Mmm clockrose (ozpin x ruby)? It's always been a secret guilty pleasure of mine.

If ya'll seen Ice Queendom's design for Ozpin, you will know that this man fuck his students.

I really like this dynamic of mentor/student (Scum Villain fan-), where it can either go wholesome "I will lead you through what you need to know" phase and then get hit with that "mentor gets murdered for protagonist's character journey" which is always good angst.

But with the way Clockrose is in canon? Oh ho ho ho ho

All of Ozpin's efforts, all of his fights to help Ruby come into her heritage and to be a hero like she told him about, all comes apart after Lost Fables. She no longer feels like she can trust him (even if it's bullshit), questioning everything like she did in V7 until the weight of the world finally hits her. When Ozpin finally looked her in the eyes with a forlorn look that just scream "this is what it's like to be a 'hero'", as Salem's darkness looms over them. Angst city, here we come baby.

This ship got some really good potentials, and you really can't avoid the angst, dead dove aspects of it. But instead of shying away from it, up the ante. Fuck them up. Make them cry and try to rebuild with what's left. Let them understand each other and shit like that.

Good ship. I hate what Ruby does to him in canon, so sadly it's just a 7.5/10 for me.

ah yes, the premier trope for people who did not receive enough external validation as children. it's great.

1. ships that fit it

the aforementioned twilestia and glimweaver are obvious choices, even shady magic teachers are still teachers 🫶.

krispollo is one of my favorite ships (and not just because it reminds me of feenie a lot). they have this really good back and forth with their power dynamics, and i love to think of them being attached to each other throughout everything that happens. like a back and forth predator and prey relationship, almost.

i also secretly liked clockrose a lot when i was younger, they have a really great dichotomy.

this is such a random deep cut but alexandra privet/blair willows from barbie princess charm school. there's so much lesbian tension there oh my god. excellent.

2. general opinion on it

i think i tend to like this trope more in original fiction, but it's really good. i like the forbidden aspect of it and wrestling with feelings. and the secretive nature when things do go through. plus it brings about a ton of cute interactions, teasingly commanding respect or acting super innocent when the other knows you're not. and i like to explore the idea of hierarchy and equality quite a lot.

3. ships that don't fit it but i would read

i think again this would be interesting for a lot of ships. one that comes to mind is Maxie/May? a super old ship I know lol. also so random but I think Jalex could be interesting, in some kind of AU. their chemistry knows no bounds haha.

I didn’t want to jump on this post initially, but this is the second time this has appeared in my dash so I’ll give my two cents.

I love Ozpin as a character. He’s one of my faves in the show and definitely a comfort character for me.

I love Oscar as a character. He’s my other favorite and I have the V7 Finale Oscar Shirt. The print is faded from how often I wear it.

I love Rosegarden as a ship but that wasn’t always the case. I definitely wasn’t on board with RG prior to V7, and Ozpin was the reason why. And Oz being present post-V7 still squicks me out when it comes to RG. The reason I came around toward RG in V7 was because Ozpin was not present.

Take the old man out of the equation. Idc if it’s through the merge (because I still believe Oscar will remain the dominant personality post-merge) or if they defeat Salem and the Ozatar is finally laid to rest. Rosegarden is an adorable ship but Oz third-wheeling makes it very awkward, very fast. I’ve seen AU fics where Oz lives and RG still happens and they are so cute. I’ve seen fics where Oz is a DID alter of Oscar and somehow it still works (though that almost toes the line into Clockrose territory and that’s a whole other can of worms).

Rosegarden. Good ship. Get the old man out of the kid’s head. Please.

I think I'll never understand is why people on fandoms don't listen to the creators when it's about a character they don't like. And yes, this is about RWBY AND RG HOW DID YOU TELL

Like, in RWBY people will say "oh rg is gross" or "they're siblings, not crushes" as if MILES LUNA didn't fucking say that it's not gross, it's a 2year age gap and that they don't have a sibling dynamic in canon

Listen, you're completely allowed to have an opinion. But there's a difference between an opinion and a statement xd

"I'm see their dynamic more sibling-like" is not the same as "they have a sibling dynamic"

And just because you dont like a character doesn't mean you should complete ignore what you're seeing on screen

I don't like Jaune in the show, he has some tropes I don't like + a design i do not like so it's a very bad mix for me

BUT I KNOW RUBY AND JAUNE ARE BESTIES

I KNOW HOW IMPORTANT JAUNE IS FOR THE PLOT

AND I KNOW HOW MUCH HE CARES ABOUT OSCAR

AND HOW HURT HE IS

Just because you don't enjoy a character (that is not evil or unlikeable, oscar is actually one of the sweetest characters in the show he's always trying to help) doesn't mean you get to ignore him. All characters are linked. If i ignored Phyrra I'd have missed Jaune stuff. If i ignored Ren I'd missed Nora stuff, If I ignored Weiss I'd have missed ruby stuff, AND IF YOU IGNORE OSCAR YOU MISS RUBY STUFF

Also for those who say:

"I don't like Oscar bc ozpin is there and it's icky"

1-the plot will develop??? That's how a show works, that will most likely change

2-You missed Ozpin's character because AGAIN, you didn't like him so you decide to ignore him.

3-If you ignore Ozpin, you miss Oscar stuff which leads to the "oscar is a meatsuit" thing because you think he's a flat and dull character and because you think so (because you ignored one of the pillar characters in ozma/Salem's plotline) then you don't get why rg could be a thing and then you sew that rg MIGHT actually end up happening if CRWBY follows the path they're going and then you get pissed off because you say they don't have chemistry.

I'll say it.

People who dislike rg are ozpin haters. It's a domino effect
