
“Wait, then what is your taste?”
“I can guess,” Botan said, still laughing.
Kurama kept walking. If Kuwabara got too annoying, he would direct the conversation to Yukina and hopefully the topic would never come up again. He’d gotten off without murder on his human record, Reiki had been caught, and while the woman was still dead, at least Kurama could go home to his mother tonight. Not a terrible day after all.
3. Dub or Sub
I kinda like both! (And the new English dub, too!)
Tumblr media
If forced to choose just *one* though I'd go with the sub.
7. OTP
I have several, in fact:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
14. How long have you been in the fandom?
I wouldn't really consider myself in the dcmk fandom, actually! Largely because I sort of equate 'being in a fandom' as producing fan works and I haven't done too much of that.
15. Already Answered!
28. Something you love about the fandom
I'm not too familiar with the wider fandom but I do appreciate the general consensus that the best way to consume Detective Conan is via memes and there are some EXCELLENT memes, lemme tell ya. XD
34. If you met Gosho Aoyama, what would you say to him?
It would probably be a lot of nervous, incoherent mumbling along with a genuine 'thank you' in there, somewhere. XD
