Want to connect with people in a better way? Our cognitive biases (mental blockages) can distort our understanding about a situation, a circumstance, or a person. We see the world that comes from our understanding of life, our filters in our brain that guide our understanding. One filter that can make a huge difference in our understanding, is our experiences of life, Pain and Pleasure. This one filter alone can create mental blockages that can prevent us from seeing the reality or having clarity. If you knew better, what would you choose? How would you connect with someone, if you had better clarity? #connection #connections #connectbetter #effortless #genuine #genuineconnections #mentalblock #mentalblocks #cognitivebehaviouraltherapy #cognitivepsychology #cognitivedevelopment #single #single #singleguy #singlegirls #singlewomen #singleman #singlemum #singledad #singlemomlife #singledadlife #divorceddad #divorcedmom https://www.instagram.com/p/CpPKmTpvDah/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A “Resume’s” Value?
This is not a blog about how to write a top-notch resume.  I am probably the last person to ask and there are professionals out there that put together some incredibly ones from what I’ve seen.  These days, I’ve notice kids coming out of college putting their resume or skillsets, in form of video or vlog and sending it over to prospective employers. My oldest daughter, a senior in high school, has her YouTube channel up and going for college scouts.  I myself created a YouTube channel as well, not to share my expertise on writing resumes 😊, but to share the podcast and other videos we plan on producing in the future.  Things have definitely changed over the years; therefore, we have to change and adapt.
I understand the purpose of resumes.  I get it and we must understand, from a piece of paper, what a person’s background, experience, and expertise may be prior to getting to know them further and potentially investing in them.  As a business, a school, a sports team, etc., there is that investment. In life, that is what we do, we invest in one another to help us become who we want to become. Do we truly understand someone though from that piece of paper, or video?  No, right! Those tools get us in the door and then it is up to us to shine and tell our story.  How often or the “right one’s” passed over because of a resume?
As I said, this isn’t about the purpose of a resume. It is more about building our skills and talents go get us closer to who we want to become.  The resume piece was sparked by a thought that I heard from Tom Bilyeu during his podcast recently.
“You don’t learn new skill to build a resume. You do it to get you closer to the person you want to become.”
Pause for effect.  I am confident in saying that there is a lot of stuff that most of us could, maybe even should, put on our resumes’ but we don’t.  My personal opinion, and maybe I am very wrong, but I am not sure people care too much about a blog or podcast I started when going in to interview for a job.  I might be naïve, but I would think the only reason they would have an interest to ensure I am not a crazy person (something that should again be validate by meeting face to face 😊)!  We tend to want to “build our resume” to prove to others, not even ourselves in some cases, that we are worthy.  That could be worth of a job, of a partner, worthy of being a parent, or of status.   What a piece of paper says should be the last of our concerns.  Again, I get it, we need to get our foot in the door. However, if we are on a path of building skillsets and treasures to become the person we are truly meant to be, won’t that position, career, job, thing that we are supposed to do – present itself? Well, that can be a little hocus pocus, unicorn, and rainbow stuff, but there is some truth to it.  Going back to a prior post, we can’t just sit on our butts and “hope” or wish it to happen, we must put in the work.
If that work is helping us develop new skills, talents, and expertise; if that work is pushing us beyond our comfort levels and helping us grow and learn, isn’t it safe to think that we are headed in a good direction? We are going to get punched in the face many times along that journey but if our efforts are closely in line with our passion, aka - who we want to become, are we toeing the right line? I believe we are.
Our value doesn’t come from something that is listed on a piece of paper or published in a video.  Unfortunately however, we must use those tools to get us in the door. To get that introduction or to get us that five minutes of time with the person that is supposed to be the gatekeeper to our future.  I understand that process and the world we live in; I just don’t like that process any more.  Actually, I never did.  Not talking about the resume process here……………………………
Talking about how we can pass judgement on each other without ever sitting down and genuinely getting to understand each other’s story.

Pam Rankel’s Journey to Loss and Healing
Life challenges us in different ways. While some seem to sail smoothly through life in a breeze, others are met by one tumultuous storm after another. Hang tight because today’s special guest for The Ripple Effect Podcast will take us on an emotional cruise through life and all its sides — the good and the ugly. After listening to her story, our special guest will restore your faith in humanity.
So, who’s our awe-inspiring guest?
Pam Rankel shares a deeply personal and inspiring story of overcoming tragedy, loss, and the journey to healing. Having faced unimaginable hardships, she recounts the pivotal moments of her life that turned pain into strength, transforming a story of sorrow into one of resilience.
Pam Rankel has experienced things that no one in this world deserves to. She survived s**ual abuse from a doctor in an unsupervised appointment and physical abuse from a person who’s supposed to love and protect her — her husband. After freeing herself from this abusive relationship, she tried to dip her toe into the dating pool. Instead of finding the love she deserves, she experiences the anxiety-inducing feeling of being pursued by a dangerous stalker. Pam also has to endure the grief that comes with losing a son in labor and another son, Micheal, in an accident.
“I’ve always wished I could have saved my own children, but I couldn’t. Maybe, though, I could save someone else’s,” Pam said.
Pam Rankel saved a young man’s life by donating her healthy kidney. The donee, Cole Derry, is the same age as her surviving son, Ryan.
Pam’s inspiring story was featured on several media platforms, such as the Vancouver Sun and Global News, and is in the talks for a film adaptation.
After all Pam has been through, she found her way back to joy, compassion, humor, and gratitude. She is now on a quest to help others with similar experiences overcome abuse, grief, addiction, and trauma through “A Course in Miracles” life coaching.
Pam is a real-life superhero, and I’m so thankful to have met her. She has inspired me in so many ways, and I strongly believe that the world deserves to hear her story.

Exploring the Field of Dreams with Ben Orlando
Today, we are lucky to have Ben Orlando on the podcast! Ben Orlando is a Therapist, a Podcaster, an Educator, a Writer, and an incredible human being. He received his MFA in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh.
Using podcasts as the medium to express his creativity, Ben Orlando started a podcast called “History Repeating Itself.” In it, he and his co-host, Michelle, uncover the connections between the past and the present, making predictions based on historical patterns and cultural trends.
However, he rediscovered his buried passion for baseball when he started reading fiction novels about it over the summer. Ben traveled back to the good old days of collecting baseball cards and hanging baseball posters on the walls. This led him to create another podcast called “Midnight Library of Baseball.”
As a sport-thusiast, I have been binge-listening and enjoying the calm, chill vibe of his show. Whether you play baseball, are an avid fan, or have a curious itch about this sport, this is the perfect podcast for you!
In this The Ripple Effect Podcast episode, Ben and I took the plunge into the world of baseball by discussing “Field of Dreams,” a 1989 movie based on the novel Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella. The story follows Ray, an Iowa farmer who builds a baseball diamond in his cornfield after hearing a voice say, “If you build it, he will come.” This leads to the emergence of legendary baseball players' ghosts to play the game.
As Ben and I went deep into the “Field of Dreams” rabbit hole, we conversed about family, relationships, and the importance of connecting with your own feelings.
This is something you shouldn't miss!
Explore Ben Orlando’s work: Midnight Library of Baseball: https://www.midnightlibraryofbaseball.com/ History Repeating Itself: https://www.historyrepeatingitself.com/
This episode is a result of the power of Rippling with a podcast guest I eventually struck a good friendship with — Brian Benson.
