How would you say the x-men are "turbo-fucked". Is it just the common criticsms that ppl say about them or do you have real specific point ppl haven't brought up yet? (Not trying to be aggressive here, just curious)
My stance is essentially an amalgamation of every free-floating complaint about the X-Men you've ever heard- that it's a bad metaphor for oppression because real minority groups can't kill buildings full of people on a whim, that the comics are frequently tone deaf in the comparisons drawn between real and fantasy oppressions (Kitty with the hard R, oppression-splaining to a Pakistani-American girl), the ugly ways in which the metaphor can intersect with real-life issues of nationalism and ethnonationalism (Is Magneto a Zionist? Locked after 12,000 pages, etc). Moreover there were always going to be fundamental cracks in the foundation because mutants-as-civil rights metaphor was a retrofit that they pivoted to from what was originally transparently a time-saving measure for the mass-production of silver-age cops-and-robbers participants. Even then it's still theoretically possible to make the metaphor work, but I think that the demands of serial publication are particularly injurious to the metaphor because it prevents the creation of a specific, unified, finite narrative that can dig into this in a way that sticks. They'll be stuck treading water on the issue forever, held back from really internalizing the thorny-but-interesting implications or meaningfully adjusting the status quo as long as the X-Men need to remain available in the toybox for future writers. The closest they can get is the umpteenth "mutants claw their way back from the brink of extinction" storyline. Are we on the second or third mutant ethnostate collapse?
At the same time you have to hold space for the fact that the X-Men are only uniquely vulnerable to these criticisms because X-Men authors had the audacity to try to center these themes, to try and use the space as it existed to do something new and thoughtful. 50 years of hindsight have made us aware of the limitations of what can be done with those themes within the monthly-serial context, but that wasn't clear at the time, and let's be real, we wouldn't be talking about this franchise at all if Claremont hadn't shot his shot and gotten the ball rolling. Perfect is the enemy of good, comic books are a conversation, yadda yadda yadda.
Anyway I can't recommend The Power Fantasy highly enough- it's an indie thing by Keiron Gillen that's heavily in conversation with the X-Men specifically (informed by his recent run on the book), making full-use of an alternate-history to explore the idea of X-Men flavored people with superpowers as a geopolitics-altering thing-unto-themselves, the limitations of attempting to construct superhumans as a unified demographic, and the horrifying but specific ethical nightmare scenarios that emerge from Great Man Theory of history having actually become true.

first of all: thank you for making me notice the negative parts of the fandom, i really appreciate it
but anyway, i've been Really Concerned about the amount of nsfw jokes in the comic and whole fandom in general and minors just acceping it. some of my friends in discord do agree that the sex implications in the new updates are pretty gross, especially the "true" final page of v4. and the sly cum thing? god. no words honestly. all of that is tagged of course but, still.
also mildly irrelevant but the sheer fact that a lot of people need to come to sparklecare criticsm blogs and ask in an anonymous manner so the fans don't go on a witch-hunt really shows how the fandom can't handle criticism huh.
to spread some positivity though i find it cool that they're representing more body types, especially fat/chubby people in the new cometcare redesigns and barry's new design
ive posted how many fuckin asks now? & only like two of them werent anon

No that Barbie gendered criticsm post was in specific reference to a post where someone accused people—critical of the Barbie movie for being a commercial/just Not being indie arthaus groundbreaking cinema—of being misogynistic because “no one does this for transformers or marvel” (which seems misogynistic as well. Comic books aren’t “for boys” dolls aren’t “for girls” but the way these products are being marketed to us as freethinking adults is perhaps something we should question)
Oh, I got that, my tags were more in reference to the "consumerism seems girl-coded and military propaganda boy-coded" bit. That joke format implies that people are projecting gendered stereotypes onto something, except the idea of their being a gender link to these properties is by design - Barbie is being marketed to women and girls, and the cultural idea of what women and girls do/should like and Marvel is marketed to the cultural idea of what men and boys do/should like.
I'm not disagreeing with OP of that post, I'm disagreeing with the idea that there is no gendered level, especially with what is being marketed - consumerism is much more aggressively marketed to women ("women be shopping", the pink tax, women as responsible for household shopping etc.) and the military is marketed more to men. I think this level of analysis is being ignored in favour of calling anyone excited for the Barbie movie stupid for not knowing it's an ad. Which that's a case-by-base basis, definitely most people are going in uncritical but that's true of most media so I wouldn't call anyone out here for being especially stupid.
But yeah, people have always pointed out that toy brand shows are just ads, and we have been complaining about the military-industrial complex in film, but also with everything when its a "girl" (and like again this is marketing, I never liked barbie or girl toys as a child so like my girlhood isn't being represented here, and maybe the idea that brands get to decide what girlhood and boyhood is is a more interesting discussion) property the analysis gets weird - like you have good faith criticism and then people being much more aggressive then the conversation might need.
Like the movie hasn't come out yet and we have already gone from the over-praising the thing to backlash/hatred of the thing - again both phases have genuine and reasonable arguments to them - be excited for a movie with practical sets in a CGI cinema landscape, to see some of our biggest stars together, to see a movie that looks fun- be critical of a film that is a 2-hour long commercial for a doll brand, be critical of a film that supports rampant consumerism and the beauty industry - but the intensity is...a lot already, again for a movie we haven't actually seen yet
TLDR: I don't think it is sexist to critique this movie, or the existence of criticism or a backlash is wholly sexist, however, like with most things parsing out where the genuine feelings stop and sexism ramps them up is an impossible thing to parse. I can believe this while also feeling like anyone trying to say there is no gender element is wrong - like it's Barbie, a toy that even girls who don't play with Barbie are told is representative of their childhoods - like gender analysis is called for but just maybe not the one that is happening.

cts & my learning and professional journey ˚ ༘ ೀ⋆。 ˚
I would like to work with Broadcast Media, and develop an ad campaign to promote a film trilogy directed by them. Creating posters, advertisements, short comics to promote the film after the first part's release so that people will check out the remaining parts. As someone who's always preferred to develop on ideas and help expand it with my own creativity, I think I would enjoy having the freedom to promote the trilogy in a way that I deem as attractive.
A final project idea I would like to do is a digital artbook/archive that is centered around the beauty of human life. It would incorporate the various mediums we learn in both studio and craft, and would range from abstract to forward art pieces. I would like to have a few fully drawn digital art pieces, and maybe a few pages representing a zine. I would explore typology, photography, to perhaps show how repeition in our daily life is beautiful too. The idea I want to explore is how life is beautiful from the small parts like sunsets and neighbourhood cats, and the bigger parts like love and platonic relationships.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would like to work with Make-A-Wish, specifically the children under the program, as I feel out of everyone, they are the ones that miss out on the beauty of life most, and that's the final idea I have in mind for now. I want to help them see that life is worth fighting for through design, and to keep their spirits up despite the struggles they might be facing. I want to use my art to bring them hope.
CTS would help me achieve my goal in becoming an illustrator as it equips me with the neccessary growth mindset to face criticsm from superiors, to put out the best illustration needed for projects. It would help me collaborate better with others to coordinate a specific artstyle, or with storyboard artists to put out the right concept and storyline. (330 words) REFERENCES:

What irritates me is that they will back up these criticsm with either "it's a MuLTiiVeRse" (not realizing the very idea is to explore interesting ideas and not just have shitty changes for the sake of it) or "ComICs ArE SuPpoSeD To Be DuMB" (as if you can't have a good serious story with some self aware humor, seriously people took the wrong lesson from Joss Whedon's style of writing)
Starting to get reaaaal tired of people writing off big studios disregarding and at times even actively insulting the source material they're given with "oh, well it's an adaptation, so of course some things are going to be different :)"
Yeah it's an adaptation and it's bad at it. It is an unfaithful adaptation. That's the whole problem. We're not talking about scenes being added or altered to properly flesh out a character in a visual medium without narration or internal monologues, or bits of the plot being expanded or condensed here and there to fit runtime. We're talking about central characters and themes getting completely painted over in the name of new writers' "vision" and corporate interests.

Astro Observations 🦋
part eight
🌊 people with the same sign into both the ascendant and the 12th house probably don't relate to their rising sign. that's because the traits of that sign are hidden and private in the 12th house, it's a side of us that we're not aware to have.
🏋🏻‍♂️ in a solar return chart, virgo rising may indicate weight loss. it's a year that sees major health improvements unless mercury, the chart ruler, is badly placed or aspected. overall, the virgo rising individual will start taking more care of themselves, hence they may go on a diet, organize a workout routine, anything that makes them feel better.
🌚 people with scorpio degrees (8, 20°) can be much darker than usual in that placement. it doesn't matter whether the sign at a scorpio degree is the bubbliest, most outgoing sign of the zodiac, it will make you more secretive about it. for example, I have a 20° sagittarius ascendant; sagittarius rising makes one extremely warm and outgoing, while I'm literally the opposite. I have a rbf, and people always tell me that I look sad, angry or mean lol.
✨ neptune / pisces in the 3rd house have very dreamy voices. they may be particular, and sometimes not exactly clear as they tend to be quite nasal, but they're very pleasant to hear. also, I've noticed that people with this placement tend to sound extremely different in real life vs in videos.
🥀 venus and neptune in the 8th house can make one interested in dark topics in books, movies, tv series, etc. more specifically, the venus person may feel more interested in sad, dark literature and books, and they may also be incredibly fond of thrillers. they may also be into more mature music, like the weekend for example. neptune, on the other hand, prefers the graphic type of horror, hence they may love dark movies, tv series, anime, comics / mangas and also art.
🌸 there's this stereotype that libra is the most diplomatic sign of the zodiac. well, that is partially true. partially. technically speaking, libras are supposed to be very charming and kind with their words, they also have a soft voice in addition to that that makes them look very well-spoken. but personally, all the libra suns I've met, minus one, aren't like that at all. that's because libra suns may have their mercury in virgo or scorpio, which are two of the most blunt and rude signs to have in mercury. virgo is logical, and finds it hard to express their thoughts without coming off as a know-it-all. scorpio, on the other hand, is very sarcastic and brutally honest. they're very trasparent, but they can't handle the weight of their own words, ending up saying mean things. they may also manipulate you into agreeing with them, they're very subtle.
🌊 chiron in the 10th house may make one prone to get a lot of criticsm online, perhaps through social media. in fact, most celebrities with this placement don't have a social media account, probably because they want to avoid reading hurtful comments. if they do have an account, they don't really use it often, but just to promote their new works or other important matters. also, they may feel insecure and private to share content and communicate through social media, they're more traditional. some examples are angelina jolie, sandra bullock, harry styles, emma watson...
☄️ another stereotype about libra placements, is that they are indecisive. at first, it may seem like that. but actually, they just like thinking deep about all of their decisions, they don't want regrets later and want to make the right choice. they could be the type to ask for advice to someone else, and then they end up doing whatever they want anyways, because they got to their own conclusion that seems the best to them.
🍷 scorpio placements ladies usually have problems with their periods. they may be very painful and they could suffer from cramps, or perhaps their cycle is irregular. e.g they may often skip a month or more. they could get angry very easily during their periods, and they may as well suffer from pms symptoms. also, to give birth they may have to undergo a c-section.
🌞 leo risings may often be sexualized, they constantly have people making sexual fantasies about them. that's because they have pisces, the sign of dreams and imagination, in the 8th house, the house of sex appeal, that combined with leo energy makes an individual very attractive.

POOPY SLOOPY DOO DAA PANCAKES!
There. Now that I got your attention, I have a question:
How can I approve the content that I make? Stories and reviews or comics and cartoons, what can I do that will make be the best writer/artist I can be? I wanna know as I’m taking the break for the week to chill the hell out about work.
So leave a message, anonymous or otherwise, about any positive criticsm you have. I’ll respect any input you can offer.

[ID: Batman fanart of Bruce Wayne with Lucille Bluth quotes.
Bruce waves a hand airily with his eyes closed and says, "If that's a veiled criticsm about me, I won't hear it and I won't respond to it."
Bruce holding a cupcake and saying, "Good for her."
Bruce raising an eyebrow and saying, "I mean, its one banana. What could it cost? Ten dollars?"
Bruce smiling and handing Tim a bill, saying, "Here's some money. Go see a Star War."
Dick sirs in the foreground as Bruce looks to the side with a frown and says, "I don't understand the question, and I won't respond to it."
The last comic is captioned "here's a bonus brucie with reporter clark kent". Bruce winks oddly at Clark, captioned "*wink* ???" They both turn away from each other, badly stifling laughter. End ID]

ASM v5 #14/815 Thoughts
Tumblr media
SPOILERS
Unfortunately this is another issue I’m not that thrilled with, just like last time and just like my problems with issue #2. However in case you didn’t recall I actually somewhat re-evaluated my thoughts on issue #2.
My criticisms of issue #2 still stand but I’m a little more accepting in this issue when it comes to perhaps the most controversial aspect of the story, the Lizard family.
When you really look at Spencer’s run over all thus far there is very much a through line about second chances; rather appropriate for the guy who wrote Secret Empire.
Peter and MJ have a second chance. Peter’s education is being given a second chance. Peter is giving Felicia and Jameson and Boomerang a second chance.
Peter knows Connors is not a bad person, knows his acts of evil occurred under influence of the Lizard over whom he has had little control and Peter has shown sympathy towards him and similar people (e.g. Vermin) who’ve done truly horrific things because of those animalistic personalities their possess.
So Peter giving Curt a second chance when he seems to be in control, seems to have some version of his old life back and is trying to make amends (and has actively sought to help him personally) I think is believable.
And if Peter feels that way I think MJ has enough faith in him to give it a second try too.
Problems crop up when it comes to the Martha and Billy clones though.
Remember these people were Peter and MJ’s friends! They went out together they went to Billy’s birthday. They mourned their deaths.
Seeing them alive and mutated should be a BIG deal and it’s treated with unrealistic blasé casualness.
It’d be one thing if the Connors and Parkers were not close and they merely intellectually knew these guys were clones. From that POV you could argue Peter and Mj are just trying to be polite and recognize that if Curt is healthier and happier with these clones whom he treats as the real deal then what harm is there in just leaving the topic alone and accepting them.
But...that’s not the case. MJ and Martha were friends, Peter knew Billy and found his mutilated dead body. Seeing them both alive and mutated and knowing their not the real versions of the characters should emotionally affect them both, it should make them feel uncomfortable on some level.
If nothing else that’s a fascinating moment to explore. But instead we smash cut to them all hanging out in the sewers having dinner together as though it was nothing.
Now sure this is more of Spencer’s comedy sensibilities coming in because that visual and that scenario is innately absurd.
But it’s an instance where the humour and absurdity really takes you out of the story. Both for the reasons I spoke about above and also because frankly...this moment just doesn’t belong in a Spider-Man story.
Spencer has been so much better than Slott at keeping Spider-Man grounded and although wacky things have happened they’re been much more forgivable or served a deeper point. Normally I’d lambast splitting Peter and Spider-Man into 2 separate people as too wacky for Spider-Man, but because it served the purposes of character reconstruction it wound up being great.
Here though its just absurd and aggressively unrealistic for a Spider-Man story for no deeper purpose. Not just the visual of a family of Lizard people chowing down with the Parkers but also the fact that they’re literally in a sewer doing it and everyone is so casual about it.
It’s just...stupid and ruins your immersion in the story. Its too absurd a thing for readers to just take on face value in a Spider-Man story, like a Ninja Turtles story, maybe an F4 story maybe, but this no.
Especially with MJ of all people casually climbing into a sewer for dinner. I’m not saying MJ is a delicate flower nor someone who can’t go low rent when she needs to but like there is accepting the low rent option and then there is this lady who is glamorous to a certain extent and likes being so willingly climbing into a friggin sewer to eat with a reforming cannibal lizard person and lizard clones of 2 dead people. Sorry, suspension of disbelief doesn’t stretch that far.
Another reductive aspect of the story is the continual looming shadow of Parker Industries. As mentioned in older posts we need to either properly address and fix this so nobody mentions it again or else just hardcore ignore it, not bring it up as a legitimate story element but also kind of ignore it too.
You also have the bullshit ‘mid-twenties’ line which is absolutely untrue and you should just No. Prize a reason for MJ to say that.
But other than that I’ve got nothing bad to really say about this issue. Nothing at all. Really. Nothing. It’s all absolu-...well you know there is one teeny tiny thing.
 THE ART IS UTTERLY TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, I re-read some 1990s Generation X comics recently along with their Age of Apocalypse counterparts, Generation Next. And the art in the latter was weaker than the former for sure.
But holy crap both of them looked sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than Shed which itself looked soooooo much better than this hot garbage.
Bachalo’s art is at least readable in this story in ways it often was not in Shed but nevertheless it looks so scruffy and sketchy and just plain ugly.
I never thought I’d MISS Humberto Ramos but my God. There are points where people faces in the distance look like they’ve got just dots for eyes and dashes. Everyone is so off model and unattractive and the art over all is grey, dark, washed out. A gross contrast to the art by Ramos and Ottley.
Its not even like the change is in service of a major tonal shift or anything. The tone of the story thus far isn’t grimer or darker than what we had before. We didn’t go into the sewers because we’re dealing with some grim and gross story, we went there for absurdity.
I mean there is a REASON Ottley did the cover for this issue and why the Spider-Office pulled out some stock art by Paolo Rivera for next issue’s cover. Its because they were acutely aware that anyone looking at Bachalo on the stands would never pick up these books on impulse.
It doesn’t help when we reuse some stock art by Ottley for one of the recap panels. That one panel is better than the rest of the art in the book.
Although it raises another potential criticsm. Even during Spencer’s debut arc we saw art recycled a little (Black Cat from issue #1 was reused later as Peter’s phone picture for her). And the prior 2 issues reused art as well as I recall. Now those aren’t that big of a deal but here it again takes you out of the book because Ottley is at least reusing his own art who’s style therefore matches up. Here Bachalo doesn’t match us at all and it comes off as lazy.
Now there were GOOD things in the issue too.
 Peter and Mj together, talking.
Resolving the Rhino’s seeming return to villainy from older issues.
Aunt May being feisty and perhaps for the first time calling out a male suitor.
The clever safety device Peter gave her, even if it is perhaps too sci-fi.
Furthering along the Taskmaster/Black Ant/Kraven and ESU subplots in a very organic way.
Spencer at least addressing why Aunt May isn’t rolling in the money after her rich husband died.
 Aunt May’s kindness
 Spider-Man and Rhino’s newfound friendship/working relationship.
I don’t wanna say this is a bad issue but also...it has got genuinely bad things IN it....

When you re-read your started fanfiction with nearly 40k words and it is still at the beginning lol.
Just re-read a fanfiction that I started writing months ago. Time to re-obsess with it!
“Unlucky is the stranger” is a Pokémon Fanfiction with OC-Insert, and Journey elements in it. Plays in a original region(since I am not confident enough to use cannon characters yet) and River the nonbinary MC has a Bidoof as a Starter.
Can be as dark as it can be humouros.
This is a fanfiction where I largely only do it with little planning, I mean I do outline roughly and have a bit of characterisation, but this is largely pansy writing. I do hope to finish this fanfiction and rewrite it with the appropiate criticsm. Soooo stay tuned! I will not post any chapters until I finish it in its entirety and than do weekly uploads, taking time to edit the chapters and perhabs translate it too.
I do hope to write some novels someday, might as well get comfy with fanfictions and comic stories before doing so.

Hi! POC proshipper here! I def agree, I think that some proshippers forget that freedom for problematic fiction to exist doesn't mean freedom from criticism of problematic fiction. There are definitely some people (antis) who make absolutely wild claims (such as Rebecca Sugar being a nazi sympathiser despite her being half-Jewish, or that Grunkle Stan is a bad Jewish Stereotype just because he has a big nose and likes money a lot (which... tbh if you came to that conclusion... w o w-)). As a POC (but not someone who is Jewish, so I can't speak there, these were just the examples I could think of from the top of my head) it's definitely annoying, and perpetuates the 'annoying sjw reading too much into things' impression people often get when POC try to speak out about the legitimate criticisms of (often well-meaning but misguided) media they have.
It's as you said, there's no nuance. Sometimes certain uncomfortable similarities or comparisons can be made that are often unintentional by the creator, and there'd be nothing wrong with politely pointing it out or commenting on it, but so many immediately jump to "THIS THING AND THE CREATOR ARE RACIST/ANTI-SEMETIC" without considering that maybe it's unintentional or the creator's subconscious associations are coming through.
There are times it's definitely due to lazy writing or intentionally being ignorant though. Take Eastenders- a popular soap opera here in England. My mother is muslim (I'm not but I was raised it), and a criticism we have is that the Muslim characters are often wildly (almost comically if you ask me) inaccurate representation. They often dress in revealing clothing, drink alcohol, and have pre-marital sex. ALL of them. And there was a clip my friend sent of a muslim getting offended when another one wanted to build a mosque (a holy place of worship) next to an LGBT nightclub- this character was painted as homophobic and ignorant, which I found offensive considering the very valid opposition they had. When non-white cultures and religions are put down for the sake of being "progressive", its a bit counterintuitive, no?
Another criticsm I have, for example, is how POC women (particularly black and brown) are presented in media and fandom. I'm sick and tired of the aggressive/sassy/dumb characterisation of these characters (there's nothing wrong with it inherently but I notice fandom especially dumbs down or exaggerates such aspects of these characters, especially when shipped with a white female (coughcoughLumity) which has some... problematic implications for me, personally). Again, I doubt its intentional, but as much as fandom is about 'having fun with the characters' (which i completely stand by!) I wish people would maybe consider their own (probably subconscious) bias or /why/ they depict POC characters the way they do. Is this character really just a 'feral animal child' or are they just black/brown and relatively energetic? (Again, not to be the Fun Police but I just find this kind of thing interesting...)
What iritates me about proshippers is how painfully white the community is. There's almost no adressing of racism or antisemitism in media, and when somebody does adress a problem they are often labelled an anti, even when it has nothing to do with shipping. Meanwhile, antis have the wildest takes that do not help at all.
I think that is also a internet thing in general. At the end of the day fandom is merely an expression of the rest of a racist/antisemitic world and it sucks, because it would be nice we could all have this one space where we create freely AND don't have to face reminders of oppression. Like, even on leftist spaces, if POC/jewish people aren't speaking themselves and also happen to have a big enough platforms, nobody is doing the speaking and, if they do, they are just repeating the same things they saw working as right without actually understanding why. Thus making it performative and not actually generating any positive change for anyone. Nobody seems to realize that being an ally to any marginalized group requires some actual thought and work in order to be effective, not just liking or disliking the "right" kind of media, or even do the bare minimun of listening when people are talking. It's all "this character vaguely fits this trope therefore they Are Garbage And Here is Why", if anything, and nuance just goes to die the moment enters into social media. And THEN we have the kind of pro shippers who are just complete douches, don't want to change their ways, don't want to listen to anyone and just talk out of their asses, think freedom of expression should mean free of consequences and end up using the label as some kind of shield to say and do actually harmful bullshit without a shred of self awareness. Like, thanks, real useful that one. It is frustrating and I really don't know how much else we could do about it beyond trying to uplift POC/Jewish pro shippers's voices when possible.
