Greetings yet again folks! Before today's news i should ask this: what would you think when wearable tech is mentioned? AR/VR glasses? A smart watch? a pair of fancy glasses? nfc based products or was it something else for you?

in that case i should mention when people of today was so busy with nonsense politics and rightist or leftist ideas there were quite a race between the biggest tech schools and companies for manufacturing this tech such as apple, samsung, stanford, Yokohama National University, zotach (japan based wearable tech company), sydney's UNCW, Australian research comity and more.. you get the idea..

so what is this tech in its core?

basically building more softer and more long term reliable materials to replace our common daily use batteries

in term of materials it nearly uses our common li-on batteries but these are mainly works like electrodes and often use polymers, hydrogels, and other flexible materials for electrodes and electrolytes. we can see in recent inovations include the use of stretchable conductors like gold nanowires or carbon nanotubes.

BUT what these mambo, jambo, wombo, combo means for public eye?

much longer active use time, higher adaptability, flexible form factor yet lower energy and power density.

for now this tech has been used in certain medical implant cases, wearable techs, tv's, and watches for now but there is some attempts to imply this in to textile industry recently..

and japan is seems like ahead of the race for now with Zotac’s VR GO 4.0 backpack

My own doll & figurine collection, plus some other posts about dolls/figs. I'm just getting into custom doll repainting and painting minis for gaming, so I'll include any posts about those on this master post as well.

16" Fashion Dolls

In the 1990s and 2000s there was a boom in larger-than-barbie-scale fashion dolls, and I collected a lot of 16" dolls from Robert Tonner, Alexander doll co., Ashton-Drake doll, and a couple by Integrity toys/Jason Wu. Nowadays you can pretty much only buy them on Ebay, alas. The good news is that Barbies and other 11.5" dolls have become a lot cooler and more diverse lately, although the quality of clothing available for Barbie-sized dolls still doesn't match the fashions for the larger dolls.

The Doll Morgue I store most of my 16" fashion dolls in an Ikea wine-bottle shelf thingy, and this is the result.

Ball-Jointed Dolls from Asian companies are my favorite dolls; they tend to be quite expensive and there are long timeframes for manufacture and delivery. These are ideal dolls if you like to do custom stuff - you can change out their eyes, wigs, they're large so they're easy to sew for, and they often come with unpainted faces so if you like doing "face ups" (as face painting for BJD's is usually termed), they're a nice canvas for this. I've had most of the ones in my collection for 15+ years, since after my son was born I switched to spending most of my money on him. They've all held up very well, though, and I still enjoy them tremendously.

GARRETT A. MORGAN

(4 Mar. 1877 [sometimes given as 1879]-27 July 1963), was an important inventor and businessman active in the affairs of Cleveland's black community. Among his most notable inventions were an early gas mask and a traffic light. Born in Paris, Ky., to Sydney and Eliza Reed, both former enslaved people, Morgan received 6 years of education before leaving home at age 14 for Cincinnati where he worked and hired a tutor to continue his education. He has long been believed to be the grandson of Confederate John Hunt Morgan, though there are no historical documents to prove this assertion, and census data makes it unlikely. He came to Cleveland on 17 June 1895. After various positions as a sewing-machine adjuster for clothing manufacturers, Morgan went into business for himself in 1907, establishing a shop on W. 6th St. to repair and sell sewing machines. In 1909 he opened a tailoring shop; with 32 employees, he manufactured suits, dresses, and coats. In 1913 he organized the G. A. Morgan Hair Refining Co. to market a hair-straightening solution he had discovered by accident in 1905. This company soon offered a complete line of hair-care products.

Morgan invented a safety helmet to protect the wearer from smoke and ammonia, introducing his "Breathing Device" in 1912, patenting it in 1914, and using it to descend into the gas-filled tunnel beneath Lake Erie to rescue workers and retrieve bodies after the Cleveland Waterworks explosion (see WATERWORKS TUNNEL DISASTERS) on 25 July 1916. Morgan established the Natl. Safety Device Co. in 1914. Morgan's other major invention, a traffic light (1923), was important in that it used a third, cautionary signal between "stop" and "go." Morgan sold his traffic light to General Electric Co. for $40,000 in 1923.

Morgan in 1920 founded the Cleveland Call, a weekly newspaper, and in 1908 helped found the CLEVELAND ASSOC. OF COLORED MEN.

The Tea Ladies was my second read for Booklr Reads Australian and unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as much as my first.

For a book with a murder/arson/kidnapping storyline, it should have been more exciting than it was. Maybe it's a sign that me and cosy mysteries aren't totally compatible, but I just felt like there was no urgency to solve the mystery and rescue the kidnapped woman.

I think the underlying problem for me is that there were three competing storylines - the murder and kidnapping mystery, one revolving around the main characters husband, and one about the changing fashion in 1960s Australia. All of them on their own would be interesting but together they didn't quite work. The husband storyline just felt like such a waste of pages in the context of the other two. I don't know, maybe Amanda Hampson is intending to make it a series and the husband storyline is part of that, but to me it felt like a huge distraction from the mystery. The fashion one at least seemed relevant since the murder happened in one of the clothing manufacturers offices.

Plus, this book is set around Sydney's Kings Cross during the 60s which is such a fascinating time what with all the underbelly gang stuff that went on. And while the author tried to incorporate that into the plot, I think any excitement from it was undercut by how quickly it would shift between each storyline. Every chapter switched which story was the focus, and each chapter was only about three pages long.

I did enjoy it in the end, I think it really picked up for me when the action ramped up and characters were forced to do something about the solving the mystery, but it was a bit too little too late.
