Nao didn't exactly know why the higher-ups even decided to keep the around. After seeing the things they have seen, the things many angels were kept completely ignorant about, almost as if the forbidden fruit was forced into their mouth, Nao thought that it wouldn't take long before the angels decided to get rid of them. It wasn't like Nao was particularly dangerous, but it wasn't like they were very friendly and compliant. They were like an error in a code that could never be fixed. And what was the best thing to do in such a case? Delete that code altogether. Perhaps the only reason they were still here was thanks to Zachariel, it was the only way they could explain it. And although they didn't really get why the other kept them under his care, they still appreciated that act of kindness they missed for too long.
"Oh, really?" They raised their eyebrows slightly, surprised at Zachariel's words. Sure, they already knew the archangel could be quite stern when needed, but he didn't really strike them as the type to start physical fights up until now. "Who?" Maybe they were a tad bit curious.

the angels knew better than to touch or try to argue with nao too much since zachariel was the one to come back. not only was he one of their seraphs, he was one of the apocalyptic angels. he held more power than even he enjoyed mentioning. of course, zachariel wouldn't let a tyrant run through his cradle and through heaven - but he wouldn't silence a child who had a voice and who was right. it was too often in their past that someone would silence another despite their right. he couldn't help it if he found this small little half-ling now, starting to pick a fight with the elders. it was like a small dog ready to bite someone's ankles.
clearing his throat from the laugh and the shit-eating grin that was attempting to come forth, zachariel nodded in agreement towards nao's rage. " believe me, kid. i get it more than you think. there's been many times where i've wanted to - and have, punched one of those idiots in the face. " did he face the consequences? sure, but he found it worth it at the end of the day.

"Then you should do it more often." They hummed as they were organizing some stuff, mostly records of people's memories. Perhaps if Nao hadn't been through the shit that they had they would have stayed the same as everybody else, just following orders, doing one's job and not questioning it too much, not trying to cause a ruckus. But after facing hell, after barely making it out alive, Nao could see how absurd that was, how pointless it would be if they did just that. And it wasn't like they had anything to lose. Like, what's the worst thing the angels could do to them? Rip out the only wing left on their back after they ripped out the other one by themselves and then kick them out of Heaven? The angels couldn't cause them more pain than what they'd already experienced. And if they straight-up kill Nao? That would simply be a sweet relief for them. "It's so irritating when they act all high and mighty when they can't even hold a proper argument and don't know what's going on down with the humans. You know how hard it is for me to not punch them in the face?"
@r3dblccd wanted another starter. random cheese of truth chose: zachariel for his cynical angel.

"you know, not a lot of us argue with the elders anymore." no one really argued with each other much after lucifer fell, or what happened between gabriel and raphael. so much blood and hurt so close together, everyone learned to hold their tongues, and if they couldn't, they'd take it to the training grounds and fight it out properly - not messy, dirty; but fair and they'd make peace with each other. even zachariel kept his mouth shut during their meetings and jury. he let out a very rare laugh, reaching to lightly pat nao atop their head and ruffle their hair. "it's not a bad thing, the old bastards need to learn that times have changed sometimes. they're not always right."
