This is a post about exercise.

With the weather changing, my routines are changing, but I hope to stay active. I don’t know if I’m getting stronger or if I have more stamina. I don’t think I look different. Moving around and doing something for myself feels good. Also, the gamification on Apple Fitness is compelling. I am a little concerned by how well the gamification works on me. But at the moment I think those powers are being used for good.

Monday, I had a lot of work to do in the garden, so I set my workout timer to “other” and went about bending and hauling and lunging for almost two hours. I wasn’t able to also get in a dance workout for International Dance Day, which I was a little sad about, but I am glad I prioritized the things I did. I thought I would be sore the next day, but I wasn’t, so either exercise is helping or I didn’t work as hard as I thought.

Tuesday I got back to dancing. Dance Trainer LaShawn is back. They have been having trainers for other sports join Jhon and Ben in dance workouts, which has been neat. I don’t know why LaShawn was out, it’s none of my or any of our business. I’m glad she is back. The International Dance Day workout got a bunch of trainers in the room arranged in three chorus lines led by LaShawn, kind of like the Yoga Day workout they did a year or two ago. It was kind of weirdly emotional, which goes to show how good Apple is at arranging human experiences to keep you coming back.

Yesterday was nice weather and I had some flexibility in my schedule, so I did this week’s Time to Walk with marine biologist Ayanna Elizabeth Johnson. It was just the thing for half an hour. I wonder if there was a transcript, she said some quotable things. I tried listening to the Dolly Parton Time to Walk a few weeks ago, but maybe my headphones were glitchy or maybe the workout didn’t download properly, but the audio kept cutting out. Maybe it works better to stick to the top of the stack. While I was on my walk, I took some pictures. I’ll post those in a bit.

This made me think about how the “cultural noise” was overwhelmingly surrounding Will’s feelings for Mike not his sexuality alone, but it's interesting how Shawn doesn't frame it that way and neither do the Duffers, and this is something they’ve done consistently. Whenever they’re discussing Will's arc for s5, the pressing situation that it's Mike he's in love with and Mike who's a huge part of Will's sexuality arc is just not addressed. They purposefully gloss over how his romantic feelings for his best friend are obviously a massive if not the biggest conflict in Will's arc. It’s like they're avoiding any acknowledgment of Mike’s role in this storyline—instead using vague terms like ‘emotional arc’ (which largely translates to his feelings for Mike)—because as soon as they even slightly imply that Will’s journey doesn’t exist in a vaccum and actually heavily involves and will impact other characters (aka Mike), the questions will start rolling in, questions they can’t answer. Not without spoiling anyway. So they just…don’t address the elephant in the room and thus most viewers make the assumption, taking the non-confirmation as confirmation, that it’s unrequited (and of course they would, because Mike is straight and loves his girlfriend, right?) and their plot twist is set up perfectly just by the power of people’s heteronormative thinking 😭 kind of genius because even something as tiny as a ‘we’ll see what happens’ would very much point to Byler. Silence about Mike is their best option! Can’t wait for the day that is allowed to change though.

I've been watching old Project Runway episodes and my take is: whatever they were paying the fat models to participate in the "real woman" challenges just so the contestants could throw dramatic fits over how much they despise fat bodies? It was not enough.

she shoulders the burden of supporting her poor family (chapter 3). despite how silly she acts, she often had night-less sleeps worrying about her family and her future.

her philosophy is kindness above all: "you need to approach animals with love. that's how you build a strong bond" (chapter 126). she wants to help all creatures, especially difficult ones deemed dangers to public safety.

so she has to deal with ferocious and enormous creatures which terrifies her but knowing they act aggressively because they're anxious/scared makes her reach out to them.

Forming close bonds with animals she helps, they're willing to fight for her e.g. cerberus in chapter 126. they'd bind herself to her and lemon could summon them at will.

her kindness and bravery impress even her professors but make her friends worry. lemon has lost all sense of self-preservation and often comes back from class injured but with a big smile. she had found her calling!

mash sees her in a new light. he sees her passion, drive and care for others. she has infinite patience and kindness to appease a creature whereas he just uses his fists. her enthusiasm even motivates him to make deserts aimed at magical creatures and to try harder at his dream.

lemon had a way of putting others at ease with her cheerful and warm demeanor. her unhinged side made others less self-conscious too lol.

the gang often accompanied lemon on dangerous school expeditions to protect her and spend time together.

I don't fear my demons because I tamed them. I named and put faces on them. I tore apart the walls of their cages and rearranged their shapes. By taming my demons I found that now I can wield them as wards against all those who used them to hurt me. Some demons need to be killed, that's true. But is equally valid to want to understand and tame them. And that's the path I choose.
