you could always watch them in chronological order but my recommendation is to start with

1. x men first class (1960s found family team building origin story set during the Cold War)

2. you could watch days of future past immediately after BUT it’s technically an inverse fix it to the original trilogy (x men 1, 2, 3) and I would suggest at least watching one and two

3. THEN dive into days of future past (my favorite x men movie) so the ending has more weight

4. logan 2017 (have ur tissues ready) & Deadpool 1 & 2 if you haven’t seen them already

5. THEN once ur comfy in the universe and attached to the characters and quality won’t scare u off…… wolverine origins (I don’t hate this one as much as other ppl do tbh. maybe bc remy flirts w logan idk tho), apocalypse, and at the very least the last five minutes of dark phoenix so u can see the cherik cafe scene

X-men finale reaction...

OMG, hell yes. This was epic, this was a triumph and looking at all of the ten episodes together, THE best X-men adaptation ever. It did honor to the source material and was the best decision to keep it in the 90s and not modernize it And it took it beyond and super deep. The music was epic- I want the soundtrack or would attend a live concert of the music. Then the plot and fan service done to the viewers was chef's kiss perfection. There may be detractors out there and I may come down from this cloud and be able to nitpick but not now. I'm too excited and thrilled.

Firstly, I love that Disney is promoting X-men on the main page and was the first thing I saw when I opened the app. Yes, Disney! Disney/Marvel, congrats. You helped create a masterpiece of modern storytelling that revived an old almost forgotten piece of comic cartoon history and pulled it into the modern age. It was perfect timing and us old fans who grew up on TAS was thirsting after, but you also brought in new viewers and viewers like my husband who could care less about cartoon superheroes. But the storylines were compelling and the writing was deep, X-men 97 deserves its flowers. (Spoilers ahead).

Secondly, the writing and character development in this episode was fan service, it was perfection, and it was very well written. Starting with Cherik which I had some objections to last week due to feeling that Xavier was being holier than thou and not understanding Erik. But in this episode seeing the lengths that Xavier would go for Erik melted my heart. I still have some thoughts about Erik "making his X-men turn on each other" as I feel that they are grownups with their own minds, but the rest of the episode with Xavier cradling Erik and willing to go down with the ship with him is gold. Then they busted out the Badass X-women and I loved it! I am a huge Rogue fan and they did right by her- she was accepted back into the team no questions asked and she was so fierce. I teared up when she attacked Bastion with the "Remember it" line and I loved the whole team stepping up, working together to battle Bastion. I also loved the Cable/Scott/Jean storyline and we even got some Morpherine!

Thirdly, some of my predictions came true! I predicted in a previous post that the Avengers and other Marvel characters would make cameos in the finale and I was right! It was a veritable who's who of Marvel characters and I cackled in delight when they popped up! Predictably, Iron Man and Captain America were in the White House with the President. I knew that they weren't sitting out on this one! Then we saw Daredevil, Silver Samurai, Black Panther and Dora Milaje, Psylocke and many more!

Last but certainly not least, Apocalypse and more importantly DEATHBIT! As a ROMY shipper, I squeed so much at this! The fans have been dreaming about this since ep 5 as it gives us even a sliver of having some part of Gambit back and now it's confirmed with that Queen of Hearts cliffhanger. Oooh yes! Even if it's not the Real Remy back, just having Deathbit and a glimmer of Remy back in the storyline is juicy and desired indeed. There are a LOT of Romy and Gambit fans out there and this satisfies us and has us wanting more. Even if it's crazy and complicated, fans are going to eat up a Deathbit storyline, so yes please! And beyond Gambit, Apocalypse is a badass villain- kudos for the writers going here. Comic and Cartoon fans alike can agree that time travel is interesting and will come up with many cool, fascinating new storylines.

I can't wait until Season 2, but until then I will be rewatching the finale a million times. I am so glad that the writers understood the assignment and gave us this masterpiece. It calmed my Romy heart, gave us amazing battle sequences, had fun Marvel cameos, and perfectly set up next season.

But I had a similar story where someone reblogged a cherik post and I vaguely recognised them from having watched dark Phoenix. I rewatched the movies and it was a downwards spiral from there.

in the x-men universe every year dozens of postgrads in mutant studies publish papers about how disastrous cherik divorces are for the global mutant rights struggle just to guilt trip charles and erik into sorting their shit out and going to couple's therapy rather than splitting up (again)

i'm assuming you don't know this since you didn't mention it, but that is literally what happened to iron man and captain america lmao. in earth-3490 tony is a woman and married to steve (which is canonically why civil war didn't happen in that universe). they even shared a panel with cherik once (as seen here)

i laughed when i opened this and was going to rate it 10/10 on the misinformation scale and i clicked the link expecting a rick roll but lo and behold this is all. actually real! i turned into surprised pikachu for a moment so still 10/10 this time for telling the truth. i would say i cant believe comics writers would do this but i absolutely can. congrats to comics stevetony shippers for getting a heterosexual version of their ship for 3 seconds

Congrats on your milestone!!! I really loved the fic you and fatcatsarecats started writing with cherik and charpocalypse, based on kianspo's angsty premise. I would LOVE to see a continuation of that, or anything with Charpocalypse if you were so inclined :D (Oh and I don't have a specific prompt in mind; I just love Apoc seducing Charles in some fashion, and I'm fine with Charles already in a relationship being seduced lol...) Charles/En Sabah Nur, past Charles/Erik, warnings for infidelity and emotional manipulation

En isn’t due back until late that night, and Charles spends the hours vacillating wildly between pacing the length of their shared house and trying to bury himself in his work. He fucked up. He fucked up badly, there’s no getting around that. He’ll tell En the truth, of course, that was never in question – but it doesn’t make the wait any easier to bear.

(And yet… And yet, he can’t shake off the feeling that all of this was a test. But that’s not very fair, is it? Even if En had sent him to Erik as a test, it’s Charles’ own fault for failing that test in such a spectacular manner. It’s really nobody’s fault but his.)

He must have dozed off without realizing it, because the next thing Charles knows, he’s jolting awake to the feeling of a blanket being draped over him. En.

Charles is half-sitting, half-lying on the couch, some of his papers lying scattered on the floor – he must have dropped them in his sleep without realizing. En is standing over him, the downy blanket still partially in his grip. There’s a smile on his face. Charles smiles back, but it comes out weak and strained.

“You’re home.” He sits up, rubbing his eyes. “What time is it?”

“Late.” En’s voice is a low, measured rumble. Dark as molasses, Charles had always thought – the sort of voice he can’t help but want to sink into, wrap himself up in. “We should go to bed.”

Charles is not a saint. He is tired, his heart aching with loss and fear and anger. It’s very tempting to allow En to help him up, pull him into a kiss, and sweep him off to bed. He only has to close his eyes and let it happen.

But he can’t.

“En…” He draws in a deep breath, running a hand through his hair. If he doesn’t tell En now, he never will. “We need to talk.”

En watches him, his eyes dark and fathomless. “It can wait, I’m sure. It’s very late.”

Charles huffs out a noise that isn’t quite a laugh. “You’ve always made it very hard to say no.” He shakes his head. “We really do need to talk, En.”

En chuckles lowly. “And it’s equally hard to say no to you,” he says. He settles on the couch next to Charles, the very picture of quiet confidence. “Talk to me, Charles. What is troubling you?”

Charles had spent all night rehearsing this conversation in his head. It’s almost a relief that the time had finally come to have this confrontation in the real world. He takes another deep breath, willing the calm of absolute focus to fall on him. “I went to Erik earlier today. Things went rather – differently, compared to what I had planned. I’m so sorry. There’s no good way to say this. I wasn’t faithful to you. I deeply regret it, and if you wish to sever all ties with me, I will of course leave right away.”

There is, of course, the temptation to grovel. To beg for forgiveness, for another chance, it will never happen again, I promise. But he’s made his choices. Now he must live with the consequences.

For several long seconds, En is silent. Not angry, no, he’s not someone quick to move to anger, but his expression is stern and forbidding.

“Do you want to leave?” He asks at last.

“No!” The denial bursts from Charles before he can contain himself. He shakes his head, forcing himself to calm. “No.”

“Then you’ll stay with me,” En says firmly. His fingers rest against the underside of Charles’ chin, tilting his head up. “I am disappointed. Very disappointed. But, I confess, your infidelity does not surprise me.”

“What?”

“You and Erik Lehnsherr had the sort of bond that comes once in a lifetime. That much is plain to anyone who knows the two of you. It was inevitable that you would succumb to it, although I had hoped otherwise. Human nature is what it is.”

Now is hardly the time for a philosophical debate, but Charles shakes his head anyway. “No. There’s no excuse for my actions. Human nature or not, I should have been better than that. Erik – Erik was right about me.” And isn’t it ironic, that Erik should be the one to lead him into the very crime he had accused Charles of?

“Erik Lehnsherr was a fool blind to the facts in front of him.” En’s gaze remained locked on his. “If he truly knew you, he would never have believed the accusations levied against you.”

“Erik is…” Charles stops, biting his lip. Even now, his first instinct is to leap to Erik’s defence. Will that ever fade, he wonders? “This isn’t about Erik.”

“It is,” En counters. “But if you would rather not talk about him, I will respect your decision.”

“I just don’t understand how you can be so calm about all of this.” When he compares En’s reaction to Erik’s…

“It is as I said. I am disappointed, but your decisions were not unexpected.” En cups Charles’ head in his hands, bending down to press a kiss against his forehead. His lips are warm. “You love him.”

Charles closes his eyes. “I thought I did.”

“You love him,” En repeats. “But love on its own isn’t enough.”

“…No. It wasn’t.”

En kisses his forehead again. “I think you learnt that tonight, or you would not have returned to me.”

An uneasy chill settles over Charles. He can’t resist giving voice to his earlier suspicions. “You were the one who asked me to talk to Erik. Was it all a test?”

“Charles…” En draws back, looking disappointed. “Do you think so little of me? I urged you to speak with Erik because you needed to find resolution. That, I cannot offer you.”

Chastened, Charles’ gaze drops to the ground, but he can’t quite quell his nagging doubts. “Terribly selfless of you.”

“I do care for you,” En says quietly, grave. “Ours is no fairytale romance, but I find our arrangement enjoyable. I would like to see you flourish, Charles. But only if you can leave the past where it lies.”

He doesn’t know if he believes in En, but Charles relents for now, too tired and heartsick to argue any further. “I won’t go back to him again, if that’s what you’re asking. It’s over.”

It’s been over since the night Erik threw him out. Charles had simply failed to accept it until tonight. He doesn’t protest as En gathers him close again, pressing a final kiss to his lips.

“Let’s go to bed.”

For Charles, the first thing he notices is, well, everything. I have always headcanoned that the moment he meets a person and feels the shape of their mind, he KNOWS them. Not in the sense of knowing everything about them, but their character, who they are at their core, what kind of person they are. So, when Charles is still on the ship and feels Erik out there, he KNOWS Erik. Knows that he is an incredibly special individual who is worth jumping into the ocean for without a second thought. When he enters Erik’s mind in the ocean and gets an overview of his past, this clinches it and from that moment forward, he loves Erik. Completely and, for better or worse, unconditionally.

As for Erik... after he gets past the initial shock, the first thing he notices about Charles is his inherent goodness. The kind of goodness he probably thought was a myth, right up there with unicorns and Atlantis. This complete stranger jumped into the fucking ocean to save his life and promised him he would never be alone again. Moreover, this man is like HIM, a mutant. This makes him absolutely fascinated with Charles and very quickly in love with him (even if he can’t initially recognize the emotion/is in denial).

5. A ship everyone in the fandom you’re in loves, but you can’t stand?

I just don’t give a fuck about shipping, so this is hard to answer. Closest I can get is that Scemma seems pretty popular and I’ve never liked it. Can’t say I like Scott/Jean, Rogue/Gambit, or Rogue/Magneto much either. I’m not sure I’m actually into ANY canon ships, now that I think about it. I’m not AGAINST Cherik per se (not into it but I can see it) but I really fucking hate FANDOM Cherik, it makes me cringe into infinity with all these really gross super-heternormative tropes and infantilizing Charles and reducing them both down to two-dimensional Kawai Helpless Blushing Ball of Sunshine ugguuu and his Big Angry Manly Man yaoi stock tropes and god I could just puke at like 90% of the fanwork for it that I’m unfortunate enough to stumble across. Congrats, you found my one strong shipping/anti-shipping feeling!

It definitely depends on the fandom, though. I do most of my writing for a fandom with a large, passionate base, and this post got me curious, so I took a look at the hits on some of my works. I'm a relative newcomer to the fandom (1 year in), yet I've already got hit counts over 1000 for a number of works. (Love you, all you Cherik fans!)

Not on any particular topic, but have you heard of a fic getting over a thousand hits? I've got a crossover I wrotee that's currently sitting at 1007 Hits. Needless to say, I'm floored. Quite pleased, but floored!

For the record, I have heard of it but it really depends on the fandom.
