Was sampling a free trial of apple tv and found this show. Taika Waititi, Con O'Neil ,and if I'm not mistaken, Anapela Polataivao are all in it. Since so many of the ofmd cast were involved in S1, I can't help but hope for more to show up in future seasons.

Zur Abwechslung haben wir einmal eine hochgelobte britische Polizeiserie mit grausigen Morden und mit einer vom Leben gezeichneter Heldin in schwierigen Lebenssituationen angeschaut, diesmal im immergrauen, düsteren West Yorkshire. Der Titel kommt einem angesichts der Ereignisse fast ein bisschen zynisch vor.

I genuinely think that the reason Izzy is written, perceived and embraced as so much more than just a villain, the reason S2 Izzy is so much more complex and developed and has a redemption arc, is because of Con O'Neil's acting.

Anyway. David Jenkins was the first Izzy enjoyer.

I am watching the worst film for Con O'Neil but at least he's shirtless, WET, moaning & groaning, and absolutely GOING THRU IT

I have so many thoughts but I at least want to address the "for the new unicorn" note. because first of all it's so incredibly gratifying for izzy to finally be accepted into a community. it was shown before that the crew cares for him in some way but it was the first time he really saw that. that he isn't useless and alone, that he still has a place on the ship. even more so the crew WANTS HIM to be on the ship. and also that they want him to embrace his disability which doesn't make them think any less of him.

but also the choice of words. because inherently it rings queer, unicorn as a symbol of queerness. and even if it may have a negative sound when you use it differently here it is extremely positive. izzy is not only accepted to the crew, he's also accepted to the queer community, to the family. the unicorn on the revenge was also the one that was leading the ship, so one can argue that they want him to take that role in their dynamic.

and you can see that he does so immediately. he puts himself together and starts helping the crew. he's still bitchy but no longer violent and cruel. he helps stede and lucius immensely because that is what he does now. he's part of the family. twat.

Okay but on a serious note Con O'Neill ate in these first few episodes and left no fucking crumbs. Last season we ended on deranged Izzy; now we have an Izzy realizing how toxic things can really get and WISHING he could go back to the days when he was the only proper pirate among muppets. And he's TRYING so damn hard and it would be so easy to play that in a cheesy or insincere manner, but we have Con O'Neill swinging for the fences, crying, begging for death, disheveled, trying to undo everything he did to get us all in this mess and failing and looking both miserable and delighted in his misery because he's getting what he thinks he deserves.

And YET we also get the subtle tear in the eye when Stede finds out what they really did to Ed. Like. You can feel how utterly heartbroken the man is just from a glimmer in the corner of his eye.

Love Izzy, hate Izzy, it really doesn't matter, not when he's played so magnificently by Con, and I salute him for everything he's doing in this campy gay pirate show.

Spare a thought for Con O'Neill who, for months, went to comic cons and had to listen to people telling him how important Izzy is to them, how they see themselves in him and how, if something bad happened to Izzy, they would be absolutely devastated. Man deserves an award.
