sooo many thoughts. I hate what they're doing in this comic where Guy is kind of getting sidelined. He's relegated to quirky little one-liners like 'he did what now?' and 'did we win?', so unimportant that even when White Lantern Kyle is spotted, only Hal and John rush off to get him. Kyle freaking Rayner is for some reason no longer important enough to Guy--or moreso, Guy is no longer important enough to the writer for him to be truly a part of whatever dumbbullshit they're doing. which I guess might be deemed "for the best." but MAN.

For the first image: weird, generic, flat agging that seems painfully unlikely to be coming from Guy & overall fails to impress, made worse by the fact this writer makes Guy swear. Not a dopey Catholic stance, or anything, I just find reading censored swears to be embarrassing. I thought comic writers have long retired the old perception that comic fans (or even simply 'comic buyers') are kids, so while there's certainly an audience for children in comic books, I'm always surprised by the choice to not only include swearing but to also censor it. If we're considering our child audience, it is more fitting to not include any swearing at all. Yes it's going to lead to lighter, or sometimes sillier or more ridiculous insults and adjectives, but I'd rather that than these obnoxious proto-badass moments. It is the lamest convention because it isn't even fun. Comic strip characters have to curse in at- and pound-signs, because newspapers are sold to fucking everyone. It's just me, Hot Topic Clerk #7, and Old Joe Comiclover at the comic store most days. I don't think any of us give a fuck if a comic book character curses.

Another thought on that is that comics are better without swearing in them--it usually leads to funnier turns of phrase or at least more creativity. I'm a jerk and I do think it's kind of hacky.

However then we see Guy using a fist with a spiked bracelet on it, adding to the theory he would freaking love Bowser so all is forgiven baby

An upside to this series has surprisingly been that Guy and Jo are friends! I think the last time I saw something like that was in a comic I don't remember the title of lol. But I think Guy used a chainsaw construct in that one too, and was drawn a lot like Scout from TF2. Otherwise I don't really know if it's consistent for Guy and Jo to be friends. I hope writers give Guy more fucking friends. I'm so sick and tired of him forming friendships and having them walked back or destroyed by different writers. I suppose if he and Steel had colonized a living island and turned it into a casino instead of just destroying a roller coaster fighting baddies and making Popeye references then maybe Guy and Steel would have had staying power as friends. That goes for fuckin' everything too, man. Booster used to be way friendlier with Guy but that all got walked back--I'm glad Guy and Ted are chummy in comics now, but I'd like for that to be the case with more of his relationships. I want to see him be developed outside of just 'uhhh you MIGHT want to see this' and other quirky hecking sidekick turns of phrase. mannnnnnn

I like the uglycuteness of the middle panel above, and I don't mind the generic and boring way that they make Guy take potshots at bad guys because at least 'crash your party' is like something close to colorful language. it feels like something he'd say. I'm with it, to an extent...

It was overall okay. I gave it 3/5 stars on LOCG. Middling Guy writing that leaves a lot to be desired is much better than the utter garbage I've had to contend with before. Grateful that it's mediocre, at this point.
