Hiiii Musette!!! been dying since I saw this tiktok from the Liverpool Comicon, what's your intake on it?
https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMhsyb8Fo/
Hi love!! Please, call me Minnie 😊
Ah yes, I answered a couple of asks about this earlier this week, here and here. In addition to what I've said there, particularly about how he's not the type to badmouth people he's worked with (or in this case, is still sort of working with), I personally think it's important to realise that Sebastian is coming at this from a different perspective than we are. Realising that made a big difference to me as to how I felt about him saying things about Stucky that I didn't like all that much.
Long reply under the cut!
Basically, we are shippers (or at least I am, and I'm just going to assume you are too for arguments' sake). We approach these movies and characters from a shipper's perspective, and that's not to say we're just making things up or we're seeing things that aren't there - the potential for Stucky is VERY much present in the movies, there's no denying that (and neither the makers nor the actors deny that either). But whether we like it or not, both interpretations (as in, romantic Stucky and platonic Stucky) are possible. Yes, we believe our interpretation is the one true interpretation (I personally do, in any case), but the biggest part of the people who have seen the movies came away from them thinking that Steve and Bucky were just really close friends, almost like brothers, and walked out of the theatre after seeing Endgame thinking 'Aww it's so nice that they just wanted the best for each other!' Because that's what the movies wanted people to think. I think it's bullshit, personally, but most people will have bought it at face value, and when I take a step back to get some perspective on it all, I get that.
So it makes total sense to me that Sebastian, as someone who comes at this mostly from a professional POV and whose opinion is solely informed by the movies, would be more inclined to that sort of a reading, too. While my Stucky spark was lit by the movies, it was fanned into a roaring fire by Tumblr and, even more importantly, fanfiction. Sebastian is aware of the concept of Stucky, and I'm sure he's given it some thought over the years, but he hasn't been bombarded with it on Tumblr for years on end or steeped himself in all the incredible fanfiction, like we have. He's said before that he doesn't personally view Stucky as romantic (but he is fine with that interpretation as well and can see where people are coming from), but that he does think Steve and Bucky's platonic, brotherly bond is very strong and significant (so for that reason alone, I don't think he was too happy with Endgame's ending, as he's also hinted at before).
I personally decided after Endgame that Bucky's canon story ended when he was reunited with Steve in Wakanda, and the rest of that movie simply didn't happen, and the same goes for TFATWS and now Thunderbolts. None of that is part of the narrative I envision for Bucky, so that way, it's pretty easy to dismiss Endgame's ending. Obviously, Sebastian has had no choice but to accept it as canon, as it would influence his subsequent portrayal of Bucky as a character. He was going to keep portraying Bucky in other things, so didn't have the option of dismissing it or being outright hostile towards it, because that would've made things impossible for him as he continued to play Bucky. So he's probably made his peace with Endgame's ending, to some extent, I think that's very understandable.
Do I think he'd have preferred a different ending to Endgame? Absolutely. And I personally think that's quite clear from the way he answers these types of questions. If you ask me, he's basically trying to make the best of a bad situation. Do I think he's as livid as we are and secretly hoped Steve and Bucky would get married at the end of Endgame? Not at all. That's our perspective, not his, and that's fine. Of course I'm a little disappointed when he says things that I don't personally agree with, I'd love for him to openly ship Stucky as hard as we do and shit on Marvel while he's at it. But that's not a realistic thing to expect from him, given the fact that he's coming at this from a completely different place than we are, and I personally don't blame him for having the opinions he has, even if I don't agree.
I don't think we need to agree with him. I don't think it matters all that much what he thinks, to be perfectly honest. It used to matter to me a lot more, in the past, but while it's still validating when he does say something that fits with what I believe, I've really learned to see his view and my own view as two separate things. For me, as a Stucky shipper, it ultimately doesn't matter what the actors think or say about it, particularly because the source material for me is only a sort of guideline, something I pick and choose elements from that I enjoy and that align with my view of these characters. While I enjoyed (parts of) the movies and Chris and Sebastian's performances, the canon is in no way the be all and end all of my shipping these characters. I enjoy all the movie meta I see here on Tumblr, and I obsess about the gif sets of Stucky scenes as much as the next person, but I'm also aware that there are also plenty of other bits and pieces in these movies that I'm just flat out ignoring because they don't fit my preferred narrative, and that, if you don't ignore those parts, and you accept the "official" narrative that the movies are selling you, that other interpretations are also possible (wrong ones, but still).
So what I'm trying to say here, in a really long-winded, roundabout sort of way (sorry, I'm sick and my head isn't working properly today), is that I don't believe Sebastian is completely fine with Endgame's ending, but I also don't think he hates it as much as we'd like him to hate it, and ultimately, that doesn't (or shouldn't) make a difference. Regardless of what Sebastian thinks or says, I still hate that ending and I still believe Steve and Bucky are romantic soulmates. Sebastian may not be a Stucky shipper himself (or hate EG as much as I do), but he has made it very clear that he's absolutely fine with that interpretation as well and he's hardly EG's biggest apologist ever, and that's enough for me!

Convention season is fast approaching and we've been hard at work on our new items for 2024. Here's a look at our new foil prints! We've got a classy greyscale print of Kiki's Delivery Service finished with red foil to add to our Ghibli line up, a print of Baiken also finished with red foil to add to our Guilty Gear line up, and a much requested print of Matrix also with red foil to add to our Reboot line up.
Also! We're trying something new this year and finally producing two original foil arts. These will be in a smaller format and we'll expanding the series if these sell well.
We'll be at Toronto Comicon in a couple of weeks (March 15-17 2024, table A1102) and Fanexpo in Toronto later in the year (August 22-25, Table TBA) - stay tuned for more details and any other convention announcements!
Prints will go in the online store between conventions; I'll announce that here as well.

Srry for the offtop and sm yapping but I'm so excited (≧▽≦)
A bit of face reveal as well ig x) (only a bit)
Was at comicon yesterday w my irl friends, AND IT WAS SO FREAKING AMAZING LOL
Before actually goin to comicon I went to my friend's house (this one friend with which I tried to make a cosplay. Sadly enough, I didn't have enough time to finish it bcuz of college so we'll continue working on it on holidays xDDDD). There we suddenly decided to do some make-up AND DBJSNSNSHSKNSM I ASKED HER TO MAKE MY MAKE-UP LIKE BURNING SPICE'S TATTOOS---- (don't wanna put on Affo's make-up till my cosplay is finished, aaannddd I also feel kinda dysphoric last few weeks so yeah the less femininity in my looks the better). Listen, I kinda hate this guy, but his face tattoos are just 💥💥💥🙏🙏🙏. Also fun fact, when I tried to make pics of my make-up w/o showing my face she gave me her fan and said "this way there will also be a part of Affogato on your pics" SHE KNOWS ME WAY TOO WELL LOL. And yeah, my friend did both of us some make-up (SHE'S AMAZING RIGHT???? Only doing some sort of face reveal cuz wanna show u guys how talented my friend is LIKE FR!! 🙏🙏🙏) - BS's one 4 me and Japanese styled 4 her, and then we headed right to the festival
I was wondering if I meet at least one crk cosplayer AND GUESS WHAT DKAGSKNSKASJ. A FEW MINUTES AFTER WE ARRIVED I NOTICED GOLDEN CHEESE COSPLAYER!!! After a lil while I approached them and asked: "Excuse me, are you cosplaying Golden Cheese?" AND WJAHJSKAB THEY SAID: "Yeah! And you are *realization hits them* BURNING SPICE?! Please don't rip my wings off!" LMAO---- (We were joking bout this till the end of comicon lol). They also asked me to take a pic w them :3 (won't post it here at least because the cosplayer is a minor). We spent quite a lot of time together, even made matching pins - mine with BS's Soul Jam and theirs with GC's Soul Jam (it was their idea xD). Honestly I HATE markers cuz I don't have any idea how to draw with em w/o em spreading over the lineart and ruining the picture. Anyway, it was pretty fun to make my own pin like this :D (wanted to make Affo pin as well cuz there was literally no merch w my babygirl BUT I GOT SICK AND TIRED OF MARKERS TOO FAST EJKABAJGKGJKA)
Fun fact, while we were making pins I showed the cosplayer and their friend one of my art and said something like "drew it at college on a boring lecture" AND THEY BOTH WENT SILENT FOR A WHILE.... And then GC cosplayer asked: "College? How old are you?.." I said that I turn 19 the next week AND TJKEHEKE THEY SAID THAT THEY THOUGHT I'M 14 LMAO---- (and I thought that they're 14, but they said they both are 11--. Like. What--). That was a bit awkward ngl :D
I also bought some merch (unfortunately there was no merch w Affogato but tons with Pure Vanilla, so yeah, I'm still happy ah). Fun fact, I spent on it almost $40---. I THOUGHT I SPENT LIKE 2 TIMES LESSER THAN THAT LOL
Oh gosh this comicon was amazing! Also brings back memories how I celebrated my 16th (if I'm not mistaken?) Bday at comicon (the 19th one I'm celebrating at college lol 💀💥)
Btw me and my friend @milkamel are working on smth interesting so stay tuned ;)

Gotta Knock A Little Harder...
This is a weird moment for me; a very weird one..It was a fateful summer at San Diego Comicon when a few folks approached me with two prosepects: Audiobooks and Fiverr, which was in its infancy at the time..I made the decision to quit project management life. A 10 year path in tech was not my goal when I moved to Los Angeles. How lovely was it that these seasoned, union actors delivered the…

The Legend of PIPI
youtube
The Legend of PIPI is a short 2D animated fantasy/comedy film that was uploaded to YouTube on the 16th of July 2022. The film is absolutely stunning with really wonderful linework and art direction.
Something that sets this film apart from other 2D animated films I have seen is its layout design. The character PIPI travels far and wide in the story and finds themself in many visually distinct locations. This journey feels convincing because we see the character PIPI always traveling from left to right, but also because we see PIPI at different scales and moving up and down in the frame. As PIPI is a small character, making them look smaller in the frame communicates how big the world around them truly is.
It seems like you can split the shots in this film into two categories
Physical comedy moving through the space
Social comedy interacting with characters in a single space
The shots in the single areas where there are interactions have very different palettes from one another and this is good because it makes the story feel like it's moving forward, and the viewer feels like time is passing. To allow these areas to be so visually distinct through colour there needs to be the glue to fix everything together and these journey shots and montages act as the visual glue where day turns to night. The film's palette starts out pretty green and yellow but by the end is pink and green.
2D animation rarely manages to be so expansive in such a short amount of time and despite the film showing such a vast journey across the land the run time is only 8:20. This is truly a testament to animation's ability to communicate and manipulate the audience's perception of space.
Notes I made while watching the film
I like the line quality and background detail, the use of soft lighting for backgrounds but a more flat approach to shading on characters is really nice. I like the colours of the lines and how it softens everything by matching the fills. The background art is stunning. the audio gag with the bush is great, the way the audio stabs and effects match the comedy movements. the transition is very nice when PIPI stays still and the background moves. the comedy montage music being quite campy really helps the comedy hit.
animal character acting - the main characters expression and manorisms are similair to the fox. beautiful art style and really effective comedy style + world building.
pinks and greens in the palette to signify danger and a new area is also really good, I must be more aware of how my palettes communicate ideas themes and possible implications and try to match this with my scenes intentions.

The Quest for Viral Content!
The statement, “I want you to make a viral video for us,” is one of the worst requests I get from clients. The truth is, creating a viral video is as unpredictable as winning the lottery. The very essence of a viral video lies in its ability to organically capture people’s attention and be shared beyond anyone’s control. However, while we can’t guarantee virality, there are strategies that can increase the chances of a video gaining significant traction.
Trend Hunting: One crucial aspect is keeping up with trends and timing. Social media moves at a rapid pace, but by staying aware of emerging trends and capitalizing on them, you can create video content that has the potential to soar. Platforms like Twitter provide valuable insights into widely used hashtags, which can be leveraged to generate content before the trend fades.
Flagpole Content: Additionally, you can plan content around seasonal events such as Christmas, The Oscars, or Comicon, getting ahead of the curve and aligning your videos with topics that will soon be in the public eye.
Fandoms: Another powerful approach is tapping into cult followings or fandoms. People have a natural inclination to engage with content related to things they love. By creating comedy sketches or themed videos centered around popular topics, you can pique the interest of these devoted communities. I experienced significant success with a video where I recreated the first level of Super Mario as a 360 3D experience. With nearly 15 million views in just a year, the content’s connection to a widely adored subject played a significant role in its triumph.
It’s crucial to keep in mind that while these strategies can enhance your chances of achieving virality, there are no guarantees. The viral phenomenon is influenced by a combination of factors, including timing, luck, and the ever-evolving preferences of online audiences. By employing these techniques, however, you can optimize your video’s potential to gain attention and engagement.
youtube
Quality, It has to be good!: Quality is crucial when it comes to creating content. It’s disheartening to see that a significant portion of the content uploaded to platforms like YouTube falls short in terms of production value. Many videos suffer from poor audio, subpar filming, or lackluster storytelling, particularly when it comes to individuals attempting to gain fame as influencers. To truly succeed and captivate an audience, it’s crucial for content creators to take their craft seriously and invest in their content.
For those who are committed to producing high-quality content, I highly recommend allocating resources and time to improve various aspects of their videos. This can involve spending significant hours perfecting the thumbnail, which plays a crucial role in attracting viewers. Additionally, meticulous analysis of video analytics for each upload can provide valuable insights into what aspects worked well and what could be improved. Treating content creation as a business requires dedication and attention to detail, and this commitment ultimately shines through in the resulting content.
By prioritizing quality and investing in their craft, content creators can distinguish themselves from the sea of mediocre videos and establish a strong presence. Viewers appreciate well-produced content, and their engagement and loyalty are often won over by the effort put into delivering a polished and compelling experience. Ultimately, a serious approach to content creation pays off in terms of audience satisfaction, growth, and success in the ever-competitive digital landscape.
Just a side note, there is the style of purposely bad that it becomes good again. Companies like Adult Swim and Funny or Die do really well with this kind of content.
youtube
E.V.S., which stands for Educational, Visually Stunning, and Storytelling, represents three essential elements that your content should possess to keep your audience engaged. Each of these components serves a distinct purpose in creating great content that resonates with viewers.
Educational content fulfills the needs of individuals seeking information or guidance. For example, when you’ve searched for a tutorial on fixing something on YouTube, you’ve witnessed the effectiveness of educational content. Providing valuable insights, tips, or knowledge in a clear and informative manner can greatly appeal to your audience’s desire for learning and problem-solving.
Storytelling is a powerful tool for captivating and entertaining your viewers. Even in something as seemingly straightforward as a music video, there is often a narrative component that draws audiences in. Humans have an inherent inclination for storytelling, and weaving narratives into your content can create emotional connections, spark curiosity, and make your content more memorable.
The visually stunning aspect requires technical skill and craftsmanship. As a designer, you understand the challenges of creating visually captivating pieces. Visual appeal can be achieved through artistic composition, cinematography, editing techniques, or visually striking graphics. It’s this element that can truly elevate your content, making it visually engaging and leaving a lasting impression on your audience.
A great example of a video that encompasses all three elements is the Super Kind series commissioned by the Los Angeles Metro. This series educates viewers about public transit etiquette while delivering visually stunning visuals and incorporating storytelling elements to engage and entertain the audience. It serves as a testament to how combining education, visual appeal, and storytelling can create exceptional content that resonates with viewers.
By incorporating at least one of these three elements into your content, you can ensure that it stands out, captures attention, and keeps your audience engaged. Whether you educate, tell a story, or create visually stunning visuals, these components can make your content compelling and memorable.
youtube
High-effort Content: H.E.C. has gained significant popularity in recent years. This type of content involves creating projects or videos that require a level of effort and dedication far beyond what the average person would typically undertake. This approach has been instrumental in the success of content creators like MrBeast, who has become one of the biggest YouTubers in the world.
High-effort content stands out because it goes above and beyond what viewers typically expect. It often involves ambitious challenges, complex projects, or extravagant concepts that captivate and engage audiences. These types of videos require meticulous planning, significant time investment, and often involve collaboration with others.
What sets high-effort content apart is its ability to capture viewers’ attention and leave a lasting impression. It demonstrates a level of commitment, creativity, and execution that goes beyond the ordinary. Viewers are often drawn to the novelty, excitement, and sense of awe that comes from witnessing these grand endeavors.
However, it’s important to note that high-effort content might not be feasible or suitable for every creator or every niche. It requires substantial resources, time, and expertise. As a content creator, it’s essential to assess your own capabilities, resources, and audience expectations to determine the level of effort you can reasonably invest in your content.
One of the best examples of high-effort content is Mr.Beast.
Marketing: Not sharing your content after releasing it is like doing homework but not turning it in. Sharing and marketing your video is crucial to ensure it reaches a wider audience and achieves the visibility it deserves. It’s important to allocate significant time and effort to promote your content after investing time in its creation. Here are some strategies to consider:
Identify relevant blogs and reviewers in your niche or industry and reach out to them. Sending your video to these influencers can help generate exposure and potentially lead to reviews or features that introduce your content to their audience.
Make use of various platforms and channels to share your video. Consider uploading it to video-sharing platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, or Dailymotion. Additionally, leverage social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to share your video and engage with your target audience.
Utilize personal networks by sharing your video with family, friends, and colleagues. Encourage them to share it with their networks as well. Word-of-mouth can be a powerful tool in increasing the reach of your video.
Consider investing in advertising to boost the visibility of your content. Just as you invest in equipment and software for production quality, allocating a budget for targeted ads can help amplify the reach of your videos. By promoting your channel and content early on, you can attract a larger audience and potentially monetize your channel in the future.
Remember, the quality of your content should always be a priority. No amount of promotion can compensate for subpar content. Ensure your video is engaging, well-produced, and provides value to your target audience. By combining high-quality content with effective promotion strategies, you can maximize the chances of your video gaining traction and attracting a loyal audience.
youtube
Going viral is not guaranteed, and it’s important to acknowledge that it’s a combination of factors, including timing, luck, and the preferences of online audiences. Even if you believe your content is exceptional and on par with creators who garner millions of views, there’s no guarantee that it will receive the same level of attention.
It’s crucial to manage your expectations and understand that your audience may not love your content as much as you do. Everyone has different tastes and preferences, and reaching a broad audience can be a challenging task. However, by consistently applying the elements and strategies we’ve discussed, you can increase the chances of your content being seen and appreciated.
Persistence is key. Each video you create is an opportunity to refine your skills, engage with your audience, and improve your content’s visibility. Learn from each release, listen to feedback, and adapt your approach. Over time, as you continue to create and share content, you’ll gain insights into what resonates with your audience and refine your content accordingly.
Remember, success in content creation is not solely measured by achieving viral status. Building a dedicated and engaged community around your content can be just as valuable. Focus on creating meaningful connections with your audience, delivering value, and consistently improving your craft. With dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to continuous growth, you can increase the visibility and impact of your content over time.

to expand on @evilwickedme's point, our Big Two cons (icon and olamot), while comparable to comicon in scale and general topics, are very very different from any con i've been to anywhere else. worldwide comicons are often about the guests of honor, and signing opportunities, and panels with famous people in them. it's very very expensive to fly anyone internationally famous to israel, so while we do get about one guest of honor per year (brandon sanderson was our last one, in 2019. I almost got trampled), most of our events are community oriented, community made.
the musicals were mentioned in this post, but yall, you dont understand, these are full on fan made musicals FROM SCRATCH, sometimes based on something, sometimes completely original, put on for a max of three shows, and i've seen some of them become cult classics to the point where they make an event just out of showing a recording (pandora musical my beloved).
you've got lectures from people who have a phd in the subject and want to Educate you about plagues in sci fi and how plausible they are in reality, you've got kids still in high school putting on presentations that'll blow your mind about queer narratives in star trek. we've got a pilot system to ensure every event is as good as it can be. the standards are HIGH.
we've also got 100% hands down the most serious approach about sexual harassment i've seen in any con, anywhere. good vibes are enforced, heavily. every staff member (it's all voluntary, but we take our job seriously) goes through a detailed presentation made by professionals on how to offer help in case something happens. they also don't allow those anime sex hoodies inside the premises, which, again, is actually enforced, you can just call the number and they'll do something about that, it's wonderful.
also, because guests of honor are relatively rare, if we get one the whole community immediately starts reading all their books in preparation, so you get authors with a disproportionately big israeli fan base because they visited once in 2013
Hi. Can you share a cool fact about Israel? How's the fan culture over there? You guys got conventions? 👀
BOY DO WE
There are 4 big conventions in Israel, run by two organisations- the Israeli Society For Science Fiction and Fantasy(known shortly as "Ha'Aguda), and AMAI, the Israeli Manga and Anime Organization.
The Aguda's conventions are the biggest and most well-known. There's Icon during Sukkot and Olamot("worlds") during Passover, and both are always in Tel Aviv. Those are the comic-con of Israel- they have everything geeky and fanish, from every type of media. They last 2-3 days, and are free to enter but you have to pay to go into specific events. Those are my favorites!
AMAI's conventions are centered around Japanese media and culture. There are also two- Harucon at Purim(the closest con), and Animatsuri at the summer. Those cons costs money to enter, but once you're inside you can go anywhere as long as there are free seats. Those cons are in Jerusalem, and are very big. They also sometimes include a run of an Animusical(anime-inspired original musical production done by members of the community)
Other then those 4, we have lots of smaller cons done by different organizations and for different specific topics- there's Meorot which is a Harry Potter and LOTR con set during Hannukah, the Aguda also has Mitopia in the summer, that's centered specifically around books, and there's Draconicon for DND and RPG players! And a lot more! Last year I also had the chance to go to the first Sha'atnez, a con surrounding specifically Jewish Fantasy and Fantastic Judaism. It was fantastic and I REALLY hope it'll be an annual thing.
Interesting thing about fan culture here- the main two groups involved in it are queers, and religious orthodox jews. Both are in the fannish scene in much larger percantages then they make of the general population! I suspect the religious thing is because Shabbat-keepers have a lot of time when all they can do is read, and queers are already very dominant in such communities, but it's still very cool I think:)
Anyway fun fact, I've been in the artist alley for... 6-7 cons up untill now? My favorite to sell in was Noar Kore which sadly does not exist anymore but I REALLY like doing those booths.

The Best Smell (Manhwa)
Genres: School Life, Shounen Ai, Webtoons, Comedy
Status: Completed
Author: Lee Man-Se
Favorite Character: Oh Kamin
Favorite Chapter: Chapter 95: Tree (3)
Plot Synopsis:
Choi Kanggo was born with a sensitive nose that can smell through a person's feelings. But when a boy who likes him approaches..?!
The story is fluffy and hilarious. I love that the main couple’s relationship isn’t fast-faced. There are some angst in their relationship, and funny moments too.
The main characters were loveable. Oh Kamin is bright, cheerful, smartest in school, and athletic. Beneath all that, he deals with his insecurities and problems at home. He put boundaries as to why his classmates find it hard to get close to him. Choi Kanggo is able to smell emotions because of that; he slowly gets Kamin to open up about his worries and lessens the burden.
I also love how each character was introduced, especially the main characters' family. It shows how they were raised and how different their family are. The art is really cute, especially the colors.
After reading it, I wanted more. I want a season 2 where they become college students and start working. Their relationship is really so cute and wholesome.
SPOILER ALERT!!
Here are some of my favorite chapters:
Chapter 27: Understanding - Finally, Kanggo confessed to Kamin that he can smell people's emotions. Kamin was not scared of it, but a little shocked and embarrassed. Kanggo was so cute when he wants Kamin to tell him that Kamin will going to keep liking him. They're so adorable together.
Chapter 29: Bang! - Kanggo confessed that he likes Kamin. Kanggo really speaks whatever is on his mind and doesn't really care about others' opinions. He doesn't care if the customers in the cafe heard him. Also, he looks so cute and handsome when he smiles after confessing his feeling.
Chapter 31: Let's play - Kanggo and Kamin decided to watch a movie. Even though Kanggo is not good with enclosed spaces he still went to hang out with Kamin. He even kiss Kamin in the cheek.
Chapter 50: The Most Favorite(6) - Kamin went to the Comicon event with Kanggo to help Kanggo's sister in selling their artwork and comics. Kanggo was jealous of his sister's friend, Horang and Kamin being close. He can smell that Horang likes Kamin. Unfortunately, Kamin and Kanggo had a misunderstanding. Kamin realized it and let Kanggo smell him and said "This is because of you, okay?" And I love how it finally sinks in to Kanggo, what Kamin meant by this is because of you. He threw his face mask and smelled Kamin again.
Chapter 67: Go! - Kanggo went back to Seoul with his uncle to meet Kamin. Kamim open up about his family struggles. He finally asked Kanggo to date him. Of course, Kanggo said yes and they kissed! They are now dating. I'm so happy for them.
Chapter 95: Tree (3) - Kamin and his grandmother are now making progress in making their relationship work. The reason this is my favorite is because Kamin said that he thought he wanted to live on his own, but actually, when he becomes an adult, he wants to live with Kanggo. He even asked Kango if they could live together. It is like he is proposing to him. This is also why I want season 2 to see their college and work lives together. I really hope there is a season 2 or even side stories. I recommend this to all BL fans. It is a wholesome story.

Who out of all troupes (you're dating) would agree to watch anime with you. My ex always said anime is stupid 😪 Also I saw the rules about the max amount but here I'm more or less just ask for like the most to less likely to watch it with you? Like just names. I hope it's fine <3
It’s more than fine, thank you for the question! 💕
Oh god good thing you put that ex- in front of him! Never approved of people who criticize others’ likes or hobbies.
Mankai watching Anime with S/O
Let’s see! Well, I genuinely think none of them would turn down you asking them to watch anime together but as you said, some of them strike me to have different approaches, hence, this classification:
First, you would have the ‘hard-core’ group. I feel like they would get really invested while watching almost any type of anime, having even posters and/or small toys of their favorite characters, so they would for sure watch it with you! Maybe even prepare a date-like marathon of some series you both liked or meeting to see the new ones that air. Add some chips, drinks and they are even more excited than you!
Here you would find:
Citron- No further questions needed, he loves it and needs more space for all the cute merchandising he has (where did he found the money for them, you don’t want to ask)
Taichi- He has the time of his life watching with you! You both are usually commenting on everything that happens in the episode. Sometimes even trying things to see how they would turn in real life.
Itaru- Okay, all the games that turn into anime? He’s seen some even BEFORE you. You got angry but he watched the together with you again.
Kazunari- Insert one hell of an amount of fanarts here. He sometimes asks if you even would want to go to the comicons together.
Homare- He would never say no to being exposed to anything art related (even more if you suggested it!) turns into big critic-review mode whenever you two end a series or specific episode.
Banri- Here comes the known-it-all. You end up bickering about which turn is too decided what to watch, however, that’s just because he loves teasing you. He’s usually fine with anything you put.
.
Then follows the ‘Daily watchers’ group. I think they very enjoy watching it but even more if you asked them to do it together (more time to be with you!) They sometimes miss things so they are grateful you fill them in with information. Sometimes, they even suggest staying in the dorm to keep up with the new season of anime starting, usually having somewhat of a preference for genres but allowing you to educate them around others.
We would have the following:
Sakuya- He’s pretty chill with whatever you end up choosing to want, enjoying them all wholeheartedly. Whenever someone in class mentions a new anime he runs to talk to you about it excited of how you would react and starts planning when to watch it.
Misumi- He’s delighted whenever you tell him you found an anime he might like. Hugs you from behind and hums as you both watch that series. Also, competition to see how many triangles you find in an episode at least once per series.
Muku- You and Muku could be the expert couple regarding shojo anime. Gushing and enjoying time watching it allow you to relax each other’s company. Friendly discussion whenever you two don’t agree with the main pairing.
Hisoka- To your surprise, Hisoka gets engaged rather easily in whatever anime you decided to watch, leaning on your lap or shoulder.
Tenma- He was a bit skeptical first, but he’s starting to become closer to the ‘hardcore!’ group as time passes. Whenever he’s out working, he calls you and you both watch it in a conference call.
Tsumugi- His students usually give him tips when he mentions an anime you might like to watch. He comes home and you two discuss to watch after dinner
Yuki- He tends to look at how the character dresses but ends up getting absorbed in the dynamic of the episode even more than you “I thought you didn’t appreciate why the lied to their families” “Changed my mind, now shush”
Tsuzuru- In a huge family like his, he’s super familiar with many animes and references so he would gladly accept watching both old and new ones. They also help him a lot to get new ideas for the plays so it killing two birds with one stone
.
Finally, we have the ‘Casual but curious!’ group. I would say they had never had much contact with anime but enjoy it with you because it means cuddling time and because seeing you simply happy watching or reacting makes them smile too. After some time they might even start asking you to put more different genres to watch together.
Here we would find:
Masumi- He accepts mostly because he loves how you rest in his arms as you two watch the TV. However, at some point he starts asking you to go with him to buy that CD from the last anime you watched together. He now has collection.
Azuma- Loves seeing your reactions change so fast as the episodes progress. He would usually prepare some drinks to have and relax watching your favourite series with you.
Omi- Even though his siblings and he himself watched anime when he was younger, he never really kept watching it as he grew up, however, he fully appreciates whenever you start explaining things to him he forgot. He usually prepares some snacks too.
Juza- He relishes any time he has with you, doesn’t matter what you two are doing. Most of the time you two usually get together and enjoy watching episodes after he finishes acting practices or if you both don’t have anything after school.
Tasuku- Not a problem if you ask for an inside-date bingeing anime. Sometimes he frowns at whatever is going on as he gets lost a lot though “Did that person start glowing up in the middle of the basket court?” “Yep”
Sakyo- Surprisingly ok although it wasn’t in his plans, he always follows the story of whatever anime you guys are watching with a rather critical eye and you find it hilarious. He blushes when he notices it.

Ch. 14
Charlie continued with the kiss for a couple of minutes, by God he had wanted to do that so badly!, while Vic was preparing his free arm to hit him and shake it off, and yet she was surprised and ashamed that she did not feel disgusted by Charlie's kiss. His lips tasted like chocolate and mint and the bastard knew how to kiss. Suddenly Charlie released her and pushed her away from him, looking at her with a mixture of stupefaction and fear as if Vic had bewitched him and forced him to kiss her, he ran out, got in the car and left without saying a word.
"You bastard!" Vic said to himself when he could react, she rubbed his lips with the sleeve of his jacket and looked at the ring to check that it was still on her finger.
While in the Wraith, Manx was cursing himself for being so weak.
- How did I come up with such an idea?! Now she will not want to continue collaborating...
"You've wanted her for a long time," the Wraith said in his mind. "You've always been impulsive."
- I do not owe. And less now. She has been promised to another man. I can not wish the wife of the other ... And it is that we are distant relatives! -He said giving a blow to the wheel
- Hey, don't pay with me!
While Vic had returned home. She was exhausted but had the strength to tell Lou everything, even the kiss Manx had given her on the spur of the moment. Vic saw that Lou was feeling insecure and that he cursed Manx, so she reassured him and said that she would rather die than stay with Manx and changed the subject:
- What do you have in mind for Wayne's birthday? A ticket for the Comicon?
Lou said:
- I would love it, but no. And he showed her a newspaper ad, where it said: Saint Bernard Puppy Sale. Pure Pedrigree. Parents of excellent character. Very good price.
-It's not a bad idea. Wayne would love a puppy. But Lou, won't a Saint Bernard won’t too big for Wayne?
-Easy, they are very docile. I've done research on breed.
- Well, do me a favor. Look at references on that breeder and prices. I'm going to lie down for a while to sleep. I'm exhausted.
- Ok. Rest well.
Vic went to sleep for a while, her head hurt horribly and her eye was bleeding, that was probably due to the fact that in the last few days she had used the Shortcut too much. After a few minutes she saw herself driving her motorcycle down the Night Road, suddenly she found a dark and old building in which there was a light. Vic was surprised, that building sounded familiar to her, she would swear it was the library where she had met Maggie but she did not know why that was there . Vic got off the bike and went to knock on the door, but it was open.
- Hello?
Since no one answered, she went up the stairs, looking from time to time through the windows of the stairs to make sure that her motorcycle was still there. She finally came to a landing, and knocked on the door. A few steps approached and the door opened.
- Hi, Brat. I was waiting for you
-Maggie ...

# 12 Comic Con
Gif credit; @prettyboyspence
Prompt: Comic Con - Spencer and Garcia go to a convention in Pennsylvania so Spencer can see his favorite cosplayer [the reader] again in person.
Couple: Spencer Reid/ Reader (female)
Category: Fluff
Content Warning: None
A/N: I wanted to write something completely fluffy, because I’ve only written angst for either the Reader or Spencer and I thought I should switch it up a little. This one shot is based on the reader being a cosplayer, but as long as you have a basic understanding of conventions this shouldn’t pose a problem. It’s not a super romantic fic, but it leans in that direction. I hope you enjoy! Like/ reblog please.
List with all stories
Word Count: 6K
_y/n_ = your name
_y/i_ = your initials
_h/c_ = hair color
Spencer tried to make himself comfortable in the economy seat of the airplane he was currently on. With his long legs, unfortunately, the task was futile. After he gave up, the lanky man returned to his book. The genius FBI agent was not on the plane for a case, in fact he was on the plane for pleasure, or at least future pleasure. Reid was on his way to Pennsylvania to attend Steel City Comic Con. He had never attended the convention before, what was really drawing him to the state of virtue and independence was the cosplayer FrindlyFighter.
Reid had stumbled across their account a few years ago. They cosplayed from Star Trek, Marvel, and many other fandoms that Spencer enjoyed. He had the opportunity of meeting FriendlyFighter at San Diego Comic Con in 2017. She was hosting a panel about the psychology of the Red Shirt from Star Trek. Although they hadn’t gotten all of the hard science right, Spencer was still enamored at someone being dedicated enough to do the research to pull off the panel. After the discussion was over he had approached the area where the host was chatting with some of the volunteers at the convention. She had noticed him and turned and walked up to him. “Hey, how are you enjoying the convention?” Spencer had stumbled over his words as he replied, “I’m good, I mean the convention has been great. I was really excited to see that you were hosting a panel this year.” The cosplayer smiled at his statement and asked, “So you’re interested in the psychological elements of Star Trek? It’s good to hear because every time I give one of these panel’s I’m not sure why there are so many people in the audience. You might say I’ve got impostor syndrome.” FriendlyFighter laughed at her self-deprecating humor and Spencer quickly replied, “I’m very interested in what you have to say. I actually use psychology a lot where I work, and I don’t think you’re an impostor. Upon hearing that one of her fans was more qualified in the field of psychology than her, she asked, “Where do you work?” She had not expected his response of, “I’m a profiler for the FBI, actually.” Her eyes grew wide at the information and she quickly said, “Wow, that must be a very difficult job. You’re a lot better at the science than I am. How did I do up there? Did I butcher all of the science?” The woman cringed at the idea, but she had asked and wanted to know if she was super off base in her assertions. Thankfully the man said, “You did really good. Not all of your claims are bullet proof, but generally you got it right.” The cosplayer relaxed and the knowledge and said, “Sorry I’m interrogating you over here, I haven’t even asked your name.” Spencer smiled and said, “My name is Spencer Reid, it’s nice to meet you.” She at him and said, “It’s nice to meet you Spencer.” The tall man stood for a second. He hadn’t realized that a short line of FriendlyFighter’s fans had formed behind him. The panelist looked back at him and said, “Would you like a picture.” At this statement Spencer smiled and fumbled for his phone. He positioned himself beside the cosplayer. She lifted her hand in the Vulcan salute and Reid snapped the photo. He said, “Thank you so much.” To which she replied, “Of course. Have a good rest of the con.”
Spencer was brought back into the moment when the wheels of the plane touched the earth with a lurch. After he had grabbed his suitcase from the baggage terminal the agent flagged down a taxi and went straight to his hotel. The hotel was just across the road from the Monroeville convention center where the event was taking place. The hotel was already bustling with guests with large props and costume pieces on their luggage carts. The atmosphere was so different from his normal 24/7 work induced stress. After the lean man made it up to his room on the fourth floor he set his suitcase in the entrance way and he flopped down on the bed. He told himself that after a short nap he would go out on the town to find something to eat, but right now he was content to rest. While Reid was sleeping Garcia was sitting on a train, also headed to Pennsylvania. She was listening to one of her favorite trashy audio books and was thinking, ‘how the hell did Reid rope me into this mess.’ After all it had only been a week ago when she had asked him, “So do you have any plans for the weekend.” The boy genius had casually brought up that he was going to a convention. Garcia wasn’t really paying attention to his rambling conversation and she cut off his stream of conscious monologue by asking, “So who’s going to be at this convention, anyone special?” When she asked this Reid changed gears and started listing off names, saying, “Well I’m really excited to see a cosplayer named FriendlyFighter, she’s part of the opening ceremony and is holding a few panels, also Denis Lawson, Wil Wheaton, Catherine Tate.” The lanky agent continued listing the names. Garcia was about to start tuning out the man, but then he said the magic words, “and some guy named Duke Lancelot of Camelot.” When Spencer said this the technical analyst quickly swung around in her chair, mouth open in surprise. Upon seeing her expression Spencer asked, “Is everything okay?” Garcia closed her mouth and said, “Duke Lancelot of Camelot is one of the most famous players of World of Warcraft. He’s a legend, Reid.” Although Spencer had never heard of this legend he said, “Well you could come with me and meet him. Just get a two day pass or something.” Garcia was so enamored with the idea of meeting one of her video game heroes that she said, “I am absolutely coming with you Spencer.” The male agent hadn’t expected such a fast response and said, “Cool. I’ll catch up with you after work and we can figure out the details.” And that was how Penelope Garcia was convinced to go to a comic con in Pennsylvania.
While Garcia was taking the slower, and safer method of getting up to the convention Spencer was just getting to the front of the registration line. A woman motioned for him to move forward to the window that she was sitting behind. When he got to the window the woman asked, “Do you have your pass pre-printed or do you need to pick it up, or are you going to buy a pass now?” As Spencer rummaged through his bag he said, “I have it pre-printed.” When Reid finally found the badge in his bag he pulled it out and held it up for the woman to see. The convention staff worker took a moment to look at the pass before she turned to the computer in front of her. She input his name and crossed it off the excel spreadsheet. After she finished this she said, “Have a nice convention Mr. Reid.” Spencer said thanks and walked toward the main hall. The opening ceremony of the con was going to start in fifteen minutes, and he wanted to be close to the front. When he had first met FriendlyFighter, or her other name on social media of _y/i_, she was a small cosplayer who had a small following. But after a few months she had grown in size, and started appearing at more and more conventions. Spencer couldn’t tell what had changed, after all she hadn’t changed her content too much. Spencer took a moment to consider that the cultural zeitgeist had changed around popular culture and conventions in general. It was true that attendance at conventions like Blizzcon or Emerald City Comicon had been going up by twenty percent each year. As he was musing over these facts the lights in the ballroom dimmed and a loud male voice came over the hotel sound system. “Friends, fans and people of all sorts, welcome to Steel City Con 2019!” The crowd cheered as the man who was making the announcement came out from behind the red curtain and stood in the center of the stage. The master of ceremony said, “My name is Greg Hicks and I’ll be your master of ceremony for the weekend. But I know you’re not here for me, so let me introduce you to just a few of the very talented people you can meet this weekend.” At this statement the crowd went wild again. Reid had to cover his ears to stop a headache from forming. Greg continued by saying, “First of all we are happy to welcome, Megan Coffee!” Megan came out from the curtain dressed as a Pokemon Go character, she waved at the crowd and said into a microphone attached to her shirt, “Hi everybody! I hope you’re ready for a good weekend.” The woman walked to the other side of the stage. Greg announced a few more people, including Duke Lancelot of Camelot. Finally the MC said, “And last but certainly not least we are happy to announce the charming FriendlyFighter!” The crowd gave less cheers as the young cosplayer came out dressed as Catra from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Spencer clapped quietly and listened as she said, “Good evening fellow fans. I’m so happy to get to see, and meet you all this weekend.” The gathered crowd dispersed after the ceremony. Many of the younger participants would stay up all night to talk or work on last minute costumes, Reid on the other hand headed back to his room at the hotel.
When he walked through the sliding glass doors Garcia was standing at guest services getting the key to her room. The tall agent used his stealth skills to walk right behind Garcia and tapped her shoulder and said, “Hi.” at the same time. The computer genius was so startled that she jumped up, screamed, spun around and hit Spencer in the stomach. The tall agent coughed and grabbed onto his abdomen and wheezed out, “Geez Penelope, I thought you were excited to hangout with me this weekend.” When Garcia realized who it was she said, “Oh my God Spence I’m so sorry.” She wrapped him in a hug and whispered in his ear, “Never sneak up on me again.” Spencer smiled at the pseudo threat and said, “I’ll take that into consideration.” Reid waited for Garcia to get her key and walked her up to her room. The blonde agents room was three doors down from his. After Garcia was settled in her room Spencer said, “I think I’m going to go to my room and do some reading.” When she heard this, the computer analyst said, “Would you wait a minute. There’s a 24 hour gaming room and I’ve heard the servers are really good. I’m going to go over there and play for a few hours. Would you walk me over?” Spencer was already feeling tired, but knew that it was 22% safer for a woman to walk at night with a man, rather than walking alone. So he replied, “Sure thing.” Garcia took off her blazer and put on a more comfortable sweatshirt over the bright pink shirt she wore. Of course Spencer had turned toward the door to not look at Penelope change, even though it was just a piece of outer clothing. As the pair returned to the convention center Garcia was catching Reid up on the interesting passengers on her train ride up to the con. Once inside the main lobby of the building Penelope took in the size of the convention. There were groups of people lounging around at the tables and couches, some in cosplay and some in regular clothes, or the people in their pajamas. Garcia thought, ‘Now those people have the right idea. But if I was in front of Reid in my P.J.’s I’d probably scar him for life.” As her eyes danced around the room they landed on a Catra cosplayer. When she saw her she grabbed Spencer's arm and said, “Oh my God. I have to get a picture with that woman.” Spencer followed the direction of her finger and he saw that it was _y/i_. The male agent could see that the guest attendant was talking to two other cosplayers and said, “That's FriendlyFighter, the person I came here to see. She looks a little busy right now.” Garcia looked up to Spencer and was shocked to see that his cheeks were flushed. With this detail in mind the analyst said, “Come on Reid, you know that guest attendants at cons usually wear a different costume each day. Maybe two costumes a day. This might be my only chance to get a picture with her.” Reid sighed and gave in saying, “Alright.”
The pair of FBI agents approached the group of cosplayers. As the agents approached the She-Ra group, they looked up at the pair. Garcia stepped forward and said, “You all look so amazing! Could I get a picture with your group?” FriendlyFighter smiled and said, “Sure thing.” The group got up and stood beside Penelope. Garcia waited a second and completely forgot that she needed to have a device to take the picture on. She fished around in her pocket and pulled out her phone, saying, “Wow I can be totally brain dead when I’m around talented people.” She found her phone and extended it out to Spencer saying, “Spence can you take the picture please?” Reid took the phone and said, “Of course.” As he swiped to open the camera, Penelope took her place again, and smiled broadly. FriendlyFighter put her arm around Garcia’s shoulder and gave the peace sign, while the Bow cosplayer held his prop bow and arrow, and Glimmer took her classic power stance. Reid held up his hand and signaled three, two, one, while saying, “Three, two one.” The lanky man took a few pictures and then stepped forward to hand Penelope her phone. As the blond woman checked her photos FriendlyFighter smiled at Reid. Once Garcia was satisfied with the quality of her pictures she said, “Thank you all so much. Your costumes are really amazing!” The whole group chorused, “You’re welcome!” and the two agents continued down the hall toward the gaming room.
As they were walking away FriendlyFighter was thinking about the tall man and wondered, ‘have I met him somewhere before.’ She wasn’t sure, but she wanted to find out, so she said to the other members of her group, “I’m going to find something out. I’ll find you in a few minutes.” The cosplayer walked after the pair moved further into the convention building. The cosplayer quickly caught up with Reid and Garcia. When the agents saw her they stopped walking and Penelope said, “Is something wrong?” FriendlyFighter blushed and said, “Um, this is kind of awkward, but have I met you before?” She pointed to Spencer and the agent opened and closed his mouth for a second. He was surprised that she would remember him at all. He considered, ‘Maybe she’s just mistaking me for someone else.’ After a moment of silence the cosplayer said, “I don’t mean to hold you up from something. I know it’s a weird question.” Spencer snapped out of his head as Garcia sharply elbowed him and the male agent replied, “I met you at SDCC in 2017. You gave a panel on the psychology of the Red Shirt in Star Trek. It was really cool.” The cosplayer nodded as she thought back to the convention so long ago. She muttered, “Yeah,” and then more loudly, but still with some hesitation, asked, “You were into psychology weren’t you. You said I didn’t completely fuck up the science?” Spencer smiled and quickly replied, “Yup, that’s me.” FriendlyFighter’s eyes lit up and she said, “Wow, that’s super cool. Sorry I don’t mean to keep you both standing here. Where are you walking, do you mind if I come with?” Spencer looked to Garcia and she smiled and said, “Where'd love for you to walk with us.” The trio continued on their journey to the game room and FriendlyFighter said, “My name is _y/n_, I’ve unfortunately forgotten yours.” The cosplayer extended her hand to Spencer, and he took it and said, “I’s Spencer Reid. Nice to meet you again _y/n_.’ _Y/n_ then looked to Garcia and extended her hand. Garcia shook it enthusiastically and said, “I’m Penelope Garcia.” “It’s nice to meet you Penelope, “ _y/n_ replied. The cosplayer turned back to Spencer and said, “I know this is already weird, but I’m giving a panel on Saturday on Trauma and Grief in the Star Wars squeals and I know that you’re really good at analyzing character traits. Would you be willing to look over my notes and make some corrections? You can totally say no, I get that it’s a big request. It’s just that I haven’t given a big panel over character psychology in a while. And now that I’m more popular I’d like to have my facts as accurate as possible.” The group had arrived at room #115 where the gaming was taking place and they all stopped. Spencer thought about the possibility for helping out one of his favorite creators and said, “I’d be happy to.” The two nerds smiled and Garcia looked at them and rolled her eyes and said, “I hate to break up this moment, but I’m just going to say goodnight to this dork.” _Y/n_ snapped out of her trance at smiling at Spencer and the male agent did the same. Spencer turned to Garcia and said, “Well, have fun in there. If you plan on coming back to the hotel later tonight, or some other ungodly hour just call me.” After _y/n_ had said goodbye to Penelope, her cosplay group found her and she was whisked away to a rave on the third floor. But not before she got Spencer’s email and said, “I’ll send you the document with my notes for Saturday.”
The next morning Spencer woke up to find an email from _y/n_ with a seven page document of well planned notes. At the top of the first page was a thesis statement that Spencer wanted to study right away, but decided to wait until he could procure some coffee. Twenty minutes later the agent was at a coffee shop, a five minute walk away from the hotel with this computer open, coffee in hand, ready to make notes on the document. Garcia had not called him last night and he assumed that she had stayed up all night and was currently sleeping off the late night gaming. After an hour Spencer had gotten his caffeine fix and added some notes to _y/n’s_ panel discussion. Spencer considered email that he had made some changes, but was cut off when he realized that a panel he wanted to see was starting in twenty minutes. He quickly closed his laptop and made a mental note to email _y/n_ by the evening.
Before Reid knew it the day was almost over. Whenever he was at a convention time seemed to slip away from him. He was currently sitting with Garcia, who had woken up at 2:00 P.M., in a panel hosted by Duke Lancelot of Camelot. The older man was giving tips on the best shortcuts to getting a high ranking in World of Warcraft. The panel had started at 8:30 P.M. and had been going on for about ten minutes and people were slowly trickling in. After another ten minutes there was only room to stand and sit at the back of the room. The door opened one more time and Penelope turned and saw _y/n_ walk in and take a seat at the back of the room. She was wearing her Mr. Spock cosplay. She apparently knew a few people already seated and she was quietly talking to them. Garcia looked over to Reid, who was zoning out of the discussion. She elbowed him again and leaned over and whispered. “Hey Spence, you’re favorite cosplayer is here. At least she has good taste.” Spencer looked confused and Garcia jerked her head in _y/n’s_ direction. Spencer turned to see _y/n_. At the same time he did this FriendlyFighter looked up and saw him looking at her. The cosplayer raised her hand slightly and waved at the agents. After the panel was over the duo walked out of the room. _Y/n_ was leaning against the wall and when she saw them she walked toward the pair. She smiled at both of them and said, “Hey, are you having a good time so far?” Garcia quickly replied, “Absolutely. I’ve been so excited for this panel, and it was worth coming up here for it.” _Y/n_ smiled and said, “The Duke is a pretty cool dude. Have you had a good time?” Spencer smiled back and said, “Yes, it’s been very fun. I actually have a few notes for you. I can email them back to you, but it might be easier to explain them if I could do it in person?” _Y/n_ nodded and said, “I think that would be useful. I need to do some last minute costume alterations and ironing, could you possibly come over to my room in an hour? I’ve got a photo shoot in ten minutes, but I’ll be free after then.” Spencer’s cheeks flushed and said he stuttered out, “Uh, yeah of course.” The man was panicking and added on, “Can Penelope come too?” _Y/n_ looked disappointed for a microsecond and then replied, “Sure thing. I’m at the hotel across the street. Room #301. See you two in an hour. Sorry I’ve gotta run, I look forward to it.” With that the cosplayer dashed down the hallway. Once she was out of earshot Garcia grabbed onto his shoulder and almost screamed, “Why would you invite me to the room with you! Reid this was a great chance for you to meet someone new. Someone who seems to be into you, shares the same interests as you.” Spencer was blushing now and said, “Well I realized that and panicked. Sorry I don’t want to make it weird.” Penelope shrugged her shoulders, understanding that Spencer’s social skills were not the greatest. She replied, “Hey I get it Spence. I’ll come with you for a little bit, but I’m going to have to dip after a while. The Duke is going to be playing World of Warcraft live and I’m not missing that for anything.
An hour later the agents walked up to room #301. Spencer knocked on the door and heard the response, “One second.” After five seconds the door swung open and _y/n_ stood in a long sleeved shirt and shorts. Her _h/c_ hair was pulled back with a headband. She stepped beside the door and said, “Please come in and make yourselves comfortable.” Once Spencer and Reid were in the room she closed the door and pulled out the chair from the desk for one of her guests to sit in. She continued saying, “Feel free to sit on the bed, I don’t mind.” At the offer Penelope made a beeline for the bed and sat down falling back and sighing deeply. At seeing this _y/n_ laughed and said, “I feel you Penelope. I love a con, but it’s killer on the feet.” Garcia laughed and replied, “Talk about it, I must have walked ten miles alone today.” While this conversation had been happening Spencer took a seat at the desk and pulled out his computer. He looked over to _y/n_and said, “If you give me a second I can pull up my notes, if that’s cool with you.” _Y/n_ nodded and said, ``That sounds awesome.” As Spencer booted up his computer the cosplayer walked back to the iron draped in a black robe. She picked up the steaming device and looked down pressing the seams of the fabric to create a crisp seam. Garcia was looking around the room and her eye’s caught sight of the three light sabers in the room and had to ask, “Um, _y/n_, I’ve always wanted to get a light saber. Could I test your’s out? I promise I’ll be gentle.” The cosplayer laughed again and looked up to Penelope saying, “Well they're not all mine. It was my job to be the pack horse for my group in terms of the light sabers. The trisaber is mine and you are absolutely free to try it out. Press the top button to turn on the light and the bottom button for sound effects.’ Garcia giddily got up and cautiously held the replica of Kylo Ren’s trisaber. She pressed both buttons. She swung it around carefully. Spencer turned to look at his friend being a child , and then turned to _y/n_ saying, “I’ve got my comments pulled up, if your ready.” _Y/n_ turned from Garcia’s enthusiasm to Spencer's down to earth manner. She turned off the iron and was about to sit down on the ground, but before she could Spencer stood and said, “Please take the chair.” The cosplayer smiled and said, “Thanks.” Penelope quieted down and returned to the bed. She silently watched Reid interact with the other woman. It was so rare to see him with someone else that was not the team. It made Penelope's heart glad.
The two nerds were on paragraph three and _y/n_ was saying, “So do you think that my analogy between Ben and Rey and Romeo and Juliet is too cliche?” Spencer replied, “No not at all. But I do think that you need to specifically pin down how their relationship is considered in the genre of star crossed lovers.” _Y/n_ got up from her seat and reached into a suitcase and pulled out her copy of Romeo and Juliet. As she opened the first page she said, “I need to find a scene that will give supporting evidence to the claim.” Before the girl could even turn to the second page Reid had said, “Act 3 scene one page 6.” Before Reid could quote it to her, the cosplayer said, “Get thee to a nunnery, go. Farewell. Or, if thou wilt needs marry, marry a fool, for wise men know well enough what monsters you make of them. To a nunnery, go, and quickly too. Farewell.” Reid nodded and the woman in shorts said, “That’s perfect, It would totally parallel when Ben and Rey see each other through their dyad bond in The Last Jedi.” Reid agreed with the assertion. Before the pair could spring into the next paragraph Penelope got up from the bed and said, “Alright team. It sounds like you’ve done some good work, but from what I hear from Spencer you have at least another hour of work to do; and I have a panel to get too. So I’m going to boogie out of here and leave you to work.” Spencer and _y/n_ turned, almost forgetting that Garcia was in the room. Spencer took his arm off the back of _y/n’s_ chair and stood up straight. _Y/n_ got out of the chair and held out her arms and said, “I don’t know about you, but I’m a hugger.” Penelope leaned into the woman's arms and said, “I hope you know you’re really cool.” _Y/n_ smiled at the complement and opened the door for Garcia, after the blond agent assured Spencer that she did not need to be walked over to the convention center. Once Penelope had left _y/n_ looked to Spencer and said, “You’re girlfriend, partner, wife, is really cool.” The cosplayer didn’t know Reid’s relationship to the other agent, and she didn’t want to assume anything. She looked up to Spencer who’s cheek’s were redder than before. He said, “Penelope’s just a friend from work. We’re not together.” Now it was _y/n’s_ turn to blush and she cleared her throat before saying, “Oh, um, sorry for assuming. I just thought..” Spencer released a breath and then replied, “So you want to get back to work?” At the last page of notes the panelist put her hands over her eyes and said, “Could I take a quick break. Looking at a screen for so long makes my head hurt.” Spencer replied, “Of course.” The young woman stood up and moved over to the bed and lay back on it, like Garcia had done an hour earlier. Spencer, who thought that being alone in a room with _y/n_ would be very uncomfortable, was finding the sound of her breathing very comforting. The man looked around the room and stared wistfully at the light saber Garcia had banished earlier. _Y/n_ noticed the direction of his glance and said, “You can try it out too if you want.” Spencer got up and inspected the light saber. After examining it closely for a minute the man said, “This is so accurate to the real prop. Did you make it yourself?” The girl on the bed smiled and replied, “I’d give most of the credit to my grandfather. I’m not very good with electronics.” After Reid had swung the object around for a few minutes he set it down. The man looked to the computer and the last page of the document. The cosplayer looked at the screen and blinked a few times before hesitantly asking, “Would you mind if you brought the computer over to the bed, and we finished it here.” The women moved over the bed to make room for Spencer. The blush was back on Reid’s face as the man grabbed the computer and sat down on the bed. It only took five minutes to finish the last page and Reid wasn’t sure how, or what to do next. Thankfully _y/n_ sat up and said, “Thank’s Spencer. I’m sure this job doesn’t seem very important, but my joy comes from talking to people as characters that I like, and I want to make the most of my fans happy as possible. My other job is a dead end, and at least here I can live a little. I owe you for this one.” Reid smiled and said, “I think you make a lot of people happy with this work. You make me happy.” The last sentence came out unintentionally but it made _y/n_ happy to hear. She got up and plugged the iron back in and looked back at Spencer on the bed and said, “You can hang here as long as you want. Just be prepared for me to curse at my inept ability to sew.” Reid ended up staying another thirty minutes helping the woman hold onto loose fabric that couldn’t be reigned in by the iron. When he left her room she had said goodnight, and he was shocked that there was no hint of awkwardness around them. It was a new sensation for him. She had even asked him and Penelope to come backstage before she went to her panel, she offered to get him the best seats in the room if he wanted.
The next day arrived and Spencer accompanied Garcia to her photo op with the Duke and they both watched one of the cosplay competitions that _y/n_ was judging. The award had gone to a younger cosplayer that had accurately recreated a costume from Hamilton. In the next hour Spencer and Garcia were standing at the lobby of the hotel when FriendlyFighter approached them in her Kylo Ren costume, sans mask. She smiled when she saw them and said, “I’m happy you want to come backstage. It’s pretty boring, but something that not every con goer gets to see.” The group crossed the street and the panelist checked her guests backstage. When behind the curtain she pointed to two chairs in front of the room that were marked as ‘reserved.’ When it was ten minutes to the panel _y/n_ turned to Spencer and said, “How would you like me to credit you for your contributions to the panel?” The male agent replied, “You can just say that a friend looked it over.” Reid said this to both conceal his identity, and because he was just happy to help a friend out. The cosplayer was struggling to put her helmet on, plus hold her notes and light saber when Spencer offered to put the helmet on for her. _Y/n_ handed the agent the helmet and Spencer placed it over her head. Just as the FBI duo was about to walk to their reserved seats Penelope’s phone went off. The agent picked up and her appearance suddenly looked very seriously. The other two nerds looked her way when she said, “Yes Sir. We’ll catch a flight right away. Yes of course, I’ll tell Reid.” When Penelope hung up Spencer looked over to her and asked, “New case?” Garcia nodded and said, “In rural Ohio. We need to go right away.” Spencer nodded and turned to _y/n_ who was looking concerned for both of her new friends. Reid said, “I’m sorry, we have to go for work. It was really fun meeting you. Have a great rest of your convention.” Before Reid could walk away the cosplayer grabbed a pen from a nearby table and took Spencer’s arm, scribbling her number on his arm. After doing so she said in a muffled voice, “Text me, stay safe out there.” She then turned and took a couple of deep breaths to calm her nerves. As Spencer and Garcia ran out of the backstage area they could both hear the Imperial March playing over the ballroom speakers, The panel was beginning.
It wasn’t until the con going agents were in the jet with the rest of the team that Penelope asked Spencer the question that had been on her mind for an hour. The team had made an emergency landing to pick up Spencer and Garcia from the Pennsylvania airstrip. Garcia snapped back to the present and asked, “Are you going to text her?” Spencer’s eyes snapped to hers. He bit his lip and said, “We’re going to find a serial killer that targets people _y/n’s_ age. How can I text her when my job is to find monsters lurking among us?” Penelope looked sad and replied, “And what are you going to do when we get him Spence? Who are you going to go home to and relax with, because I sure as hell know you’re not relaxing in your apartment when you come home after cases like these.” Penelope left the question open as she stood up and sat next to J.J. After another ten minutes Spencer pulled out his personal phone typed in _y/n’s_ number. The ink from her writing still faintly showing on his arm. He texted, “Hey, it’s Spencer Reid. Sorry I had to run earlier today. I hope that I can see you again soon under less stressful circumstances for both of us.” After Reid hit send he relaxed back into his chair. It wasn’t until after the panel, that had been a roaring success that _y/n_ saw the text from Spencer. The cosplayer pulled off her right glove so she could text back, “Sounds good. Stay safe and let me know when it’s convenient to plan a get together. I’m giving a panel on The Lord of The Rings and I need my resident expert to give me notes while I plan my speech.”C

Luz’s mother really doesn’t want to send Luz to camp. She knows once she leaves, there is no going back. But Luz has a knack for getting into trouble, and one day she stumbles into the same type of people her mother would have preferred she avoided. After helping Luz dissolve her high school bully into dust, Eda and Lillith know right away that this kid is just like them - a child of the gods. So Luz hops on a Pegasus and heads to Camp Half-blood, where she embarks on a dangerous quest that makes her both friends and enemies... and she might even save Olympus along the way.
Chapter 1: I Steal My Bully's Necklace
“Get up, you freak!”
Luz coughed as she struggled to breathe after being thrown into the lockers. The wind had been knocked out of her and she already felt a lump forming on the back of her head where she had smacked it.
She was having the worst day at school, and that was saying something. Somehow, by some miracle, she had made it through the whole year at this one. But she had a terrible feeling that her luck wouldn’t last. Especially if the mean girl in her biology class wasn’t going to leave her alone.
She looked up to see the girl in question standing over her, grinning sadistically at her. She rubbed her hands together like some kind of mobster villain, her dog tag necklace hanging from her neck, and Luz fought the urge to roll her eyes. Lina had tormented her all year, and no matter what Luz did she couldn’t seem to shake her. Her dark amber eyes, (Luz swore sometimes they were almost red) were watching her like the next thing she would do to her was eat her. Her posse, two other girls her age, watched with their own small smiles.
She winced as she got to her feet, trying to control her anger. Terrible things happened when Luz got upset. She didn’t like this girl, but it wasn’t worth getting expelled over. Again.
This was Luz’s fifth school in twelve years. Ever since she started kindergarten, Luz was the problem child. She always managed to land herself into trouble, and she never really knew why. Half the time she hadn’t even done anything, weird things just seemed to happen to Luz. The other kids thought she was weird, so they never hung out with her, and so Luz had never really had any real friends. Teachers didn’t really like Luz either, her ADHD made learning really difficult, and so she always got bad grades. So when weird things would happen, the principal wouldn’t think twice. She would usually get expelled on the spot.
She didn’t want to get expelled again. Her Mami would be so disappointed in her. When Luz and her Mami had to move to New York City, her Mami had threatened her really good when they finally found a school that would take her.
“This is it, mija.” She had said. “I’m not doing this anymore. You either stay at this school and graduate or I’m sending you away to camp.”
That’s when Luz knew it was serious. Her Mami had not wanted to send her away to this camp. She had always threatened it when Luz was a little kid, but her Mami had never actually wanted to do it. She was stern, but Luz was all she had.
Besides, Luz never really understood why a summer camp would help straighten her out. If the military school she had gone to when she was ten was any indication, even they couldn’t get through to her.
Regardless, Luz wasn’t going to disappoint her Mami. So she got to her feet and did the first thing she could think to do.
She ran.
Breaking through the crowds of students who had been watching Lina bully her in the hallways, Luz ducked under the crowds and made a break for the staircase.
“Run, Luz Noceda!” Lina cackled as she fled. “Run from me!”
Anger flashed through Luz. She hated running. She wanted to stand and fight, to tell Lina off and get her to stop being a jerk. But she was outnumbered, and nobody would believe her anyway when something inevitably went wrong. Its like her Mami said, “just keep your head low, Luz. Don’t engage, don’t fight back. Don’t give them a reason to punish you.”
So, despite the shame bubbling up in her chest, she kept running. She heard a commotion behind her, and Lina saying something to her friends before there was a cry of shock. And something that sounded strangely like hooves clamping along the tile.
Lina yelled something that definitely wasn’t English, but Luz understood it perfectly. Lina was following her, and the weirdness was starting again. She had to go before somebody blamed it on her.
Tearing down the stairs and pushing open the side exit to her school, Luz bolted down the alley she uses to get to the bus stop she takes home. It was her lunch period, so she’s hoping that by the time she gets back to school Lina will have long forgotten about her and she can get to her English class in one piece.
But then there’s a crash, and a furious scream from behind her and she realizes that Lina is following her. She begins to panic, picking up speed and darting into the new alley behind 94th street. There is a chain-link fence up ahead, and she breaks into a fresh sprint, launching her body up against it and over to the next street ahead.
Luz doesn’t know when she decided she wasn’t going back to school, but she knew that she needed to get away from Lina. She spared a glance back as she darted into the trafficked street, weaving through cars. Lina was still following her, her red eyes boring in fury into Luz’s back.
Luz gets onto the first bus she sees and fumbles for her MetroCard in her back pocket, slamming it down on the pad without looking back. She breaks for the back of the bus, crouching into an aisle seat and shrinking her whole body away from the window. She pulls the hood of her cat hoodie over her head, praying she wasn’t seen. The bus starts to move, thankfully without Lina on it, and Luz tries to let her body relax.
She zones out, wary of everyone getting on the bus. After some time, the realization that she doesn’t actually know where she’s going hits her like a truck. At the next stop, she gets up and darts off the bus, passing a quick thank you to the driver. When she steps out into the street, she realizes she has traveled all the way down to 34th street, and the Empire State Building is glaring down at her several blocks away.
Luz isn’t quite sure what to do now. She wasn’t going back to school today, that was for sure. Her Mami could be mad at her for skipping later. It was the end of the year, and Luz had unofficially made it all the way through.
Deciding she should celebrate, Luz walks around the city for a little while. Her Mami would never want her to wander off on her own, but she decided after the incident with Lina at school she deserved it. She remembers the awesome candy store her Mami took her to when they moved to the city, and pulls out her phone to punch Dylan’s Candy Bar into her maps. It’s only 20 minutes away, so she begins the trek through the city, putting in her earbuds and shuffling her favorite anime playlist.
Once she’s inside and picks out five chocolate bars and a pack of lemonade gumballs. As she approaches the register, the girl working the counter likes Luz so much, she throws in an extra bar for free. Luz thanks her enthusiastically, and she pays with the money she was going to use for lunch. She leaves the store and sits, beginning to chow down on her snacks on the street curb outside, but her eyes are still wearily scanning the streets as through Lina might appear at any moment. As she does this, she catches sight of the two strangest looking women she’s ever seen.
They’re both middle-aged, the first with black hair and piercing green eyes. The second is a little taller, with huge silver-grey hair. But what catches her attention is that both women are wearing huge, cosplay style cloaks – white and maroon respectively.
The woman with the huge hair and maroon cloak has a strange bird on her shoulder. Luz thinks it might be an owl. Not only that but when she squints Luz is almost positive the one with the white cloak has a weapon strapped to her belt. Her mouth immediately drops, and she gets up off the curb just as the pair duck into an alleyway. Tucking the remaining three chocolate bars into her blue backpack, (which has miraculously stayed on through her whole fight with Lina) she weaves through the streets to follow them. Luz wonders to herself if there’s some kind of Comicon or other convention she was missing.
She sneaks through the alleyway, peering at the two behind a dumpster. They are talking in low voices, so Luz slowly creeps forward to listen in.
“- called us to Olympus, it must be serious, Edalyn.” The first one says lowly.
“Don’t sweat it, sissy. We’ve been called in by dad before. It’s probably just another one of those check in’s.” The second says, shrugging.
“You must feel it.” The first mutters urgently. “The tension between the gods is only going to grow from here.”
“We have to stay patient, Lilith.” The second woman, Edalyn, responds. “Of course I’ve felt it, but until we’re told to summon the Oracle-”
“There you are!”
Luz squeals dropping her gumballs all over the alley, spinning around the dumpster to come face to face with Lina. She is furious, her red eyes boring into her, and she snarls at her angrily. Luz shrieks, realizing that Lina’s mouth is stretching to expose a pair of vicious and sharp looking fangs.
There is a commotion from behind her as the two women have realized they have been overheard, and Luz begins to feel guilty for eavesdropping. But she doesn’t turn to look at them, she has bigger problems right now.
“I have been hunting you for months, Luz Noceda,” Lina growls, baring her fangs. “You will not escape me again!”
“Please!” Luz exclaims, holding up her hands. “I don’t want to hurt you!”
“Hurt me?” Lina laughs, taking a few menacing steps forward. “You cannot hurt me, little demigod. I will kill you before you get the chance!”
Before Luz can process anything that is happening, Lina shifts, her body changing rapidly. Her feet morph out of her tattered jeans into one metallic leg and one with hooves, and Luz can’t help but scream. Lina leaps at her and out of pure instinct, Luz rolls. Lina flies past her and Luz presses her back against the brick building behind her in terror.
“What are you?” She yelps, her whole body vibrating in horror.
“That’s an empousai, kid.” The woman with the red cloak says calmly, and when Luz turns her head, the two women are staring down Lina with disinterest. Luz can’t believe how calm they are.
“A what?”
And before Luz can pinch herself to make sure she isn’t dreaming, the dark-haired woman reaches under her cloaks and draws the weapon that shimmers the shiniest bronze Luz has ever seen. The blaze shifts and forms right in front of her eyes from a knife into an eight-foot sharp staff. The grey-haired woman plucks the bird off of her shoulder and it coos (Luz is certain now it’s an Owl) before the bird shifts into a seven-foot bronze tipped spear.
Lina the empousai, or whatever she is, hisses at the sight of the blade.
“Daughters of Zeus,” she says, trying to remain composed. But Luz has been bullied by Lina for months now, and she knows she looks nervous. “This is no business of yours.”
“Actually, I think this is our business.” The dark-haired witch, Lilith, says coldly. “Any half-blood we find is under our protection. What is a servant of Hecate doing hunting a child of the gods?”
Lina shuffles her legs – or…hoof and metal leg – and is now visibly nervous. Edalyn smirks, exposing a single gold tooth that sticks out like a fang.
“Unless… Hecate doesn’t know you’re here,” she singsongs, and Lina growls ferociously and lunges towards the woman.
“I will kill you before she ever finds out!” She roars, and both women sidestep from the lunge. Edalyn stabs with her spear, which Lina deflects off of her metal leg. Lilith swings with her staff, and Lina ducks. Luz has been forgotten, and she is shaking violently against the wall, trying to get a grip as to what the heck is even happening right now.
What did Lina call her? A demigod? The Lilith called her a half-blood… that was a really insulting insinuation for someone who was biracial, Luz thought. Besides, she wasn’t biracial, her Mami told her that her father had been a businessman visiting from Brazil. But those women… she had called them the daughters of Zeus?
Even if Luz was confused, she recognized what was happening. Those women had jumped to her aid despite Luz eavesdropping on them. These women were protecting her, even if she was a complete stranger. So despite her shaking body, and the fact that she was probably bordering an anxiety attack, she leaped in to help.
While Lina’s back was turned, Luz took a running leap and lunged, wrapping her arms around Lina’s neck and squeezing. Lina roared in frustration and did her best to shake her off, and Luz heard Edalyn cackling in the background.
“Alright! Get em’ kid.”
“Edalyn, focus!” Lilith snapped before she swung her own staff.
Lina tucked backward, but she wasn’t fast enough to totally dodge the blade, and it skimmed her stomach. She roared in pain and anger and finally knocked Luz away from her, and she went skidding across the ground. Coughing, Luz got to her feet and looked up at Lina’s stomach. The slice stretched across her stomach, but there was no blood. Instead, the slash seemed to be slowly dissolving her body. Lina looked down on it and hissed, glaring her red eyes up at Luz with absolute hatred.
She screamed again and charged at Luz, who scrambled backward in panic, but Lina never got closer. Edalyn spun her spear around her back and lunged, stabbing Lina right through the side. With a final scream, her whole body began to disintegrate into dust, before all that was left of her was a small pile of ashes and Lina’s dog tag necklace.
Spinning the spear, it shifted back into the owl which perches itself on Edalyn’s shoulder. Lilith spins her own staff, turning it back to a knife and clipping it to her belt. Luz was left staring at the pile of dust with a wide-eyed, and totally shocked expression. Her adrenaline was starting to fade, and it was beginning to change into full-blown panic.
“What just happened?” She said, but it came out as more of a breathy squeak. “Did we just kill her?"
Edalyn shrugged and held out her hand to help Luz up, which she took. “Yes, and no. Monsters don’t really die, they just return to Tartarus and wait to respawn.”
“They go where to do what?” This sentence was so high pitched she was surprised either of them heard it.
“Edalyn, give her a minute to process,” Lilith mumbled eying Luz like she was broken glass about to shatter.
“She doesn’t need to process, she’s probably been through it all by now.” She retorted with a roll of her eyes. Looking down at Luz with a knowing glint in her eyes, she pulled her to her feet and reached over to brush some of the dirt off her hoodie. “Let me guess, kid. You’re a bit of a problem child, always moving from place to place… weird things happen to you that nobody else can explain?”
Luz blinked. “Yeah, exactly like that. How’d you know?”
She laughed as if Luz had just said the funniest thing she’d ever heard. “Because we’re all like that. You’re an older one too, you’ve probably been on the monster's scent for a while. I don’t know how you possibly stayed alive without any help from camp.”
Luz felt a chill go up her spine. “Wait, camp? My Mami mentioned a camp… she always threatened to send me there if I didn’t straighten up…”
Edalyn and Lilith shared a look before they turned back to her.
“That monster said your name was Luz right?” Edalyn said, a little softer this time.
Luz nodded her head. “Yeah, that’s me. Luz Noceda.”
“I’m Eda, and this is my sister Lilith,” Eda said with a smile. “We’re the co-directors of Camp Half-blood.”
“Camp Half-Blood,” Luz said in a monotone voice. “Half what? I’m Latina.”
They shared another look.
“Half-blood doesn’t have anything to do with race,” Lilith said slowly. “It means people who are half-human, and half god.”
Luz’s mouth dropped open. She stared blankly between the two of them, not even sure what to say.
“God? Like…. Jesus?” she stuttered out, and Eda chuckled.
“No, like Greek God, kid. Half-bloods are kids with one human parent and one godly parent.” She reached under her cloak and pulled out a necklace that had been concealed previously. It had a gold pendant the shape of a thunderbolt. “Lily and I are sisters, but we have the same godly parent. Zeus.”
Luz’s brain began to finally work again, and she did her best to just try and process what she was saying. Nodding slowly, Luz does her best to recall her minimal knowledge of Greek deities she’s learned from books and movies.
“The god of the sky.” Luz nods, and Eda shrugs.
“Sure, among other things.”
Luz begins to pace, as she always does when her brain is moving too fast for her body. “Lina called me a demigod. Are you saying that my dad is a Greek God?”
“Well, that helps narrow down the possibilities,” Lilith said, keeping her voice calm and mellow. “A while ago the god’s made a promise to claim all of their children by the time they turn thirteen.”
“I’m fourteen,” Luz said. “Does that mean my dad forgot about me?”
“Nope, you just haven’t come to camp yet,” Eda said with a grin. “Most demigods come to Camp Half-Blood for training to defend themselves against monsters. The older you get, the stronger your scent is to them. You’re lucky you’ve been able to stay so inconspicuous for so long.”
Luz was suddenly presented with a lot of options for the first time in her life. Despite everything she had just learned, she wasn’t scared, or afraid. It actually made so much sense. All those terrible memories she could never explain, like the man with one eye who had tried to get her into his car when she was eleven. Or the women with leather wings who had watched her from the playground in first grade. All those weird things, that nobody had ever believed, finally clicked.
And sure, her Mami always told her not to trust strangers, but she figured this was a bit of an extenuating circumstance. Eda and Lilith were weird, but Luz liked it. She finally felt like she was seen and understood.
Plus, they had just killed her high school bully. She owed them one. Not that she needed much convincing anyways on what she wanted to do next.
“Will you take me?” Luz asked quietly, looking up at them slowly. “I mean... if you aren’t too busy or anything?”
Eda and Lilith shot each other a little smile, before nodding.
“Sure kid, we did have a meeting at Olympus, but Lily can go in my place.”
“It’s our job to make sure demigods get there safely, it’s our first priority,” Lilith added, clasping her hands together. “Edalyn, do you have your Pegasus whistle?”
“Oh yeah, I’ve got that here somewhere…” Eda mumbled, digging through her cloak pockets. Luz was still trying to fathom the fact that they had a meeting at the actual Mount Olympus when Eda pulled out a little bronze whistle and blew it into the sky.
After a second, there was a swooshing sound coming from above us, and the most beautiful horse Luz had ever seen glided down in the alley. It was a pure white horse with gorgeous wings that it tucked back into its sides as it came to a stop next to Eda.
“Oh wow!” Luz said in awe, and the Pegasus snorted almost bashfully.
Lilith walked over to the pile of dust that was once Luz’s bully and picked up the dog tag necklace still lying on the ground. She handed it to Luz, who took it hesitantly.
“It’s a spoil of war,” Lilith explained, giving Luz a small smile. “Your first kill as a half-blood.”
Luz didn’t really want it, she didn’t have the fondest memories of Lina. But she didn’t understand a lot of this half-blood stuff yet and wasn’t going to start by refusing Lilith.
“Err… thanks.” She ended up saying, and thankfully, Lilith laughed.
Eda leaped over the horses back, extending a hand to Luz. “Well? Are you coming?”
Luz hesitated for only a second. She thought about her mom back home, and how she was going to be wondering in a couple of hours why she wasn’t home from school. But she quickly pushed it down as she thought about what awaited her. She could call her when she got to camp.
Throwing the necklace over her shoulders and taking Eda’s hand, the women helped Luz sit behind her on the horse. Waving goodbye to Lilith with the promise to see her later at camp, Eda urged the Pegasus into a run down the alleyway. The horse began to pick up speed as they almost hit the busy street, before it leaped into the air, taking flight. Luz whooped in glee, feeling the wind blow through her face as she gripped the back of Eda’s cloak.
She looked down at the busy moving streets in Manhattan and realized with the confusion that nobody seemed to be looking twice at them.
“If I saw something as cool as this, I would have stared,” Luz mumbled to herself, almost offended nobody thought this was as awesome as she did.
She heard Eda laugh, and Luz’s cheeks flushed red. She hadn’t meant to be overheard.
“Mortals don’t see things the way we do. There’s a layer that covers their eyes from seeing our world. We call it the Mist.”
Soon, the Pegasus had left Manhattan, and the pair were flying over Queens. The view, while still being amazing, was starting to not be enough to keep Luz’s thoughts at bay. Turning to Eda, she realized she still had so many questions. Her eyes trained onto the little owl tucked onto Eda’s shoulder. Now that she’s looking at him, she realizes he looks 100% real. He coos softly into Eda and blinks it’s gold eyes brightly at her in a way that looks friendly.
“Owlbert is waiting for you to pet him,” Eda comments offhandedly, and Luz jumps back as though she was shocked.
“Owlbert?” She repeats back, and Eda nods her head. Taking that as enough encouragement, Luz hesitantly reaches forward and tickles the owl's tummy. He feels soft and warm, just like a real tiny owl. When she strokes him, he coos again happily.
“Owlbert's both a great weapon and a great companion,” Eda says with a smile, shooting Luz a wink. “A gift from a goddess after I helped her on a quest when I was just a little older than you.”
Luz lets herself process that information.
“My Mami said she didn’t want to send me to camp,” she eventually says, as though it’s some scandalous secret. “If it’s supposed to be a safe place for people like me… why wouldn’t she want me there?”
Eda hummed, and Luz picked up that Eda had been wondering the same thing. “Some parents want to protect their kids from this world. It’s dangerous, and the less you know the safer you are. That’s probably why you’ve been able to evade monsters like the empousai.”
“Lilith said the empousai was a servant of Hecate,” Luz commented, leaning over to look at Eda’s face. Her gold eyes were looking back at her playfully. “If my dad is a god, why would another god’s servant attack me?”
“Gods have been around much longer than us, Luz,” Eda said with a shrug. “They have a history that precedes any of us. Maybe your dad angered Hecate at some point.”
“But she looked scared when you said Hecate didn’t know she was there,” Luz pointed out, and Eda broke into a grin.
“You’re smarter than you look, kid. And I can’t say for sure why she was there, but a lot of weird stuff has been going on in our world recently.” She hummed thoughtfully, turning her eyes to look ahead once again. “Lily thinks it’s the reason we were called to Olympus. Your monster friend might have something to do with it.”
“She’s not my friend.” Luz retorted, biting her lip. “I don’t have any friends. People at school don’t like me.”
“You’re not the only weirdo out there,” Eda said, shrugging her shoulders. “None of us at camp fit in with the other mortals. That’s why Lily and I work so hard to keep the camp safe. Us weirdo’s have to stick together, you know? Camp Half-blood is our home.”
Luz felt her heart warm up at that, and she broke into a smile of her own. She liked the thought of that, being with people just like her in a place that genuinely felt like home. She had moved around so much, and been outcasted by so many kids her age, she had never known what that truly felt like. All she had was her Mami.
After the Pegasus left Queens, Luz wasn’t really sure where she was or where they were heading. But soon the smell of saltwater began to fill her nose, and Eda perked up in front of her.
“We’re close now. The camp is near Long Island Sound. Get ready to descend.”
Luz peaked over Eda’s shoulder, her stomach flipping in both nervousness and excitement. Eventually, the Pegasus swooped into a downward glide, and Luz got her first glimpse of the camp.
There were camp cabins stretched across what looked like a pavilion and a beach where she could see a few canoes. It looked like people eventually caught sight of the Pegasus, and when they saw Eda, they waved up at them. Most of the campers she saw were wearing orange t-shirts, and Luz noticed that a lot of them had some kind of weapon strapped to their belts.
Finally, the Pegasus touched down on a grassy field, and Luz could see a huge house with sky blue sliding sitting on top of a hill surrounded by strawberry fields. Luz breathed in a gasp. The place was beautiful.
Eda leaped off the Pegasus, and a crowd began to gather around them. Luz began to feel anxiety at the number of eyes staring at them, but then Eda extended a hand to her, shooting her a warm and excited smile.
“We're here, Luz. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood.”
