i wanna talk about the subtle but inherent horror in transistor. how it goes from “huh, the streets are unusually empty for this hour” to the game showing you towards the end that certain white blocks you passed throughout the game were actually people who had been fully processed. and just the sheer brilliance in storytelling of building this sense of horror as the scope of the process slowly unfolds, via the OVC terminals. the missing persons number slowly ticking up and up and up and not stopping for as long as you stand there until you open that terminal. the percentage of process spread to cloudbank increasing by each terminal you visit. the relocation request failing because too many people are trying to use the circuits. just the use of a news scroll in general is soooo haunting as you slowly see each district status listed as OFFLINE. administration saying “casualty reports unsubstantiated” followed by an urgent advisory to evacuate to the city perimeter and leave all valuables behind. the sudden and complete downfall of a city all happening just outside the scope of what we as red can see as she heads into the danger instead of away. we just see it all play out on the OVC terminals until there’s no one left to report it. it’s just so so so so fucking good

Round 4, Match 3: Holy Moonlight Sword vs. The Transistor
Holy Moonlight Sword
Tumblr media
From: Bloodborne
Wielder: Ludwig
One of the recurring elements in FromSoftware games, all the way from King's Field to Elden Ring, the Holy Moonlight Sword is the Bloodborne iteration of the weapon. Implied to have been created by the Great Ones (eldritch god-like beings), it is discovered by Ludwig the Holy Blade in the labyrinths beneath Yharnam, and used to fight the scourge of beasts within the city. Eventually, Ludwig lost himself to beasthood, and found his way to the Hunter's Nightmare, along with this Holy Moonlight Sword. In Ludwig's boss fight, the sword would return Ludwig's sanity to him (perhaps due to its eldritch origins and his own familiarity with it), allowing him to fight like a man, rather than a beast. After Ludwig's defeat, it would either be gifted or taken by force by the Good Hunter to use on their own journey.
The Transistor
Tumblr media
From: Transistor
Wielder: Red
The Transistor is a sword that acts as a tool to control and shape Cloudbank (city). The Transistor can shape reality around it, acting as a sort of Task Manager for the game’s world. The way that it does this is through the use of the Process, a legion of robots that directly shape and reconstruct the city. Normally the wielder–or User–of the Transistor would be able to control the Process, but due to Shenanigans at the beginning of the game, Red is unable to control the Process and instead must defeat these robots in combat. Additionally, the Transistor can also absorb the souls of others and use them to unlock combat abilities. Due to further Shenanigans, Red’s boyfriend, Unknown, also gets trapped within the sword, and communicates with Red throughout the game as she wields it.

How do storm gods work in the auroraverse(or any weather gods for that matter)? Because unlike other natural phenomena that have gods, storms don't last. But it is implied that storm gods are the gods of specific storms. Do storms just work differently in Aurora?
"Storm god" is a little bit of a misnomer, because technically they're gods of a weather phenomenon, and weather changes. Broadly, a Storm God's oversoul is contained in a large, fluid airmass, and when that airmass hits the right temperature and humidity, it precipitates into clouds and then a storm. The god is more powerful the more impactful they are, so when the god is a small cloudbank they can't do much and are generally invisible, but when the god moves out over a warm, humid mass of water and starts bulking up into a thunderhead, they get more coherent. Storm gods are mostly minor airy spirits, but gods in particularly chaotic regions with a lot of weather activity can get stronger and more anthropomorphized. Tynan is the rare storm god that went out of his way to expand his power and domain to the point that he could sustain a prolonged presence, even at the cost of fighting the wind by moving himself against it in search of strengthening phenomena like warm ocean currents or avoiding precipitating things like mountain ranges to conserve his strength.
