Finding a new job at 50?

Hi all,

The company my dad works in closed down due to bankruptcy last September and it was a shocking but inevitable situation. Ever since, my dad has been applying for jobs, mainly online, but to no avail. This isn't surprising as we know his age is the biggest obstacle.

He extensively worked in public relations (visas, permits, licenses, renewals..etc.) and there are many vacancies for that but obviously they're geared for younger people with much lower salaries. He doesn't even get a single response.

I just wanted some honest insight - is it completely and utterly hopeless and impossible for him to find an office job again in the UAE, at his age? Is online applying useless? Perhaps contacts would be more helpful? or should he just leave the country for good?

I'm really lost and desperate to help him. We're not in a position to open our own business at the moment so there's no alternative right now. Plus, you all know how costly it is to live here, especially if there's no stable source of income.
