"Assume" makes an ass out of U and me...
It's the dead of summer, which for me equals Sweaty Toes Season. It also means Foot Fungus Alert Season, too. Athlete's Foot loves me like Jerry Lee Lewis loved his cousin, and it's as creepy as it sounds.
So, I'm at the drugstore yesterday, after my shift, and notice that the only stock of clotrimazole left is in the "pink aisle", to uncharitably refer to women's health products. Seeing as the same thing that handles yeast infections absolutely chews through Athlete's Foot, I pick up a tube and drop by the counter. The kid at the register is maybe eighteen at best, and she gives me an odd look.
"Is there something wrong?" I ask.
She shrugs, trying to play off her surprise - and her slight disgust. "Nothing; it's just that you're sort of young to be using a walker - and that's women's stuff."
I smile with teeth. "I see. Well, the uncharitable answer to both questions would have to be 'Nunya', but I could also mention that there's no molecular difference between general antifungal and clotrimazole cream that's specifically marketed for the treatment of yeast infections. It's the same thing, just packaged in two different tubes - with the Pink Tax applying for the second one."
She blinks. "You're not a doctor, how do you know?"
I blink back. "How do you know I'm not a doctor? Should I look like Hugh Laurie and pack a cane instead of a walker?"
The poor kid is in the weeds. "So... You're a doctor?"
My smile widens. "No, actually. Now is the part where you ask me what Nunya is."
"What's Nunya?"
"Nunya Business. And I'll be paying with debit, thanks."

Hey folks on T, here's some skin advice
Testosterone stimulates hair growth and skin oil production, that is a recipe for clogged pores and ingrowns. It can also be itchy as high holy hell. Exfoliating by washing with a loofah, scrub brush, or some other exfoliating cloth a couple times a week in the shower can help clear off those dead skin cells and make it easier for new hairs to pop through without getting buried under your skin. Exfoliating your face with a chemical mask every two weeks can help keep the skin there from getting congested and new hairs from becoming ingrowns.
Washing your face, chest, and shoulders with an active cleanser that has salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide in it can help you cut down on acne as well. Your acne will probably not vanish, but will hopefully be less severe and clear up faster (this is coming from someone who had really deep cystic acne as a teen and is seeing a resurgence of this on testosterone). Check the directions for these cleansers, because you may need to leave them on your skin a minute then rinse them off in order to get the full effect. Additionally, if you start getting little bumps on your face/chest/shoulder area that aren't responding to acne treatments, those may be fungal acne. I had this problem several months into starting T, recognized it from my first round of puberty, and slapped some clotrimazole (generic Lotrimin here in the states) on it and the problem cleared up within a few weeks. Also--moisturize after you shower! Slap some lotion on your skin! The dreaded "your skin gets rougher on testosterone" thing may in part be from you needing to exfoliate and moisturize more. Testosterone does impact your skin, but that doesn't mean there's nothing you can do about it but deal with tender zits and itchy legs. You are not a greasy little rat, you're going through Puberty Returns. Be kind to yourself about it.

Throwing this under the cut bc it's about depression and other gross things,,over sharing so read at your own risk
Moral of the story I have had athletes foot for a solid year that I have just been ignoring bc I had to focus my energy on like getting out of bed, and eating enough, and like not fucking killing myself,,,so yeh past year have had athletes foot that I never even tried to treat or get rid of bc it was just not a priority. Anyway finally like 2 weeks ago I was like okay let's handle this and I drove my silly little car to Walgreens and bought some silly little clotrimazole cream and low and behold it's starting to clear up!! Like for a year I have been getting horrible blisters on my toes bc the skin there is always raw and they went away!!! I'm just shocked at how fast it's working,,and like how much relief I'm experiencing!! Just crazy, mind blowing!!
And I feel a little bad,,,bc part of me wants to be like "oh I'm so stupid, It would have been so easy to get rid of a year ago when I first noticed it" but I don't want to do that because I was trying to keep myself alive back then,,and I'm actually kind of proud that I now have the energy and the motivation to focus on things that aren't just the bare minimum. Like bro I fucking had the dedication to put cream on my feet for 2 weeks straight I'm fucking unstoppable somebody give me a fucking green lantern ring right now I fucking deserve it
#depression can be so gross sometimes loooollll#like sadness and fungus be upon yee#anyway feeling good about myself so that's nice#cowboy rants

Advices on how to be comfortable down there ? Top hygiene tips, shaving, ... <3
hmm let's see bb
always wipe front to back, never back to front
never sit directly on a toilet seat that you don't know for a fact how it's been cleaned (i literally don't sit anywhere without placing toilet paper, like two-tree layers beforehand, call me paranoid, but my mum accidentally did it once and she got a nasty skin infection on her inner thigh that comes and goes even to this day)
try to wear cotton panties if possible, also i never wear underwear to bed, unless it's cotton and flowy. tight, synthetic underwear (like certain thongs) don't allow for airflow, so they promote a moist environment -> fungal infections, thrush etc.
keep clotrimazole in your house, in case you do get thrush (trust me, you will at some point)
don't use super harsh soaps to clean, and god almighty do not ever put anything up your vagina - no, unlike what gwyneth paltrow will have you believe, you don't ever have to clean your vagina, or steam it, or whatever else, it cleans itself!!
goes without saying, but always use protection with someone you're not sure about, and i would recommend even with someone you trust that you both get tested before you have unprotected sex, better safe than sorry
see if you're at an age to still be eligible for an HPV vaccine, that shit could save your life one day
get your pap smear test whenever the doctor recommends it, don't delay if possible (i'm guilty of this myself)
if you wear tampons, pls change them as often as you can, toxic shock syndrome can actually kill you, so please don't leave it on for too long! if you wear pads, do change them also quite often, that's another way to get thrush.
always pee after you have sex, it will save you the pain of getting an UTI during exam season and have to scramble to get antibiotics from an online doctor at 4am in the morning (not that that ever happened to me)
as far as shaving tips, i have nothing special, so if any besties have tips, pls do let us know!
good luck and smooches bestie x

Cut for several reasons
Is it the antivaxxers' fault that both clotrimazole- and tolnaftate-based antifungal cream are constantly sold out lately? And, if so, can someone psyop them back into using vinegar for everything again? I have reality-based problems which require the application of these substances, and the situation is inconveniencing me.

What medicine is effective for dog skin fungal infection?
When dogs have skin fungal infections, you can use topical sprays containing terbinafine hydrochloride or ointments containing clotrimazole and miconazole for treatment. After using the medicine, you need to wear an Elizabethan ring on your dog to avoid it. Licking the drug can cause poisoning. Before using spray or ointment, you need to remove the hair from the affected area of the dog so that…

Hygiene
Disability makes the simplest fucking things more difficult than it seems.
There's not an ounce of my body I can't groom or wash on my own, but there's something to my apparent inability to dry my own toes off correctly after a shower that's absolutely chronic, and I can't say I haven't tried. The end result is a spot between two toes on my left foot that invariably smells of "feeta cheese", to reference Sarah's bad pun, and that also invariably devolves into the most localized, annoying and demanding case of Athlete's Foot ever. It never spreads because I manage it, it never worsens - but it takes weeks to reverse.
It burns for days, before settling back below my normal sensory perceptions. I've noticed it overnight, slipped on some new cotton socks and finished my night, then came the first of many, many, many strenuous cleansing sessions. The slit between my left pinky toe and the fourth is this diaphanous valley of skin that's waiting for the right excuse to slough off, and the spot where my toe always curls in on itself thanks to my muscular rigidity is red, with even redder splotches visible. It's a real fuckin' Fungus Party down there, and I've asked Mr. Clotrimazole to crash it.
What really annoys me is the rituals involved. Twice-daily washes, mainly, the notion that all the washcloths I'll touch for the next week or so are going to be handled like toxic waste - and Walt offering to help me with some aspects of my grooming that I, realistically, should be able to handle on my own.
There's no easy way to tell him, either: Thanks, I love that you're concerned and that you care, but I SHOULD be able to handle this on my own.
There's an unspoken variable, here. I should, but we both know that all it takes is my being less sensorially aware of remaining humidity levels in certain darker corners and perceiving myself as bone-dry when I factually am not - and this'll spring up again. Over and over and over.
It's degrading. I'm forty and I have spurts where I show up for a pedicure looking like I have the feet of an eightysomething man of which the primary caregivers don't give a shit. Being your own caregiver means caring, sure - but it doesn't always guarantee consistency and competence.
