We (@theritareads, @cats.tea.and.books, @ceallaighsbooks, and @treesofreverie) are so excited to officially launch the #QueerPalestineReadathon. The goal of this readathon is to uplift and celebrate books by and about queer Palestinians and raise funds for families trying to temporarily evacuate Gaza.
If you’d like to participate, you can choose a family to sponsor through organizations like @operationolivebranch, @fundsforgaza, or @coffeesforgaza or amplify a family who has reached out to you. Then, make videos/posts about books you plan to read for the readathon, your personal fundraiser to the family, & highlight the family or families you are fundraising for. Finally, post updates throughout the readathon & don’t forget to post a wrap up with the books you’ve read & donations pledged.
Not in a position to donate? No problem! You can also participate by • Reading books by and about queer Palestinians and amplify these stories • Amplifying others fundraising efforts • Spreading the word about the readathon • Amplifying other organizations supporting Palestinians • Staying up to date on what’s happening in Palestine and amplify the stories from folks on the ground Every post you engage with, repost, share, or boost matters!
For links to fun graphics you can use, book recommendations, a sign up survey, and other resources, see HERE!
We also have a link to a Storygraph challenge featuring Nadia Shammas and Natashah Alterici’s 6-page online comic No Olive Branch for Me. For those with extra busy schedules, this is a great way to participate!

Coffees for Gaza 🍉
Coffees for Gaza is an effort spearheaded by artists, including kidlit illustrators, seeking to support families in Gaza. You can follow them on Instagram at @ CoffeesForGaza -- and over the summer, they started a Patreon as well, where you can subscribe to donate monthly. From their Patreon:
"Can you skip a coffee to save a family? Coffees for Gaza is an initiative aimed at collecting mass small donations to help families in Gaza to evacuate, rebuild or afford basic necessities. With infrastructure destroyed and prices skyrocketing, most families in the strip find themselves without any source of income and desperately need help and support to continue their lives with dignity. Coffees for Gaza asks you to give up one weekly coffee and donate the cost instead to support a family in Gaza. Here, you can subscribe to donate those coffees in a monthly chunk which will be distributed equally to that month's families, in exchange for rewards including digital workshops, image downloads and limited edition stickers by our talented team of artists."
Book friends, highly recommend checking them out, as well as @ storysunbirds on Instagram, a collective of authors and illustrators in publishing standing up for Palestinian children.
(And friends in the USA: call your reps for an arms embargo now!)

Skip a coffee to save a family in Gaza!🍉
@coffeesforgaza is an initiative that consists on skipping on buying a cup of coffee and donating the money you would have used to a palestinian family in need 🇵🇸
Each week focuses on a different family and this week it’s mohammed’s and reham’s! here's the link to their fundraiser! 🇵🇸
*cup design is inspired by tradional salvadoran cups found in artisan alleys*

You could share posts, you could donate 1 dollar, you could take a few hours to personally dm everyone in your address book and ask them to donate , you could ask everyone in your address book to ask just one infuencer they know to share a gfm, you could do a bake sale , you could host a car boot sale, you could run an auction, you could throw a rave, you could host a community night, you could run a coffeesforgaza like initiative online, you could donate art to palestine art raffles, you could donate coding skills to gazafunds, , you could donate admin and marketing skills to other peoples fundraising iniatives such as other people's community events, you could do literally anything you put your mind to.
Some of these examples are things people , especially Palestinisns, are already doing. If a person watching their people be subject to unbelievable levels of violence can organise, so can you.
The rest of these ideas are just random ideas I came up with now. The point is that everyone has skills and networks they can leverage even if they don't have money. And everyone should be using that leverage . Everyone should be putting time aside to map what they can do, and then do it.
Imagine if every non Palestinian who feels "bad" about seeing the news from Gaza ran just one community fundraiser that raised a few hundred pounds / dollars. The gfms would be met in no time.
Act !
the fuck you want me to do about it. I hardly have enough money to live myself if i donated to every fucking gofundme on my dash without tagging i'd be broke but if i didnt tag it i'd be stewing in my own fucking misery. I am one fucking person i can't stop a genocide, so pardon fucking me for wanting to use a website for something other than staring into misery all day.
You are genuinely so self-centered (& borderline cruel) for thinking it’s appropriate to send this ask about gofundmes of people DYING at the hand of GENOCIDE. I can’t believe it’s been 7 months of this & bitches like you still pull the “I don’t want to be miserable reading about all these people being genocided” card. Again—and this has been said so many times—you are not entitled to sending vitriol. You are not the one suffering. You get to shut up and keep it moving, nothing else.
Most people can afford to donate 5 dollars daily without hurting over it. That’s what that post was directed at. If you truly are living down to the dollar, that’s fine—but keep it to yourself. If it doesn’t apply, let it fly. I’ll never understand what people like you try to accomplish by getting mad at a stranger over the internet for trying to incentivize people into doing more about a genocide.
Please grow up and realize the world does not revolve around you. This is the definition of pathetic.
#im running this auction#with no money and no online reach#and its going well!#i used my admin skills access to internet communication skills marketing skills and canva skills to set it up#and its raised 1000 already#and that was just me#im not an expert#everyone can do something like this !#on the other hsnd peoples apathy when its come to the auction has been so aggravating#close friends as well as influencers who post about Palestine online#dont be like those losers#act !#and acting actually takes effort!#ive been doing the gfm and auction in my spare time and yes its stressful and exhausting#but so what#you need to fucking act#im grateful to the Palestinian bloggers and journalists for tirelessly publicising the genocide#to give us the opportunity to act#palestine#blog
