Gods clone-shep breaks my fucking heart. The fandom and the DLC itself treats them as a joke but they are so fucking tragic. Brookes was the real villain and she doesn’t get enough hate.

When we meet clone-shep they’re only six months old. They look like an adult, talk like an adult, they have the faculties of an adult, the thought processes of an adult, but no memories of their own, no life experience to teach them morals. They have the life experience of an infant.

From the moment they wake up they’re told they were just a bag of organs for the person you’re a copy of. They have nothing, own nothing, not even their face is theirs. But Brookes is whispering in their ear, feeding this new naive mind hatred and anger and jealousy. And Clone-Shep follows it, because like an infant they’ll follow and trust the first guiding voice they hear. No one has Clone-Shep’s back except Brookes, Brookes only wants to help them be stronger, Brookes knows what best, Brookes is giving them a purpose. If they follow Brookes they can be happy.

Clone-Shep truly doesn’t know any better. That’s not me making excuses or infantilize them, they truly don’t know, without memories they can’t know.

And the “why you and not me!” line? Soul crushing. Clone-Shep is hurting so fucking much and just want to have a purpose, just wants to belong.

As funny as the "You'll miss me" - "Not at this range I won't" exchange with Maya Brooks is, I think I still prefer the paragon interrupt there.

Brooks: "Afraid I'll come back for revenge? Is the great Commander Shepard pleading for his/her life?"

Shepard: "I am pleading for yours."

Day Two: Reflection

She stared at the empty tank trying to process what she was told. She had been kept there, plugged in to stay alive, for years. There were no labels on the tank to indicate what it held. Once they were done with her, they could have reused the tank with no one the wiser. She rested a hand on the glass trying to dredge up memories of being inside. Nothing came to her; her first memory was of waking and seeing Brooks.

She took a step away from the tank. Technically speaking, she was a baby, only six months old. The idea turned her stomach. She had to learn everything: how to talk, walk, sit down and stand up. Then there was learning about the world around her. Sometimes the information overloaded her so much it was a miracle her brain didn't melt out of her ears. One time she got a nosebleed. Brooks never told her to slow down, though, or suggested she take time to rest.

Even as hard as she pushed herself, it wasn't enough. The other one was out there, a constant shadow looming over her and keeping her from being more. And every day she wasted learning how to hold a gun and shoot the target was one more that the other one had to be released from her prison.

The other one would have taken everything from her. Every organ in her body, every piece of bone marrow, her eyeballs, her blood. She was meant to be nothing but spare parts. She wanted to make the other one know how that felt.

She should be the one out there saving the galaxy and have every species bow at her feet. She should be the one respected and admired and followed without question. She was the one who should be valued. She deserved a name.

She hated the face in the mirror, but some day, when the other one was gone, she would be happier. She would be Commander Shepard.

Kind of a cheesey idea, but Clone Shepard should have had an eyepatch.

Like I know that's a cliché, but I feel like it would have put a bit more emphasis on why they were made, "spare parts."

Who is Clone Shepard

people always talk about evil clones like oooh a dark mirror oohh what if you saw what a cruel person you were/are capable of becoming. and well yes but what if you were the evil clone. what if you looked in the mirror and what you saw was so bright it blinded you. what if you had to know exactly how good you could have been.

So, if your Shepard has an accent, how do they get the clone to have one? As far as I know, accents aren’t like a born thing, they develop as you learn language and such.

(and I know the books said most accents were gone by this point due to the whole space thing, but I’m ignoring it cause I think it’s dumb lol.)

My boy Al has an Irish accent because his parents went from Ireland to space. His clone would also need an accent, but how do they make that happen? Do they play voices speaking with an Irish accent during his growth period and hope for the best? Would they even use recordings of Al speaking so he really knows how the original Shepard speaks?

I’m gonna be thinking about this for a while...
