RepComm Rambles : The Beetle

Okay, so I have not been able to stop thinking about the beetle related scenes in either Hard Contact or Order 66 and that means everyone else has to feel my beetle related pain as well.

When I first read the scene of Darman with the Daywings I thought, like Etain, that they were a representation of the clones and particularly Darman's lifespan and future.

"I've never seen colors like it." "They hatch and take flight for a day, and they die by the evening, a brief and glorious…" "…They're amazing." ―RC-1136 and Etain Tur-Mukan

The scenes of him looking at the Daywings are what solidified him in my mind as probably one of the most important characters (to me) ever.

Then as we go through the books and we get to the next scene of him and his brothers racing the Beetles in the box, bored out of their minds in the desert, Darman's observation about them and how they even remind him of the Daywings on Qiilura shows that even he is thinking of them like himself. But then we get to this passage:

"They could fly just fine. Why did they never try to escape from the racetrack? Why did they keep buffeting their stupid little heads against the sides of the ammo crate when they could just look up and fly away?"

and me being hopelessly in love with this fictional book man thought for sure this was foreshadowing for him. It wasn't until I got through the rest of the book that I realized it was Etain.

There were so many chances for her to leave the Order, to stay with Kad, to live as a mother and a woman instead of a soldier and ascetic, but she was too caught up in the race.

Too caught up in the cause of defending the clones as a whole, still so ingrained in the Jedi way that she sacrificed herself for a stranger. I agree with Kina Ha that she really exemplified the best of the Jedi, that she fulfilled their traditions above and beyond many others.

But it doesn't change the fact that she was the Daywing all along.

Vod’goran’e

here is a post about my gorane, the lore keepers and spiritual leaders of the Fett Clones who collectively call themselves the Vod’e

so at the crux of it is that I have a goran vod in every batallion who is basically the lore keeper. I feel like for clones their soul is less in their armour and more in their paint and their collective ‘we are here’ presence, and each other’s memories.

So the lore keepers collect stories, and they collect experiences, and they collect the paint patterns and haircuts and piercings and tattoos of the vod’e under their purview. some of them, like Besbe on Coruscant and Tihaar in the 212th are Quartermasters, while others, like Katini in the 501st are tattooists, though she’s also an engineer. and others like Ahurewa in the 104th is in charge of cleaning and maintenance, whose mentor was 99.

They collect memories of the soul, evidence of the clones’ existence, and look after it.

The first goran was Alpha 79 | Buir, who began the whole thing by documenting the story of Dar, the first trans clone in the Alpha batch. But Buir was also the person Cody first told about his name, which led to his batch all going to kaysh when they decided on theirs too, and it developed from there. 1

Because the battalions are constantly moving, and their ship homes may blow up at any time, it feels like the only thing they can change and carve into their own shape is their skin and hair and paint. So that gets changed to be their face, and for some vode, like fives, they tell a story. The Goran’e record that story.

For the Corries and the other vod’e posted on Coruscant, they cannot afford to express individuality due to Morut’pru otherwise called ‘Fordo’s Rules’, but they are living in one place; they have the chance to live lives. The first is eyayah’ad is born to a Corrie pretty early on, and many of them manage to have partners and friends, and l some even manage to have *jobs* outside of their roles for the guard.

All of this means the Corries store their stories in secret places they’ve found on Coruscant, and then when Fordo and Besbe and then Fox start committing decom fraud in a big way, they store people in there too, and the secret places start to look like a secret city.2

Loretta wandered aimlessly around the house, not really sure what to do. For the last month, she'd done it all: drawn, watched tv, watched movies, done kareoke, shot at a picture of jali taped to her dartboard, play some new video games, read a bunch of books... there wasn't much to do by herself. Malcom was off to god knows where, so she decided the best thing to do was check in on Ansley. Lore approached the door and knocked. No response. After what happened last time, Lore wasn't taking chances; she swung open the door to Ansleys room, full force.

"So y- AH! CHRIST LORE, YOU SCARED ME!"

"Well, next time say something when I knock!"

"Sorry, I didn't hear you knock."

"How co-"

That's when Lore noticed it. A small, shadowy figure only a big smaller than Ansley that seemed to levitate slightly. It had large, red eyes, and seemed to be made of darkness. Yet still, it hid behind Ansley.

"...Ansley."

"Yes?"

"..What is that thing?!"

"Oh, don't worry, that's just Riku! She's chill."

"Ansley that's a trauma manifestation."
