okayy so for my request 👉🏽👈🏽

okay i love you!! 🥺🥺 thank you for doing this!
14: “You’re so cute when you’re mad.” 24: “Would you mind if I kissed you?” Character: Bakugou
ok so like...i may or may not have gone slightly overboard and turned this into a whole fic-
it’s like 2.2k words lakdjfhasjkdh enjoy-
thank u for requesting aves 🥺
“What? A party? I’m not fucking going.” Bakugou snarled. “Staying up past midnight is overrated. I need my sleep.”
“But Bakubro,” Kaminari whined. “We’re hosting! Mina planned it all, and she spent a lot of time doing it! You should at least go. You don’t have to stay up that late.”
“Tch. As if I care.” Bakugou shoved his hands in his pockets and slumped forward even more. “Pinky can waste all the time she fucking wants to. I’m not going.”
“It’s our last year at UA! Come on,” Kirishima joined in. “You can leave early if you want to! It’ll be mostly in the dorms anyways. Mina did plan a scavenger hunt though, in Gym Gamma. She says that she planted “mementos” of our school experience. Isn’t that fun?”
“Fun my ass. It’s stupid, is what it is.” He glared at Kirishima. “Should’ve visited my parents. Even the old hag isn’t as loud as all of you extras in the dorms.”
“You say that like you didn’t blast a hole in the wall just last week,” Kaminari pointed out.
Kirishima winced. “Denki-”
“WELL WHOSE FUCKING IDEA WAS IT TO PRETEND THAT THEY WERE FUCKING KIDNAPPED?!?” Bakugou waved a fist wildly in Kaminari’s face.
“Fair point, fair point. You should’ve seen the look on your face though! (Y/N) thought you’d murder her!” Kaminari cackled.
“I’D NEVER FUCKING MURDER HER! ARE YOU INSANE??” Bakugou’s palms started crackling.
“Hey, chill bro, we know that.” Kirishima tried to calm him down.
Kaminari was not so lucky. “Why? You joke about murdering us all the time. What’s so different about her?”
Bakugou turned, a quick retort on the tip of his tongue, before he realized that Kaminari was, actually, right for once.
“She’s…she’s…” He stuttered.
Kaminari let out a hoot of laughter. “I knew it!”
“Shut the fuck up!” Bakugou’s face turned beet red. “You don’t know what you’re talking about!”
“Suit yourself. We know the truth.” Kaminari patted Bakugou’s shoulder.
“Oh yeah, Bakubro! (Y/L/N)-chan is going to be at the party too! Why don’t you confess to her there? That would be fun! And then Mina will forgive you for leaving early too!”
Bakugou’s left eye twitched. “There’s nothing to confess, Shitty Hair. And I don’t give a rat’s ass what Mina thinks.”
Kirishima and Kaminari looked at each other, then turned back to Bakugou.
“Sure,” Kirishima smirked. “Nothing at all.”
“Hey! (Y/N)!” Mina ran up to you. “You’re coming to the party, right?”
You turned to face her. “Sure am! Who isn’t? It’s in the dorms anyways so there’s not much of a point in not coming, right?”
Mina sighed. “Kiri and Kami are having a hard time convincing Bakugou to come. Something about his sleep schedule?”
You were a little disappointed, but it was to be expected. Bakugou didn’t participate much in team-building activities anyways. “Can’t relate. My sleep schedule has been fucked to high heaven.”
“Right? What a crappy excuse.” Mina rolled her eyes. “Anyways, Sero’s waiting for me in the gym to help set the scavenger hunt up. See ya later, yeah?”
“Sure! Do you want more help? I can help you guys set things up if you’d like,” you asked.
Mina leaned forward, smiling mischievously. “Nope! It’s all good! And besides, I want you to participate in the game, so you can’t help!”
You smiled. “Ah, okay. Well, I’ll see you later then!”
“See ya!” Mina winked and gave you a little wave.
“So, the rules of the game are simple: whichever team finds and touches our very own 3-A New Year’s Ball, together, wins!” Mina exclaimed from her place on the couch.
“What kind of shitty game is this?” Bakugou growled, leaning against the kitchen counter.
Mina pouted. “Hey! Sero and I spent a lot of time making this happen!”
“Yeah! They were amazing!” Ochaco jumped up too. “Stop being ungrateful!”
“Fine, whatever.” Bakugou crossed his arms. “Get on with it already. We don’t have all night.”
“Actually, we do! Not everyone here has the sleeping schedule of an old man,” Kaminari piped in.
“Shut up, Dunce Face. Nobody asked.” Bakugou scowled.
“Hey! Back to the regular program. You get to choose your own partners! Isn’t that exciting?” Mina waved her piece of paper around wildly. “Now get to it! You have three minutes!”
You looked around the room. You would’ve asked Mina, but she and Sero weren’t participating since they were the ones who hid it. They had also apparently hidden clues all over Gym Gamma as to where the location of the ball was.
“Ocha-” Oops. She’d already teamed up with Iida.
“Oi, Shitty Hair, come over here!” Bakugou yelled across the room. You sighed. Of course.
“Sorry Bakubro, I already have a partner…” Kirishima said rather sheepishly.
“…you WHAT?”
“Yeah…Momo here didn’t have a partner yet and…well…Mineta was hot on her trail,” Kirishima tried to explain as Momo breathed a sigh of relief.
“Shuckers!” Mineta faceplanted onto the couch. “I never get what I want”
“Hmph. Karma’s a bitch.” Jiro smirked from her position next to Kaminari.
“Dunce Face, you got a partner too?” Bakugou sighed, exasperated.
“Right next to me!” Kaminari pointed to Jiro with his thumb. You smiled in satisfaction. They were honestly adorable.
You turned to the rest of the room. Hagakure had already snagged Ojiro, Midoriya had, unsurprisingly, paired with Todoroki. Shoji and…Tsu? Koda had paired up with Sato, and…you snickered a little at the last pairing. Tokoyami had been bombarded with Aoyama’s relentless chatter. Which left…you and Bakugou.
Huh. That was weird. You swore that not everyone had a partner just a minute ago. And it was awfully strange that Tokoyami would choose to pair with Aoyama instead of you or even Bakugou, but…you supposed that he didn’t really have a choice in the matter.
“So. (Y/N).” Bakugou cleared his throat. “Partners?”
“Uh…yeah,” you replied, fidgeting slightly with your hands.
“Ok! Everyone is paired up and ready to go?” Mina was practically bouncing.
“Yeah!” Most everyone chimed in unison.
“Let’s do it then! Sero, come on! Lead the way!” She jumped down from her place on the kitchen counter.
“What the fuck? Pinky and Tape Arms hung that thing all the way up there?” Bakugou swore.
“You can use your quirk to get up there though, right?” You looked at him, brows furrowed.
“Duh. But what about you?” He looked you up and down. “Last time I checked, you couldn’t fly.”
“Easy! I’ll just ride on your back!” You chirped. “Unless you can’t carry me?”
“Tch. As if. Get on.” He squatted down, letting you scamper onto his back. “Ready?” You wrapped your arms around his neck and your legs around his waist.
You leaned into the crook of his neck, breath lightly fanning his face. “Ready,” you confirmed.
Cackling gleefully, Bakugou shot up into the sky, palms ablaze.
And as quickly as he flew, he was dropping to the ground even quicker.
“DAMMIT!” He glared daggers at the ice wall that had appeared over your heads. “Fucking Deku! And that IcyHot bastard!”
Spiraling, he tried his best to save the two of you from a hard impact on the ground, but he was only successful in twirling around in the air like a ballerina.
“Shit!” He tried to flip upside down in order to land on his feet, but the momentum was against him.
With an “oof”, the two of you landed in a pile on the (luckily) snow-covered ground.
“You alright there, idiot?” Bakugou said gruffly.
You groaned. You weren’t sure how, but you definitely sprained something with the way you landed. Ankle? Wrist? Perhaps both?
“Hey. Hey!” Bakugou climbed over the snowdrift to reach you. “Get up! The fuck is wrong with you?”
“Calm down, Bakugou! You pushed his hand away. “It’s just a sprain,” you pointed to your ankle.
“Nothing else?” He seemed intent on picking you up, so you let him.
“Nope, everything’s fine,” you assured him.
“Sorry about that!” Midoriya called out from atop his perch on Todoroki’s newly-formed glacier. “We got a little carried away!”
Bakugou stilled. You winced. Midoriya was in for a rough time.
“Deku…” He ground out. “What the FUCK do you think you and IcyHot are doing?”
“I-I’m sorry! We didn’t mean to knock you down from the air!” Midoriya started gesturing nervously. “I-I swear it was an a-accident!”
Todoroki sighed. “It was an accident. Let it go, Bakugou. And (Y/N), we are very sorry for having injured you. Would you like for us to accompany you to Recovery Girl? The game is over now.”
“The fuck did you say, IcyHot? No fucking way. I’m taking her.” He stomped towards Recovery Girl’s office, you firmly nestled in his arms.
“Think we succeeded?” Todoroki turned to Midoriya. “They seem to be getting along fine.”
“I…I’m not sure. It’s not great that (Y/L/N)-chan had to get injured for this to work, but…Recovery Girl will fix her up fine and Kacchan might finally realize that he has feelings for her…”
“Hey guys! Great job!” Sero dangled Mina from a tree branch overhead. “Look at them go!”
“It’s all according to plan…” Mina clapped her hands together. “Now, we just have to wait for the clock to chime twelve…”
“Fucking assholes.” Bakugou hadn’t stopped muttering underneath his breath since you’d left.
You giggled. He was so angry over such a small thing. It wasn’t like the fall was intentional; you’d both just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Bakugou stopped walking and stared at you. “What?” He frowned at you. “Why are you laughing? Did you knock your fucking head on the way down too?”
You started full-on laughing this time. “No, Bakugou. It’s just…you’re so cute when you’re mad,” you tried to explain. “Your eyebrows scrunch up and you purse your lips and…”
By this point, Bakugou was a blushing mess. No one had ever called him “cute” when he was angry before.
After a while, he broke the silence. “So…I don’t scare you?”
You laid your head on his chest. “Not at all.”
“Tch. You should be scared of me, dumbass.” He turned your body so that you were facing him, shielding his tomato-hued face from your gaze.
“And why should I be?”
“Because…because…I’m Bakugou Katsuki, dammit!” He clenched his fists, bunching up your parka.
Snickering, you decided to tease him. “Thank you, Captain Obvious. I thought you were Midoriya Izuku for a second.”
“You WHAT?!?”
The two of you bantered playfully all the way to Recovery Girl’s office. She took one look at you and frowned.
“Tsk. I thought there wasn’t training today?” She rifled around for an ice pack.
“There wasn’t. We played a game and I just sprained my ankle.” You explained sheepishly. “And possibly my wrist.”
Recovery Girl tapped her cane on your knee and sighed heavily. “You guys don’t know how to take care of yourselves! Playing a game and getting injured?” She rubbed her temples. “The hospitals are going to have a field day with the lot of you once you become pros.”
“Sorry. I promise I’ll be more careful next time.” You held in a wince as she prodded your ankle.
“Minor sprains. I’m going to wrap those and give you some gummies. Take this ice pack with you when you go. Ice for 10, leave for 20, and repeat for 3 hours. Got it?”
“Yes ma’am!” You held out your wrist for her to bind.
“And don’t you go do anything else dangerous now, you hear me?”
“Loud and clear!” You hopped nimbly off the table, landing on one leg, and was promptly scooped up again by Bakugou.
“Hey! Let me down! I can walk!” You protested against his arms.
Bakugou turned to Recovery Girl. “Look at her. You really want her to walk?”
“As a matter of fact, I do not. Stay still, young lady, and let him carry you,” she admonished.
You slumped in defeat, and Bakugou carried you out of the room.
“Ahh…young love,” Recovery Girl stared wistfully at your fading silhouettes. “I remember…”
“3!”
“2!”
“1!!”
“HAPPY NEW YEAR’S!!”
The class was situated in the common room, spread out over the numerous couches and munching on fresh cookies (courtesy of Momo and Sato).
And as the clock chimed 12, you looked to Bakugou, sitting right next to you.
“Can…can I…” You started nervously, fingers fidgeting with your ice pack.
“What? Spit it out,” Bakugou stared at you.
“Canikissyou?” You blurted out as fast as your tongue would let you.
He smirked. “What was that? I couldn’t understand you.”
You sighed. “Would…would you mind if I kissed you?”
Bakugou’s lips pulled into a wolfish grin. “All you had to do was ask, dumbass.”
Epilogue
“Do you think they caught on?” Mina whispered excitedly to Sero. “I wasn’t sure if they saw me leading Todoroki and Midoriya to the ball.”
“Nah, I think we’re fine. Besides, it’s not like he can complain. He got a girlfriend thanks to us, right?” Sero chuckled.
“Ok…if you say so…”
Suddenly, they heard a growl coming from the doorway to their left.
“Shit.”
“Run!!”
“I won’t let you bastards get away with this!!”

I actually don't specifically celebrate Xmas but I do love this time of year!
Imma just do some rapid fire cuz I'm bad at schedule posting
1. Fave tradition is riding in the car and looking at the lights! Two houses in my town go really all out!
2. I like being indoors more, so I like drinking coco or warm apple cider or Chai latte and look out the window at the pretty white-blue sky! I used to really like sledding but I can't physically do that anymore.
3. I love standing there as the fluffy snow comes down! Otherwise I stay inside and watch it!
4. Fave Xmas song: Believe (polar express Josh Groban), December Song (Peter Hollens), and lots of a cappella ones!
5. I just want everyone to have a good winter season! Of course I like presents, but I don't have a significant other, caregiver, or even any close friends. So most things I want I put on a personal wishlist and buy when I can. ... I guess right now I'm saving up to buy some video games!
6. Polar Express! Christmas Story! The Santa Clause! A few specific Hallmark movies like A Bramble House Christmas! And lots more but I can't think of more right now.
7. Most of my favorite gifts have come from my bio mom, she's really good at listening about my interests! A few years ago she got me lots of Octonauts toys!
8. I love giving gifts! When I was younger I'd buy gifts for my family when I was with friends, hide them in my closet, and wrap them myself. When I had a big group of pals I'd take the time to get everything personalized and special for them! But it's been awhile since I had pals like that... My bio mom likes scarves and I still have fun finding new ones for her during the season!
9. I color on Happy Color sometimes and they have holiday stuff!
10. Fave holiday snacks would be sweet drinks and chocolates and pastries!
11. Fave holiday food: not sure. I like ham but I like that any time of year!
12. Not really.
13. I like light strings!
14. I have some holiday colored plaid overshirts! And some "ugly sweater" patterned joggers! And some comfy dresses with cute print! Stuff for all the occasions really
15. Skip cuz basically already answered
16. I like lots of them but I'm totally going to say Polar Express again. Or the Snowman!
17. I have a Husky. He sits and lays in the snow all the time! He loves digging in it too!
18. Igloo? Long time ago and not well. I liked digging tunnels in big piles of snow though and making forts!
19. Fake tree that I reuse whenever I do put it up. It's a lot of work + kinda big so it's not up every year. But I'm allergic to a lot of things, pine trees included.
20. Santa Claus is awesome! The spirit of joy and giving from old stories is great. And I love when Santa shows up in movies and shows!
21. I'm not a good singer (even though I like singing a lot on my own) so I've never gone.
22. I like eating gingerbread and I like the idea, but I haven't made a house in a long time.
23. I watch fun movies and stay in comfy clothes and have warm yummy drinks!
24. Xmas eve is a good drive and look at lights time!
25. I've liked Xmas day in recent years where I just relax and do whatever I want! Nothing else specific cuz I enjoy warm yummy drinks, cute comfy clothes, and holiday movies any time of year that the mood strikes me!

December 20 - Year of
Nesta hadn't realized Emerie's shop was closing for Solstice, and apparently, Emerie hadn't realized Nesta wasn't celebrating.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, eyebrows raised, as Nesta entered.
"Working."
"The Commander left last night."
"So? I'm not his keeper."
"You don't...you're not going for Solstice?" Emerie frowned, like she couldn't understand.
Nesta shrugged. "I did not grow up with this holiday. I don't care about it."
"But it's fun," Emerie said, bewildered.
Nesta rolled her eyes as she began rehanging coats. She certainly did not classify an hours-long sit-down meal with her sister's in-laws as fun. Last Solstice, in fact, was a contender for Least Fun Night of Her Life.
"Your sisters probably bought you presents," Emerie said, pestering, which was quite unlike her. It was this obsession with Solstice, this worshipping. Apparently, her employer was infected with it as well. "Don't you like presents?"
"I prefer to buy things myself," Nesta said. She never did get the point of surprises. If you chose something yourself you couldn't possibly be disappointed, which she told Emerie.
"You can ask for something."
"Why do you have to wait for Solstice, then?" Nesta said. "If you want something, just buy it. If you have money. And if you don't, you can't celebrate anyway."
"Solstice isn't just about gifts."
"I don't worship your gods," Nesta said carelessly, making her way behind the front desk. She rifled through some of the papers she had on file—they ought to start thinking about spring wear, if they wanted to stay ahead of everyone else. "We should order lighter wear in January. Start putting things on the racks in February. Judging by how much we've sold this month—"
"I'm not very devout," interrupted Emerie.
Nesta looked up from the papers. Emerie's dark eyes were unblinking, her brown face schooled in a different expression from her usual indifference.
"All right," Nesta said.
"I don't go to any temple on Solstice."
"Fine," Nesta said. She didn't care. She had never been to a temple in her life.
"I still celebrate."
"Fine," Nesta said again. "I think we should order lighterwear in January."
"You should come to mine for dinner tomorrow evening," Emerie said.
Nesta narrowed her eyes.
"I was just going to go to the bonfires," she said. "But we could have a proper dinner."
"You're not spending it with your mother?"
"No...I eat breakfast with her."
Eugh. Breakfast with the whole family. Nesta cannot imagine any day deemed worthy of waking up early and then immediately being barraged by people.
"Fine," she said. "Will you look at this? My predictions for February..."
Emerie wasn't religious, as she said. This wasn't a dinner of worship. Or insufferable so-called family—Emerie never pretended to be Nesta's adoptive sister. Just...someone whom she got along with.
That was fine. This wasn't...instead of something else. It was just dinner. She'd had dinner with Emerie before. Before...before she'd started having it with Cassian every night.
This was fine.
December 15 - 1 year after
Their beautiful new archivist walked like a queen: back straight, chin set, stormy grey eyes surveying all that she saw as if considering everything in her path. All that went away when she picked up a book to read, melting like sugarberry ice in the summer, and it was Zeyn's favorite way to see her.
Her posture changed. Nesta always stood like she had a broom tied to her spine—did it not hurt, he wondered, to be like that all the time?—and when she found herself a quiet corner of Sugar Books, she folded into herself, unaware of her surroundings. Sometimes she would even mindlessly tug on a lock of her hair, tug it right out of the precise braid, and it would curl downwards, playing on her lashes—
"You're staring at her again," Maz snickered.
Zeyn snapped his head back to the book he was supposed to be working on. "I am not."
"Hush, Maz," Leyla said. "He's in love. It's sweet."
"It's creepy."
"I am not in love with her. And keep your voice down," he added, lowering his own dramatically. He risked a glance towards Nesta. Whether she was ignoring them or truly couldn't hear, he could not tell.
He wasn't in love with her. He had only just met her. But how could he not stare? She was so perfectly beautiful. Like she hadn't been born, like she'd been expertly made, sculpted by gods.
"You only think she's beautiful because she's High Fae," Maz said, sounding a bit sour.
"That's ridiculous," Leyla said, cutting in before Zeyn could himself. "Nesta is beautiful. But don't worry, Maz, we think you are, too." She winked as she picked up her crate of books and left.
Maz's eyes followed her out of the room.
"I'm sure she meant it," Zeyn teased.
"Oh, shut up. Go back to staring at Nesta."
"I wasn't staring."
"Were so..."
There was no point in arguing. It sounded pathetic, and it felt it, too. But it didn't need to be that way, right?
"Oh, great, there he goes," Maz muttered under his breath as Zeyn stood. "Off to swoop in on the scary pregnant lady."
Zeyn sincerely hoped she hadn't heard that. Nesta didn't appear to like to talk about her pregnancy much. She didn't like to talk to anyone about anything much. She was private to the point of secrecy.
"Good book?" he asked, sitting down next to her.
"It's all right," she replied, not looking up.
"Never did read any human-authored stuff much," he said. What was that flicker in her eye? "Maybe you could recommend some to me."
"That's my job."
He laughed. She didn't.
He cleared his throat. "So," he said, trying to find something else to talk about. "Are you excited for Solstice?"
That got her to look up. "You have Solstice here?"
He laughed. "Of course we do."
"No, I mean...the holiday?"
"Yeah. Why wouldn't we?"
Nesta looked back down. She closed her book, though. "They don't have it everywhere. In the Summer Court," she added. "They...only celebrate the one in the summer."
"Oh," Zeyn said. "Well...we like to celebrate whatever we can in Sugar Valley." He grinned. "I suppose you've already seen the list of Solstice festivities." Erest, the town councilhead, had been proud to announce it at last week's town meeting. He had hung it on the notice board at the inn, and she was still staying there—although not for much longer, he thought, as Adil definitely had some sort of plans to find her somewhere else.
"I have not," she said.
"Oh. Are you...going back for Solstice? To Prythian?" Perhaps, because she had not realized it was a holiday here as well, she had made plans to leave.
"No. I'm...I don't have anything planned." Something was sitting on the tip of her tongue, behind her red lips, pursed shut. But she didn't let it out.
"Well, you should come to one of the town's celebrations!" An idea clicked into his mind. "I mean, you'll have to come to ours, right?"
"Ours?"
"The Sugar Books celebration. We have a staff party. Solstice Eve."
No one did anything on the day before Solstice, did they? So when he announced to them that they all had to come and pretend like it wasn't only for Nesta, they wouldn't—well, Maz wouldn't be too cross. He doubted the rest of them would mind. Miri would probably even help him plan it.
"Oh. I didn't realize you were...so close."
"We are!" Well, they got along. For the most part. That was enough. "It'll be a lot of fun. You'll come?"
Nesta's eyes darted around the room. She smoothed her hands over her skirts—always a shade of grey, always modest. But not so form-hiding that he hadn't noticed the slight changes in her body over the past month or so. Early pregnancy flattered Nesta. "Sure," she said.
Zeyn bit back his broad grin, not wanting to scare her off. He couldn't stop the excited twitch of his ears, though.
December 21 - year of
This Solstice, Emerie thought, was shaping up to be even less festive than last, which was saying something, because only a few short months before that one, various males in her family had died on the front lines in the war against Hybern.
She had shared a quiet breakfast with her mother, who hadn't spoken too much. Mostly just shot her wary glances. Probably because of the demonic scent all over her.
And now she was preparing dinner to share with that demon.
She didn't blame her mother. Nesta's scent was sweet in the same warding way of venom. Any living being innately knew to stay away from it. And Nesta didn't exactly have a winning personality that encouraged otherwise.
But she did good things for her shop. Emerie liked her for that enough.
Nesta Archeron wasn't a bad person. She didn't deserve to have Solstice alone, even if she didn't celebrate it.
The hair on Emerie's neck prickled when she heard her short raps on the door, but she ignored them. She wasn't scared of her Other employee.
Emerie didn't have much finery, but she did make an effort on Solstice. She wore shoes that were prettier than they were sensible and her hemlines sparkled. A glittering pin kept her braid at the side of her head—her usual hairstyle, but the ornament was only ever worn a few times a year.
Nesta made no such changes to her wardrobe, but she didn't need to. She wore her hair in crown-like knots and braids every day and no matter how drab the grey she wore in her dresses, nothing could dull her beauty.
She had even, Emerie noted, filled out a bit in the weeks she had been here. Her frame, once pitifully thin, had sparked gossip when she had first arrived at camp. Emerie remembered hearing rumors about how the Commander did not feed the High Lady's terrifying sister...
"Happy Solstice," Emerie said.
Nesta grimaced.
Emerie turned so Nesta wouldn't see her roll her eyes. "Wine?" she said, looking over her shoulder.
Nesa's jaw clenched. Her eyes closed. "No," she gritted.
All right, then. Emerie thought perhaps it would be better if she didn't have any, either. She put the bottle down and said, "Don't suppose you saw any of the shows last night." Some of the males put them on—flips and tricks, flying through the air.
"No."
"Neither did I," she said, and she couldn't keep the bitterness out of her voice. That was another thing she liked about Nesta Archeron. She genuinely did not care about anything Emerie's people did. She hadn't liked it at first, but now, seeing her disdain for some of the most respected people in the camps, the absolute apathy she had for the cruel ones who mocked females like her on what was supposed to be a sacred day...
Well. She supposed she had a few reasons to be glad Nesta had decided to enter her shop the day she wandered around their camp alone.
December 18 - 4 years after
It takes an enormous amount of power to winnow all the way across the sea, so on the agreed-upon date, Feyre is to fly to Sugar Valley. Along with her husband.
Things have been much better with her sister over the past month—both of her sisters, actually. Feyre has visited a few times, and Elain came to stay for a whole week. The children had loved that, as Cassian had also managed to spend a few days then.
But she has still not seen Rhysand since that day in September five years ago.
She assumes they—Rhysand and Morrigan—will summon the strength they need to mind themselves in her presence. She doesn't ask for much. Only quiet.
Nicky bounces with excitement all morning, rattling off to Ollie a list of all the things they're going to do "across the sea", courtesy of the stories his aunts and father have spent the past few weeks filling his head with. Avery keeps tapping Nesta's legs and asking when they're going to leave.
Nesta lets them amuse themselves, for the most part, as she double—and triple-checks their bags. Presents for the children that she was instructed to take and keep as surprise until Solstice evening by various townsfolk (some for her as well), clothes, medication for Ollie's lungs—he hasn't needed it in a while, but it never hurt to have it along—some favorite toys, books, the purple cup Avery needs, jars of jam...
All of this, of course, to keep herself busy. Until half past ten, when she hears the knock on her door.
Steeling herself is not particularly easy to do with her children's cries of "I want to open the door!" chorusing around her, but she manages.
Nicky gets there first. He lifts his chubby hand high above his head to reach the doorknob and throws himself at Feyre when he sees her.
"Hey!" she says, laughing as she catches him. "Oh, hello to you, too, Ava!" For Ava has also launched herself at her aunt.
Ollie stays safely behind her legs. He had been excited to see Feyre, but Rhysand, standing behind her, throws him off. He looks up at her, and she smiles down at him reassuringly.
"This is your uncle, Rhys!"
Nesta cannot stop her lip from curling upward. She might deny the relation on her side, but Cassian obviously has not on his.
"Hello," he says, smiling along with Feyre. "Nicky, and Ava...hello, Nesta. You're looking well."
"Hmm."
"And you must be Ollie," Rhys says, bending to his knee, to meet him at eye-level. "Hi. I'm Rhys."
Ollie looks up at Nesta again.
"It's all right," she says to him quietly. "But you can stay with me."
Nesta pulls Avery and Nicky into a hug and tells them she'll see them soon. Rhys holds onto two of their bags and then swoops the pair of them into his arms. With a nod at Nesta, he disappears.
"Ready, Ollie?" Feyre asks him, picking him up and holding him close to her chest.
He nods against her and leans on her shoulder. Nesta grabs the other bags and links her arm in her sister's.
"Let's go."
And they do.
It is, as usual, a most disorienting experience, and Nesta loses her sense of self for a few moments, but Avery's laughing voice brings her back.
She sees Cassian first, holding Ava and Nicky. Ollie squirms out of Feyre's arms to run to him, too.
She feels an arm on her shoulder. "Are you all right, Nesta?"
"Fine," she says to Feyre.
They're in her home, the third one, on the banks of the Sidra. One of the living rooms. Nesta recognizes the stained glass windows, the midnight blues—and, of course, the painted pictures of everyone. Herself excluded, obviously.
She remembers when Feyre had shown her the house. She hadn't mentioned the original Archeron decor, but she hadn't needed to. It had been impossible not to notice, and it still is. Had she expected her to say anything? To ask why?
Perhaps it had bothered her then, but it doesn't now. Nesta has her own house. Contrary to what her sister believes, not everyone you know by blood or happenstance needs to hold an intimate place in your heart, a spot of honor on your walls.
"Nesta? Are you sure you're all right?"
Nesta looks up at Cassian. His smile from seeing the triplets has dimmed. "I'm fine." She clears her throat. "Where can I put our things?"
"Oh, well, actually...we'll take a carriage."
She could swear Cassian bites his lip—in nervousness?
"All right," she says, giving a little shrug. The townhouse doesn't include much better memories than this place, but she guesses it'll be better. At least they'll have their own place, at least she won't have to be around all of them for the whole time. "Let's go."
Feyre and Rhysand help them bring their things down where the carriage is waiting for them.
"We're all the way across the sea, Mummy!" Nicky exclaims, rushing to clasp her hand in his.
"We are, angel."
"And we're...we came the whole way!"
"The whole way."
"For Solstice!"
"Mm-hm," Nesta says, keeping an eye on Avery pulling Ollie along.
"Where are we going now?"
"We're going to take a short ride," she says, lifting him up into the carriage. "Now you Avery—yes, sit tight. We're going to take a short ride to where we'll be staying."
"Where are we staying?"
"With our aunts?"
"No, we'll—"
"Actually," Cassian cuts in, placing Ollie in, "we're going to my house."
Nesta gives him a sharp glance, but he doesn't meet her eye as he helps her in.
"I didn't know you bought a house here," she says, low so the children can't hear her.
"Yeah, I...I mean, do you want to stay at the townhouse? That's empty now."
"No, no, I'm sure yours is fine. I mean. Is it—have you—?"
"Yeah, yeah, I've got beds for them...and you...and there's...I think you'll like it. Close to a park."
No matter how low they talk, all three of them pick up on that.
"We're going to play in the park?"
"Are our aunts coming too?"
"All right," Nesta says, a bit loudly, over them all. "We're going to go to Appa's house first and eat lunch and get settled and then we'll go to the park."
She hides a smile at their answering cheers.
"Where is it?" she asks Cassian.
"Near the Rainbow."
She doesn't particularly like the hustle and bustle of Velaris' city center. Too many people, too loud. Sugar Valley residents can be plenty loud, sure, and all the forgotten gods know that town meetings can be ridiculously stifling, but there are not so many people that Nesta does not know them all by face if not by name.
But she sees the house—Cassian's house—is not too close to the Rainbow. In fact, it's closer to the Sidra. A nice bank, shallow waters. There are some families with small children playing there.
It's styled like most of the houses in Velaris—in fact, it looks a bit similar to the townhouse. She likes the novelty of her blue-boarded house in Sugar Valley, but the maple brown of this one is nice, too.
"Here we are," Cassian says, getting out first, to help them all down. He takes the bags in one hand and Ollie in his other. "Let's go."
The sparsely-decorated inside reminds her a bit of his home in Illyria, but perhaps with a bit more child-proofing done. There are no sharp edges in his living room; the chairs and tables are all rounded, so she doesn't stop the children from rushing off to explore the rooms on the top floor.
"Wow," Nesta says, looking around.
"Do you like it?"
She peers in through a doorway. "You have a proper dining room." She's not jealous. She loves her home. Just...she wishes she had one. It might be nice, one day, when the children are older.
"I haven't got much for it yet."
"I can see that." Beige appears to be the predominant color, which is...interesting. "Why...were you waiting for my sister's Solstice gifts? To match the decor to?" Feyre gives them all paintings every year—or at least, she used to.
Cassian laughs. "No, I was hoping...well, I don't know. I've never decorated a house before."
"You realize how insane that is?" she asks him. "You're nearly six hundred years old."
"I'm not nearly six-hundred years old..." he trails off. They've had this conversation countless times—teasing, gentle, mostly. And then one time, very much not.
"So," he says, clearing his throat. "This is the ground floor. Living room...dining room...kitchen...do you like the cabinets?"
He must be more anxious than she thought. "They're great."
"Do you want to see the upstairs?"
"Sure."
There are four bedrooms. "These two are smaller, so...oh, there you all are!" For the children have made their place in the room clearly meant to be theirs, with little beds corresponding with the colors of the ones in their home in Sugar Valley. "Right. Here's...the master..." He dumps their bags unceremoniously on the floor.
"Nice view," Nesta says, looking out onto the park. She can see the Night Court's mountains in the distance.
"You can stay here," he says. "You know, while you're here."
Nesta turns to face him, blinking. "What?"
"If you want."
"It's your room. It's your house."
"I can sleep in one of the smaller rooms."
"Don't be ridiculous."
"I—please, just take it."
She blinks again. "All right." If he wants her to...
"Mummy!" Avery calls as she runs in. "Mummy, can we have lunch and go play?"
"Yes, ah—you have...do you have food?"
"Yeah, I've gone out and I've got the kitchen stocked...I'll get started, why don't you...settle in?" He leaves her with a parting smile, Avery trailing after him.
Get settled, she thinks. She's not quite sure what that entails, but she decides it includes a few minutes to herself before the overwhelming onslaught of Velaris crashes over her.

1: What did you do in 2020 that you’d never done before?
2: Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
3: Did anyone close to you give birth?
Ikzelf dus.
4: Did anyone close to you die?
Nee.
5: What countries did you visit?
Zuid-Afrika.
6: What would you like to have in 2020 that you lacked in 2019?
Rustmomenten voor mezelf zonder dat ik me er schuldig over voel. (Deze zin is al 2 jaar niet gewijzigd, maar krijgt alleen maar meer betekenis.)
7: What dates from 2020 will remain etched upon your memory?
Begin januari: Ik kom erachter dat ik zwanger ben.
Half maart: lockdown in Nederland, terwijl wij nog in Zuid-Afrika zitten.
9 september: Bram wordt geboren.
8: What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Bevallen, zwanger zijn, en de hormonen de baas blijven (en af en toe ook niet). Solliciteren terwijl ik 7 maanden zwanger was.
9: What was your biggest failure?
10: Did you suffer illness or injury?
De bevalling gebeurde door middel van een keizersnede, wat niet voor niets een grote buikoperatie wordt genoemd. Daarnaast was mijn zwangerschap zelf behoorlijk ziekte-vrij. Wel was ik heel moe. Daarnaast nog wat gaatjes gehad in mijn gebit.
11: What was the best thing you bought?
12: Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Mijn man en mijn naaste omgeving, toen ik behoorlijk last had van zwangerschapshormonen.
13: Whose behaviour made you appalled?
De Amerikaanse President, pro-Zwarte-Pieten, mensen die niet geloven in Corona, mensen die niet geloven in vaccinaties, mensen die ongevraagde meningen geven over moederschap en opvoeding.
14: Where did most of your money go?
In het huis. Met name in de badkamerverbouwing, maar door Corona ook in heel veel andere huisklussen.
15: What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Het huwelijksaanzoek van mijn broer aan zijn vriendin. De geboorte van onze zoon. De gedachte aan het eind van Corona 😊
16: What song will always remind you of 2020?
“Last Great American Dynasty” van Taylor Swift, van het album Folklore.
17: Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? (b) thinner or fatter? c.) richer or poorer?
a. Sadder
b. Thinner
c. Poorer
18: What do you wish you’d done more of?
Meer genieten van mijn zwangerschap of beginnende moederschap, door me minder aan te trekken van wat andere mensen zouden vinden.
19: What do you wish you’d done less of?
Me druk maken om dingen die nog komen gaan en waar ik niets aan kan veranderen. Klagen.
20: How did you spend Christmas?
21: Did you fall in love in 2020?
Op mijn zoontje.
22: What was your favourite TV program?
Wie is de Mol, de serie Parks and Recreation die we opnieuw zijn gaan kijken, Kamp van Koningsbrugge, The Queens Gambit, Tiger King en Draadstaal.
23: Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Nee.
24: What was the best book you read?
25: What was your greatest musical discovery?
26: What did you want and get?
Een kindje dat gezond ter wereld kwam. Een huis dat op orde was, met een verbouwde badkamer en nieuwe spullen.
27: What did you want and not get?
Een relaxte borstvoedingsperiode. Een natuurlijke bevalling, maar dat was niet per sé heel belangrijk achteraf.
28: What was your favourite film of this year?
29: What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Dat we achteraf gezien op het laatste moment (vanwege zwanger worden en vanwege corona) nog een hele mooie reis hebben kunnen maken. En alle steun en gelukswensen van iedereen om ons heen.
30: How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2020?
Alleen als het de buik niet knelt, draag ik het. Lang leve thuiswerken.
31: What kept you sane?
Slapen. Heel. Veel. Slapen.
32: Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Taylor Swift denk ik. En Sam Heugan?
33: What political issue stirred you the most?
Het coronavirus, de Amerikaanse Verkiezingen en de informatiefuik door social media.
34: Who did you miss?
35: Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2020.
Je moet niet altijd in de wat-als gebeuren (Vaak zijn het namelijk hormonen).
En:
Als je basis goed is, spring je hoger.
36: Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Can I go, where you go? Can we always be this close? Forerver and ever…

1. Dogs or Cats?
I have a great passion for all animals but i get overwhelmed so easily by energy and noise that as a pet i greatly prefer cats. Of course they aren’t always quiet or calm but when it comes to dogs, the jumping and barking are a lot for me to process.
2. YouTube celebrities or normal celebrities?
I think both are kind of overrated but i feel that maybe youtube celebrities would be more approachable?
3. If you could live anywhere where would that be?
Probably Sweden or Ireland. I’m fascinated by the history and folklore behind both countries that i’m sure i could spend years learning there in the country and enjoying the beautiful landscapes.
4. Disney or DreamWorks?
Disney 100% I know that they’ve become kind of a capitalist figure but i can’t deny my childhood heart that’s always wholeheartedly enjoyed the movies and shows. The movies were a big part of my childhood and one of the ways i spent time with my grandpa who has now passed.

24: “Would you mind if I kissed you?” Character: Togata Mirio
It was a quiet day at the Nighteye Hero Agency. The streets were unusually tranquil, especially for the usually bustling city of Tokyo.
Considering that it was New Year’s Eve, the streets should’ve been packed, crowded with people and people-watchers alike, those who were traveling to a specific destination and those who were aimlessly wandering through the city. But this year, it was all different.
Quarantine restrictions had some people on edge. Those who were social butterflies craved human interaction, desperately talking with friends online and hoping to regain a semblance of their previously vibrant social lives. Those who weren’t, well, they didn’t mind it much, as long as they weren’t stuck at home with their nosy families day after day. As for today, most people were just glad that this hellish year was over. They didn’t have the ability to revel in the coming of a new decade, nor did they really wish to. They just hoped that, finally, the next year would be as uneventful as possible.
Most people breathed a sigh of relief at the empty streets and noiseless festivities.
You were not most people.
As a sidekick working in one of the most respected agencies in the city, you were worried. You usually had a fairly accurate sense of…well, you would call it intuition. And today, you had a sinking feeling in your gut when you saw the state of the streets.
“Hey,” you called out to Bubble Girl. “Are you sure that there’s been no activity, whatsoever?”
Bubble Girl scrolled through her tablet. “Yes, (Y/H/N). None whatsoever. Lemillion is still patrolling, but he’s checking back in every five minutes, and nothing’s happened so far. Why do you ask?” Her brows furrowed in concern. You didn’t normally ask pointless questions.
“Just…a gut feeling.” You decided to say, not knowing how else to describe it. “I just get the feeling that someone’s planning something big today.”
“Something big…” She frowned in concentration. Suddenly, her face cleared. “(Y/H/N),” she called out. “This intuition of yours…is it limited to bad things, or do you get premonitions of good things too?”
You thought for a moment. “Well…one time when I was smaller, my parents threw a surprise birthday party for me. I had a gut feeling that something was going to go wrong, and then I got really scared when I went home and the lights were all off. I already had my phone dialed to the police, and when they all jumped out from behind the kitchen counter, I fainted. They had to take me to a hospital and I missed my birthday cake.”
Bubble Girl started laughing. “So…was your intuition telling you that you were going to have a surprise party, or was it telling you that you were going to faint and end up in the hospital?”
“That’s the thing. I don’t know. Sometimes, I think that my intuition unintentionally causes the bad things to happen because I’m always overcautious. But it’s hard not to be,” you added. “Especially when you’re in this line of work.”
She sighed. “Yeah, I suppose. But…for today, I think that your intuition is trying to tell you that something good is going to happen.”
You frowned. “And why is that?”
“Well…let’s call it my intuition,” Bubble Girl winked.
Hours later, nothing had happened. No bombing, no murders…nothing. You supposed that even criminals needed a holiday once in a while. Still, the uneasy feeling in your gut never faded.
The front door to the agency crashed open. You sprung up in alarm, but relaxed when you saw that it was only Mirio.
“Hello!” He beamed at you. “Happy New Year’s Eve! Sorry about the door,” he added sheepishly. “I may have underestimated my kick.”
Mirio was holding a box in his arms. Slowly replacing the door with his foot, he set the box down on the ground. “Would you mind getting some blankets from the staff room, (Y/N)?”
“Uh, sure. Why?” You were beginning to get suspicious. “Mirio, what’s in that box?”
“N-nothing, (Y/N). I just picked up some supplies for Peder.” Mirio quickly covered the box with his cape.
You were beginning to think that whatever catastrophe you felt was going to happen, it was going to involve the mystery inside that ordinary cardboard box. Quickly heading to the staff room to supply Mirio with some blankets, you bumped into Bubble Girl.
She was holding a large sack of something in her arms, all of which landed on your feet when you crashed into her.
“Crap! I’m so sorry, (Y/H/N),” she apologized profusely. “I should’ve watched where I was going-”
Ignoring her, you were instead busy analyzing the contents of the sack that had spilled onto the ground.
“Bubble Girl, what’s all this?” You directed your gaze towards a bag of what looked to be…dog kibble?
“Oh! Uh, Peder wanted to try a new diet! He says that a nutrition expert suggested some vitamin supplements and such. For his specific constitution, of course.” She hastily scooped up the sack and hurried out to the lobby.
“…Peder’s supplements? In the lobby? She should’ve come up with a better excuse,” you shook your head. By now, your inkling of suspicion had been practically confirmed. You made your way to the staff room and grabbed the two fuzziest blankets you could find.
Heading back towards the lobby, you stopped at the doorway when you heard a strange noise.
“Woof!” The sound echoed through the room again, and you smiled. “Mirio…always doing things like that, aren’t you?” You murmured underneath your breath, leaning on the doorframe.
The man in question was holding out a tennis ball with his left hand, bouncing it up and down, much to the delight of an enthused puppy. Bubble Girl was crouching to the side, filling a dog bowl full of kibble. Your heart warmed at the scene.
“Hey Mirio, I brought the blankets,” you stepped into the room, startling both the puppy and Mirio.
“Thank you, (Y/N)!” Mirio held a hand to his neck, chuckling awkwardly. “Well…this was supposed to be a surprise,” he shrugged. “For New Year’s, you know?”
You giggled at his antics. “Well…it’s nice to know that my intuition can predict happy events too,” you passed the blanket over to him.
Turning to Bubble Girl, you raised your eyebrows at her. “Did you know? Was that why you weren’t worried this morning?”
“Yeah, I did,” she smiled. “I’m glad to know that I was right.”
You looked at the puppy bouncing around on the new blanket fort Mirio had made. “What are you going to name it?” You sat cross-legged on the floor, holding out your hands to fluffy ball of energy. It barked once at you, then leapt right into your arms.
“Well, I was thinking…Milo?” Mirio looked to you, cocking his head sideways. “Do you like it?”
Gently scratching behind the pup’s ears, you snuggled him even closer to your chest. “I love it.” You picked him up by his haunches and held him up to your head. He waggled a little paw in response.
“Welcome to the family, Milo,” you said softly, stroking his soft fur. He nuzzled even deeper into your warmth, resting his soft head atop your shoulder.
“He likes you,” Mirio noted, grinning widely. Shifting his weight to the side, he reached behind your back and shook out the blanket, draping it across your arms.
Bubble Girl took one look at the two of you, muttered an excuse about paperwork, and quickly left the room. You glanced at her hasty retreat with raised eyebrows. That wasn’t entirely normal either.
“So, uh, (Y/N),” Mirio started. He’d moved closer, and his broad shoulder was now pressed against yours. “I…I really like you. As more than a friend.” He blushed, his cheeks turning a rosy hue. “And…I, uh, I want to take you out to lunch sometime. Can I do that?”
You were fairly sure that you had heard him wrong. As your breath hitched in your throat, you turned to face him, eyes wide. “You…you like me? As more than friends?”
Mirio’s lips cracked into his characteristic smile. “Yes, (Y/N). As more than friends.” He confirmed.
A blush rose to your cheeks. “Then it’s good that we feel the same way, right?” You smiled back at him.
He breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s very good.” Leaning closer, he cupped your face with a calloused palm.
“(Y/N) …would you mind if I kissed you?”
You tilted your face up and answered him with a kiss. Your lips met, and it didn’t take much prodding for you to open up to his adventurous tongue. Sighing into his mouth, you wrapped your arms around his neck.
“Mm…Mirio,” you mumbled against his chest when the two of you had come up for breath.
“Yes, (Y/N)?” Mirio rested his chin atop your head.
“Happy New Year’s.”

My 25 Favorite Films of 2017
It’s hard to believe that 2017 is already coming to a close. Here’s my 25 favorite films from the year!
25. Girls Trip

Perhaps it’s the Bridesmaids or The Hangover of 2017, Girls Trip is a fun, buddy comedy about a group of women who try to rekindle their friendship during a trip to New Orleans. Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith are always reliable and Regina Hall is an underrated lead, but it’s breakout star Tiffany Haddish that gets the biggest laughs.
24. All The Money in the World

All The Money in the World is a good film on its own, but what makes it historic is what went on behind the scenes. Ridley Scott pulled off the impossible by replacing its disgraced star Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer with only roughly a month ahead of its original Christmas release. The film is based on the events of the 1973 kidnapping of John Paul Getty’s grandson. All The Money is a highwire thriller, but it’s Plummer’s brilliant, cold-hearted performance that steals the show.
23. Okja

Korean director Bong Joon-ho behind such films as The Host and Snowpiercer debuted this gem. Okja follows a girl’s battle to protect her “superpig” from a juggernaut company that plans on turning her pet into food. This action adventure was easily one of Netflix’s strongest original films to date. The stellar cast includes Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Jake Gyllenhaal, Steven Yeun, Lilly Collins, and newcomer Seo-hyeon Ahn.
22. Battle of the Sexes

Emma Stone and Steve Carrell face off as Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in the most historic tennis match in history. Battle of the Sexes is a fun, empowering, nostalgic sports dramedy from Little Miss Sunshine’s Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.
21. Stronger
Based on the incredible true story, Stronger follows Jeff Bauman and his struggle for normalcy after surviving the Boston Marathon bombing. Time and time again, Jake Gyllenhaal proves to be one of Hollywood’s most under-celebrated actors today as he arguably gives the most challenging performance of his career. Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) also deserves praise for her raw, emotional supporting role. Stronger is a powerful, moving biopic that reminds us that there’s always hope even in the darkest moments.
20. Split

After releasing numerous duds, it appears that M. Night Shyamalan is finally making a comeback. Split kicked off 2017 with a wild psychological thriller surrounding the kidnapping of three young women who’ve been imprisoned by a man with multiple personality disorder. James McAvoy gives a memorable performance as he channels well over a dozen personalities.
19. Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman broke the glass ceiling on many fronts: one being the first female-lead superhero blockbuster and such a blockbuster was directed by a woman. Gal Gadot made her big-screen debut as the Amazon princess in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but she absolutely nails it in her first solo flick. Many have considered this film to be the strongest film in the DC Cinematic Universe yet.
18. Alien: Covenant

Ridley Scott certainly kept himself busy this year. In the latest chapter of this deep-space horror franchise, a colony ship makes a fatal detour on a planet filled with our favorite aliens. Accompanied by an all-star cast, Michael Fassbender is on double duty with two fantastic performances. While Prometheus settled the groundwork, Alien: Covenant returned to its heart-pounding roots that made these films such a big success.
17. It

Very rarely do remakes exceed its predecessors, but the 2017 remake of Stephen King’s It really deserves praising. Bill Skarsgård managed to make Pennywise his own with his terrifying interpretation of the murderous clown. That being said, the film heavily relies on the tremendous cast of young actors including Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, and Jeremy Ray Taylor. Filled with good scares and disturbing imagery, It will have a new generation afraid of clowns.
16. Darkest Hour

Gary Oldman gives a transformative, Oscar-worthy performance as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. The film takes place during the chaotic transition period the United Kingdom face in the midst of WWII and gives a glimpse of Churchill’s bumpy start to his successful era of leadership. Darkest Hour is a captivating drama with sprinkled humor throughout.
15. Get Out

Part horror, part thriller, part social satire, Get Out marks the directorial debut of funnyman Jordan Peele. An interracial couple is put to the test when the black boyfriend visits the white girlfriend’s family, but once he gets there, he’ll learn that her family may have something sinister planned for him. While it’s sort of hard to explain it, Get Out is a unique, thought-provoking, movie-going experience unlike any other in 2017 that’s carried by a strong cast and an intriguing plot.
14. The Wedding Plan

Chances are you haven’t heard of The Wedding Plan, but it’s one of the most relatable films of the year. This Israeli romantic comedy follows an anxious bride-to-be who decides to keep her wedding date after her fiancé dumped her just weeks before and literally relies on faith in order to find a groom before she walks down the aisle. Yes, the plot’s that zany, but Noa Koler’s heartwarming and heartbreaking performance truly carries the film.
13. Dunkirk

It’s been three long years, but Christopher Nolan returned with an immersive war flick Dunkirk, which depicts the underdog WWII rescue effort of the British military that was surrounded by German troops. While there isn’t exactly a straight-forward plot, the incredible cinematography, editing, and sound design keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
12. War of the Planet of the Apes

An epic conclusion to one of the strongest trilogies in recent memory, War of the Planet of the Apes was a rare reboot that actually exceeded its predecessors. For three films, Andy Serkis brilliantly humanizes the lead ape Caesar as the climax escalates the brutal battle between human and ape.
11. The Shape of Water
If Beauty and the Beast and Creature From The Black Lagoon had a beautifully weird baby, it would be Guillermo del Toro’s latest film The Shape of Water. The story surrounds a mute janitor who forms a relationship with a creature trapped in the laboratory she works at and her personal mission to help him escape. She doesn’t even speak a word, yet Sally Hawkins gives one of the best performances of the year and she’s joined by a spectacular supporting cast including Octavia Spencer, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, and Michael Stuhlberg. Visually stunning and emotionally enthralling, this is del Toro’s best film since Pan’s Labyrith.
10. Call Me By Your Name

An emotionally complex film, Call Me By Your Name tells the story of a romance that blossoms between a 17-year-old boy and his father’s 24-year-old research assistant. In the wake of the #MeToo movement, such an inappropriate relationship would/should be frowned upon, but as viewers, you sympathize with Elio and Oliver not just because they’re likable characters but for the powerful performances that came with them, particularly from breakout star Timothée Chalamet.
9. The Killing of a Sacred Deer

The closest thing to an Alfred Hitchcock film in 2017, The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a suspenseful, psychological thriller that virtually no one saw. The film follows teenager who gets brutal revenge after a doctor failed to save his father’s life. Newcomer Barry Keoghan, who you’ve might have seen in Dunkirk, gives a unsettling, outstanding performance. Between this and his last film The Lobster, writer/director Yorgos Lanthimos is proving to be a filmmaker Hollywood should watch out for.
8. The Disaster Artist

If you haven’t seen The Room, it’s a 2003 film that has earned a cult following because it’s so incredibly bad, it became unintentionally hysterical. The Disaster Artist is about the making of that film with James Franco starring, producing and directing the film. Franco manages to earn big laughs and also give a transformative performance as the infamous Tommy Wiseau. With tons of A-list cameos and a brutal glimpse of the film industry, The Disaster Artist made the making of a painfully bad film painfully funny.
7. The LEGO Batman Movie

Not only was this a great animated movie, it was also a great Batman movie. The LEGO Batman Movie allows its self-awareness to drive the narrative that examines Batman’s relationship on a psychological level. Filled with tons of fun Easter eggs and references to previous Batman films, this LEGO movie will leave you nostalgic and laughing til it hurts.
6. Lady Bird

Actress Greta Gerwig makes a strong directorial debut with this down-to-earth coming of age comedy about a Sacramento teen transitioning into adulthood. In film after film, Soirse Ronan shows that she’s one of the best actresses in the millennial generation and Laurie Metcalf, who may win the Oscar playing her heartfelt but judgmental mother, shows that she’s one of the most under-celebrated actresses of our time.
5. The Big Sick

The greatest romantic comedy since Silver Linings Playbook, The Big Sick is a rare film because it feels authentic and real... and that’s probably due to the fact that it’s based on the stranger-than-fiction true story behind Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gordon’s relationship. Nanjiani essentially stars as himself (which he does a terrific job) and has great chemistry with his co-star Zoe Kazan. Ray Romano and Holly Hunter give hilarious, heartwarming performances as the parents who meet Nanjiani as their daughter is in a coma. From the culture clashes, the comedy industry, to the modern era of dating, The Big Sick feels more relevant than ever and can resonate with any audience.
4. Coco

Disney/Pixar has a gift of continuously melting people’s hearts. And they do so again with their beautifully-animated latest, Coco. Miguel is an aspiring musician in a family that has banned music after his great grandfather abandoned them for pursue stardom. And after being transported into the Land of the Dead, Miguel must track down his ancestor in order to return home. The importance of art is obviously a theme, but the heart of the film is about family, pursuing our dreams, and the significance of leaving a legacy. Coco is rich with a cast of lovable characters, great music, and a satisfying ending that may leave you in tears.
3. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri may be a mouthful, but it’s also masterful work from writer/director Martin McDonagh. Frances McDormand gives an Oscar-bound performance as grieving, no-nonsense mother determined to pressure the police to solve the murder of her daughter. She is accompanied by a strong ensemble cast which include strong supporting performances from Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson. Three Billboards is the only film this year that will make you laugh, cringe, and anxious all at once. It’s the closest thing to Fargo since Fargo... and the Fargo TV series.
2. Baby Driver

Edgar Wright, the mastermind behind Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, finally found commercial success with Baby Driver, a terrifically-edited heist film with the greatest film soundtrack in recent memory. Aside from the uncomfortable fact this will go down as Kevin Spacey’s last great film, Ansel Elgort proves he’s got the chops for a leading role. With lots of well-choreographed action sequences and even some laugh, Baby Driver is absolute fun and is why we go to the movies.
1. I, Tonya
Who would have thought that it would take a dark comedy to make Tonya Harding look sympathetic? I, Tonya is a unique, Goodfellas-like biopic that gives multiple, not entirely reliable perspectives surrounding the infamous attack of Nancy Kerrigan. Margot Robbie offers a layered, grounded depiction of someone who was painted as a cultural villain. Allison Janney also knocks it out of the park as her cruel yet hilarious mother. The works of director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Steven Rogers have spanned decades, but their collaboration here is the best of their careers. Combined with great editing and an awesome soundtrack, I, Tonya is a rare film in 2017 that isn’t just another remake, sequel, or ripoff; it skates on its own.

Honestly EVERYTHING. I’ve been waiting for this pack since TS4 came out, I’m just so excited to see the finished product.

It’s not a big factor to me! I’m honestly in love with what they have done so far- I’m content with the pack as is, as of right now.

2020-2021 New Year’s Sleepover Event!! 🥳
hey guys!! so i decided that i will be doing a new year’s sleepover event this year for funsies because 2020 was just...ugh...and i want to start 2021 with some good vibes so...here it is!
all asks from December 31st to January 1st will be considered part of this event and will be tagged #coco’s new year celebration 20-21!
so...for the prompts, you have a variety of choices!!
you can ask me something personal, like...
If you could have a New Year’s wish, what would it be?
How do you feel at the start of a new year?
What is your favorite New Year’s memory?
How do you celebrate New Year’s?
What are you the most excited for in the coming year?
Are you sad to see the old year pass?
Do you like to celebrate on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day?
How was your last year successful?
By the end of the year, I will…
What was your favorite part about last year?
If you could celebrate the new year from anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Is New Year’s significant to you?
What is the best way to ring in a new year?
How long does it take you to get used to the new year?
What is your favorite part of New Year’s celebrations?
or...you could ask me to write a little drabble using these prompts or one of your own choosing! i don’t mind! please limit the ask to 1 character per ask, but you can send in as many asks as you like! please do not send in the same character x prompt ask that someone else has already sent. repeated characters and repeated prompts are both okay, but the same character with the same prompt is a little bit too much. please keep in mind that i do NOT write for overhaul or afo! you can specify what genre you want the drabble to be, but if you don’t, it will be up to me :p
please keep in mind that my general rules for requesting still apply!
to make things easier, please specify what gender you want the reader to be! if you don’t, i will try my best to make it gender neutral.
“You knocked on my door at 2 in the morning, to cuddle?”
“I wish I could stop loving you”
“Go on, I dare you”
“Make me”
“Why are you staring at me like that?”
“Just one? Please?”
“I’m lonely.”
“Don’t make fun of me!”
“Happy New Year’s”
“KISS KISS KISS KISS”
“Shit, did I say that out loud?”
“Guess I’m not the only one heartbroken here, eh?”
“You can sing?”
“You’re so cute when you’re mad”
“Don’t leave. Please”
“Surprise!”
“Are you crazy?”
“Happy anniversary!”
“I may be drunk, but I meant every word of what I said”
“...did you shake the champagne?”
“You’re hiding under the blanket because you’re blushing?”
“Would it be too cliche if we matched clothes?”
“Were you flirting with me the entire time?”
“Would you mind if I kissed you?”
“I’m so sorry they couldn't make it baby, but I'm here now."
“Traditions are overrated anyways.”
“Sorry for bothering you"
“You’ve changed.”
“I’ve seen you here every week and I still don't know your name”
“Look what I found!”
i won’t do au prompts for this event simply because i don’t have the brainpower to tackle world-building right now aldkjhfalkjsdh-
please don’t be shy to send in a request!!! i swear i’m more awkward than u are 💯 😖

British 18-year-old debutant Emma Raducanu beats Marketa Vondrousova to reach Wimbledon third round

British 18-year-old debutant Emma Raducanu beats Marketa Vondrousova to reach Wimbledon third round

Wimbledon debutant Emma Raducanu knocks out Marketa Vondrousova to reach third round – GETTY IMAGES
A new star is among us. Move over Sir Andy, there is another Brit clamouring for a share of the Wimbledon headlines and the former men’s champion would be the first to salute the magnificent achievement of 18-year-old wildcard debutant Emma Raducanu making a mockery of form and status in defeating Marketa Vondrousova 6-2, 6-4, a player ranked 296 places above her to go through to the third round, the lone British woman flag-bearer.
And she will fulfil that honour with nerve and gusto as well as the occasional cheery smile as was seen flashing across her face during her one hour and 12 minutes out on court, toppling to the turf in exultation at the finish as well she might.
Two months ago Raducanu was sitting her A-levels, unknown and unheralded. Those days of anonymity are gone. This was her sporting matriculation. From sixth-former to prodigy in the spotlight. The wheel is turning and Raducanu is enjoying the ride as well she might given that her hobbies include go-karting and motocross. As with tennis, so with her life, multi-layered.
She was asked afterwards if she would rather A* in her exams or round four.
“That would have to be round four,” laughed Raducanu. “It feels quite incredible, like as if I’m on a holiday and I want to stay here as long as I can. I’ve got high standards of myself and go out there feeling as if I’ve got nothing to lose. I play every point as if it were to be my last at Wimbledon. This is my opportunity to show that I’m here. I’m so appreciative of the support and I want to do everyone proud. I’m trying to make the most of it.”
She had wandered onto court in the watery early evening sunshine on her own, giving a self-conscious wave to the scattering of fans who had gathered on Court 12, a late switch of courts from No 18 so as to ensure that the game got played. As she waited for a few minutes for her opponent to appear she sat in her chair all alone, ear-buds in, a study in nonchalance.
As Coco Gauff has shown, it is up to us to get used to precocity, not the other way around. These are youngsters, self-evidently, but they are here on merit. Even if Raducanu benefitted from a wildcard, it was her prowess that got her to that point, not nepotism. Appearances only matter out in the middle and Raducanu’s body language was positive, even affording herself a rueful smile as she leathered the first point way over the baseline from the back of court. At least she was up for the fight. And it soon showed, Raducanu securing an early break of serve in the third game with a delightful whipped cross-court forehand.
Story continues
There was nothing flighty or naïve in Raducanu’s game. If you knew nothing of the CVs of the two players, you would have assumed that the British player was the higher ranked and more experienced. She dictated play, pounding shots, dinking others, showing the nerve of a veteran. The opening game went to Vondrousova on serve, an unsurprising state of affairs given that the Czech is ranked 42 in the world and has been as high as 14.
But that was pretty much it for the 22 year-old, a bracing, serve-breaking start to the second set apart but Raducanu dealt with that too, scrapping to overcome that 0-3 deficit.
The early nerves didn’t last long. Rudacanu survived a couple of break points in her first service game but fought to hold, levelling at 1-1, the first of five games in a row that she took. It was supremely impressive stuff, a young talent with faith in her ability and the strength of character to put it all out there. Why should we be surprised given the exploits of the likes of teenagers Jadon Sancho or Jude Bellingham in England football colours? At this rate it won’t be long before Raducanu is operating at a similar commercial level to the footballers.

Emma Raducanu leaves the court after her victory – PA
Her season’s prize money coming into this tournament was barely into four figures although she does benefit from LTA support. Winning through to the third round guarantees her £115,000. Wimbledon was probably also echoing last night to the sound of agents and sponsors beating a path to her door.
Saturday’s likely showcourt contest with another surprise winner, Sorana Cirstea of Romania, who knocked out two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka, will be a far more public affair.
There will be no clash of loyalties for her Romanian father who moved his Toronto-born daughter and Chinese wife to London when Emma was aged two. It was a shrewd move. Prepare to cheer Raducanu to the rafters.
Vacuum at summit of women’s tennis crying out to be filled

World No 1 Ash Barty is forced to work hard for her victory – SHUTTERSTOCK
Ashleigh Barty is a world No 1 yet to reach a Wimbledon quarter-final, and one who toiled here to vanquish a Russian Centre Court debutant better known for her chess prowess. Aryna Sabalenka is a No 2 seed making her maiden third-round appearance on these lawns, having struggled to overcome a British wildcard. In just four days, six of the top 10 seeds have been scattered to the wind, sparking no little concern about what life after Serena Williams will look like.
This state of flux was in stark evidence at last month’s French Open, where Barbora Krejcikova, once known primarily as a doubles specialist, was the last woman standing. It is becoming a recurrent theme at Wimbledon, too, with Williams’ withdrawal through injury, allied to the absences of Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep, producing arguably the most open draw in living memory. Barty, long mentored by Evonne Goolagong Cawley, the last ladies’ champion from Australia, will never have a better chance to end her country’s 41-year wait for a repeat.
She is the most deferential of proteges, wearing a scallop dress to honour the outfit chosen by Goolagong for her first Wimbledon triumph half a century ago. The two also share indigenous heritage, with Goolagong a celebrated trailblazer for her remote Aboriginal community and Barty tracing roots to the Ngarigo people of New South Wales through her father, Robert.
There, perhaps, the similarities end. Where Goolagong was famously outgoing by nature, dubbed by Londoners as the “Sunshine Supergirl”, Barty is an instinctive introvert, betraying negligible emotion on court and even less off it. Her fellow Australians adore her for her lack of pretension, but she shows limited warmth in post-match interviews, using the royal “we” to describe her performances and leaning on phrases that belong more in a self-help manual. Twice this week she has spoken of “going out there and putting your dreams out to the universe”.
Barty has held her sport’s No 1 spot for two years, a reflection both of her surprise French Open title in 2019 and of a decision by the women’s tour to freeze the rankings once the pandemic struck. But she scarcely looked like the alpha female against Anna Blinkova, the precocious Muscovite renowned also for her chess skill and her mastery of six languages. During an error-strewn 6-4, 6-3 win, she committed 33 unforced errors and nine double faults, raising doubt as to whether the hip injury she sustained at Roland Garros had fully healed.
“A few things didn’t feel quite right,” Barty acknowledged. “It wasn’t my best serving day, and I felt like I was out of rhythm a little. Some days you feel like you’re eight-foot-tall and can’t miss the box. Other days, you feel like you’re three-foot-nothing, where just getting over the net is a bit of a battle.”
While this transition phase for the women’s game might be bewilderingly unpredictable, it is still producing matches of lustrous quality. The latest highlight was a riveting, 3hr 20min duel between Angelique Kerber and Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo, edged by the German 7-5, 5-7, 6-4. Rarely can the 2018 champion have been forced to grind so relentlessly at her strongest tournament.
Given the dearth of multiple champions left, the stage could yet be seized by 17-year-old Coco Gauff, already proving decisively that her inspired run to the fourth round in 2019 was no false dawn. She was poise personified against Elena Vesnina, dismantling the former semi-finalist with her power and accuracy, weapons that the leading contenders have still to demonstrate with any consistency this week.
On her Centre Court return, Gauff was no longer the giddy sensation, but the versatile talent who recognised that she belonged. “Walking out here feels like you’re walking through a museum,” she said. “I don’t really like the word ‘expectations’. I use the word ‘belief’. I believe that I can win. My goal is always to win the tournament, regardless of my ranking or what people think of me. Everything is much clearer than it was in 2019. My belief is a lot stronger now – the feeling that I can go far.”

Cam Norrie speaks after his straight sets win over Alex Bolt
On being through to the the round for the first time…
“Unbelievable to be back here – the fans were amazing it made it feel more special. I couldn’t be more pleased to be through to the third round.”
On beat Alex Bolt…
“It was a tricky start, he came out firing. But I could trust the foot today and I was pleased with everything and there was a lot of improvement [compared with first round win].”
On possibly playing Roger Federer in the third round – he faces Richard Gasquet later today…
“Come on, Gasquet! It will be special to play Roger or Richard, they’re both experienced players. I suppose now is the best time to play Roger, [but] he’s still a decent player. He can play!”
02:13 PM
Ash Barty speaks

02:11 PM
BARTY WINS THE MATCH 6-4, 6-3!!
Barty has two match points on the Blinkova serve and plays a winner on the second of those – it was called out but Barty successfully challenges. They replay the point and Barty wins the match.
Barty was well bellow her best but she’s through. Blinkova played her part in the match and gave the world No.1 plenty to think about.
02:06 PM
Barty 6-4, 5-3 Blinkova* (*denotes next server)
Blinkova’s backhands are deep into Barty and from 40-15 up the world No.1 is up against it on her serve at deuce. Again Blinkova goes deep with a backhand, setting up an excellent crosscourt winner. That earns her a break point which she cannot take. She earns another break point with a delightful forehand crosscourt winner which again she cannot take. On the third deuce Barty serves up another double fault to gift Blinkova her third break point. Again Barty plays a backhand winner to save and take it to another deuce. Blinkova has another break point and it’s deja vu all over again as she cannot capitalises. From there Barty holds. That was a nine-minute game.
Blinkova will now serve to stay in the match.
01:56 PM
Barty* 6-4, 4-3 Blinkova (*denotes next server)
Blinkova’s serve is on the blink again as Barty earns a break point. The Russian is under pressure but throws down a good second serve to save the break point. Barty gets another break point thanks to a wonderful lob – brilliant shotmaking. The world No.1 then makes no mistake with a backhand winner on the run to take control of the second set.
01:50 PM
Confirmation Svitolina is out
The third seed’s championship is over.
01:49 PM
Barty 6-4, 3-3 Blinkova* (*denotes next server)
Better service game from Barty but the errors elsewhere remain – a sliced backhand into the net an uncharacteristic mistake from the Australian. She does just enough to hold to 30 and the second set stays on serve.
01:46 PM
Classy Cam
From 0-3 down in the first set the Briton has dominated against Alex Bolt and has won in straight sets.
01:45 PM
Barty* 6-4, 2-3 Blinkova (*denotes next server)
Much better from Blinkova on her serve – she’s been under pressure most of the match on serve but holds to 15. That’s three games in a row for the Russian.
01:43 PM
Barty 6-4, 2-2 Blinkova* (*denotes next server)
Barty is taken to deuce after a fine forehand passing shot from Blinkova. Under pressure the first seed then plants a forehand into the net and her opponent has a break point. Another double fault (her seventh) gifts Blinkova the game. Just when you think Barty is about to go up a gear she falters…
01:36 PM
Barty* 6-4, 2-1 Blinkova (*denotes next server)
Barty has had 22 unforced errors so far – a sign that she’s well below her best at the moment. But Blinkova’s serve is even more erratic than some of Barty’s groundstrokes and at deuce is in danger of being broken once again. She wins the next two points, though, and holds.

Barty
01:31 PM
Barty 6-4, 2-0 Blinkova* (*denotes next server)
Barty is brilliant when on song and she’s showing signs of that the further this match goes on. She moves Blinkova around the court with some powerful groundstrokes before coming into the net for a volleyed winner. That gets her to 40-0. But the errors are lingering and her sixth double fault allows Blinkova to get back into the game at 40-30. A forehand winner, however, gets her the 2-0 second-set lead.
01:27 PM
Barty* 6-4, 1-0 Blinkova (*denotes next server)
Barty is dominating the Blinkova serve and has three break points. Blinkova, though, is a battler and gets in back to deuces – the errors are still coming from Barty. The Aussie then earns her fourth break point of the game and this time a drive backhand is backed up with a forehand winner down the line and she’s got the early break in the second set.
01:22 PM
Third seed Elina Svitolina is out
Linette beats one of the favourites 6-3, 6-4.
01:19 PM
BARTY TAKES THE FIRST SET 6-4
Barty’s well below her best but she’s managed to find the shots when she’s needed them this afternoon. She holds to love and takes the first set.
01:16 PM
Barty* 5-4 Blinkova (*denotes next server)
It’s Blinkova now forcing the errors from Barty – the Aussie missing a sliced backhand (one of her weapons) early on. At 4-4 30-30 Blinkova has a great chance to put some scoreboard pressure on the world No.1 but sends a forehand wide. Barty then can’t capitalise on the break point as another backhand hits the net. The Australian earns another break point and this time a blistering forehand does the trick and the first seed will serve for the first set.
01:11 PM
Barty 4-4 Blinkova* (*denotes next server)
Barty has already had four double faults (during her first round win she only had three all match). She’s down 0-30 early on in this game BUT a Blinkova error and another forehand winner allow her to reach parity. 30-30 soon becomes deuce and the Russian has a break point thanks to a Barty long forehand. She converts it and both players are looking on edge and unsettled.
01:06 PM
Cam is in control
01:05 PM
Barty* 4-3 Blinkova (*denotes next server)
Both players are proving to be error-prone at the moment – Barty is showing the better touch and a delicate drop shot gets her to 0-40. She had three break points last Blinkova service game and couldn’t convert any of them. She makes no mistake this time and breaks to love. She’s just starting to settle.
01:02 PM
Barty 3-3 Blinkova* (*denotes next server)
Barty is making a few uncharacteristic errors, but she has a fine forehand. It’s a heavy shot that takes opponents out of position and two forehands back-to-back allow her to hold to 30.
12:58 PM
Barty* 2-3 Blinkova (*denotes next server)
Barty is hitting some good groundstrokes from the back of the court and waiting for Blinkova to make the error, which she does twice on the way to the Aussie getting three break points. The Russian is under pressure but two wayward forehands gets Blinkova back into the game at 30-40. And Barty then uncharacteristically plants a backhand into the net. The Russian wins five points in a row for a gutsy hold.
12:52 PM
Barty 2-2 Blinkova* (*denotes next server)
Barty is starting to look more comfortable after that nervy start. She sends down the first ace of the match to get to 30-15. She follows that up with the second two points later and holds to 30.
12:50 PM
Norrie has taken the first set having been 0-3 down
12:49 PM
Barty* 1-2 Blinkova (*denotes next server)
Blinkova has strapping on her right hand (the one the holds the racquet) that cannot be good. It’s not obvioulsy affecting her but Barty, thanks to some unforced errors, earn two break points. And another wide forehand from Blinkova allows the Aussie to break straight back.
12:46 PM
Barty 0-2 Blinkova* (*denotes next server)
Barty’s golf swing has been praised by Tiger Woods and it’s no shock that her serve is also efficient and effective as well. She mixes her serves and makes her opponent think. She does just that while show a lovely touch – playing a backhand drop shot winner. However, she’s looking a bit nervous and a double fault gifts Blinkova a break point. The Russian had a fine chance to go 2-0 up but fires a forehand on the run into the net. She, however, earns another break point next up and a double fault from Barty gives the Russian the early break.
Barty looked edgy in that game.
12:41 PM
Barty* 0-1 Blinkova (*denotes next server)
The Russian serves first and misses her first two first serves – not a great omen. Barty is a fine strokemaker and she hits a wonderful forehand winner to take the second point of the match. The first few games are always about trying to settle into rhythm and Blinkova has done just that holding to 15. She looked at ease there – a solid start.
12:34 PM
Barty and Blinkova are out on court
How will US Open semi-finalist Blinkova deal with the world No.1?
12:32 PM
French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova into the third round
12:27 PM
John McEnroe on Norrie
The BBC commentator (and all-time great) has just said…
The pressure is on Norrie – the seed, the favourite, the Brit. Bolt’s tricky though – I have watched play a number of times – he’s not a guy that’s going to beat himself.
As I type that Norrie has broken back and it’s now 3-2 to Bolt.
12:21 PM
Norrie down a break already
Bolt has stormed to a 3-0 first-set lead. Plenty of time to go, though, so no need to panic.
12:15 PM
Fourth seed Zverev is through
12:13 PM
Cam Norrie is having a great year and…
…he’s just got his match against Australian and fellow lefty Alex Bolt under way on Court One. He’s up to a career high of 34th in the rankings and I’ll keep you posted on how the Brit is doing. The winner of this match could face Roger Federer in the third round…

Cam Norrie
12:10 PM
So let’s talk about the slippery Centre Court surface
It’s dominated much of the talk surrounding these championships so far having claimed the title tilt of Serena Williams and helped Roger Federer through to the second round after his opponent Adrian Mannarino fell and hurt his knee.
So what is going on? It’s apparently more slippery than usual and the number of falls we’re seeing – Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are just two two big names to fall on the lush turf – must be making players, coaches and fans worry ahead of every point.
Our very own Tom Morgan looked into the slippery shame…
“There has been speculation that Centre Court’s state-of-the-art ventilation system may have been a factor in failing to dry the surface. Over 600 air distributors pump dry air into the space when the roof is closed as part of a roof design led by Populous, which also led the regeneration of Wembley and Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium.”

12:01 PM
Who is Anna Blinkova?
The Russian is ranked No. 89 in the world and hasn’t been able to translate her great junior form on the senior circuit. The 22-year -old was runner-up at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships in girls’ singles and was ranked the No. 3 junior tennis player in the world in August 2015. She has a career high ranking of 54 back in February last year.

The talented Ash Barty is the one to beat at SW19
Ash Barty is one of those really annoying people. Not because of her personality, or any grating habits, no, she’s really annoying as she’s one of those people who can turn their hand to any sport and seemingly be very, very, very (I could carry on, but that too would be annoying…) good at it.
During lockdown she got her golf handicap down from 10 to four and became the Brookwater Golf Club women’s champion in the process. Louis Dobbelaar, a two-time Queensland amateur champion, is in no doubt Barty could make it as a professional. “She’s got all the tools if she wants to pursue it. If she put her mind to it, I’m sure she could,” she said. Barty also had a certain Tiger Woods gushing about her swing – I am not jealous, not at all.
Added to that she’s also played for the Brisbane Heat in the women’s Big Bash League – multi-talented doesn’t really do her justice.
Why do I mention this other than to remind myself it doesn’t seem fair that someone can be world-class in three sports? Well, the world No.1 faces Anna Blinkova on Centre Court this afternoon and it’s clear that the Russian will need all the luck she can grab on to.
Barty is the No.1 seed and, in the absence of Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka, favourite to win her second grand slam. Her first round match will have done her title bid no harm at all.
Having been given the “honour” of opening the women’s singles in the absence of reigning champion Halep, Barty came through a nervy start against Carla Suarez Navarro before really finding her stride in the third set. Whether she can carry that momentum over into her second round clash with Blinkova remains to be seen.
But the ultra talented Australian says she’s feeling good and is fully recovered from the hip injury that blighted her Roland Garros title defence.
”I think there was a little bit of nervousness, probably not knowing exactly how my body was going to feel genuinely. I know that I had full trust that we’d done absolutely everything that we could [but] you just never know. To be able to go out there today and play the way that I did was really nice.” Good luck to Blinkova, she may need it.
Stay here for all the action.
