i just remember sitting through spuffy and hating/loving it and idk I don't think I could go through that emotional roller coaster again

i think it bears more resemblance to if spike and buffy had started a relationship only after he got a soul, and without buffy being all post-post-mortem depression, so I don't think you'll have to.

captain swan seems to be largely about trust, which is a big theme in season 7 (post soul) spuffy.

and judging by the fact that the captain swan relationship didn't start out with fighting leading to house-destroying sex i think we're okay

oh god I like captain swan is this bad oh no

it's not bad! at least not necessarily bad. spike/buffy is one of my favourite ships but at times it was extremely (and i mean extremely) fucked up. captain swan shares a lot of traits with spuffy but it looks like it's going to be a lot less dark than spuffy.

basically they share the dynamic and some of the details without the context/history that made it so brutal on buffy, if that makes sense.

given that it's once upon a time though i doubt they'll go down that road in ten million years anyway so don't worry
