Weather Woes in Colombo: Rain Threatens IND vs PAK Clash at Asia Cup 2023
In a turn of unfortunate events, heavy rain in Colombo played spoilsport during the highly-anticipated Super 4 match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at the Asia Cup 2023 on September 10. The game reached an intriguing point, with India scoring 147/2 in 24.1 overs before the players had to leave the Colombo field due to the relentless rain.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) allocated a reserve day exclusively for the India vs. Pakistan match, with the intention of resuming the game from where it left off on the first day. However, this decision faced criticism from several former cricketers and social media users, who accused the organizers of bias.
Unfortunately, the Colombo weather has not been favorable for cricket, as heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecasted for the evening of September 11. The conditions haven't improved since Sunday, with continuous showers throughout the night, creating a gloomy outlook. While there's no prediction of rain until 4 PM IST, there's uncertainty about the conditions afterward.
On the first day of the match, India had a strong start, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill forming an impressive opening partnership, amassing 121 runs, with both players scoring half-centuries at an impressive run rate. Pakistan's bowlers faced difficulty containing the Indian batsmen, particularly Shaheen Shah Afridi, who proved to be expensive in his initial spell.
However, Pakistan made a comeback by dismissing both openers in quick succession, offering some respite to their side. Just as the match was set for an exciting finish, rain intervened, leading to several inspections by the umpires, ultimately resulting in the game being forced into a reserve day.
With more rain predicted for the following day, the fate of the match remains uncertain. If it does resume, India might find themselves playing three consecutive days, including their Super 4 fixture against Sri Lanka scheduled for September 12.
The cricketing world watches anxiously, hoping for a resumption of the thrilling clash between these two cricketing giants.

So if I'm mayhaps perchance might be planning on a srilanka trip....... How do I proceed?
Where to even start?
I think the first and most important step is to figure out where you want to go and what you want to do.
Sri Lanka has SO much. If you like cold weather and lots of green, you should go to the central province. If you want to look at the beaches, then you go east or south (south is dominated by white tourists btw). If you love wild life, then you go to the rainforests and elephant orphanage and yala (the wild life forest). if you want to do shopping and do city things, you go to colombo.
It's a very small country so you can even do everything and visit all the places together too x

The 10 Essential Things to Know for a Wonderful Trip to Sri Lanka
Nestled in the heart of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka, the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean,” is a destination that will transport you to an era of serenity, color, and diversity. Sri Lanka is a beautiful island nation with a rich tapestry of culture, stunning landscapes, welcoming locals, and delicious cuisine that you must experience. This article offers a distilled compilation of essential tips and insights that will help make your Sri Lankan adventure a memory to cherish.
Visa and Health Requirements: The entrance to the island’s rich heritage begins with a visa. Sri Lanka encourages tourism by making the visa process efficient and accessible, with online Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) granting you entry for 30 days. For longer stays, a 180-day visa is available, and the price usually hovers around 35 Euros. These can be conveniently extended in Colombo’s immigration office.
Regarding health requirements, ensure you’re up-to-date on routine vaccines, including measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, varicella (chickenpox), polio, and flu shots. Also, consider travel insurance for emergency situations.
Weather and Season: Given its proximity to the Equator, Sri Lanka experiences a tropical monsoon climate. The southwest monsoon (May – September) brings rain to the western, southern, and central regions, while the northeast monsoon (October – January) primarily affects the north and east. Consequently, understanding these weather patterns helps you strategically plan your trip.
Data Packages: In the digital age, staying connected is crucial. Upon arrival, consider obtaining a local SIM card from providers like Mobitel or Dialog. With data packages as low as 1,299 LKR (roughly 6 Euros) for 30GB, these providers ensure reliable and affordable connectivity throughout your journey.
Currency: The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) is the nation’s currency, with cash transactions being the norm. While credit cards are accepted in major hotels and restaurants, many local shops, guest houses, and smaller restaurants prefer cash. Therefore, it’s recommended to keep a mixture of both.
Transportation: Sri Lanka’s transport is a colorful tapestry of experiences. The ubiquitous tuk-tuks, the bustling local buses, and the picturesque train journeys create the country’s unique transportation panorama. While tuk-tuks are perfect for short distances, trains offer unparalleled views, especially the scenic Kandy to Ella train journey.
Scooter Rental: For those seeking the freedom of exploring at their own pace, scooter rentals offer the perfect solution. With rental costs averaging around 2,000 LKR per day, you get an economical and flexible mode of transportation.
Pace of Life: The ethos of Sri Lanka rests in its leisurely pace. The laid-back rhythm is most noticeable in eateries, where meals are meticulously crafted from scratch. As you wait for your dish, take in the ambiance, converse with locals, and savour the anticipation of an authentic Sri Lankan meal.
Accommodation: The spectrum of accommodation in Sri Lanka ranges from budget-friendly hostels to luxurious resorts. Local guest houses offer an authentic experience, with a chance to enjoy home-cooked meals and local stories. Remember to book in advance during peak season (December to March) to avoid last-minute hassles.
Food: Sri Lankan cuisine is an amalgamation of flavors, with aromatic spices and fresh ingredients at its heart. Indulge in a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast with “hoppers” and “kottu,” or feast on a variety of local curries for dinner. For the dessert lovers, “watalapp an,” a steamed coconut custard, is a must-try.
Clothing: Given the tropical climate, lightweight, breathable clothing is recommended. Pack a raincoat for sudden showers and warm clothes if you plan to visit the cooler hill regions. For temple visits, respectful attire covering shoulders and knees is necessary.
Conclusion: Traveling is more than ticking off tourist spots; it’s about immersing yourself in the ethos of a new land. As you embark on your Sri Lankan expedition, you’re not just stepping into a country; you’re stepping into a treasure trove of culture, nature, and history. This guide, interwoven with practical information and cultural insights, is your stepping stone into the heart of Sri Lanka. Here’s wishing you a journey filled with awe-inspiring moments and enriching experiences!

Ind vs Pakistan 2023 Asia Cup Super 4
Cricket Journals
An account of Virat Kohli’s 77th century :
India vs Pakistan, what is it, it is an emotion attached to all the cricket supporters around the world, be it India, Pakistan, England, or Australia, it is cherished and remembered all over the world. And what does it feel like when your favorite player scores a century in that match, well it feels delighted, a moment to cherish, celebrate and to remember all your lifetime and let me tell you one interesting story of such kind of an event. It was 2023, an amazing year for all cricket fans in the world because we have the ODI World Cup, Asia Cup, WTC Final and many more series such as The Ashes, Ind vs South Africa and many more. But there is one more thing that is wanted by all cricket fans and we have it three times and who knows four times this year. The cherish able, always remembered, India vs Pakistan. Two times in the Asia cup and one time in the ODI World cup, we will witness this amazing rivalry even more this year. September 2023, and the awaited month has arrived. The Asia Cup kicked off with its initial matches. It was happening in Pakistan and Sri Lanka both as India refused to play because of political issues and many more issues which both country’s government crib about. On 2 September, we had the match in Colombo, meaning India vs Pakistan in Colombo. The match started, surprisingly according to the weather forecast, there was no signs of rain in the starting. But that match did not finish because till the finishing of India’s innings which was the first innings, there was rain, drama, and lots of sadness in every spectator’s mind because firstly India had not played well and secondly due to that rain match was abandoned and both teams shared one point each. Well, as I told there were two games so we had the fixture again on 10th September as part of the super four stage. There was rain, drama, and lots of delightfulness in this match because this match was completed and it also witnessed the run machine’s 77th century and he also completed 13,000 runs in ODI cricket. Do you know who I am referring to ?, yes Virat Kohli, my favorite player and the charm of every Indian spectator watching that game. He came in to play and replenishing all his mistakes that led to his dismissal in the last game, he smashed a well driven 122* of 94 deliveries with KL Rahul also scoring a century. They both stitched a 233-run partnership and stretched India’s score to 357 for just the loss of 2 wickets. It was an easy defend for India and dismissed the whole of Pakistan in just 128 runs and in the bowling unit, Kuldeep Yadav also took 5 wickets and bowled an excellent spell dismissing some of their key batters.
We all got the gift from Kohli, we all wanted and deserved. He played as a well accumulator and in the end accelerating to his hundred. It was a classic Kohli innings and a classic Indian win. As expected, Virat received the Man of the Match and that is all we could ask by him in the match of one of the most cherished rivalries of all time.

🌹 ― a romantic memory.
🙊 ― a memory you don’t ever talk about.
🍑 ― a sexual memory. [sal/polly]
🌼 ― a happy memory.
Brianna dashed into the room, causing Rhiannon to jolt. "He proposed!!!" The older Cohen shouted, frantically shoving the ring in her sister's face. Rhiannon jumped up, joining her sister in screaming and yelling from excitement. "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!" Rhiannon shouted over and over, hugging her sister tightly.
🧠 ― a memory that had a big impact on you.
"Sal!" A voice shouted from the distance. Raphael moved to his side, hand falling on the gun that the younger Colombo held. Sal simply stared at his father, who held a heartbroken stare in his eyes. Before Sal could pull the trigger, Raphael had stepped in. Salvatore's father took this chance and ran, leaving his son and nephew. "You can't kill him..." Raphael whispered, but it fell on deaf ears. Sal merely watched his father run, the last thing he ever saw of him was his back.
🌹 ― a romantic memory. [julian/brianna]
Brianna was asleep, only to be woken by a string of kisses left at her side. She hummed, her hand finding her husband's curls. Chills ran up her body as he kissed her hip and thigh. Soon, Julian came up and pressed a kiss to her lips. "It's 5 in the morning, what are you doing up?" Brianna asked, her voice grogy and still sleep ridden. Julian didn't answer her question, he simply kept kissing her face. "Happy birthday, mi amor." The man said finally, earning a small laugh from his now fully awake wife. "Hope you're ready, because I've got the whole day planned."
🌧 ― a sad memory.
Rhiannon was in her living room in Boston, when she heard a knock at the door. She looked at the time, she was not expecting anyone. Rhiannon cautiously went to the door, and was shocked to see her sister at the other end of it through the peep hole. "Bri! What are you doing here?" Rhiannon asked, eyes falling on the two suitcases her sister had next to her. "He cheated..." The older redhead whispered, Rhiannon gasped. The night was spent with Brianna venting and sobbing, while Rhiannon comforted her. Rhiannon was left with a hatred for Julian, because nobody had made her big sister cry.
🗝 ― a memory you never want to forget.
Serkan wandered around the city. The eighteen year old was beaten and bruised from yet another street fight. The engine of a motorcycle caught his attention, and his eyes fell on a man. He had seen him before, in the audience of the fight. He was older, maybe late 30's. "Some fight you put up there." The man stated, and Serkan had to fight the urge to tell him to fuck off. "Kid, you can't go anywhere like that." He stepped closer, Serkan stepped back. Frank put his hands up. "I'm not gonna hurt you." He extended a hand. "Promise.
🌹 ― a romantic memory. [kaya/serkan]
Serkan had Kaya behind him, with her hands wrapped around his midsection. He made sure to drive safer with his girlfriend being behind him. He was taking her to the beach, since it was the perfect weather for a beach date. They arrived there about twenty minutes later. They danced together, they ate, they kissed, they talked. It was nothing short of perfect, so much so that they decided to get into the water. Kaya thought it would be funny to splash water at Serkan, the biker did not find that amusing. He reciprocated the action, and they both ended up soaking wet.
🌹 ― a romantic memory.
Veronica stared at the man under her for a moment. They just had a rather...steamy and rough session. The vampire placed her hand on his cheek. "You did so good for me..." She kissed his forehead, than his nose and finally his lips. They were soft, slow kisses meant to comfort. "Do you need anything?" The vampire was ready to get him anything he needed. "Water..." Erik spoke in a tone that was barely above a whisper. Veronica could just melt from the puppy dog eyes he was giving her. Veronica gave him one last kiss, before getting him his water and running him a bath.
🙊 ― a memory you don’t ever talk about.
Brianna stood over the body of her latest target, pleased with her work. As she wanted to turn around, a small voice stopped her. "Dad?" It was a little girl's voice. Brianna felt her heart drop as her eyes fell on a young girl, looking at her with pure horror and sadness. Brianna wasted no time in jumping out the window, leaving the body to be found by the target's associates and his distraught daughter. That was a look that would haunt her for the rest of her life.
🍑 ― a sexual memory. [sal/polly]
Salvatore stared down at Polly in all her glory. Tied up and legs spread. Her wrists were tied against the bed frame, legs held apart by Sal's hands on her ankles. It was a picture he wanted to stare into for the rest of his life. His hand let go of her right leg, slowly making his way up to her panties. He grinned. "So wet and I barely touched you...." The man leaned down, his cock pressed up against her still clothed core. His lips were against her ear, hit breath hitting her. "My pretty girl, if it gets too rough, I want you to use the safe word, okay?" Salvatore didn't gag her specifically because of that reason. When Polly nodded eagerly, Sal couldn't help but grin. Salvatore then kissed her, and they both knew they were in for one hell of a night.

It Never Rains But It Pours Department:
Somehow things never happen the way you expect them to.
PHOTO FINISH © 2022 by Rick Hutchins
On the best of days, the dome of the Beta Telescope at Hammil_U, Farside, was very much the textbook definition of unkempt, as one might expect of a lab used primarily by three grad students in astronomy and their professor. But on one particular day in December (it will surprise no one to learn that it was the sixteenth), it bore all the signs of a hovel that had not been attended by any efforts at housekeeping for at least a lunar month; which, in fact, it hadn’t.
The sole occupant of the dome, Arthur Minehead, was as unconscious of the empty pizza boxes and old candy wrappers as he was of the rather spectacular view of the towering crater walls several miles distant outside the dome’s portholes. His attention was solely focused on the screen of his portable computer, which was currently connected to the telescope’s memory core.
So preoccupied was he that he did not realize that he had company until his visitor cleared his throat and tapped lightly on the bulkhead with his knuckles.
“Hey, Arthur,” said the visitor, rather apologetically. “Sorry to interrupt. Er... the door was open.”
Arthur looked up from his laptop, blinking rapidly, his attention returning from a distance of quite a few light years. “Charles,” he said. “No, that’s all right. Come in. I guess I haven’t seen you in a few weeks.”
“Yeah, I’ve been pretty busy.” Charles Colombo was, like Arthur, a graduate student in astronomy; but his stomping ground was the nearly identical dome of the Alpha Telescope, almost a kilometer to the other side of the observatory quad. “We’ve been making some... uh... good observations over at Alpha.”
“Same here,” said Arthur. His eyes flickered to his portable comp and he quickly dimmed the screen– which Charles did not fail to notice. “So what can I do for you?”
Charles shifted uncomfortably and scratched his head. “Doctor Gernsback mentioned that you guys have called a press conference for this afternoon.”
“That’s right. Sorry, but I can’t give anything away ahead of time. It’s very hush-hush.”
“No, that’s not why I’m here.” Charles trailed off into silence and succumbed to another bout of foot shuffling and head scratching.
“Well..?” prompted Arthur.
“The thing is,” said Charles slowly, “we’ve called a press conference also.”
Arthur was slightly taken aback. “Really? You’ve got a big announcement?”
“Yeah,” said Charles flatly. “It’s pretty major.”
“That is bad timing,” said Arthur. “Look, I can’t really tell you anything, but you probably want to reschedule. I can safely say– and no offense– that you’ll be completely overshadowed.”
“I don’t think so. Like I said, we’ve got something pretty major. Trust me on this: Whatever you’ve got, this is bigger.”
Arthur chuckled. “I seriously doubt it.”
The two men stared at each other for several moments.
“How about,” said Charles finally, “if we grab a bite to eat?”
The central arboretum was only ten minutes down the tunnel by electric cart. Arthur and Charles spent the trip making small talk– mostly about sports as the Moon has no weather to discuss– and then parked at the food court. They picked up a bucket of crispy wings and two side orders of fries at Plato’s Man, grabbed a couple of cans of JJ from a vending machine, and then rented a small alcove at Somerset’s– Victorian style, with red bricks and a holographic fireplace.
Charles closed the privacy curtain as Arthur spread lunch out on the dark wood table between the luxurious armchairs.
“So,” said Arthur, touching an unobtrusive switch on the mantel, which caused the holographic fire to spring to life, “what have you got?”
Charles sipped his beverage and said, “You first.”
Arthur laughed good naturedly as he took a bite out of a crispy wing. “Nice try. But you came to me, so it’s on you.”
“All right. I’ll tell you. But Professor Campbell will go supernova on me if he finds out.”
“Oh, don’t worry, I won’t say anything.”
Charles leaned forward and dropped his voice to a whisper. “We’ve been photographing an extraterrestrial space probe within the solar system.”
Arthur’s jaw literally dropped, nearly into his fries.
“What?! I mean... what?!”
“It’s true. We first spotted it about a month ago, while we were collecting data on the new Green Spot on Neptune.”
“Do you mean to sit there and tell me that aliens have sent a space probe to study the Earth?!”
Charles sighed and shook his head. “Unfortunately, no. It’s an artifact. A relic. We postulate that it’s the alien equivalent of a Voyager or Pioneer, something that just passed on into interstellar space when its mission was over.”
“Well, go on!”
“As you can imagine, we know very little as yet. It’s crossing through the solar system at about 28 kilometers per second and its closest approach will bring it just inside the orbit of Mars. It’s about the size of a bus and pockmarked down to our best resolution. If there were ever any markings, they’re long gone, although we have hopes that an electron microscope will be able to read something.”
“Well, it must have been out there for... for...”
“Hundreds of thousands of years,” nodded Charles. “The most interesting thing is that Catherine thinks she can see the terminus of eleven tiny struts– evidence of a solar sail long since worn down by atomic hydrogen and dust. We’ll have to wait to confirm that, of course. What we can see are seven perfectly recognizable radio dishes. These people seem to have liked odd numbers.”
“Where did it come from?” “Very probably Tau Sagittarii. If not, then from somewhere very far away indeed.”
“Have you... er... listened..?”
“As a matter of fact, Tau Sagittarii has been checked a couple of hundred times over the years. It was the closest possible source of the Wow Signal back in 1977. It’s always been completely silent.”
Arthur shook his head. “Then the civilization that launched it is probably extinct.”
“Possibly. Hundreds of thousands of years is a long time and we have no way of guessing the typical lifespan of a technological civilization. But they may have just moved on to some other form of communication. Or they may simply have no interest in communicating with us. Or it may just not be possible for us to detect signs of civilization at that distance.”
“Oh, I think it’s possible,” said Arthur quietly. “Will we be able to recover the probe?”
“Certainly! We’ve calculated its path to the hundredth decimal place for the next several millennia. But there’s no reason to think we can’t customize a robo-probe and have it out there within a year.”
“This is uncanny!”
“So you see what I mean then?”
“About what?”
“The press conference. Obviously, you’ll want to cancel yours. Otherwise, whatever your announcement is will be lost in the rocket wash of the greatest discovery in history.”
Arthur stared at him a moment and took a deep breath. “Actually, Charles, I think we’ll go ahead with it.”
“You’re not serious.”
“I am.” This time it was Arthur’s turn to lean forward and lower his voice to a dramatic whisper. “You see, we’ve also been observing an alien artifact.”
“What?!
“We spotted it last month during the Deep Sky Halo Object Survey.”
“But... but...” stammered Charles. “That’s just... just....”
“Uncanny. I know.”
“But this is too much. We can’t both have found extraterrestrial probes inside the solar system at the same time!”
Arthur shook his head. “No. No, this isn’t a probe. And it’s nowhere near the solar system.”
“Then what in heaven’s name is it?”
“It’s... it’s architecture.” He spread his hands as if at a loss for words. “I guess you could call it a work of celestial engineering.” He swallowed hard and when he spoke again his voice quivered with awe. “It’s a Klemperer Rosette, Charles. A Klemperer Rosette of six main sequence G-Type stars.”
A wave of dizziness hit Charles and he had to grip the arm of his chair to keep from falling over– it was several moments before he was sure that he wasn’t going to faint, and several more before he could speak.
“We’ve always theorized about the possibility of... but to actually know that it... you’re very sure?”
“Oh, there’s no doubt. No doubt at all. Each star is of precisely the same size, within two percent of the sun. Their spectra are identical. They’re spaced equidistantly at thirty-eight AU. There’s no way such a thing could happen in nature.”
“What’s holding it together? A black hole?”
“Presumably. But if there is, it’s a perfect naked singularity. There’s no sign of an accretion disk. No radiation at all. And we’ve calculated that each one of those stars has stable orbits in its habitable zone. And you can bet there are planets there– you can bet on that!”
Charles sat back in his chair and put his hand over his trembling stomach; he was sorry now that he had eaten. “So we’ve discovered one civilization that seems to have expired in its youth and another that has gone on to rearrange the very stars in the sky.”
“What a day, huh?”
“I think,” said Charles, “that we need to hold that press conference together.”
“Agreed,” Arthur replied. He reached out and the two men shook hands, with sweaty palms. “We’re going to go down in history, you know.”
“Gernsback and Campbell will go down in history. We’re grad students. We’ll be footnotes.”
“True,” shrugged Arthur.
They gathered up the remains of the food and other trash and dumped it in the waste slot beside the fireplace. Exiting the alcove, they walked back to the electric cart and drove down the tunnel back to the observatory in silence, each preoccupied with his own thoughts, until Arthur finally spoke.
“Mine is the more impressive discovery, of course.”
“But mine can actually be retrieved and studied,” countered Charles without hesitation.
And so it went until the joint press conference late that afternoon, when they and their colleagues, in a most gracious and collegial manner, announced to the world that the question which had most vexed humanity for centuries had finally been answered– twice in one day.

For the first non-infodump, Mystic in all of her glory presents the name origins of everyone in the cast of TCoTC.
Sprinkle - Named after how snowflakes remind Mystic of sprinkles and how her body shape could be the shape of one.
Stormee - Weather-related name. Also, Mystic's dead cat Storm was nicknamed Stormy so the name is also a homage to him.
Rango - A name that sounds like it could be a shortening of boomerang, the thing his head is vaguely based on.
Pixie - Generic fairy name. Not much to add. Next.
Minyako - Miyako + nyā (or simply nya in this case), the Japanese onomatopoeia for a cat's meow.
Tama - Shortening of Tamagotchi, the thing he's based on.
Colomby - Colombo + Marny (even if it's simply the y), the two Katamari cousins names that Colomby was originally a fusion of.
Soulternal - Soul combined with eternal. Originally named Soulter but the name hardly lasted at all before it was changed.
Neo - Neon without the extra n to help make him easier to search.
Poppet - A poppet is a doll made to represent a person, to cast spells on that person, or to aid that person through magic. This matches with Poppet's in-universe lore with her once being a voodoo doll.
Diston - The only character whose name Mystic didn't come with, that goes to a former friend who pulled it out of his ass. Originally named Oakihs which leads to a mess Mystic won't speak of here.
Myshell - Mystic's had conflicting ideas on where the name came from. But for the post, she'll chalk it up to it being a corruption of Michelle, seeing as their name is meant to be pronounced as such.
Also, Mystic used the glowless version of this account's banner art because she didn't want to make a doodle related to this rabbit hole.
why'd you choose your oc's name?

Sights of Sri Lanka
In couple of weeks we were in Sri Lanka, we did cover most of the touristy spots in South coast of Sri Lanka. Right from the fort town Galle to some remote beaches in and around Tangalle and bird watching lagoons, we did it all.
The weather remained pleasant through out our trip except for the first day when we drove from Colombo to Tangalle. That day it poured bonkers , we were quite lucky we were on the Expressway.
Some of the old temples of Srilanka :
While we were in Haputale, we took an adventurous Tuk Tuk ride to go all the way to the top of the tea estates region and visited Lipton's Seat. The whole area is stunning with tea plantations as far as your eyes can see.

Unit 5 Blog Post
I was born and raised in Canada however my parents originate from Sri Lanka also referred to as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. I had taken a trip back in 2018 and was truly fascinated by how beautiful and unique the sceneries were with various ecosystems making it home for many wildlife. I often think about the sunsets and beaches I enjoyed the most in Sri Lanka because it brings back great memories. I vividly remember the water splashing down on my legs and the sun beaming down contrasting the cold water with warmth.
(Galle Face Beach, Colombo)
I also loved going to the Central Highlands which are full of Tea Plantations. Although Sri Lanka is a generally warmer country, Nuwara Eliya (Town of Central Highlands) was colder and the morning mist made it beautiful tea weather which I thought was perfect. I also went on tours around this tea plantation where many workers plucked these vibrant green tea leaves by hand and it went through a processing plant, where it was served to us fresh. I also loved the hills because amidst the cloudy weather, the most vibrant green hills would stand out and it has truly become something that is engraved in my memory.
(Nuwara Eliya)
Hikkaduwa is truly one of the most beautiful places to visit if you love a tropical region. It has the clearest and most vibrant skies, palm trees lining beaches and the clearest water you might ever see. I remember going on a boat ride where we stopped briefly and we were allowed to put our hands under the water and I remember fish just popping up near the surface and quickly disappearing again. You could also go snorkelling ( I was albeit a bit too young for that) and view the most vibrant coral reefs. It was truly something out of a movie with how many various reefs exist with so many different shapes and colours. Now I will say this is my father’s perspective but I will take his word for it!
(Hikkaduwa Beach)
(Hikkaduwa Coral Reefs)
I also got to visit National Parks but the most vivid one I remember is the Udawalawe National Park (Yes I did have to search up the name!), which is a sanctuary for elephants. It was very fun getting to visit Elephants (from a distance) while they walked around the park. I preferred this a lot more than going to a zoo because a sanctuary protects endangered species and gives them the freedom to go around while we stay at a safe distance as opposed to caging animals in very confined spaces.
(Udawalawe National Park)
I regret not visiting Sigiriya while in Sri Lanka because it is a cultural heritage site of Sri Lanka and it showcases the remains of a once ancient city. If you were looking for a country where you can experience different weathers and landscapes I will always recommend Sri Lanka because it is truly a testament to the beauty of nature and there is always an adventure you can experience while you are there!
(Sigiriya)

FAQs
Before my trip, how early should I apply for my Sri Lanka visa?
Applying for your Sri Lanka ETA at least one week before your trip makes sense. This guarantees you're completely prepared before you go and allows you ample time to clear any unplanned processing delays.
2. For Americans, what are the entrance criteria at Sri Lanka's airport?
Arriving U.S. nationals will have to provide a valid passport, the allowed ETA, and documentation of further travel—such as a return ticket. Having your lodging information accessible is also a smart idea as immigration officials could request it.
3. Should one be visiting Sri Lanka alone, is it safe?
Indeed, for single visitors including women, Sri Lanka is usually regarded as secure. Like elsewhere, however, you should keep your belongings safe, avoid lonely locations at night, and remain mindful of your surroundings.
4. A two-week journey to Sri Lanka calls for what budget?
Your travel style will affect your budget; nevertheless, a mid-range budget can call for between $50 and $100 daily. This would cover food, lodging, transportation, and some entertainment. Your expenses will be higher if you want to conduct extensive planned trips or stay in opulent resorts.
5. As I engage with Sri Lankans, what local traditions should I be mindful of?
Usually, Sri Lankans are very kind and accommodating. Using your right hand—for handshakes or gift-giving—is courteous when meeting someone. Dress modestly, particularly for visits to holy locations, and take careful not to express public shows of wrath or loud voice.
6. Should one visit Sri Lanka, are any immunisations advised?
Although no immunisations are necessary, it is advised to be current on standard vaccines like tetanus and hepatitis A. Particularly if you are staying in remote locations or for a longer length of time, you should also take typhoid and hepatitis B immunisations under consideration.

Sri Lanka is a land of rich history, stunning landscapes, and diverse culture. Among its many hidden treasures is Delft Island in Sri Lanka, a small yet captivating island located off the northern coast. Known for its historical landmarks, pristine beaches, and unique local cuisine, Delft Island offers an unforgettable experience for travelers seeking to explore the lesser-known parts of Sri Lanka. In Addition to this, there are a lot of the best places to visit in Sri Lanka to have next-level fun & adventure!
A Glimpse into History
Delft Island, also known as Neduntheevu, is steeped in history that dates back to ancient times. The island was named by the Dutch during their colonial period, and remnants of this era are still visible today. One of the most notable historical landmarks is the Old Dutch Fort, built in the 17th century. This fort, though in ruins, offers a fascinating glimpse into the island’s colonial past with its coral and limestone walls.
Another historical site worth visiting is the ancient Baobab tree. Planted by Arab traders over 1,000 years ago, this tree is an impressive sight with its massive trunk and sprawling branches. It stands as a testament to the island’s long-standing connections with traders and explorers from different parts of the world.
Pristine Beaches and Natural Beauty
Delft Island is home to some of the most beautiful and untouched beaches in Sri Lanka. The island’s coastline is dotted with white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, providing the perfect setting for relaxation and recreation. Visitors can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing in this serene environment, far from the crowded tourist spots on the mainland.
The island’s unique coral formations and shallow waters make it an excellent location for snorkeling. The vibrant marine life and colorful coral reefs offer an underwater paradise for nature enthusiasts. Additionally, the calm and shallow waters are ideal for families with children, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
Local Cuisine and Culture
A visit to Delft Island is incomplete without sampling its local cuisine. The island’s culinary offerings are a delightful blend of traditional Sri Lankan flavors and unique local ingredients. Fresh seafood is a staple here, with dishes like crab curry, fish ambul thiyal (sour fish curry), and prawn fry being among the favorites. The use of fresh coconut, aromatic spices, and herbs adds a distinct flavor to the island’s dishes, making every meal a memorable experience.
The island’s culture is equally fascinating. The local community is predominantly Tamil, and their customs, traditions, and festivals provide an enriching cultural experience. Visitors can witness traditional dance performances, participate in local festivals, and explore the island’s vibrant handicrafts and textiles.
The Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Delft Island is during the dry season, from May to September. During this period, the weather is pleasant, and the sea conditions are ideal for water activities. The island can be reached by a ferry ride from the town of Jaffna, which operates regularly and offers a scenic journey across the Palk Strait.
How to Get There
Getting to Delft Island involves a bit of planning, but the journey is well worth the effort. The nearest major town is Jaffna, which is accessible by train, bus, or domestic flight from Colombo. From Jaffna, travelers can take a ferry from Kurikadduwan jetty, which is about an hour’s drive from the town. The ferry ride itself takes around an hour and provides stunning views of the surrounding waters and distant islands.
Tips for Travelers
Prepare for Limited Facilities: Delft Island is relatively remote and undeveloped, so travelers should be prepared for limited facilities and basic amenities. It is advisable to carry essential supplies, such as water, snacks, and any necessary medications.
Respect Local Customs: As with any travel destination, it is important to respect local customs and traditions. Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites, and be mindful of the local culture.
Stay Connected: While the island does have some mobile network coverage, it can be patchy in certain areas. Inform someone of your travel plans and expected return time for safety.
Enjoy the Simplicity: The charm of Delft Island lies in its simplicity and tranquility. Embrace the slower pace of life, disconnect from the hustle and bustle, and enjoy the natural beauty and historical richness of the island.
Conclusion
Delft Island is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and cultural richness. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Delft Island promises an unforgettable experience.
