A funny detail about Cloak & Swaggart
Tumblr media
A common misconception spread around regarding the episode "Cloak & Swaggart" is that Rupert is the theft when in actuality- he's isn't. While Rupert is definitely not above such petty actions like thievery. In this case, he's very much innocent.
-OKAY OKAY PUT YOUR TOMATEOS DOWN! I KNOW HE'S BRITISH! Stop booing at me! BUT YOUR HONOUR! My client is innocent of this specific instance.
(Read more below)
Tumblr media
In "Cloak and Swaggart" our favourite Girlboss duo go out partying after Splinter and his boys are off "camping". They are having the time of their lives, simply gals being pals.Yet something disastrous happens on girl's night leading to being the driving force of today's misadventure. Sunita's Brooch is stolen by a mysterious assailant. We know the thief of identity is unknown by judging the shape of their hand.
Tumblr media
One could argue that this was an animation decision made by the team to make the twist a little more fun but this makes no sense from a narrative standpoint. Mr Loose Lips can't be the thief because A) look at his hands B) He isn't a Yokai or a mutant- he's never seen dawning a brooch indicating he may have an alternative form. Rupert can't be the thief because The Pigman has an alibi. This alibi is confirmed by Mr loose lips himself.
Tumblr media
"Look kid, my clients suspect a certain level of discretion. Yea' think I'm just gonna tell yea that the brooch was bought by some big guy with a thick neck and an upturned nose an' paper hat, on his way to channel 6 ln a late-model charcoal grey stretch limousine?" If Rupert was the theft, then why would he bother showing up to Mr loose lips in the first place? it makes no sense. Even if we were to entertain the idea that this was a commission's work- it still wouldn't make sense. Rupert Swaggert in this regard, is innocent. He had no clue that the brooch belonged to someone else upon buying it. Keep in mind, that the British bastard had never met April or Suntia before this.
Tumblr media
This makes the Episode even MORE funnier when you look through his lenses.
He can return to his old career which he suddenly lost due to his mutation. He finally found the means to take back his old life but within ONE DAY- Rupert was harassed by two teenagers, whom he had never met before EVER in his life. (then nearly got eaten by some yanks) From his perspective: He got robbed by some teens- for no reason
Tumblr media
Before I close this off. I worry that some folks take away from the post is me shifting the blame onto April and Suntia which... no, I'm not. They're well within their right to take back a family heirloom which belongs to Sunita. besides They're TEENAGERS. Do you think April gonna go over to a known dangerous mutant and be like "Ermm, can we have that brooch back? " OF COURSE NOT. don't be insane. These girls deserve a crown.
What I'm doing is pointing out the hilarity of this scenario. We are all familiar with who Rupert is. He's an oversized porky jackass that has no problem committing extreme acts for his own benefit. We are SO used to his shittiness that putting "stealing from teenage girls" on his list of crimes wouldn't be out of the question. The only thing is... he didn't commit that here. Dude tried to get his old job back only to have some teenager mess with his life again. he never met them and to his knowledge, the Brooch was something he purchased.
Tumblr media
So the Verdict?
Rupert is innocent in regards to Suntia's stolen brooch
As for everything else? all his other crimes? Guilty. Put this man away your honour.
case closed

Something that I kind of noticed is that when the Turtles are trapped inside the Turtle Tank during the episode Cloak, and Swaggert we get a small insight into how they sort of act when they are stuck in stressful situation & are feeling overwhelmed
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see that Donnie desperately is trying to fix the problem & get his family out of the Turtle Tank we have kind of seen Donnie jump to problem solving when dealing with situations in previous episodes as typically in stressful situations Donnie seems to kind of treat the situation as something he can fix or solve
Tumblr media
Donnie: I can fix this! I can fix this! I can totally fix this!
We see that Mikey is trying to distract himself by roasting marshmallows with a candle, which kind of gives a small insight to another side of Mikey's typically optimistic personality since while we do know that Mikey tends to try & look on the bright side of things it is also something he sort of uses to try to distract himself when he is upset about something
Tumblr media
Mikey: I can’t put a smile on this crumb sandwich. What hope do we have?
We see that Raph has resorted to smashing panels, Raph kind of typically using smashing to try & solve problems & in previous episodes of Rise we have sort of seen Raph try to smash his way out of problems which can be seen in the episode Man vs. Sewer when he smashes everything around him while stressed
Tumblr media
Raph: Time to panic!  I’m alone and panicking, panicking, panicking, panicking!
Meanwhile we see Leo curl into a ball, which is a habit that Leo seems to have where Leo will kind of curl into himself when feeling overwhelmed or stressed
Tumblr media
Leo: Locked in a cage, failed in our mission, held for ransom by the Foot, and none of us gave him grandchildren! Somehow I think he wanted more
It seems as though when stuck in a stressful situation or feeling overwhelmed Donnie will try to fix the problem, Mikey will try to distract himself from the problem, Raph will try to smash the problem & Leo will curl into himself.

I dont know if it's to late to ask, but is GitS Rise episode chapters going from broadcast order or production code order?
NEITHER because both are incorrect! Both put Lair Games before Many Unhappy Returns. I'm going in an order based on a list I found when I first watched the show, which is the order I watched it in! It makes the most sense to me, timeline-wise. I can no longer find said list, but I can just. List out the episode order I'm going by. Italicized are the episodes I've already passed/written, depending. Striked out are ones where Ghost wasn't involved.

Okay, I’ve been meaning to do this for a while but kept getting derailed. Thankfully I’m fully caught up on Rise (though it took me forever) and I was able to mostly sort out the in-universe order for the episodes.
Because fun fact-- something I noticed way back in season 1-- is that the episodes weren’t released in in-universe order. This was true on cable, this has held true on netflix and hbo-max paramount+ (I goofed, oops), and while [turtlepedia] does have them listed in tv broadcast order and has the episode production codes listed, neither of those entirely match up with the various in-episode context clues for what order things happen in.
And believe me, some of those context clues, those in-episode “signposts” are subtle enough to be blink-and-you’ll-miss-it details (like the fact that the background video for Donnie and Mikey in Hypno! Part Deux! implies that it’s happening at the same time as Repomantis). Needless to say it’s taken a lot of work and a lot of paying attention. And thankfully season 2 wasn’t as all over the place (mainly due to more of the episodes not having any distinct signposts beyond things that made it obvious they took place after season 1).
(I’ve done my best to get it as nailed down as possible. Episodes that occur at the same time are listed on the same bulletpoint in recommended watching order.)
So good news if you’re like me and you’d like to watch the episodes in in-universe order, because this is that list!
Without further ado, I give you:
The In-Universe Rise Episode Timeline
Season 1:
Mystic Mayhem
Origami Tsunami
Donnie’s Gifts
Smart Lair
War And Pizza
Newsworthy
Repomantis & Hypno! Part Deux!
Down With The Sickness (Due to not really having any more than one possible signpost, this one could take place either before or after the previous point or The Purple Jacket. I don’t think it’s any later than that, but it’s debatable.)
The Purple Jacket
Minotaur Maze
The Longest Fight
The Fast And The Furriest
Stuck On You
Hot Soup: The Game
Mascot Melee
The Gumbus
Shell In A Cell
Pizza Pit
Bug Busters
Mrs. Cuddles (Like Down With The Sickness this one has very few signposts, only two that I spotted and one of those is debatable, but it does take place sometime after The Fast And The Furriest.)
Al Be Back
The Evil League of Mutants
Late Fee
Bullhop
Portal Jacked!
Mind Meld
Nothing But Truffle
Warren And Hypno, Sitting In A Tree
Shadow Of Evil
You Got Served
Operation: Normal
The Mutant Menace
Sparring Partner (This is another one where the placement isn’t entirely certain, but it is after Origami Tsunami, The Fast and the Furriest, and Shadow of Evil.)
How To Make Enemies And Bend People To Your Will
Mystic Library (This is another one where there aren’t enough signposts to be sure where this one belongs exactly, but this was my best guess.)
The Purple Game
Jupiter Jim Ahoy!
Cloak and Swaggert
Man Vs. Sewer
The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide and Seek
Turtle-dega Nights: The Ballad of Rat Man
One Man’s Junk
Snow Day (Yet another one where the time placement isn’t certain and this is my best guess, though it does take place sometime after Late Fee and possibly Jupiter Jim Ahoy!)
Insane in the Mama Train
End Game
Season 2
Many Unhappy Returns
Todd Scouts
Goyles, Goyles, Goyles
Flushed But Never Forgotten
Lair Games
Breaking Purple
Repairin’ the Baron
Air Turtle
Pizza Puffs
Sidekick Ahoy!
The Hidden City Job
Always Be Brownies
Mystery Meat
Donnie vs. Witch-Town, Raph’s Ride-Along, Hidden City’s Most Wanted, Bad Hair Day
Fists of Furry
The Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle
Battle Nexus: New York
Finale Part 1: E-Turtle Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Finale Part 2: Shreddy or Not
Finale Part 3: Anatawa Hitorijanai
Finale Part 4: Rise
Rise of the TMNT, the movie
Go forth and enjoy!
(And if anyone wants my rationalization on any of this, just hit me up and I can go in detail.)

Any RotTMNT headcanons you feel like sharing? Can be for the Turtles, April or Splinter. Also, idk how many eps you've watched but, favorite episode so far?
ANON I LOVE YOU
Okay for reference, I’m halfway through episode 22A, Cloak and Swaggert.
My fav. episode is probably the one where Donnie gets in good with the Purple Dragons only to have his babies taken away :<
Headcannons:
Donnie: ~Non-binary aroace (shut up lemme project in peace) ~Haaates being touched unless by a trusted family member ~Despises his shell ~Only a theater kid because of Leo ~He licks things. A lot. Usually cheeks. ~Has once eaten plastic ~Best dancer ~Befriended April first ~Ladies man but hates that he is ~No seriously he hates being flirted with leave him alone ~Will not wear a skirt or dress unless it’s an old lady costume or he genuinely needs to ~Picky eater ~Will eat raw sewer rats if not given enough meat ~Has almost eaten Splinter at least twice ~Not allowed to play video games ~Transmasc ~Has depression and anxiety  ~Cuddles are the best
Raph:  ~Genderfluid demiaroace (I have weird headcanons lemme live in pEACE) ~Teddy bear ~Knits ~Will get violent if needed ~He’s just... baby ~Scared of the dark ~Needs to eat meat but will just gently poke Mikey until he cooks some meat ~Stresses out when he’s put in charge. Not during battles, just during everyday life ~Tried to shop for grocies once. He forgot meat. He is not allowed to shop for grocies anymore ~He’s very easily spooked and needs daily cuddles ~Is the only turt with a social media account ~Actually listens to Donnie ~Struggles with written English but is very fluent in written Japanese ~Has nothing against skirts but just can’t find any that are comfortable or look good so he doens’t bother ~Can’t tell if you’re flirting with him ~Anger issues :<
Leo: ~Aro demiboy (Are most of the turts aro? Yes. I’m aro. hisss) ~Second best dancer ~Doesn’t like meat all that much ~Ya know how some people are flamboyantly gay? He’s flamboyantly aro. ~Eyeliner always on point ~Will wear skirts and dresses when he’s in the mood ~Designs the clothes the turts wear ~Will put makeup on his stripes to emphasize them
Mikey: ~Gay and agender (none of these turtles are cis or straight) ~Goes through a boy-crazy phase and no one has a good time ~Will sometimes wear a skirt if it’s warm enough and he’s with people he trusts ~Has chronic anxiety  ~Prefers manga but reads any comics ~He’s actually pretty smart, just doesn’t show it unless prodded enough ~Transmasc ~Cooks all the meals.
The bros: ~Japanese is their first language, and they’re all very fluent and can write in it perfectly ~English is their second and in order of who does the best with reading and writing in it is Donnie, Mikey, Leo, and Raph ~They hate big dogs ~Sometimes they all sleep on top of Raph because why not ~Leo and Raph co-lead ~Sometimes Donnie or Mikey have panick attacks, so all the turts carry a bag of lettuce around to shove in their face. Chewing it helps ~Last time Donnie and Leo got along, half of NYC was nearly blown up ~Leo is fluent in spoken Spanish, but doesn’t know how to read or write in it, so if presented with written Spanish, he’ll have Donnie sound out the letters so he can translate it. It works surprisely well ~Donnie knows French, Raph knows Russian, Mikey knows Italien, and Leo knows Spanish ~When Donnie licks them: Raph licks back, Mikey bonks their heads together, and Leo hisses at him, calling him gross ~Donnie licks Leo the most because of his reaction ~Sometimes they’ll start talking in Japanese without noticing and April is learning Japanese because of that. ~When they forget a word in Japanese or English, they ask Donnie. ~When asked “Who likes boys?” Raph, Leo, and Mikey raise their hands, Donnie does not. When asked who like girls, no one raises their hands.
