I just want everyone to know that in the span of 3 days, I have made 3 loads of laundry, and have a 4th already sorted and ready to go (which includes towels / blankets / bedding). I still need to fold them and put them away BUT the important part is done 🥹
#once i out them all away i need to wash my plushies too but i'll leave it for next weekend#the laundry situation was bugging me A LOT. almost ran out of socks#why is laundry the most arduous and daunting of house chores? even dishes are much easier to get through#that post about making coffee in a million steps really resonates with me#because that's what doing laundry feels like. it's not just “wash clothes and put them away”#it's gather all dirty clothing in one place -> double check my “in use” clothes to see what also needs to be washed -> separate by colour#put on the washer -> take off the washer -> check if the clothesline is empty (and empty if not)#put them on the clothesline to dry -> empty the clothesline -> bring them to my room -> sort and fold -> put away -> rinse and repeat#many many steps. putting them outside to dry takes so long and so much energy out of me ugh#(no we do not use dryers here. that's not a thing. also i've had the experience back in the uk and while very convenient#it wears the fabric down so so much. clothes nowadays are made so flimsy and terrible quality#and using a dryer ruined a few of my favourite shirts. i do miss having warm sheets straight away tho)#but yeah. adult does basic chore whomp whomp (it's hard. i get it. you get it. i'm proud of myself and everyone else who has done A Task)#darya talks to herself

The arranged marrige au looks very interesting 👀, may i ask for another part. Also i wanted to thank you so much for posting your work, without your work i'll be bored and sad they make my days better, also you write so good, you write Thena and Gil and their relationship so beautifully. 🤍
Thena sighed. There was just no way around this. She wished it hadn't come to this, but she didn't have another choice. With great reluctance, she cracked the door to the dressing room open. "Gil?"
Even with only one eye to peek at him, she could see him sitting on a chaise just outside her door. He was being reflected in the multiple mirrors lining the walls of the enclosed fitting area. She couldn't see his screen but she could tell he was doing something work related.
She cleared her throat and swallowed her pride, trying a little louder, "Gil!"
He blinked, immediately slipping his phone in his inside pocket. He put on the perfect smile as he looked up at her. "How's it feel, sweetheart?"
It was the finest material she'd ever put on her body, it felt like a dream. That wasn't the problem. "Gil, I can't wear this."
He looked appalled, basically pouting. "Why not?"
Thena rolled her eyes, opening the door just a little more. The dress was beautiful, and it fit her well. But that wasn't the point! "When I said I needed some things to wear, I meant something casual, for running errands, or seeing some friends."
"So?" he stood, grinning and oblivious. "This looks perfect on you!"
Thena huffed, pulling the door open completely and crossing her arms at him. "This dress is for formal events, and I think it costs more than a year of my old rent."
She could just tell he wanted to comment on the fact that she didn't have to worry about rent anymore, now did she? But he held his tongue in a rare moment of restraint. "Thena-"
"Gil," she relented. She knew he meant well--she meant for it to be a sweet gesture, and the fact that he was here instead of just sending a bodyguard with his wallet was testament enough that he was trying to sweet about it. "It's too much. I can't wear this."
He was still borderline pouting, holding her modest white peacoat under his arm with his hands in his pockets. "I got you other stuff like this and you didn't say anything."
She squirmed on the spot. "Well, I don't wear any of those things either."
Gil's jaw dropped.
She attempted to reason with him again, taking his hands in hers so he could really hear her (which he did better through the sensation of touch, for whatever reason). "Gil, I know it's just part of your lifestyle. But you've seen the clothes I brought with me--what I wear at home. I need...that. I need some normal clothes. I was just going to go myself when-"
"No." He was firm about that. He was very firm, actually; under no circumstances was she to go wandering around alone. Her first instinct was to act defensive about his need to keep an eye on her. But she couldn't act childish; his work was dangerous, and there was a reason he'd hired a car for them, had tinted windows, and never left her side this entire afternoon.
She gave his hands a squeeze, "please, Gil?"
He really did have a soft heart, and he wore it on his sleeve, completely out in the open. How did anyone take him seriously as a gangster when he was clearly just a big, soft teddy bear walking around in a pinstripe suit.
"Okay, sweetheart," he conceded to her, as he always did. He raised her hands to his lips. "Whatever you need--I promised that. You get changed and we'll find some things that suit your tastes."
"Sir, Madam, do you need any--oh!"
Thena drew her shoulders up. She had no reason to feel flustered, or embarrassed. Gil had thrown the doors open and asked that his 'wife' be assisted by their best and brightest. That was probably more embarrassing than them being seen by the staff holding hands in her changing room.
There was no need for her to blush.
"It's all right," Gil chuckled, letting her close the door to get changed again. She heard his shoes on the fancy marble floors as he walked back out into the store. "Everything's great, but I think we're going to try some other places."
"Very good, sir."
This was the most posh place she had ever come into. She did tell Gil she usually shopped off the rack sales for generic corporate casual clothes. If she weren't a mobster's wife, maybe she would even peruse the shops or malls like a normal person.
But she got changed and hung up the gown that was so expensive she was afraid to touch it. It was beautiful, and she had to admit that it had fit her like it was made for her. Gil had seen it on display and insisted she try it on.
He was right, it had been perfect for her, but that didn't make a good enough reason to buy a dress like that.
She exited the room, holding her purse and going to find Gil. This time last year, she never would have come into a store like this. She would sooner assume she would be laughed out of the shop all together.
"Yeah, someone will pick it up later."
"Gil?"
"Hey, princess," he turned, raising her hand and kissing it again. He released her coat and held it out for her to put on. "Ready to go?"
"I suppose so," she murmured, looking at the staff all waving goodbye to them. Maybe all fancy shops were like this, but she had a bad feeling about it. "What was that about?"
"Oh, I just told them that we'll definitely come again some time, we're just looking for a different vibe today."
He was lying. But Thena let him hold her hand as they exited the name brand store, massive and towering and shiny enough to reflect a blinding amount of sun this time of day. It was nice out, though. It was a large part of the reason she had proposed going shopping for herself.
And from the moment she mentioned it, everyone who worked with or for Gilgamesh in any way had panicked. Every time she wanted anything or wanted to go anywhere, it was a unanimous sentiment; the boss's wife could want for nothing. Either they had to handle it, or Gilgamesh would.
"You okay, Thena?"
She blinked, coming out of her thoughts. "Hm?"
Gil sighed; he almost looked contrite. "I know this probably isn't the kind of day out you're used to. But...I wish I didn't have to go this far. But if anything happened to you-"
A big, soft teddy bear, who liked to pretend he was all grizzly and growl-y. When, in actuality, he had the softest heart around. She slipped her hand into the bend of his elbow. "I know you're just trying to protect me, Gil. It's nice."
He wasn't entirely convinced. But they kept walking, taking their time moving away from the luxury branded buildings towards a more regular collection of shops. "I'll try to make arrangements so you can go out on your own--with security, obviously."
"Obviously," she humored him. She was walking arm and arm with her husband, but more than that, she had to admit it was nice to talk with someone like a friend.
"What else?"
"What?" she blinked, alarmed by the grave change in his tone.
"What else do you want to do?" he asked more gently, moving them off to the side. "I don't want to hold you back, Thena. If you want to explore this part of the city, see more of downtown, call up any old friends--anything."
She didn't have much in the way of 'old friends'. Dealing with her father was such a dominating and isolating aspect of her life. She was quite sure none of her old coworkers would even notice her absence. Even if that weren't the case, she wasn't exactly yearning to explore weekend markets or clubs, either.
"Unless it's an old flame," Gil added hastily, holding up his finger with a heavy gold ring on it. "Then maybe, but you have to say it's just as friends, because you're married now."
Oh, she certainly had no such thing. But she grinned at him, as he often did with her. "Oh, well, I didn't think my husband was the jealous type. What if I tell him we're married in name only? What if he offers to whisk me away from this life?"
She was laughing, but Gil had that look on his face whenever he was watching sports and the team he owned was losing. It wasn't murderous, but it was decidedly pissed off.
"He can offer." Maybe she had taken this joke too far. But Gil moved her hand so he could hold it again, locking their fingers together. "But I'm gonna introduce myself as your husband, so he knows what he's dealing with."
Even in this fictional, joke world, that would paint an intimidating picture. She leaned against him faintly--to calm his temper, she told herself. "Wasn't it part of my contract that I not be in any relationship?"
Gil looked away, pretending he was examining his suit. He could get somewhat sheepish from time to time, which she had to admit was quite adorable. "Our contract--and that doesn't mean you don't have some ex-boyfriend or something pining for you at this very moment."
She definitely had no such thing. And even if she did, it would be far from her mind as she leaned against her husband, their arms sealed together, his massive bicep against her slim one. She looked down at the strap of her purse, fiddling with its latch. "Well, I don't."
"Good."
"Good."

Hey crocheters, specifically newer pattern makers, but this goes for everyone. When creating a pattern, especially for the written portion, it is in your best interest to look up the terminology and shorthand used in most patterns. I understand that terminology is different in places (see UK vs US). However if you have to start your pattern off when an abbreviation list that looks absolutely like you just grabbed the alphabet and threw it at the screen, you will hear my screaming and cursing your name no matter where you live.
#i will find you and put walnuts in your shoes#and snip every third seam on all of your clothes#crochet#pattern writing#why does A mean decrease in this pattern#when DEC has been the accepted shorthand since the 50s#also its SC for single chain#and DC for double chain#and HDC for half doube crochet#NOT X#NOT F#NOT T#also also treble crochet exists in both Uk and US and mean two different things and T can probably be used as shorthand for a treble crochet#which means if someone sees T they will get the wrong impression#also W for three crochet in a single stitch?#either chart the fucking pattern or use the correct terminology#signed a very frustrated crocheter#I'm still trying to learn the differences between knitting terms ans crochet terms#i do not need a fucking rosetta stone for your made up bullshit#yes this not a problem#yes im still angry about it#eleven crochet patterns in one#and every single fucking one is like this#if this wss about saving space maybe i could understand#but it doesnt even save space each section is separated and each pattern uses this fucked up short hand#excuse me while I go FIX IT

one of the dramas from the wedding was one of the grooms cousins (on the other side not mine) just not wearing the clothes we had made for her specifically
#i think they cost smth like 1 lakh rupees so that is crazy#she is such a bitch i cannot believe it#when asked about it she just laughed in our faces and said it didnt fit.. it was custom made and she was the one who sent the measurements#and all of the other cousins wore matching ones in different clothes#she just thinks shes better than us.. bc she managed to go to the us and now has a fake american accent also#i dont get this inferiority complex our people have. it is ridiculous.#i told everyone we should we should ask for the clothes back since she clearly doesnt want them but they said it was a gift so no#actually i think she just wanted to be 'modern' and our clothes were a traditional gharara#so she came with her legs out :/#tbh she looked bad anyways so . actually idgaf#she literally did not acknowledge me or my sister at all i think she considers us . i dont know like their maids that were brought along#its actually crazy like. she was acting like she was closer to the bride and groom than we were and we were just some randos#its basically my brother who is getting married and we havent spoken to this girl for years?? she was the reason my aunt came to the uk#bc she used to beat up my cousin (who got married) when he was little and my aunt didnt want to be around her and her mum didnt control her#imagine breaking the family up and being hated by the immediate relatives of the groom and acting like you are the vip guest..#havent told my cousin how she acted with us yet bc partially its like whats the point shes nobody#but i feel like his wife thinks shes super nice bc of course she was sucking up to her#i dont want to be a bad sister in law and cause problems so i'll just keep it to myself#not like anyone will talk to her again so what does it matter#it was nice seeing our side of the family though#especially one of my great aunties who accoring to my sister i was 'glazing' lmaoo#maybe its bc they know i am my mothers daughter and the other side dont?#i feel like its still unacceptable behavoiur though. just rude for no reason you could at least say hello

#I don't want to hear or see anything about lack of size inclusivity considering I have to buy clothes from the children's section#I work in a clothes store that supplies clothes from size S to 4XL#Why do you have so many bigger sizes but not smaller sizes????????#“shop somewhere else then”#I've tried???? Many. Many. Many shops#Most start at size 8 and size S and finish at size XXXL or XXXXL and size 26-28#UK sizing by the way. idk how that converts to US sizing#I don't want to buy children's clothes#They're uncomfortable and don't fit right because they're not made for an adult body#Also they tend to come with graphics/patterns/cropped so not professional for an adult in a job

tv review: crashing (netflix uk series)
overall rating: ★★★★/5
so a few weeks ago, i was having a solo trip around boston and my uber driver (from chattanooga, tennessee!) told me about how he and his daughter love phoebe waller bridge. naturally i mentioned that i loved her too, and he told me to watch crashing on netflix!!
it was v good. v short and a good sitcom! i laughed at all these funny british (and one french) ppl just figuring life out the best they could
synopsis: some young people (lots of 30 y/os and an older 50-ish y/o man) live *communally* in an abandoned hospital. there's some tensions between a currently-engaged man named anthony and his childhood friend lulu (phoebe <3) who's a very ... strong ... flirter and kinda makes people uncomfortable (in a funny-to-watch way)
v nice and funny and easy to binge-watch but minus one star for this scene where a man spits alc in her mouth and then kisses her (if i had to see it, so do u)
#currently separating clothes into many piles#1. keeping in texas#2. taking to sp pt cv and sf#3. separating to pick and take to sf later in thanksgiving#and it's been fun!!! turns out i really like the clothes that have made it this far :``)#tho i really need to shop for a few more swimsuits#hope y'all are having a good break so far!!!#phoebe waller bridge#crashing (uk)#dash reviews#actual ihouse#tumblasha

Boggles the mind that there are people that shop in clothing stores at normal price. Have you people not heard of second hand stores or flea markets?
To be entirely fair I don't shop exclusively second hand, I buy myself something new once in a blue moon, as a treat, but usually take advantage of sales or coupons whenever I do. The other day I bought a Marimekko wool cardigan for 50% off, and a pair of Levi's for 50% off also, and thought I got a pretty good deal at about 160€ total for both. Well, I went to the flea market this morning, and picked up another pair of Levi's, an Etre Cecile sweater and some nice off-brand jeans, and paid a whopping total of 12€ (retail would have been about 290€). Last week I got a Hermes stole for 50€, and a Coccinelle purse for 30€. There is NO real reason to buy new clothes, so that's why brands market the 'experience' more than the actual product now. Which is, valid, I guess, experiences are fun. But if you're the slightest bit budget conscious just stick to preowned.
I also sell a lot of my used clothes, so having a lot of people interested in buying preowned clothes makes it easier to sell. This allows me to keep my wardrobe fresh and to try lots of different styles and looks, while paying next to nothing. I haven't worn out clothes to the point where they had to be tossed in years (apart from socks) so do look into how to care for your belongings properly too!!
#to understand this post you need to know that levi's jeans are about double the us price in europe and considered relatively fancy#probably the most expensive item of clothing i own is a pair of Solovairs that I paid about 180€ for with a coupon#but I don't mind paying to support European craftswomanship#yeah I'm That Girl that starts going on about how Docs are now made in Thai sweatshops at every available opportunity#how all the experienced craftswomen and artisans involved in making them were laid off and no value was placed on their expertise#anyway 60 of those women and men who used to make Docs in the UK who would have been jobless#now make Solovairs with the care and expertise befitting a 200 euro shoe#tl;dr buy local and preowned and save the planet and the working class and your wallet and your closet#send tweet

That ‘is this UK uni accommodation or a Swedish prison’ game is so funny but also so depressing
#literally it’s bringing back flashbacks of my final year of undergrad when i realised i was going to have to live on campus#or close to campus because i’d forgotten how to drive because i’d been in america for a year sans car#but then i missed the deadlines for good acommodation (because america) so i went for the cheapest option that was still available to me#which was a room in a building that ended up being CONDEMNED at the end of that academic year#guys it was so bad. there was racist graffiti all over the walls because no one had any respect for the place#broken glass in the courtyard. no lounge; you had to sit on the metal stairs to hang out#the stairwells just had brick walls. the kitchens were built to be shared by 6 persons maximum but forced to house 9 so they were so cramped#it was unbelieveable. i started eating at weird times so i wouldn’t have to awkwardly stare at someone while waiting for a counter/stovetop#to be free. on top of this there were wasp and silverfish infestations; my window was so drafty that hailstones came in once#the mattresses were full of fiberglass and felt like they were made up entirely of springs; and there were ground-in vomit and piss stains#on my chair and floor#and i paid ~£90.50 per week~ for this#the only thing that kept me sane was the free bus pass. i never missed a class and i went to campus every single day#and attended tons of random events and guest lectures just to not be in my room. i’d be the only person in the library at 8am on a sunday#my flatmates were a bunch of insane first years who drank and screamed at all hours so that didn’t help either. i didn’t make any friends#it was just so bad. there were never any community events taking place either and i saw the RAs exactly once. they were completely useless#reception nearly lost the kindle i ordered. i thought about doing laundry once and saw that the laundry room was absolute unmitigated chaos#so i was like ‘fuck it i’ll just wait until i’m home next weekend’ and i went into town to buy clothes to tide me over#it was just such a horrible experience. and i hate that it’s a universal one#uk universities are really like ‘give us £9k in tuition fees and also pay an arm and a leg for your accommodation.#no we will not be improving our accommodation’ it makes me fucking crazy. like where is my money GOING#you find out they spent millions refurbishing a building that didn’t need to be refurbished and you’re like. you could’ve replaced#the carpet in my room for maybe a couple of hundred quid considering how small the room is#pisses me off. my advice to undergrads is visit potential halls of residence and read reviews of them#and don’t just let them dazzle you with the tour where they only show you the good rooms - poke around. see if there’s damp or wasps#look for stains. etc. or better yet; find a half decent landlord and rent a room in a house#i had a way better time during my master’s and it was because i talked to landlords and visited their houses and brought my nosy mum#and i picked a landlord who only housed postgrads; mature students & professionals. you couldn’t pay me to live in halls again#personal#rant

If shopping on Poshmark has taught me anything, it’s that you seriously got to ask for the measurements of the clothes you want to buy.
I unfortunately learned that I more often than not don’t fit in a size small anymore 🫠
#poshmark#online shopping#most of the stuff I bought were from the uk so the sizing is a bit confusing#but from unfortunately repeated experience: I am most definitely a size 12-uk#the only things that are size small that would fit are clothes made of knit fabric
