In this glasshouse the tender, evergreen perennial Solenostemon scutellarioides (coleus, painted nettle) creates a colourful pool of orange foliage. This plant has semi-succulent, square stems which will root easily from softwood cuttings which allows a huge range of cultivars to persist. The small, spikes of blue flowers are usually removed to encourage foliage development.

Kong Lime Sprite
Kong Lime Sprite (Solenostemon scutellarioides) sprawling in a shady part of the Flower Field in the conservatory. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
This sturdy menthol plant grows large, bright lime green leaves with a quilted texture and pronounced veins but inconspicuous flowers.
This was taken with a 2011 Fujifilm bridge camera which produced greens and yellows that were just right for the leaves of this coleus. Reds had need to be saturated a bit in post though.
