Late night scribble/ Practice inks Of a page I pencilled a while back Boba Fett vs Gambit part 2 For Excited Studios Covid i think is gone but gout flare up is.... a pain :( although Tuesday, Wednesday and most of yesterday. The pain was just pulsing. Today not so much. Still can't walk but at least I could concentrate and finish of this page This was a lot of fun to draw and though it wasn't in the script I got to stick in lot of random characters in the background. I made some changes in the inking stage. Added a baby GROOT on panel 2 next to VAMPIRELLA and in the final panel I originally pencilled in HULKS leg and hand to represent KNUCKLES enforcer... but it's a bit too obscure so changed it to what I hope would be a little clearer. Bit of a throw back. This is from a project called 'dream police''. You may not have heard of it and this is why. During the two years it took to draw it my aunt died, my best friend moved abroad, I got jaundice, I was diagnosed as diabetic, my dog got cancer and slowly succumbed to it...my writer was pretty much blind and had to get major eye surgery and the colourist I really liked, his spouse had a recurrence of the big c. Everyone's fine now (I hope) but the reason you may not have heard of this project was because it was cursed... I nearly quit comics after this. I was done. Drank a lot. My heart wasn't into drawing. Joined up for dance classes. And as I was Poppin and locking I looked at myself in the mirror and said 'fuck are u doing asshhole?!'. R.I.P. TOM PALMER Tom Palmer will go down in comic book art history as not only one of its greatest INKERS of the 20th & 21st Centuries (with his only rival being Joe Sinnott), but also as one of its greatest ARTISTS, because more often than not his "inking" was "embellishing" (working over rough layouts or loose pencils), and he was a superb COLORIST as well, coloring many issues of his legendary runs inking Neal Adams, Gene Colan, and John Buscema. In fact, Palmer occupies a UNIQUE place in comic book art history because he was, without question, the SOULMATE inking partner of not just ONE, but THREE different pencil artists, the aforementioned Adams, Colan, and Buscema. Though Adams was his own best inker, only Palmer came closest to Adams' own fineline, crosshatched detail; Sinnott fans might argue that he was Buscema's greats inker of his superhero material (years of Thor & Fantastic Four), but I'll take Palmer's sublime runs with Buscema on The Avenegers in the '60s, '70s, and '80s; and Colan simply NEVER received as sympathetic and nuanced inking of his ethereal pencils from ANYONE other than Tom Palmer. PERIOD.
