Hi! Iâm a student currently learning computer science in college and would love it if you had any advice for a cool personal project to do? Thanks!
Personal Project Ideas
Hiya!! đ
It's so cool that you're a computer science student, and with that, you have plenty of options for personal projects that can help with learning more from what they teach you at college. I don't have any experience being a university student however đ
Someone asked me a very similar question before because I shared my projects list and they asked how I come up with project ideas - maybe this can inspire you too, here's the link to the post [LINK]
However, I'll be happy to share some ideas with you right now. Just a heads up: you can alter the projects to your own specific interests or goals in mind. Though it's a personal project meaning not an assignment from school, you can always personalise it to yourself as well! Also, I don't know the level you are, e.g. beginner or you're pretty confident in programming, if the project sounds hard, try to simplify it down - no need to go overboard!!
But here is the list I came up with (some are from my own list):
Personal Finance Tracker
A web app that tracks personal finances by integrating with bank APIs. You can use Python with Flask for the backend and React for the frontend. I think this would be great for learning how to work with APIs and how to build web applications đŚ
Online Food Ordering System
A web app that allows users to order food from a restaurant's menu. You can use PHP with Laravel for the backend and Vue.js for the frontend. This helps you learn how to work with databases (a key skill I believe) and how to build interactive user interfaces đđž
Movie Recommendation System
I see a lot of developers make this on Twitter and YouTube. It's a machine-learning project that recommends movies to users based on their past viewing habits. You can use Python with Pandas, Scikit-learn, and TensorFlow for the machine learning algorithms. Obviously, this helps you learn about how to build machine-learning models, and how to use libraries for data manipulation and analysis đ
Image Recognition App
This is more geared towards app development if you're interested! It's an Android app that uses image recognition to identify objects in a photo. You can use Java or Kotlin for the Android development and TensorFlow for machine learning algorithms. Learning how to work with image recognition and how to build mobile applications - which is super cool đ
Social Media Platform
(I really want to attempt this one soon) A web app that allows users to post, share, and interact with each other's content. Come up with a cool name for it! You can use Ruby on Rails for the backend and React for the frontend. This project would be great for learning how to build full-stack web applications (a plus cause that's a trend that companies are looking for in developers) and how to work with user authentication and authorization (another plus)! đ
Text-Based Adventure Game
If you're interested in game developments, you could make a simple game where users make choices and navigate through a story by typing text commands. You can use Python for the game logic and a library like Pygame for the graphics. This project would be great for learning how to build games and how to work with input/output. đŽ
Weather App
Pretty simple project - I did this for my apprenticeship and coding night classes! It's a web app that displays weather information for a user's location. You can use Node.js with Express for the backend and React for the frontend. Working with APIs again, how to handle asynchronous programming, and how to build responsive user interfaces! đ
Online Quiz Game
A web app that allows users to take quizzes and compete with other players. You could personalise it to a module you're studying right now - making a whole quiz application for it will definitely help you study! You can use PHP with Laravel for the backend and Vue.js for the frontend. You get to work with databases, build real-time applications, and maybe work with user authentication. đ§Ž
Chatbot
(My favourite, I'm currently planning for this one!) A chatbot that can answer user questions and provide information. You can use Python with Flask for the backend and a natural language processing library like NLTK for the chatbot logic. If you want to mauke it more beginner friendly, you could use HTML, CSS and JavaScript and have hard-coded answers set, maybe use a bunch of APIs for the answers etc! This project would be great because you get to learn how to build chatbots, and how to work with natural language processing - if you go that far! đ¤
Another place I get inspiration for more web frontend dev projects is on Behance and Pinterest - on Pinterest search for like "Web design" or "[Specific project] web design e.g. shopping web design" and I get inspiration from a bunch of pins I put together! Maybe try that out!
I hope this helps and good luck with your project!

âI must have still been getting the long term meds out of my system yesterday. I feel FANTASTIC today!â
âI was able to ACE the Computer Science Quiz AND take notes in Home Ec class no problem.â
âItâs as if I only need something to JUMPSTART my focus and then all my training from Jeanette just takes over and I can maintain the focus and clarity.â
âThe problem with the meds that worked all day is that I would experience a short burst of feeling great and then just be absolutely blah and too serious until they wore off. It made my dopamine levels TOO high and that killed my interest in anything fun. Why have fun when the brainâs already satisfied? Right?â
âAnyway, I took the 1 hour ones last night for homework and was indeed able to do it QUIETLY. (Though my mind was working FAST and loudly) Then, they wore off and I was back to being silly, playful, and happy Alvin!â
âAlso, like, even when Iâm quietly doing my homework, I still feel FUN on these ones. I feel like 2.0! The Alvin 2.0 I LIKE being. The one with MORE PERSONALITY!â
âI could ramble for hours. Iâm so glad this is working. It only took an hour and a half to get through 6 assignments last night. Iâm UNSTOPPABLE!â

{ CONAN GRAY, 20, CIS MALE, HE/HIM } Is that OLIVER âOLLIEâ INOUE? A SENIOR originally from WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY, they decided to come to Ogden College to study BUSINESS & COMPUTER SCIENCE on a ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP. Theyâre THE ERUDITE STONER on campus, but even they could get blamed for Greerâs disappearance.
pinterest x playlist [tag] x wanted connections [ coming soon ]
BASIC INFORMATION
Full name: Oliver Ren Inoue Nickname: Ollie, Olls Birthdate: January 25 Age: 20 Zodiac: Aquarius Sun, Libra Moon, Capricorn Rising SEE HIS FULL BIRTH CHART HERE Gender: Cis Man Pronouns: He/Him Sexual/Romantic Orientation: Bisexual/Homoromantic (homoflexible but mostly only likes men tbh) Ethnicity: Japanese & White Trope: The Erudite Stoner
How he Fits the Trope: Ollie is a genius, thatâs what everyone in his life always said. He had the numbers for it, the test scores for it, the IQ for it, and his parents were always so proud. The Inoue family didnât have much going for them, besides living paycheck to paycheck in a small two bedroom apartment. So they just wanted the most for their son, and it seemed like he was on the right track. They signed him up to join Mensa when he was in High School and everyone was so impressed. Ollie was bored. Who gave a shit if he tested well? He certainly didnât, all those tests were so boring. Everything everyone wanted for him, and wanted him to do was so boring. So, he found ways to make his own fun, found friends that werenât only interested in useless things like test scores. He started finding his fun in illicit substances (that completely expanded his mind, man!), and seeing how far he could push the boundaries of⌠legal things. Getting into drugs both helped him level out from the stress of everything that everyone wants for him, and brought something new and exciting into his lifeâ sometimes both at the same time. So, he gets stoned out of his mind from time to time (most of the time), and maybe people donât expect too much from him, but that doesnât mean heâs not still that genius that his parents want him to be.
EDUCATION & OCCUPATION

Shortcomings: Artistic things like music, and art. He loves that kind of thing but heâs not good at it. / Speaking about and addressing his feelings and emotions. And truly opening up to people. / Heâs a bit cocky⌠But it doesnât come from no where! Languages spoken: HIs parents have been speaking English and Japanese to him since he was a baby so he is fluent in both of those, but heâs only just now learning how to write Japanese. He also knows Spanish pretty fluently.
PHYSICAL CHARACTIRISTICS
Eye colour: Brown Hair colour: Dark Brown Hair type: Curly Height: 5â˛8 Build: Lithe Exercise habits: He hates it but he tries to get exercise at least 3 times a week. Piercings: His ear Tattoos: one along his ribs in a block of about 4 lines of binary: 01100110 01110101 01100011 01101011 00100000 01101101 01100101 (it says 'Fuck Me'). one on his wrist that says LC on it (for Link Crawford). Marks/scars: He has a scar across his eyebrow from falling off a bike when he was a kid Clothing style: Extra Slutty Eboy. We have deep V sweaters with nothing underneath, we have half buttoned shirts. We have crop tops, and mesh shirts. A lot of oversized t-shirts with ripped and faded jeans. Most of his clothes are thrifted as well because he likes it better. Usually itâs higher quality, and cheaper. Jewelry: He wears a lot of chains and necklaces, and stuff like that. Some rings too.
PSYCHOLOGY
Positive Traits: Laid Back, Open Minded, Clever, Quick Thinking, Friendly, Independent, Original, Energetic, Confident, Charismatic, Disarming, Cheerful, Inventive, Fair, Analytical, Flexible, Loyal, Dependable, Strong Willed, Witty Negative Traits: Duplicitous, Mischievous, Aloof, Chaotic, Argumentative, Insensitive, Hides Emotions, Sarcastic, Easily Distracted, Often Bored, Jaded, Contrarian, Impatient, Absent Minded, Unpredictable, Self Centered MBTI type: ENTP Enneagram type: 8w7 Moral Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Temperament: Sanguine Introvert or Extrovert?: Extrovert Drug/Alcohol Use: Yes Mental Illnesses: Addiction, and likely (undiagnosed) Bipolar Disorder & some kind of Anxiety Disorder.

CONNECTIONS
Parents: Ren & Faye Inoue Positive Connections: Most people. Monty Richler is his best bro tho. Romantic Connections: :) Negative Connections: Like ⌠3 people
Connection with Greer: Ollie met Greer at a party their Freshman year, and offered her a hit. Thatâs how they met, and for the majority of their relationship thatâs what it was. Theyâd smoke together, theyâd do some molly together, or whatever he had on hand at the time, and vibeâ they got along well. Generally it was not too different from most of Ollieâs relationships. Until she came to him for another reason. He was very smart, he was good at hacking, he needed money; could he get into schoolâs systems and get the answers to a very big exam coming up? Yes, he could. Heâd done it before, so he did. When Greer got a little too busy to study, or do her own school work she came to him for help. A paper here, answers to a test there for her, and money for him. But why stop at just her? So a business was formed, and a very good business relationship, on top of the friendship. Honestly, heâs sad to see her go, she was buying a lot of shit from him by the end of the previous year. She was not just a friend, but a really good source of income.Â
QUICK CATCH UP
All Past Tasks Here !!
Ollie was voted Homecoming King after making a joke about promising everyone free drugs of his own stash (he did deliver).
Ollie & Monty decided to move their drug supply off campus once they realized that the cops were not leaving. It's now located in a house that is under New Construction.
Ollie got a clue with flight information to Portugal from the Haunted House. It matched with Parker's and the two of them turned them anonymously turned the info into the police thinking they'd do something with it. They haven't really.
Ollie was asked by the NaĂŻve Newcomer (before he was expelled) if he could start looking into who this mysterious "G" person was. He did and all of his findings lead to Milo Navarro. Turns out he was wrong though, whoops.
Like everyone who turned one in, his time capsule video was leaked, where he may or may not have been admitting to having feelings for Monty. Who is to say what he was saying.
The cops decided to trust him after his interrogation went well. A bad decision on their part.
He was trapped in The Ski Chateau's kitchen pantry with Milo while Penny mysteriously died. He's pretty fucking shaken up about it.
Ollie threw a party with Link and Mari for their birthdays. Ollie left with Link and got a tattoo of his initials on his wrist.
At the Valentine's Social Ollie was sent a Valentine from G telling him if he sent a secret they would send him a clue. He sent a secret, he hasn't gotten anything back yet though.
During the Valentine's Social Ollie sent a vaguely illicit Valentine to Link that G then sent to Monty. It caused the two of them to fight and they stopped talking to each other over Spring Break.
While Ollie was going through the House of Mirrors at the Spring Carnival he saw and heard someone that sounded like Greer. This is the SECOND time he thinks he's seen Greer and it's getting creepy.
During the Spring Carnival Ollie apologized to Monty and confessed that he wanted them to date. Monty asked Ollie out and they started dating. Aw.
Ollie was sent a text from G to attend a Rave. First he was sent to a cemetery with Ash who might or might not think he's G now, but he doesn't know that.
At the Rave he and Anya attempted to put their brains together to find G but that lasted about five minutes before G said they were stupid (not what G actually said, but they might as well) and then sent everyone home.
Commencement happened at the end of the year and Ollie would rather not think about it.
He was on the second floor of the Commons talking to Eddie when it was set on fire, and he managed to escape with only a little smoke inhalation (but he's been training for that for years) so he was fine.
It was after when he got a text telling him that The Pollyanna, a friend and neighbor of his since they were children, had been arrested and was being blamed for the Fire, being G, Greer's disappearance, and the deaths that happened. He's been pretty fucked up over it.
He and Monty went on a poorly timed road trip over the summer and it went poorly ending in them breaking up.
Back at school and Ollie has been made Homecoming King for the second year in a row! Yay! The year is off to a great start.

Madrid Week 2: Taking Time
Hola a todxs! Niko here again, back for week 2 of studying abroad in Madrid. This week felt nearly as long as my first one in the city. Class started on Monday. Thankfully, schoolwork has been pretty light thus far, so Iâve had the spare energy and time to focus on adjusting to the new schedule, commute, and teaching/class style at UC3M, all while attempting to make new friends with Spanish, American, and International students from across Europe (and Oceania!). Also, I took a weekend trip to Granada in the southern region of AndalucĂa â more on that later.
SCHOOL STUFF (ACADEMICS?!)
With the first week now under my belt, I wanted to quickly touch on my academic experience so far in Spain. This semester, Iâm taking a Spanish language class for international students, and three classes in English for a both national and international students: âSocial groups and their cultural imaginariesâ (a mix between philosophy and culture, INTERHUM 300 equivalent), âMaterials Science and Engineeringâ (MATSCI 220 Equivalent), and âDatabases and Structuresâ (EECS 400 Level Equivalent). Given that I pass đ, all of these classes should count towards my degrees (aerospace engineering major, international minor for engineers, computer science minor).
School at UC3M is quite different than it is in the states. Most notably, the grading system is unfamiliar. At Michigan, a big emphasis is put on required assignments that are due throughout the semester â homeworks, problem sets, mini projects, etc.. These required assignments force students to continuously engage with the content, which I feel improves focus and learning (if the assignments are completed with the right intention). At Carlos III, the final exam constitutes 60% of the final grade for the vast majority of classes, with the remaining 40% of âcontinuous assessmentâ depending on things like in-class quizzes and one-off assignments.
With no homework to keep me on track, Iâm gonna have to pay close attention to make sure my classes donât fall to the wayside with all of the 1,000,000 other distractions in Madrid (and Europe) vying for my attention. Iâve already decided to switch one class (Neural Networks) because I thought it would require a level of effort that I simply wasnât prepared to put in while Iâm abroad with bigger priorities than school (namely, exploration, self growth, meeting people, etc.).
This is a shift in itself that Iâm going to have to get used to â for my entire life, performing well in school has been at the top of my list. However, while in Spain, all I need to do is pass (get a 5/10, 50% overall) for my credits to transfer with no effect on my GPA, so thatâs what Iâm shooting for now. Iâm certain that this will cause some internal conflict (e.g.: a 60% on [x] quiz?! Oh no!!! tbh math 216 already got me over those bad grades tho lol) when things start to pick up, but I guess weâll cross that bridge when we come to it.Â
ON RELATIONSHIPS
Going into my study abroad experience, my biggest goal was to understand the culture of Madrid & Spain from a local point of view. I knew from studying in Buenos Aires that living in a different city can be a much more enriching experience than touring it for vacation, so long as I put in the effort. A big part of that goal was to make friends with people local to Madrid, along with other Americans*/ International students who shared that same mindset. I think that in explicitly setting this goal, I inadvertently put a lot of pressure on myself to make all these friends really quickly, in an environment and language Iâm unfamiliar with, all while trying to adjust to and internalize a major lifestyle shift.
As a result, I think that â up until this week â this self-imposed pressure gave me unnecessary anxiety that inhibited me from being my true self. I spent time worrying about whether the Spanish students in my class would like me, if my Spanish was good enough to communicate with them, if they would judge me for being an American, how soon I should message the new person I met in the cafeteria so I wouldnât appear too clingy⌠the list goes on. I was stressing and strategizing to make friends, when the best strategy is always to just be myself.
This is a lesson Iâve learned during my transition to Michigan, but being implanted into a new environment and University gave me a bit of a factory reset. I had to remind myself that Iâve only been here for 2.5 weeks. Directing my attention inwards instead of outwards will enable me to be fully present (and able to overcome the initial discomfort of making new relationships [see week 1 for discussion on discomfort]) when people that I can click with inevitably come along. Through this process, Iâll undoubtedly develop a stronger relationship with myself and increased comfort being alone, which is another personal goal of mine.
Funnily enough, thatâs how things started to turn out in the second half of the first week. When I caught myself overthinking and was able to redirect my focus, I slowly started to reach out and become more friendly with some of the Spanish students in my culture class, and I met a group of Spaniards by chance that I really vibe with at the club on a Wednesday (oops, sorry itâs syllabus week :P ). Simultaneously, Iâve begun to get closer to some fellow American study abroad students. By no means have I found the perfect group of friend-soulmates that Iâll proceed to travel and experience Europe with for the rest of my 17 weeks in Spain, but that wasnât something that I was ever expecting, anyways. Moving forward, Iâm going to do my best to avoid resisting flow, always assuming positive intent to keep myself open to new interactions (check out what I mean by this by watching this video clip from a speech Mark Rober gave at the MIT graduation, I highly recommend the whole video), all the while prioritizing my own peace and happiness.
This weekend, I also visited Granada, a small town in the south of Spain famous for its Moorish influence and the incredible La Alhambra palace nestled in its hills. I might cover the trip in more detail next week, I guess weâll see⌠but it was a beautiful weekend filled with beautiful architecture, beautiful sunsets, and great company. Per usual, check out the photo captions for some more context.
Until next week :)Â

*A LONG ASIDE ON THE WORD âAMERICANâ, for context & completeness
I would like to be clear about my use of the word "American". In English, there is no succinct way to say âPerson from the United States of Americaâ, unlike other nationalities (Spaniard, Argentinian, Norwegian, etc). American is the best word that we have. However, in conversations about US culture with people from other countries, Iâve been met with a similar critique in multiple instances (both with Europeans and South Americans). The Americas include the entire continent of North America and South America, which encompasses a huge variety of countries, cultures, and nationalities. When saying the word âAmericanâ while describing a person from the United States, we are inadvertently reinforcing the narrative that the United States is the most significant country across both continents and thus more righteously deserves the blanket term âAmericanâ over any other country in the region.
This conclusion is obviously more nuanced than what Iâve stated. The United States of America uses the word âAmericaâ in its name, which is likely where this blanket term came from. Also, I donât think that the perpetuation of this US-centric language is due to intentional individual action, but rather a result of complicated cultural and etymological phenomena which I donât have a comprehensive understanding of.
I wonât stop saying American in these blogs â primarily because saying âperson from the United Statesâ each time would likely distract from the points I'm trying to make â but I felt that an acknowledgement of this common criticism was important. In Spanish, Estados Unidos = United States, and US citizens are more precisely described as âEstadounidensesâ (although the word âAmericanoâ is still commonly used). When introducing myself to people from other countries, I always do my best to use the most precise language possible when referring to my nationality, which is one of the many ways I practice cultural humility. Stay tuned for another blog sometime this semester about how I go about practicing cultural humility, something that I think is very important for Americans who come from one of the most â if not the most â influential countries on earth (something that has also become apparent through my conversations).

What to do when:
depressed
no motivation
have test on wednesday, midterm on thursday, quiz on friday that haven't studied for
have philosophy paper due friday already got week extension for haven't started yet
have computer science assignment due friday haven't started yet
can't start computer science assignment until past 4 completed, only done one so far
been sick for a week and and an extra weekend
mental health is trashed
completely torpedoed personal life a month ago over something really stupid
too anxious about everything to make progress on anything
also too anxious to talk to profs about struggling
can't even tell the whole story of why personal life torpedoed because of sensitive topics involved
no therapist and waitlists are 6 months+
have to go home and deal with family from friday evening through to wednesday morning next week, knowing they'll poke about personal life but not being able to explain fully because sensitive topics again
only real community you have is in the university city but not at the university and very far away from hometown with family
so overwhelmed you just shut down
can't stop deflecting and avoiding responsibilities
probably going to fail out of program
can't even care though because everything is meaningless and i don't even want to be in this program anyway
only reason i'm still here is because i like the program's student society and the ring that i get if i graduate
been spending money on lottery tickets instead of anything useful because the scratching noise is the only thing that calms you anymore
know that in posting this your sister and your ex might see it but don't know where else to go
could go to advice reddit but post would probably be removed by mods and/or people wouldn't give helpful advice
everything feels pointless anyway with world as it is atm
feel bad for not feeling worse about that and just being numb to it
also feel bad for not trying hard enough to make it better or to do better myself
kinda just want to stop existing but only to the point of somewhat reckless carelessness not any actual ideas
just need to write everything out somewhere because otherwise going to scream
also have doctor's appt next week that will change nothing because the family doctor is retiring and can't be bothered to switch medications, just increase dosages
which we've already tried twice and isn't helping btw
and this is how i'm feeling while on the antidepressants and adhd medication
only thing i actually want to do is sleep and kinda strangely donate blood but i can't do the latter for another 2 months
sounding increasingly unhinged as post continues
oh i guess i also want to play league but i've managed to stick to my conviction of not allowing kernel level anticheats on my laptops for almost a year and it's kinda the only thing i've got going for me at this point
missed out on the one community i enjoy's events for two events in a row because sick
writing this all during a cs lecture because i can't even pretend that i am focused or understand what's going on
know that this is probably enough info to doxx me but can't bring myself to care
kinda hope one of my classmates or profs find this
feel bad about eating out a lot because of public speaking presentation from yesterday
likewise about not exercising because of my own group's public speaking presentation from last week
need to respond to people who were going to play pandemic legacy campaign with me to say it's cancelled because im too depressed
also need to read stuff for philosophy class in <1 hour but can't be bothered
might just talk to my philosophy prof about everything because she's pretty chill and it's a small class and it's not required for me to graduate so i can always drop the class if needed
also really don't want to fail the term though because it would fuck up scheduling with the few people that i actually know and i would just be even more alone
wish i could just start on things before they were due but can't even manage that after failing two courses last term
why can't i make my stupid brain learn
i want to just live at home and sleep and do nothing all day but living at home is even more stressful because my mom is always making me clean stuff if i'm "not doing anything important" and gets mad if i say that i'm too mentally exhausted from existing
could just leave and go sleep at the park nearby but then i'd be too out in the open
esp seeing as that park is very interlinked with my trauma
but also just don't want to have to deal with any people at all whatsoever
desk leaving angry red marks on my forearms while i type but can't be bothered to change my position
wanna go back to before i had awareness of the world around me and/or quarantine times when staying home doing nothing was normal
hate hate hate adult life i don't want it why can't i just be a child of a billionaire who is set for life in terms of money but doesn't have to talk to anyone including parents
why can't i just motivate myself like everyone else
realize i sound very much like an angsty 14 year old and hate myself even more for it
how does everyone else manage
actually found myself staring at the kitchen knives at a convenience store and thinking about how relieving it would be to run the edge of one over my skin and let myself bleed just a little bit before realizing how fucked up that is and forcing myself to walk away from the aisle
don't understand how my mental health has gotten this bad, it doesn't make any sense
why is it worse now than when i figured out what had actually happened was traumatic i thought i had processed most of it why now why now why now it doesn't make sense
i just want everything to stop, just for a moment, please
If you have any advice please share because idk what to do atp.

Student complains
How can you make a table with objectives only? there should be other categories. So that means my professor asked us to submit a Lesson Plan. I can present my materials later on anyway.
Whenever my cooperating teacher ask me to do a DLL, I only accomplish the planning. Because I know that the materials should be standardized. The reference that she gave me was incomplete. When I ask her where she gets the content of her lesson, she said she do research. I wasn't able to ask her if it's the same as the other teachers' research. She is only teaching 4 sections. I was informed that there are 20 in that grade level. When I listened to her discussion, majority of the content was not in the reference. And the focus is totally far from what I would probably do. Her quizzes focused on computation, problem solving. She thought math in science. 30% of the quiz is about conversion of numbers to exponential form. New method, I think, inclusive. To tap multiple intelligence?
She should have given me a contact to the other teachers so I can collaborate and do a lecture material with them. I tried giving her one as a reference on my second try. She should have given me their standardized lecture that I will put into a PowerPoint presentation. I am just an FS student who is assigned to observe and assist only. I am not a practice teacher yet. She should have told me. For me, the content of instruction materials is hers.

Bright minds unite: 2023 CERN Webfest celebrates two winning projects and successful collaborations
Bright minds unite: 2023 CERN Webfest celebrates two winning projects and successful collaborations Last weekâs hackathon gave rise to five amazing projects, on which 19 bright young people from across CERN worked together to develop useful apps that support science, research and education. The ideas covered in the 2023 CERN Webfest included web applications that facilitate the research process, quiz-like educational games and useful upgrades to pre-existing apps. The projects were carefully assessed by a panel of four distinguished judges, and two teams were named the winners. âAll projects were fascinating and creative, so it was a hard call â especially the two winning projects, SciFeed and CERNbot, which were both exceptionally impressive and well executed,â says Alberto Di Meglio, the head of the Innovation section in the IT department and a jury member. In only two days, participants had to come up with an idea for a project, assemble a team, describe the projectâs purpose, identify its technical requirements and work towards developing a fully functioning app. âHaving only 48 hours to finish a project forces you to come up with practical solutions quickly, which puts your problem-solving skills to the test,â says Angelo Petrellese, a member of CERNbot, one of the winning teams. The hackathon not only offers participants the chance to develop their project ideas but also fosters networking and collaboration. More than 10 nationalities were represented in this yearâs Webfest, with people from various cultural backgrounds coming together to create something unique, exchange knowledge and learn from each other. The projects were judged based on their originality, level of technical sophistication and potential for positive social impact. The highest score for the technical solution went to CERNbot, which is an interactive mobile application game that allows you to handle CERN robots in augmented reality. The other winning project, SciFeed, in addition to being very strong technically, was also rated highly for the educational value it provides for the wider community. SciFeed is an online platform that curates content to allow students and STEM enthusiasts to engage with the science of CERN. âI am genuinely grateful for the recognition our idea received from the judges. Winning will always be a cherished memory that we will share as a team but, more importantly, it will serve as a driving force, motivating us to delve deeper into our concept and explore its potential for further development,â says Viona Cafo, a SciFeed member. hi! how have you been since the hell that ensued after halloween is?
also could you do a batboys college au? like their major and how the reader would meet them and all that jazz? đđ
-đĽ
hi anon!! iâm not sure what ur talking about @ the halloween stuff hvsdhjs but! here are the batboys hcâs! iâm not very familiar with duke thomasâs character enough to write about him tbh, so heâs not included here :( but if you want me to add him let me know!! i hope you enjoy!!
dick grayson
out of all the batboys i really didnât know how to choose a major for him
but
i think heâd do law tbh, specifically criminal lawÂ
his main motivation to become a police officer in bludhaven had been to be able to help people in any way he canÂ
i forgot if itâs canon or not but he does realize how corrupt it is and he quits but thatâs another thing we wonât get into that lmaoÂ
anyways yes letâs just stick with lawÂ
meeting you !Â
he shares one or two courses with you
one thatâs really early in the morningÂ
and one thatâs later on in the afternoonÂ
dick is like a magnetic okay
anywhere he goes people are just attracted to him
like literally he will breatheÂ
but someone call the ambulance thereâs a person thatâs passed out bc of how beautiful he is
but this is an 8 am class đ
so thereâs no way ur awake enough to notice him
coincidentally he sits next to you one time
and this is the one time
you decide
yeah lemme just fkn sleep is uni even worth itÂ
dick definitely notices right away but he doesnât say anythingÂ
he thinks you look so cute passed out on your desk like this đĽş
when the professor signals the end of the class, he watches as people file out and then he just leans over and nudges you slightlyÂ
you nearly punch him bc he scared you â¤ď¸
he just laughs and goes âclass is overâÂ
you just sigh like the guilt starts to hit you and your heart begins to sink
and he sees your disappointed face and just goesÂ
âi took a lot notes. i can share them w you?â
lifesaver in every single way dick grayson đťđťđť
you had another class that you had to run to and you were rushing
he was like âdw iâll just give them to you whenever i see you nextâÂ
and you đđťââď¸ outta there
imagine ur surprise when u enter class at 12 pm and heâs there in all his gloryÂ
after the lecture is over, he walks up to you as youâre packing and asks if you want to go to the coffee shop nearbyÂ
to take his notes of course
and you finally register just how handsome he isÂ
so obviously you say yes wtf
and the rest is history đź
he asks you out, properly, pretty early on tbhÂ
so unfazed lmfaoÂ
now you take naps on his shoulder instead of the desk đđđ
soooo into pdaÂ
kisses u when he first sees you
when youâre parting ways
when he feels like it
straight up cuddles w during lectures iâm not even jokingÂ
itâs disgusting how cute you two areÂ
gets you coffee for all those 8 am classes u have w him hehe
study dates always turn into karaoke sessions somehow donât even ask lmao
jason todd
english literatureÂ
this is a collective agreement right?Â
right
definitely english literatureÂ
i dont even think he wants to go to uni but heâs going to waste time plus this is bruceâs money đđ¤
your major doesnât necessarily have to be english literature as well
but you share one class
and my godÂ
you two disagree on everything
like every little thing
at this point if he says something and you slightly agree internally youâll still say some opposing shitÂ
thatâs kinda what draws you to himÂ
at first you genuinely had nothing against him
but then this kind of rivalry developed for no specific reasonÂ
but it was fun
and he was hot
so seeing him get flustered or angry made him even hotter somehowÂ
but then
but t h e n
youâre not sure if your professor like ships you or something
so youâre assigned a debate topic on one of the books youâd discussed in class/one of the books youâve read outside, and within each group are the two sides for and againstÂ
not only were you in the same team as jason, but you were on the same side as him
so you had to work with him
the audacity of the professor omgÂ
but jason needs this courseÂ
andÂ
well you donât but itâs too late to back out nowÂ
you two meet in the campus library after deciding on a book with the other two of your team
andÂ
honestly???Â
you two work so well togetherÂ
like insanely well
during the debate you destroyed the other teamÂ
spoiler alertÂ
doing so well with jason kinda made you like hot and botheredÂ
seeing him in his zone
sexy <3Â
what i mean to say is
you both end up making out in some storage room lmfaoÂ
or hate sex đ
professor has a phd in matchmaking đ¤đť
i think you two donât admit you like each other
bc youâre both stubborn as fuck
but eventually youâre literally on his lap on his couch and it just hits you
and you lean back and go
âwanna go out w meâÂ
and he just shrugs and goes âsureâ and pulls you in for more kissing hehe
heâs not v good at the boyfriend thing tbh
you have to chase him around and be like âsir!!! did u forget about me huh!!!â
he doesnât mean to i promise
he gets all blushy and flustered once he realizesÂ
only ever into pda if heâs insanely jealousÂ
will straight up make out w u regardless of where u are or who ur with lmfaoÂ
heâs still getting used to the little intimacies and allÂ
debates in class are so much more fun now cause he finds it so hot when u get all riled up hehe
that eng lit professor is so happy for you two omg
tim drake
okay i also couldnât really decide for him
but maybe heâd study something like physics (or maybe computer engineering/computer science)Â
idk u have to have a death wish to wanna major in physics so timâs major it is
iâm not sure how it works for every other uni but my uni requires 6 credits of sciences to graduateÂ
so letâs say for the sake of this hc u take like just the first level of physics to get 3 creditsÂ
andÂ
youâre struggling đđđź
so you like approach your professor with a few questions before the quizÂ
but tim is also there
and he kinda makes small talk while you two wait outside the office
and he asks why youâre here
you show him
and heâs like âoh i took this course w the same professor as well, i could help?âÂ
itâs like an angel had descended from the heavens for you personallyÂ
you take his number and decide to meet up with him after a few hoursÂ
heâs of so much more help than your professor wouldâve been, even if ur prof is a really nice and smart personÂ
and heâs super like
patient with you?Â
also he pays for all the coffee and snacks youâre getting after you already get themÂ
ur like bruh i didntÂ
dont pay pls
and heâs like no im loaded let me đź
swooning <3Â
and guess what!!Â
you ace the quiz out of some miracle
first thing you do is text him and he congratulates youÂ
and then
bc ur not blind and tim is so fucking cute
youâre like âcan i take u out to thank uâÂ
timâs brain stops working but !Â
he does say yes eventuallyÂ
he becomes your designated physics tutor + your amazing boyfriend
being with tim is so like
chill
itâs a very relaxed timeÂ
lots of study dates! and cafe dates! all hours of the day whether the sun is up or notÂ
into pda but to a certain degreeÂ
like yes of course have a kiss pretty babyÂ
but also it will only be a small peck
any time anyone passes by like common rooms you two will be there snuggling on the couch, one or both of you completely passed outÂ
damian wayne
business major 100%Â
or a bsba econ major, which is basically the business side of economicsÂ
he has to take over his fatherâs company one day duhÂ
also i genuinely think damian would excel in this fieldÂ
heâs a very keeps to himself kinda guy in uni
like you only ever see him in your common classes and then he just
disappearsÂ
anyways there was this party that everyone was going to, and damian wasnât planning to
but dick accidentally read some groupchatâs messages and was like are u going
damian went đđťââď¸
but dick was like go and try to make friends !!!!Â
and dames cant say no to his big bro 𼺠so he goes
stays in a corner on the settings app the entire time
like half an hr in he just leaves and is walking home/back to his dorm when you come like rushing up to himÂ
youâre zoomingÂ
and then you just latch onto his hand and lean up to press a kiss to his cheek, whispering in his ear âthis personâs been following me for like 15 mins just please go along w thisâÂ
he kinda stiffens but when he does notice that thereâs a person eyeing you he slips his arm around your waist and just carries on walking
he walks you to your home/dorm and is like
so awkwardÂ
but itâs okay ! ur a peopleâs person enough for the two of youÂ
you thank him so much over and overÂ
and then youâre likeÂ
âcan i take you out on a real date?âÂ
and then he becomes ur real boyfriend hehe
is still super stiff but itâs only bc heâs so hyper aware of how attractive you are
and iâm super positive he doesnât have that much experience with dating soÂ
you hold the reignsÂ
but heâs a great boyfriend all in all tbhÂ
super attentive, super protective, and so lovingÂ
isnât into pda especially on college campus but he does like subtle pda
things like linking your pinkies or giving you his hoodie to just parade around campus hehe
end note; iâm sorry if these feel rushed or anything like. i used to be an avid writer for the batboys, but i just havenât been feeling it lately. i still love to write from them bc i know these boys so well eeeeppp. anyways feel free to request some more!!

Teach Me Something
I am slowly but surely making my way through the requests that I have and I am sorry that I suck at writing them, but here this is. Also, ignore the fact that this canât actually happen how I have it set up, but I started writing the beginning and really liked it and then looked up more information about the Stampede and didnât want to change it (donât judge me).
Thank you, thank you, thank you to @luvsherleafsâ for reading through this and helping me figure this out, you are an absolute angel human and I appreciate you.
Here is the original request! Hope you like this!
EDIT: Read the other parts:Â part 2 // part 3 // part 4

âAlright, I need you guys to start cleaning up, the bell is going to ring in five minutes! Beakers in the cabinets, lab goggles away, paper towels in the garbage. Lab calculations are due at the start of tomorrowâs class, and you have your nuclear quiz when?â you yell to your students as they finish up their lab.
âWednesday,â some of your students answer.
âCooper and Eugenie, when is the quiz?â you say louder, trying to get two of your students to stop distracting each other.
âWednesday,â they chorus, the rest of their classmates running around the room trying to get everything away.Â
âThatâs right!â you say with a smile, trying to keep your teacher face on for the last few minutes. It was the end of the day, and you had to get home and change before you went over the Stampede for the show that night. What sucked, was that instead of doing just a July week of shows, they decided it would be fun to do a preview night for some groups in March in some tent instead of outdoors like normal, overlapping with your school year.Â
The bell rings, your students scrambling to get out the door. âBye, guys, see you tomorrow,â you say as they scurry out, saying things like âthank you, bye Ms. Y/L/I, see you tomorrow.â You sit down at your desk, letting out a long sigh as the sound of students in the hallway gets louder from chatter, lockers, and overall high school chaos. Going through your lesson for tomorrow, you get lost in typing out your plan that the administration wanted to see, finishing the worksheets that you needed to print, and figuring out what other prep you needed to do before leaving for the day.Â
You lean back in your desk chair, debating whether or not you should send the worksheets to the printer now and make the 100 or so copies you needed, or come in and do it during your prep that you had first period tomorrow. âHey Ms. Y/L/N, any chance you could tell me about capillary action?â you heard a familiar voice say from the doorway.Â
âConsidering you learn about that in Biology and I teach Chemistry, I would say no,â you laugh, getting up to go greet your boyfriend, closing the door behind him as he steals your desk chair. âThe US education system failed you, didnât it?â
âWell, itâs not like I paid attention in science anyway,â he shrugs, âBut what are you doing tonight?â
âIâm out tonight,â you say. You and Matthew had only been dating for about two months, and you still hadnât brought up that you were one of the dancers with the Stampede. You didnât know why; it just never came up. âWhy, what did you have in mind?â
âThe guys and I were going to go out for some Flames promotion thing, I wanted you to come.â
âIf you guys go out after ten, I can try to catch up with you, but I also need sleep with school tomorrow,â you say as he pouts. You also needed more money, but that wasnât something you were about to tell him. You ruffle his curly hair, him swatting your hands away as the pout turns to a smile. âYou can come and make copies with me if you want. You have to wait to leave right now anyway, the buses are still outside,â you tell him, sending the documents to the printer down the hall.Â
âDo I get to press the buttons?â he asks like a child, getting up to follow you down the hall.
You start walking, the sound of your heels echoing through the hallway as Matthew trails behind you, some of the students trying to figure out what he was doing in their school in the first place, him not knowing where he was going with you. âNo, the thing is ancient and I donât trust you not to break the one copier on this floor because then Iâm the one whoâs responsible for fixing it.â He starts to pout again, following you into the room with the copier. âOk, then do you want to fix it when it stops working?âÂ
âThat would end well for no one,â he says, looking down at his shoes.Â
You canât help but laugh as you go to start making the first set of copies that you needed. You sit down at the table in the center of the room, taking Matthews fidgeting hands in yours. âSo, how did you even get into the school, to begin with? I didnât know you were coming to tell the office.â
âYouâd be amazed by what you can do when youâre a professional athlete. I just said I was visiting you and they told me I could go once the bell rang,â he shrugs.Â
âThat is an issue on so many levels,â you say, him just smiling and kissing the back of your hand.Â
âEh, well. Are you sure you canât come out with us tonight? The guys love you and I think youâd have a really good time tonight.âÂ
You hear the copier stop, groaning as you get up to make the next batch. You could have just queued them all up at once, but that would make the copier angry. âWhat are you guys doing?âÂ
âItâs Flames night at the Stampede, so a bunch of us are going.âÂ
You stop what youâre entering into the copier, thankful that your back is facing Matthew. You should just tell him you were going to be there tonight, too. If you told him you were going to be there with other friends from work, that wouldnât be a lie. Why werenât you telling him in the first place? Maybe it was because you were slightly upset that you had to have two jobs just to make ends meet while he was living a life of luxury on one paycheck. But at least both jobs were ones that you loved, so that made things a little better. âOh, cool. Iâve never seen one of the shows there, actually,â was all you could get out. That wasnât totally a lie; you couldnât see the show when you were in it.
âSee, more of a reason why you should come out with us tonight!âÂ
âI said maybe. Thatâs not a no. Now come on, I need to get home,â you hand him the stacks of paper to bring back to your classroom.
âCan we at least do something tomorrow night?â he pleads, putting the papers down on your desk.Â
âI need one copy of these in the yellow and orange folders and one copy of this one in the pink folders, and one copy of this in the blue folders,â you instruct him while you check to see if you have another rehearsal or anything that you need to be at tomorrow night. âBut what do you want to do tomorrow night?âÂ
âUh, well, I was planning on getting in an early workout with Noah and Johnny the next morning since we have a late flight to Colorado so nothing that involves anything late,â he says, trying to concentrate on putting one piece of paper into each folder. âWhy do you do this again?â
âNothing late is the best, so Iâm down for whatever.â That also, hopefully, meant that it was something that involved little to no money being spent, âAnd it helps me know who is missing that day or just didnât take their papers and it helps them make sure they get their papers. I put them out before each class and they take them when they walk in.â He just shrugs, not completely understanding the method to your madness, but it worked for you and your students, so who cared? âHow much time do you have before you have to meet the guys?â You ask him, even though you really donât have time yourself.Â
âI gotta run; this was the only time I had to see you, so I wanted to come by,â he says, putting the folders in neat piles, handing them to you.Â
âThatâs so sweet. I feel like we havenât gotten to see each other a lot lately, with the season picking up and all.â You put the folders on one of the counters in your room, dropping the two on the top.
As you bend down to pick them up, you hear Matthew exhale, âIs it bad that all I can think of is picking you up and doing some very bad things to you on that counter?â
You turn around, pretending to be disgusted. âMatthew! The students leave their water bottles here!â you squeal, thankful that your classroom door was closed since students were still roaming the halls. âThat might be something we can do tomorrow night, just not on this counter.â You pack your computer in your bag, grabbing that, your keys, and Matthewâs hand to drag him out of the school before he says anything else that shouldnât be said around children.Â
âCan I at least kiss you in the parking lot?â he whines.
âNope, my spot and therefore my car faces the track, some of my advanced kids are on the track team and I do not need them bringing up my romantic rendezvous with my boyfriend in class tomorrow and for the rest of the year. But where are you parked?â
âI ubered. Can I get a ride?â he says, giving you the puppy dog eyes that always made you say yes to him.
âGet in, pain in the ass.â You drive him home, the entire drive spent with him constantly begging you to go upstairs with him, but you really did have to get home and change. âIâll see you tomorrow. Your place or mine?âÂ
âYour pick, just text me when you decide,â he says, leaning over to give you a kiss. âWait, are we far enough away from the school for you to kiss me now?â he teases, ghosting your lips as a mischievous smile dancing across his face.Â
âShut up and kiss me,â you say, taking his face in your hands, kissing him instead.Â
âAre you sure you canât come upstairs for just a minute?â he begs once he pulls away, his forehead against yours.
You wanted to, but he did say he had to run and you definitely had to get home and change. Looking at the clock out of the corner of your eye, you had about an hour to get home, get ready, and get over to the grounds before the parking was so full that walking from your car to the grounds would be considered your warm-up. âIâve really got to go,â you say.
âFine. Iâll see you tomorrow, though,â he says, giving you another quick kiss before getting out of your car.Â
âYeah, bye,â you call as he runs inside. You did have to tell him eventually that you had another job, but he was going to find out tonight anyway. Would he be mad that you kept something like this from him, especially when he told you that he was going to be there tonight and you stood there and didnât say anything?Â
You spend your entire drive home freaking out a little. This is a pretty big part of your life that you hid from him, especially since dancing has been part of your life for as long as you could remember, but you just couldnât figure out how to tell him you needed a second job to live. What if he hates you because youâve been keeping part of your life a secret from him? No, he couldnât hate you, could he? Not for something like this. In all your freaking out, you completely mess up your makeup. Frustrated and in a hurry, you now had to completely redo your face in what would be record time, or be late enough that you risked walking a mile from your car.
You restart your makeup, deciding that you were going to do as little as possible, only to be distracted by your friend Rory's face popping up on your phone with an incoming call. âSo is your hunky boyfriend going to be at this thing tonight?â
âHello to you, too. And yeah he told me he was coming.â
âSo he knows youâre going to be there?âÂ
You hear her drop something on her end, which is perfect since it gives you time to avoid her question, pretend not to hear it as your finish your face and try to run out the door. âSorry, Ror, didnât catch that, Iâm running out the door to my car,â you tell her.Â
âThat translates to: no, I didnât tell him.âÂ
âWell, heâs not stupid, heâll be able to figure out itâs me when he sees my face. Itâs not like I look that different when I have makeup on.âÂ
âYou could call him and tell him right now.â
âNope. Heâll find out when he gets there if he even notices.â
âAlright, love. Just make sure you find me after he freaks out,â she says, hanging up. He wouldnât freak out, right? Itâs not like you were lying per se, you were just not telling him the truth of things. He might be a little mad about not telling him exactly where you were going tonight, but none of what you told him was wrong: you were out with people you worked with. You just didnât say you were going to actually be at work.Â
You spend your entire ride trying to justify to yourself why you shouldnât be freaking out over tonight, which then inadvertently caused you to freak out anyway. After parking what felt like a mile away and pretty much running to the room where you got ready, Rory is standing at the door, waiting for you.Â
âCome here, Iâm finishing your makeup.â
âI finished my makeup!â you protest as she takes you by the hand and drags you in front of a mirror.
âIf your boyfriend is coming tonight, then you need to look better than that.âÂ
âHe came to my classroom earlier and I almost never wear makeup to school. I look fine.âÂ
âEyes closed,â she instructs. You do as she says. You can hear the crowd coming in to watch the show that you were about to put on for them. You were in the opening act, one in the middle, and then the end, so you had plenty of downtime to worry, pace, and freakout, while trying to remember your routine and get a headstart on your lessons for next week. âI donât understand why youâve spent this entire time dancing here with us and then dating him for what, two months now? And he still doesnât know that much about you? Like I understand keeping mystery in the relationship to keep everything exciting, but this seems like basic information that should have been shared. Itâs not like youâre doing something illegal.â
âIf my eyes were open, Iâd be rolling them at you,â you mutter. You didnât need a lecture from her about this. You were already well aware of the fact that this was something you should have told him, but what could you do about it now?
âIâm just saying,â she starts again.
âYes, I know, I know. You have been just saying since I first showed you his picture.â Thankfully, she stops talking, finishing your makeup in less time than you thought it would take. You can hear your phone buzzing in your bag, Matthewâs face lighting up your screen. âHey, whatâs up?â you ask, trying to change while also holding the phone to your ear.Â
âJust wanted to say hi before the show started,â you hear him say, the guys screaming in his ear about him already being whipped. âShut up,â he yells at them. âI thought I saw your car in the lot, though. Did you and your friends end up coming here or something?âÂ
Shit. You hear someone calling that it was almost time for the show, everyone needing to get ready to be in their place as you struggle to get your other shoe on. âFuck, sorry, I have to go. Iâll talk to you later, bye!â you spit out, hanging up before he can say anything else.Â
âReady to be exposed?â Rory asks, getting next to you with the lights out.
âThatâs what she said,â you slip in, the music and lights coming on, blinding you instantly as you went into the routine like it was something you were born to do. At one point in the routine, youâre off to the side, out of the spotlight and giving your vision enough time to see the audience, make out their faces and see who was paying attention and who was on their phone and trying to hide you. You glance to the left, seeing a sea of red, each man wearing the familiar C logo that you were suddenly mortified to see. You spotted Matthewâs curls instantly, thankful that you werenât able to tell if he could see you or not since you had to go back under the light, erasing the outside world from you.Â
The routine ends, you running back to where you get ready to see your phone lighting up with texts from Matthew.
Hey, what the hell?
Anything you need to tell me?
Iâm going to be by your car once this is over.Â
Fuck, fuck, fuck. He was mad. He was breaking up with you. This was it; your best relationship was over before it really got started. You should have just told him. Why didnât you tell him? âDid he see you?â Rory asks, breaking you out of the trance you forced yourself into.Â
âYep, and heâs mad. After tonight Iâm going to be single again, so thatâs fun.â
âWell, Ryanâs had a crush on you since you started here, so thereâs always him.â
âRory!â you yell, trying to tell her sheâs not helping without actually saying so.Â
âAre you going to be ok to go on?â she asks, sitting you down on the floor with her.Â
âI donât know. I just want to talk to Matthew,â you admit. You can feel yourself start to cry, the commotion of everything around you muted as she just looked at you.
âHey,â she says, putting her hand on your knee, âWhy didnât you tell him?â
You take in a deep breath, shaking your head because of how dumb the real reason is. âDo you know what itâs like to date someone who makes so much money that he can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants financially? Iâm not mad about it, itâs just difficult when I have to work two jobs to make ends meet and thatâs just not something he has to worry about. He always wants to go out with the guys and begs me to come but then Iâm sitting there with like, ten dollars to my name meanwhile all of he and all of his friends can buy the bar if they wanted to and still have enough money to jet off to Australia or somewhere.â
âIf he really likes you, then that kind of stuff shouldnât matter. His first clue that you didnât have a lot of money should have been when he found out you were a teacher.â You shoot her a look, âOk, ok, but you know Iâm right. From what youâve told me, he just wants you to be happy. Go talk to him.â
âBut the show?âÂ
âIâll find your partner and tell him not to go on unless he can find you first. Ok?â Rory says, picking you back up off the floor, âGo to your man.â
You send him a text to meet you out by your car as soon as he can. You beat him to the car, pacing back and forth in front of the hood. You see him walking towards you, your heart beating like crazy. âIâm sorry I didnât tell you,â you blurt out to him before he can even get a word in.
His eyes meet yours, his lips pressed into a thin line. âWhy didnât you tell me?âÂ
You just shrug, trying to figure out the words to say. âIt never came up? I donât know. I should have. Itâs not a big deal, I just have to work the two jobs to make ends meet, especially since this is normally during the summer when I donât have school and I can get a paycheck and I told you that Iâve been dancing since I was like three, I just left out the part about me still dancing and Iâm sorry are you mad?â you let out all in one breath.Â
He shrugs back, his hand in his jean pockets as he kicks a pebble back and forth with his foot. âThatâs not the real reason. I know you well enough, Y/N, youâre not a good liar.â
âYou have everything. I have to struggle to make ends meet, and even doing this, itâs still tough. I love both of my jobs; I was always worried that I would have to choose between teaching or dancing, and yes I have to do both in order to survive, but I would do both even if one was enough. Iâm sorry,â you say again.
âThis isnât something thatâs going to work if we keep things from each other. I mean, what if I had a secret family? I mean, the guys know who you are, too. What do you think it was like having them see my girlfriend dancing out there and me sitting there like an idiot not even knowing this was something you do?â he counters, his hands starting to wave around with frustration.
âNot telling you about a job is a lot different than you keeping a whole family from me. Itâs not like this is some sort of scandal, this is something that Iâm insecure about, I donât know what else to tell you. Sorry I made you look slightly stupid in front of your friends.â you turn away from him, starting to go back inside when he grabs you by the arm, turning you towards him.Â
He bites his bottom lip, face scrunched like heâs trying to figure out what heâs going to do next. âThis is something that makes you happy?âÂ
âYeah.â
âWhat about teaching?â
âSame feeling.â
âThen thatâs all I care about. Come on, you think I would be angry that you had two jobs, or something? I would be angry if you had two jobs and you hated both of them. Youâre doing what you love. Every time you talk about what you did at school that day, your eyes light up and I donât even think you realize how much energy you get just thinking about your students and I feel so proud to be with someone whoâs so passionate about what they do. If youâre like that about this, then oh my, god, I think the guys are going to kill me for talking about you so much.â
âAw, you talk about me to the guys?âÂ
The line in his lips turns into a small smile as he moves towards you, pulling you closer to him. His hand finds the small of your back, lips close enough that youâre sure heâs about to kiss you. âAre you kidding? I donât shut up about you.â
âI talk about you a lot here, but if I did that at school my Principal would get very angry at me for not teaching.â
âDamn, your kids would go wild if they knew you were sleeping with one of their favorite athletes.â
âYeah, and I would be fired for telling them and also lying to them since their favorite player is Sean.âÂ
He pulls away, a shocked look on his face, âIâm better than Monny,â he says, acting like heâs hurt. You throw your head back laughing as he pulls you closer to him. âIs it bad that Iâm still thinking about fucking you on the counter in your classroom but now youâre wearing this?âÂ
âHow about somewhere that my students donât have access to and I wear one of your jerseys instead?â
His eyes grow wide before he closes them, obviously thinking about it, âFuck,â he lets out, his face going towards the sky. âPlease do.â
âCalm down there, Tkachuk, you still have the rest of the show to get through first.âÂ

Professor Evans:
Good morning! Itâs nice to hear from you. I was in the process of getting your contact information to introduce myself. Thank you for taking me on as your TA, alsoâI appreciate that youâre giving me a chance. Iâll avail myself on Wednesday to meet with you at 3 p.m., I donât want to change your schedule on my behalf. I can also provide you with my class schedule if youâd like so that you have my availability when you need to meet with me.
Iâm excited to be working with you this semester!.
 Best,
(Y/N) (Y/L/N)

âHi, my nameâs (Y/N) (Y/L/N). Is Dr. Evans around?â She entered the lecture hall, approaching the podium where another professor was packing up her things. âIâm his new TA.â
âYes, his office is through that door. Go in, make a left, and it should be the first door on your right.â The professor instructed, âHe should be in there.â
âOkay. Thank you, maâam!â she hurried across the room and pushed through the door, following the professorâs instructions and finding his classroom much easier than she had initially. She knocked on the door to his office. âDr. Evans?â
âCome in.â
She opened the door slowly. She found him at his desk, typing on a computer. He paused for a moment, looking up toward the doorway with a small smile.
âHi. You must be (Y/N).â he stood and crossed the small room stalking over to her and offering his hand for her to shake. âItâs nice to meet you.â
âGreat to meet you as well, Dr. Evans.â She shook his hand eagerly. This was her first professional job, and wellâŚitâs helpful to have him as her boss.
Mainly to look at, but thatâs beside the point.
âOh, please. You can call me Chris.â He waved her off politely. âItâs just you and I here.â
She cleared her throat. âOkay.â
He made his way back to his seat behind the desk. âPlease, have a seat.â He gestured to the chair that sat on the opposite side of the desk.
She sat down tightly with her hands flattened under her thighsâsheâs a picker.
âWhatâs wrong?â
She shook her head tightly. âNothing.â
He noticed that her face read differently than her words were saying. She looked almost uncomfortable, unsettled. âAre you sure?â
âThis is just my first TA job so Iâm a bit nervous,â She was almost hesitant to tell him the truth. She rushed out, âhopefully that doesnât compromise my position.â
âNot at all! In fact, I think this is one of the easier classes to TA for, but maybe Iâm biased.â He chuckled. âSo, with that said, letâs go over your requirements. Hopefully I can put your mind at ease, okay?â
âOkay.â She smiled politely, trying to make herself relax but failing because Dr. EvansâChrisâwas quite different that was she thought he would be. He was tall, built, and had the prettiest eyes sheâd ever seen.
Sheâd assumed that he would look like Ebenezer Scrooge from the way her friends said he ran his class. By their record, he was a strict guyâvery unwavering with deadlines and course policies, sticks to his syllabus schedule, assigns a ton of work, and has an even stricter attendance policy.
But they also said he was nice, which was hard to come by with professors in this field. They could tell he was a good person deep down and liked what he taught but he was a hard ass.
And by her analyzation, that was true.
His desk was quite neat and polished; it smelled of air freshener in the room; there werenât any papers scattered aboutâwhich she was thankful for, because she cannot work with people who were unorganizedâand, most notably, there werenât any kind of photos hanging up. It was hard for her to determine whether he was a bachelor, or a married father that just kept things private.
Not that it matteredâŚbut she wanted to know.
âSo,â he turned one of his monitors to face her so that she could see his screen. âhereâs the syllabus. It seems like a lot, but I swear, it isnât.â he chuckled.
She hummed in response, beginning to read the lengthy document in her head as he spoke.
âBasically, your job will be to help me grade quizzes, labs, exams, and other assignments. Youâll also be required to proctor exams; I have another TA, Henryâheâs a graduate studentâthat will come in on exam days and proctor with you.â
She thought for a moment. âSo, if I may ask, what will you do?â
âTeach the class.â
âWell, I know that. I just meantâŚit seems like a lot for me to do, and Iâve heard about some professors on campus having their TAs run the class.â
âOh! Definitely not. Look, you seem great, and I have a feeling weâd get on well, but thereâs a specific way I want my material taught so thatâs not something youâd have to worry about.â He reassured her, noticing her body begin to relax. âWhat I will say, is there is a lot of content in my class, but the major graded assignments are few and far between, if that makes you feel better.â
She cocked an eyebrow.
âThe class is mostly lab-based. Youâll be grading lab prep work, mostlyâthen comes the occasional homework or quiz, and exams.â
âOh, okay. That makes more sense.â
He nodded. âGood.â
He scrolled down further into the document, showing his class policies.
âNow, these, I canât break on.â He sighed. âIâm sure youâve heard that Iâm a strict guy.â
âWhat?â she replied incredulously. âNo!â
He wanted to laugh. He could tell she was analyzing him, and she had to have heard something about him before the two of them met. âWell, itâs because a lot of the precautions are for the safety of us and the students.â
She scanned a random sentence on the page that read:
Students are required to be fully clothed on lab daysâno t-shirts, ripped clothing, or closed-toed shoes.
10 points will be deducted for wearing clothing that does not meet the above dress requirement. More than one violation on the lab dress requirement will result in a deduction from the LAB grade.
Yikes, she thought, heâs not joking around.
She found it understandable nonethelessâshe imagines it would be difficult to have a completely safe lab in a stuffy room while itâs still hot outside.
And sheâs heard that a lot of the laboratories on his side of campus donât have air conditioning, which was quite unfortunate this time of year.
âThe dress policy is the most heavily enforced one.â He shrugged. âI canât be held liable for studentsâ recklessness during labs.â
âHas the dress code been an issue previously?â she asked.
âNot for me, but I know itâs been one for the department, so Iâm just tryinâ to keep my name off the âinjury listâ.â
She nodded in understanding.
âI think thatâs pretty much it as far as the basics are concerned. Iâll send you a copy of my syllabus and calendar for the semester, as well as your contract.â He turned the monitor to face him again, typing quickly on his keyboard. âOh! And I should send you Henryâs information, too.â
âWhoâs Henry again?â
âHenry is a graduate TA. Iâve had him in my classes for a couple of years, and heâs a great student. I think he worked in the library over the summer, so you may know him.â
She shook her head. âNo, I donât.â
âWell, heâs a great person to know, not just for my class, but for your upper-level math and science classes.â He gushed. Clearly, he really liked having this âHenryâ as an assistant.
âOkay, Iâll be sure to keep that in mind.â
âGreat. And if you have any questions, shoot me an e-mail or a text and Iâll get back to you as soon as I can.â
âAlright.â She replied simply.
He stood, holding out his hand again. âIâm looking forward to working with you this semester, (Y/N).â
She took his hand, this time relishing in the softness of his skin and the firmness in his grip. âI am, too.â

Later that day, after sheâd completed the last assignments for her summer math class, she checked her e-mailâs inbox and found two messages from Chris and another from Henry, the godsend of a grad student.

From: Henry W. D. Cavill
Hi, (Y/N)! Itâs nice to âmeetâ you, Iâm Henry.
Chris has told me that youâre the new undergrad TA! Thatâs pretty impressive, honestlyâyouâre one of four undergraduate TAs in the entire Sciences department. Anyway, I just wanted to send you this e-mail to introduce myself and let you know that if you need anything, Iâm always available. I worked in the schoolâs library over the summer so if you need me immediately, thatâs usually where I spend my free time nowadays.
Iâm excited to work with you this semester! Maybe we could grab coffee and get to know each other better before classes start next week? Let me know.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Best wishes,
Cav
**
âCav?â she read aloud in disgust, âWhat the hell kind of a nickname is âCavâ?â She hoped that he didnât expect her to call him that because that was stupid.
At any rate, she could tell that he was much more laid back than Chris, which she was bound to enjoy. As nice as Chris was, she could tell that he was a bitâŚuptight. Henry, on the other hand, seemed more laid back if she used âCavâ as a form of evidence.
She could tell that he was a bookworm, too, because no-oneâno-one she knew, at leastâstays in the library unless they had to, or just liked reading.
Clearly he was a different breed. Â
She opened a new message to send a quick reply to his.

 To: Henry W.D. Cavill
Hi, Henry.
Itâs nice to hear from you as well. Iâve heard nothing but good things about you!
Iâm free tomorrow afternoon if you want to meet at The Bistro for coffee.
Let me know if that works for you.
Best,
(Y/N)
**
 There. Sweet and simple.
Donât be confused, eitherâshe wanted this position. It would open some doors for her down the line, especially if she can get on Chrisâ good side like Henry clearly has. She just hated formalities. The emails, the âtalk to you soon! âs, the âhope youâre well! âs it was too high-strung for her.
She is, though, determined to start everything on a good foot. So sheâll be polite, sheâll wish them well, whateverâshe just wanted to ensure that her success as an undergrad student wouldnât be hindered or jeopardized by her desire to be casual with whoâs really her boss and co-worker.
**
The next day, she mustered up the courage to throw on clothes and meet Henry at The Bistro, a cafĂŠ in the main square of the campus. She decided to dress nice, not entirely sure who she was meeting and wanting to make a good impression. Because âCavâ seemed like a decent guy, but you never know.
Honestly, she wanted to cancel but she knew that wouldnât look good.
She stepped through The Bistroâs doors, the cold air practically smacking her in the face. Normally she would despise the cold, especially on a day like this where it wasnât too hot and not at all humid; but today, she was grateful for the cold air that enwrapped her frame that was dressed in a black blazer and matching slacks.
She sent a message to Henry letting her know that she was there and sat at a table by the window.
Then she waited.
Ten minutes, then twenty, then thirty.
After forty minutes passed, she gathered her tote, phone, and keys, and made her way to the front door.
Before she could get to the door, a figure bumped into her, her body colliding with his hard chest. âOh, shit, sorry!â the mass of flesh exclaimed, âIâm running late for a meeting and I didnât watch where I was going.â
Her eyes met his as she took a step back. He was tall. His long brown hair was brushed behind one ear, cheeks flushed and pale, brown eyes wide.
He was cute.
âWait,â she replied, âare you Henry?â
âYeahâŚso?â
âSo?â she glared at him. âIâm (Y/N).â
His eyes widened even more, as if that were possible. âOh! Iâm so sorry Iâm late. My car broke down and I ended up having to walk here.â He ran a hand through his hair. âBut listen, if youâre still free, Iâd love to still talk with you.â
She didnât have anywhere to be, so why not? âSure.â
He let out a breath. âThank you.â
The two of them sat down at the table she picked, him slugging his shoulder bag off his body and onto the floor next to him. He folded his hands on the table and looked at her, watching as she fumbled through her bag for her planner and a pen.
âSo,â he started, âitâs nice to finally meet you in person.â
âYou, too.â She replied, her eyes not looking up.
âIâm usually the only TA in Chrisâ class, so itâs really cool to have someone else around. I canât tell you how frustrating it is to be the only one proctoring an exam in a class of three-hundred people.â
âThree-hundred people?â
âYeah. Sometimes itâs less, but thatâs the average. Itâs full of freshmen, too.â
She finally found her planner and a pen in the depths of her bag. âAre freshmen bad?â
He shook his head, âNot really, theyâre justâŚodd.â He shrugged. âSome of them want to learn, some donât, and you can tell right away. The ones that want to learn donât want helpâitâs always the procrastinators, the slackers, the ones that donât care that need you.â
âHow is that odd?â
âItâs strange to me, honestly. I didnât really care either way my freshman year. I wanted to learn but I didnât care enough to actually try.â
âSo what changed? Chris made you seem like you were some mythical being.â
He laughed. Sheâll admit, she was lost in his smile for a second. The glint in his eyes and the crinkle in his nose made her smile. âA mythical being?â he repeated. âIâm far from mythical. I think he gushes about me because I take over his office hours for him most days.â
That made her laugh. âWell, he seems to be appreciative of having you around. Hopefully I can be helpful.â
âIâm sure you can be,â he waved her off, âhe probably told you that his class wasnât that bad, but heâs totally lying. My first year helping him was roughâtoo much shit to do, and not enough time for it to get done.â
That sounded more accurate compared to what Chris told her yesterday. âI figured.â
âI mean, donât get me wrong, heâs a great professor, and an awesome mentor to haveâbut sometimes he downplays stuff. Heâll say itâs âno big dealâ, and itâll be like Armageddon for us.â
She nodded slowly. âAny advice for getting on his good side?â
He chuckled. âIf he likes you, youâll know. And if he likes you, heâll help you out. Heâs not at all unreasonable, either; so just tell him whatâs up when you have a problem, or if youâre overwhelmed, and heâll do what he can to help.â
âThatâs not what I heard.â She mumbled.
âWell, his students from last year will say heâs a dick, butâand you canât tell anyone I told you thisââ he leaned in closer, whispering, âhe went through a nasty divorce last fall.â
So he isnât married.
âOh, wow.â
âYeah. He wasnât in the best place, but Iâll admit heâs eased up quite a bit so you should be fine.â
âOkay, cool.â
âAnything else you want to know?â
She thought for a moment. âNot really, no.â
He smiled again, âAlright. Well it was great talking with you, and Iâm sorry again for being late.â
She shrugged, âShit happens.â
âYouâre exactly right. The meter maids are probably having a field day giving me tickets.â He stood from the table, putting his bag over his shoulder that was covered in a dark green jacket, brushing his hair behind his ears and away from his face.
She stood shortly after he did. âGood luck with that.â
âOh, trust me, it wouldnât be anything new for me to have a ticket by now. Iâve gotten five since May.â
Her eyes widened this time. âSeriously?â
âSeriously. The parking on campus is shit, you get in where you can. Open parking spaces are scarce, especially by Franklin HallâŚso sometimes I park on the street.â
Street parking is decal only. By the number of tickets heâd obtained, she deduced that he most likely had no decal. âHence all the tickets.â She finalized.
âYeah.â
âCriminal.â She shook her head jokingly.
âGuilty as charged.â He held out his wrists to her as if she was putting him in handcuffs. âSee you around, yeah?â
âYeah.â
Then he turned and left, moving quickly down the pavement.

FACTS.
Read about his family here! And where he grew up!
He was voted Home Coming King this year đ
When I say Ollie is a genius I mean that literally. He has an IQ score of 169 which is higher than people like Stephen Hawking and Einstein. Heâs been a member of Mensa since he was a freshman in High School, though he doesnât really like to talk about it too much.Â
He graduated High School early, and started college when he was only 17.
The first time he tried drugs he was 13, and he hasnât been sober since he was about 14 years old. Heâs not looking to get sober either, lest he have to deal with all the trauma and strain heâs put himself through (emotionally, mentally, and physically) because of his drug habits.Â
He is extremely good at ... people. Heâs just good at getting others to like him. He is so very charismatic and disarming, and tends to be more laid back and easy going. So, he is pretty well liked. But he can be a lot to handle, loves to make things awkward, and comes across as erratic at times so probably not everyone likes him.Â
He sells test answers and essays to people, regularly. Some of it he does himself (what heâs able to do), some of it he hacks the answers to and such. He has both regular customers, and some who just need some help, so donât feel afraid to ask. It can get pretty expensive depending on what youâre looking for though. A manâs gotta make a living.
He also sells drugs, but he sells drugs for Monty. So if you buy from Ollie youâre buying from Monty. Just consider him to be working the register, not running anything. Heâll just give his own drugs away if he likes you though. Itâs a love language.
Ollie isnât completely sure what he wants to do after finishing his undergrad studies. Heâs planning on continuing into getting his Masters in Computer Science, but where that happens is still in the air really. He might stay at Ogden he might go to a STEM focused school, he might just burn out and not do that at all. Who knows.

what the fuck, gay little edgar
(also on ao3)
wc: 1.5k
i havent written about king lear in a while huh. anyways funny gay people
Something the peace of an isolated country town offered was the lone coffee store. Maybe there were no fantastic shops, or entertainment, or places to go, but at least there was the coffee shop, right on the corner and hidden in the basement of an older building. It was the perfect meeting place, and the perfect refuge for a shivering and rain-soaked Edgar, struggling with his bag as he stumbled down the steps. His arrival was announced with the chime of a bell, and the door swung shut behind him.Â
He was greeted immediately by Cordelia, who accosted him by the arm and dragged him to their corner table before he could even so much as look at the cashiers. âI thought you might have forgotten!â she exclaimed, mary-janes clicking on the tile floor.Â
âNo, it was just rainy. Very rainy, as a matter of fact.â
She looked him over before plopping in her booth. âI can tell.â
âAhaha. Thanks,â he replied. Pushing his wet hair out of his face and flashing a pointed eye roll, he took a seat across from her. âI already got you a coffee. You can pay me back later, donât worry,â she announced proudly, sliding him the paper cup with a smile.
He stared blankly into the cup and loosened his tie. âThanks.â Then, âI havenât seen you in a while.â
âYeah, I know, Dadâs been dragging me everywhere but school,â she replied, raising her eyebrows and lifting the coffee to her lips. âHowâs your studies?â
âOh, you know, greatâŚâ Edgar muttered, sheepishly turning his gaze to look out the window. Rain pattered down on the fogged glass. âI donât know. Havenât figured out anything I want to take my A-Levels for.â
âThere must be something that interests you. History? How about French? Science? Anything you particularly enjoy?â
âI donât particularly enjoy academics as it is,â Edgar huffed, blowing off the steam that had gathered above the cup. âEdmund says Iâm a mean footballer. Heâs better at that academic crap.â
Cordelia shifted at the mention of his brother, crossing her argyle tights and smoothing her skirt. âHow is Edmund, anyhow?â She glanced out the window, then eyed Edgar again. âAnd perhaps you should get him to tutor you.â
âMy snot-nosed brother has more interesting things to do than tutor the likes of me, such as a production of Anything Goes to attend to,â he snorted.
Cordelia grinned, fidgeting with one of her earrings as she spoke. âI didnât know Edmund could sing.â
âHe canât, actually. Assistant stage manager,â Edgar winked. âBoosted his ego more than ever before. Trust me, you donât want to hear him sing, unless youâd like to go to the doctorâs for an ear infection.â
âAh, yes, the unadulterated ego of a primary school theatre kid,â she said wistfully, holding her paper cup to the light.
Edgar leaned back, raising his eyes to the ceiling. âAnd how are your studies?â
Cordelia huffed, pushing her cup aside. âNonexistent. Dad and his advisors would prefer me to be fawning over dresses. At least I get to spend time with my sisters, butââ she cleared her throat. âIâve been thinking of applying to go to school in the states.â
âThe states?! Talk about creating distance. Youâd go that far to get away from this?â Edgar asked, cocking an eyebrow.
âUh, yeah. I donât want to do this obsolete crap. Iâd rather go to California, or something, and wear what I want,â she grumbled. âCertainly not ballgowns. Well, maybe you should consider football. Soccer, whatever. Come to Cali with me.â
âEh, I donât really have a choice. Dadâs been waiting for me to inherit the earldom since day one,â Edgar replied, folding his hands. âWould be fun though.â
âWhy canât Edmund just take it?â she asked, innocuous, drawing her finger over the rim of the coffee cup.Â
Edgar rolled his eyes again. âYou know as well as I do that that wonât happen.â
âIn a perfect worldâŚâ Cordelia said, drawing out another long and wistful sigh and batting her fake eyelashes. âNow, why have you called this meeting here, your grace?â
He cleared his throat, fidgeting with his tie and collar and sitting up in the proper way. âIâve come to discuss certain romantic developments thatâve happened.â
âOh, who?!â Cordelia squealed and grabbed Edgarâs hand, swinging it back and forth. âYour first partner! Whatâs their name? Are they at court? I must know this instant. I can get Mr. Kent to arrange a date if so. My goodness! My little godbrother, finding the love of his life!â
âNo, itâs not like that,â Edgar mumbled, his face hot with embarrassment. âItâs something else. Plus, you are but nine months my senior, Cordelia.â
âNine months makes but all the difference in the world. Now tell me, what is this regarding?â She leaned forward in interest, hands folded.
âOh, Cordelia.â Edgar looked away sheepishly, tugging at the loop of his tie before turning back and keeping his gaze on her mary-janes. âI think, I think, I may be, umâŚâ He looked up, a shade of red, before turning away again. âI may be unable to carry on the bloodline of my father.â
Cordelia cocked an eyebrow. âExcuse me?â
Edgar hushed his voice and placed his hands on the back of his head. âI think Iâm gay.â
Cordelia sat, dumbfounded, as he continued in a panic. âYou see, I took this quiz, and, and, it all made sense. Thatâs not the reason I think Iâm gay, though, you know, I think Iâve always known, because every time my dad tried to set me up with some girl from the court I just feel nothing. I look at those women on TV and I feel nothing. You must understand, right? I mean, youâreââ Edgar cut himself off, hiding his face in his hands. âI didnât mean it that way. I just always thought, well, you, maybe, were, um, like me. And, well, Edmund has experience with this too but I always thought that, wellâŚâ His tirade drew to its close and he inhaled a sharp breath. âIâm sorry.â
They sat in silence for a few moments before Cordelia started to laugh. âNo, no. Donât apologize, youâre fine. Youâre right. Thank you for trusting me. Iâm bisexual myself, so, yes, I do quite understand your struggle,â Cordelia waved her hands and winked. âMy sisters know. They donât really understand, of course, but they know. My dad, on the other handâŚâ She trailed off and smiled halfheartedly. âSo, Edmund knows?â
âWe use the same computer so he at least suspects something,â Edgar coughed. âWell, Iâm confident he wonât judge me. But my father, oh, my dad! I donât know what heâll do! His first son, his proudest achievement, killing off the Gloucester bloodline forever!â
âEdmund can still have children though, no?â she asked, eyebrow cocked.
âWell, um, I supposeâ Cordelia,â he mumbled, shoving his face back into his hands. âI donât know what Iâll tell him. Heâs already disappointed that I donât know or care for the first thing about politics, and now, well, I just donât know.â Edgar shifted in his seat, hands drumming on the table. âGod, Iâm sorry to be dumping all of this on you.â
âDonât apologize. You donât have to apologize to me,â she insisted, smiling. âIf thereâs one thing I know about your father, itâs that he loves you. Very much. He may not always show that love in the right ways, but I can assure you he does. Trust me, Iâve learned that the hard way.â She outstretched her hand and linked it with his. âItâs really your decision. If you feel safe or not, itâs your choice, and I canât make it for you. Just remember, heâs your dad.â
âYeah, my dad,â Edgar muttered, rolling his eyes. âStupid fucking dad living vicariously through his son.â He slurped the rest of the coffee and slammed the paper cup down. âI hate it here.â
âNot the coffee shop, though?â
âNo, I just hate it here,â he grumbled, puffing his cheeks. âYouâre right, monarchies should be obsolete.â
Cordelia threw her head back and laughed. âAnd I thought you knew nothing of politics, Edgar!â Her eyes sparkled as she tossed her hair back over her shoulders. âAt least you have the right idea about it.â
An anxious look crossed Edgarâs face, and she grabbed his hand. âHey. Youâll be fine. Weâll make it out sooner or later.â She leaned forward and cupped her hand around his ear. âOr, escape to the States with me and we can go surfing or something.â
Edgar closed his eyes and snorted. âRight, surfing. Thatâs on the top of my bucket list.â He sighed, resting his head in his hands and gazing back at Cordeliaâs warm gaze. âYouâre right. Weâre going to be just fine.â
âJust fine,â she repeated. âPromise.â

Misunderstandings
Mark Tuan X Reader
Word Count: 5.3k
Summary: Youâre failing your marine biology class and your best friend Youngjae recommends you sign up for tutoring. When you walk in to the tutoring center and your eyes land on the handsome boy who claims to be your tutor, you grow excited to start your sessions but you donât know whether itâs because you have hope to pass your class or because you get to spend time with Mark. As the weeks go by, you end up developing feelings for the older boy and little do you know, he ends up falling for you too.
A/N: My last day of class was yesterday and I wrote this story last week the day before my finals and I was failing my marine biology class (please do not sign up for marine biology unless youâre passionate about science because I did not understand a fucking thing but ya girl got a C GOD BLESS) the thought of Mark as a tutor makes me cry I would purposely fail a class just to have him tutor me
âY/n, itâs really not that bad. A 64 is still passing. Dâs get degreesââÂ
You yanked your quiz from your best friendâs hands and began to walk away out of frustration. You had taken your midterms just a few days ago and youâve been studying for all five of your classes for the last month. There was no problem with any of your four other classes. However, science was never your forte; specifically marine biology.Â
When you were first signing up for classes, the idea of learning more about the ocean and marine animals intrigued you. Therefore, you didnât hesitate to add Marine 465 to your schedule. Unfortunately, once you began the class you were ultimately regretting your decision.Â
For the most part, you considered yourself to be pretty smart. Sure, some classes were easier than others but you always tried your best when it came to your education no matter how hard the subject was. Youâd put in more time in studying and went the extra mile to make sure you succeeded no matter how difficult the class was.Â
As soon as your professor started with his lectures, you felt extremely lost and no matter how hard you studied, you werenât retaining any information. It was as if everything you learned about sea level rise, coral bleaching and erosion went through one ear and out the other. When you received the exam a few days prior, your heart immediately sank like it normally did whenever youâd take the first look at an exam and did not understand a single thing.Â
You were sure you studied for this midterm the longest out of all your classes but no matter how hard you tried, you just werenât meant to do well. You answered every single question to the best of your ability and you had a tiny bit of hope that you did decently; but when your professor passed back your graded tests right before ending class, you were on the verge of tears.
âYoungjae, I am a nursing major. I canât get anything lower than an A. This is so disappointing. Might as well turn in my scrubs now and drop out of the program. Thereâs no use! Nothing is going to help me at this point. Thereâs only one more assignment and thatâs the final exam. Even if I do well on my exam, the highest grade Iâll get is a B. A B isnât good enough Jae. Fuck science. What does marine biology even have to do with nursing? I donât recall having to give shots to sea turtles!âÂ
The older boy caught up to you and pulled you into his embrace in attempts to calm you down. After six years of friendship, he was completely aware of what a goal driven person you were. Whatever you set your mind to, youâd do anything in your power to achieve it. After taking a look at the grade you were given, Youngjae knew that chances of you getting an A were extremely slim; but it didnât mean it was impossible.Â
Your best friend saw you through both your highest and lowest points and he knew you could handle anything negative that life threw at you. Your marine biology class was no exception.Â
âI really donât know what to do other than withdrawal and retake it again next semester.â You released an exhausted sigh before taking a seat on the nearest bench.Â
âHave you ever thought about tutoring? Oh come on, donât give me that look. What? Is the great y/n y/l/n too good for tutoring? Even the smartest students ask for help sometimes y/n, it wouldnât hurt for you to ask for help once in a while. Maybe youâll have an easier time learning from someone one on one rather than when your professor teaches your entire class. Iâll even go with you if thatâll make you feel more comfortable.âÂ
You gave him a soft smile before ruffling his hair. âFine. Weâll go tomorrow. But if one of those nerds wants to get smart with me, I wonât hesitate to throw hands.â Youngjaeâs laughter engulfed throughout the front lawn as the two of you continued to make your way to your last class.Â
The next day, you found yourself hiding in the library and began ignoring Youngjaeâs calls and texts to find out where you were. Right after he dropped you off to your apartment the night before, you decided that you did not want to go along with having to seek help with your studies. To say you were a stubborn person was an understatement and you knew you were being childish trying to refuse Youngjaeâs attempts at trying to help you with your grades; but you hated the thought of having to be tutored because it reminded you that maybe you werenât necessarily great at everything as much as you wanted to be.Â
Knowing how you could be, he knew exactly why you werenât answering his calls and he was well aware that you were planning on running away from his recommendation. One thing Youngjae loved most about you was your confidence and how you had such a good head on your shoulders. It was also something he cared about the least seeing as how you refused help from others no matter how much you obviously needed it. He began to search for you throughout the entire campus and since he knew you like the back of his hand, it didnât take him long to find you.Â
When you felt an arm on your shoulder, you jumped in surprise but released a frustrated grunt when you realized who it was. âYoungjaeââ he shook his head before gathering up your things and reached for your hand.Â
âYouâre not getting out of this. Y/n, just because youâre receiving help from someone else, doesnât mean youâre any less smarter than you are. Stop being so stubborn. The tutors are genuinely nice people and they just want to help you. If you keep this act up then just take the F already. I donât know what else to do for you!âÂ
Seeing your best friend so upset over something that wasnât even his fault made you feel like a terrible person. He was only trying to help you because he hated seeing you beat yourself up over something he knew you tried your best at. Which is why you pulled him in to your embrace and leaned your head on his shoulder while whispering countless apologies against the juncture of his neck and finally agreeing to receiving help from a tutor.Â
Youâve never been to the tutoring center before because you instilled it in yourself that tutoring was the last thing you ever wanted to go through but you were desperate.Â
âHi, how can we help you today?âÂ
For a moment, you felt like a little kid. Since you only agreed to be there a few minutes ago, you didnât really understand how the tutoring center worked. You turned around to Youngjae and gave him a knowing look to which he sighed.
âSheâs not doing too well in her marine biology class and needs a tutor.âÂ
The girl at the counter nodded in understanding before taking a look at her computer. After a couple of seconds, she picked up her phone and dialed whom you assumed to be your tutor.Â
âMark will be here in a few minutes. Please sign in and have a seat over there.â
You did as you were told and sat down on one of the couches before beginning to pick at your nails nervously. Youngjae gently squeezed your thigh before gently shoving you.Â
âHey, itâs just tutoring. Youâre acting as youâre going for a job interview or something. Itâs going to be just fine.âÂ
You heard some sneakers against the ground and when you looked up, your eyes widened in shock. He wasnât someone youâd expect to be a tutor. As much as you didnât want to be stereotypical and assume that all tutors were someone who wore glasses and suspenders, that was your idea of what your tutor would look like.Â
The boy standing in front of you was wearing converse, a pair of gray sweats and a flannel. His hair was dark brown with soft, fluffy curls and the toothy grin he flashed you made your cheeks warm.Â
âY/n? Hey, Iâm Mark. Follow me.âÂ
Youngjae gave you a wink before shoving you towards the extremely good looking boy.Â
âSo, I was told you need some help in marine biology. Do you mind taking out some of your homework and maybe some of your notes so I can get an idea of what you might need help with?âÂ
You sat down at the table with all of his things and began to pull out everything he was asking for from your backpack. After you took out your work and handed it to him, he started to look over your papers and began writing something down.Â
âThese are really good notes, but I think youâre having a hard time with analyzing and understanding the material. Thatâs why Iâm here.âÂ
For three hours, Mark tried his best in making the lessons easier for you to comprehend by drawing out some key terms that he thought would help you get an idea of marine life. Once he felt you had enough for the day, he handed you back your papers and gave you a soft smile.Â
âGood work today. Iâm sorry if you still are having a hard time understanding, but Iâll be glad to help you up until your finals. How does that sound?âÂ
The idea of spending more time with him sent a warm feeling to your tummy. Throughout your entire session, he was extremely patient with you and even threw in a couple of jokes to make the atmosphere more relaxing. He even let you take a couple breaks as the two of you began asking each other a couple of questions to become more familiar with one another.Â
You found out he was an engineering major but he was minoring in marine biology. From the time he was younger, he was always fascinated with the ocean and wanted to find ways to help preserve it. Hearing him talk about how passionate he was in finding solutions for climate change and coral bleaching brought you in a daze. Before you could leave, you both exchanged numbers and planned another day to meet up again.Â
Once you began making your way back to where Youngjae was, you could feel your heart rate increase at the thought of seeing Mark again.Â
âSo, how did it go?â You shrugged before motioning for him to get up.Â
âIt was okay. Heâs nice and you can tell heâs very passionate about marine biology. But I just have a hard time grasping the information. I donât know about this Jae. Itâs useless. I donât want to waste his time.âÂ
Youngjae grabbed your backpack and your books as the two of you began walking towards his car. If there was anything Youngjae hated, it was hearing you talk so negatively about yourself.Â
âY/n, youâre not wasting his time. He signed up to do this for a reason. Youâre not going to retain all this information in one session. Youâre going to have to meet up with him multiple times in order to complete understand everything your professor is teaching you. I wasnât there to see how he goes about with teaching you, but Iâm sure they donât let just anybody become a tutor. Donât give up before actually trying okay? He could be the reason youâll get an A at the end of the semester so just hang in there.âÂ
You werenât afraid of Mark not being able to help you raise your grade. It was obvious he knew what he was talking about. You were afraid of gaining feelings for him because you felt that he would only become a distraction. It was already hard enough for you to learn about marine life, what more if you were to develop a crush on the person whose supposed to be teaching it to you?Â
Over the course of a month, youâd meet up with Mark on Mondayâs, Wednesdayâs and Fridayâs from 2:30 to 5:00. It didnât take you long to finally get the hang of understanding the lessons your professor would teach you in class and you were excited when you found yourself catching on to the information Mark was giving you.Â
Unfortunately, your feelings for Mark only grew more and more with each and every session. Youâd catch yourself stealing glances at him every so often and daydream about what it would be like to kiss his cute little heart shaped lips, to run your fingers through his curly locks, to hold his pretty hands and to be held by him. But it was dangerous to think like that. No matter how kind he was to you, he never showed any interest in you and you had to accept that all youâd ever be to him was just another person heâd tutor.Â
There were a couple of times Mark attended class with you in order for him to find out why you were having such a hard time learning and the thought of him taking time out of his day just to sit in on your marine biology class made your heart flutter like a school girl. He only wants to see how the professor is teaching so that he can make the lessons simpler for you stop giving yourself false hope y/n.Â
Finally, the day of your final exam came and you were extremely nervous to say the least. No matter how long youâve been preparing for this, all the sleepless nights youâd stay up studying on top of your tutoring sessions with Mark; you didnât think you were ready to take it.Â
As you made your way in to the lecture hall, you could feel your palms getting sweaty as your heart rate began to increase and it wasnât a good feeling. Right before class could start, you felt a vibration coming from your bag and when you checked your phone to see the notification, a huge smile rose on your face.
Markđ¤: Good luck today y/n. Youâll do great! I believe in you. Letâs meet up once youâre done with the exam. You got this!đđť
Most people would consider it such a simple text of encouragement, but to you it meant the world. He had faith in you and with that knowledge alone, a burst of confidence ran through your veins and as soon as your professor passed out the exams, you began answering every single question without hesitation. It felt as if Mark was right next to you, cheering you on and it was such an amazing feeling.Â
Everything heâs been teaching you for the last two months just kept flowing through your mind and before you knew it, you were finished. You took a few moments to go over your test to make sure you answered them to the best of your knowledge and once you were done you handed in your exam and dialed Markâs number.Â
âHey y/n! How did it go?â You hummed cheerfully as you made your way down the hall.Â
âIâd like to think it went well, but we wonât know until next week. Where are you? I wanna treat you to lunch as a small thank you for all your help.âÂ
Although you couldnât see him, you knew he was probably smirking at the idea of food. A lot of your sessions were held at the cafeteria and the coffee shop on campus because Mark loved to eat. His love for food was adorable, and so was he. Only then did it hit you that you would no longer be needed Markâs help and you felt your chest getting heavy when you realized you wouldnât get to see him anymore. Other than Youngjae, Mark was one of the only people who genuinely made you happy. In fact, he was one of your only sources of happiness and you wanted to be with him as much as you could.Â
âIâm in the library, but Iâll make my way to you so you donât have to walk so far. Are you still in the science building?â You absentmindedly smiled knowing he wanted to make things easier for you by meeting you half way.Â
âYeah. Iâll be sitting by the front door. See you soon.â While you were waiting, you took out your phone and texted Youngjae that you were finished with the exam. He was quick to respond and asked you if you wanted to go out and celebrate to which you let him know that you were treating Mark to lunch. Knowing how your best friend could be and how heâs been teasing you about Mark ever since the day he began tutoring you, you werenât surprised to read the messages he sent you.
đŚŚ: Can I tag along? Or are you finally going tell lover boy how you feel about him? Come on y/n, itâs been months. The worst he can do is tell you he doesnât feel the same and you can go back to being strangers. The y/n I know is an extremely courageous person who will do whatever she possibly can to get what she wants and a boy is no different.
đŚŚ: But Iâve seen the way he looks at you when he thinks youâre not looking. He gets all starry eyed and shit. As if the sun shines out of your ass.
đŚŚ: make me proud y/n đ
It didnât take Youngjae long to realize you had feelings for Mark. Youâve never really had a crush before, so Youngjae knew there was meaning behind the blush on your cheeks and how flustered youâd get after every session with Mark. He was also quick to notice how you were always holding your phone as if you were waiting for a text from someone. When he confronted you about it, he was shocked when you didnât try to lie about it and he was also secretly very excited. Heâs been rooting for the two of you ever since Mark introduced himself for the first time two months ago.Â
If Youngjae had it his way, he wouldâve went up to Mark and confessed your feelings for him a long time ago, but he was never one to get involved in your personal life if you didnât want him to.
âHey, ready to go?â You nodded in agreement as he grabbed your books and slung your backpack over his shoulder like he normally did. It was little gestures like this that made you feel like he had reciprocated your feelings but then again, he was a gentleman to everyone. Youâve witnessed how heâd hold doors for everyone, how he always greeted someone he knew and how heâd always lend a hand if he felt like someone was in need. It was just who he was and you couldnât confuse his acts of kindness for romantic feelings.Â
The walk to his car was quiet, but it was a peaceful kind of silence. However, once he opened your door and you both got inside, he turned on the radio and began to sing along. He did this every time the two of you would go somewhere off campus. Mark was an actual ray of sunshine and sometimes heâd even get you to sing along.Â
Sometimes, youâd find yourself dozing off at the thought of holding his hand that he wasnât using to drive and leaving a kiss on his cheek at a stoplight. A lot of the times you would day dream, it would be made up scenarios of him and what it would be like to date him. You were suddenly broken out of your thoughts when he softly tapped on your thigh to let you know that you both arrived to the restaurant.Â
Lunch was amazing. He made you go over the test questions and your responses for a small portion of it before beginning many conversations with you about anything your hearts desired. Conversation flowed smoothly between the both of you as if you had been friends for years and every time he laughed at something you had said, you could feel butterflies fill up the entirety of your tummy. Mark had such a distinct laugh and for someone who looked as manly and broad as he did, you wouldnât expect such a adorable and extremely high pitched laugh to come out of him. It was your favorite sound and you were happy knowing you were the cause of it.Â
To your dismay, your time together was soon coming to an end and you were surprised to find out that youâve been at lunch with Mark for almost three hours. People werenât kidding when they say time flies when youâre having fun. After you finished paying, you walked back to his car and he began to drive you back to your apartment. The confession was at the tip of your tongue. Youngjaeâs words filled your mind. The worst he can do is tell you he doesnât feel the same.Â
As much as you wanted to know whether or not he harbored the same feelings for you, you didnât want to make a fool out of yourself if you found out he didnât see you in that way.Â
âHey, everything okay?â You looked at him in curiosity and gave him a fake smile.Â
âIâm fine. Just nervous about what I got on the exam but Iâll be fine. Thanks for dropping me off.âÂ
He playfully pinched your cheek and made his way out of the car in order to open your door for you. Sometimes you hated how much of a gentleman he was, it only made your feelings for him grow stronger.Â
âOf course! Thanks again for lunch. By the way, you have nothing to worry about y/n, Iâm sure you did great. Donât forget to text me as soon as you get the results. Until then, good luck with the rest of your exams. Have a nice rest of your day.âÂ
As you watched him drive away, you felt your heart sink. I like you. Why was it hard so hard to say those three words? Now youâd never know how he felt about you nor did you know when the next time youâd see him is. But if he liked you, wouldnât he have made a move on you already?Â
Exactly a week later, your professor emailed you and the rest of your class that grades were posted. Your fingers hovered over your log in but a part of you was hesitant to see what grade you were given. You were sure your heart was about to jump out of your chest and you had wished Youngjae was at your side when you were to find out the results. Or even better, Mark.Â
You sent him a quick text to see where he was and what he was up to and he let you know that he was at his apartment. He asked if you wanted to go over causing heat to rise upon your cheeks. Youâve never been to his apartment before, so the idea excited you and you couldnât wait to see him again. One week away from him was torture and you didnât know how your life was going to be now that you no longer needed his help. He gave you the directions to his apartment and you quickly got ready so you could go and give him the news. The drive to his place felt like forever and you knew it was because you were on your way to see the boy who owned your heart.Â
Once you parked your car and made your way up to his apartment, you could feel your palms getting sweaty and you soon grew nauseous. You giggled when you saw his doormat; of course heâd get one with marine animals on it. After taking a moment to breathe, you softly knocked on his door and waited for him to open it.Â
As soon as he opened the door and you saw that he was only wearing basketball shorts you coughed up a bit and internally screamed at yourself for doing so. You knew Mark was built, but you didnât think he was hiding a six pack and a very defined v-line under all of those flannels and sweatshirts.Â
âHey y/n! Sorry about the lack of clothing, Iâm doing a load of laundry. Can I get you something to drink or eat?â You were still so focused on how attractive Mark was and how you were alone with him in his apartment to the point where you almost forgot the reason for being there.Â
âNo thank you. I um, I actually came here because I got the exam results and I didnât want to look at them by myself so I thought Iâd look at them with you. Iâm sorry if I interrupted you.â He shook his head in disagreement before taking a seat next to you on his couch.Â
âDonât worry about it. Iâm never too busy for you and I wanted to know what you got! Iâm not even the one who took the exam and Ive been anticipating your grade the entire week. But I know itâs because I saw how much time and effort you put in studying for this exam. So letâs see what your score is.âÂ
He sent you a wink and you were sure you were now red as a tomato from both the gesture and his words. You took out your phone and logged in to your school account. After you pulled up your name, you immediately handed him the phone and covered your eyes.Â
âYou look at it, I canât do it.â He giggled softly at your worried expression before scrolling through your phone. When you didnât hear anything from him after a few moments, your heart began to sink. That was all until you were being lifted off of the couch and pulled in to Markâs arms. He wrapped his arms around your thighs and spun you around.Â
âCongratulations y/n! You got a 98! See, I told you there was nothing to worry about! I knew you had it in you. Iâm so proud of you.âÂ
Right as you were about to respond, his lips were on yours. It was as if time stopped and the room began spinning. You couldâve sworn you were dreaming yet you found yourself deepening the kiss as your arms made their way around his neck. His lips tasted like a mixture of mangoes and Cheetos puffs; an odd combination but one that you were now in love with because it was unique, just like him. All too suddenly, he pulled away and placed you down while beginning to pace back and forth around his living room.Â
âY/n, Iâm so sorry. That was so uncalled for I shouldnât have done that. I donât know what came over me. Please donât tell your boyfriendââÂ
You looked at him in confusion before asking him what he was talking about. âThat guy youâre always with. The one who waits for you during our tutoring sessions. Is he not your boyfriend?â It all made sense now. The reason why Mark wasnât taking things further in your relationship was because he thought Youngjae was your boyfriend. That took a weight off of your shoulders.Â
âNo. Thatâs my best friend Youngjae. Heâs been telling me to confess my feelings to you for over a month now but I was afraid you didnât like me. Iâm hoping that kiss meant that you do or else Iâll be taking my leave now.âÂ
You began walking towards the door but you were soon colliding with his broad chest while his hands made their way down to your waist.Â
âI like you a lot y/n. More than Iâd like to admit if Iâm being honest. I just assumed you and Youngjae were a couple when I first saw the two of you together. I realized I was developing feelings for you around our third meeting when you went in to detail about why you want to become a nurse. Seeing how wide your eyes got in excitement as you described your love for helping others made my heart combust. Youâre so adorable, you know that? Extremely beautiful too. And as I got to see how dedicated you were to your studies and your education, it made me come to terms with my feelings and I finally accepted them even if I felt like it was wrong having a crush on you while thinking you had a boyfriend.âÂ
He stole one more kiss from the corner of your lips and placed some hair behind your ear. âI looked forward to every single tutoring session and I donât know if you noticed, but I would throw in some topics that had nothing to do with what I was teaching you that day just to prolong our time together. You are the most unique and interesting person Iâve ever met. You do this thing with your nose when youâre deep in concentration and the image would never leave my mind. Youâre an extraordinary person y/n and it would mean a lot to me if you agreed to being my girlfriend.âÂ
You grinned at his confession before nodding in agreement and reconnecting your lips together.Â
âIâm really glad Youngjae forced me to get tutoring.â He snickered before bringing his fingers up to your face and tracing your features.Â
âAnd Iâm really glad you suck in marine biologyâowâwhat? Iâm just being honest babeâstop that!â He pulled you on to his lap and placed his head on your shoulder. âSince were a couple now, can I use some pickup lines on you?â You playfully rolled your eyes before sarcastically groaning.Â
âAre you an octopus? Because you octopi my thoughts.âÂ
You hid your face in his neck from embarrassment. âWhat? You have to be honest y/n, that one was cute. And itâs the truth! Okay fine, how about this one, letâs cuttleâdonât look at me like that, I thought that one was pretty clever. What about whale you be mineââÂ
You brought your hand up to his lips to prevent him from talking. This boy was honestly going to be the death of you. But you couldnât wait to see what the future held for the two of you.Â
âYouâre lucky youâre cute because those pick up lines are terrible.â He let out a scoff before picking you up and throwing you over his shoulder.Â
âIâm going to pretend you didnât say that. Letâs go baby, we have some celebrating to do.â
