The Minrathous air never brought Sire any comfort, Minrathous was a blood soaked nightmare and it's people starved by the upper class. It always made Sire angry and sad, even the most crooked crook didn't deserve what the people of Minrathous got. Which is why he pulled his dearest Laika close, petting her head instinctively. "You promise me that you'll come back in one piece, Laika, you promise me." It wasn't often Laika went where Sire couldn't follow but some cases, Laika must handle herself. It was apar of growing up, watching your loved ones walk into the vortex and Sire knew Charon and herself had a deep bond but not one that would permit such insanely open affection, not out in the open. He kisses her head, his thumbs caressing her cheeks. Sire knew full well that Laika was a fighter, she could take care of herself and then some but it didn't stop the worry, it never did. Sire didn't have to be her parent to care, he was her friend. "You come straight back, no getting distracted with curiosity-" Something Sire would usually encourage. " I will stay up worrying about you if you don't and I'll give you a new lump on your damn head for it too." Sire hugged her tightly, before sighing. " Let the waters watch over you, rain or river, sea or lake. The tide ever on your side...Now go.." He nods to the large, bustling city outside the humble home Sire spent his days in. " Show them what Laika is made of." Bravery, Sire thought. My laika is forged of bravery.

THE SHADOWS STRECH ACROSS HER FACE,  and Laika does her best to lean back into them.  It was where she felt most comfortable, embraced in darkness and shade.  Where Sire feels the bleeding gross, the underdark of it all, Laika sees her city.  Her people, sorrow drawn into their faces and pain shaking their hands; her streets, bustling and full to the brim, the coblestones loose underneath leather sole shoes. 

For once, when Sire drags her into an embrace, she does not fight it ( much. )  Instinct makes her stiffen; and it is her mind that tells her to relax, to press herself into his touch.  The kiss on her forehead makes her nose scrunch up, “ You mother hen, ” she chides, half laughter.  Laika's feet dangle off the ground a few inches, and she playfully kicks at the air, careful to not make actual contact.

“ There will be no dalliance, ” she confirms, once finally on the ground.  She readies herself for disapperance, crimson hood slung over her head, and mask tightened around her face.  “ I've one target, and one target only; every imperialist bastard that sees me between here and home will taste steel, and where steel won't suffice, saltpeter will do the trick. 'Course, it's sad that I'm not often caught.  ”  There were so many fun things to do with bombs and a Venatori.  But she would not let Sire miss her for long — it would be a shame, to make the mother hen crow and caw until the sun set and rose once more.  Laika returns the affection with her cloth-covered nose, pressed against his. 

“ As my kind say: no mourners, no funerals. ”
