Clubs!

Whatever you’re interested in, whether it be marketing, writing, psychology, reading, etc., WAC is sure to have a club to meet your interests! Right now, I am in Psychology Club and Secretary for HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America).

HOSA is a club that I have been in since freshman year of high school, so I’m a little biased. But according to HOSA’s website, its’ mission is “to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science education students, therefore, helping the student meet the needs of the health care community.”

And that’s exactly what we’re doing here. This semester, we (the HOSA Exec Board) have a bunch of fun things planned for students that are interested in the health care field; CPR/AED certification, a community health fair, a blood drive, Army suturing, and so much more! I am so excited that I get to play a part in all of these events.

The club fair in Martha Washington Square will be held next Friday, so that students can decide what clubs they want to join/how they want to be involved on campus this year. If I decide to join any more clubs, I’ll be sure to update with a later post.

In the meantime, the HOSA Exec Board and I are getting ready for Club Fair! We’ll be there from 11am – 3pm next Friday. If you are considering a career in the health care field, you should definitely join HOSA!

Involvement fair today on the (mostly) sunny quad. All of the SU’s clubs had tables to promote their organization and to get students of all grades involved. I was at the Orientation Advisor table, recruiting new leaders for next year to run the summer orientation session. It was great to see all the new students out there, and visit my friends at their club tables!

Club Fair

So club fair happened on Friday and I did go to take some pictures to put on the school’s insta story and profile. Since I am graduating in December, I don’t really plan on joining any more clubs. But, club fair is an amazing event for students.

Every club joins together in Martha’s square (middle of campus) and they have sign up forms/representatives that you can talk to so you can learn more about the club. 

I remember my freshman year I was so amazed on how many clubs WC has to offer. Be sure to explore ALL of your options. Club fair is a gateway to that.

Clubs at WAC!

For my Pre-Orientation, I was put in the WAC’d Out Service group--run by the president and VP of Habitat for Humanity! Not only did I meet some of my best-friends (a semester later and I think we’re all closer now than any of us could have imagined), but I got to see a super cool preview of one of many amazing clubs that WAC has to offer. 

WAC has about a thousand different clubs for a variety of interests--habitat is just one of many service clubs. There’s also Caring for Kids (one that i have a special place in my heart for), Best Buddies and even a Relay for Life Club! It’s amazing to see when these organizations get together and often times what they produce. 

Every fall, there is a big club fair in the middle of Martha Washington Square, and you are able to see all of the amazing clubs, including ones that are orientated towards activity and sport--rugby, men and women’s varsity rowing (which takes a lot of walk-ons), as well as Greek life, Republicans and Democrats and more. There are even education based clubs like the Math Club or Physics club, which often allows members to help each other within classes and to work on projects generated towards the sciences. There’s also the Student Environmental Alliance or SEA, that has projects geared towards helping the environment. 

Garden Club also runs, and often does cool events, like candle or soap making, and even offered a chapstick making day. All in all, the clubs are amazing and there are a variety for almost any interest. Music and dance, to the environment, to rugby and rowing and beyond, there is home for everyone here at WAC!

Club Fair was AWESOME yesterday. All of the tables and club members all around Martha Washington Square was a sight to behold. There were clubs there that you usually expect at a college campus nowadays, like the College Republicans, College Democrats, Student Government Association, etc, but there were also other clubs there that were awesome and uniquely fun. There was the Musician's Union (who get together to play music for concerts and jam out), WACapella (the resident A Capella group), MMA club (who basically just beat each other up in a safe environment), and many others. There was not an interest or hobby that I could name that didn't have some form of an outlet at the College Fair. I found myself signed up for SO many just because they were so intriguing and displayed so much potential great experiences. The atmosphere was just ecstatic too. The College Republicans were playing classic rock on a speaker at their table while the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority was singing along to Taylor Swift at their table, all the while the Musician's Union is playing songs like Seven Nation Army and others while just jamming out with a Cajon (a musical box you hit), a saxophone, a electric guitar, and bongos. It was a fun place to be with Horned Lizards to pet, Rowing machines to try out, fun contraptions to play with, and of course, papers to sign up on and info sheets to take (shown below) if you're interested in anything you see. It was full of fun times and great opportunities.

My song this time is a little out there but I think it works. This time I've chosen Surf by Mucca Pazza (link). They aren't very well known but they have a cool style of theming themselves as what a marching band would be if they decided to make a rock band. The song is fun and all over the place and evokes the feeling of hearing a group of musicians jam out while a ton of other things happen around them. This was the feeling at the club fair, music overlapping while so many things were happening in a way that was exciting to be a part of minus the whole falling apart thing they do in the song.
