While American audiences were

Monoshuji - Character Bio
“Don’t worry about me, all I want is youse kids to keep building your trust in one another!”
Name: Monoshuji
Age: ???
Species: Robot Bear
Creator: Team Danganronpa
Ultimate: SHSL Clown/SHSL Failure (Monokuma) SHSL Mascot (Self-Proclaimed)
Goal: To unite everyone and escape the killing game (Self-Proclaimed) To act as a clown character to excite audiences and keep Monokuma busy and engaged as a character/To comically die for Danganronpa (Pre-determined by Team Danganronpa)
“Upupu...Hyukie-yuck. What’re you doing wandering around? You kids are gonna give me a heart attack one of these days! Oh I just worry about you day and night!”
Monoshuji is a robot bear programmed to act as an incompetent side character to Monokuma’s primary main antagonist role. He is clumsy, slightly dim witted, and full of ambition, believing that one day he really will take over as the Danganronpa mascot. He tricks the students into thinking he has ‘defected from his programming’ and promotes friendship in order to turn them against Monokuma. He sets up mini games for the students to play, and continuously promises to lend an ear to their problems. Supposedly, he was supposed to use the information he got from the saddened students to use as motive for them to kill each other, and this is brought up during Monoshuji’s last trial by Monokuma. It it is believed that Monoshuji’s apparent fondness for the students really did prevent him from revealing their secrets.
“Oi fuckface! There’s no way my sweet, perfect, fine-asks Naozumi would ever kill anyone!”
Another instance of Monoshuji’s fake but not so fake defection is his romantic/sexual attraction to Naozumi Isobe, the Ultimate Make Up Artist/Ultimate Cult Leader. This first starts when Naozumi is assumed to be the Mastermind by Ren, pointing out their similar clothing. Naozumi defends them both, something Monoshuji seems grateful for. Since then he is seen flirting with and defending her, especially after her true Ultimate is revealled. He is often shown being carried in Naozumi’s arms. It is also revealed she was the one who confided in him the most. The two seemed to have some kind of strong but unknown relationship, and he even goes out of his way to comfort her just before he dies. Naozumi keeps his monocle as a momento, and promised to watch over Neo Tebo in his memory despite robots being deemed untrustworthy
“Pupupu, never had you guys pegged for crybabies! Smile! This place looks gloomy enough, not that you’ll be around here much longer, and that ain’t a threat!”
Monoshuji’s real motives are revealed in the trial of Taba Ikosane, the Ultimate Phantom of the Opera. After claiming he was plum confused over the killers motive, Monokuma responds with claiming that statement as a lie, as Monoshuji knows more about the students than anybody. After it was questioned how Monokuma would know this, Monoshuji reveals with pain that he was intending on using them to achieve his goal. When some of the students refuse to beleive this, Monokuma reveals Monoshuji’s entire origin story. Unable to face the disappointed students, Monoshuji shouts promises and claims of how much more fun a mascot he would be, and begs them, and the unknown audience to understand that he cannot go against his destiny, the destiny given to him by his programming. He then suddenly declares a battle against Monokuma to settle things once and for all, which the other bear seems to accept. It looks like for a moment they will fight one on one, but Monokuma tricks him and pulls out a giant cannon. Monoshuji ushures the other students out of the way and is shot through the chest despite Naozumi’s frantic screams for him to move. With his dying breath, he tells the crying students to cheer up and press on, and tells Naozumi that he is sorry, and that he didn’t want to see the person he expressed genuine love for cry so much
