Rejection
Due to this whole page being for rants and tips and such, I wanted to share my most recent experience with college. For four years I have had my heart set on Vanderbilt University, I had dreamt of going there, getting my double major, and a minor. I made up what my roommate like be like, if she would be short or tall, if she would be a honey blonde or have a blue pixie cut. I had psyched myself up for four years over this one school. While I knew it wouldn’t be certain, I had been told by teachers and by friends that I had a decent chance 60-75% of making the cut. Today, I found out that I will not be going to Vanderbilt. I was and still am heartbroken and I’m still in shock of the fact I didn’t make it. I’m going over every sentence in my essay to figure out where it all went wrong. I’m beating myself over my SAT scores. I’m trying to find what in my application was my weakness, why was I rejected. However, as much as it kills me I didn’t make it. I have to look on the bright side. I’m being offered scholarships from other schools on my list. My worst case is some people’s best case. I know with almost 100% certainty I’m getting into 2 of my 4 colleges. As disappointed as I am, I have to remember that no matter what I’m still going to go to a four-year, I’m still going to become a teacher, and I’m still going to change the world one student at a time. For everyone who is applying to colleges and facing rejection from them, please remember I’m really proud of you no matter what happens and that you just haven’t found the perfect place for you yet.

Deferred? Don't worry. Not all is lost. A letter of continued interest is all you need.
A letter of continued interest is a letter that a student writes to a college to express their continued interest in attending the college, even if they have not yet been accepted. Here are some tips for writing a letter of continued interest to a college:
👉🏻Start by briefly introducing yourself and explain why you are writing the letter. Be sure to mention the college by name and mention the program or major that you are interested in.
👉🏻In the next paragraph, explain why you are still interested in attending the college.
👉🏻Highlight your achievements, extracurricular activities, and any other experiences that make you a strong candidate for the college.
👉🏻Next, provide any updates or new information that may be relevant to your application. For example, if you have received any new awards or accomplishments, or if you have any new test scores or grades, be sure to mention them.
👉🏻In the final paragraph, thank the admissions office for considering your application and express your continued interest in attending the college. Be sure to include your contact information and let them know that you are available to answer any questions they may have.
👉🏻Proofread your letter carefully to ensure that it is free of errors and that it is well-written and professional. A letter of continued interest is an important part of your college application, so it is important to make a good impression.
Overall, a letter of continued interest is a way to remind the college that you are still interested in attending and to provide any new information that may be relevant to your application. By following these tips, you can write a strong letter of continued interest that will help you stand out from the other applicants.

Thoughts
This whole applying to colleges thing is dumb. You spend days perfecting your essay(s). You finally have it perfect and then you spend a few hours applying. Then you anxiously wait. And you finally get a decision. A decision that could mean you're life path. Say your number 1 school, doesn't accept you, you feel worthless and like the highest failure on the planet. All because you didn't make it into your dream school. Say you get accepted, yay! Then you have bragging rights, that some people use and some people don't. Lose friends because of it. What if you didn't have to apply? There was just an option for the first 150,000 that signed up got in as long it was their top school? That would cause the schools to earn more money. Which is what they care about.

I have the following scenarios playing in my head at every hour.
Potential outcome #1: I open my mailbox. There's a letter from swarthmore. I rip open the letter right there. I scream as loud as I can and they hear me throughout the neighborhood. I fucking accepted. Congratulations! I would like to welcome you to the class of 2017. I run back home, show everyone. My dad does his weird jump skip thing and my mom tears up. My sister smiles because everyone else is happy.
Potential outcome #2: the envelope is suspiciously thin. I fiddle with it between my fingers and walk around the culdesac a few times. This letter is too thin. I go back inside frowning heavily. We open it together and I have been denied. It's okay, you'll apply to a lot more schools. my dad will say. My mom looks at me pitifully. I go upstairs, and turn on the shower. I stay in there for an hour, pondering what to do next. I cry. I can't even take my mind off of it by mastrbating because I'm too fucking sad to be watching a porno right now. Fuck fuck fuck fuck will be running through my head.
