Every time I see a little piece of lore abt seb or fernando I've never seen before, i just have this deep yearning desire to write a boy king au one-shot purely about that concept aaaaaaghhhhhh(now let me instead proceed to write out all my ideas in the tags rather than in the main post. for some reason.)
#ruthless angry little seb thats absolutely nothing like what peoplr are used to.........#perhaps another kingdom has declared war!#i have other wips abt him getting genuinely upset or genuinely ruthless#but smth abt prev post abt the sudden unrecognizable anger/frustration is SOOOOOOOO#it could be against fernando like he finds out hes been doing shit behind his back#but also the idea of fernando witnessing that sudden shift in behavior as an outside observer is good#bcs hes gonna rationalize it differently when its directed at him vs witnessing it more impartiality#but i think it being abt seb's capacity as a ruler is more hard hitting#bcs thats probably the thing fernando scrutinizes the most#so seeing seb actually become enraged and serious would be SO shocking#compared to seb getting angry at him personally(though also a good idea)#do you get what i mean though?#that its one thing to witness someone get angry/serious in a personal context#vs in a public/political context where nando feels like hes actually truly–#–*seeing* seb as Emperor Sebastian I for what is practically the first time ever#suddenly being hit w the feeling of. oh shit that IS the Emperor. he IS the sovereign#thinking deeply........#ref#boy king au#catie.rambling.txt

Okay, so, some Falcon and the Winter Soldier thoughts (will have some spoilers) for episodes two and three. General non-spoilery comment first: I feel like these were both *okay* episodes - neither as good as the first, but I didn’t dislike them, either. I’m still really curious to see how we’re going to wrap this all up in three more episodes; it doesn’t feel like we’re halfway done yet!
Okay, more spoiler-y notes below the Read More, not in any real order, just as I think and type. I’ll probably forget some things, but for now, here’re some thoughts...
--I like ep 3 slightly more than ep 2, mostly because of Zemo!
--I actually really love Zemo here (I liked him in Civil War, too): complex, sardonic, enjoying poking at people, a villain we do feel sympathy for even as he’s still sharp enough to remind us that he is a villain. Daniel Bruhl has always done a fantastic job flipping between calculated cruelty, wry humor - the whole “I am a Baron” moment was great - and pain that for him is still raw, about the loss of his family. (Some things’re awfully cliche - look, the supervillain’s playing chess and reading Machiavelli in his cell? really? - but, y’know...sure. Why not. We expect some cliches in the superhero genre, and this is an inoffensive one.)
--also Zemo dancing. That’s it. That’s everything.
--moving on from that: I’m also really liking how they’re writing John Walker. He does have charm, and there’s a certain amount of sympathy - especially as we see him worrying about filling the Captain America shoes, in ep 2 - but we’re also getting this really subtle sense of wrongness about him. He’s clearly vindictive and angry when things (and people) don’t act according to his mental script for them, and he’s willing to use his name and power to do things like get Bucky released...which in context and given our sympathies for Bucky is a good thing, but...it’s also an indicator of his willingness to do what he wants, because he can. (To be fair, Steve Rogers also often did that! - but Steve earned our trust, both in narrative and character. From his first introduction to WWII leadership experience to all the Avengers stuff, Steve consistently acts to protect people, and he’ll also listen if someone else has a good idea or if someone needs to talk, like with Wanda.) So I’m really liking this slow-fuse character development.
--mixed feelings about Sharon. I love that the show’s acknowledging how much she sacrificed for our main heroes, with no reward. On the other hand, she also clearly knew the consequences that could happen; she said as much at the time. The level of bitterness seems like a lot. But I’m also interested in everything we still don’t know about her - if she’s not the Power Broker herself, she’s obviously Up To Something. So that should be fun.
--hey, look at that X-Men location, with Majipoor! Also a nod to Wolverine’s favorite bar there, I think?
--I love heist and disguise plots!
--I also really like Bucky’s having to revert to the Winter Soldier - Sebastian Stan does it so brilliantly, with so many layers of emotion: not wanting to, loathing it, recognizing the necessity, shutting off all emotion and just coldly doing it, hurting but covering it up...just fantastic, and you know I love some hurt/comfort, and this seems like such a great set-up for emotional hurt
--but! this also seems like...a weird plot hole, kind of? Bucky’s pretty famous at this point, right? I imagine the criminal underworld knows he’s been pardoned and deprogrammed, right? or do they assume Zemo, with his knowledge of Hydra, still has some special control over him?
--along the same “this seems like someone didn’t think this through” path, Sam, you’re a professional, turn off your phone on a mission. Oh my god. Face-palmingly stupid - and I think somewhat lazy writing, as the writers plainly needed a giveaway, and went for the first idea they had. Even if it made a main character look incompetent.
--the Flag Smashers and Karli are...fine. They feel very Generic Marvel Villain - not the big space alien type, but the other type, the “I have a personal loss and motivating pain so I’m a little sympathetic but also Clearly Evil, watch me kill civilians so the audience won’t ever find me TOO sympathetic” type. Meh. Fine. Zemo’s more interesting, but...fine.
--Anthony Mackie is such a fantastic actor - every bit of his reaction to the Isaiah Bradley reveal is so good. The anger, pain, frustration, ferocity...heartbreaking. Actually that whole scene is so good - his emotions at discovering this secret history are palpable, and it’s so painful, because we also understand why Bucky would keep the secret - as someone who knows about pain and trauma and being experimented on, and knowing Isaiah wants to be left alone - we feel really deeply for both characters here, and it’s great.
--I actually liked the abrupt swing from the Isaiah Bradley encounter to the casual everyday racism of the cops on the street - is it subtle, no. But it’s not meant to be: it’s meant to be standing up and shouting about how not that much has really changed, and about how pervasive racism is. I know some reviews were all, “this was just too much!” or “too forced!” but...look, it needs to be shouted sometimes for people to hear.
--Bucky’s notebook being Steve’s, oh, ouch, my feelings. If I had the time and energy to write fic...
--(also, if I had the time and energy to write dark!fic: where’re my fics in which Zemo’s implication about the Winter Soldier “doing anything you want” gets played with? what or who does Bucky have to do to keep the undercover charade going? so many Bad Wrong Kinky power dynamics and explorations of consent and what this would do to Bucky’s head, here, and honestly I’d totally read them all, just saying.)
--Sam and Bucky together...I don’t know. This is one of the elements that I’m not actually a huge fan of, but I think it’s partly a personal genre / sense of humor thing that’s not clicking for me, personally, again. Like...
--I don’t find people shouting aggrievedly at each other to be funny? I’m not sure why it is.
--I mean, I get that they’re doing, like, eighties buddy cop movies, but...it got old really fast then, and it’s not something we needed to bring back. It’s not clever, and it’s...well, shouty and annoying.
--(I say this as someone who genuinely likes the first two Lethal Weapon movies...but the significant difference is, I think, we’re also shown in both those movies that Riggs and Murtaugh care about each other. They don’t want to be partners initially, and they don’t get along initially, and they do argue over tactics**...but they immediately feel responsible for each other and act to protect each other even as they argue, because it’s the right thing to do and we’re shown moments of them awkwardly trying to connect, because they both have that deep sense of...protectiveness...that makes them Good People - like, if they learn something that the other person needs to know, they tell each other. They protect each other’s families / love interests. So by the end of the second movie, with that fabulous character death fake-out, Murtaugh’s initial shock and grief is real and powerful and painful, and so is his genuine relief when the worst isn’t true - and it’s all earned.) (**however, they tend to argue tactics *before* jumping in - “is it 1, 2, 3, go on 3? or 3, then go?” And then once that’s established, they go ahead. That makes a difference as far as...well...competence and teamwork!)
--(Sam and Bucky, as far as I can tell, don’t do the above, and just...maybe shouldn’t be working together?)
--I also don’t find grown men acting like my youngest nephew, when he’s having a temper tantrum, to be funny. Staring contests? Random insults? Sulking in silence? Oh, grow up.
--(Also, yes, writers, we see you with the “couples therapy” and “get closer and make your legs touch” and “landing on top of each other as they hit the ground” moments. I, at least, personally, am very tired of...I don’t know that I’d call it queerbaiting exactly, but this idea that we’re supposed to find these moments funny...because why? Because, ooh, they’re two men getting close to each other, physically or emotionally? Why is this a thing we need to draw attention to? Do you think you’re doing some sort of fan service? Please either make Sam/Bucky happen or stop doing this.)
--both Sam and Bucky are highly competent and professional agents, or they should be. They should know how to work in the field - even with people they may not like - and adapt to shifting strategy, make best use of available assets, include people in the plan, etc. I can’t help but compare this to something like, say, Leverage, which also has a team who mocks each other and makes jokes but clearly absolutely respects each other’s capabilities, has a plan going in and tells everyone what the plan is, and adapts (and trusts each other to adapt) on the fly as necessary, and does it all without random insults about someone’s (PTSD-related) staring and “robot brain”.
--one of the very specific moments that bothers me a lot is the ending of the therapy scene (yay for showing heroes in therapy! but also I’m pretty sure she’s...not a great therapist?). Bucky finally opens up and says something real, about his own self-doubt and wondering whether Steve was wrong about him....and Sam just...brushes it off and goes, “we’re done here,” basically. Not only does that feel wildly out of character for former counselor Sam, it feels cruel. I really deeply dislike that moment the more I think about it. Makes me want to scream.
--Sam insults Bucky way more than the other way around. It’s starting to feel very one-sided (it’d be better if more clearly reciprocal, though it’s still not a dynamic that’s my favorite), and again, feels out of character - maybe this is Anthony Mackie’s sense of humor, but Sam isn’t Mackie, and Bucky isn’t Seb, and it reads as...a weird unbalanced power-trip thing to me. And also out of character for Sam, who can be sarcastic (”If you guys eat that sort of thing,” about breakfast, when Steve and Nat have randomly shown up at his door) but that’s not the same as just throwing unprovoked insults at a person who’s trying to recover from trauma, and a lot of those insults seem to center on things that were done to Bucky, that he had no choice in (the staring, the arm, etc), and that feels....it just feels mean, to me. Make fun of things he’s had a choice in / can do something about, if you have to - hair, clothes, liking “old people’s games” like gin rummy or pinochle, not knowing who Beyonce is, I don’t know, there are so many options that aren’t cruel! Do that instead. Let Bucky have a good comeback for once, too!
--the action scenes are action scenes. Also fine.
--Sam might be right about destroying the shield, and the show may even be (unintentionally?) setting that up as the best outcome, but that’s a problem for the future, Sam; get it back first. Also it’s a problem you caused by giving the shield up - did you really trust the government to leave it unused in a museum? You’re not that naive.
--overall, it’s...a perfectly fine show, so far, I think? Solid, and interesting, but not great. I think some of what doesn’t work for me is because it doesn’t work for me personally, as far as the shouty insult-heavy action “comedy” bits that I’m not enjoying, but I think they’re doing what they aimed for with it, so in that sense, I guess it’s working? There’s a lot of really cool stuff around the edges - John Walker, Isaiah Bradley, that Dora Milaje stinger, the bigger world of a history interwoven with racism and superpowers, the chillingly effective use of Bucky’s past - but I wish I liked the central Sam-Bucky relationship more. Individually they’re wonderful - they’ve both had such powerful scenes dealing with family, trauma, and consequences - but I feel like, in the effort to do the buddy comedy dynamic, the writing has just made me really sure that they actually genuinely don’t like each other? To such an extent that if they show any affection / caring / interest in each other in the last three episodes, it won’t be believable. (I mean Sam and Bucky, not Mackie and Seb. Mackie and Seb’re adorable.)
--I just want to think about Zemo dancing some more.

‘’CONFESSION’’ – RAEMON.
LOC: marlon’s hotel room. @fckmonax
MARLON
''Nah, you didn't have to pay for that long. It ain't like I'm broke anymore.'' sighs, letting out a yawn as he sits on the bed.
MONA
“But still, that money could be better used spoiling my nephew than paying for your hotel because you did something stupid enough for Hazel to kick you out.” takes a seat on the edge of the bed
MARLON
''Brother, I fucked up real big this time.'' shakes head ''Ima be lucky if she ever takes me back.''
MONA
narrows eyes at him, is really curious “What could you have possibly done that’s worse than what we already did? I think you’re just being dramatic.”
MARLON
''Nah...'' scoffs ''What we did ain't nothing compared to what I just did.''
MONA
“That.... concerning.” is actually starting to become worried about him “Marlon, tell me what you did.”
MARLON
gives her a look. ''You seriously have no idea?''
MONA
“Nope.” meets his eyes, waiting for him to spill
MARLON
sighs, hesitating to say it out loud. ''Don't make me say it, you know me enough... think harder.''
MONA
feels tension building up in the room, knows it’s something bad “Well I know what I think it is... I really hope it’s not that, Marlon.”
PRESTON
''If you're thinking something real bad that I can't fix, you got it.'' sighs ''I did that.''
MONA
is silent for probably a whole minute “Why’d you do it?”
MARLON
''He kept trying me...'' shrugs, shaking his head slightly. ''He had been trying me for like, several months now. He owed me $3k, said he wouldn't pay me shit but kept on running his mouth and saying shit he didn't have to say. Talked about my kids, even.''
MONA
clenches and unclenches her jaw as he speaks, is insanely disappointed in him “Who?”
MARLON
takes a deep breath, taking a loooong ass pause. ''Ainsley.'' looks down as he mentions his name.
MONA
is both angry and sad, confused more than anything “Ainsley? I haven’t even seen him in forever. I thought he moved away or something.” shakes head, stands and paces “Why did you lend him $3,000? None of this makes sense.”
MARLON
''He didn't move, he was just being a weirdo. Apparently slept all day and went out to fuck around at night or something and I didn't lend him $3,000.'' shakes head. ''I sold him $3,000 in drugs for this party he was at and then he bailed and played me. – Can you sit the fuck down, your pacing is stressing me out.''
MONA
continues pacing as he tells his story “Oh. That makes a lot more sense. Doesn’t justify if, but it makes sense.” stops moving when he calls her out, takes a seat in the chair this time “You should be stressed out. How do you know this won’t come back on you?”
MARLON
''Because I'm smart, I cleaned my mess... Literally.'' shrugs ''No one's gonna be looking for him and even if they were, they wouldn't be able to trace it back to me.''
MONA
nods and tries to think of all the bases he might not have covered “What about his apartment? You said he still lives there... Lived there. What happens when the landlord realizes that there’s no one paying rent anymore?”
MARLON
''This bitch owed rent, they were threatening to take him out.'' sighs ''He supposedly came from money but he really was a cheap bastard who paid for nothing and still expected us all to treat him as if he was the fucking pope or sum'.''
MONA
is quiet, sighs after a few seconds “None of that makes this okay, Marlon.” shakes her head, stands and starts pacing again “What... uh, what was it like? Like how did it, um, feel?”
MARLON
narrows eyes and gives her a look, almost smirking. ''Bitch I fucking knew you would ask me that shit.'' shakes head with a shrug ''I don't know, though. I was mad, felt like I was in some type of trance and when I snapped out of it, he was out.''
MONA
laughs and rolls her eyes “Shut up.” listens close as he describes it “Huh. That sounds kind of lame. I have no desire to partake.” sighs and sits back down
MARLON
''It felt kinda good, though.'' smirks, biting down at his bottom lip. ''Like, you know when Bundy said there's apparently nothing better than feeling a person's last breath leave their body? I didn't actually experience any of that but it felt good to let the anger out, like, it was therapeutic.'' covers his face with his hands and sighs, revealing his face again. ''I really am fucked up.''
MONA
listens, watches wide eyed as he explains the feeling, gets chills “Okay, thats what I wanted to hear.” switches seats to sit next to him again, pulls him into a hug, whispers “Shut up. If you’re fucked up, I’m fucked up. I got you.”
MARLON
laughs, feeling oddly lucky to have Mona in his life ''You really are fucked up.'' chuckles, hugging her tightly, thankful for her presence and support. ''Dude, but I gotta tell you.. Oh my god, there was so much blood.''
MONA
laughs and pulls away “Yeah, I’ve heard about that! That you never truly understand how much blood is in a body until you’re in the presence of a bleeding body.” looks whimsically into the distance
MARLON
eyes wide open ''Bro, there's like ten times more blood when you stab someone. It was ridiculous.''
MONA
is oddly jealous that she wasn’t there, shakes it off “But ok. how does this all relate to Hazel kicking you out? You didn’t tell her, did you?”
MARLON
''That's where I fucked up...'' sighs ''...I hid for two days. Chopping this dudes body, cleaning my mess, covering my tracks, going over everything a million times again and again and of course she got worried, texted my friend Josh who told her I was completely fine because he called me on my other phone she didn't even know I had and then I kinda freaked out and reached out to her and apologized and told her what I did.''
MONA
sits in silence even after he finishes speaking, shakes her head “There are a million lies you could’ve told her that would have been better than the truth.” sighs “What if she wakes up one day and decides you’re too dangerous to be around Seb or something?”
MARLON
scoffs ''She already decided that.''
MONA
rolls eyes “Idiot.”
MARLON
''Me or her?'' looks confused ''What do you think I'm doing out here? She don't want me around her or the kids.''
MONA
“You. Obviously.”
MARLON
''But it's not like I would do anything to my family.'' sighs out of frustration.
MONA
“I know that and she knows that.” sighs and shakes her head “But she also knows what you’re capable of now.”
MARLON
''I'm capable of taking someone down if they keep messing with me, yes.'' makes eye contact. ''I don't regret it.''
MONA
“Yeah, I get that.” shakes head and stands “I just don’t think you should’ve told her.”
MARLON
''Yeah, I regret telling her.'' sighs ''Like, I could've lived without telling her but at the same time I don't wanna keep shit from her anymore.''
MONA
“Marlon. It’s cute and all that love Hazel so much and respect her enough to not want to keep secrets...” pauses for emphasis, gathers her stuff “but THIS is a secret you were better off keeping.” sighs “I should go.”
MARLON
looks down, knowing she was right. – suddenly pulls his knife out and cuts the palm of his hand, quickly standing and taking her hand, asking no questions and doing a smaller cut on her palm. shaking her hand. ''Promise me you won't tell anyone.'' makes eye contact, still holding her hand in a spontaneous blood pact.
MONA
“Marlon, wh-“ eyes widen when she realizes what’s happening “OW!” feels tears quickly forming “Why? We’ve already done that once before and it’s not like I was planning on telling anyway you weirdo.” grabs a tissue to stop the bleeding, hands him one as well “Now I’m gonna have two scars.” *shakes head and chuckles *
MARLON
rolls eyes when she whines and sees the tears forming, takes her hand AGAIN. ''You didn't promise this time. Promise!'' raises eyebrows expectantly ''The sooner you promise, the faster you can start crying, and stop playing, warriors have scars. Scars are cool.''
MONA
“Oh my god! I promise, okay? Of course, I promise.” rolls eyes, and wipes away her tears “And that’s not the same knife, is it?”
MARLON
nods and smiles ''Thank you.'' grabs the tissue, cleans the knife before pressing the tissue against her palm. ''Of course not, that one don't exist anymore.''
MONA
“Good. I would’ve vomited.” frowns as the bleeding continues, checks time “I should really head home. If I’m gone too long, Fabian will probably use it against me.”
MARLON
''We can take him out too, you know?'' shrugs, actually joking this time ''I'm KIDDING, don't kill me now.''
MONA
laughs out loud “You are awful. So awful.” is still high key laughing
MARLON
''I'm pro now and this time you could be there to watch.'' laughs along with her ''Get the fuck outta here.'' laughs and pushes her. ''Wait, give me a hug.''
MONA
“I’m definitely going to hell just for this conversation.” almost makes it to the door, but doesn’t hesitate to turn around and hug him when he asked “Awww I almost forgot for a sec how much I love you.” hugs him tightly for a few seconds, honestly still pretty worried about him “I’ll swing by tomorrow too check in.” opens the door to leave
MARLON
hugs her back jus as tightly. ''You're rider, bug. I love you.'' pulls away and nods, smiling at her. ''I appreciate that, thank you.'' goes back to bed

Vettel & Hamilton
Abdellah El Ouastani • 14 hours ago
My take on the situation. The decision was far from being fair. Anyone with a fair racing spirit bone in their body would call yesterday's incident "a racing incident." That is the end and short of it. But let's break it down a little, shall we. This harsh, unfair and totally un-called for penalty goes back to the narrative, which I have been supportive of, since day uno. That Sebastian Vettel his not a popular figure within the highly political world of F1.
A lot of people do not entertain the idea of Vettel being actually an unscripted, genuine and pure racer sort of guy. In fact, what you see is what you get. He is a terrible person at playing the political game. Kimi decides to shut up about these things, which in my view, is the most political statement one can make, believe it or not. Sebastian is different; he cares more about it all and the history of the sport. Therefore, he reacts, for better or for worse. Anyone who appreciates the emotions the sport transmits to people, would appreciate how incredibly happy Seb was for securing pole on Saturday. He was so happy about it as if it was his first. Seb is involved in the sport, and the highs are so high, because he eats, sleeps and repeats F1. In between that, it is about his family, and leading a normal life. All he wants is to race, the old school way. He is such a committed character that he would be hard on his team, on himself, and in going after the results he works for. That makes him lose the bigger picture foresight in the heat of the moment, especially in the heat of the battle, but he always comes round.
Yesterday was a good example of that, and of Sebastian true colours, let's say. He said some of the most important words you'll ever hear for the entire season. On the not-so-cool-down lap, he came up with some real beauties. See this: ""Where the hell am I supposed to go? This is a wrong world I tell you. This is not fair.” Then what about this: "...The people shouldn’t boo at Lewis. If anything, they should boo at these funny decisions." And finally this: "I sympathise in a way with the stewards..."
Yesterday's events perfectly encapsulates Sebastian Vettel, the man and a proper character. He would go aggressive after what he wants, in a fair way. But all he needs is common sense to come round. Before analysing the quotes above, he made a mistake by not going to Parc Ferme and all that, then Binotto and Gino convinced him to go back and respect the protocol, he did it out of respect for his team, the winning Mercedes team, Charles, and the fans. How great and revealing are those quotes though! In the crying for help enquiry of "where am I supposed to go" is the guy asking for common sense. Good luck with that. That is a lonely and dark place at the moment. "That's a wrong world I tell you", is the whole world in a nutshell - not just F1 BTW. Although it is a bit extreme in the massive business and political franchise that is F1. Finally, note how he is seeing the bigger picture again, by not taking it personal with the stewards, in the last quote.
Coming out in defense of Lewis after all what has happened shows that temperament is actually one of Seb's greatest assets, contrary to what people would have us believe. His fault is that he sees through all the provocations and games. It is a gift and a curse, in equal measure. Sebastian isn't angry at Lewis or Mercedes. In fact he is always one to give them credit, one to joke around, and one to see the positives. He is mad though at the "funny decisions" i.e. the SYSTEM. Sebastian does not have a problem with the journalists, but with the quality of the press. It is not the people he is against, it is the system. He isn't blaming the people, he is blaming the problem. And that is something that people could change if united, applied common sense. For Goodness sake, a bit less bias, and a little more fairness. It would do the sport and the world, a world of good.
Clearly, and visibly, Seb at the moment he made a mistake, all he cared about was avoiding the walls, and when he managed to correct it just, Hamilton was there. He blocked Lewis, but not intentionally, therefore, in the world of common sense, he shouldn't have been slapped with a 5 second penalty. Sebastian couldn't disappear into thin air, or just park the car on the left, to let Lewis past. And BTW, for anyone comparing the situation to Lewis' misfortune in 2008, it is not even a comparable situation. I know the journalists brought it up in the post race, but the two cases are not only a little over a decade a part, but a world apart. Some difference. Back to Seb's grass trip, it was simply instinct - a natural reflex. You are in trouble, you don't care about the others, you care about yourself first. A no-brainer. In this case, people think Vettel should be punished because they think somewhow there is an element of design about it, when clealry and visibly there wasn't. As if he rejoined the track purposefully for the sole reason of hampering Hamilton.
A lot of the bad publiciy Vettel gets in this case, has worked. That is the pressure Vettel is under. That is what in the radio, he says "I don't care what people think." And speaking of the mistake he made, is not pressure per se. It is pressure in a sense, but nothing like the big deal poeple try to make it out to be. Seb simply made a mistake, but only because he wanted to win and not interested in a second place finish. Hamilton, in the Mercedes was the driver in the faster car on the day. I saw it on Friday. And since we are at it, if Hamilton didn't compromise his build up to the qualifying, Saturday would have been a bit of different story. Perhaps, perhaps not. But yes, Ferrari has always liked softer, easier to warm up tyres, that's why they could keep up to an extent with Mercedes in the first stint, and couldn't in the second part spent on the harder compounds.

Your words "people think Vettel should be punished because they think somehow there is an element of design about it, when clearly and visibly there wasn't."
Patently the Stewards, with the benefit of telemetry and video footage unavailable to us, completely disagree.
"The stewards examined slow motion footage of Vettel's actions from the moment that he had regained control and started steering his car – and it was felt that it showed that the German could have chosen a different path than the one he took. The footage clearly captures Vettel correcting an oversteer moment as he rejoins the track – which is shown by a sharp steering wheel movement to the right by the German. Shortly after that, however, Vettel has dispatched the oversteer and begins steering to the left to follow the direction of the circuit - suggesting he is now under control. But a split moment later, rather than keeping to the left, Vettel is shown to release the steering wheel which allows his car to drift to the right – cutting off the route that Hamilton would have taken had he had clear space. The movement to straighten the wheel, which put Vettel into the path of Hamilton, is believed to be key to the unanimous decision by the stewards to punish Vettel. A further reason the stewards established was through the use of an extra CCTV camera view of the incident, which was not broadcast on the international feed, showing Vettel's head looking in the mirrors at where Hamilton was during these moments when he was releasing the wheel to the right. Onboard footage of the Vettel incident also shows his head looking towards the mirrors in the moment when he is drifting out, suggesting he knew where Hamilton was. Had Vettel kept his car tight to the left once he had regained control, then there was likely enough room to have allowed Hamilton through on the right, in which case the matter would almost certainly not have been investigated. The fact that telemetry data showed Hamilton had to brake to avoid the collision with Vettel showed how the Mercedes driver was caught out by his rival's actions."
Abdellah El Ouastani
John Willcocks • 12 hours ago
Wasn't Seb penalised enough for running off track and losing momentum? See the onboards, Vettel didn't look in his mirrors until he corrected the slide, on three different occasions; he lost the car, on more than one occasion. Before that, Vettel was a passenger, and the first instinct is to correct the car. He couldn't care less about who was behind at that point. He cares about keeping the car out of the wall. Once he regained control, you can see him check his rear view mirrors. Lewis was there. That all happened in a matter of seconds. Racing incident. I don't care about the data, when I can see for myself. It's all clear, if there was something dirty about it, I would have said it, or not said anything at all. If you are driving on the highway at high speed, with some cars behind, then you lose control at some point at those speeds, what would be your reaction? To care about not hurting the others, or to not crash yourself. You cannot make a decision on the present if you are in the past. You cannot see what is in front of you, if you look behind. It is common sense.
