The booming bass drum of a classic rock song thumped in your head as you gripped the cocktail glass in your hand. The liquid sloshed around in the glass as you danced, swaying to and fro with your best friends, trying your best to enjoy yourself on your girls’ night out. Your finals had just wrapped up, and you were this much closer to earning your masters, the only thing standing between you and getting that embossed sheet of paper, was your grades. To unwind after the cram sessions you’d mustered your way through for the past month, your friends dragged you out to some new amusement bar in the Gaslamp Quarter.
Across the bar, on the other side of the room, stood Bradley Bradshaw, a once promising baseball star who now, had earned himself a reputation as the MLB’s resident asshole - unable to take criticism or a loss without lashing out at someone. His recent stunt involved hurling his baseball bat across the diamond when he struck out in practice, frustrated with his sudden lack of skill, a skill that once came so naturally to him when his mind wasn’t preoccupied.
The invitation had come in the mail two days before the bat throwing incident. His ex-wife, the one who left him two and a half years ago, was remarrying the fucking prick she cheated on Bradley with. The invite had come completely out of the blue, and when Bradley opened it, he felt all of the air leave his lungs as his fingers traced over the gold embossed lettering, donning her name and the name of her new fiancé. He’d never admit it to anyone, but that single piece of cardstock had been enough to reduce him to tears, slumping down the kitchen wall as he hugged his knees to his chest, crying loud enough that it made him thankful he had no neighbours near by.
Bradley had pulled himself together, lit a cigarette from the pack he’d been nursing for the last few months, reserved only for social events and times of pure stress, and got in his vintage Ford Bronco, his first purchase when he signed his first contract. Taking a drag from the cigarette, his brown eyes scanned over San Diego’s downtown core as he cruised past a few of the typical nightlife spots - each one a little too public for what he wanted. All other options exhausted, he pulled up outside of a newer bar that had opened the previous week, neon lights advertising an arcade on one side and drinks on the other.
He figured if nothing else, a couple of rounds of Pac-Man on an old video game after a handful of beers might do him good. He could leave the Bronco parked there and walk to the hotel around the corner, and forget about how his ex-wife’s wedding was coming up in six months, how she’d had the audacity to invite him to see her marrying the guy he’d walked in on her with.
He sidled up to the bar, nodding his head to the bartender in thanks as he ordered himself a beer. Standing across from him was a group of women, not much younger than him, gossiping and giggling together. He sized the group up, thinking to himself that maybe a one-night deal was what he needed to take his mind off his ex.
You were the tallest girl of the group, with bright eyes, and hair brushed back in a sleek, high ponytail, sporting a form-fitting cocktail dress that made Bradley’s heart race when he saw you. He pounded back the rest of his beer, trying to find his confidence in himself once again in the comfort of the drink.
Bradley set his empty bottle down on the bar top before walking his way around the circular counter. He rested his elbow on the bar, leaning in with a broad smile as you looked in his direction. He offered a polite wave of his hand, chuckling awkwardly as he felt his confidence wavering as he spoke to you.
“Hey, could I buy you a drink? He said simply, his Virginian accent dropping into a thicker drawl than usual.
“I’m good, thanks, still got one,” You held up your half-full glass and shook your head politely, not wanting to reject him too brutally.
Bradley nodded his head once at you, his smile faltering for a second. He quickly regained himself, smiling once again politely before grabbing himself another beer and heading over to the arcade, resolving that a couple of old-school video games might make his night a little better.
It wasn’t that he wasn’t used to rejection - he’d been turned down almost as often as he’d been accepted, but for some reason, your rejection stung just that little bit more. Maybe it was the wedding invitation still making things sour, or maybe it was the fact that the mere sight of a girl hadn’t been enough to make his heart accelerate like this in a long time. He shook his head once, trying to focus his train of thought once again on something, anything other than what was currently occupying it.
Baseball? Too stressful, his game was starting to slip up on him. Buying a puppy? No, it’d just be one more thing he could let down. Hitting the gym? He already went 6 days a week - if he went any more frequently, he’d have to consider moving his bed in there.
His mind raced as he pressed the buttons on the video game, moving the small yellow circle across the screen, collecting points between sips of beer. Behind him, he heard a couple of guys shouting at a tv screen, the sound of the latest sports highlights blaring out in the background.
“This Bradshaw asshole needs to get his shit together. Twenty-nine and he plays about as well as my ten year old. Drop him down to the minors or get rid of the bastard. He shouldn’t be missing plays like this.” One of the voices shouted at the tv, his friends nodding their heads in silent agreement with his rant.
Bradley felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand at attention as the insults about his playing continued to spout from this guy’s mouth. He couldn’t have been much older than Bradley was, one of those armchair commentators who probably hadn’t swung a bat since Little League. As the criticism continued, each jab focused directly at Bradley’s game performance, missing one play that cost a game - one that he’d already been feeling pissed off about - it became harder to ignore.
“I bet that hot little piece of ass wife of his left him because she knew he was a dogshit baseball player.”
Bradley spun around on his heels so fast that he swore the room was spinning. He turned to face the group, crowded in a corner in front of the tv, faces all glued to the female commentator. Bradley could practically hear the derogatory thoughts they were having about her and it only fuelled his anger more.
“Hey, man, if you’ve got an issue with how I play the game, I’d like to see you get off your ass and go play nine innings against Boston. Keep my ex-wife’s name out of your mouth.” Bradley scoffed, narrowing his dark brown eyes at the trio.
“You got a problem, jackass?” The other man growled, raising an eyebrow at Bradley as he slammed his drink down on the table. “She probably left you for that rookie because even she knew you weren’t good for anything.”
“That so? Your wife would probably like to go a couple rounds with me though.” Bradley retorted, a devilish smirk forming on his face as he folded his muscular arms across his chest.
Before Bradley had time to blink, the man drew back his arm and landed a hard punch to Bradley’s jaw. Bradley quickly delivered a stronger hit to the man’s face, watching him stumble backwards for a second. Bradley turned around and walked outside, getting ready to light another cigarette as he ran his hand over his jaw, assessing if he had any damage to worry about.
The man returned, practically running outside after Bradley. More heated words were exchanged, insults flying between them both before the man delivered another hit, this time to Bradley’s nose. He shook his hand off and headed off down the street with his friends, disappearing off to the next bar. Bradley held his nose, blood dripping down from his nostrils and onto his hand.
You and your friends had heard the commotion when it unfolded inside, and decided to head out, having enough excitement for one night. As you stepped out, you saw the man who’d hit on you earlier, this time with his nose bleeding onto the pavement under him. You ran over to him, raising an eyebrow.
“What did you do, hit on a girl who had a boyfriend?” You asked playfully as you rooted through your purse for something to help clean his nose.
“Called a guy out for saying my ex-wife was a “hot piece of ass”, actually,” Bradley nodded once, gratefully taking the tissues from you and using them to clean his nose.
“Stick your hand out for a sec,” you instructed, squirting a dollop of scented hand sanitizer into his large palm before raising an eyebrow at him, “You don’t have anything I could catch from helping you without gloves?”
“What the hell is that suppose to mean?” Bradley scoffed, trying to laugh but wincing instead, “And why the fuck does my hand smell like a flower?”
“Lavender hand sanitizer. It’s not as good as washing your hands, but it’ll do while we’re outside. And I’m going to hold the tissues in place while you rub it into your hands, but I don’t want to catch something. I’m just fresh out of latex gloves.”
“Good thing. I’m allergic,” he laughed, shrugging his shoulders as he tried to brave through the pain, “I’m clean. You’re fine. I get drug tested and physicals through work constantly.”
“What kind of a job provides those? Military?”
“Professional athlete.” He nodded as you pinched the tissues to his nose, applying pressure to help with the bleeding. “Fuck, that hurts.”
“Your nose is broken, it’s suppose to hurt.”
“What are you, a doctor?”
“No, just wrote my finals for a masters in nursing.”
“Close enough,” Bradley nodded slightly, cringing as you continued to apply pressure to his nose.
You rooted through your purse, laughing softly as you pulled a tampon out of your bag. Bradley raised an eyebrow at you, not quite registering what the item was until you pulled the plastic wrapping off of it, stuffing the garbage back into your purse.
“What the fuck do you plan on doing with that?”
“I need to stick it up your nose on the left side. It’s bleeding more than I’d like to see, and a broken nose should probably be set in a medical setting. This way, you won’t bleed all over my car.”
“Your car? You’ve been drinking.”
“Half a vodka-cran over the span of three hours? I think I’m probably not gonna blow over the limit.”
“You are not sticking that up my nose,” he replied stubbornly, arms folding over his chest like a petulant child.
“Look at your shirt,” you laughed, gesturing to the white floral print button down he was wearing, its collar now tinged with red and pink splotches.
“Fine,” he said with a reluctant sigh, “but if anyone finds out about this, I’m denying it.”
“Your secret’s safe with me,” you nodded as you offered him the plastic applicator.
Bradley rolled his eyes and reluctantly pressed the bottom of the applicator, pushing the tampon into the edge of his nose. He looked at you with another dramatic eyeroll and shook his head before walking down the street to a garbage can. He discarded the applicator before turning to face you, sighing.
“I can take myself to a hospital, you know.”
“I’m already here, I may as well come with you. Besides, I feel kinda bad about turning you down.”
“Oh, so you’re taking care of me out of pity?” He teased, raising an eyebrow.
“Maybe. Even more so with a tampon hanging out of your nose.”
“It’s quite the fashion statement, isn’t it?” He laughed softly, unbuttoning his dress shirt. He shrugged the shirt off his shoulders, revealing a clean white t-shirt.
You unlocked your car, the familiar beep as the doors unlocked causing Bradley to stifle a laugh.
“What is that?!”
“My car,” you responded matter-of-factly, “What does it look like?”
“One of those cars for a Barbie doll that my goddaughter plays with,” he said as he flourished his hand, gesturing to your pink steering wheel cover and coordinating seat cover.
“Listen, I like pink. Now are you getting in, or do I have to make you?”
Bradley’s eyes widened for a moment, your playful threat of making him get into the car sending his mind into a frenzy again. He eyed you up and down again, and found himself shaking his head as he wondered what colour underwear you had on under your dress. He bet it was probably a coordinating pink set - the kind that Victoria’s Secret mannequins would model in the store window, with delicate little bows or lace or something adorning them.
Focus, Bradley. She doesn’t want to sleep with you. Stop thinking about her.
He sat down in the passenger’s seat, watching as you hopped into the driver’s side. As you pulled away from the curb, he raised an eyebrow at your choice in music as Taylor Swift started blaring from the speaker.
“You can change it if you want to,” you nodded. “You can put on whatever.”
“No, no, It’s fine. I actually like this song.”
“You said you’re a professional athlete? What sport do you play?”
“Baseball,” he said, slowly nodding his head, “my headshot’s on a flag outside of Petco Park.”
“I thought I recognized you, you’re that player everyone always talks about, right?”
“Unfortunately. It’s rarely good things.”
“How come?”
Bradley sighed, raising an eyebrow, “You know they talk about me but not why?”
“I don’t follow baseball, I've actually never even seen a game, live or on tv. I just know my friend does and she told me everyone talks about you. Bradshaw, right? Number 10?”
“Yeah, that’s me. Bradley Bradshaw. First baseman, used to have a promising career, then, you know, wife cheats on me with a rookie from a rival team, catch her in a hotel room that I paid for with him, and then, despite me stupidly telling her I forgave her and you know what, I was pissed, but I loved her anyway and I blamed myself for her cheating, she served me divorce papers. Said I was incapable of loving anything but baseball. Says the woman who refused to do anything with me when I tried to be loving and affectionate. My friends swear she only married me for the status and the paycheck. Her new fiancé just signed a multi-million dollar contract that’s being talked about as one of the highest in the league, so it sort of checks out.”
“Jeez,” you whistled, shaking your head, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. It was two and half years ago. I just, I haven’t found my stride again yet, I guess.”
“Is that why you got defensive about her?”
“They said she left me for this other guy because she knew I was a dogshit ball player. I mean, it’s probably not far off. But, I got an invite for her wedding in the mail today, and I was already on edge, so I sort of…snapped.”
“She invited you?!”
“Yeah, like that, huh? She probably thought I have someone new I’m seeing and that we could still be friends or some shit.”
“So you need a date?”
“I’m not going,” he said firmly, shaking his head. “I’m not going.”
“Why not? Free drinks for a night, you can wish her well while secretly hoping her husband’s ball career washes out on him in a year or two.”
Bradley chuckled, shrugging his shoulders as he gestured his hand towards you, “I like your thinking actually, but I’m not going alone.”
“I’ll go with you,” you offered, shrugging your shoulders, “When is it?”
“In six months, you don’t need to come with me though. I’ll send her some cheap gift and call it a day.”
“No,” you insisted as you pulled into a parking space at the hospital’s urgent care clinic, “I’ll come with you. I love a good revenge story. Besides, it could be fun. I’ve never partied with a bunch of baseball players before.”
“You’re…you’re something else, you know that?”
“You mean, you don’t have dozens of women offering you a tampon to stop your nosebleed, driving you to the hospital and then offering to accompany you to your ex-wife’s wedding date?” you challenged.
“Can’t say that I do, no.”
“Well, I’m honoured to be your first.”
Bradley couldn’t help his ear to ear grin as he followed you into the hospital. Despite his bloodied, battered nose, which was hurting more than he cared to let on, and his fledging career, falling apart around him as he stood there, he felt genuinely excited. Excited to get to know you better. Excited to see where things went with you. He felt a promising sense in your words - like maybe, just maybe, he might be able to be done with one-night-stands and empty beds in the morning. He felt giddy, like a teenager going on a first date with his high school crush. He wasn’t sure if it was the pain from his nose or the alcohol talking, but he was almost convinced you were a guardian angel of sorts. Refusing to believe that someone like you could be anything but.
First things first though, he needed to bring you to a baseball game.

people, I just HAVE to disagree with your arguments that Dean and Cas would be going to Hawaii or California. I’m sorry to speak the truth, but they ARE honeymooning in Florida. My reasoning:
Dean hates to fly and spending hours trapped on a plane to Hawaii having a panic attack is not his idea of a good vacation.
I considered the idea of them getting a cruise to Hawaii, but I honestly believe that Cas would get seasick because when has he EVER been on a boat? Plus if you think Florida is tacky, then I’m not sure why a cruise would be preferable
California would be the better option, of course, and I think under normal circumstances that’s where they would go. But you have to take into consideration the time of year. As of making this post, the weather in San Diego is 61 degrees fahrenheit and partly cloudy. Not a bad day, no! But I don’t think it’s quite the toes-in-the-sand beach weather that Dean is envisioning (then again I’m from Texas and I find 60 chilly, so maybe I’m biased)
meanwhile the temperature in Fort Lauderdale is 82 degrees fahrenheit. PERFECT weather for lounging on the beach sipping cocktails
also, yes, Dean and Cas are spiritually old men and they WOULD get tacky souvenirs and Dean would constantly say “island time” even though they’re nowhere near an island

📓 - Marrish, naturally. ;)
okay--i briefly thought about doing this for marrish week but absolutely ran out of time to execute it properly, so--
the day before his second deployment, jordan is sitting alone in a cafe patio. he was supposed to be meeting up with his best friend for one last night out until said best friend's long-time crush apparently decided to confess his love seventeen hours before they were leaving the country (jordan's fine with it--derek's in his unit, it's not like he'll be missing him, he'll be missing relatively cool weather and fruity cocktail drinks and the ability to eat whatever the hell he wants)--so now he's just sitting alone and people watching. he watches the kid that tears his pizza crust into small bites and throw it into the street for the birds, the older couple who hold hands loosely across the table as they talk, and the redhead who is currently having some sort of harsh whispered fight into the phone three feet from him on the other side of the gate.
drama has always drawn him in; he can't help but eavesdrop when she sucks in an unforgiving breath and hisses "i knew you would do this. i need your help for one thing and you decide today is the day you run off to london? my mom already suspects i'm lying, what am i supposed to say now? i just want to get them off my back, jackson."
his check comes and he loses thread of her side of the conversation while he makes small talk with the waitress and tries to talk her out of comping part of his meal when she hears he's deploying, and by the time he can look over at the redhead again she straights up, shakes her shoulders, and marches across the street and into a bar. he watches her through the window until she's lead away to a table, and then--without thinking too much about it--follows.
because walking up to her table and dropping into the seat next to her with a grin and a "hey, sweetheart," is probably one of the dumbest things he's ever done, but he figures it makes for a good story and if it's goes horribly, well--he'll be out of the country for the next two years anyway, so he may as well turn to the couple he assumes are her parents and add, "sorry i'm late, my c.o. had a bunch of pre-deployment stuff to go over. nice to meet you, i'm jordan."
her eyebrow raises, just the slightest bit of surprise, but then she's leaning in and he's wrapped up in her arms, her hair brushing against his cheek when she pulls out of the embrace and kisses him soundly. she keeps the conversation centered on him for most of the dinner, though once her dad starts asking about his military career it's not difficult to do. he doesn't even know her name until they're ordering dessert, and when they stand up to leave she tugs him back down for one more drink, watches her parents walk out the door and then turns towards him.
"you're insane," she says, "and i can't tell you how much i appreciate that. how much of what you just said was the truth?"
all of it, he tells her, except for the parts he'd made up that involved her. "it's my last night, might as well do something crazy," he explains, and grins at her when he adds, "and you're pretty, so i had to take a shot."
lydia asks him a few more questions--what sorts of things he likes (dive bars and shooting ranges, running trails in la jolla and getting fresh seafood) and what he doesn't (anything spicy--derek makes fun of him for it but jordan doesn't let it bother him), the things he's been able to see while he was stationed in san diego (a lot of baseball) and what he'd never gotten around to (sailing), then sends him up to the bar to get them another drink while she makes a phone call. when he returns with a whiskey sour and a gin and tonic she smiles widely at him and tells him to drink up. "i can do you one better than sailing," she says, "my best friend's dad owns a boat and she's calling the club and asking them to get it ready for us. ready for a sunset cruise?"
(it's not a boat, it's a frickin' yacht. the cruise also doesn't end at sunset; she kisses him just as the sun dips below the horizon and leads him to one of the bedrooms, and that's where they stay until it rises again the next morning.)
ask me for an unwritten fic daydream

My Short Career In The Hospitality Industry
Tumblr media
San Diego was a happening place back in the 1970s. A lot cheaper and a lot less crowded than it is now. Regular people could afford to live at the beach. It was then, as it still is today, full of beautiful young people because for our size we had more than our share of universities and a hot job market. Add to that an all year round tourist destination and it was the place to be.
The job to have for a young single man who was going to college during the day was bartender. He could make a ton of money working nights and if he was young and good-looking working those conventions full of optometrists and accountants at conferences without their husbands who have had a few too many drinks and the next thing you know its “here’s my room number cowboy if you’re up for some fun later”. As you might imagine it was tough to get those jobs because you had to “know somebody”. That usually meant coming up through ranks at one of the big hotels. That’s where we come in.
I started out as a “barback”. You know the guy who cuts the limes and arranges everything at the bar stations Then once the event started he watched the bartender and learned like an apprentice. There was a main bartender and two sub-bartender and six waitresses. The bartenders were all men. The waitstaff were all women. The men were in charge without question. Even we lowly bar backs could boss the girls around.
If I played my cards right in eighteen months or two years I could be a bartender and work anywhere in the world, at a hotel or on a cruise ship. It was a career. It was fun. Not very hard. Cash money. Lots of hot cocktail waitresses. Lots of hot tourist girls. Booze. Joints at work. The hotels were about ten minutes from my school and my apartment.
It all fell apart when I discovered two things about myself. I could not steal. I was too proud to take tips. I know weird. I’m in hospitality training to be a bartender and I’m okay if somebody LEAVES a tip but I can’t ACCEPT one. My entire life’s training has trained me not to take something in return for a kindness. Also, I do not take charity. If it feels that I am being tipped because I am poor and they are wealthy, my working class hackles go up and I think: “my people were kings in Caledonia once. I do not want your charity.”
The stealing? Once I was accepted as one of the guys I was introduced to a custom. The bartenders and barbacks skimmed from the pooled tips of the waitresses taking about 1/4 of it. I refused to take my share. That made me suspect and I was soon fired on trumped-up charges.
Fired for being too honest. Put that one in your journal, Sammy.

Barnaby sent me this pic he took of our boy Oliver one of the times he stayed with us. He - like me - had an extra special connection to Oliver and loved hanging out with him.  Even though we have a dedicated guest room, Barnaby would never sleep there. He'd stay up long after we'd crash (all night?) drawing and listening to music, and having a few beers and/or cocktails. Oliver would stay and hang with him, no doubt a trusted confidant during those all-nighters. He always asked about "the crew" and genuinely cared about our creatures. That always meant a lot to me.
I have SO many amazingly touching and hilarious stories, and am supremely grateful for every one of them. I cannot, though, remember exactly when or where I finally met him. I've racked my brain, and I just can't recall. And this fact was making me extra sad. And then I realized: I am sure that I felt like I knew him long before we met, through the many, many stories Jeff would tell me about him.  I would come to know him as this extraordinary man, and we would go on to develop our own unique and special friendship. Jeff and Barnaby had such a neat relationship. While he's never said it, I think Barnaby was a lot like a brother Jeff never had. They are both very loyal and very committed friends, so when two like-hearted souls like theirs meet, well, the rest is history. It was a delight to behold. I am doubly crushed for Jeff.
One of the last times we hung out was in Chicago. I think because we had always loved having him here at our place in San Diego, he was intent on putting us up at his place. It felt so great to get to spend a ton of one-on-one time with him over that weekend. He took us to Dove's for brunch/lunch (and to Big Star for micheladas during the wait for a table at Dove's). I'll never forget getting in the car to head over there, though. He had this teeny little fiat car.  As we were about to get in, he had to make room for us by taking a full on sewing machine out of the back seat. A sewing machine? Who ever knew what he was getting in to. Right on brand.
I just cannot believe he is gone. I cannot believe there will be no more hugs, no more laughs with him. He always had a way of popping up - the last time I saw him in Denver he cruised into the hotel bar I was in, fresh from the airport carrying what looked like a typewriter case (his suitcase?). We had a drink and he went to go check in as he was also staying there (awesome, I thought!). Not so fast: he came back a few minutes later and he'd apparently booked his room for the wrong dates. No hotel room for GABF weekend? He wasn't phased in the least. No one who knows him has any doubt that he made the absolute best of it.
Love you Barnabeast. Always will.

The 45-year-old model’s stylist, Rob Zangardi, originally got the jacket as a gift for Cara Delevingne, but Klum fell in love with it, so he gave it to her instead!

Workouts were on the brain of Hollywood's elite as well.
Jordana Brewster enjoyed a day at the horse stable with her family in Los Angeles last week, where she exclusively revealed her favorite go-to beauty trends to ET. "I love Fascia massages. They really get deep into your muscles, even more than a deep tissue massage. This massage really helps stretch your muscles when you are tight and extra sore," the 38-year-old actress, who works out six days a week, explained. “I am also loving dry brushing because it really gets your circulation and lymphatic system going." The Lethal Weapon star also revealed that "allergies are a challenge all year round" for her.  "Whether I’m heading to the Farmers Market with my kids or trying to exercise outdoors, my runny nose and watery eyes can be really disruptive, but, thankfully, I take ZYRTEC to give me consistent allergy relief," she added.

European Christmas Markets
Tumblr media
Life only comes around once, so do what makes you happy, and be around those who make you smile.
I started my Christmas vacation by Making Miracles Happen at Rady Children’s Hospital 8th Annual Holiday of Miracles Radiothon. I headed to San Diego International Airport to board Lufthansa airlines with my TSA PreCheck and Viking Cruise documents in hand and landed in Barcelona.  Only one piece of my luggage arrived but was assured it would be delivered to the ship the next day.  After much anticipation I was greeted with champagne on the well-appointed Viking Star where Lynn was already checked into our spacious deluxe veranda stateroom.
Our Iconic Cities of the Western Mediterranean Christmas journey has begun.
Tumblr media
  Bienvenido Barcelona, Spain
Tumblr media
It was late and raining but we headed over to The Christmas Markets in front of La Sagrada Familia Cathedral.  They were closing so we strolled along Las Ramblas enjoying the tapas bars and ended the evening at La Taverna de Barcelona which was a fun Irish pub.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We left Barcelona for our first port of call Marseille but due to inclement weather we changed course to Toulon. I was informed my luggage would be sent to the next port of call.  We changed course again and was going to enjoy a day at sea.
This was our first time on the intimate all-inclusive #1 Ocean Cruise Line.  The ship was not over-the-top. It was thoughtful, authentic and well-designed small ship experience that bring you closer to the world cultures.  I did miss not having a casino but was pleased there was no nickel and diming during the voyage.  I jumped in the glassed-in-shower, sleek styling, plenty of storage, Freyja toiletries and the biggest indulgence of all –heated tile floors and towel racks.  I want to replicate this bathroom at home.  We spent the afternoon enjoying serene Scandinavian spaces.  We headed over to the heated main pool and hot tub with the retractable dome so we could swim and soak even though it was raining.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We indulged in the spa a soothing sanctuary of Nordic wellness.  We unwound in the sauna and refreshed in the snow grotto.  We renewed body and spirit with a Swedish massage and left feeling recharged and refreshed.
Tumblr media
We enjoyed late afternoon tea served at the Wintergarden with finger sandwiches, richly textures scones and decadent desert accompanied by a soft string quartet.  So relaxing Lynn feel asleep.  After cocktails we changed for dinner.
Tumblr media
Dinning here is a culinary journey – a marriage of cultural enrichment, gastronomic exploration and local cuisine.   The sommeliers and culinary masters at The Chef’s Table create the perfect paring of food and wine.  During a multicourse tasting, they pour select vintages and serve thoughtfully prepared dished made for each other.  We ended the evening enjoying the Viking art and listening to the resident pianist
Tumblr media
Bonjour St. Tropez, France
Funday Sunday jet-setting in Provencal playground of Saint Tropez!  Stunning port lined with old-world facades and extravagant yachts. We met a new friend Sandra from the ship on our complimentary St. Tropez promenade tour. After the tour we walked around Port Grimaud and the three of us enjoyed a delicious lunch at Café de Paris and then went site seeing, shopping and ice skating.  We warmed up with a yummy cup of cappuccino before heading back to the ship.  I would love to return to this port in the spring.

Accueil Monte Carlo, Monaco (still no luggage)
Tumblr media
A sparkling gem of the French Riviera, the chic city of Monte Carlo in the petite kingdom of Monaco boasts some of the world’s most exclusive-shopping and a beautiful old port.  We started our walking tour through the heart of the medieval quarter of Monaco, known as The Rock.  The views of the Mediterranean and the harbor lined with mega-yachts was spectacular.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We headed uphill to Main Square the Place du Palais.  The Prince’s Palace of Monaco, home of the Grimaldi since 1875.  This is the burial site of the royal family, including Grace Kelly. We were able to view the changing of the guard outside the palace walls. We enjoyed a cappuccino, shops and left the group after visiting St. Nicholas Cathedral.

My highlight was having lunch in the city’s most visited gem the world-renowned Monte Carlo Casino, the peak of European prestige and glamour. I stayed to make a contribution and Lynn went shopping. I was disappointed I didn’t have my fabulous outfit for this port. Maybe next time I will be here for the Grand Prix.

Buongiorno Livorno (Florence), Italy (still no luggage)
Tumblr media
With its rolling vistas sprawling vineyards, beautiful Tuscany is known equally as the cradle of the Renaissance and a center of culinary delight and astounding wines.  We were the envy of our fellow passengers because we made advance arrangements to spend the night in Florence.  We purchased the Florence On Your Own for transportation and explored on our own.  My first stop was a prearranged lunch and hotel tour. Location, Location, Location. The magnificent Hotel Brunelleschi is situated in prime location in the historical center, just 50 meters from the Duomo, 100 meters from the Uffizi Gallery and five minutes from the main museums and most popular shopping streets.  What a unique experience to view the Brunelleschi’s dome from your room. Lunch was a delicious typical Tuscan menu  The hotel tells the story of its home city through the various different style it contains, from the heritage of ancient Rome to the pomp and splendor of the 19th century, without failing to offer sophisticated interiors designed to satisfy contemporary taste.  Luxury and Style…What a find.

After lunch I did some major shopping while Lynn went sightseeing.    We met back at the Grand Hotel Cavour to change for dinner.  Upon arrival we were upgraded and invited to a breakfast meeting.  Visiting the different booths at the Christmas market was a lot of fun.  The city was magical with all the decorations.  We enjoyed the variety of booths at the Christmas market, The Church of Santa Croce and Piazza Della Signora.  Lynn treated me to a fun evening at Trattoria del Pennello.  We ended the evening with cocktails on the Divina terrazza at Grand Hotel Cavour.  The Brunelleschi’s Dome seemed close enough to touch.  It is the most fascinating sight of Florence that you could ever image.

We met for breakfast and received a late checkout so we could take our time at the Uffizi gallery.  I think this is a great hotel for millennials it is a nice combination on new and old.  I plan on returning with my niece next year.  We walked over to the Uffizi gallery, shopped at Ponte Vecchio, drank astounding wine and enjoyed culinary delights. We headed back to meet with our tour group and return to the ship.  Unfortunately still no luggage and time to depart ship in Rome.  They said they would send my luggage to our hotel in Vienna.  Ended the evening at the piano bar saying good bye to new friends listening to classical music.

    Ciao Rome, Italy

Lynn secured a driver with Rome Driving Tours to take us on a fun packed afternoon to the Bernini hot spots in Rome: Borghese Gallery and 4 Rivers Fountain.  Then added Spanish Steps and some shopping before our flight.  We both scored at Louis Vuitton.

  Vienna, Austria

The evening commenced with music in the airport and checking in at the Hilton Vienna Plaza.  We were greeted by Christmas Time Franz providing special Christmas cookies. Lynn called it a night and I went out in the amazing city in the cold and enjoyed an Italian dinner.

   Guten Tag Salzburg, Austria
Tumblr media
The birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, is dominated by churches, castles and palace.  Its picturesque old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tumblr media
Early morning wake up call to spend the day on a small-group Salzburg excursion.  Our magical wonderful day started with a yummy breakfast at Landzeit.  We left with Salzburg Christmas cookies and apples strudel as we watched the Sound of Music on the way to visit a series of Christmas markets in the scenic Salzburg.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The landscape changed from city streets to scenic country side and we were able to see the Austria Alps in the distance. We played in the snow, listened to Christmas Carolers and filled our souvenir cups with some Christmas punch at each Christmas market. We walked among animated Nativity scenes and perused the markets seasonal offerings, such as ornaments, gingerbread and handcrafted toys.

We visited Salzburg Cathedral
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our highlight was eating lunch in St. Peter Stiftskulinarium restaurant 803 A.D. Europe’s oldest restaurant.  We created our own special moment by eating Weiner schnitzel, drinking world-class wine and taking in the historic ambiance.

     Willkommen Vienna, Austria
Tumblr media
I enjoyed researching their rich history and scored by becoming a member of Vienna Experts Club International. Vienna is described as Europe’s’ cultural capital, is a metropolis with unique charm, vibrancy and flair.  A romantically Imperial City: It is a dream city for anyone with a romantic streak or interest in history. A city of culture, music, and art. A great way to see the whole city is to take the Vienna Ring Tram (circuit of the Ringstrasse).
Tumblr media
Visiting Vienna’s Christmas markets at night is magical.  I was no longer dreaming for a white Christmas with sleigh bells in the snow at the Frohe Weihnachten Christmas market.  We enjoyed listening to the choirs singing carols, glistening lights, delicious aromas, seasonal treats and Gluhwein.  We purchased traditional handcrafted goods, elaborate Christmas decorations and special culinary delights in the decorated market stalls. We ended in a Vienna Coffee House Café Sacher Wien and enjoyed a sacher torte. An evening I will always cherish.

Our last day was nonstop lots to see and do. It began in the city center picking up our tickets. We maximized our time at Schonbrunn Palace with skip-the-line entry tickets. “The summer residence of the imperial family, one of Europe’s most impressive Baroque palace complexes.” We explored the extensive gardens but did not enjoy a Palace Concert.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We enjoyed Sisi’s museum at the Imperial Palace (Hofburg).  Belvedere Palace was full of history and culture.  Master works included iconic piece by Klimt, Rodin and Monet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Outside the palace we purchased art and gifts at the Austria Shop.  It was cold and dark but we felt safe walking around this amazing city with friendly people.

The State Opera House was beautiful next time we will enjoy a show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We lit a candle in St. Stephen’s Cathedral and walked around Stephenplatz.

Our final dinner was at Cantinetta Antinori.

Totally exhausted and under the weather we headed back to the Hilton Vienna Plaza to pack.  Lynn went out in the rain to purchase some medicine and helped me pack with all my new purchases. She shared her clothes with me making losing luggage seamless.  I am so blessed to have a fabulous, spontaneous, adventurist friend to accompany me on this Christmas journey.  She is decisive, adapts well, funny, curious, inquisitive and a whole lot of fun.  I am looking forward to our next adventure.

I arrived home late Christmas Eve to spend the holiday with my beautiful niece.  (Still no luggage)

Floating Day Clubs, A Dinner Cruise on Steroids
Tumblr media
A Southern California entrepreneur and Mission Beach area resident, Brad Hunter is disrupting the luxury hospitality industry on a national level with an entirely uncharted concept: AQUAlounge, an innovative floating nautical experience slated to debut in San Diego in fall of 2020. Custom designed to be unlike anything currently on the water, the process to receive permitting and approvals charted unmapped territory for the United States Coast Guard and the City of San Diego. It was an arduous, multi-year undertaking for AQUAlounge’s President, Brad Hunter, who saw success in the wireless industry before making the unexpected shift into hospitality. “When I started down this path six years ago, my goal was to completely rethink everything about the bay and dinner cruise space–the layout, the experience, the ambiance,” says Hunter. “I found inspiration on my travels. With so many amazing new dining and entertainment experiences emerging around the world, it feels good to be a part of that revolution and to bring something unique back to San Diego.” At 3,900-square-feet, the build out of AQUAlounge is projected at $5 million, and construction is scheduled to begin in February of 2020. “Designing and building a vessel so far from the industry standards has certainly created a fair amount of challenges,” says Hunter, who is working with a team of nautical design specialists including Marine Group Boat Works, Marine Design and Drafting, and Directions in Design to build his vision. The indoor-outdoor, three-level floating vessel will feature year-round public and private events, as well as annual membership options. Guests may enjoy a variety of seating arrangements, two bars, as well as private cabanas and daybeds offering bottle service and other 5-star experiences. Hunter also has plans for a robust dining program in partnership with San Diego’s top restaurants and caterers. On-board entertainment will embrace advanced tech-forward features including synchronized light shows incorporating a fleet of drones, interactive displays, and top-of-the-line lighting, audio and visual components to enhance performances with DJs, live music and unique artistic displays. With the ability to cover and heat all areas, AQUAlounge will ensure a comfortable guest experience while sipping cocktails, dining or relaxing on the water. AQUAlounge marks a pivotal step forward within a virtually untapped sector of the hospitality industry, and its projected timeline will make it one of the first–if not the first–concept of its kind in North America. Hunter aims to set the bar for floating day clubs at a time when business and trend forecasters have projected strong potential within the new category. One similar concept of note was announced by Lebua Hotels & Resorts, whose Bangkok-based day club, Float, is also estimated to launch in 2020, according to Forbes. Hunter sees potential for future expansion, but considers San Diego the ideal market for launch given its annual visitor count of 35.8 million who spend $11.5 billion on average. “Mission Bay is the largest man-made aquatic recreation area in the world, entertaining 15 million visitors annually,” says Hunter. “The area has the best year-round weather in the country, a lively hospitality scene, and breathtaking bay views, yet there are no viable options for enjoying great food, drink and entertainment on the water…it feels like a very exciting opportunity.” AQUAlounge has partnered with Mission Bay’s leading hotel property Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina to provide docking services, as AQUAlounge plans to operate within San Diego’s Mission Bay waters.
